don't mind me, i'm just creating knitting patterns based on actual knitwear i've drawn on my OCs...
so here's this pattern based on that one time einarr wore this sweater.
---
unfortunately, my dumb ass has NOT been consistent with rune's knit jacket. so i just kinda had to come up with something based on common elements from them all.
maybe someday i will make something irl based on these. perhaps. could be fun
#low stakes 🦇#i've just kinda been picking up knitting lately haha#also lmfao sorry to every potential cosplayer..... if you want it as accurate as possible you're gonna have to learn certain fibercrafts :)#some of which take a lot of hours and labor. oops.#bat's sweater was made with needlebinding. einarr's tunic was woven and then handstitched together. both of these are made of wool#and the edges of his tunic and cape were done with tablet-weaving. very viking age type of crafts really#because einarr made all that. he has so much time yall. he also knits. and probably crochets. and embroiders. HE HAS SO MUCH TIME.#man's literally immortal. obviously he's open to learning additional crafts that he normally wouldn't learn in his mortal time#meanwhile rune's kofte was obviously knitted as that's kinda the point of this post. the patterned nordic kind. his mom probably made it.#ironically morten may actually be the easiest one to cosplay with accurate materials#like that's just a normal hoodie. probably home-sewn.#the sleeve flowers were probably printed onto the fabric or included as a part of it idk but machines were definitely involved#anyway it's nearly 2 am as i write this. and i probably gotta sleep#gonna queue this for tomorrow when more people are awake

:+: Good Morning :+:
I had no idea you read Sherlock Holmes! I haven’t gotten to the Hounds of Baskervilles yet, but I am anticipating it greatly. I did read A Study in Scarlet, the Sign of The Four and lots of other little stories.
I must say that I love Sherlock Holmes a ton. They have been the best mystery/detective stories I have ever read.
Anyway, hope you’re well and have a good day!
-Lu
im going out of order with my reading but it makes it more fun for me. i loved the hound of the baskervilles! i read a lot of classical literature when im out of spoons for much else its rather comforting. im reading a study in scarlet now. or will be when i go to read it before bed anyways.
hope you have a good day as well today and as always. enjoy your bay tobiano
#to be fair i do a lot of things. currently i am sewing a waistcoat in blue denim#fingers crossed it fits snugly without much hassle. i will need to learn waistcoat pockets for this and they look hard :(#the vast majority of my hobbies are very old ones. and as i dislike the noise of electrics i dont use them#so my questions about pre electric tools sort of ended up giving me a fascination with victorian tailoring techniques#and as such it spiraled from there#ignoring that the home sewing machine (non electrical) is a fairly recent invention. my machine is from 1910 which is remarkably recent#so i often find myself immersed in old fashions and fabric types. leading to classical fiction being epic cause theres so many mentions-#of fabrics and colors and styles from then#but i also like looking at old fashion catalogues. faves are 1910s magazines and catalogues#its rather fun to take the time to figure out traditional ways of sewing things because they end up being sturdier in the long run#okay okay that was a lot of useless information but i will leave it in the tags ok?#askbox#still figuring out how to rig a non electric lathe for my wood working stuff lol#i fear i am the most chronically offline person i know of 😔👍

After admiring all the lovely quilts I've been lucky enough to order from @anotherdayforchaosfay, I remembered that I had made this waaay back in high school. Took some digging, but I found it folded on a hanger in one of my closets.
It's not the best, being the first (and only) quilt that I've ever made. If you get close to it, points dont match and the quilting is wonky. But I'm still proud of it. I took the class bc I knew knowing the basics of how to sew and how to operate a sewing machine are important skills, even if I don't apply it in my everyday life.
#I have 2 sewing machines#A terrifying heavy duty one that i still havent gotten the hang of the pedal so it goes from 0-60 sooner than I'm comfortable with#And a regular one that has a lovely speed limiter on it so i can press fully on the pedal and it will only go as fast as i set it#(That's the type i learned on so it's nice)

i cannot believe some people will excuse using GenAI as a "tool" for writing and claim it makes them better.
just saw the most insane take about it in a fanfic communities post and genuinely? you are not a writer. you do not deserve hate and harassment, but you have no place in a creative space like that. YOU are the reason so many people will begin to lock works behind several walls.
your castle is made of cards and built on a foundation of stolen works and lies.
you do not belong in a creative space.
you want more ideas? you want better ways to sort them?
consume more media and engage with them, dissect their themes and identify what you liked about it.
learn to put these themes and identifies down in a mess, make bullet point lists, and sort them later.
however you want to categorize them, do so. use discord servers, use your notes app, for the love of god learn to do your own thinking. you only think you're doing better because you have outsourced a necessary skill to a machine to do the thinking for you.
you have failed yourself fundamentally, i hope you realize that.
#anti GenAI#the expansion of consuming media will help you get more ideas#the more you expose yourself to things that are new or slightly uncomfortable#will allow you to learn new things and engage with new ideas#seldom is a thought unique as a thousand monkeys on type writers may eventually reinvent shakespear#but how amazing is it we get things so amazing like books like House of Leaves and movies like NOPE#learn to be okay with being uncomfortable#learn to be okay with doing the work#learn to love creating and weaving every inch of yourself into your work without letting a machine do it#you do not need a machine to do it for you#and if you claim you do then you do not deserve to be in spaces with other creatives#you become the pea under the mattess#you are the reason scrapers will worm their way into locked doors#you are the reason scrapers will make works inaccessible#because seldom will you see the door just locked and closed. eventually more locks and doors will be added.#the maze has only just begun to form and you let it form by engaging with the monster it is meant to keep out.

