this might be for only me but - what if Trigger's Spare Squadron plane turned out to be a Transformer ex-con.
SO this ex-con was saved by Scrap Queen bc he was dragged to the 444 base. He ends up as Triggers plane and they are the Dynamic Duo - an ace pilot and a former seeker. I'm thinking a name like 'SkyBound'.
'Don't worry kid, we're all criminals here'.
based on the F/A-18E Super Hornet | TGM vers. the fun thing is they can be whatever plane u main bc that's how transformers work. I was just excited about putting the strikes on their chest

I know this sounds weird but what if Desmond turned into an airplane? It wouldn't leave me all week and I needed answers.
Hi nonny, I’m so sorry if this wouldn’t leave you for a month now because I couldn’t answer you any sooner. (For those wondering, that’s right, I’m still trying to answer and reblog posts and asks from Sept 17 onward. So sorry TTATT)
Not gonna lie, making Desmond into an airplane made me immediately think of Bismuth the Crone who can become a jet for some reason in Oxventure.
Then I remember…
I mean we could easily make this a Transformers AU but then…
There is one AC that does have planes as a major part of their story…
Ace Combat.
And that brings to mind one of the fastest planes in Ace Combat 7 that I may or may not have used a lot because it has a pure white skin:
YF-23 Black Widow II (usually just called YF-23)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it’s one of the most compatible fighter for Desmond because this is its description:
"A large stealth fighter and finalist in the Advanced Tactical Fighter competition. Its advanced speed and stealth capabilities make it ideal for preemptive strikes. One nickname for the prototype was "Black Widow II"."
This doesn’t even have to be an Ace Combat crossover if you don’t want it to be (although you can totally do it because Ace Combat has an AI that went megalomaniac after gaining self-awareness so you can totally make Desmond the AI of a specific YF-23 that’s meant to be a prototype of an AI support companion project who is supposed to be mimicking the personality of a person and the pilot realizes that the AI is slowly gaining self-awareness or… maybe even remembering more of the personality it’s mimicking, including his memories), this could be an AU where the Brotherhood is part of an Air Force of a country that’s being invaded or something (you can totally base it on Aurelia as well since the Aurelian Air Force squads are named after birds… and they have an Aquila Squadron too)
Anyway, the main idea is that DESMOND would be taking on the role of the support AI prototype on board of a YF-23 where the main character of your choice would be piloting. From there, DESMOND would be seen as an AI mimicking a person’s personality with the mystery starting to pile up as DESMOND starts talking about ‘past memories’ and even talking to the main character in a way that makes it sound like the AI is either gaining more self-awareness or getting memories.
Then the main character and DESMOND would learn that DESMOND is based on the late Desmond Miles, one of the lead developers of the AI project of which DESMOND was based of.
The AI Project by the name…
CAPITOLINE TRIAD.

Overloading my brain by trying to imagine how Super Robot Wars with all the mecha media I've seen would work
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (In crossovers, the first step is always the most ordinary one.)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury (Two series in and we already have two different definitions of the word "Gundam", off to a great start. At least these definitions are fairly compatible.)
MSG: Universal Century circa Zeta Gundam (More like universal attendance amirite? Also, we've got a third definition of "Gundam" that's not compatible with the definitions from the AU series; nobody in their right mind would name their new brand of mechas after ones that kill their pilots.)
Code Geass (Not sure how to reconcile both the Federation and Britannia being around, but SRW has done it before.)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Humans don't even rule the Earth in this one.)
Robotech (Yo dawg, I heard you like mecha crossovers, so I put a crossover pretending to be a generational epic in your crossover so you could crossover while you crossover.)
Last Hope (If the generic name means you have no clue what I'm talking about, it's a Netflix exclusive anime. The only series here in which giant non-sapient monsters exist.)
Dragon Pilot (Nothing in common with the rest of these series tonally, and the real-world Japan setting directly contradicts Code Geass.)
Daemon ex Machina (So the moon colonies from UC are just fucked, right?)
Pacific Rim (Okay, maybe not the only series with giant monsters.)
