⬆✨My literal face right now while i’m making this post ✨⬆
So it’s official, i hit 2.5k i think sometime last week (woohoo 🥳), i said it in my follower celebration last year that i never thought i’d get this amount of followers but i’m saying it again now, and knowing how long i’ve been on this site (10 long damn yrs on and off) some of those followers are probably inactive at this point but yeah i just wanted to say thanks to everyone who follows me, interacts with me and loves the gifs i create as it motivates me to want to create more and learn more (even when i get annoyed about how bad the like/reblog ratio is nowadays haha)
So i’m gonna take the opportunity to thank you guys (new and old) for sticking with me through the years and through all the fandoms and my multifandom mess blog, i know this place has definitely become more stranger things centric this past year but yeah, it’s still a multifandom mess haha.
I wanna get some gif requests going and maybe some other stuff too.
So if you wanna take part send me some things:
✨ + a colour palette + character/ship/show/whatever i post about
🎨 + 2 colours + character/ship/show/whatever i post about (i know that sounds similar to the colour palette meme but it’ll be different i swear lol...)
🌵 + 2 things and make me choose between them (mix it up doesn’t have to be characters, could be outfits etc.)
⏰ + show ep/movie and i’ll blindly pick scene from them for a gifset
⚡ for some other general gif requests maybe (idk maybe you have an idea of a particular steve harrington scene you want me to add to my growing endless steve gifs - or maybe just well anything related to what i gif?)
🎵 i’ll put my Spotify on shuffle and make 5 song playlist for you
(dunno what to ask for? take a look at my last celebration/ my gifs for some insp)
Some mutual only things:
💜 and i’ll give you a compliment for your blog (i won’t lie it’ll probably end up being something generic from how bad i am at complimenting people but i’ll give it my best shot)
and for my gif/editing making mutuals
⭐ i’ll list my 3 of my fave edits of yours and why i like them
I think that’s all i had? I’m not sure i’ve been typing and re-typing this for hours now so who knows?
Gonna tag some mutuals new and old in no particular order under the cut, i know i don’t actually talk to well over half of you and i’m probably just that rando mutual you see sitting alone in the corner at parties but hey, feel free to promote or not completely up to you i’m not fussed.
@himboharringtxn @agentjemmafitzsimmons @ne8ula @mattssmurdock @spacejesusobiwan @babygirlspector @natasharomanovf @spookyharrington @alivedean @bebecas @pegsccarter @deanncastiel @nikolatexla @tomhollandd @achingly-shy @emziess @werewolfsteve @finalgalnancy @kamala-khann
i know i’ve missed people and if i didn’t tag you i’m sorry, i just never know who to tag in stuff like this

/post/708163486549786625/insp-by-steveharrington i understand eddie and steve's parts but why is nancy trapped by the narrative? i just never really thought about and am curious !
Thank you for the great question!! I called Nancy "trapped by the narrative" to refer to her romantic relationships. (More under the cut, beware this is very thorough lmao 😇)
There are different ways to interpret Nancy's character, what she wants and what's best for her. All of these interpretations are valid. You're allowed to think whatever you want about Nancy since she's a fictional character, but here are two specific interpretations that make me think she's "trapped by the narrative".
(1) There are many fans that think Nancy should not end up with either Jonathan or Steve. They think that she should not be in a relationship, and instead just go college and focus on her career. Maya Hawke said something like this in an interview. From personal experience I can say it's very difficult and confusing to be in a long-term relationship around this age, while you're also trying to grow up and plan your future. Stranger Things is not real life so real-life rules don't apply, but in the show Nancy has shown a lot of ambition and career focus. She resented Jonathan when he didn't support her at their job in season 3, so if either Steve or Jonathan ever wanted her to prioritize their relationship/starting a family over her career, this would likely lead to some issues. And Steve has specifically said he wants a big family. So textually, it looks like Nancy would be better off moving on without either of her love interests.
(2) There are many fans that think Nancy is a lesbian, and maybe she could be with Robin instead. In this case, Nancy has likely stayed in her relationships with Steve and Jonathan because of compulsory heterosexuality, something that many lesbians experience (which is basically the societal pressure to be straight. It is the norm to be straight, and any other sexuality is not accepted). Here is a cool post that shows this happening in the show.
But it's very unlikely that either of these things will happen.
In season 4, we saw the return of the Nancy-Jonathan-Steve love triangle. What's strange about this decision is that it sort of already happened and was resolved. Things ended between Steve and Nancy and she got with Jonathan instead. Steve had closure for their relationship in season 2, and in season 3 they had both moved on, but then in season 4 he suddenly confesses he still has feelings for her. (The Duffers probably didn't know what else to do with him, because of all the reasons in the original "Steve was abandoned by the narrative" post that inspired my gifset.)
But anyways, it's happening. They are setting up lots of drama between Nancy and Jonathan and Steve in season 5, and this will likely be the main focus of Nancy's storyline. Even though she already got over Steve... And even though her relationship with Jonathan was in trouble even before Steve got involved... Based on how they ended season 4, when everyone thinks of Nancy during season 5, their main question will be who does she end up with, Jonathan or Steve?
In season 1, Nancy talks about how her parents didn't really love each other, but got married and started a family anyway because it was what they were supposed to do. About this, she says "Screw that!"
In season 3, we saw Nancy to be fiercely ambitious, and wishing to be more independent, so she could have agency over her career and become an accomplished journalist. After Jonathan left for California, they could have done a lot of interesting things with her character, and it would've been cool to see her move on and be successful and fulfilled without a relationship at all.
But in season 4, they reintroduced Steve as a love interest, and by the finale both him and Jonathan have unresolved drama with Nancy. Now Nancy's narrative is all about her romantic relationship once again, and she's trapped in the very same love triangle from season 1. She's trapped into choosing someone, one or the other. She likely will not have the option to choose herself. She won't have the option to really explore what makes her happy, by exploring her sexuality, or exploring what her life looks like without a romantic relationship.
I think that's everything. I hope that explains it, thanks so much for the question! 🥰

Ok correct me if I'm wrong because I don't ever do this buuuuut I just saw this gifset and thought of 3DW daddy putting buck in his new restored muscle car and taking him for a ~*drive*~ and as stereotypically macho and silly daddy is for getting all hyped up about a fast car it ~*does things*~ to buck?? Like think about daddy breaking speech limits on empty roads with his big hand on buck's thigh?? 😩👌
Cass, Cass, Cass! Baby! Why don’t you ever do this again?? Because! What!
(okay let us quickly horny panic at how FUCKING HOT this is i will never get over this, fucking fuck)
Goddddddd, this shouts 3DWD and frisky lil’ Bucky Bun from the mountain tops, I am vibrating with such powerdul horny energy oh my.
So many thoughts let me just—
Any time Steve has his hat on backwards, Bucky knows he is in for a good time, knows it the moment Steve traipses into the living room with a bit of a swagger that can only mean Daddy is proud of something
“Wanna go for a drive...?”
1967 Chevrolet Chevelle: sleek and classic, dark like the night, loud as hell. Aside from his Bunny and his Boat, it’s Steve’s pride and joy
The only thing that makes Steve more excited about something he’s already pumped and proud of is Bucky’s reaction to it. He loves the verbal praise, loves to show off, loves to be pet. Bucky lays it on appropriately thick when Steve starts the car and backs it out of the garage for a bit of show
It’s impressive, really, what Steve managed to do with the car. And Bucky won’t lie— it really gets him going
Proud Steve always gets him going...
...but put Proud Steve in a fast car that is doing well over 90, nearing 100, on a back road with his hand on Bucky’s thigh as he hollers?
😎 Bucky finds himself saddled up to Steve’s side, lips on his neck, teeth nipping at his earlobe pretty damn quick
Bucky isn’t sure if it’s the rumble of the car or the rumble of his Daddy under his lips but he’s quite inclined to figure it out
“Why don’t you find a place to pull over so I can safely show you how much I appreciate the effort and time you’ve put into her over the past few months, Daddy...”
(it is his Daddy’s purr he feels under his lips, comes to realize this as he slips his hand between Steve’s legs, gropes and tugs at Daddy’s hardening cock as he speaks...)
“Bun...”
“As much as I’d like to suck on your cock as you keep shifting into fifth...”
Well hellz bellz, Cass! You beautiful sweet thing! Look at you! I’ll be thinking about this one for a while. You need to come back more oftennnnnn I lub you so much! 💖😍

TFATWS episode 1 rewatch commentary
The first scene was so beautiful. I loved that we didn't start directly with the fight sequence. It feels way closer to the quiet beginning of CATWS and I love it so much.
The title is also SO NEAT, music's on point too but hey it’s Henry Jackman the one thing I’m sure it’s going to be great overall is the score.
The choreography is AMAZING, really well shot. Sam shielding himself with only one wing was MA-JES-TIC.
