23 years!! So Eddie hasn’t been to confession since he was around 10?!
Well if that isn’t interesting!!! That feels so pointed because that is a very young age to stop going to confession - unless you’ve started to realise you’re different - that the church as been teaching you the things you’re feeling and realising about yourself are not ok according to their teachings and beliefs and the best and easiest way to avoid religious wrath, not look at yourself too closely and bury your feelings is to just stop going to confession (assuming he was still going to church with his parents as I can’t imagine they’d not have him go to church every Sunday at 10!)

I think they are supposed to be twins???
(maybe originally in the concept art, but in canon it seems they aren't anymore? dion has been stated to be the oldest, but my thoughts are maybe like he's the older twin lmao. i will probably be 100% wrong if there is ever a future installment in this series.)

Funny story, I originally wanted to color these sketches, but I found that most of my traditional art supplies are unusable (the pencil colors has a very faded color, and most of my markers have a diluted yellow coloring lmaoooo ToT). I haven't been using them from 2019 and it really shows.
Oh yeah, here's a full page sketch.

On April Fool’s, they’re gonna drop an actually intentionally adorable-looking ghoul plush or Barbie-like Sister doll and reveal they could’ve made cute shit this entire while but actively choose not to. Then go right back to making so-ugly-it’s-cute cursed plushes like nothing happened.

Peaked ahead at Prince of Lies and Crucible because one of the other reasons I wanted to read the series for was Mask and wow, the FR wiki actually doesn't do Mask justice

are you proship?
i'm an adult who pays taxes so no.
serious answer, you know the content i produce and my beliefs probably align most closely with what the proshippers BELIEVE they're about (pro-weird shit, pro-art being made even if it's fucked up, anti-telling people to kill themselves cus they ship fictional siblings) as opposed to what 'antis' do.
that being said, i think proshippers are weird dorks who harass people as much as the antis do, it's just way more embarrassing cus they're mostly adults and antis are just teenagers who are weird about sex (which is also dorky but they're allowed to be lol).
i'm just fucking chilling, in short.

As history was becoming a legitimate academic discipline in the nineteenth century, scholars tried EXTREMELY hard to fit it alongside the natural sciences. The goal of history was to be as objective as possible, to not impose one's political and social opinions onto their writing. This changed as we moved forward into the twentieth century-- ESPECIALLY the 1960s. Suddenly, historians were expected to align themselves with great philosophers, and list their academic advisors and editors in the prefaces of their books-- just so readers knew exactly where they got their ideas from.
In my opinion, this is a very odd hypocrisy left over from history's days among the natural sciences. As the discipline became amorphous and constantly changing, and as writers were rightly influenced by their own historical moments, rigid schools of thought arose. We try and fit the discipline into tiny, unchanging boxes: XYZ historian writes about 1930s labor movements, and studied with ABC historian in graduate school, so therefore XYZ is clearly a Marxist.
To intellectualize myself, it's very possible that I'm only thinking of it like this because of the "philosophers" I read in undergrad. Obviously, someone who read Abbie Hoffman at 16 years old would find the institution of history to be hypocritical; and, obviously, they would want schools of thought to loosen up a little bit. Obviously, they would be a nihilist: nothing ever matters, period, and that's why everything matters.
Yes, true, we're influenced by the things we read. But that doesn't make us cultist followers of that reading. People are allowed to have new ideas; they don't have to be categorized. For a discipline that vehemently claims to be un-scientific, this feels like natural science.
I guess what I'm trying to soapbox here is that I don't like how historians try and fit themselves into categories. Write whatever you want. Study whatever you want. You don't have to follow in the footsteps of Michel Focault, because that guy was a hack, anyway. Do whatever the hell you want.