Ace Combat (Belka and the aggressor squadrons from 5 would make good overarching plot, and you can justify the series' traditional missiles you can dodge with one turn by saying that's the best you can do with Ahab reactors and Minovsky particles in play.)
From Yu-Gi-Oh, Sky Striker lore, Melffys piloting Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus, and Kaiba in defictionalized versions of his XYZ machine monsters and Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon (Here exactly because someone online proposed this as a way to put Yu-Gi-Oh in SRW and I liked their answer.)
And, of course, any number of pilot-a-ship bullet hells depending how loose I feel like playing it. The first boss of Dondonpachi Resurrection can transform between a humanoid mode and an airplane mode just like the Zeta Gundam.

Who's Who In The DC Universe #2: Balloon Buster, Baron Bedlam, Baron Blitzkrieg, Baron Winters, the Barren Earth, and Bat Lash
Balloon Buster by Joe Kubert
Steven Henry Savage, Jr was born and raised in Mustang River, Wyoming
Trained by his poverty-stricken father to be a consummate marksman
Enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the onset of World War I
Repeatedly disobeyed orders, breaking formation to attack and destroy the German combat balloons, earning the nickname “Balloon Buster”
His commanding officer, Major Michaels, continually sought to court-martial Savage, General Talbot of High Command applauded his actions and demanded he be kept in combat
Savage was one of the most aggressive warriors of the first World War often dueled with his counterpart, Germany’s Enemy Ace
I never read much of the war comics from the various companies. I will say Enemy Ace received the cooler nickname. Balloon Buster had one post-Crisis appearance in a Batman comic James Robinson, writer of Starman and The Golden Age, tied the Balloon Buster to several previous DC characters. Matt “Trail Boss” Savage became the father of Brian “Scalphunter” Savage who became the father of Steven Henry Savage (no longer a Jr). Trail Boss and Scalphunter were stars of DC’s western comics. Robinson loved connecting various characters into a legacy line (read Starman to see how he connects all “Starmen” from Ted Knight to Thom Kallor into a single Starman legacy). The Wild West was circa the 1860s and World War II was 1914 – 1918, so Scalphunter could have fathered Balloon Buster. All three characters were marksmen so it works.
Baron Bedlam by Jim Aparo
Frederick DeLamb was the son of the regent installed upon the Markovian throne by the Nazis during World War II
DeLamb’s father exploited the position to enrich himself
Allied forces restored King Victor Markov to the throne near the end of the World War II
The DeLambs fled Markovia and amassed a fortune in an as-yet-undisclosed manner
Frederick DeLamb, calling himself Baron Bedlam, returned to Markovia, and attempted a coup to put himself on the throne
Baron Bedlam’s coup was thwarted by Brion Markov (aka Geo-Force) and members of the newly formed Outsiders
Frederick was captured by the Markovian people and is presumably dead or in prison
Well, Bedlam wasn’t dead as I remember seeing him in an Infinity Inc/Outsiders crossover I read. I don’t remember seeing Bedlam in any comics after the 1980s but its likely he made further appearances in the various Outsiders series. Bedlam with an updated origin featured in the Young Justice season (3?) that focused on Brion, Tara, and Halo.
Baron Blitzkrieg by Rich Hoberg & Tanghal
A Prussian nobleman who was made a concentration camp commandment.
A ruthless administrator who incurred the hatred of his prisoners.
A newly arrived inmate threw a vial of acid at him which quickly destroyed his features.
Hitler used the opportunity to have his scientists begin months of experimentation on the man.
The Prussian nobleman was transformed into a human fighting machine, a new tool for Hitler’s plan for world conquest.
The Baron battled the World’s Finest, the All-Star Squadron, and Wonder Woman.
Like Two Face, Blitzkrieg’s face was disfigured by acid. The difference is Two-Face is an interesting character. I don’t think the Baron has been seen since the 1980s and I don’t see him making a reappearance any time soon.
Baron Winters by Gene Colan & Bob Smith
Little is known of the Baron’s early days. He is said to have been a carnival baker, a teacher, a wizard, a writer, a king, and more.
He studied in another reality where he broke the laws by falling in love with another student, Katrina.