“WHAT'S UP” EXACTLY SAM EXACTLY
I did feel so uncomfortable in regards to the military aspect of it. Not that I was expecting anything else, but both here and in Captain Marvel the military we're good guys < 3 propaganda is so blatant and ugh:/ At least there wasn’t a literal recruitment spot like with CM.
The yellow filter in the Tunisia scene BYE please stop with the yellow filters 2k21
"I've been working with the Air Force for six months now" So, did Sam even catch a break at all after Endgame? Or did he just throw himself to work like SOMEONE did after being iced for 70 years. Hmmm? Sam????
"Essentially, these people, they want a world that's unified without borders" OH NO! HOW AWFUL, how evil of these bad guys smh
Joaquin: SO about Steve
Sam: :)))))) nope
"Moon stuff" SAAAM
#1 cry with Sam's speech, full on chills.. Fuck. Me. His voice about to break before saying thank you bYE.
Shady politician: "It was the right decision" (FUCKKKKK YOUUU)
Rhodey: *press any key to doubt *
I need someone to analyze the different curation of the two exhibits pretty please
NOT THE PHOTO POST-AZZANO JFC. That photo is my weakness, Bucky sweetie (also I find hilarious that usually when there are articles about Stucky and/or #givecaptainamericaaboyfriend they aaaalways use that photo LMAO)
In case someone wants to read the transcription of the texts about Bucky: "In 1944, while on a mission to thwart a Hydra weapon transport in the Alps, Barnes was thrown from a train and believed to have been killed in action. It wasn't until 2014, over seventy years later, that it was revealed that Barnes was alive, having been found by Hydra operatives. Captain America himself (i can't read) the effort to bring Barnes in only to later aid in a escape from custody having been convinced of his innocence. Steve's loyalty to his old friend, coupled with his refusal to sign the Sokovia Accords, led to the dissolution of the Avengers and drove the Captain into hiding with other like-minded Avengers including Natasha Romanoff, Wanda Maximoff, and Sam Wilson. The current whereabouts of Barnes remains unknown, habing been labeled a fugitive following his escape from custody."
"current wherabout unknown" but not the government, interesting. Also, pretty good summary of CACW from the public's perspective, although one of the things I always wanted to see explored was the public's reaction of the fallout of them going into hiding after Civil War (which I'm hoping we'll get to see a little bit of in Black Widow).
Interesting point about the 70 years without having Captain America. Clearly the sacrifice play wasn't enough this time to fuel the nationalism so they went with a squeaky clean John Walker instead.
Sam saying the shield belongs to Steve I'm going to cry now excuse me. Sam. Sam sweetie.
The No. 1 Captain America comic in the display ugH fuck yes
See this is how you do a cameo that has actual meaning. Thank god for Malcolm Spellman being a competent writer. That scene was so well written.
HAVE YOU PRAISED ANTHONY MACKIE'S PERFORMANCE TODAY?? Holy shit that last shot fucked me up.
I'm loving the use of the wide shots, especially in the flashback. The camera movements are in synch with The Soldier's state of mind and mission focus, so good.
EVERYONE STAND UP FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM aka The Winter Soldier theme composed by Henry Jackman.
Without a doubt the most brutal TWS fight scene there has been, People involved in Punisher and John Wick are involved in this and it SHOWS.
For the record, still stands that the only time we've seen him chocking someone with his right hand instead of the metal arm remains the Maria Stark assasination. I know it's probably because of blocking and the way the shot was composed but the implications are still bone chilling. God.
Uhhmmmm I'm very ambivalent about the "Hail Hydra". On one hand, it was 100% fanservice and the internet is probably going to go insane over it, and the dead way Sebastian Stan delivered the line. Good shit. Buuut what I love about CATWS is the way Bucky never, ever ever, mouths Hydra rethoric, and even when Pierce tries to gaslight him with it, it's just an empty effort. The Winter Soldier isn't doing anything because of ideological loyalty to Hydra, even if it's product of brainwashing, it's just sheer dehumanization. They don’t need him to say the words because he’s just An Asset. There are people who have put it more eloquently but yeah, I rather go with the fanon interpretation of that aspect.
The music growing louder with the shot of the keys. GOD.
I'm fine this is fine.
#2 cry with the therapy scene of fucking course.
The government monitoring Bucky is noooot going to end well lmao.
"We need to know that you're not gonna * slowmo stabbing motions *
Bucky: * nodding along slowly *
I laughed out loud.
"It's passive agressive" I love him.
The way this scene just sucker punched me in the face, made me weep and then had me cracking up. Amazing.
Therapist: You can't do anything illegal
Bucky: yup yup check checkity check. What IS considered illegal tho?
*aggresive tablet finger pressing *
"Then why isn't it rule number one?" Bucky your Steve is showing.
I love the close up shot. I'll keep saying it. It's so good.
"I'm James Bucky Barnes" yeah you are🥺
That smile is nightmare fuel LMFAO I love it.
Uhm the way I'm kinning Bucky it's not funny anymore damn
That whole “are you lashing out at me” rambling is really reminiscent of the bar scene in CATFA and how he lashed out at Steve after Peggy left. Uhm yeah fuck.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT?" "Peace"
"That is UTTER BULLSHIT" "You're a terrible shrink"
yeah ugly crying to ugly laughing speedrun for me
"You're free" "To do what?" jesus. That entire scene. #3 and #4 and #5 cries for moi.
Ugh that Brooklyn shot. Someone needs to do a gifset compairing it to the one in CATFA asap.
"It's like Monique but it's got a "U" in there for uniqueness" "That's absurd" LMAO
"You can't keep fighting with your neighbors" uHM * redacted redacted i'm shifting into 1940s mode abort abort *
"Nobody passed 90" "So young. Such a shame" FGADHGA
🥺🥺 yes flex those flirting skills good for you
"It's a dance to this things. You can't… you gotta warm up and I haven't danced since 1943. Feels like." #6 cry I completely broke down into tears with that.
This Yori storyline is going to punch me in the face with a metal fist. Great!
The TWS theme when he looks at Yori fuuuuuck.
GREAT LET'S GO TO LOUISIANA THAT WAS GETTING HEAVY.
Those shots of Sam in the car. Immaculate. Showstoping. Yes.
Marvel, what if instead of promoting the military industrial complex you put a lot of publicity about cars?
"Uncle Sam!" LMAO subtle.
Everyone trying to have the wings lmao same.
I've only had Sarah for a day but etc. Brooklyn 99 meme
Good mirroring about Steve and Sam family's legacy. Good shit. Goooood shit.
Sam is trying so hard ouch my heart. I can't imagine how painful the scene with them reuniting must have been. He 100% still feels a lot of guilt about being gone for those 5 years (and even longer before that).
"Maybe it is time for us to move on" uuuuuuuuuuh
"To the rescue" "Always" 🥺🥺 i love them so much already
That shot outside the restaurant is so beautiful. Can't wait to see the night scenes in Madripoor tbh.
"I tried the whole online dating thing. It's pretty crazy". Uhm well that is something that Bucky Barnes has now said. In canon. Damn.
"It's a lot" "You sound like my dad" LMAO
Every Bucky fanfic trope speedrun with this scene
"Wow you really can drink" OH you have no idea
Just realized we don't even know her name, well.
"You have any siblings?" "I have a sister" THE WAY I SCREECHED. We're definitely getting Becca
Well that escalated quickly. The important thing is to try?
I can't deal with this BUCKY SWEETIE #8 cry right there fuck
The wardrobe department is KILLING IT, there's such a difference between the outfits of the shows vs how ugly and generic it usually is.
"ThEre is NO such thiNg as on time. You're either EARLY or LATE . picK One" lmao the way he delivered that line
At first I thought the flag smashers had thrown two cars out of a window LMAO
"I don't know how jurisdiction works here, but I'mma have to place you under arrest" uhm yikes. The way they changed Joaquín Torres backstory to just random army nice guy #1 is not sitting well with me, what can I say.
Sam's wings motions I LOVE HIM YOUR HONOR
Fuuuuck this guy.
"Funny how thing's always thighten around us" "Look, I'm on your side. After all, he's a hero". This script is C R I S P as hell, great fucking job.
"I don't care, I'm not gonna quit" "What are you trying to prove? And who you trying to prove it to" SHIT HSIT SHIT!!! UGH amazing. Look it's not necessary to say the show's questions out loud but how they flow between the conversations is still very satisfactory without feeling in your face about it. Inner conflicts have been set up fucking perfectly everyone * claps *
Ugh here we fucking go.  I knew this was how the episode was going to end but my stomach still dropped like a rollercoster. God.
The score is on point. Damn. Damn.
God, Sam.🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
The captain america franchise's visuals in the credits are always so amazing.
Also, does anybody know why Mackie isn't first in the billing?  Uhm what's that about?
ANYWAY CONCLUSION THAT EPISODE WAS SO FUCKING GOOD LIKE HOLY SHIT. I love them so much. The balance between the personal conflicts and the political aspect (although the military aspect is still very much yikes) was on point and it was overall a joy to watch.