Head cannon that Shockwave doesn't use the word "please" because it doesn't make mathematical sense
(Two inputs resulting in the same output is viable, but one input resulting in two different outputs is not)
"Please" as in I'm begging you and "please" as in I'm scoffing at you are the two options I'm thinking of here
#I'm talking variables here#I don't remember the exact mathematical procedure I'm thinking of for this#but I know I learned it#The analogy I remember was a soda dispenser#two different buttons on the soda dispenser can output the same type of soda#but if you hit a button on the soda machine and It gives you coke and then you hit it another time and it gives you Sprite#That's a no no#shockwave#Transformers

I hear that pit smell can change depending on diet and other factors,
Is that true? And if so what’s youre favorite kind?
that is true!! most notably, garlic and onions give a more pungent scent that's most immediately recognizable. but other foods like red meat elicit a more savory aroma :3 personally, i don't see a HUGE difference day to day in terms of diet compared to other factors like physical activity, so it's not as impactful for me. i do quite enjoy the diverse aromas that come about from a varied diet, though! it's subtly different day to day and it keeps things interesting :3
for me, the sweet spot is this; shower and don't put on deodorant, then go out walking or do some other light activity. that evening is like, the perfect spot for me =w= a couple days beyond that and it gets a bit stale and less alluring for me personally. the big draw for me is the intense and concentrated musk and aroma of a person! less so their perfumes and diet, if that makes sense!
it's fun to experiment and see how things change, though! i'm very thankful my gf is into this kinda stuff too, i love her to bits ^w^
#ask#theterrancrowe#not a suuuuuuper scientific answer but those are the thoughts rattling around in my brain!#i definitely wanna take a more academic look at this beyond the experiments my gf and i do at home#the only papers i've read (years and years ago) went into the machinations of antiperspirants and what is best for that#and it only briefly touched on the specific types of bacteria that creates certain smells#but there's a lot more to it!#so much to learn for such a beautiful thing :3

I don't understand the "type _ with your eyes closed" challenges. Are you ALL exclusive phone users or were you just never taught to touch type?? I'm on a keyboard and I typed this whole post with my eyes closed. Just for fun.
#I understand if it's the phone thing but if you're on PC how#how do you not eventually just sort of internalize the layout of the keyboard?#even if you haven't or can't they still have the bumps on the f and j keys for this exact purpose#it's blind accessibility so idk how it's hard for anyone to type with their eyes closed. on a computer#wdym you don't just know where all the letters/numbers/symbols are instinctively#if my eyes are closed sometimes I will still make a typo but I can immediately feel that I made a typo and correct it#it's not like I type everything while staring at the keyboard. in fact right now I am watching a video#I never even properly learned in school btw they gave everyone machines and told me tough luck when mine broke#thoughts

idk if anyone else notices this
but almost every program I use now on desktop and on mobile where you can type text out has an auto-correct feature.
...including the notepad app.
and on one hand it pisses me off, bc if I type something I certain way I either actually mean it the way I typed it, or I wanna be able to correct it myself. ESPECIALLY when I use a keyboard, bc then the things I type are completely deliberate.
also: I'm trilingual. Sometimes I mix languages for some reason, maybe to make a joke, maybe to label something appropriately, maybe to explain a word. but then the autocorrect features automatically turn it into a word from the language I used for the majority of the sentence, which is insanely annoying. you wont believe how many times that actually unintelligible, bc the closest match the program choses is not always what the word I typed meant (become doesnt translate to bekommen in german.)
and on the other hand I find it nothing but a hinderance while writing prose
for now I managed to turn it off on my usual writing program which is fantastic honestly, because in prose it is not uncommon to invent names or words. it's also not uncommon to use odd slang or colloquialisms while writing out character dialogue. and yet fucking firefox kept on auto-correcting my fucking prose text and I didn't even notice until I read it back later to check for errors.
I just wonder who this is for. bc seriously- we DONT need automatic spellchecking in EVERY APP. and even if some people like it, WHY is it enabled by default and sometimes not even disableable???
#i also refuse to call it AI bc AI is a marketing term for idiot losers who think theyre elon musk#its a type of machine learning that is obstructive at best and problematic at worst#rant

alsoooo genuine prediction: crochet out knitting in
#i think people will start to realize that knitting is better for certain types of garments and start learning to knit#already i’m seeing a LOT of knitting machine content i predict much more of it in the future#this may be an observation of the crest of the wave rather than a prediction of it but…that’s okay