Their short-lived union produced a son, Gowan, who for centuries hade his father’s uncaring attitudes.
Winters maintains he’s been an advisor to emperors, warriors, and barbarians.
He has settled in Georgetown, Washington DC, and deals with the arcane arts.
He formed a group called the Night Force.
His mansion is connected to a “time-stream” that allows him to move from one century to the next.
Rarely leaves his mansion, preferring to remain inside with his cat, Merlin. Only leaving to solve mysteries that pique his interest.
Katrina and Gowan have come to live with the Baron along with Alice Jones, a time-displaced woman from the 1930s.
I feel for the Baron – I too would prefer to remain at home with my cats and books. I have a vague memory of reading a Baron Winters appearance in the 1980s – perhaps in the Swamp Thing storyline that involved multiple magic users. Maybe with Madame Xanadu? Another character that hasn’t been seen in a while but a talented writer could have fun with the Baron.
The Barren Earth by Ron Randall
Far in the future, the sun cooled and expanded, becoming a red giant.
Most of humanity fled to the stars but some remained, protected from the devastation by the walls of D’Roz, a floating city.
Mastering techniques which greatly expanded their longevity, these “Old Ones” embarked on a genetic engineering program.
They repopulated the Earth with new life-forms fierce and hardy enough to thrive in the blasted environment.
Two genetically altered human variants stood at the pinnacle of this ecosystem.
The first was the Harahashan, nomadic hordes of lizard-like men that lived in the desserts.
The second species were the fungoid Mulge who lived in the deep recesses of the earth.
Meanwhile, the humanity who had fled to the stars encountered the Qlov, an implacable insect-like species.
Humanity retreated to the “Barren Earth” to build starship bases.
The war passed Earth by, and the garrisons of human left behind fell into barbarism.
Two thousand years later, the Earth battles the Qlov again.
The human empire dispatched an expedition to reactivate the old star bases on Earth.
The ship was attacked by the Qlov and only one human survivor reached the surface of the “Barren Earth” – Jinal ne Comarr.
Jinal assembled a multi-racial band to unite the warring tribes of the planet.
It is not known if she succeeded in her quest or if the anticipated Qlov invasion happened.
This entry is more of a setting than a character. As far as I know, the “Barren Earth” hasn’t been seen since the 1980s. It’s a setting that any of the DC time travellers – Booster Gold, Rip Hunter, ect – could encounter in one of their journeys through time.
Bat Lash by Dave Gibbons
Bartholomew Aloysious Lash was raised to be tough by his farmer father but cultured by his educated mother.
When his parents were swindled out of their farms, Bart sought justice as he had been taught.
Forced to kill a crooked deputy, he was branded a murderer.
Bart discovered his parents and the woman he loved had been killed while his home burned down in flames.
Bart left his sister and his girlfriend, Betsy, at a convent for protection.
Bart took to the road, pursuing vengeance.
Cue lots of “Wild West” adventures while pursuing his parents’ killer.
Bat Lash, along with Jonah Hex, Tomahawk, Scalphunter, Cinnamon, etc was one of DC’s Western heroes. He still makes occasional appearances and I seem to remember that Bat Lash had a miniseries in the 2010s.

Delinquent World or How The Life of A Delinquent Is Never Easy To Keep A Secret
A little crossover story with my OC, Kate, and a few other characters from other fandoms.
(Note: This is based on delinquent mangas and animes I used to watch and experience, also shout out to the River City Girls franchise. Please enjoy!💪)
Tumblr media
Story:
Kate is the student council president of Helix High, a school for it's Japanese origins and history with Delinquents. Delinquents are high school students with special abilities, known as Chikara or 'power' in Japanese. Kate is one of those Delinquents, known as the 'Demon Queen', but she needs to keep a low profile in order to keep some peace in her life. However, that peace was soon interrupted by other Delinquents and this really pissed her off. So, how is she going to stop this? By defeating every single Delinquent with the help of allies and friends. It's time to get out of class and start a fight, let's rumble!