Okay screw it it’s 4 AM so here are my feelings on @nicolettesnevin‘s gorgeous Black Widow gifset. I make absolutely no promises about logic or quality in here, just my emotional roller coaster!
Cause the thing is. THE FUCKING THING IS.
The set is designed to highlight juxtaposition, right? It’s not in chronological order, so we really get the impact of Nat’s growth, but also to see how much of it was already there.
I have been actively in denial enough that I always find Endgame gifs a shock. Seeing Nat break down was emotional in the theatres but it always gets overshadowed by her dying. (And can we talk about how she had her moment of crying that she thought was private, then got her shit together and went and supported people, because that’s what she does- this gifset could just as easily have had her stoic and collecting Clint, but then we wouldn’t have the contrast- and then being happy there was a chance at fixing things and then dying for the greater good and UGH FEELINGS THIS IS TERRIBLE that could have worked so well if anyone in canon had cared.)
But the gif set has a lot of examples of Nat not breaking the fourth wall, exactly- she’s not looking at the camera, she’s not looking at us- but we still get the weight of her gaze. Especially the last two gifs, which could be very similar but feel very different with context: Nat as “Natalie,” being guileless, and Nat as the public face of the Avengers, being no-nonsense. Which also works with the other Winter Soldier gif, of Nat looking at Steve, baring emotions despite herself (and contrast THAT ONE with the first gif and the one from Endgame and how they first met in Avengers, and think about the way their relationship has developed into one where Nat can let herself be vulnerable and even be raw, just- Nat), but also the first IM2 and even the Endgame crying, Steve’s out of the picture enough so that it’s Nat nearly looking at us.
But the thing is, there’s been a lot about how Nat doesn’t show emotion (to be honest, that’s something I gravitate towards in her), but the repeated positioning (I don’t remember if this is true on screen but DEFINITELY is in @nicolettesnevin‘s edits) shows us how much Nat DOES show. It’s not just looking at tiny microemotions; these scenes are carefully picked to show that Nat does display emotions- when she’s pushed to her limits, yes, but also it highlights where and with whom she feels safe.
There’s also space here for discussing what the text allows us to see- like, only showing us three real Nat breakdowns, in Winter Soldier with Steve, Ultron with Clint, and then Endgame alone-but-with-Steve was a narrative choice and not a sign that Nat never let her emotions get the better of her beyond that- but the places where she allowed emotions to... mix with her stoicism, I guess? are really striking too.
The Iron Man 2 gifs are so important because she’s not safe there, and it serves as- almost a control group, maybe? That’s totally the wrong word, it’s 4:30 AM and I’m rambling. But that’s Natasha guarded, just doing her job, and while I acknowledge IM2 makes many pretty terrible choices for Nat (even though I love it and it’s one of my most-rewatched Nat movies), it is so valuable for analysis that we have that Natasha with the blank stare and the brusque professionalism, because it shows us who she can be at work, undercover and known. In Avengers, with Steve we see exhaustion seeping through her determination, but it’s only with Clint we see her vulnerability, and that is a gift for him because she loves him. Ultron and Infiinity War both show undercurrents of want, for a variety of things, but she has it under control. She’s not, for example, giving Steve as much in Ultron as she gives Clint in Avengers, and that’s really interesting to just see.
It also makes me kind of reevaluate the Nat in my head, in that particular way that happens when it’s been almost two years since we got new canon and the most recent canon isn’t something rewatchable anyway because what’s the point of crying over Disney Plus when it doesn’t even feel cathartic. Like, I have absolutely internalized Nat’s breakdown with Steve, and have analyzed it to death and definitely integrated it into how I see her, but her crying in Endgame (which always feels to me like more of a Moment for her than her death, because yes, obviously she would sacrifice for the greater good, that’s always been Nat) is still jarring, because it feels out of context with what I think about her, even though obviously it’s canon and it’s part of who she is. The Nat in my head doesnt give herself permission to uglycry, and I can argue that’s because the text never showed us the steps of getting her there organically, but the more accurate answer is that it happens in canon and it’s our job to fill in those blanks and we’re supposed to infer that Nat became a person who would let herself give in to grief and that is so good and so important and why have I not spent more time thinking about that. Why is that not literally the only thing I ever think about.
Also I understand this is an unpopular opinion but Nat’s best hair is in IM2 and in Winter Soldier and I definitely had to take moments to be like gosh she’s pretty while I looked at these.
Also also ScarJo is about my age so she always looks Reasonably Adult to me in the moment but good lord, looking back? In IM2 she is a baby. She is a child and she has all these responsibilities and at that time she had already been raised by the Red Room, defected from the Red Room, rented her skills out to whoever would pay her best, almost died at Clint’s hand but accepted joining his org instead, joined SHIELD, and got high enough that Nick Fury trusts her. SHE IS A TINY MURDER BABY.
(When they filmed it, Scarlett was 24, which is only a few years older than Florence Pugh was when filming the Black Widow movie, although I don’t know how we’re calculating Yelena’s age yet and I’m guessing she’s older than Florence to make her closer to Nat’s age so them growing up together makes sense. But they are both babies.)
Anyway! I love Natasha a lot and I know I said this gifset is great but it’s actually kind of terrible because it makes me want to rewatch all the movies Nat was in even though that will only lead to more pain.

FATWS ep 4: The Whole World is Watching
I sobbed through the end credits.
They’re really, actually going there.
We had such good reason not to trust a fucking Disney property to go there. I think half of why I was crying was I was so surprised — I was grateful — that a piece of corporate media would make a nuanced and radical and open-hearted political point.
Sam Wilson actually got to say, out loud, that Karli Morgenthau has a point.
That moment in Civil War when Steve holds the shield over Tony’s head, pauses with this look in his eye, slams the shield down, and the camera pans out to show the shield through the arc reactor — I never believed Steve would hit Tony in the head with the shield, but I didn’t trust the corporations ultimately responsible for this content not to make him do it. The director of this show was clearly setting up shots specifically so we can make parallels gifsets here on tumblr dot com, Walker kicking in a door to Sam and Bucky’s hotel room like Steve kicked in a door at von Strucker’s castle in AOU, Walker pointing a gun over the shield like Steve did in his first Cap action scene in CATFA, probably others I’m not remembering right now. And then that hold-your-breath moment in Civil War. But John Walker took the serum, and he brutally murdered someone he considered an enemy combatant, who was retreating, out of vengeance.
The Avengers are called that, and in the movie with that name Tony says if they can’t defend the Earth they’ll avenge it, but Tony’s politics were always a big ball of yikes. Steve was never, ever about vengeance, not even against Nazis, not even against Thanos. Stop people from committing atrocities, absolutely, and with deadly force that Steve says in CATWS makes him not sleep so good sometimes, but only to stop the harm, never for revenge.
It makes me think of that quote, that white Americans are lucky that Black Americans just want equality and not revenge. I had to look it up: Kimberly Latrice Jones said this last summer, here’s the video, here’s a transcript. Here’s the full quote: “As far as I’m concerned, they could burn this bitch to the ground. And it still wouldn’t be enough. And they are lucky that what Black people are looking for is equality and not revenge.”
Sam Wilson and Karli Morgenthau have a lot in common. They had two one-on-one conversations about it. You could see on Karli’s face how devastated and overwhelmed and regretful she was over killing Lemar Hoskins. What Sam said to her wasn’t manipulation, he really believes everything he said, and she felt it, and those words are digging under her skin. There are two episodes left and I don’t think this is the last time these two people are going to have an honest conversation about all the ways the world’s power structures have used and ignored and failed them and what they could do together to change it.
Karli Morgenthau is a good person who is so desperate that she’s starting to do some very, very bad things.
Zemo is a terrible person, but he did a very, very good thing in destroying that serum.
That moment the now-murdered Flag Smasher and Karli had over his grandfather’s grave is the crux of the whole thing: it’s rare for good and bad to be clear-cut. There’s even an argument to be made that the vengeful way the Allies tried to extract financial reparations from Germany following WWI created the environment Nazis arose from.
Good people making hard choices in a fucked-up world is why I fell in love with Steve Rogers ten years ago, and why I love Sam Wilson, and why I love CATWS, and they are really. fucking. going. there. with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Before I make myself cry again, I’ll leave y’all with this list of gifsets I desperately want to reblog the shit out of following this episode:
the Dora Milaje beating Walmart Cap’s ass
one of Ayo’s fellow soldiers (what is her name??) kicking the shield up off the floor and holding it (oh my GOD I jumped up off my couch and shouted)
actually every single moment Ayo or any other Dora Milaje was on screen
Karli Morgenthau and Sarah Wilson parallels
“She’s just a kid”: Wanda made a devastating mistake in CACW and Steve was right to say it then; Karli made a devastating mistake in the last episode and another one in this one and Sam is right to say it now

Robert Week 2020 Day 3: Family A family dinner goes awry when revelations about the Sugden brothers' past come to light.
