Soooo. This part has been a lot of work to try and figure out and while I'm still working on the storyline aspect, I did want to start presenting the characters of the Avatar Lian story/the Zutara grandkid is the Avatar au. Some may play bigger roles than others but it's still important to know the family dynamic of everyone so here we go. And we're gonna start with the first family;

Zutara kids

Fire Lord Iroh: The eldest son of Zuko and Katara, affectionately named after his great uncle. Many assumed with such a powerful namesake and with being the heir to the longstanding dynasty, he would be a Firebender. However, the nation was shocked when he demonstrated Waterbending abilities. This leads to a lot of conflict from other nobles of if he should be the Fire Lord or if that role should be passed onto the next in line. Katara and Zuko were both firm that their son was more than capable of being ruler, no matter his bending ability. He has become a man of resilience, patience and understanding, who wants what is best for his nation, though he has his mothers spirit and will not let others try and treat him as lesser. He also tells the corniest Dad jokes, he got that from both sides of that family. Appearance wise, he actually has shorter, dark brown hair than most fire lords before him but still drops down to his chin. While he wears it in the traditional top knot for political meetings and public outings, if he is just relaxing with his family he likes to keep most of it down with a small part pulled into a ponytail. He has a deep tan that's just slightly lighter than his mothers complexion and deep blue eyes. He favors a lot of his father's facial features, but has Kataras smile. His clothes are primarily reds, but still bears some blue and purple in his clothes.

His wife is Fire Lady Tae, the daughter of a prominent noble family and a Firebender. She's someone who sees the healing the nation needs after spending so much time in a strict and rigid order and falling toeards propaganda, even after her father in laws time as Fire Lord. She and Katara also get rather close. She loves tea and the arts and wants to see her home and family prosper. Iroh knew she was the love of his life when she actually laughed at his super horrible jokes. I imagine that scene actually kinda plays out like the one in Mulan 2, where Ling and TingTing are together and she admits she's embarrassed by her laugh and Ling was like "I just thought you had no sense of humor". Like that scene. She has fair skin and long, wavy black hair with a thick topknot that she keeps a gold decorative comb in, a present from Iroh. Her eyes are a paler gold color. Her outfit is actually one that tends to be more common and subtle, rather than extravagant and the gold comb is the only extravagant jewelry she keeps.

Crown Princess Tomoe is the eldest daughter of their union. She is a nonbender and has chosen to learn how to wield swords, as taught to her by her Grandfather. She is a loving older sister to her younger siblings and is also a big supporter of the arts, like her mother. She has an undercut and keeps her dark brown hair flipped to the side or up in a ponytail to show it. Her eyes are gold and her skin is a lighter olive color. She keeps up with the most up and coming fashion trends and dresses the most stylish out of all of the family, but always keeps to outfits she can move freely in.

The secondborn is more than just a princess. Born on the day that Avatar Aang passed, Avatar Lian is an adventurous Waterbending prodigy. She is extremely close to both of her grandparents and wishes to explore like they did in their youth and has always been considered a free spirit. Her animal guide is a Snow Leopard Caribou named Lumi, who was gifted to her by Sokka. She has long, jet black hair she keeps in a half up ponytail with some locks braided back into the ponytail (I always kinda pictured a more viking hairstyle for her) and blue eyes with gold flecks, and her skin is a bit darker than her sisters. She likes wearing a combination of dark blues, golds and blacks, with certain bits of red that accentuate her outfit. I'm also debating on if she is actually given her grandmother's necklace as a parting gift before she goes and travels.

The only firebender out of his siblings, Prince Roku has always been a wild child. He is a very active young boy who loves practicing his firebending as an extension of himself and playing games. He is also very much a tea snob, like his great great uncle before him. His hair is still shorter, nearing his chin and he's like two steps away from either shaving it or going into the new up and coming hairdye products that have been hitting shelves. He's paler than both of his sisters and is a very light olive skinned boy and he has bright gold eyes. Theres also a scar going through his brow from an accident involving him taking a Dragon Moose for a joyride.

Princess Kya: The youngest daughter of Zuko and Katara, affectionately named after her grandmother. As a child, her fire bending abilities came at a young age and very unexpectedly. Many tried to push her into the role of Firelord, something she very quickly rejected. She has instead found herself a role as a diplomat in Republic City and is helping in efforts to fight poverty in the city and helping improve life not only there, but in the Water Tribes and the Fire Nation. She also has been running an academy with the aid of the White Lotus to teach children fromm all nations and heritages to learn bending, weaponry mastery and philosophy. She has long black hair pinned back with bangs framing her face and she's lighter skinned than her brother, but not by much. Her eyes are a dark gold and she's actually the taller of the two siblings. She has a full tattoo sleeve, with the top part of it being a sun and moon combined and the rest of it being differing things from her two cultures, i.e. a dragon, a wave, water tribe designs and a fire symbol at the wrist.

Kya is someone who never focused on romances and was very dedicated to her own work. She's had a couple of failed relationships but has stopped actively looking for love. She wants to focus on her career.

She does, however, adopt two siblings, Gen and Rohan, who had been orphaned after their parents were killed by one of the gangs that had been forming in Republic City.

Gen is the elder of the two and he is an Earthbender. He's very confident in his abilities and is a bit of a jock. His ego is jokingly and lovingly kept in check by his adoptive mother, but she always encourages him to keep doing his best. He's a bit thickheaded but he is very loyal and he absolutely loves messing with his cousins. Hes got short brown hair that's spiked up a bit, tan skin and emerald green eyes.

Rohan loves messing with his cousins as much as his brother does, but he's a bit more of the subdued sibling. He loves reading and philosophy and finds something poetic in his earthbending, wanting to use it to help build and create. He also has a strong sense of justice and wantd to use his gifts and what he's been taught to be put to good use in Republic City and help find who killed his parents. His brown hair is a bit longer than his brothers, his eyes more a green-gray color.

Love in the Time of Corona

A/N: I should be working on my prompts for efe, but this is what I’ve managed to write because well honestly it’s all that’s on my mind, and I imagine almost every one else’s as well. Inspired by THIS article, sent to me by the lovely buttercupbadass. Hopefully, reading this helps serve as a pleasant distraction for you all like writing it has for me. This is only part one of probably a four part story. Mostly fluff and such so rated T for mild language. Text messages from Katniss are in bold.

So are you going?

Katniss stares at the text from her friend, biting her lip in uncertainty, glancing at the dress hanging up in her bedroom doorway with the plastic sheath from the cleaners still covering it, the tag still looped over the strap and stapled to itself. She’d been over the moon when she found it in a thrift store. In such good shape. A new dress from that label would have cost half a month’s salary and as it is, she only spent $40 on it. Cinna practically screamed over the phone at her when she sent a picture.

BUY IT NOW!!!!! He’d yelled in text. I don’t care if you have somewhere to wear it that it is steal get it now, girl.

From the other room, the news station hums with updates and predictions, suggestions for ways to keep yourself and your family safe.

I don’t know.

It feels like such a frivolous thing to even be thinking about at this point, you know?

It’ll be a nice distraction

Until one of us gets sick

Okay. Good point. What does Prim think?

Setting the phone down, Katniss walks away, into her kitchen to make herself a mug of tea. She ignores the chimes from her phone, probably work, tugging on the loose shoulder of her favorite old hoodie and chewing on her thumb nail. She’d thought she’d kicked this bad habit after years of therapy and excruciating relationship repair with her mother. Now it’s returned with a vengeance with the world all in a frenzy over pandemic.

After she drops a sugar cube and a tea bag into the hot water, she shuffles back to her room and picks her phone back up, scowling at the short cord. Maybe she should invest in a longer one next time she’s out...just in case. If she’s going to be stuck inside for almost a month or longer, then she wants more than three feet to work with while she’s glued to the couch and her phone.

A few taps takes her out of her conversation with Finnick and into the one with her sister and mother. She scrolls back through all the messages from Prim and finally decides to interpret rather than asking her baby sister. Prim already has enough on her hands as a nurse in the heart of New York City. She doesn’t need Katniss pestering her for an opinion on whether or not Katniss should go on a blind date tonight. No matter how much Katniss has actually, weirdly, been looking forward to this one.

She’s the main reason I don’t think I should go.

Understood

Finnick answers with a thumbs up emoji and then quickly asks the question really weighing on Katniss’ mind.

What are you going to tell him? You’ve already put this off three times now.

She scowls at this. It wasn’t just her putting off meeting him. They were both being more cautious lately.

...or do you want me or Jo to tell him instead?

I’ll tell him

That much she’s confident about. As anxious as the world is making her, she wants him to know she’s still very much interested in meeting him. Katniss can’t remember ever being this excited about a date. Not even her high school prom.

She waits for the follow up thumbs up from Finnick and then switches to yet another text thread, staring for a moment at the name at the top. 

Peeta

She’s never seen his face or heard his voice. She doesn’t know if he’ll smell like laundry soap or aftershave or something else. But she knows that he’s funny and sweet...or at least he has been in their texting conversations. She knows that he works for an online news station, writing articles, and that tomorrow he’ll start working at home rather than following candidates around on their campaign trails.