(Note: Helix High often have different uniforms due to color of choice, based on personality or other. Delinquents also have costumes, some of them, depends on their Chikara)

Kate is both kind and honest, her beauty and serious expression make her the 'idle girlfriend', despite that she is quite short tempered and often scold any student who tries to break rules. When her best friend was in trouble, she was always there in the nick of time to assist her, like the speed of a cheetah. Her Chikara is 'Fox', which gives the user the power of strength and illusions, Lila's weapon of choice is a magic flute that creates illusions.

In honor of the New Year and as of right now, three people who have voted (3 for Yuki, and 1 for Emi and Joan), I’m letting you guys see character designs more in style for their respective shows with some more information! Remember, questions are encouraged and you can vote multiple people if your interest isn’t cleanly split!
Tumblr media
Yuki is actually half Russian on her mother’s side! She’s also completely fluent Japanese, English, and Russian!
Her quirk is called Winter’s Aria, which has a base form of mutation but can branch out into an emitter and transformation type. In short, her internal body is nearly completely frozen, maintaining a temperature range between 27-29 Fahrenheit or -2.7 to -1.6, which is the mutation part. She has a health usage license to maintain her body temperature so long as she does not damage or injure people or property using the emitter properties of her quirk. The emitter part allows her to control the atmosphere and ice in various forms, in action this allows her to create ice and control these elements so long as they maintain a cold temperature. She cannot control water unless it approaches freezing or below. Her control can be strengthened when she sings, which she rarely does with an audience due to social anxiety, but can accomplish great feats. Such as creating a polar vortex, but it would require a great amount of vocal and emotional power to do so. Transformation turns her whole body to ice and lowers the ambient temperature as a matter of course.
Her quirk is a combination of her parents and their grandparents.
Mother: Frozen Heart (nearly identical to Yuki but somewhat weaker and without the musical part).
Her father: Winter’s Heart (his internal organs are frozen and he exudes a cold temperature uncontrollably but can control and create ice directly from his body)
Her mother: Seasonal Change (she can control the atmosphere around her in a limited function, usually generating winds or altering the clouds, which allows her to instinctively know the exact atmospheric weathers)
Father: Musicality (The ability to create a musical in his environment through song, often with unintended consequences)
His Mother: Perfect pitch (Exactly as it sounds, she can sing perfectly any note within reasonable human range)
His Father: Musical Theatre (He can compel his environment to become a musically inclined environment, though not always guaranteeing that people sing)
Tumblr media
Emi!
This is her first wanted poster for the crime of stealing an emerald from a jeweler’s workshop that was owned by a Celestial Dragon to be set into a new necklace, hence the high price. But she absolutely insists that it wasn’t theft since the emerald wasn’t the Celestial Dragon’s in the first place. And yes, I am avoiding drawing their full bodies for the time being in the One Piece art style until later!
As a fun fact, she doesn’t actually know her name, so she simply shortened her name from “Emerald”. And as a bonus, she can create either two fans or an umbrella for combat and defense. The fans can create blades of energy and the umbrella can fire either a beam or shots of energy. I repeat, this isn’t a crossover with Steven Universe, but it is inspired by the ideas in that story. An astute reader will know why Emi is firm in her belief that she didn’t steal the emerald, but is very insistent on not showing her features unless absolutely necessary. No one knew she was sentient before this point and it’s not due to a devil fruit, either. She’s curious and enjoys fixing things, usually after taking them apart.
Tumblr media
Joan!
This is her first bounty poster as well! You’ll notice that this poster has her name wrong! That’s because the marines mistakenly thought her name was ‘John’ and took her height and pre-teen frame as an indication she was male. The ‘Spade’ was added since ‘John’ is a very common name in the hopes of setting her apart from other wanted pirates who happened to be named John. The Spades did not take this well, though Joan thought it was humorous, so they took to loudly calling her ‘Little Queen’ to fit the card theme of the ship and crew. This exact picture was taken when she was pushing a barrel onto the ship. The bounty is exceptionally low for the Grand Line and the Spade crew at the time, because her position on the crew was unknown and she hadn’t been seen fighting in any capacity. Her position in fact being assistant cook where she helped prep and cooked herself from time to time, a necessity for a crew with a prolific eater like Ace on board. She also stuck close to Ace to prevent him from falling overboard or into his food when he has a narcolepsy attack, being one of the few who can manage not to be stabbed when reaching near his food. She does not willingly fight, but she does know some self defense from both her father and official classes at the private school she used to go to.