FYI, this is set in a slightly AU version of husbands era where Andy returned at some point and is living in Emmerdale again (I brought Adam back too, because why not).
Also, this fic refers to an old storyline that I must have watched but have no real memory of, considering how long ago it aired. So I've had to rely on gifsets and the Emmerdale Wiki, which you can see here:
https://emmerdale.fandom.com/wiki/Stephen_Butler https://isabellaofparma.tumblr.com/post/176241877331 https://robsugdens.tumblr.com/post/176241303211/i-didnt-have-it-easy
On a warm Saturday evening in August, the Sugdens and their other halves all gather round Diane’s table for their tea. Family time still isn’t a particularly common occurrence for them, but Diane and Victoria insist on it every now and then, and they mostly manage to get through the odd meal without any drama these days.
So as Aaron sits in his usual spot next to Robert and Seb, he doesn’t expect much more from the next couple of hours than some small talk with his in-laws over homemade shepherd’s pie and apple crumble.
Andy and Victoria are both in a nostalgic mood, it seems, tossing childhood memories back and forth as they eat. Nothing too heavy, thankfully, just funny – mostly farming-related – anecdotes from their youth.
At least, Andy, Vic, Diane and Doug seem to find them funny. Adam smiles and laughs easily along with them, but Aaron’s mostly left nonplussed. Honestly, the only thing getting him through it is the eye roll and small kill-me-now grin Robert shoots him whenever they catch each other’s eye. Aaron’s husband is clearly just as bored by the farm talk as he is, only chiming in when someone addresses him directly.
How many stories can you possibly tell about runaway cows, anyway?
As the first hour drags by and some of them start helping themselves to seconds, talk turns to Butlers farm and how the Sugdens had come to take it over back in the day.
“Who were the actual Butlers, anyway?” Adam asks, shovelling a forkful of mashed potato in his mouth. “Don’t think my mum ever said when we moved in there.”
“Just a bloke who was getting too old to keep up with things,” Andy replies with a shrug. “Will or Wilf, I think. And he had a son, too, about our age, right Rob?”
Robert nods as he wipes Seb’s mouth (he’s going through an incredibly messy phase of insisting on feeding himself) but doesn’t add anything.
“Drawing a blank on his name, though – ”
“Steve,” Robert interrupts quietly, turning back to his plate.
“Oh yeah, that’s it,” Andy snaps his fingers as the memory comes back to him. “Steve… dunno what happened to him. We were mates for a bit but he moved away in the end. We’d fallen out, can’t remember why but – ”
Robert’s scoff cuts Andy off. Everyone pauses and turns to him as he finally lifts his head to stare at a confused-looking Andy.
“What?”
“Are you kidding me?” Robert asks incredulously.
Victoria tenses and glances warily between the two of them. “What’s the matter, Robert?”
“Yeah, what’s your problem?” Andy says with a frown.
“You seriously don’t remember what happened with Steve?”
“No… ” Andy’s bewilderment is quickly turning to annoyance. “Who cares, it was like, a million years ago. Do you remember everyone you fell out with when we were kids? Saying that, it’d be a pretty long list for you, wouldn’t it?”
“Boys, come on now,” Doug rumbles quietly. “Let’s not spoil the evening.”
Robert stays silent, but Aaron can see he’s biting the inside of his jaw. A telltale sign that he’s upset but trying to keep it together. He rests a hand on Robert's tense thigh under the table, ready to jump in to his defence if needed.
“Well, share with the class,” Andy drawls, ignoring Doug’s words with the beginnings of a smirk. Aaron has no idea what this is about, but he wants to punch it off his face. “What was it, then?”
Robert hesitates, eyes darting to Seb – who’s thankfully still oblivious to the tension – before shaking his head and stabbing at his food with his fork.
“What, nothin’ to say?”
“No.”
“Maybe we should just change the – ” Diane begins, but Andy speaks over her.
“No, come on, he’s started now. Spit it out, Rob, whatever it is that's got your back up.”
“I said no.”
No one else at the table would have caught it, but Aaron hears the wobble in Robert’s voice. He tightens the hand on his husband's thigh, trying to keep him calm, remind him that he's not alone at the table.
“What d’you bring it up for, then?” Andy isn’t taking no for an answer, apparently, and he’s starting to get on Aaron’s last nerve.  “God, you always do this, always have to turn everything into some big drama, don't you? Come on, what was it that was so bad that – ”
“You found out Steve was gay,” Robert cuts Andy off, voice low but unmistakably clear.
Silence rings over the table as everyone freezes on the spot. Adam’s fork hovers in the air for a moment, before he sets it back on the plate with a clatter.
“Or, you heard rumours that he was gay, from that Ali kid. I dunno if he actually was, but that was good enough for you. You heard the rumours, you believed them – started passing them on to other people too, if I remember right – and after that, you wanted nothing to do with him.”
Aaron’s heart is thumping loudly in his chest, a familiar anger and defensiveness – for Robert, for himself, for this Steve kid – surging through him like wildfire. He watches Andy open his mouth uncertainly before closing it again, the irritation vanished from his face and replaced with shock. He looks like a deer caught in headlights.
“I asked you what the big deal was, why you cared so much if Steve was gay,” Robert continues with an air of apparent nonchalance, though Aaron knows better than to fall for the act, he knows Robert's fuming. Hurting.
“You said he shouldn’t have kept it hidden from everyone, you had a right to know what sort of person you’d been hanging out with. You were also very keen to make sure everyone else knew that just because you’d spent time with him, that didn’t make you ‘queer’, as you put it.”
Diane and Doug both look on uncomfortably, while Victoria brings a hand to her mouth in shock.
“Andy, you didn’t… ” she whispers with wide eyes. Adam lays a hand on her shoulder, looking almost as taken aback by the situation as her.
“I… ” Andy flounders helplessly, head whipping to his sister then back to Robert.
“Steve ended up moving away from the village in the end,” Robert finishes, pushing his plate away and tossing his napkin on to the table. “I guess all the shit he got over it – the name-calling and bullying – became too much for him to cope with, so he got the hell out of there. And no one ever mentioned him again.”
“Robert… ”
“Any of this ringing any bells for you, Andy?”
Andy gulps loudly before giving the slightest of nods.
“I – I forgot.”
“That’s nice for you,” Robert lets out a hollow laugh, before abruptly pushing his chair back with a loud scrape. “Sorry Diane, dinner’s been great but I don’t really fancy pudding. Lost my appetite.”
He scoops Seb out of his high chair and strides out of the room with a backward glance. Aaron rises quickly, muttering his thanks to Diane for the meal and following him, only stopping to throw a hard glare back in Andy’s direction. When Andy’s eyes meet his, he cringes and shrinks back in his seat.
Good.
*
“S’been a while since I’ve sat in on some proper Sugden drama,” Aaron say lightly, passing Robert a brew and Seb his sippy cup of juice.
Robert lets out a small huff but doesn’t speak, silently watching Seb playing with his toy cars on the rug. He hasn’t said much of anything since they left Diane’s and Aaron hasn’t pushed him. Not until now, anyway.
Careful not to spill their teas, he sinks onto the sofa and nudges Robert gently, raising a questioning eyebrow at him. Robert glances at him before sighing heavily.
“Probably gonna get an earful off Diane later,” he eventually mutters. “Causin’ a scene, spoiling a family meal again.”
“Somehow I don’t think she’ll blame you for this one. And if she does, she’ll have me to deal with.”
That gets him a tiny smile, at least.
“Gonna tell her off, are you?”
“I ain’t scared of her.”
Robert chuckles and leans into him, taking a slow sip of his tea. They sit in companionable silence for a few moments, before Robert begins to speak.
“I know Andy doesn’t have a problem with me, with you and me. I know he doesn’t think like that anymore, I wouldn’t speak to him if he did,” he says quietly. “We were just kids, and kids can be idiots, I get it. It’s just – it’s the fact that he didn’t even remember. To him it was clearly just a stupid bit of teenage drama, it didn’t mean anything. He probably never even gave it a second thought after Steve was gone. Whereas I… ”
Robert trails off, blinking rapidly and looking frustrated. Aaron reaches over to lace their fingers together, squeezing gently.  As out and proud as his husband is now, it's still difficult for him to talk about his sexuality sometimes, about all the time he spent in hiding it.
“That day,” Robert eventually continues. “When Andy said all that stuff about not wanting to hang out with Steve anymore, I thought I was gonna be sick there and then. The way he acted like it was the most disgusting thing he’d ever heard… I don’t think I got a wink of sleep that night. I just lay there in bed, picturing Andy’s face if he ever found out about – about me. If he knew what Dad knew.”
He sets his mug down and pinches the bridge of his nose.
“It wasn’t like I’d been about to come out or anything, this was a couple of years after Dad… you know.”
Aaron nods wordlessly, feeling the hatred he’d carried for Jack Sugden ever since he learnt about that day bubble rapidly to the surface.