Relating to your post on the subtle angst of being a machine, I hunger for all the possible physical angst elements. Where is the fear of limited or increasingly costly repair parts? Where is the worry of the shrinking pool of mechanical experts (engine troubleshooters)? The simple inescapable awareness that one's moving parts are constantly degrading? Horror relating to corrosive/damaging environments? Complex emotional trauma and strange coping mechanisms in response to the reality of their entire "family" slowly *literally* falling apart?
YES!!! YESS!!! FUCK YES!!! SOMEONE THAT GETS IT!!!!!
going to. put this under the cut bc I have SO MUCH TO SAY.
You get it SO well, so many good points there. All things come to an end, and engines especially can be kept alive for over a hundred years if they are well taken care of, but there's so many who are not as valued or who simply cannot be taken care of as well as their owners want to take care of them. And they can rarely do things about it. It's honestly admirable that some of the Sodor engines have worked so hard to protect and preserve their fellow rolling stock. Oliver is a beloved little engine, but he likely stays up some nights thinking about how if Douglas hadn't happened upon him, he wouldn't even be here right now. He'd have been melted down ages ago. Not to bring up Hiro again but he is literally the first engine that comes to mind when I think of this sort of thing. He went to Sodor so excited to be helpful and useful and was promptly abandoned not long after he'd broke down. He was stuck there for god knows how long and if Thomas hadn't found him, by accident mind you, he would've corroded and died there most likely. And yet he would've rather done that then get scrapped. Almost as if he wanted to pass away on his own terms. Like I mentioned before, we're shown often that most of the kind-hearted engines (specifically on Sodor) will put forth their best effort to keep any machine out of the smelters. Thomas listened to Hiro's story and was likely deeply disturbed that Hiro had been abandoned like that and not a single person dared to look hard enough to find him when he was still on Sodor this whole time. But with his horror, came understanding, because he knows the reality of even some of the most famous locomotives at times can be harsh and even deadly. And Spencer showed no care or concern at all, not only that, but he almost seemed delighted to inform Sir Tophamn Hatt of Hiro's existence purely to ensure that he was scrapped. He knew nothing about Hiro. He doesn't even LIVE on Sodor. And yet he took great pride in the concept of getting the old engine scrapped. As if that does not mean the very end of an engine's life. It's honestly really unsettling to me how quickly Spencer jumped to that conclusion. Not to mention the tearful horror in Hiro's voice when he was yelling out to Thomas whilst trying to get away from Spencer.
Henry was locked in a tunnel for fearing the rain would damage his coat. How often did he beg those workers that would come by to let him out? How many times do you think he cried feeling like he'd failed his entire railway and that he'd never be released again? There was no sympathy shown for him. And no acknowledgement to the terror he very likely felt for the time he was trapped there in that tunnel. He got sick not long afterwards, the anguish he went through in that time period was probably something awful. Most all machines are at the mercy of their employers. They don't have the appendages to escape the situations they get in that some humans might be able to get out of. If you deprive any machine of their fuel they cannot go anywhere. If you refuse to repair them they cannot go anywhere or function properly. There's a reason they pride themselves on being really useful. If you're not really useful, you're either sent away or you're...well...sent somewhere to be scrapped. It's the way the world works with real, non-sentient machines...and it seems like the TTTE universe operates on those same principals despite being a world where 99% of all heavy machinery is alive and can think and speak for themselves. Sometimes it's just progression, sometimes it's business, but at no time is it ethical. They are alive. They have wants and desires and emotions and fears, yet very few of the humans in their world seem capable of understanding that. There's so many scary things that come with being an engine. If you're too slow and you get less done than a new model, you're likely done for unless somebody cares enough about you to take you in and restore you. Sodor seems to work overtime to preserve old rolling stock, I'm sure they would've taken incredible care of Hiro had he not went home to Japan, and it seems like they did miss him there considering that he's still very well taken care of when he comes to visit Sodor after he'd moved back home. But there's so many engines who don't have that luxury. Hiro just as well could've been sent back or left sitting still, of course whoever owns him now clearly cares for him a great deal. The other types of machines aren't as touched on as our beloved engines are, but they surely experience the same kind of stuff. Airplanes may just as easily feel the same anxieties as old steamers do. They get antsy when they can't fly because what is a plane good for if it can't get off the ground? There's just SO many things to talk about. I really do think the fandom should include things like this in angst content more bc there is a lot of the show's own canon that is genuinely unsettling when put into real world perspectives.
#thomas and friends#thomas & friends#ttte#Discussion Board#<- tag for asks/post that aren't rlly headcanons but aren't au talk either#THE HORRORS OF BEING A MACHINE!!! CLAP FOR THE HORRORS!!!#I'm usually not the type to get overly dreadful with discussions especially of a show like this but HOW CAN I NOT.#Ttte is unreasonably fucked up for a kids show like the implications are INSANE#it seems normal in theory but when you analyze it even the tiniest bit it quickly becomes not normal.#sorry if some things don't make sense but RAAHGHH I LOVE THIS CONCEPT SO MUCH.#I'm a big machine lover in the way of I don't know everything about them but am incredibly fascinated by them and trying to learn everythin