Her talents lie in the field of cooking and knifework with a soft spot for food sculptures and desserts. She is also quite intelligent and skipped grades in part because of her prolific height (as she otherwise would have stuck out in her classes to the detriment of her social life, which suffered anyway because of her height and appearance). She doesn’t have a devil fruit, but her curse personifies emotion into objects or physical transformations, of which her current one is a combination of hunger and fear.
As a New Years bonus, here’s the pictures I mentioned previously in the style of their respective shows! Mostly, I haven’t gotten one for Calypso yet since she’s not a wanted criminal, if ever. But I will have a fun fact for her at the end!
Tumblr media
Originally, Halia was going to be called Joan too! But I decided two characters with the same name was a bit confusing and went with a Hawaiian name meaning “in remembrance of a loved one” after her late father, who died before she was born. Her step-father does not like her mixed heritage and her mother agreed to refer to her as “Hailey” on most cases so she wouldn’t stick out too much as a child in Galar, which only mostly worked.
Tumblr media
Isabella looking appropriately classy and, as a fun fact, I didn’t realize how simple Ouran’s style was when I started this picture. Everything looks like it’s cotton and there’s hardly any jewelry to be seen, which is probably as a limitation of the mangaka and also because it’s from the POV of Haruhi, who doesn’t care about such things. So I literally didn’t have any easy to find references for silk, gold, or gemstones.
And Isabella is actually childhood friends with Haruhi, as her godfather was a work friend with Haruhi’s mother before she passed who kept in contact with Ranka because of Haruhi and Isabella’s friendship. Isabella acts like an annoying older sister to Haruhi who is ready to spoil her, if only Haruhi didn’t object literally every time she tries. This includes wiping away her debt to the host club, which Haruhi feels honor-bound to fulfill despite the dubious circumstances, so yes, the plot will still happen.
And for Calpyso! She actually does have a devil fruit! The Lonely-Lonely devil fruit, which in essence, can make her unnoticeable. It’s considered cursed since most fail to control the fruit and die from natural circumstances, usually starvation or illness from going completely unnoticed by anyone. Like, one got stranded on an island with no food sources and another was accidentally shot and only had their body discovered after the fact. It renders the user a ghost of their world, earning her the name “Ghost of Paradise Lost” on her file in the Marines, and when utilized to the full effect, lets her walk through objects. With careful control and physical contact, she can bring others with her into this state, but they must not draw attention to themselves (talking loudly or touching other people) as the effect is lessened to a sort of mild ‘notice-me-not’ type of deal. But they can’t be taken with her to pass through physical objects or disappear completely like she can herself. She enjoys scaring people with her fruit powers and wears sea stone earrings when needed to ensure she remains mostly noticed in conversations or meetings, particularly if those involved have trigger fingers. She also carries a truly prolific amount of knives. Just in case.
Vote here!

Stupid little concept doodles of an Ace Combat/Transformers crossover AU!
The Erusian Navy Alicorn as a submarine bot, which doesn’t really make sense since robots and salty water don’t really get along, but maybe that’s why he went insane!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Giving robots hairlike features is my cringe trait and I am embracing it. I think they look cool.
This is not his final design. I forgot to bring my refs for a more finalised design with me today when I drew him, this is just the best my memory will allow.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore review
I love a good crossover, even if they’re often limited to fighting games and online events. It’s exciting to see developers being fans of each other and working together to interpret and merge each other’s stuff, culminating in an enthusiastic collaboration across the industry. With this in mind, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, a crossover between the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei series, sounds like a pretty fantastic idea.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore review
Developer: Atlus
Publisher: Nintendo
Platform: Switch
Availability Out January 17th on Switch
It focuses on the friends Aoi Itsuki and Tsubasa Oribe. Ever since Tsubasa’s sister Ayaha disappeared during a concert five years prior, the timid girl wants to become a singer to continue her sibling’s legacy as an entertainer. During her very first audition, Tsubasa is attacked by mirages, demons who are after the natural artistic ability within humans. To fight back, Tsubasa and Itsuki gain the power of Chrom and Caeda from the Fire Emblem series, who help them change into magical “carnage forms”. Unfortunately their new friends have lost all memory of who they are and where they’re from. The only thing that’s clear is that mirages regularly attack entertainers, so what better way than to join an entertainment agency to keep an eye on these occurrences?