“I’d already buried the fact that I liked boys, I'd decided I was just gonna pretend it wasn’t there. But – but hearing Andy say all that stuff about Steve, the way he reacted to even the possibility that his mate was… It was like like the final nail in the coffin, y’know?” Robert’s bottom lip wobbles as he shakes his head, sounding so resigned.
“I knew then, that I could never tell him. Or my friends, or anyone in this stupid village. Any hope I’d had, deep down, that being myself might be... I don’t know, not accepted but… tolerated, maybe? It pretty much died that day.”
Sometimes, Aaron is reminded of just how drastically things in Emmerdale have changed in recent times. His adolescence and Robert’s were only a few years apart; on paper the time seems like nothing. But the reality is that in terms of mindset and attitude, things couldn’t have been more different for the two of them.
He remembers the fear, the absolute terror of others finding out the truth about him all too well. But once he was out, once the dust settled and everyone knew… apart from the odd snide comment from some tosser he didn’t even know, people were fine with it. His family, Victoria, Adam, Ryan, Holly… none of them cared, no one saw him any differently. If anything, he became closer to nearly every person around him.
The fact that Robert not only believed that the opposite would happen to him, but basically had actual confirmation of it played out right before his eyes, breaks Aaron's heart.
He puts down his own mug so he can pull Robert into him and tuck him under his chin, Robert’s arms circling his waist as he buries his face into Aaron's chest.
“I love you,” he murmurs into his husband’s hair, hands stroking softly. “You deserved better.”
Robert clutches him tighter.
*
Later that night, Adam texts him while Robert’s in the shower.
so that was fun
Aaron readjusts a sleepy Seb in his lap so he can reply.
What happened after we left? Andy say anything?
not much. diane and vic gave him an earful, he left pretty sharpish. looked proper ashamed of himself too. vic’s been going spare ever since, i’ve had to stop her from going to yours 3 times. u both ok?
We’re fine. Tell Vic that Rob’s alright, I’ve got him
will do. night mate
*
“Well, you’ve got balls, I’ll give you that.” Is the only thing Aaron says when he opens the front door to Andy the next morning, folding his arms across his chest.
Andy shuffles awkwardly on the welcome mat, a hand coming up to scratch his bushy beard.
“Is Robert here?”
“Yes.”
He doesn’t step aside to let Andy in. When Andy realises that Aaron isn’t budging, he sighs heavily, shoulders slumped.
“Look Aaron, I uh… ” He clears his throat. “I’m sorry."
“Not me you need to apologise to.”
“No, I know, but I just wanted to say that I was a right idiot back then, really stupid. Ignorant. And I’m – I’m not proud of it, but I don’t want you thinking I’m still like that because – ”
“I don’t think you’re like that,” Aaron cuts him off.
“…Yeah?”
“You wouldn’t still be standing here if I did.”
Andy pauses and blinks, face twisting nervously.
“Right, well uh… good, I’m glad. So… can I…?” He gestures to the inside of the house.
“Wait here.”
He closes the door in Andy’s face (not exactly necessary, but he takes some petty pleasure in it) and walks through the living room to the back door, stepping out into bright sunshine and the sound of splashing and laughter.
Seb’s playing in his paddling pool in the garden, happy as a clam, while Robert sprawls on the grass beside it, occasionally passing him one of the bath toys they’d brought down to the garden. The front of his t-shirt is absolutely drenched.
“Alright?” He asks as Aaron approaches.
“Andy’s here. Asking for you.”
Robert stiffens, grin dropping off his face.
“Want me to send him packing?”
There’s a long pause, before Robert sighs and shakes his head. “No… suppose he can come through.”
Aaron returns to the front door and beckons Andy, leading him to the back garden.
“Andy!” Seb cries when he spots them. “Pool!”
“Wow, look at this!” Andy calls as he steps closer. For all his and Robert's issues, he adores Seb. “You havin’ fun, mate?”
Seb nods vigorously, his damp sunhat bouncing on his head as he smacks his hands into the water. Robert tilts his head up to stare at Andy.
“Alright?” Andy tries for a hopeful smile, which Robert doesn’t return, instead refocusing his gaze on Seb.
“Can we have a quick chat?”
Robert passes Seb a rubber duck.
“Rob, come on,” Andy pleads, looking down at him imploringly.
Robert rolls his eyes, before pushing himself up and wiping his palms on his shorts.
“Can you – ?” He asks Aaron, gesturing to Seb.
“Course.” Aaron gives Robert’s wrist a brief squeeze as he passes him, before settling down next to the paddling pool, flicking some water in Seb’s face to make him laugh.
As he plays with his son, he keeps an eye on the two brothers, watching as they walk to the deckchairs at other end of the garden, sitting sideways on them so they’re facing each other.
Aaron can’t make out exactly what’s being said, not over the sound of Seb’s splashing and yelling, but neither of them look angry, which is a good sign. He just hopes Jack’s name doesn’t come up, otherwise that could all change in a heartbeat.
Andy’s doing most of the talking, elbows resting on his bouncing knees as he leans towards Robert. The expression on his face is uncomfortable but earnest, as he offers what is clearly an apology – Aaron doesn’t need to hear them to know that much. It makes a change; Aaron’s never known anyone so keen to deny any wrongdoing as Andy Sugden – especially when it comes to Robert and their childhood.
Robert keeps his face blank, sitting ramrod straight and staring somewhere past Andy’s shoulder as he listens. But as Andy continues speaking, his face begins softens a little and he eventually begins talking back quietly. Andy fidgets and looks down, but he doesn’t interrupt except to nod occasionally, replying only when Robert finishes speaking. It’s probably the most the Sugden brothers have communicated in years.
Aaron wishes he could lipread. Or that he had a slightly quieter child.
“Daddy!” Seb cries for his attention, hitting him in the chest with a plastic bucket.
“Oh, sorry mate, did you want a shower?” He fills the bucket with water and tips it all over Seb’s head until every inch of him is dripping, causing him to shriek loudly.
“That’s what you get,” Aaron laughs at the indignant expression on his son’s face, before glancing up to see Robert and Andy have stopped talking in favour of watching the scene fondly.
Andy stands and stretches. “I should get going, then,” he says to Robert, who stands to follow him.
“Stay for a bit if you like? We’ve got lemonade in the fridge, lots of ice.”
“Nah, you’re alright. I’m taking Sarah shopping soon,” he claps Robert on the shoulder. “Another time, though?”
“Okay, yeah.”
“I’ll see myself out.” Andy leans down to tickle Seb under the chin. “Enjoy your pool, Seb.”
He starts walking across the grass, before pausing and turning back to them.
“Rob?”
“Yeah?”
“You – you’re my brother,” Andy chews his lip, looking serious. “My family. Family’s supposed to rely on each other, and I made you feel like you couldn’t. I really am sorry.”
There’s a long silence as Robert stares at him, unmoving. For a moment, Aaron thinks he isn’t going to say anything back, and then –
“S’okay, Andy. It’s forgotten.”
“Okay,” Andy nods, sounding relieved. “Oh, and please let Vic know that I’ve spoken to you, will you? Before she castrates me.”
Robert’s mouth twitches. “Can’t have that. I’ll let her know.”
“Cheers. See you, Rob. Aaron.”
Andy takes his leave, shoving his hands in his pockets and disappearing around the corner of the house.
Robert sinks down onto the grass next to Aaron and lets out a long breath.
“Okay?” Aaron asks.
“Yeah.”
“You sure?”
Robert smiles and presses a kiss to the side of his head. “I’m fine. We talked, it was good.”
That’s probably the most Aaron’s going to get out of him, for now at least, so he smiles back and snakes an arm around his waist. If Robert’s good, then he’s good.
“D’you want me to get the drinks from the – hey!” Robert splutters when he’s cut off by Seb chucking a bucketful of water in his face, giggling madly when he hits his target with impressive accuracy.
“Good aim, kid,” Aaron grins, ruffling Seb’s soaked hair.

Driving to Steve’s house was like second nature to Jess, but she didn’t think she’d ever be doing it again. There she was, though. She was on her way to talk to the boy who broke her heart, and she felt like a fool. It wasn’t like she meant for this to happen, she didn’t mean to come crawling back to Steve, but it happened. Jess couldn’t help but think that she had done it to herself, that she had put herself into the situation by telling him that she couldn’t stop loving him. She couldn’t help herself anymore, she needed answers and if those answers weren’t what she wanted to hear, then she needed closure.
An incessant knocking on the front door of the Harrington residence was the last thing that Steve expected on a Sunday at nine in the morning. When he first heard it, he groaned softly and shoved his head under a pillow to drone out the sound. It didn’t work, though. The pounding didn’t stop for the whole minute that he laid beneath the warm covers, so he decided to answer just to get them to shut up. He wanted nothing more than to stay in his bed and sulk all day, the words that Jess had whispered to him the night before replaying in his mind as he did. He didn’t think that he’d ever be opening the front door to his house to see Jess on the other side again, but here he was.