She knows he went to college with Johanna and plays flag football in the park with Finnick. She knows that after her awful break up with Gale, which was long overdue, her two remaining closest friends were patient and wonderful and supportive, even on the day Katniss said she was maybe thinking about dating again, but that she was terrified of online or app dating. Finnick had grinned and placed her coffee order in front of her then elbowed Johanna.

“Don’t sweat it,” he’d said. “I’ve got the perfect guy for you, Kat. And even if he’s not, going out with him will be a great soft entry back into the dating pool.”

“Who?” Johanna had asked skeptically.

“Peeta,” Finnick said, and Johanna’s eyes had gone comically wide.

“Holy shit! Why didn’t we think of this sooner?” she’d practically crowed. “Can you imagine their kids?”

“I think you’re getting ahead of yourself there,” Katniss had said with a scowl.

But when they’d given her his number, and convinced her to let them give Peeta hers, Katniss hadn’t been so scared. If they shared two mutual friends, he couldn’t be too bad...right? Then he had texted her a few days later, sounding almost shy, even through typed words.

Hey. I’m a complete stranger texting your phone, so I won’t be surprised if you block me, but my name is Peeta Mellark and my favorite color is orange

What’s yours?

It was such a simple question and yet it had made her blush in a funny kind of way and actually want to answer. So began a texting courtship of sorts. They talked about their jobs and the basics like how many siblings, what college they went to, and so on, in a way dispensing with the small talk that so often made first dates awkward in Katniss’ opinion, but in a non threatening manner and spaced out over weeks. 

They’d just gotten to the point where they felt ready to meet in person when the coronavirus arrived on the country’s shores. And now...now Katniss takes the dress down from where it’s been hanging, waiting, for at least a week, and tucks it into her closet. She unplugs her phone and heads back into the kitchen. Carefully removes the tea bag, wincing as she burns her fingers a little and then pouring a tiny bit of milk into it before taking a sip and finally deciding on what to say to Peeta.

Important question...how do you take your tea?

She only has time for one more soothing sip before Peeta answers her.

Milk no sugar. You?

No sugar? You animal.

Well that answers that. At least I’ll still be able to drink my tea without making THAT face, you know the one, when the sugar runs out…

Which may be very soon here.

Are they hoarding sugar now?

It appears so. 

The next thing that comes through is a picture of more empty grocery store shelves. Fully stocked chocolate chips and baking chocolates to the right, mostly stocked spices to the left, with a gaping void of product where the sugars and flours would likely go. Katniss feels her heart sink again and the now familiar thought that this is like something out of a nightmare floating through her head.

Also do you have any idea where I can acquire a live chicken since eggs seem to be in high demand as well.

She laughs at the winking face and slumps in her chair. Damn it all to hell. Of course she manages to snag a date with someone who makes her laugh even when the world is falling apart, only when the world actually feels like it’s falling apart.

I’ll poll my coworkers and see if they have a spare.

Thanks. I’m planning on baking myself to distraction if we’re put under stay-at-home orders.

Sounds like a good plan. Wish I could benefit from the baking frenzy.

Katniss winces as she breaks skin at her nail bed. She can’t put it off any longer.

About tonight…

There’s a long pause and then finally the ellipses show up. Katniss holds her breath until the gray bubble pops up.

Yeah. I was kind of expecting that.

It’s okay, Katniss. I don’t want either one of us to be taking risks we don’t need to.

She lets out a great puff of air, not entirely surprised at his response and yet still grateful for it.

But I have an idea. If you’re okay with our first date being over FaceTime. What do you have at home that you can cook for yourself?

A slow smile curves over her lips and she tugs up her hoodie to cover the ridiculous expression. It isn’t exactly what she wants, but it’ll be enough for now. It’ll have to be enough for now.

"Meet me after everything...When the war's done..."

You promised to meet him right there, in that little town, just a few miles away from Paris...

But there was a slight change of plans.

Alarms rang, calls were made, orders were given...

The war was over?

It was the middle of the night.

You stood on the cobble stone path where you watched Donny leave with the basterds only days ago.

"Nurse."

You turned around, spotting the jeep taking you to Paris.

"Lucky you. You get to see the boys that done it!"

You raised your eyebrow, a little distracted as you watched the town roll by.

What if Donny came back and you weren't there?

"The boys that killed Hitler. Lucky them, I should say. They get a medic like you, they'll be fine."

You were a bit overwhelmed.

Frankly most of the nurses were...

The war just...ended... The news hadn't even broken out to the public yet.

So you smiled...

What else could you do?

Maybe...maybe this meant you had a chance of getting your sister back.

Maybe...if you hurried, you'd get back to the village before Donny.

No sooner did you step off the jeep, were you met by a high ranking nameless OSS officer giving instructions out to everyone.

"Right this way, lieutenant. They're in bad shape."

"How many?"

"Four survivors. Our two boys and the owners of the cinema. The owners are being treated already. One of your nurses is with one of the soldiers already. Right this way." He showed you to the sidewalk across  the smoldering carcass of what was once a cinema.

Your heart stopped.

There he was.... lying on the ground, covered in blood, ash, and burns, half of his leg blown off in the explosion.

His eyes shot open with a smile when he saw you, "So this is heaven, huh?"

You rolled your eyes as you started checking his pulse.

"I turn my back on you for a second and look what happens!"

He groaned a in pain, as you started to take a look at his leg.

He tried to keep his mind off it, by thinking of you. "Weren't you gonna stay and wait for me there..."

"This is the only way to keep you around, isn't it?"

He smiled a little, but then it hurt a little too much. "FUCK! SHIT Y/N IS IT BAD?"

Then it all came back to him, he shot up, sweat rolling down his forehead,  "Where's Omar?! And Aldo? He never made it! And the lady?! Von Hammersmark! Wh-"

"Hey! Take it easy!" You helped him back down, "That kid over there Omar? The one winking at the nurses with his good eye?"

Donny glanced over and mumbled through a smirk, "Yeah...yeah that's him!"

"I heard your lieutenant is alright and one or two of your boys are with him." You started to stop the bleeding, "Some of the resistance found your German friends. Three right?"

"Ones a British officer."

"They're in our hospital now. There alright. I promise, Donny."

He gave you that look.

That feverish look of uncertainty.

You gently rested your hand on his chest as it moved eratically. He raised his hand shakily, and dropped it over yours. His chest began to steady a little and you smiled, "They're alright now, Donny. Everything's alright. You just won the war."

Donny nodded slowly, his eyes looking up at the stars in your eyes. "Ya know..." His voice was strained, but his smirk was his own, "I took down Hitler."

"My hero," you chuckled as you wrapped up his wound as best as you could. He'd need a surgeon but for now this was all that could be done by any nurse.

But you weren’t just a nurse.

You were in love.

And all you could do wasn't enough to you.

You needed to keep him steady, take the pain away as much as possible.

"And all without your bat, huh tough guy?"

He took a deep breath, and tried to focus on you, but you seemed hazy...

He would have been perfectly fine with dying in an inglourious haze of revenge and justice. It was Operation Kino... he could’ve gone out like any basterd could hope for...

But then he met you...

He wanted to know what would have happened if he made it back to that little village.

He knew what revenge was... But now that it was all over, he wanted to know what more life could offer.

He'd wondered that before.

What could life give him after the war?

Well when war gave him the best it had, life gave Donny the best he could have.

The answer had been in front of him before, and stood between him and death twice.

It was you.

And now that he knew the answer to the questions he'd asked himself for years...he wasn't sure he could let go anymore.

Not now...

"Y/n..." He managed to mumble through the blood in his mouth.

"Yeah Donny?" You looked up from a harsh burn you were treating.

"Don't....don't let me go..." He pleaded softly, his eyes torn between victory and goodbye.

"Hey...your job was to kill the enemy. Mine is to keep you alive. You did your part now I'm gonna do mine and-"

"S-save me?" He grinned throufh the pain and blood.

You nodded as you fought back the tears, seeing he could still remember the night you met,  "Yeah. You."

He smiled.

Nothing had changed since the first time you met.

He looked up, now at the stars of the free sky...

He got too quiet for your liking ... He was Donny Donowitz for crying out loud. This was too quiet for him.

"Do me a favor...be a tough guy now, huh..."

There was a pulse. Barely there, but better than nothing.

You sighed, "You did it tough guy... Rest up. It's ok."

Suddenly, you heard him mumble, "You'll be there...when it's all over, Right?"

Your heart stopped as a knot in your throat threatened to take the stars from your eyes.

There was nothing more you could do.

But...you didn't lie to him.

So you took his hands in yours and smiled softly, "I promise, Donny...I-"

His eyes shut, and a faint smile because he trusted you.

You leaned over him, a tear falling over his soot covered cheek, as you finished your broken  thought, "...promise."

**** When Donny opened his eyes, he was in a hospital. His heart leapt initially, believing he was back in the place he met you... But he wasn't. He was in an actual hospital. He could hear people celebrating in the streets... He looked around, and once again, you were gone. Dull pain in his leg, the room spinning around, he mumbled your name. He knew you wouldn'r lie to him, but you had your orders to follow, too. He couldn't blame you for that. How could he be mad at the nurse that saved him....twice... He knew there were countless more that needed you more than he did.  Still, it broke his heart. Then again, when he sat up, and looked at the cots next to his, he spotted Hugo, Wicki, and Omar. "Donny!" He cracked a wide grin, and turned to the door, spotting Aldo leaning against the doorway.