It’s not the smoothest integration of a theme into its setting, but the entertainment industry gives Tokyo Mirage Sessions its own identity beyond being a crossover, in ways both good and bad. Let’s start with the good: Tsubasa and friends are training to become idols, Japanese all-around entertainers, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions makes great effort to showcase different facets of the job. Each chapter is dedicated to another aspect, whether that’s being a model, an actor or a show host. Chapters also often culminate in short anime music videos of your characters performing a new song. The round-based battles take place on a stage, a mass of adoring fans following your performance from the stands. Your characters whirl around acrobatically, draw their signatures in the air for every spell and cheer for each other. Each hero is wearing elaborate costumes that spell love for magical girl and boy design. If you complete side quests for the members of your party, they gain special attacks reminiscent of their signature performances. Each win is celebrated with applause and an amount of confetti I haven’t seen since Ace Attorney.
Without this stylish veneer however, combat is a familiar affair. Similar to the Persona games, themselves a sub-series of Shin Megami Tensei, offence is the best defence, and you have the best chances of winning if your opponent doesn’t even get the drop on you. If you can exploit an enemy’s weakness, for example by attacking them with a specific weapon or spell, you start a Session. If they have the right skill equipped, during a Session your other team members get to chain an attack immediately to yours, more often than not leading to a monster’s immediate demise. Battles are vibrant to watch without dragging on, and I loved every unnecessarily bombastic transformation and attack. If they still run too long for you, the Encore version now allows you to enable quick sessions and skip special attack sequences with the press of a button.
Combat is energetic, fun to watch and generally over quickly, though randomly appearing savage enemies sharply raise difficulty.
I also liked the dungeons. While the first one is pretty drab, the subsequent ones follow the style of the different chapters and each come with a different gameplay element. In one dungeon depicting a TV show set, for example, you run errands for a demonic production supervisor.
So far so good, but while I enjoyed Tokyo Mirage Sessions at first, as a crossover it’s decidedly weak. It retains the modern Tokyo setting from Shin Megami Tensei, but there isn’t much to do. Some characters, like Tsubasa, are really likable, others fall flat because they often only talk to you instead of each other, so don’t expect too much depth in the social element. During main quests, dungeons are pretty large, as typical for an Atlus game, but each features only one unique gameplay element, so after a while you will have done the same thing for hours, whether that’s solving switch puzzles or navigating changing floor layouts. To fully heal your party and unlock new skills, you have to visit your agency, so while you gain the ability to warp there early on, you still have to traipse back every time, a far cry from just having the entrance to the Velvet Room at the beginning of each dungeon.
It takes more than half of the game for Tokyo Mirage Sessions to remember that the #FE in its title stands for Fire Emblem. Generally, the Fire Emblem influence remains incredibly easy to ignore, certainly due to the Fire Emblem developer Intelligent Systems hardly having had a hand in either design or development. That makes Tokyo Mirage Sessions approachable for people who are unfamiliar with either series, but it seems odd to market something as a big crossover of two beloved properties and then skimp on the crossover elements.
Your friends are eager for your good opinion, but they’re not as fleshed out as other SMT protagonists.
With this in mind I wanted to judge Tokyo Mirage Sessions purely on its merit as a magical idol RPG, which raises a few difficult points. The whole idol industry has been a pretty niche interest in the West, until Korean idols such as BTS turned into international sensations. The idea of magical girl idols, who sing and dance by day and transform into fighters for justice by night, was devised with young girls in mind, right until the moment someone realised that there’s a lot of money in sexualising this concept. That’s where Tokyo Mirage Sessions comes in, because it’s not a game made for a target audience of young girls, but what quickly turned out to be the new number one customer of the idol industry – guys who like their girls to be what we consider barely legal, or let’s be honest, not at all. The idol industry sells itself in the perceived innocence of its performers. While several local different local laws apply, the age of consent in Japan is 13, which is why what we consider the sexualisation of minors is in fact perfectly legal, if still questionable and a very convenient loophole to sell idols not to hormonal teenagers, but adult men, whose gaze is the predominant focus of the game (as it is for most of the video game industry).
