A note for the fellow strugglers in TS1

Hey, it's Seth! I know how frustrating TS1 can be (considering it's age and being the first game in the franchise), so I am here to introduce a list of personal must have mods and programs, which I always use whenever I re-install the game to make it more user-friendly. The list itself is quite short, actually, since it only consists of my personal gameplay choice mods. So there's no building objects, deco, skins and heads there.

MODS AND CC

This calendar will report the day of the month to your sims and -- and this is amazing -- even introduce a concept of days off. Sims should have about every 6th and 7th day off. - THE ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE. It's in the painting section and costs 15 simoleons. Works a bit wonky with children, but otherwise a very useful mod to have.

Call work/give interview job phone plugins to give your sim a day off. - I use those mostly when sims have to take care of the baby.

A family mod by Gothi_family_4ever. - another must have in my collection, introduces the familial relationships in game! No more inappropriate relationships between relatives. It's a 0 simoleon painting, which you can delete once you've done.

A hacked frigde mod by the same author. - allows your sims to put their food into the refrigirator, call the household members for the meal, and requires the usage of products (like meat and in-game vegetables) in order to cook a dish instead of insta-paying. You kinda have to build a grocery shop for your sims, so they could buy the required products, I prefer to install the stalls into the pre-existing farm shop in Old Town area. P.S DON'T FORGET TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE INSTALLING BEFORE DRAGGING ANY FILE. As much as I love this mod, I don't, for example, use their cereal add-on.

The Elixir ExpressiBuy Computer. - a computer that allows you to buy any in-game buyable product (like vacation gifts, grocery, tonics, etc etc) in stock. They won't magically appear overnight but would be brought by a special courier npc. It also allows your sim to research logic, creativity, culinary and mechanical skills. I'd also recommend diving further into their site, since they have a lot of cool and unique gameplay content as well!

MagiCo's Bookshelf of Dimensional Storage - the official Maxis item, that was in the 'Get Cool Stuff' section. Allows your sims to keep their magic coins and ingrediends in special bookshelf storage, I mostly use it so the kids could get the ingredients for their spells from the adults. It is in the Magic section, btw

The Magic Mirror - the only outright cheat object that I have in my possesion. This mirror refreshes your sims needs, builds skills, friends, stardom, etc. Saves headaches when you are not in the mood to fullfill your sims' mood, ha-ha.

PROGRAMS

SimEnchancer 3D - basically a program that allows you to change the basic sim's attributes, including their heads and bodytypes. If you are familiar with TS2's SimPE, you'd have the idea how it works. NOTE: if you have to run your TS1 game as an administrator, you'd have to open it up in the same vein as well. And don't forget to backup your UserData files when you are working with it, just in case!

The Sims Creator - the official Maxis program for players to create some basic skins content. The program is only suitable to work with head and skins textures and not the meshes! Likewise, if you have to open the game as an administrator, you'd have to do the same with that program.

NEIGHBORHOODS

This section for the fellow premade enjoyers out there, who mostly played TS2 before and decided to give the local premades a chance as well

Here you can download the original UserData 1 and 2 if you want to reset your neigborhoods as they were if you had already played the neighborhood before and want to start anew. The Sims Wiki also gives you an instruction for how to do so.

And here you can download the additional Maxis families like The Hatfield, The Maximus, The Mashuga, The Snooty, The Jones and that weird agent White House familes. For some reasons, some of them refused to function in my game, so I had to install the empty houses and recreate them by hand, using the SimEnchancer and Wikia to give them appropriate skills and careers.

OTHER

Sims 1 Alternative UI - refreshes your game by a margin. I really recomend this one!

it's october now and a lot of creatives are preparing wonderful presents, which made me want to somehow contribute as well. sadly i still have no access to ts2, but what i do have right now is my favorite little game in the entire world that i have been neglecting for years, ts1. so i thought: what could i make for you guys that would be fresh, interesting, and within my capabilities?

well, what about some alien recolors?

i am hoping to turn this into a project so if i don't lose motivation, this is gonna be part 1 of me recoloring stuff to make it supernatural! right now, i present to you:

♫ Strange Night - AF alien set

☆ 6 heads and 6 bodies alienified (skin + eyes changed to ts2 alien genetics) ☆ 2 outfits for each body type: a casual style + more formal ☆ 3-4 recolors of each body and head ☆ found in everyday, light skin category ☆ install by dropping them inside your GameData/Skins folder (details in the readme file) ☆ if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Note: i tried to find a better way to attach alien hands to these bodies but they only worked as long as every recolor had a corresponding hand file, which means your game files are probably gonna turn into a hand collection soon if you decide to download this. sorry! if anyone knows of a better way to do this, please let me know!

