Found myself knowing with very sudden and very strong certainty that I needed this horse. I'm still not sure what I actually want his name to be and I already changed it once after purchase. That's what being on SSO at 1 am gets you.

Villain: Madoc Marhand, He who  Bled the World
“ I did only what was in my power to save the innocents in my care, the gods have deemed that I shall never be forgiven for the sin of my compassion
Remember that, hero, next time they call your name.”
Once a mage in service to the crown of a besieged kingdom, Madoc ripped out his soul and unleashed an army of demons in the hopes of saving his home. For this selfless blasphemy he was damned by the gods and imprisoned within a fortress high in the mountains, unable to die or pass on and forced to endure over a century of frigid agony.
Things have changed however: a new evil has broken the locks on Madoc’s cage, and promised the wizard revenge against the gods in exchange for the creation of a new army, an army that will descend from the peaks to raze villages and temples as they carry out the old man’s spite.
Adventure Hooks:
The party are likely to hear about Madoc long before actually encouring him, as the infamy of his crimes lives on in sorrowful songs and the many memorials to the causalities of those he summoned. Stragglers from this fiendish warband are likely lingering in dark places of the world, occupying ruined fortresses and other defensible locations as they protect the spoils they reaved during their hayday. These locales are heavily fortified, and frequently bear murals of some storm-laden hell that the fiends see in their dreams.
Blood shed in violence is the medium by which Marhand summons his fiends, working rites over a cursed cauldron bubbling with cruor to give shape to new warriors corresponding with the strength of the blood given. His own has long turned to dust, so he starts with animals and when one of his first models escapes the party are called to stop the rampage of a fiendish ram terrorizing the mountain’s foothills. The beast is said to  grow in size and strength each time it is killed, and is already the size of a cottage by the time the heroes face it. They must be careful in their hunt, lest they create a creature too great to contain.
Few give heed to the mountain tribes, considering them savages and cattle thieves, so few will be paying attention when the folk of the peaks begin to circulate rumours that their people are disappearing, hunters and trailfinders being taken in the night. This is one of the only preludes to Madoc’s army rising once again, and the party might only hear about it in mawkish tavern talk or if they lend an ear to a shunned outlander.
The climb to reach the Worldbleeder’s prison is perilous, with steep slopes giving way to blizzards and sheer cliff faces that could spell disaster no matter how cautious the party might be. They’d be better off seeking a means of flight, perhaps carming a wind-elemental to lift them aloft or seeking aid from an isolationist eyrie of aarakokra who live in the region, and could be convinced to see that Madoc filling the peaks with demons is just as much a threat to them as the lowlanders.

Tuesday 23rd April 2024
On our last morning on the Shamwari Game Reserve we were not permitted a lie in. Oh no, still lots to do. So we had a half hour warning at 06.30 to present ourselves for breakfast and then Raymond was to take us to the Shamwari Rehabilitation Centre to see what they do with defective animals. Unlike Born Free, the object is to fix the problem and get the animals back out into the wild where they belong, and frankly we were amazed at the time and dedication they were prepared to put into saving animals. This is an impressive new facility built as recently as 2018 for the Shamwari Game Reserve and it is an integral part of the conservation work they do on site. We saw a white rhino orphaned at birth so had been hand reared, being fed milk till 18 months old, with the plan that it'll be released when 2 years old. Being a wild animal it butts the keeper rather badly when the milk run is ready to be performed. They needed a routine to pacify the animal first before delivering the white stuff and the method devised is to blindfold him and put earmuffs on first. Rhino needed companionship, and surprisingly this is provided by Frank the sheep! They didn't get on initially but now they are inseparable.
This team is remarkable. They have Patrick the giraffe, abandoned at birth and reared also by hand. I imagined a giraffe at birth might possibly be the size of a giant stick insect. Apparently a new born giraffe is a good 2 meters tall! Patrick is doing fine. A new avenue for the centre is vultures. They have recently received some 50 or so vultures who have been injured and are now in the process of recovery. Vultures are useful in cleaning up carcasses and preventing rats and blowflies which restricts the spread of disease. A major success story was the surgery performed on a severely injured white rhino left for dead after poachers cut his horn off and basically leaving a hole in its head! Rhino are still very much sought by poachers who can get $1M for a horn in the US which buys an awful lot of corrupt officials turning blind eyes!
