Since I'm already cranky tonight I'll mention that attempts to solve disabled poverty by "increasing workplace engagement" drive me up the fucking wall.
It definitely needs to be done, working with employers to increase their openness to disabled employees and making reasonable accommodations. It definitely needs to be done, enabling disabled people to be entrepreneurs who make money off the work they can do.
But it's like how half getting your pocket picked is the misdirection that diverts your attention while somebody steals your wallet. Another word for "increasing workplace engagement" is "decreasing reliance on government benefits."
Oh, government benefits—which are frequently only given out to people who cannot work—are so stingy they basically doom people to poverty?
I guess you'd better work harder, then. Bitch.

Replaying Crimes 1 and losing my mind at Trystan just never being recognised ever, not even by the art collector dude in chapter 2, not even by the actual cops even after they're splashed across like a billion tabloids.
Could be a PB goof. Could be an actual thing y'know.. cuz Trystan just gives me "Jennifer Lawrence in that one on-street interview clip where she's asking people to name five movies that she starred in, the people not knowing her even if she's right next to them" vibes and im here for it.
(I can imagine the day they do get really popular after Tony Kowalski's arrest. Nora would probably introduce them to people like "this dude? a famous royalty? Nah, this is just some stranger I picked up on the street. Say hi stranger.")

Don't fail to try, or you'll fail for sure! 💪
Failure is a part of life, but it's not the end of the world. It's simply an opportunity to learn and grow. The real failure is when we give up before we even try.
When we fail to try, we're denying ourselves the chance to succeed. We're also missing out on all the valuable lessons that we can learn from failure.
So don't be afraid to try new things and step outside of your comfort zone. Even if you fail, you'll be better off for it.

Hailey Upton + The Hockey AU requested by anonymous
warnings: implied alcoholism and domestic violence
After spending so much of her childhood in and out of the kitchen, both at home and at the family’s restaurant, Hailey knew there weren’t many options for her future. Even if she excelled in school, and got into a good college, and applied herself to every dream that crossed her mind, there was only one endgame. She was going to end up in the kitchen at the counter every single night forever. She was going to clear tables and wash dishes for the rest of her life. And that had always seemed fine, when she was a little kid.
She liked getting to run around and see where the adults worked when she was five, and seven, and even ten years old. But she got older, and she saw more, and she understood more. She could see that her parents were stressed about money, even with the help of herself and her brothers at the restaurant every night. She started to understand that the alcohol came with the stress, and so did the yelling, among other things. She knew that there were certain facts of life that she couldn’t avoid, no matter how badly she wanted to. Unless she changed the course her life was on.
It was when she started high school that she tried to do that.
Hailey took introductory business classes for all of her electives in her freshman year. She spent free hours at night pouring over articles and text books she got at the school library, studying numbers and business practices all over the country. Once she had all the information she needed, and summer had started and she didn’t have homework to focus on, she put together her idea.
There was a small arena with a growing base audience - the Mice used to be the worst team in their league, but their record was starting to improve, which meant more people were in the seats with each game. There were multiple spaces that were intended for food vendors within the walls, with low rent payments while attendance was still down. I was an opportunity, and she wanted to jump on it, or at least convince her father to. But it was hard when there wasn’t much money to spare for what the restaurant needed, let alone another location.
Still, they made a deal - she had the summer to find a space, put together a condensed version of the menu, food that could be taken and eaten in a sport setting, and find the staff it would take to run it. If she could do that, she had the rest of the year to prove that her little venture could succeed - four months to test herself, three of them during the hockey season that would bring in most of her prospective revenue. Even at fifteen, she knew an unreasonable challenge when she heard it, but that didn’t stop her.
She chose the unit in the arena herself, and put together a menu to hang above the order window, and even got to review the applications for the hiring process before the decisions were made. She was being set up to fail, and that only made her want to try harder, fight for the success she craved. The only part of it that was actually easy was that she had four brothers who were willing to step up and run the necessary preparation process when she had to go back to school. She only had to be there for game nights and weekend practices, and it only took a month of being up and running for her to fall in love with it.
And, when the season started up and their customer base grew, the failure that she was set up for never came at all.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Jot down my strengths and weaknesses, ok, no problem…. commence crickets chirping.
With all kidding aside, I know I have some great strengths and some not-so-great weaknesses, so what are they?
Some of my strengths could be noted as my ability for conversation or small talk, encouragement of others, finding common ground and quick thinking. I work in an elementary school with young children, I also coach my local U5 division hockey team. These roles allow me to use my strengths to successfully complete and enjoy my job each day. I find joy in relating to and understanding the needs of children, while helping them navigate their interests, impulses, and behaviors. It is important to always support children in ways that develop and maintain a sense of wellbeing, belonging, engagement and expression, to ensure their optimal development. Having an ability to think quickly and offer options and solutions to children in their time of need or hesitation makes for a more supported and positive outcome. My strengths have allowed me to experience and develop a love for working with children and families.
Now my weaknesses, self-doubt, anything financial, over-analyzing and fear of failure are all weaknesses that jump out to me almost immediately. I know that my weaknesses slow me down, and there are times where plans, ideas and experiences work out just fine and I see the downfall of me letting these weaknesses creep in and slow me down or stop me completely, but I continue to go to back to them for some reason. I have a great support system in my life, and I even have a husband who is an entrepreneur himself, so I think I need to lean into my supports and take more chances. This approach could allow me to try harder to believe in myself whether I fail or not and to also not be afraid of taking more chances. An easy fix for my lack of financial skills would be maybe looking into a bookkeeping course or even reading some literature to open my thoughts and understanding of financials and how to start being more aware of that aspect of my life.
Reflection isn’t an easy task, but it is a pretty eye opening and in some ways gratifying. Seeing your weakness and admitting to them is hard but it also provides us with a chance to face them head on and make a change for growth. Also acknowledging your strengths can really boost that image of yourself and give you that pat on the back you might not always remember to give yourself.

Merry Crisis
family trauma t/w
"You've got such a high IQ, you're so smart, you could do so much if you weren't playing games all day" I knew calling my grandmother was a mistake. Always like this. "Stop playing video games, start putting yourself out there, you're wasting your natural talent." If it's not a bad report card it's me not living up to expectations. God forbid you be proud of me for being me. And God forbid I do something that makes me happy.
Also stop bringing up my fucking boyfriend. I understand that you need to be disappointed in more than my own "shortcomings" but you have no right in nitpicking things for you to be disappointed in my partner for.
No wonder you don't know anything about me. No wonder none of my family knows anything about me. The last thing I want to think about are any of you.

The only book on that horrible red flag book end cap that makes sense is the robert greene one because he is horrible. He has like a seduction one as well and they’re all about like manipulating and dominating other people to get what you want. The only people that buy them are like dipshit bros who think they’re entrepreneurs. They also used to get stolen at my bookstore constantly lmao
skdjskdksn the sheer number of men who have come in the library looking for it LOL
