if klaus and bonnie remet post canon (assuming that klaus didn’t die in TOs5) how to you think their dynamic would change? would their newfound life experiences heavily alter how they view each other now?

Bonnie’s time on the series ends so open-ended, it’s a huge gap from the series finale and TO but she does have a different outlook on the supernatural world around her through her friendships + former romance with Enzo. Klaus certainly would be all about Hope in a post s5 sense but because he’s a paranoid man if he crosses paths with Bonnie he will want to know what is up. Bonnie would be bothered by Klaus attempting to check her to ensure she isn’t a threat to Hope’s safety, but she’s never seen the softer side to him that he has with Hope. She’d be interested and want to know more about how he’s changed since Hope’s been in his life. There is no way for Bonnie to be a Mystic Falls resident (keeping canon in mind) and not knowing who Hope is even if Bonnie knows Hope as Hope Marshall, not Mikaelson. There would be work for Klonnie to straighten out on trusting each other post those series finales. In another light once they get past their struggles and judgements it could be another chance at love for them both if they open themselves to that and work on their relationship. Bonnie isn’t who she was at 17, and Klaus isn’t completely who he was when he first came into town. They’d have different outlooks on life since the years have kept them parted but those differences could be what’s needed to bring them closer. They’d have plenty to discuss Klaus never even knew Bonnie was a huntress for example, she doesn’t know Klaus was put down for five years by his own son. It’ll be work for them both but manageable. I think Hope would love another relatable witch figure in her life. She’s never seen Klaus in a actual relationship, she was a baby when Cami was around. She’s aware of his past with Aurora and her mother but nothing else regarding Klaus’ relationships.

I firmly reject Julie’s thoughts that Bonnie spends the rest of her life post-Enzo traveling, single with plenty of meaningless flings never settling down anywhere or loving again. S8 told us that Bonnie wants a good life and love like her friends. She may have loved Enzo for three years at 19-23/24 but it doesn’t mean she can’t find that again in someone else later on she’d be in her early-to-mid 30s around TO’s timeline. Bonnie would’ve moved on. She can have more than “one epic love” despite TVDU’s rule with that.

Caroline Forbes 5

My favorite ship of them

Honestly, if we're going by 'ship as in relationship, of any kind, my real favourite is Caroline-Liz (also Caroline & the twins, but I'm doing a lot of the heavy lifting there as a fan lol). The good is uplifting and wonderful, the bad is interesting and gives me a lot to think about. It remains one of my favourite mother-daughter dynamics to this day, and those are catnip for me in general.

Caroline-Elena is another candidate for favourite dynamic because I'm FASCINATED by how they work on a Doylist level. Watsonian wise there isn't much: two girls that deep down don't like each other much (although lbr, Caroline was a much better friend to Elena than viceversa).

If we go by "romantic ship" things get more complicated, especially because it's dependent on where I'm at in a rewatch lol. In terms of absolutely wrecking me as a romance, it's definitely Forwood. I love the journey, the endearing beginnings, the painful middle, the inevitable, muted tragedy of the end.

Then there's Steroline, which, let's all be honest, it's the one SHE wanted most. It gets to be a favourite just for that. Especially because I couldn't care less about Stefan's feelings LOL. He's there to be a prize for Caroline, a symbol of her meteoric rise through the show, and nothing more. Steroline is the embodiment of Caroline's triumph.

And Klaroline is its spark. I'm hardly overcome by mushy emotions when it comes to this ship (although I'm not immune to season 5 of The Originals so. We'll see when I get there), but all my mercenary instincts make me appreciate it for exactly what it is. Caroline's never in love with Klaus, IMO (although there's a "what we could have been" on a Watsonian level about TOS5 that packs the appropriate punch), and that does diminish it in my eyes even if it obviously aided her narrative.

The point being, when it comes to romantic pairings, I'm a bit torn xD. But when all things are said, all episodes watched, and I've gained some distance, I tend to pick Klaroline. There are a lot of elements in it that are particular to my liking (the explosive first meeting, the blood-sharing, the star-crossed/doomed quality of it -though that does fit all of them xD-, the similarities in personality once you took a closer look, the almost-exes dynamic, etc.). So I'd say that wins.