Mirror Door with lock

I made a mirror door that Sims can walk through. The door doesn't open. It's just like a magic mirror door. I changed the graphics from Simlogical Hospital Door with lock.

Actually, I want to make a secret bookshelf door, just like in TS2-4, but I'm not good at computer graphics. So…this is the only thing I can make, and this is the reason why the mirror door doesn't open.

Das heutige Update bringt euch und euren Sims eine Auswahl an Tapeten, für eure magischen Sims oder jene die Sternenhimmel (Sternenhimmel oh oh ) und/oder Einhörner mögen. Für die Maxis Matching Liebhaber habe ich auf die grauen Holztexturen aus Hokus Pokus ( In die war ich damals sofort verliebt) und dem Grundspiel zurück gegriffen ( Wer errät welche Textur aus dem Grunddpiel stammt, bekommt einen Keks). Da der Export trotz Vintage PC nicht funktionierte, griff ich auf die Texturen vom simthings Konversionen zurück. Die zauberhafte Einhorntextur stammt von Kate Rose, die diese Textur händisch Digital (Also ohne KI) erstellt hat.

Unicorn Escalation

Today's update brings you and your Sims a selection of wallpapers for your magical Sims or those who like starry skies and/or unicorns. For the Maxis Matching lovers I used the grey wood textures from Makin' Magic (I fell in love with them immediately) and the base game (whoever guesses which texture is from the base game gets a biscuit). Since the export didn't work despite the vintage PC, I used the textures from the simthings conversions. The magical unicorn texture comes from Kate Rose, who created this texture digitally by hand (i.e. without AI).

UTILITIES AND PROGRAMS FOR TS1

Basically a continuation to my important TS1 mod compilation which makes the game a bit more user-friendly and easier without the feeling of outright cheating. This time I want to focus on the useful programs for this game, what do they do and how you can use them.

I had already talked about SimEnchancer 3D and The Sim Creator in that previous post, so they wouldn't be on this list.

The list itself is aimed for the casual players (and not the CC-makers), so there wouldn't be programs such as Homecrafter, IFF-pencil, Transmogrifier, FarOut and other editing programs needed for the CC-creation. Most of them are needed for the slight neighborhood editing, CC-organizing and detecting bad CC-files (+SimPose, yes).

EliSims - an executable that you need to install before using. It allows you to create additonal UserData folders if you feel that the 8 established hoods are not enough for you. It basically clones any UserData folder and renames it according to the next number on the list, so you should clone from the UserData folders which were not activated prior. It also allows you to add the custom content and music but I didn't test those features out.

EliSims and Nbhood 9 which I created with it.

SimOrganizer - a powerful, fan-made Buy Mode Catalog editing tool for The Sims 1. Allows you to view the objects from the Buy Mode and edit their catalog placement, price, description and name however you want. I use it sometimes cause a lot of cc-makers tend to overclutter the Miscellanious-Other function category. Makes searching CC in game much easier.

Skin Doctor - a handy file manager for your skin files, helps you to get rid of the bad cc-skins and allows you take any in-game skin to edit or to use in the SimPose.

Lot Manager - allows you to copy your lot into the other neighborhood. I would recommend to do the backup of your UserData folders before you interact with his program.

Sims File Cop - a program for detecting broken mods, objects, and skins in The Sims 1. Helps you in case if you can't detect the exact cc file which causes your game to crash

Petition: Dedicated TS1 download section on MTS.

With the release of the Legacy collection, the original The Sims game has seen a resurgence in its modding scene. While much of the modding community is currently located in places like Tumblr or specialized sites such as Simblr.cc, most sites don't have the sort of infrastructure, history, or community that MTS does. 

While other sites such as TSR had a section for The Sims, they've recently locked them and prohibited new submissions. Additionally, TSR has a history of being driven primarily by profit while MTS is almost entirely driven my fans. It seems wrong that one of the oldest, and most established, Custom Content aggregate sites doesn't have it's own dedicated section for The Sims as so much of the games' original custom content from the 2000s disappears. 

MTS having its own section would make it one of the only custom content aggregate sites to have a functioning download section for the original game.

Hi there! I am making a custom neighborhood for The Sims 1! It's far from finished, but here is what I call version 0.1.

Note: This project is made purely out of fun. The next update (adding new families and lots) may come in three weeks or three years or not at all. Still, let me know if you run into any problems!

I created this neighborhood with The Sims Complete Collection, but you might be okay if you simply have all expansions installed.

(Optional) Hungry Hungry Hamster Game -- Official Maxis object! I basically used it just to fill another space on the carnival lot. I also recommend getting the other official objects from that site, but your game might already have most of them. (Mine did, at least. If you notice missing objects in Dandyville, it's likely one of these!)