Protagonist Itsuki was purposefully designed as an everyman, an unassuming dude in argyle sweaters who is enough of a blank page that through him, players can live the fantasy having an idol all for themselves. “What do you think of my outfit?” Tsubasa will ask him, “How about this pose?” “Uwwah, help me, I’m so embarrassed to show myself to others like this, but doing this for you feels natural!” There’s a side quest in which Itsuki teaches his friend Touma “nanpa”, picking up women on the street. Just like any sort of pick-up artistry, nanpa is rarely associated with someone bumbling “Hey, come here often” and more with rape at worst and sleaziness at best. Yet, Tokyo Mirage Sessions makes Itsuki into a napa master, the hero popular with all the ladies, and only after the fact does someone ask if picking up women is really the best way to become a successful entertainer.
Of course a lot of Japanese content uses fanservice, but Tokyo Mirage Sessions is made uncomfortable by the reality of the industry it portrays. The idol industry is real, and directly responsible for the expectations fans have of how women should look and behave. In order to seem available, idols are barred from dating, leading to incidents such as obsessive fans threatening them for being seen with male idols in TV shows or private outings. Minami Minegishi, members of Japan’s largest girl idol group AKB48, once shaved her head as penance for dating. In 2016 Tatsuya Yamaguchi, bassist of hyper-popular idol band TOKIO, admitted to having tried to kiss an underage girl he frequently invited home with him – he’d promised to make her a famous idol. Just last year, an executive at an idol agency was convicted of several cases of grooming. Several idols were convicted of drug possession, in Japan a career-ending event, and most idols admitted that without stimulants they couldn’t keep up with their extraordinary workload. There’s a large cost in upholding the fantasy of the idol, especially for young girls.
Side stories and some good old grinding in special dungeons meant to help you earn experience points help you quickly unlock skills and new special attacks.
Nintendo released a cut for Western territories. Changes include raising almost all character’s ages to the age of consent in most countries, deleting panty shots and the revision of overly revealing costumes. Additionally a quest focusing on gravure modeling, a term for idols suggestively modeling in swimwear and underwear, was completely reworked to focus on fashion modeling instead. In an interview with Game Informer prior to the game’s original Wii U release, representatives from Nintendo America stated that “It was a priority to ensure the game feels familiar and appeals to longtime Atlus fans. Any changes made to the in-game content were due to varying requirements and regulations in the many different territories Nintendo distributes its products.”
While the Encore version also adds DLC content such as costumes, a new song and the albeit limited opportunity to have support characters further help out in battle, this Switch version is otherwise based on this altered version. I find the changes easy enough to ignore and I think anyone who gets incensed about less exposed skin on their anime girls should perhaps take a healthy walk around the block, Tokyo Mirage Sessions is still plenty sexual. Elements from boob jiggling to introducing characters cleavage first to many costumes that remain as revealing as ever can still be found.
If you want to truly learn more about the idol industry, here you’ll hear mostly platitudes, and beyond that all elements from characters to combat stay rather simple. As it stands, Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a stylish game with a unique theme that’s as often questionable as it is cute, but it doesn’t reach the depth of either of its crossover franchises to leave a lasting impression.

Now with that out of the way, should I keep Y13 as a human? Struggling to think of a cybertronian design for him and I think it’d be funny

Concept art for Archange(l), Mihaly A. Shilage in Aces of Cybertron! His altmode is his final battle X-02 Strike Wyvern.
In the AU, he acts as Trigger’s friend and kind-of mentor (aka what I wanted out of AC7 to begin with). Fun fact: his wings can move 360 degrees because I also want to draw him with more Angel-looking ones.
