So how *does* one get a certain sheriff to trust them?

Ooooh good question Nonny!!
And in which context; do you you mean in general or romantically?
Actually…they both kinda need similar approaches.
• Really. Be patient. It might feel like pulling teeth. He’s not the best communicator ever. It would take him so dang long to. He’d be watching you close and double checking that you aren’t about to backstab him or go against his ideas. If you worked together he’d probably butt heads with you if you took a lot of initiative without going to him first- even if they are logical and good ideas . It’s his paranoia and history of being let down and betrayed that’s made him this way.
• He will subtly test you to make sure you are genuine in whatever kind of relationship you have. That you aren’t just using him. For example he might ask you things in an attempt to trip you up. Observing closely and looking for cracks in what you say or how you look when you say it. He can’t ever turn off his cop brain.
•Will observe closely how you treat others versus him, and draw lots of comparisons.
•He’ll warm to you gradually if you’ve managed not to hurt him, but also if you’ve not taken his demeanor the wrong way. He knows he can be stand off ish, he knows he can be rude. But…if you’re still sticking around then maybe you can tell he isn’t all bad. You’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt?! That’s sure to be meaningful to him.
•If you do nice things for him he may feel conflicted, maybe even be weird about it the first few times. He’ll look for a nefarious motive behind you giving him something or running errands for him without asking. When there never seems to be a catch however…he will work himself up into a guilty frenzy. Then he will have to accept you are genuine in your efforts.
Further romantic context
• He would need even further coaxing to believe you are interested in him for the right reasons. As much as he loves the roles mentioned in his romance paperbacks; he won’t like it if you’re just into his uniform or family title. He’s an old fashioned softy that will never admit he wants to be called handsome and fussed over a little.
•Don’t let him feel like he’s being made fun of. No really. Laugh at the wrong time for example, even by accident- he’ll take it to heart and lay awake thinking about it later. His ego bruises so easily. He’ll withdraw from you if you hurt his self esteem.
• Let him feel like he’s taking the lead a little (even if he isn’t). It will feed his self esteem a bit. He’ll feel like he’s being proactive and gentlemanly if you plant an idea in his head by hinting you are free on Saturday afternoon or really like chrysanthemums. He might miss the first few hints, but if he’s more comfy with you (after the points in general), he will have to take action.
•weirdly enough, needing him will feed his trust. Obviously not in a demanding way, but he will like that he can help you. Travis has built himself up on how dependable he has to be. If you refuse his help too many times that will also bruise his ego.

Viv ran a finger over Blackblood’s new incarnation, cut down to an icon of her former self. Then, she just stared at it.
“Do you… like it?” asked Tandri. “If you don’t, we can unmount—”
“It’s perfect,” said Viv.
Been anxiously debating whether or not to comment on this, but given how much worse things have gotten, I can’t ignore it anymore. As a Palestinian Critter who’s already been disappointed by Ashley, Mica (who posted support for Israel in her stories), Aimee (shared stories on neutrality but focused mainly on the Jewish side only), and Sam’s wife (shared neutrality for peace in her stories) I can’t help but wonder if showing the Empire State Building lit up in my people’s oppressors’ colors on the last slide is deliberate. I hope not.
I know they don’t wanna hurt their brand, which is why they haven’t directly said anything about any of this, but if I’ve learned anything since the 7th, it’s that you don’t really know the people you looked up to.
These guys play characters who stand up against oppression, for crying out loud. I don’t know how to feel. I don’t wanna say goodbye to these nerdy-ass voice actors, but I will if I have to.
Please prove to me that I don’t have to. 🇵🇸💔
EDIT (DISCLAIMER): I am NOT in any way trying to make anyone not watch/support CR! I’ve personally decided to take a break from stop watching it, but that doesn’t mean you have to! I was simply trying to find some comfort from the community during this stressful time. Much love!
EDIT 2: I’ve gotten what I needed from this post. I hope y’all read my responses in case of any misunderstandings. ALSO. DO NOT USE THIS POST TO ATTACK ANYONE—not other Critters, and ESPECIALLY not anyone affiliated with CR!! We’re better than that! Thank you to those who reached out and for your support! Bidet!! ❤️❤️❤️
You know how Hermes is a psychopomp (guides dead souls to the Underworld) as one of his jobs? Hc that his kids (or some of them) inherit something like this ability. Maybe they can feel it when people die or they can see dead spirits or something like that. Point is, they have a connection with the departure of a soul from the land of the living and its transfer to that of the dead.