"Yeah?!" He sat up, spotting Utivich and Hirschberg behind him. Aldo chuckled, and Donny noticed he was wearing civilian's clothes...new ones, that weren't covered in blood and dirt. "At ease, son, at ease." The moment they were all quiet, Omar asked with a sly grin, "Who's Y/n?" Aldo shut his eyes in frustration. He told that boy a million times not to ask. "Fuck did I tell you!?" Wicki smirked, "That's all you've been saying in your sleep, you know?" Aldo sighed, and smirked a little, "That wouldn't be the perty lil' nurse hangin' roun' here all night, would it?" Hirschberg frowned a little, thinking out loud, "Say ain't that the dame we saw you with back in that town?" Donny smiled softly, "Yeah...that's her..." Smitty sighed, "Oh...well....I saw her leave this morning. A lot of nurses got shipped out..." Donny nodded, "I know, kid...She's got work." Aldo sighed, "Well, Donny, maybe you'll see her again before y'all get discharged." Omar grinned, "Before we go home." Home... His heart sank a little, though he smiled softly. Maybe you'd get that root beer float then. Maybe you'd get your sister back... "Maybe, sir... Maybe." ******** Months passed... It was finally all over. The basterds were in D.C., getting the medal of honor. Donny looked out onto the crowd, and spotted his parents, his little brother... When did he get so tall? And his sister. Married already?

His parents... His dad had more grey hairs, his mother looked tired from worrying... But they were happy now. His eyes then fell on one more familiar face in the back, jet lagged, but just in time. He smiled when he saw you, and didn’t stop.

And in all the pictures taken that day, Donny was the basterd with the widest smile. When the cameras stopped flashing, the speeches were done, the goodbyes were made, and the hellos were given, there was time again. "Goin' my way?" He winked, and you laughed, as you threw your arms around him, "You know it." He chuckled and kissed you. "Pick me up, Friday at seven?" You winked and slipped a piece of paper in his hand. He looked down and spotted an address and number. He smirked, "You know it." So less than a week later, you'd both gone home, back in Boston... You got more phone calls from him than you could count. And one lucky Thursday night, a knock on the door. "Donny, can't you wait until tomo-" Your heart stopped, and you sobbed, as your sister stood there. Things were finally the way they should have been... And only getting better. Because the next night, Donny was the one at the door. He waited for you to get that piece of pie. Boston cream pie.

A slice of pie and a root beer float to share. Some nights, you worked late at the hospital, but that was ok. He'd be waiting outside at the end of your shift, with the pie, knowing you were hungry and tired. One Friday night, not long after, there was pie, a root beer float, and a diamond ring. A year or two later, there were three people at that table, then four, then five. It was 1952 now. Your two year old daughter was sitting in his lap, as he chuckled, "Come on, kid sit still!" desparately trying to wipe away crumbs of pie from her face. Your two sons, four and six years old, rushed to the juke box. You looked up at Donny, laughing as you watched your sons dance. "They have your moves, tough guy." He smirked a little, though he was looking down at his baby girl, straightening out the bow in her short, black, curly hair, "They have your smile, doll." He scooped some more pie in a spoon, and fed his daughter, "Ain't that right kid?" She just giggled, and in that moment, everything was perfect. At that table, Donny wasn't a sergeant, he didn't need to be a tough guy anymore. He was wearing the same wife-beater, as always, still loud and obnoxious like any guy from Boston, and he was still a basterd at heart... But he still wore the same smile he had the moment he fell in love. Things had changed so much since you both shipped out overseas, but that smile stayed the same, and always would.

A Chance Meeting

Hina, Hiei and Yukina's mother, finds herself in a heap of trouble after sneaking away from the secluded Koorime island. When a curious stranger comes to her rescue, she's left with no choice but to trust him with her life. Notes: For @yyhfanfiction​s Secret Cupid event. The prompt was,  "A story about your OC and canon character’s first sexual encounter." Full disclosure I am cheating a little bit. Kuromaru is actually Tatsuya's OC. But he came up with the character after I told him my theory that Hiei could be a phoenix so ... I'm counting it.

Hina could taste copper on the back of her tongue. Her lungs felt heavier with every breath. Was the air always so warm on the ground? Her hood was already soaked with sweat, and when she dared a glance behind her, the larger of the three goblins smirked while he ran.

"Not too bright a move, girlie."

She felt her foot go out from under her. Snagged by a chain whip that one of the goblins had clenched in his thin, wrinkly hand. He gave it a yank, and she yelped in pain. She watched books and papers fly out of her bag and scatter in front. Her nails dug into grass as she was pulled backwards, leaving long gouges of dirt in her wake.

The Goblin who held the whip cackled as he reeled her in like a trout. The remaining two came up behind him. "Alright, Tomo! You got her!" Hollered one of them.

She attempted to rise, but was pushed down with the sensation of a bare foot on her back. She saw three pointed and gristly toenails step in front of her, then a scabbed-over knee as the goblin knelt and showed off a long set of pointed teeth.

His breath was hot and foul when he spoke, "Oi, what's an ice maiden doin' down with the land-dwellers without protection, eh?" She clenched her teeth shut to keep from gagging.

A forked tongue snaked out and licked his chapped lips, and with it, a little trail of drool drooped from between his teeth. Hina's wide, green eyes met his beady green ones before one of the goblins behind her spoke, "Ahhh ... Tomo?"

She felt the weight quite literally lift from her back. The aforementioned Tomo shot to his feet, his scratchy voice barely managed to ask, "What the-" before a fist met the side of his face.

Hina didn't stop to get a good look at the attacker. With the goblins distracted, she rose to all fours and crawled away, chain whip still tangled on her foot and dragging behind her. Her hood had fallen back and her scarf hung limp as she frantically scooped up the papers and books that had been dropped.

She heard a voice, deeper and smoother than any of the goblin's, shout in pain, "Mother of-" before it was cut off and she heard a heavy body flop onto the grass. It was enough to make her head swivel, spying the goblin Tomo clutching a blood-coated knife in one hand, while the man who had spoken was on his rump, clutching a part of his wing.

Squeezing her eyes shut, Hina threw her hand forward and sent a trail of ice with it. The goblin slipped as the trail reached his feet. The winged man wasted no time, he made for Hina, scooping her up and shedding a couple of feathers as he ran as far and as fast away from the goblin as he could.

Hina was only aware of having her feet in the air and the ground moving beneath her. When she gained the courage to open her eyes, she got her first good look at the man who had rescued her. Short black hair, bony as a bird, and almond-shaped eyes. Red, like two winterberries growing in a snowstorm met her own. She blinked. She had been staring.

The man had stopped, chest heaving, beads of sweat pouring, dampening his jagged bangs. "Hey ..." He panted, "I'm gonna ... set you down."

Hina perked, then nodded. She allowed him to lower her onto the grass, and as soon as she put weight on the leg with the chain wrapped around it, she collapsed with a yelp of pain.

"Oi! Hey!" The man dropped to one knee, setting a hand on her shoulder. She gasped, eyes darting to him.

"S'alright, lady, I'm not gonna hurt you. It wouldn't be fun, not to mention it'd kinda defeat the purpose of this heroic rescue and all to try anything." The man flashed a stiff grin.

Hina cocked an eyebrow and tugged the scarf up over her mouth, her cheeks flushed. The man blinked once. Twice. Then rolled his eyes and turned his attention to the chain on her foot.

At some point during the scuffle, the chain links had become a tangled mess. He dug talon-like fingernails in between knots and twists and slowly, but gently, began to untangle it.

"So, you ever goin' to tell me what your name is? Or you goin' to just be lady?" He asked, an irrepressible smirk on his face.

She blinked once. Twice. She closed her eyes.

"Look, I'll start." He continued, setting a hand on his chest, "My name is Kuromaru. It's written as 'black perfection'. I think my parents were going for irony." He chuckled to himself and tried meeting her eyes. When she looked to the side, he frowned, sighed, and returned to his work.

"Hina." She squeaked, so quiet that his head shot up, and he rose an eyebrow.

"Hm?"

"Hina. It's written as 'sun vegetables'." She repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kuromaru smiled, "Nice to meet you, Hina."

He worked at the knots for a few more minutes before he clicked his tongue, lips pursed with frustration. "Damn, stupid links are all kindsa tangled. Dunno how I'm gonna do this without snappin' it."

"Are you a man?"

For a split second, he looked like a stiff wind might knock him over. "What?! Of course I'm a man! Do you see breasts, lady?" He asked incredulously.

Her eyes glanced down at his chest, then back to his eyes. "I've never seen a man before."

He threw out his arms, fingers spread wide. "Behold, a man!"

Hina covered her mouth and giggled. Kuromaru, cheeks red, returned to untangling the chain.