“Steve.” she said shakily. “We need to talk.”
“Oh—uh—alright. Come on in.” he offered nervously, studying the way she still seemed so hesitant about him.
She came in without saying anything and sat on the couch, in the same spot she had sat in when she came to confront him just weeks before. This time seemed different, though. She didn’t seem to be holding any anger, but there was a certain sadness in the way she was holding herself together. Jess seemed to be on the brink of tears, but she didn’t really even know why.
“Jess.” Steve called after a moment, realizing that she had spaced out and was about to break down in front of him.
“Right—Sorry.” she said, shaking her head to snap herself back to reality. “I—I came here to talk to you about us.”
“Us?” he questioned hesitantly, unsure of what she meant. “As in?”
“Me and you, Steve. What we were.” she retorted, resentment in her voice as she used the past tense. “I’ve had my time to cope, to deal with the emotions that I was feeling. I—I know I wasn’t ready to listen when I came here that day that I found out, I was just so upset.”
“And you had every right to be upset.” he said while walking to the couch, sitting a safe distance away from her. “You still do.”
“I know I did.” Jess said with narrowed eyes, making him recoil a little further away from her. “But that doesn’t mean that I had the right to not listen to you.”
“What?” Steve asked, brow furrowed as he stared at her from afar.
“I never really let you explain the situation or let you tell your side of the story, I guess.” she shrugged. “I was just so mad at you and I couldn’t even think to let you explain what happened. I believed that you were only out to hurt me.”
“I didn’t want to hurt you, I really didn’t. I know it doesn’t seem like it, and I know I fucked up. But, I wouldn’t do this to hurt you.” he explained, words coming out a little more struggled than he’d wanted. “I didn’t know what was happening, honestly. I know that sounds like the stupidest excuse ever, it does. I hear how stupid it sounds every time I say it. But, I thought it was you. The voice, the hair, everything to drunk me was the same.”
She didn’t realize that there were tears sliding down her cheeks until one of them dripped onto her hand. She couldn’t help but believe what he was saying, he sounded so sincere. And he was, he was as truthful as he could be in the moment. The night was pretty blurry to him, but he could clearly remember how he knew he’d fucked up after he’d done it.
“When Tina barged into that bedroom.” he started painfully, unable to look up at her as she stared over at him. “I had stopped that girl, whoever the hell it actually was, from kissing me again. When we were in the living room, it was dark and loud and I swore to God that it was you. I even asked her why she wasn’t watching El—like I knew you were that night—and she just said she wanted to see me, or something like that. Then—Then she led me to the bedroom and was kissing me and I could tell—I could just fucking tell that it wasn’t you, it wasn’t your lips. I don’t remember much else but I remember her kissing me right before Tina came in, and I tried to stop her. I knew as soon as Tina came in that I had fucked up, and that I was going to lose you.”
There was something in Steve’s voice that made her fold, it made her finally break. In all of the time that they’d been apart, Jess had told herself that she was strong and that she could get over it, that it wasn’t worth her tears. Sure, she’d cried about it, but never for more than a moment. This time was different, though. Jess knew she couldn’t hold back anymore, she’d been strong for too long.
Steve didn’t know what to do when he heard the first whimper slip from her lips, he thought he was imagining it at first. Jess Hopper was the type to never cry over anything, her dad had taught her that nothing so arbitrary was worth her tears anymore, especially after everything they had gone through. But, this time, she was too broken to hold back. Seeing the tears stream down her face as a small sob wracked her body broke Steve’s heart, but he knew he deserved to have his heart broken like he’d done to her.
“Jess, I—“ he started, but the look she gave him as he opened his mouth told him that he had said enough.
“I tried to hate you. I fucking tried, I really did. I wanted to resent you for what you’ve done to me. But, I just—I just fucking couldn’t.” she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she struggled to choke down her sobs. “I wanted to believe that you were just trying to hurt me and break my heart, but I knew that wasn’t you. I knew that wasn’t the Steve Harrington that I fell in love with. I knew there was something else to the story, I was just too mad to even hear it.”
“You deserved to let me die with my truth, honestly. I didn’t deserve time to explain what happened. I shouldn’t have put myself in that situation, I don’t expect you to forgive me for this, Jess.” he said softly, moving a little closer to where she sat.
“I—I know. I’m not forgiving you, Steve.” she said softly, shaking her head at her own voice. “I just—I don’t know. There’s something that keeps bringing me back to you. I’ve tried to tell myself that you broke my heart so many times, but I can’t stop thinking about us, what we had.”
“I don’t—I don’t think I understand what you mean.” Steve said carefully, easing into his words as he spoke.
“I’m not just gonna say that I forgive you and that I’ll forget everything that happened. That’s not what this is, because I don’t believe you’ve earned that.” she started, he nodded feverishly in reply. “But, fuck, Steve. I miss you. I—I miss seeing you all the time and I miss us.”
“I know, Jess. I’ve missed you too.” he sighed, watching as she sniffled and wiped her tears from her eyes. “But, what are you trying to say?”
“I guess I’m trying to say that we can start over. I can do second chances, everyone deserves one.” she said wearily, a sad smile on her lips. “I’m trying to say that I want you in my life and—and that maybe we can work this out together.”
“I mean, if that’s what you want, Jess. I’m willing to do whatever you want.” he said, trying not to sound too excited as his heart skipped a beat. “Are you sure that’s what you want to do?”
“Yeah, I think so.” she sighed, finally looking up at him with a nervous look on her face. “Don’t make me regret my decision, Steve.”
So they tried, and tried, and tried to make things work again. Steve worked his ass off to be the best that he could be and to make sure that he didn’t slip up. They started out slow, by only seeing each other every other day and doing so in small sittings. Jess didn’t know why she decided that, but it probably had something to do with her fear of arguing with him.
Some days were better than others, that’s for sure. Steve would bring her food or take her some new place every time they’d hang out, trying to make things like they used to be. Jess seemed to be happier now, but there was still something holding her back from being the real her. Of course, Steve knew what it was, but was afraid to mention it for the sake of saving them from more arguments.
Her heart was tugging her in two directions every time they were together. She wanted to be in his arms and let him back into her life without hesitancy, but she knew she couldn’t. Steve could see the struggle hidden in her eyes whenever they were together, he always saw right through her facade. It was killing him honestly, seeing her hide her conflict from him all the time. But he’d made so much progress that he didn’t want to fuck anything up again, so he stayed quiet.
Steve stayed quiet for weeks, for as long as he could muster being in the dark. Really, she was testing his patience to see how long he could hold out without trying to comfort her; she didn’t want to talk about what happened and he knew that. The day that he decided that he was going to bring up the situation again, she had come out of the cabin with tears in her eyes. She slammed the front door shut and wiped her cheeks quickly, giving him a sad smile as she walked towards the car. A sigh of frustration escaped her lips as she swung the car door open and shut, but Steve didn’t dare to ask what was wrong yet. He was on the verge of taking back his decision to ask her about their relationship at this point.
“Steve.” she said as he pulled out of the driveway, making him snap his attention in her direction to see an all-too-sudden change of expression on her face. “Let’s go to the quarry."
“I thought we were going to that movie—“ he started.
“Fuck the movie. I want to go to the quarry, please?” she pleaded, more than a hint of desperation in her voice as she spoke. “I just wanna get away for a little bit.”
“Alright, but it’s on you if your dad gets mad about it.” he agreed teasingly, making her lip quirk up slightly.
Most of their times at the quarry were in the middle of the night and spent getting drunk or high and making out in the backseat of the BMW, but this time was different. Neither of them could stomach the thought of drinking again, not after what had happened. As much as they’d both rather be making out in the backseat of Steve’s car, they both knew they couldn’t, not after what had happened. The sun was setting when they pulled into their usual spot, it seemed like a completely different place now. Jess pulled him out of his seat and onto the hood of the car, insisting that they watched the sunset together.
The silence between them was peaceful, for once. There was no resentment and pain in the air anymore, things finally seemed to be changing for the better. They watched the sun slip behind the trees on the other side of the quarry, stars littering the sky as the moon replaced the sun. Steve could tell that Jess was thinking hard about something. He wasn’t sure if he really wanted to know what it was, but he knew that it probably had to do with him. It seemed like they were finally going to talk about what was going on, wether he wanted to or not.
“My dad and I got into a fight today.” Jess finally admitted, leaning back on the hood of the car to stare at the stars beginning to show up in the sky. “He told me that I’m making a big mistake.”
Steve’s heart sunk as she spoke, he didn’t even need her to finish her thought to know exactly what he was talking about. He was the big mistake, and he knew it. Jess was staring at the sky, trying to collect her thoughts as she held herself together. She could tell by the way that Steve was holding tension in himself, that he knew exactly what she meant. He was bracing himself for her to finally break it off, for her to finally tell him that he could go fuck himself and that she was just trying to break his heart like he had done to her. But, she knew better than to do that to him. He’d tried so hard at winning her over once again and she could tell he’d become frustrated recently with their lack of progress.