Other inmates are elephants, jackals and meerkats. These are long-term projects and release to the wild takes time, ensuring that the animal will be able to cope on its own.
We took a wide loop back to the lodge on the lookout for any animals we might have missed, but it was like the apocalypse had come, there were none to see! So we settled up, paid a vast amount in tips, jumped back into the VW (now exceedingly clean after the staff had valeted it) and roared off down the dusty road replacing the dust removed with a bucketload of fresh dust and out towards the main gate heading for Port Elizabeth and our replacement hotel; The Hacklewood Hill Country House, built 1898 for Mr & Mrs Mattingly. Now a five star Victorian boutique hotel somewhat favoured by Trailfinders I think. This is home for the night although we shall have to abandon it tomorrow morning in favour of a very early flight to Johannesburg and then on to Kasane in Botswana where we shall be transferred to the Chobe Game Reserve.
ps What a fantastic experience this section of our trip has been. Shamwari has been great both for service and terrific food we have been provided and also for the insight into the animals and their habitat we have been voyeurs to. To be feet away from the majesty of lions, the power and size of elephants, the height, grace and elegance of giraffes is absolutely mind blowing. To see close up the endangered, hunted, but thankfully protected rhino is quite awe inspiring. It is easy to forget that these animals are entirely wild, would easily kill you, but are in their natural environment and are living the life they deserve. After the recent rains the vegetation is so lush and green and the animals are loving it.
pps We have begun our course of anti malarial tablets essential because of the risk in Botswana. We have been warned of side effects!
ppps Superb meal tonight at the hotel. Ostrich steak, really nice and eating out here is so cheap!!

Want to know some insight? read this!
Throughout the semester, developing Trailfinders has been a journey filled with valuable insights into my technopreneurship class. Honestly, making or developing an application from scratch is totally insane. Why? There are lots of factors that you as an innovator have to consider such as the funds, manpower, or team that you will be working with, the target market, and even the storming process to introducing the product to the market is actually challenging. But eventually, that experience made some impact and forgettable memories for me and my team.
Tumblr media
But when it comes to the lessons that my instructor Sir Wilbur has taught us, I may say that it's very factual and true-to-life. I think I will just incorporate my learnings from this semester into the application app that we made.
First, is Understanding Market Needs, this means that I've learned that being an entrepreneur is you have to understand your market need. Just like what we did in Trail Finder, the problem that we identified is the students' struggles in finding their friends inside the campus. In short, identifying a niche market need, such as helping students locate friends on campus, is crucial for the success of a technopreneurial venture.
Tumblr media
Second, is what we call Market Research, this simply means conducting thorough market research to validate the demand for your app is essential before diving into development. Just like what we did in the planning phase of our application.
Tumblr media
Lastly, Continuous Learning, which means staying updated with the latest trends and technologies, is key to sustaining innovation and competitiveness in the tech industry. Even after the presentation of our application, we didn't stop learning. And that's what makes studying technopreneurship unique.

OMG, that was the last of our true adventures for this trip. its relaxing and down time from now on. Currently sitting by the hotel pool having a few Caipirinhas. It's cloudy but at least that means we have no noisy families and kids to contend with as Trailfinders have booked us into a family hotel. Ann keeps reminding me that we were these people once. And as I say, it was a f ing long time ago. Nice also to see the Citizens raise the EPL trophy live via twitter in peace and quiet.
Just to let you know from my last post, bags arrived safely, so no dramas there.