I feel like it’s important to inform everyone that right now there’s a bill moving through congress to police the content of Palestinian educational material so as to not promote hate or violence. Against Israel.
Tumblr media
Full bill under cut
118th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. R. 3266
IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
November 2, 2023
Received; read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations
AN ACT
To require the Secretary of State to submit annual reports reviewing the curriculum used by the Palestinian Authority, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the “Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act”.
SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
Congress finds the following:
(1) In 2016 and 2017, the Palestinian Authority published modified curricula for school-aged children in grades 1 through 11.
(2) Textbooks used by the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank and Gaza include graphics portraying violence against Israeli soldiers, positive portrayals of individuals who have committed attacks against citizens of Israel, and references to Palestinian efforts to target the “Zionists”.
(3) PA textbooks are used at schools sponsored by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) because UNRWA schools use the textbooks of the host government.
(4) On April 26, 2018, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a report that found the following:
(A) Textbooks in PA schools feature inaccurate and misleading maps of the region and include militaristic, adversarial imagery and content that incite hatred.
(B) The Department of State raised with Palestinian officials the objectionable content in textbooks, including a specific math problem using the number of Palestinian casualties in the First and Second Intifadas.
(C) The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), in its review of the textbooks, identified content not aligned with United Nations values, the majority of which content related to neutrality or bias issues, including issues related to maps and references to Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
SEC. 3. SENSE OF CONGRESS.
It is the sense of Congress that the Palestinian Authority has not sufficiently eliminated content and passages encouraging violence or intolerance toward other countries or ethnic groups from the curriculum used in their schools.
SEC. 4. REPORTS REQUIRED.
(a) In General.—Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act and annually thereafter for two years in accordance with subsection (c), the Secretary of State shall submit to the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate a report reviewing curriculum, including textbooks, leaflets, pamphlets, magazines, and other instructional materials, used in schools in areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority or located in Gaza and controlled by any other entity. Each such report shall include the following:
(1) A determination of whether there is content or passages encouraging violence or intolerance toward other countries or ethnic groups in such curriculum, and a detailed explanation of the reasons for reaching such determination.
(2) An assessment of the steps the Palestinian Authority is taking to reform such curriculum at schools to conform with standards of peace and tolerance in the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (adopted November 16, 1995).
(3) A determination whether United States foreign assistance is used, directly or indirectly, to fund the dissemination of such curriculum by the Palestinian Authority.
(4) A detailed report on how United States assistance is being used to address curriculum that encourages violence or intolerance toward other nations or ethnic groups.
(5) A detailed report about United States diplomatic efforts in the preceding five years to encourage peace and tolerance in Palestinian education.
(6) If any diplomatic efforts referred to in paragraph (5) were stopped by the Secretary of State, the reasons for such stoppages.
(b) Public Availability.—The Secretary of State shall post on a publicly available website of the Department of State each report required under subsection (a).
(c) Subsequent Deadlines.—Each report required by subsection (a), other than the first such report, shall be submitted not later than 90 days after the date on which a new school year begins for schools controlled by the Palestinian Authority.
Passed the House of Representatives November 1, 2023.
Attest: kevin f. mccumber,
Clerk.

La légende d'Icare
Défi d’écriture 30 jours pour écrire, 20 août
Thème : alignement/les ailes d’Icare
. .

jagmeet singh now acting like he's Always Been the sole voice of reason among the parties' leaders calling for a ceasefire, when the national NDP convention called the cops on pro-palestine protestors calling on them to make a statement, and the ontario NDP threw sarah jama out of their caucus for being pro-palestine and getting threats for it (which made her white colleagues ~feel unsafe~, marit stiles resign bitch), and olivia chow condemning rallies for palestine in toronto, is like ... lmao. peak NDP behaviour. we're the good guys but don't ask us to be Too Progressive because then we might not be able to get the moderately-left Liberal votes but also never criticize us because We're The Good Guys!!!!!!!

postscript to the sieihiŕysieim fiasco (affectionate)
i've had a slowly-simmering issue about how to parse the <iei> trigraph. see, <ie> is /e/, but <ei> is also /e/. so is <iei> /ei/ or /ie/? i suppose i could just rule that all letter combinations move left-to-right, but consonantal laenhi being able to be part of two digraphs simultaneously puts a wrench in that.
deriving that word had me slapping myself upside the head: i've always wanted that trigraph to mean /ie/. i currently have two other ways of writing that sequence: via a laenhi, a graph i can only use once per word, and as <lye>, which i can only do word-finally.
analogues to those two methods exist to write /ei/, as well as two that /ie/ doesn't have: HRC <Crei> and weak vowel cheat <eoi>. Those two have far fewer restrictions (the latter none), so it's only fair & balanced to make it an orthographic rule that:
Tumblr media
after all, i have yet to run into an issue where i desperately needed to write /ei/ but was unable, whereas i've effectively been using <iei> for /ie/ constantly, just without formalizing it like this.
these are messy loanword corner cases, though. generally, HG's orthographic conventions are very finely tuned to "native" wordstock. the regular inherited doublet of sieihiŕysieim is (om) sum fiosum, literally "(a) good face," which takes less letters and less insane orthography stunting to write out despite being the same length syllable-wise: [sõ.θjo'zõ] vs. [ʃi:i:'ʃiɲ]