“He asked me if I thought that you deserved to be happy, if I thought that you were even worth the pain I was going through.” she started, taking a deep breath as she blinked away a few tears. “I said yes. I told him that I can’t hate you for what happened, especially after what you told me. He told me he wasn’t going to support my decision, but that he’d still let me make my own decisions, make my own mistakes.”
He only nodded and smiled weakly at her as he leaned back to prop himself onto his elbows, looking up at the stars with her. Relief started to rush through him, but he knew he couldn’t be completely relieved yet.
“I think about what things would’ve been like if this wouldn’t have happened a lot. But then I remember that that’s something we’ll never know. And that I need to stop thinking about the what if’s.” she sighed, rolling her head over to look at him. “We need to work together if this is going to work, and I’m sorry I’ve been holding back.”
“Why are you sorry, Jess?” Steve questioned, feeling her hand graze against his as she inched closer to him.
“Because I shouldn’t be so conflicted about this whole situation. I’ve been getting scolded for going back to you, but I shouldn’t be so sorry for still—“ she said, stopping herself before she could say she loved him, he hadn’t earned that privilege yet and he knew it. “I shouldn’t be so sorry for wanting to save what we had. And before I start to overthink my decisions anymore, I wanna do this.”
Before Steve could comprehend what was happening, Jess had snaked her hand around his neck and pulled him down into a kiss. It was soft and reserved, much different than any kiss the couple had ever shared. It was sad in a way, but there was hope in the air again. Their hearts were finally healing, but they were nowhere near done on their journey. That extremely fine line was getting easier to navigate now that they were on the same page, it would be easier to fall back in love again and they both knew it.

3: Pick your 5 favourite creations and explain what you love the most about them!
🖤 ok I know I bring this one of Max and Steve to the table every time I'm asked about my fave gifsets but I still just look at it in awe sometimes I love how it came out so much.
💜 this one of Dustin featuring Eddie, when I first got this song on the Spotify requests I didn't know how I was going to make it fit but I think I pulled it off (even if it hurts lol), I loved the effects of the film strip overlay and also how the colours came out on it.
🖤 this one featuring Nancy because the minute I discovered this song I knew it fit her to a tee.
💜 this yellowjackets gifset the song fits perfectly for them, the blending possibly someone of my finest and I love how the black white and red colours compliment each other.
🖤 and finally this Steve set, because who doesn't love a bewildered babygirl?
7: What is something you want to develop in your future creations?
I'd always say colour because it never feels like I get it as good as others sometimes but also maybe transitions and layouts more too.
10: An old creation that will always have a special place in your heart
see that's a tough decision right there because I've got 11, actually wait I think maybe 12 years of gifmaking under my belt and I can barely remember the gifsets I made in the last week lol, erm let's see (*spends forever scrolling through phone because I'm not on my desktop*) ah here we go, the year was 2014 and this chick just discovered how to use the selective colour layer in Photoshop to make her GIFs bright and bold and she had just got into the walking dead, I've come a long way since this gifset lol
14: A fandom you want to create more content for!
At the minute yellowjackets seeing as I'm rewatching it, I feel like me giffing stranger things though always outweighs everything else I try to get into giffing (hence why the other day I asked for requests outside of it lol)
22: A creation that was difficult to make (but worthwhile!)
I'm gonna cheat a little here and say the entirety of my 4k celebration GIFs, because it took me roughly 6 months to complete it, some of them taking up to a week to individually make because Photoshop hated me making these lol
34: Favourite individual gif from a set you’ve created!
I've got 2 faves that currently come to mind both from yellowjackets;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first is from one of my five faves above, I love how the water ripple effect came out, and second from my latest yellowjackets set I just really love how I managed to blend her face almost perfectly like that
50. Self-loving time: show us a creation you want your followers to see
if you haven't seen it already check out my latest gifset, a Steve parallel depicting just how smart our fave boy really is 😘
Ask me some creator questions 😉✨

Please please PLEASE write more about that Steggy AU with Peg pretending to be a "dumb blonde" - your addition to beautifulwhensarcastic's gifset gives me LIFE!!!
Omg I’m so glad you like it!!! I have a few more blurb ideas for it, but nothing enough to put it on ao3 just yet, so here’s a bit with how the story begins :) (and if anyone’s seeing this, the original bit I wrote was on this gifset by the wonderful @beautifulwhensarcastic!)
The transfer from her team at MI6 to the New York City task force was a demotion in all but name. She knew it, her last team knew it, and her new handler did as well.
“You don’t have to like the job, but you damn well better be good at it,” he said, handing the dossier to Peggy. Phillips was on the older side for their profession. Ex-military if she had to guess, and she had a knack for guessing right.
“A Brooklyn mobster with a penchant for dramatics?” she said as she scanned the top sheet. “Why hasn’t he gotten caught yet?”
Phillips tapped the heavy file in her hands. “He’s smart. Keep reading. I want you ready for deep cover in three days.”
She nodded, fingering through the document to get a quick feel for what to expect. “I’ll be ready in two.”
He waved a hand as he started walking away. “Take three. You’ll be there longer than you think.”
“I doubt it,” Peggy mumbled.
“Doubt it all you want,” he called back. “Doesn’t change the fact that he’s been avoiding a conviction for at least a decade’s worth of crimes.”
There would be something that she could use as an in, though. There always was. An insecurity, an employee with loose lips; all she needed to do was solve the puzzle of Steven Rogers, and she’d be back to her anti-terrorism team - and her office with glass walls and a view of the Thames - in no time.
She was confident through her debrief that it would only take a few months. By the time she’d gotten her hair and wardrobe readied she’d knocked her timeline down to three weeks at most.
The cover, Betty Carver, had a shoebox sized apartment in Brooklyn that was two blocks from where Steven Rogers seemed to be residing now, and she made sure to be at the bodega by his building during his weekly shop. It would be good to establish her presence early on, become familiar, trusted as a background character to his daily life.
That was the plan, anyway.
“That’s a lot of pasta for one person,” Rogers said, coming up next to her and picking up a box to look it over. He was standing a little too close, she noted. Clearly he was confident. Cocky. She could work with that.
“Pardon?” Peggy asked, putting on the out-of-towner, slightly southern drawl.
“Three boxes, and jarred tomato sauce?” He grinned. She could see why he’d been described as ‘charming’ by the last agent who tried to get close to him. That was in the last report he’d made before washing up on the banks of the east river. Rogers motioned to her basket. “You must live alone, huh?”
Peggy smiled demurely and bumped his shoulder with hers gently. He was warm, clearly well-toned under his misleading cardigan. “Isn’t that the kind of thing a respectable lady doesn’t answer?"
"I’m not in the business of knowing too many respectable ladies,” Rogers replied, and gave her a wink. He nudged her arm to get her attention as he turned toward the cashier. “Hey, Jimmy, put her groceries on my tab, eh?"
The man behind the counter lifted a hand but didn’t move from where he sat on a stool, flipping through a catalog.
"Oh, you don’t have to do that,” she said, making herself a little flustered.
“Seems like I do. You’re in that crappy apartment on Dekalb, right?”
“Aren’t there a lot of those?” Peggy said with an easy laugh, keeping her voice calm despite the inherent threat of him knowing where she lived.
“Not too many, now,” Steve said, his distaste at the idea of it evident in the way he lowered his voice. She’d read that in his file, that they suspected part of his motivation was anger at the gentrification of his home. He shook himself, stuck out his hand. “I’m Steve, by the way. Steve Rogers.”
“Betty,” she said, taking his hand and giving it a gentle shake.
“Betty,” he repeated, his voice all warmth. The name sounded dirty on his tongue. “You know, I don’t think it’s a coincidence we met today, Betty.”
“Oh?” Peggy asked, a pulse of adrenaline shooting through her. She smiled politely. “Why’s that?”
He put a few tomatoes in her basket, switching out the jars of sauce. “You gotta learn how to cook for yourself, now that you’re in Brooklyn. I’ll come by.” He inspected a head of garlic and dropped it next to the tomatoes. “Consider it your welcome to my neighborhood.”
She laughed lightly. “It can’t be all yours.”
He grinned back. “You’re new here. But you’ll learn.” He turned to go, waving to the man behind the counter and heading out with his groceries.
She watched him leave, feeling herself settle into Betty, the blonde who was going to flirt her way into Steven Rogers’ organization; it might take more than a few weeks after all.

10.01 thoughts (or basically a rambly recap, very spoilery, with a lot of caps lock abuse) under the cut!!! :D
JERRY’S BEEN SHOT. that’s not actually a surprise at this point in any way, but oh gosh, poor guy. “it hurts more than i thought it would.” oh no. :c
i’m confused though - grover’s there calling an ambulance, jerry is bleeding, steve is keeping pressure on the wound, but where’s danny? clutching his heart out of frame? OH WAIT he could be arresting ezra hassan, i suppose?
on screen: 2 weeks later. jfdkfjdk they resolved that cliffhanger in like, under thirty seconds.
love jerry’s longer curly hair! REALLY LOVE that jerry and junior are playing battleship, omg.
jerry thought about HIS DND BUDDIES WHEN HE GOT SHOT. i love him. (i’m also both worried about his mental health and glad they’re showing him actually feeling some repercussions from getting shot, aside from the flesh wound.)
tani and junior!!! are going to the opera!!! wonderful, i’m into it.