"So, what's an ice maiden doin' on her lonesome on the ground?" He asked as he worked, "I mean, whatever, but you don't seem combat trained or anythin'."

She shook her head and lifted the bag she had with her, giving it a pat. "I'm a Silent Sister. I gather knowledge and file it in our library for later use, like my mother before me." She said with her eyes closed.

He froze with the chains draped in his fingers. Very slowly, he rose his head to meet her with a deadpan stare. "You're doin' a shit job of it."

Hina's eyebrows furrowed into a glare. Lips pursed, she crossed her arms and huffed, "Well, I never!"

"Just sayin'. First you come down here lookin' like a fresh-plucked peach, then you lost all your papers runnin' from some lesser demons, then you break your vows, or at least I'm assumin' 'silent sister' is more than just a title."

Crossing his arms, he regarded her with a triumphant smirk. She closed her eyes, clutching the bag to her chest.

"Unless, of course, you're lyin'."

Her eyes shot open and met his.

"Because every time you lie you close your eyes." He added.

She blinked.

"Whatever. You wanna hide stuff, it's your business. Bad news, though." He held one end of the chain in his palm, "No way I'm gettin' this off without any tools. I wanna avoid breakin' it too bad."

"Why does that matter?"

"Call it my payment for having rescued you. Been wantin' a nice chain whip for a while and Tomo just happened to let his guard down when he met you."

A cold, bare foot made contact with his cheek. Eyes wide, he fell onto his back. Hina glared daggers at him. "Oh, you're just like the elders tell us! Selfish and cruel!"

Kuromaru propped himself up on one elbow and rubbed the red spot on his cheek. "S'not nice to be sayin'. If I were cruel, I coulda just cut your foot off."

She grew still. After a second, she drew her knees to her chest, eyes wandering away. He slowly brought himself up to a sitting position. "Relax." He continued, "I'll getcha somewhere safe, fly back home and grab some tools, we'll have that chain off lickedy-split."

He spread a pair of red wings, though no sooner did he reach the final stretch than did he flinch and withdraw them. His hand shot to a spot on the left wing.

Hina gestured for him to move towards her. He hesitated, but relented, and scooted forward so he could have a better look. Drawing herself to her knees, she leaned over him to examine the wound. She was all but on his lap as she parted the feathers. It was a clean cut, but swollen badly.

Holding out a hand, she summoned a small ball of snow and pressed it into the wound. She felt Kuromaru sigh into her stomach.

"Feels nice." His voice was muffled by her shirt.

Hina smiled, "Good. Hopefully I can bring the swelling down."

Setting a hand on either of her hips, he jostled her and forced her to slide back on his lap so they were facing one another. With a grin, he held out his wing for her to press the snow into it again. "But you could've just asked me to turn so you could get to it." He chuckled.

Hina's eyes traveled down to the position she was sitting in, and her face flushed a deep shade of red. "Sorry." She laughed, "I hadn't ... I mean, I'm used to other ... social rules."

"S'alright. I don't get social much either. Yours isn't the only race hunted for rare objects." He flapped his free wing.

Hina scooted back onto her haunches and Kuromaru turned, allowing her to press the snow into his wing without straddling him.

When water droplets started dripping down his feathers, he jerked the wing back and gave it a stretch, forcing her to drop the half-melted snowball. "Thanks." He muttered, cheeks flushed, "You should take care of yourself now."

"Right." She sighed, bringing her leg closer and summoning another snowball to press into the injured ankle. Kuromaru rose and gave her a nod, "You might wanna pull up your hood. You sorta scream 'ice maiden'."

With her free hand, she tugged the hood over until it covered her eyes. From behind the blue cloth, she watch Kuromaru pace around the nearby trees, picking up sticks here and there until he had a sizable bundle under one arm. She adjusted her scarf until it loosely covered her mouth again, remaining silent until Kuromaru dropped off the bundle beside her. "I'm gonna go look for some more firewood. You good by yourself?"

She met his eyes, feeling a nauseating tug of anxiety in the back of her throat. Swallowing back her nerves, she closed her eyes gave a nod. He winked at her. "Don't worry, I got really good hearin'. You get into trouble, just scream, 'kay? You're good at that, yeah?"

She forced a laugh, nodding again, and this time making sure to meet his eyes as she did so.

He was the first man she'd ever met, and the first man she was forced to trust. As she watched him walk away, she could hear her mother's stern voice in the back of her head.

"Do away with the Silent Sisters, I say." A wrinkled hand slammed the book into its place on the shelf with an echoing thud. Hina flinched, clutching the pile of books closer to her chest. The older Koorime plucked another from the top of the pile. Eyes edged with crow's feet scanned the shelf for its place as she spat, "A load of archaic baloney, gathering knowledge. We have plenty enough knowledge HERE." She slammed the book again. Hina held out the next book in a shaking hand. "Sure fire way to get our daughters raped and milked for tears. And the elder counsel has the nerve to wonder why we lose more children every year." She snagged the book from Hina's hand.

She gathered up the loose end of the chain and wrapped it around her leg, securing it with a quick twist. When she was done, she fell back onto the grass, arms thrown above her, and heaved a sigh.

"Hina," Her mother voiced, her tone deepening. Hina stood at attention, lowering the books a little so they were no longer covering her face. "If you ever see a man, you run, got it?" Her mother continued, staring her down all the while, "If he gets his hands on you, it's game over. You'll never be the same. Got it? You see a man, you run."

She awoke to the sound of heavy footsteps. Kuromaru had a small pile of rocks held against his arm, which he let tumble to the ground beside the ring he was working on. As Hina rose and rubbed her eyes, he flashed a small smile at her.

"I got some nuts for us."

He reached into his pocket and produced a handful of dirt-coated brown orbs. His hand, equally filthy, held them out with an open palm.

Closing her eyes, and shaking her head, Hina plucked a nut from his hand and began brushing the dirt off. "You are gentler than mother would have had me believe."

He grunted as he tossed a stone into the ring with a thump. "Yeah, well, I'm sure I've heard false things about you gals too." He took a bundle of sticks and tossed them into the center. Sitting across from her, he lit the campfire with little waves of purple flame that rolled off his fingertips.

Hina stared at him through the purple flames. She had seen pictures of fire in storybooks, but had never seen it in person. She had never experienced such heat before, not even in direct sunlight. Her jaw was agape as she breathed, "It's beautiful."

Kuromaru looked flabbergasted. "Th-thanks?"

She inched closer, only to discover that it only made the heat more intense. She could do little more than lean before she was sweating, and she was certain getting closer would make her evaporate altogether.

"It was always orange in the books."

He rubbed the back of his head, cheeks flushed. "Oh, sorry. I can only make the purple kind."

"How many colors are there?"

Her eyes were alight as she met his, ruby red to turquoise, an ocean at sunset. He had to look away before he could speak again, "Um ... a lot? I dunno. There ... purple, orange, black, yellow-orange, whitish-blue ... all kinda depends on the phoenix."

Her gaze traveled to the wings folded against his back. "You're a phoenix." She breathed.

"Did'ya think I was some sorta fire chicken?" He flared his wings out as he chuckled. Smiling, she sat back again and drew her knees to her chest. Further away from the fire was far more comfortable. Even if her breath was fogging in the air, at least she wasn't sweating.

Or, at least, she wasn't until Kuromaru stood. "Are you cold?" He asked, sitting beside her.

"No. I'm never too cold."

"Oh ... right. Ice maiden."

There was a long stretch of silence between them, filled only by the quiet crackling of the flame. Hina did her best to make as little noise as possible when she cracked the nut and crunched down on it. After tossing the shell away, she fell backwards, her arms above her, staring at the stars.

"Is all grass this soft?" She asked.

He fell back as well, his head beside hers, "Yeah, for the most part. Sand's softer but it's hard to wash out."

"All the ground's hard and frozen back home."

"Sounds awful."

She shrugged, "It's home. I never thought there was an alternative. We are born, we live, and we die on the island."

"Well, you're just havin' all kindsa new experiences, aren'tcha?"

Hina huffed in laughter. "Yes, I suppose I have." She giggled, "Let's see ... I never saw a phoenix, or a goblin, or a chain whip that matter. I never felt fire or grass, never was chased, never had to attack anyone. Stars are the same, though." She reached a hand up, as though she could grasp them and in turn, grasp something familiar. "There's the Fair Maiden, Snow Rabbit, the Lady and Her Leopard." She pointed to each constellation as she spoke. Though Kuromaru squinted, he could make out little more than white dots.

"Who knows what I'll do next." She continued, "Maybe I'll kiss someone, or steal something."

Kuromaru rolled onto his stomach, resting his cheek on his fist. "You've never kissed anyone?"

Hina rolled over in turn so she could face him. "I read about it in a book once, before mother took it away and scolded me for reading 'trashy books that should be thrown away'."

He shook his head, "You mother sounds like a real piece of work."

"She would not approve of me talking to you."

"I bet." He let his free hand slide forward until his fingertips brushed her hand. "Wanna try a few more things she wouldn't approve of?"

She looked down at where their hands met, and her fingers took his and gave them a gentle squeeze. She smiled, feeling a little flutter in her chest as though Kuromaru had managed to light a fire there as well.