I think the two most memorable and incredible adventures have actually occurred since my last post. First of all seeing Jaguars live in the wild, and not by sqinting through the glass at Chester zoo, but up close with no fence or glass between the things and us. Despite the guides saying they don't 'NORMALLY' attack humans, being 6 feet away with the animal looking at me in the eyes and licking its lips made my heart leap into my mouth, until it focussed its eyes on Ann and I consoled myself with the fact I can run faster than her. Seriously amazing experience. Since then we have moved onto Iguazzu Falls. Some awesome sites, especially from a helicopter flying over the falls. It was an advantage having long legs as I had to sit in the front with the best view. Plenty of photos on facebook for those interested. The first part of the day was on the Argentinian side with multiple border crossings involved. I now have more Brazilian stamps in my passport than Stanley gibbons. The late afternoon we were on the Brazilian side ( or straight down the middle as it appeared ) please dont make me explain that one. The wildlife was varied, and we encountered our first snake of the trip. Fortunately my life was saved by our guide, who stopped me before I stepped on a poisonous snake whose venom takes 5 hours to kill a human. However he spent the next 20 minutes doing his Steve Irwin impression by trying to get the snake off the trail. Who cares about others, I could have f ing died.
Anyway we survived and its another story to tell. Can't wait to bore you all with these stories and the photos.
Looking forward to a bit of relaxing and not having to pack our bags every two days. Speak to you soon.
Blue Moon is still not waning.

RFU Championship: Doncaster Knights Granted Clear Pathway Whilst Ealing Trailfinders are Denied the Green Light
Rugby in England has a curious way of shooting itself in the foot. From refusing professional status up until 1995 to debilitating tackle height laws in grass roots, rugby in England has seen a gradual decrease in interest as the RFU continuously spoil a promising product. The tier system in England is one of efficiency and sporting fairness, however, what we’ve seen in the RFU Championship may not support such values.
This time last year, Ealing Trailfinders won the RFU Championship in dominant fashion marking the conclusion of a fairy-tale climb from the National Division South third tier, all the way up the English rugby pyramid, to the promised land of the Gallagher Premiership. However, the celebrations were short lived as the RFU ruled that Ealing were not eligible for promotion and would have to remain in the countries second division for at least another season.
Like a sulking child, Ealing obliged and set out to make history once more. This they may do, as they lead the Championship table going into the closing stages of the season. Though, winning the league this year would make history in another way as they would become the first club to consecutively win the Championship without going up.
This is because in their most recent ruling, the RFU have stated that Ealing Trailfinders will be denied promotion, seeing them play yet another season in England rugby’s second division despite leading the league for the second year in a row. The RFU’s reasons to block the promotion is due to Ealings stadium capacity, which holds 5,000 people, half of the required 10,000. In February 2023, the RFU confirmed that for another season, Ealing will not be allowed to go up.
Tumblr media
‘I’m disappointed, we’re all disappointed’ states Tom Hawking, a media professional at the club. ‘We’ve all been working so hard and its hard because we clearly have the skills and talent to move up’.
Ealing had finished runners up for six consecutive seasons before finally winning the league and their instruction to remain in the league meant no teams would move between the two divisions including those who suffered relegation from the Premiership. ‘It feels strange that in a professional sport, there can be stagnation after a season. I don’t think it’s good for the game to be honest. I don’t know how long they can allow this as people will get disinterested with the jeopardy element lost from the game’.
Hawking also believes that this strict ruling from the RFU is bad for the individual clubs being told they can’t go up, not just the league system itself. ‘You begin to ask; “what’s our goal here?” because if we’re already the best team in the league and there’s no opportunity for us to improve against better opposition then we’ll have waisted that potential and begin to rot away in the league’.
He continues by admitting it can be difficult to stay motivated due to Ealing’s goal in promotion continuously taken out of reach. ‘You work hard for months and at the end of it all you read the news headline saying that it was all for nothing. It’s really frustrating, sometimes you think; “what’s the point?”
However, despite the frustration, Hawking claims that he fears there may be no simple solution to the issue Ealing finds itself in. ‘We’re not like most clubs in the sense where all departments here are close and we all talk so naturally we’ve spoken about this and it doesn’t seem hopeful’. He continued to claim this may be due to the RFU’s lack of transparency over the dilemma. ‘Initially we needed planning permission but being in a built up area it’s more realistic to move which wouldn’t be easy by any means. Some of us believe that the RFU aren’t supporting us, its almost like they don’t want us to be promoted’.
