okay yay. rough concept for a TOME (2011) au

the short of it is im just injecting the cast of HXH into the roles of the various characters of TOME and seeing what sticks. it's not going to be entirely 1-to-1 but just trust me

Kurapika takes the place of Alpha, and i am most definitely not biased in doing that. however, the forbidden power parallels emperor time in ways i don't have enough words to express (the red eyes, sometimes being able to use it of the respective users own volition and sometimes it fully taking over, the way it enhances both users physical abilities etc etc)

i think i might've mentioned an AU or two on here before but i recently realized i've never properly written/drawn about and posted my personal favorite yet, so i figured i'd go for it.

the tl;dr is that it (after-affect) is a more sombre/horror-heavy take on tome's existing plot with higher stakes and worse outcomes, and delves heavier into themes of trauma, mental illness, disability, and recovery from a personal perspective.

i've rewatched tome in bits and pieces since i started properly working on/with my disabilities, and ever since i've continually developed different headcanons and theories about it's characters until eventually i said "fuck it" and decided to put it all together into a semi-cohesive AU that i'm still actively working on.

tome has always made me introspective about some of the more serious issues it touches on (like mental illness and trauma) and has made me feel seen/represented when it comes to those issues for a long time, but i feel like i've only gotten the ability to really sit down and voice exactly why that is properly very recently; this au is a way for me to really dig deep and expand on those parts of tome in a way that makes sense to me. here's hoping it's as interesting as i'd like it to be, lol