He bridged the gap between them, and brought their lips together.

Hina allowed her eyes to close, that little fire in her chest flaring. She could swear her legs were melting, she wouldn't have been able to stand even if her foot was fully healed.

He pulled back an inch, remaining close enough that she could feel his breath against her lips. Hina took the second plunge, wanting more, craving more, and sighing into the kiss. He set his hands on her shoulders and brought her up with him. As she deepened the kiss, he drew her into his lap, and when they pulled away she realized she was straddling his legs, her chest literally pained with a flurry of emotions.

Her mother's words returned to her again, and she began to shake. "You won't ..." She began, before exhaling a shaky breath. His thumb rubbed soothing circles into her arm. "Take your time." He said, as though it was so easy to pull out what she habitually stuffed down.

"M-Mother always said men would hurt me." She finally managed to stammer, "You won't ... will you?"

His gaze softened, some mixture of emotions flashing behind his eyes as well. Shock, then sadness, perhaps some empathy, before he returned to the same doting look he'd given her when he first asked about the kiss. "We can take this as slow as you want. Don't ever worry about me. You leave me hangin', I'll go take care of myself. I'll never hurt you."

She choked, and slammed her eyelids shut before any tears could threaten to fall. Diving in, she captured his mouth with another kiss. He fell backwards, and the fire in her chest flared. When their bodies joined, she could feel it all the way to her fingertips. When they were done, it lingered and kept them both warm. When she fell asleep, wrapped in his wings, she wanted nothing more than to stay that way for the rest of her life.

Tomo had gotten used to his kids sleeping beside him or on him - mostly on him since he was a rather large man. He knew why his girls were clinger than usual, especially after moving countries. Neither one blamed him for what happened but it was difficult for them to actually know what was going between him and Kyoko, their mother. All Miki and Aoi knew was that they couldn’t see her anymore and they were in a new country.

He stared at the ceiling, basking in the silence of the room aside from the gentle hum of the nearby radiator. Tomo wanted to move, to head to the bathroom, to make breakfast for them both. So much to do before going to work. His long purple hair was splayed all over the pillows, glancing down to his daughters. Aoi, the quieter on was asleep on his chest with Miki on his stomach. It was cute seeing them like this. The peacefulness after enduring the chaos of a difficult divorce, moving and having to try learn English faster than they should’ve. He felt bad that he had to do this to them at a young age but it was better than staying near a woman who neglected and lied.

Tomo managed to move out of his daughters grasp, replacing himself with a pillow though it wouldn’t take them long to notice the difference. Luckily, none of the steps creaked so he was able to put on the gloves he was comfortable using while cooking to make them at least something before they had to go to school. Tying back his hair, he made some small pancakes and turned off the stove when he heard one of them run towards the kitchen. He recognised it as Miki, knowing she loved to run. She spoke mostly Japanese, as did Aoi.

“Hey, no running in the home! Don’t get hurt!”

Tomo called out, speaking in Japanese. He waited for her to stop but the response he got was a soft thud followed by a quiet whine.

“Told you! Wake up your sister. Breakfast is ready”

He called again as he heard rapid footsteps heading towards his bedroom. Tomo chuckled to himself and smiled wider when his twins came down the stairs. Aoi was still tired after being fresh out of sleep.

Miki ran to the table, getting into her seat and beginning to eat after thanking him for the food. Feeling small arms wrapped around his leg, he saw Aoi hugging his leg. Since she was still sleepy, he was being used as something to lean against. He beant down and hugged her properly before sending her off to eat something. It wasn’t often that he got to spend time with his kids before the separation. She would send them off by themselves to school so the two of them could have alone time but really it just ended in shouting matches and both of them frustrated to the point of avoiding each other for days on end until one gave in an apologised. It was most likely him to say something despite not wanting to.

His thoughts were interrupted by both of them leaving the kitchen together to get dressed into their uniforms. Tomo placed whatever leftovers they had into a container so he could eat later. Not wanting to panic and spiral, he started to clean the table to his own standards after putting on some new gloves. He always wore gloves, even with his kids but they had grown accustomed to seeing it despite their mother’s protests for him to take it off. He wouldn’t. It’s safer that way. Safer for everyone if Tomo kept his gloves on.

Finally, he has decided to get dressed for work himself. He was new to the job as well as the general area but he didn’t mind it. It was a new start for them all. He wore a simple black button up and black pants since the uniform was quite formal. Even then, he would’ve been formal anyway since it was what he was comfortable in unless he was at home. He tied his hair back neatly, trying not to waste too much time on it in case he was late to drop off his kids. Leaving his home with them ready, he waved half assedly to one of the neighbours. She was short - well, everyone was to him. He was a whole 208cm or 6’10 if people used that. The girl waved back though seemed intimidated by the man. She has shoulder length blonde hair and often wore fruit pattern blouses and jeans. He had only seen her a couple times and didn’t even know her name yet. Part of him wanted to find out but it didn’t matter right now. Miki was more out there and properly waved at the woman.

“Hi! You pretty!”

She yelled in English. Mildly surprised by her boldness, he quickly shushed her and got them into the car.

“Have everything?”

He asked, speaking in Japanese with them.

“Mhm! You should talk to that lady, daddy. She looks nice. You need friends too”

Miki started to ramble while Aoi simply nodded.

“Her clothes are pretty too! Why can’t I wear something like that? You wouldn’t let me wear what mother wears or let me wear your gloves”

Not knowing what to say, he let her ramble and answer the questions later. Her mother often wore tight clothing that showed off her body which he had no issue with but it crossed a line when she openly flirted with men who gave her an ounce of attention.

“I’ll talk to her later. She probably has work to do and I do too”

Tomo replied and let them out of the car once he arrived.

“Stay safe! Love you both!”

He heard quiet replies from the both of them as they headed into the gates. He watched them to make sure they got inside, rubbing the hem of one of his gloves absentmindedly as he did so. They were safe. Everything was fine and he could leave now

2017 Anime in Review

So, it is that time of the year again, the end is neigh, and it has snuck up on me yet again. With the end of the fall season for me only 3 days away, I thought I should get to writing and compiling this list, which, compared to other years feels dauntingly short. With a total of only 33 anime/movies I saw this year, I feel like either I’ve gotten pickier, shows have gotten worse, or there were too many sequels that I didn’t wanna rush through previous seasons to watch the new season. Regardless, keeping up with tradition, here I am for my fifth annual anime review. As always, the top 12 are in alphabetical order and then the rest are discussed in alphabetical order as well since, as you may have noticed, I was lazy this year and didn’t do any quarterly reviews. So, you’ll get my full rambling here this year! Let’s get this party started!

Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen

The long awaited sequel to Ao no Exorcist, the Kyoto arc is where the action finally ramps it into high gear. The stakes get higher and the action gets real fucking rad. I’m so glad the Ao no Exorcist got its second season finally, it’s, in my opinion, somewhat underrated as an anime and doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Here’s hoping that the second season garnered enough attention for another season, because with stunning visuals, great story, and music to boot, it be a shame not to continue seeing more of this series.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria

And here we have it, the spin of to DanMachi that focuses on the Loki Familia. At first I was skeptical that they decided to do this instead of another season of DanMachi, but to quell my concerns I read into the manga and fell in love. The motivations you see for Aiz in the story help make sense of why she puts up with Bell, why she is the strongest and overall just a lot of fleshing out of her character. But luckily it doesn’t just center around Aiz, but the whole of the front line of the Loki familia, letting us see how a strong dungeon clearing familia does business, and boy does they show us the business in the season finale.

Eromanga-sensei

What is this train wreck? Another imouto series? Yes, I’m sorry. I can’t stop myself, I’m a sucker for comedy. Eromanga-sensei is great, because unlike its predecessors (OreImo) it doesn’t try to make the viewers stomach that blood relations hell. With an adorable cast, great punchlines, and reasonable visuals, it’s well worth a watch if you need a laugh.

What is this, another train wreck? Yep, sorry not sorry. At least it’s a unique train wreck, with our 5 main characters in a horrible love pentagon from hell. Amano likes Tendou and vice versa, Aguri likes Uehara and vice versa, and Chiaki likes Amano. Seems simple enough, just a love triangle you say, NOPE. Because its all a clusterfuck of people thinking the person they like likes someone else. EVEN THOUGH AGURI AND UEHARA ARE DATING. God help me why did I like this again. Wait the great lolz. That’s why, grade A lolz.

Imouto sae Ireba Ii.

Yes, it says Imouto in the title. But I swear, its not OreImo again. My boy Itsuki here is a light novel author… with an obsession for little sisters. See that’s new. This anime is a slice of life that revolves around the light novel publishing business and we see most of it through the perspective of Itsuki, but Nayu and Haruto have been in the spotlight, showing us their process to writing their novels or anime adaptations. But the cake for me has to go to Itsuki’s college friend Miyako, who is best girl of the year for me. Lord have mercy that girl is adorable. Also this bastard of an anime has the best ending song of the year for me, freaking great song.

Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni.