However, a club that will be motivated with the recent RFU ruling will be Doncaster Knights who will be granted promotion if they win the Championship. The south Yorkshire club satisfied the minimum standard criteria and are eligible for promotion to the Premiership at the end of the 2022/23 season. Despite Castle Park, Doncaster Knight’s home ground, holding a capacity of just 5,000, the club have received planning permission that would extend the capacity to beyond 10,000 and therefore adhered to the RFU’s criteria for promotion. The club have additionally provided detailed information regarding the safety assurance process to be undertaken by their local authority which has prompted the RFU’s enthusiastic seal of approval.
Tumblr media
‘Were delighted but this has only given us more incentive to work harder’ said Paul Strait, an analyst at the Doncaster Knights. ‘As it stands we’re only eligible to go up but we’re not in a position in the table where that’s possible so we’ve got to take this as motivation’.
Doncaster Knights currently sit 6th in the RFU Championship table and therefore wont get promoted if they finish in this position, even if a club that’s not eligible for promotion wins the league. ‘The reality is that it will be very difficult to go up this season’ stated Paul, “having said that, its an important moment for the club, it’s like a confirmation that we’re moving in the right direction’.
Doncaster Knights hold the title of being the most promoted club in the English rugby tier system yet have never climbed as far as the Premiership. However, Strait believes this could change in the upcoming years; ‘if you look over the past decade and beyond, we’ve had an upwards trajectory and I think when you look at our performances in the Championship, especially last year, we can definitely see Premiership rugby as a realistic goal’.
The English top two divisions will endure a second consecutive season of stagnation as no teams will be promoted nor relegated which will demand questions over how beneficial this is to a game that’s already decreasing in popularity in England. However, with revenue numbers at a critical stage, how likely is it that the RFU make a change to their strict promotion laws?

Friday 19th April 2024
Jeffreys Bay, named after the whaler Captain Jeffreys and now referred to as J-Bay is now the centre of the surfer scene and apparently often ranked in the top 10 world surfing arenas. Jeffrey and Glendinnings opened a store here in 1849 and a town sprang up around them. Because no doubt of the surf, It became a hippie hangout in the sixties and seventies. Now with a total population of more than 27,000, it is first white, followed closely by black; the first language being Afrikaan. It seems to be a town divided with clearly an impoverished black community living in poor circumstances. Then there's obviously a rich set both residents and white holiday makers. But the town is being developed with new housing hopefully to replace the shantie townships, very impressive new shopping mall with upmarket shops, schools and a new hospital under development. There is hope for this place.
This morning we looked at the must-see tourist attractions and came up with a short list, a very short list. We selected the Kabeljous Nature Reserve; 2.5k of coastline enclosing wetland and bushveld with many available routes to hike. We were most pleased, we found this a highly agreeable place. As we arrived, so a local school party was just leaving, so clearly it is used as a teaching aid. We followed paths to a view point and then on via a salt lagoon subsequently onto the dunes and the sea for lunch. Back through a type of heather and circumnavigating the area. Very enjoyable. The only experience denoting not being in our own back yard might have been the snake tracks in the sand. Oh, and the lovely weather perhaps.
Calling in at the shopping mall we collected a couple of Danish pastries for a princely sum of 40p each!
Tomorrow we are moving on again and will be entrusting the remainder of this holiday into the care of Trailfinders, starting with the Shamwari Game Reserve. So we didn't wish to buy anymore food which meant we needed to eat out and the place we ate on Wednesday sprang immediately to mind. The food is superb at this place on the beach with the beach on the floor. They say that dressing for dinner is not necessary, in fact if you have shoes on, you are overdressed. The staff do not wear shoes; and the waitresses resemble the women in hi-de-hi with their little shorts. Martine partook of the hake and chips, I had oxtail. Excellent.
We shall miss this place, it's been great, but we are very much looking forward to the next phase and the game reserves.
ps We have a gas geyser to supply hot water. It runs cold. The only reliable way we have found to make the water hot is to turn the gas hob on!