(Optional) Livin' Large Extreme Character Pack -- A set of skins that were given out as a preorder bonus for The Sims: Livin' Large! I only used some of these for the occasional townie and I suspect if you don't have these the game will just use a random skin.

(Optional) No Buskers Sign -- The ONLY piece of unofficial custom content I used! I use this on community lots where the old town busker feels unfitting and where he might trap your Sim by standing in the way of the only exit. Currently only used on the Aquamarine Quarter lot.

Install Instructions

Go to your The Sims folder (default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims). You may need admin rights for the next steps!

Inside you will see a folder called "UserData8". Rename that folder to something like "UserData8backup".

Open Dandyville v0.1.zip and copy "UserData8" from the .zip-file into your The Sims folder.

Open the game and switch to Neighborhood 8. You did it!

What is my Uberhood Project?

I am planning on making an uberhood project that connects (and corrects*) all of the lore of the sims 1, 2, 3, and 4 into one downloadable neighborhood save (for the sims 2!!)

What does that actually mean?

I want all of the families to have accurate and realistic (within reason), memories, friends, enemies, family heirlooms, and town relics.

In order to do this, I am going to be completely recreating all the families and their family trees and begin by making their first ancestors in sims 2 bodyshop with canonically accurate genetics * and then personally "playing" through generations, making sure the right families are introduced at the right generation and all the sims are born in game with genetically correct appearances.

Why bother?

My original desire was just to begin playing a new rotational generational playthrough, but starting a decade "early" version and noticing that the currently available early megahoods I could find would have families who had no or missing ancestors, childhood memories or photos in the family album. This is completely fair to the creators of any of those megahoods, it's a lot, but the more I originally tried to just change, the more I wanted to change and ultimately decided it would be easier to just make my own.

When you play the Goth family, it would be Mortimer, Cassandra, etc but they would have full family trees, they would have proper graves in their back yard, photos in their albums, paintings on the wall that Victor Goth painted while he was alive and deco created by Lady RavenDancer Goth (these are random examples)

What are canonically accurate genetics?

Some ancestors that the premades from the actual sims 2 come with canon genetics as cited on websites like simswiki. HOWEVER, that is only for ancestors of premades that are in Sims 2, specifically as well as there being lore and timeline discrepancies between the games.

Certain families, specifically from Sims 1, are only 1 or 2 generations and, therefore, may be added or expanded on, and where ancestors may not have exact descriptions of sims 2 face templates, I intend to look at all the other family members in the sims 2 or what the models look like in the other games and base appearances accordingly.

For Example, in the Sims 1, Victor Goth is not mentioned. In the sims 2, he is a deceased ancestor of the Goth family. In the sims 3, he is still just a deceased ancestor of the playable Goth family BUT, his brother, Samuel Goth, is a playable ghost. This creates a plot hole, if Victor has a brother, he needs parents to properly connect them on the family tree, but no parents are directly connected in the lore, so what do we do?

This is an example of one of my "lore edits," Victor and Samuel Goth need parents, and although there is no canon answer, we can deduct a lore friendly one.

In Sims 3 pets for console, there is a reference to a ghost named Timaeus, who is the oldest known member of the Goth family. He is the captain of the "The Hawthorn" and one of the founders of Sugar Maple Coast, previously known as Gilman Hill. He was said to have married Angela Gilman. This would, however, not explain all of the Goth ancestry, so it can not be the full answer.

Lady RavenDancer Goth is also their ancestor and should also be represented, so again, what do we do?

Here is what I currently came up with. I didn't like how "Consort Capp" didn't have an "birth name" for before he was a consort of Consetta Capp, and in looking into the Capp family, noticed a lot of names referring to royalty and the last name Thebe, but none of them have been reused for connecting them to Princess Cornelia Thebe either. SO, I renamed "Consort" as "Clemente Goth," Gunther Goth's brother, who takes his wife's name, Capp, still. Going back to ancestry, I made Timaeus and Angela Goth have a baby boy named Alexander Goth, who ends up marrying Lady RavenDancer of Thebes, the younger sister of Princess Cordelia. I created parents from Raven and Cordelia named King Kassandros of Thebes and Queen Nymphadora of Verona (these will have been the rulers of the kingdom that Princess Cordelia was originally from when they were fleeing the Great Sloth invasion)

Since Princess Cordelia dated multiple pirates, I was also planning on having her marry Admiral Landgraab and become their ancestor.

What if I don't like these changes?

I do have to connect and change certain things because, due to different game mechanics, the sims timeline does not always all line up on it's own and a real "perfect" lore accurate hood with every family would be too inconsistent (which Landgraab family would you use? etc etc)

HOWEVER, I am going to be doing all of my research and posting everything on here as I go, so if anyone has any feedback before I finish this, I will always be open to discuss and create the best version for the greater community