The premise here was interesting, our protagonist meets an early end in his world, but God having pity on him allows him to reincarnate in a new world, taking one thing with him. He chooses to keep his smartphone and there by gains a interesting advantage in a world of magic, where he is able to access all the old information from his home world (Assumingly an anime Earth), but also gains amazing power in this world. Because God felt the phone was a bit of a cheap gimme, he enhances all hit attributes including his affinity for magic, allowing him to be incredibly fucking broken and OP in this world in combat. So don’t go in to this for a fair fight, but for comedy, bullshit fights, and a interesting take on how a medieval magic world would benefit from someone from our time period came and started just dropping knowledge. (ICE CREAAAM)

Koi to Uso

A society that has a system that will match you to your perfect soulmate, seems ideal doesn’t it? But what if you find yourself fallen in love for years and come your 16th birthday you are matched with someone whom you have no feelings for. That’s the premise of Koi to Uso, and man it’s a doozy. I wish this had gotten more episodes because I feel like the premise was great, even if the protagonist was a bit spineless. Unfortunately I doubt it did well enough to get another season, so I’ll have to read the manga for some closure, but it got my interest. It also had a fantastic opening song, catchy as all hell.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2

If you read my reviews in the past, you should NOT be surprised that KonoSuba2 made it into this list. The laughs were still there, the bullshit success story of Kazuma never ends. God what else can I say about one of the best action comedies I’ve seen? Go watch it? Season 1 first though, it does actually continue story wise so you need to see it in order. ERIS IS TRUE LIFE, AQUA LIES!

Rewrite 2nd Season

Man, I can already feel how controversial this pick is. A lot, and I mean a lot, of people did not like Rewrite, nor Rewrite season 2. I am one of the few that thought it was alright. I have also not played the visual novel its based on so I’m more forgiving to its faults than most. But I have researched into the series post watching the anime, and can see very well why people were so… triggered. Overall the second season I feel was stronger than the first, elaborating on back story a lot more and giving viewers more to understand what the actual fuck is going on. And you gotta admit the season started off with a bang with that huge battle in episode 16. After which the series I feel took a darker and more realistic turn, which I thought was a step in the right direction.

Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records

Yes, another magic world school series. What was unique about this one? The main character is older for one, isn’t trying to fall in love for another, and lastly, isn’t purposefully gimped of his power. He tends a lazier route but is able to be bring forth his abilities to full blast when necessary. I will say the uniforms are kinda bullshit, like how are they practical lol.

Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 

Why oh why did we not get just a bit more of this series? I’m glad they announced a movie to hopefully finish the story since its so close to the end of the light novels. But this ends up being more of the same, with Aki trying to pursue his game creation dream further with more trials and tribulations along the way. But none of that matters, what matters is we got more Megumi in our lives and man oh man is she still as great as ever. Best heroine, no boring heroine here!

Tsurezure Children

Considering how much I love the manga series, it is no surprise that I loved the anime. They stayed true to the manga and made it a snippet of short stories for all the characters. I only wished it had been 24 episodes so we could have developed everyone more and introduced more people as well. But, its okay, we introduced the best characters anyway with BROTOYAMA being introduced and of course, everyone’s favorite LOVE MASTER! He gets even better, just you wait.

Honorable Mentions

ChäoS;Child

This was just a big disappointment to me, I had hoped it would fall back on Chaos;Head a bit and explain some more, give us an epilogue if you will of what happen to those people, but we just got a new story full force. While the story of Chaos;Child isn’t bad, it wasn’t what I wanted, though man, the movie was something else. Sadly it wasn’t what I was looking for.

Clockwork Planet

Iffy animation, story all over the place, main dude kinda nuts and annoying. I couldn’t actually find something I liked about Clockwork planet. It’s a shame because I thought I’d love it based on the poster art, but, it wasn’t meant to be apparently.

Code:Realize: Sousei no Himegimi

I have a very love hate relationship with Code:Realize. I don't actually enjoy it that much, but its interesting enough that I was not able to bring myself to drop the series. Week after week I watched with half attention because I wanted to see a resolution to the series, but it wasn't very good to watch it. I don’t know what drew me to it, but it brought me back for more every week so I guess it had to be somewhat good if I can't find something I hated either.

Fate/Apocrypha

Man, Fate Apocrypha is an example of why ufotable should be the only people that are allowed to handle the Fate series. While the story is pretty interesting war wise, the character development felt slopy, the fights were poorly animated (til episode 22-23 those were pretty rad), and overall just felt bad. It’s a shame ufotable doesn’t have exclusive rights to fate adaptations, but oh well, it was okay. Hopefully Shaft does better with Fate Extra, but I doubt it.

Gin no Guardian

Normally if a series gets a second season announced and I watched the first season, I watch the new season. Like I watched Samurai Girls, then tried to watch Samurai Bride and realized it was god awful. Well with Gin no Guardian, I watched the first season and will not be giving its second season a watch because it was very boring, slow paced, and scattered about. I don’t see how it got a second season, but I guess some people might have liked it, or maybe since its shorter episodes it was worth finishing up another season? I don’t understand really.

Hajimete no Gal

The boobs in this series were fucking absurd. Who was the character designer for this and the manga? They need to go look at some real women to understand how boobs function. Holy shit was that a problem in this series. Unless the designers only watched porn with very fake breasts, they should have realized something was awry with their boob design. Holy fuck have I been waiting to complain about that for a while. Besides the boobs, pretty good anime, I laughed pretty hard actually, when the boobs were functioning like human boobs.

Hand Shakers

Now, the art style alone was a bit of a departure for me, but it also caught me attention so I gave it a shot. Hand Shakers story was rocky at best, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t actually bad. The concept of not being able to let go of her hand got real old fast, like come on that’s a horrible life flaw to force on someone, even anime wise. But oh well, I didn’t hate the anime, I found it enjoyable at least.

Juuni Taisen

Some people really loved Juuni Taisen, I was not one of those people. Don't get me wrong, it was actually pretty interesting; I enjoy that battle royal genre a lot. But I just couldn’t get behind the predictable episode structure and most unlikable characters. I was glad when I started to like people, but then they’d die off and make me feel like I wasted my joy. So, that was rough going, even if it was predictable in the end it was a fun watch.

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World - The Animated Series

Oh my god, Kino is a wonderful anime, but I couldn't make myself drop one of the other 12 down. So no don't think I didn't love this anime, I did, I adored it. The visuals were beautiful, the music was great, and each individual story was amazing. Episode 11 was incredible in my opinion, and a satisfying watch to realize how Kino came to be.

Konohana Kitan

I might be a bit slow, but I did NOT realize that the hotel was a kind of limbo til very late in the series. Did I miss some key dialogue? Maybe, someone let me know. But holy hell has this been an amusing watch. Its been beautifully animated, and on top of that the stories are all heartwarming.

Kuzu no Honkai

This fucking anime, holy shit this anime. I had some issues here. First of all, our two protagonists, like fuck, why didn't you end up together? Like, are you that childish that you can’t accept that you’ve made mistakes but are essentially good for each other? Also; Ecchan; can really go fuck off, her attitude drove me up a wall the entire series. What a horrible personality. God, I think I only made it through this because I was hoping for a happier ending and man did I not get that.

Little Witch Academia (TV)

Very unpopular opinion incoming. This should have stayed a movie. There, I said it. I didn't think it needed to be adapted into a full length anime. It felt like every episode dragged on and on and only felt like it reached a proper pacing structure towards the end when everything started to go down. Had the series been condensed to 12 episodes I get a feeling I may have been fonder of it.

Masamune-kun no Revenge

Masamune really needs his revenge; he went from tubby to abs in a few years. He needs to get vengeance for starving and working out to be healthy. Wait that sounds wrong, shouldn't he be thanking her for making him realize that he needed to get healthy and that she was kind of a bitch? That would be the logical outcome, but no, we get led into a lengthy hell. The manga has started to move towards the conclusion, which I think might satisfy me more than the anime did, but we'll see what happens.

New Game!!

More of the same and that's okay with me! Watching the game development process is fascinating! And the characters are all adorable and relatable! And so well drawn and animated. I really do love this series so much, even though it broke my heart with the last episodes. Oh well, I trust the writers!

Princess Principal

I really liked the series. But, I felt like I was watching the episodes out of order a lot of the time. That really threw the pacing through a loop in my opinion. I thought it was a lot more mature than I initially gave it credit for though, so that was good overall. I'm glad I watched it.

Re:Creators

This on the other hand, I regret bothering with. But I was so many episodes in by the time I regretted it that I couldn't just stop anymore. Man, this was not a good anime.

Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2

If you'e watched season 1, you know what season 2 is all about. Death, glory, fighting, WOO! While we do make some plot progress in season 2, we haven’t gotten to the real meat of the plot just yet, so hopefully another season and we'll get to the nice dark conspiracies!

Sword Art Online Movie: Ordinal Scale

I loved the Ordinal Scale movie. I was able to go see it in theaters and it was fantastic. While original content, it fit so well with the world that Sword Art Online has built. And the magnificent tease at the end. We will see Alicization soon enough boys!

Trinity Seven Movie: Eternity Library to Alchemic Girl

A shame I didn't get to see this in theaters, but man it was good. While not canon to the manga's story it held its own with a very interesting take on the series. I enjoyed it quite a lot.

UQ Holder!: Mahou Sensei Negima! 2

Oh god what a fucking train wreck. Why can't they make a good Negima anime? Is it really that hard to get it right? It was so fucking bad. Why can't you stick to the source material? Why must you skip so much? God fucking damn it.

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e (TV)

At least we end on a high note. This was one hell of a trip. The concept was cool and the animation was decent. They had some issues with slow pacing to start, but once the politics and drama began it just kept rolling. I wish it had had more episodes to give us more plot because with how it ended, you really are left wondering what the intentions of the main character are and where the story is leading. Oh well, hopefully it gets another season or if not I'll have to read the light novel.

And with that we come to a close, yet another year of anime. While I watched significantly less this year, it was still a lot I think. She keeps fighting with her boyfriend, so he rings the office and shes constantly on the phone therefore I’m not getting any messages because clients cant get through to her and she’s slacking. So I stay at the office until 8 pm trying to pick up the pieces and have done for the last month” I feel the tears forming in my eyes and my voice cracks when I say “ and I just need a cuddle”. I hear Jared sigh on the phone. “Sorry babe, I’m just feeling sorry, for myself, I just miss you a hell of a lot that’s all”. 

“Y/N listen. It’s okay to feel sorry for yourself, it sounds like you’ve got a lot on your shoulders right now and I’m sorry I cant be there” “Oh for fuck sake! Zeus has just pooped on the floor”. I interrupted. “Oh sweetie. After you’ve dealt with that you need to go and have a relaxing bath then bed” Jared convinced me. We said our goodbyes, tears leaving a transparent path down my face. I sat in the chair with my face in my hands. Zeus, the new bi-eyed Siberian husky puppy, (Jared got me before he left) came over to me and started to lick my tears. “Sorry bud, I’m not mad at you I wasn’t watching. Do you, your brother and sister want to go outside?” I asked them. All three of them ran to the patio door. Hunter, he was our first husky boy, then Echo, my princess came. All rescued of course. Such good company for when I was on my on. I closed the patio door behind them leaving the cool autumnal air outside. I boiled some water so I could make a tea. After rinsing the spoon I let the dogs back in and locked the door behind them and closed the curtains. I walked up the stairs with my pack behind me. Walking into the dully lit bedroom I rested my tea on my bedside table. Dragging my feet into the en-suite bathroom I started to run the bath. Took of my clothes and put them in the hamper. I dimmed the lights and slowly sank myself into the hot, bubbly water. Echo, my lovely girl, came in to check on me. She could always tell when I was upset. She licked my tears and made her way back to the bedroom. I watched the water slowly disappear down the drain and dried myself off. I walked into the bedroom and was met by 3 sets of eyes that glanced up from the bed. Picked out some pajamas, got into bed and started drinking my tea. *The Next Day* Tina called me into her office. “Y/N, why have you been staying until 8 pm?” She asked looking slightly pissed off. “Well I’ve been having problems with Lola, my new assistant” I continued to explain my troubles in the office. “Right let me sort something. Come back to me in 20 minutes”. I nodded and walked away. Back at my desk there was a parcel wrapped in brown paper and a red bow with a note. It read ‘To my gorgeous hard working woman. Love you. J x’. I opened it and it was a brand new mac-book. Bless him. He was truly my angel. I spent the 20 minutes setting everything up on the laptop. Once i’d finished I walked back into Tina’s office. “Y/N, for the past month you have been staying until 8 pm and sometimes later. You must be under a lot of stress. I understand your partner is away too. So I’ve made a executive decision, I’m going to give you 2 weeks off. You need to spend that time catching up with anything you need to, I’m also taking your first report. Don’t worry about the other two. I’ll get the editor on the first one and well, we’ll make it work”. Standing there in complete shock I didn’t know what to do. “I want you to leave normal time today 5 pm okay?” I nod my head, thanked her and walked out of her office with a beaming smile. Sat back down at my desk I looked up out of my door to see Lola on the phone to her boyfriend once again. I didn’t mid so much today because I wasn’t really getting any work done. I texted Shannon. ’ Hey Shan, Hope you’re all doing okay. I need a really big favor please. x He got back to me instantly. ‘Hey angel, all good here thank you, and yourself? What do you need? x ’ 'Yep all good here too thank you, well I have been given 2 weeks off from tomorrow, I want to fly out and surprise Jared. I need country, area, and hotel please. x’ 'That’s awesome. Yes I can do. I will send the details over for tomorrows location x’. After half an hour of speaking to Shannon I had booked my plane ticket and Shannon rang the hotel to let them know I was coming to stay with Jared. I had also phoned up a friend and she said she would look after the dogs. The only thing I needed to do was pack my bags. 5 pm came around faster than expected. I literally sped home and greeted by my 3 fur babies. A quick dinner was all I needed I grabbed my suitcase and stared packing. My friend came over to pick up the dogs and left. I went to bed.          My flight was at 1 pm. I quickly put on some clothes and a little makeup. The flight to Paris took around 11 hours. It was 9 pm in Paris luckily their hotel wasn’t too far from the airport. I arrived and checked in at the hotel. First thing I did was take a shower, thankfully the show didn’t end until 10:30 pm. I dolled myself up and made my way to the show. Shannon had hidden a backstage pass for me in the room, I made sure to take it with me. Finally backstage in their dressing room, I began to feel nervous. I could hear the show coming to a close and heard the rumbling of the boys down the hall. The door swung open. Jared’s face was shocked but he was so happy “Oh My God babe, what? How? I thought you were working. “Surprise” I shout. “I’ll explain later”. I received a hug off of Shannon and Tomo. “Uh, we’re gonna go for a walk” Tomo said. They both left the room and Jared and I were alone. He sat on the couch and patted the space next to him. I sat down. “How was the show?” I asked while stroking his hand. “Awesome and even better now you’re here” I giggled “Thank you for my gift by the way, I have something for you when we get back to the hotel room” I said putting my leg over so I was straddling him. He raised his eyebrows as I gently rocked my hips. “Oh really?” he questioned “Oh yeah” I moaned slightly bending down to kiss just below his ear. Kota Chapter 27: The Horrible, Terrible, No Good Day Continues

"I'm way too sore for this," Chat Noir complained when he landed next to Ladybug. "Firestarter was enough akumas for one day."

Ladybug rolled her eyes. "It's Ryuko. She was akumatized back into Riposte."

Honestly, Ladybug had been expecting something like this. Today had been a stressful day for everyone. Between Kagami being stressed out over that B (it was a hard assignment! Ms Tomoe really needed to lay off of her daughter), Alya getting kicked out of the school blog, and Lacy being picked on all morning by Lila and getting caught in an akuma attack during lunch, Ladybug had had a pit in her stomach telling her one of her friends was going to be akumatized.

Sometimes, she hated being right.

Riposte looked the same as last time they had fought her, but now she had the added power of turning random civilians into fencing partners. Ladybug was tempted to let her continue, to see if it was possible for her to burn her anger out, but the damage she was creating was too big to ignore.

"I vote for bringing in more heroes," Chat Noir requested.

"Already?" Ladybug questioned.

"I'm sore," Chat Noir whined.

"Okay, okay."

Ladybug thought for a moment. She'd need Carapace for his shield, Kota for her agility, and of course Ryuko was their best fencer-

Except Ryuko was the current akuma victim. And if Chat Noir was sore from Firestarter, then so would Carapace, who was much less experienced. And Lacy had been in that attack as a civilian - she deserved the afternoon off.

So who else?

The only other person on the team as athletic as Ryuko was Roi Singe. His power wouldn't be useful here, but his strength and athletic inclination would be.

Viperion would be another good ally. With his second chances, he'd had no doubt seen Ryuko fight a lot. He would know her fighting style well.

"I'm going to get Ryuko and Viperion," Ladybug said. She hesitated. "And do you remember Adrien?"

"Aspik?" Chat Noir questioned, surprised. "Why?"

"Adrien's Kagami's fencing partner," Ladybug said. "I bet he'd be helpful."

Chat Noir visibly hesitated, and then shook his head. "I... uh, I think I saw him ride off in his limo. Probably under guard and everything. Not a great idea." Chat Noir scratched the back of his neck.

"Well, then it'll be just the four of us," Ladybug said, feeling disappointed. She liked working with Adrien, and she also would have liked having a good fencer on her side while taking on Riposte. Chat Noir was talented, but if he was still worn out from Firestarter...

"I'll be back."

Lacy nervously sat on the edge of couch, watching Nora bring over two glasses of water.

"You okay?" Nora questioned, handing Lacy the glass of water.

Lacy nodded. "Yeah, just been a bad day today."

Attacked by an akuma and a monster in the same day. What fun.

Neither were exactly rare occurrences. Lacy may not have the strong scent other, more powerful demigods had, but she definitely had the bad luck. The empousa who had attacked her had been targeting someone else, and it was just Lacy's luck that the empousa had noticed her.

"Don't empousa usually travel in packs?" Lacy questioned.

"Sometimes," Nora confirmed. "But not always. Most monsters don't always stick the same pattern. And stray empousa are especially common here. We also have a few Celtic and Norse monsters that like to visit. And then there's the creepy ones that hang around the catacombs."

Lacy shuddered. The whole idea of the catacombs creeped her out.

"But none of them are a match for me, of course," Nora said. "So, what are you doing in Paris, Little L?"

Lacy grimaced at the Area cabin's nickname for her - started by Clarisse, back when she and Silena were inseparable. At camp, Lacy got teased a lot about being both Silena's and Piper's favorite (she was, in fact, Piper's favorite sister, but that's only because she was the first to treat her decently). With Silena having been so close to Clarisse, and Piper being respected by the Ares cabin for her part in the Giant War, Lacy had ended up with a nickname.

Also, she had immunity for being beat up, but that was more because Piper could be scary, and it extended to the rest of the cabin as well.

"My family moved here," Lacy said. "My dad's a therapist, and I think my family was started to get annoyed with all the almost apocalypses in New York."

It was more complicated than that. Brooklyn specifically wasn't safe, because of Egyptian magicians, and that was only the reason why they moved away - there were a lot of reasons why they chose to move to Paris. But Lacy didn't feel like explaining all of that.

Nora snorted. "You picked quite a city to move to. Not exactly the safest place here either."

"I noticed," Lacy replied. "But no one warned us of that before hand."

"I wish I could get my sisters out of here," Nora admitted.

Lacy nodded. It was well known at camp that Nora had three full sisters - a rarity for demigods, even considering the youngest two were twins. And children of Ares could get very protective when they cared about someone.

The door freaked open, and Nora peaked down the hallway.

"Speaking of sisters," Nora said.

Nora's sister peaked her head in, and Lacy was surprised to recognize her.

"Alya?"

"Hey, Lace," Alya greeted. "Nora."

"You two know each other?" Nora questioned.

"Yeah, Lacy's in our class," Alya said, dropping her backpack on the ground and heading into the kitchen. "Why? Have you two met?"

"Funny enough, yeah," Nora said. "Lacy attends that camp I was telling you about."

"Cool." Alya grabbed a glass, poured some orange juice, and heading out of the kitchen. "I have homework, I'll talk to you later."

"Yeah," Nora agreed.

Lacy and Nora watched her disappear.

"Somethings up," Nora stated.

Lacy nodded. Alya had looked depressed the entire time, though she hid it well.

"Hope Lila didn't do anything," Lacy said. "She's been a menace recently."

"I should go talk to her," Nora said. "Can you find your way back to your place okay?"

Lacy nodded. "I'll be fine." Unless today decides to throw another attack on me. She still smelled of smoke, even after showering off.

Lacy stood up and reached for her bag, but paused. "You haven't told Alya yet, have you?"

"Of course not," Nora snapped. "It's too risky. Her scent would be stronger, and then I'd have to take her to camp to train."

Lacy frowned. "What's wrong with that? Alya's past the age she's supposed to be claimed by. And learning about being a demigod - well, it could help her."

It had helped Lacy. Her dad sent her to camp a lot younger than most as a way to boost her confidence after an awful school year. Camp Half-Blood wasn't just filled with demigods, but a bunch of teenagers who had similar struggles. Talking with her cabin about having ADHD and dyslexia had been eye-opening for Lacy, especially after everything her teacher that year had put her through because he didn't believe she actually had ADHD.

Alya likely had similar problems, though Lacy didn't know her well enough to be sure. She definitely had ADHD symptoms, like her ability to hyper-focus on something for hours. And like Lacy, she had specifically transferred that year to Francois DuPont, a school known for helping students with learning disabilities (a reputation Lacy was beginning to think they didn't deserve, but that was besides the point).

Nora hesitated. "I don't think she's ready for it."

"She chases superheroes," Lacy argued.

"And I wish she would stop," Nora countered. "But that's not my point. I just don't think she'd fit in with my cabin."

It was a good point. The children of Area were very aggressive - and while Alya could be stubborn, she wasn't violent.

"Lots of demigods don't 'fit in' with their cabin," Lacy argued. "Piper, AJ, Minnie, Butch - do not tell him I said that - Leah, Becca, Alex C - none of them fit in. But they still learn a lot from camp, and they're all involved with their cabin now."

Nora sighed. "You have a point. I guess. But it's my decision."

"At the moment," Lacy said. "You never know what might happen."

Especially on a day like today, she grumbled internally.

Marinette dragged herself up the stairs to Fu's apartment.

Fu let her in, and offered her some tea before fetching the miracle box.

"Choose an alley you can trust," he said as the box opened.

Marinette immediately went for the monkey and snake miraculous.

"If you don't mind me asking, this latest akuma is Ryuko, correct?" Fu questioned.

Marinette nodded. "Kagami's has a rough day today. We all have."

Fu raised an eyebrow. "Did something happen?"

"You mean besides the fire akuma earlier?" Marinette questioned. "Well, Lila was being herself today. She was picking on Lacy all morning - and she got Alya kicked off of the school blog! Alya was so disappointed, and I'm just so mad about it." Marinette noticed her hands had clenched into fists, and she forced herself to relax. "And it's not only that. I think - I think the stress of it all is getting to me."

"You do have a stressful job," Fu observed. "I wish I could do more to help."

"Perhaps there is something more that you could do," Tikki piped up. "Luka was teaching Marinette some relaxation techniques earlier. If you have any you could show her-"

"I would be happy to show you some," Fu said. "Not tonight, unfortunately - I have a customer in a few minutes."

"And I have a job to do," Marinette added. "But thank you. I'll take you up on that."

If Riposte knew who he was, he would be getting a verbal lashing for his poor fencing form right now. Kagami never let Adrien off easy while sparring. Thankfully, Riposte didn't know she was fighting her fencing partner, and was being (mostly) quiet about his apparent lack of fencing skills.

Adrien could beat Kagami, and Chat Noir could beat Ryuko, when they're evenly matched. He had before. But Riposte had a clear advantage here, and Chat Noir was struggling to keep up.

Riposte feinted and Chat Noir fell for it, leaving him open as Riposte moved in and disarmed him. She held her saber up to his throat.

"You're not usually this sloppy, Chat Noir," Riposte said. "You're taking all the fun out of it."

"Care for a rematch then? Best two out of three?"

Riposte snarled.

Chat Noir back up, heels hitting the edge of the rooftop they were on. Below him, his baton was laying motionless on the street.

Chat Noir smiled.

"What?" Riposte said.

"Don't you know cats always land on their feet?"

Chat Noir took an extra step backwards, falling off of the roof. He twisted and landed in a roll, the street slamming into his back.

He reached for his baton, grabbing it just as Riposte landed on a car next to him.

"I don't think that counts as landing on your feet," she noted, sounded slightly confused.

Chat Noir straightened up. "It's the spirit of it. Now, rematch?"

Riposte snarled and attacked, forcing Chat Noir to block. Chat Noir dodged another thrust, backing up and then jumping on another car.

Riposte moved forward, jumping off her car and moving onto the street.

This time, Chat Noir attacked first, using the high ground as best as he could. Riposte still forced him to back up, and she jumped up onto the car.

Chat Noir attacked, pushing as much energy into each strike as he could. Riposte blocked with ease.

Riposte pushes forward, slamming her saber into his stomach and sending him flying off of the car onto the street.

"Best three out of five?" Chat Noir wheezed as Riposte approached.

"Only if you promise to be more interesting this time," Riposte replied.

Chat Noir rolled back onto his feet and fell into his fencing stance.

Okay I was involved in a hit an run accident a little over 2 weeks ago. I have full coverage insurance including uninsured and underinsured coverage. Also the required 10,000$ personal injury protection required by my state KY. My policy is with AAA. I owe around 9,000$ on my truck still, but was told finally yesterday that AAA is settling my vahicle loss at a little over 13,000$. I'm trying to find out how long is this going to take before I get money from them so I can get another car. I have injuries and can't get back an forth to my Dr and physical therapy. So I need this to happen like yesterday. But trying to figure out if since my claim is going under uninsured motorist protection since it was hit an run should I be able to get a rental car for the time being even if I didn't have rental coverage? And I am also an independent contractor doing vehicle title work and various other things for an automotive shop. I'm not on payroll since I contract my own work and pay my own taxes at end of the year. My attorney told me that since I didn't have a job where I received regular payroll checks I could not claim loss wages. Why is this? And is there anything I can do to speed this process up? As of now I have minimal use of my right arm because I injured my shoulder in accident and so far Dr has me off work till end of January. Mini Coopers? Cheap? Insurance? Safe? First car!?

i'm 17 and was wondering if a mini cooper would be a good first car. i never really wanted one, my one of my friends is like obsessed with them and since then i've been looking into it. i know they have 5 star safety rating so they're very safe and easy to control and can fit into small parking spaces because, well, they're small =) But how about insurance? Is that cheap? I mean if i'm getting a used one? Not a sporty model or anything. And what about maintenance? And is it fuel-friendly? Or would it be like driving a hummer? Considering what I've seen and read about it, it can either be really expensive if you buy the wrong model and the new car, OR it can be very effecient and affordable if you buy a used one and the right model.