AH. here we have steve on his date, omfg. it all looks so pretty - the background, the restaurant, the date, steve. REALLY AWKWARD conversation though, fjdkfd. steve’s been hanging with danny too much - as soon as someone asks “what are you thinking” he just opens up his heart.
“it’s just crazy, you know. things that happen at work.” FDJKFDJF i’m glad he’s seeing that AFTER NINE YEARS.
DANNY CALLS. i’ve seen the clips that were drifting around tumblr, so i knew it was going to happen, but still. DANNY CALLS. IN THE MIDDLE OF STEVE’S DATE.
“i think it’s best,” steve says, about taking a phone call from danny while he’s in the middle of a first date with a really pretty woman who seems very kind about his total awkwardness, oh BOY
the WAY danny says “hi” just already has me in stitches. i die. and then steve’s “dude! i don’t know.” he sounds so frustrated! poor guy.
“words are kinda just, they’re falling out of my mouth, i don’t know why.” OH STEVE. also: that’s 80% of all fic in which steve finally confesses his feelings to danny ever. thank you, canon, for giving us a steve who is canonically prone to this.
“do you have any game at all?” danny asks, of steve, WHO HE IS CALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF A DATE. the co-dependency here is HIGH and it’s probably unhealthy but i’m enjoying it a lot, truly.
okay so, steve says “you’ve called twice, we haven’t even ordered!” and then DANNY SAYS “if you answered my texts, i wouldn’t have to call” and that’s just ALL SO BAD. they are TERRIBLE together and that woman should probably run far away.
danny! way to build up steve’s confidence on this date by telling him his thing is awkward and messing things up, holy shit.
I’M SCREAMING. “that was danny. who i love. very much.” I AM YELLING. YES. GOOD. PREMIUM CONTENT.
just. i love “i love you”s, okay. i love them. we got one (1) in s9 at the end of 9.01, but we’re off to a good start now in 10.01, with steve telling his frigging date that he loves danny, oh my.
IT GOT WORSE. i paused like, in the middle of steve’s sentence, and then as soon as i hit play the date said “sounds like my ex” and steve says “you know, it’s funny that you say that, because it’s kind of like a marriage” and uh, hello steve, i made a gifset about that the day before yesterday, thank you for giving me an update, but also just. wtf. wtf holy shit
i. i just. this is supposedly steve on a date with a woman being all heterosexual, but it’s really an extremely mcdanno scene, like ten times more than i was prepared for, wow.
real talk though, i’m almost certain this relationship isn’t going anywhere, but this woman seems really cool!!! i love her so far.
tani is actually enjoying the opera and junior seems to be paying more attention to her than the stage and i have no idea if this is actually an officially official date between them or if they’re still “just friends”, but it’s all so cute. and then, of course, some anonymous guy shows up with a sketchy briefcase that’s inevitably going to contain weapons, but oh well, it was nice for how long it lasted.
a slightly updated intro!!! katrina law is already in it (which i like) and the new group shot is kind of crowded but really nice, but fjdkfdjkdf they chose a really awkward moment where adam is supposedly typing something on the tech table but he’s REALLY OBVIOUSLY just randomly tapping his fingers on it. that’s going to haunt me. oh dear show runners, why.
danny... says steve was blowing his date, as they arrive on the crime scene that junior and tani found, and steve says he has a second date and danny goes “you got a second date?” incredulously and almost dismayed and that just really sounds like he WANTED steve to blow it. what is this, danny, setting steve up with a pretty woman from steve’s school to test him? see if he’ll say no and fall in your arms instead, and when he doesn’t, you’re disappointed?
even the lighting in this random stairwell gun fight chase scene is kind of pretty! the blue and red? i like it.
oh NO, steve, you’re not even ten minutes into a new season and you’re chasing some suicidally parcouring bad guy across roof tops and into a jump that’s REALLY going to give danny a heart attack, jesus.
fdjkfd danny telling steve that ten years ago he would’ve made that jump? telling him he’s forty? i’m not sure if that’s kind of mean or really good, but it might be both.
plot stuff happens, but i keep getting distracted by all the grey in steve’s beard and his new, longer hair. it’s good.
i like quinn’s introduction!!! i really do, more than i’d expected. and honestly, that déjà vu thing lenkov was talking about is very faint to me, to the point where it’s mostly just there because danny says it out loud in the text and then forcibly makes it so. they’re not in steve’s garage, it’s the wrong car they’re standing next to, there are three people instead of two and there’s no “one, two, three” and showing badges, but steve yeets his badge over the windshield of the car in quinn’s direction. the similarity isn’t that strong.
danny going “i gotta follow him” about steve and “i don’t know [shrugs]” about where they’re going is beautiful.
i’m about halfway through the episode now and steve and danny have spent SO MUCH time together and it’s really good but also has me slightly worried that they’re pushing all the steve&danny content for the entire season in one episode, omg. it’s good, though. i’m happy for now.
adam is still doing yakuza stuff. i get it, because it’s the one big thing they’ve given his character, but i do get kind of tired of it. he’s supposedly out, but every time they need it for plot reasons, he still has connections somewhere that are willing to help him for whatever reason.
and then quinn shows up and pulls a gun on adam, fjdkfd. listen, i know i said i was getting tired of him doing the yakuza thing over and over, but shooting him would be a little drastic.
danny: “this is good, we’re chasing a monster truck. that’s totally normal, right?” how is it that NOW they’re both suddenly realizing their lives are kind of crazy? they weren’t crazy before, guys? guys??
HAH, the guy in the truck drives over a dozen cars. that’s ridiculous, but a lot of fun, omg.
danny, when he finds tani and quinn in the same room at hq: “oh good, you two have met.” YES. MY SENTIMENTS. except i’m perhaps a little more exuberant about it. TWO MAIN FEMALE CHARACTERS IN ONE SCENE YES GOOD I LIKE THIS. we haven’t had this since... season 4, maybe? when catherine was briefly part of the team?
oh SHIT. danny: “are you sure you’re not related to steve in any way?” okay SO. we’re all assuming quinn is steve’s new love interest, but quinn being steve’s secret half sister somehow? also nonsense, but nonsense i’d like. and i mean, they need to keep the mcgarrett family drama alive somehow, so this could be fun.
quinn: “can’t this thing go any faster? [steve looks at her weird] what?” steve: “nothing. just never had that complaint before.” that is a LIE. i know for a fact that that’s a lie, because i have a stupid amount of knowledge of h50 of the top of my head and one of the things i know is that in 8.01 tani pops up between steve and danny while she’s in the backseat of the camaro and ALSO asks if it doesn’t go any faster. i know what they’re going for here, setting quinn and steve up as equals, and i like what they’re trying to tell us about quinn as a character in theory but come on, if you’re trying to convince us steve is all impressed by this woman that you might be setting him up with romantically, at least do some continuity fact checking on your own show, guys.
anyway! i do like that it’s canon that all women in five-0 think the camaro isn’t fast enough. get wrecked, steve and danny, HA.
when steve said to the bad guy “my friend lou here is going to put some handcuffs on you” i thought at first that he said “liu”, as in quinn’s last name, and oh man, first they had tani and junior’s last names as rey and reigns, which was close enough, but now they have lou and liu, gosh.
!!! this talk between steve and quinn in front of kamekona’s?? i LIKE IT. A LOT. we get to know a little more about quinn and steve genuinely does treat her as an equal and a capable colleague and there’s nothing especially romantic about this, which is good this early on even if they’re doing that later because i do feel like it could possibly work but right now it would just be really weird and very forced and i’m just really relieved that’s the dynamic they’re going for. this, this is good.
OH BOY. “we’re breaking up with you, danny” steve says. i... wow.
FAIR THOUGH. it’s probably a REALLY GOOD idea of steve to maybe involve danny a little less in his dating life if he wants to, well, actually have one that’s viable for life, but oh GOSH. danny going “you can’t cut me out” when steve tells him this? danny is just. so interested in steve’s romantic life, damn.
tani: “mom and dad are fighting again.” fdjkfdjk YES. this time it’s not even junior saying this to eddie behind steve and danny’s back, it’s just tani saying it out loud to the entire group and nobody says anything about it so uhhh that’s accepted fact then, within the team. GOOD.
ohhhh jerry is leaving. also not a real surprise and it’s probably kind of good that the team doesn’t endlessly keep growing if quinn joins this season, but ahh, i’m sad, anyway.
GROUP HUG. i love EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS.
oh gooood, somebody put a bomb in the champ box in steve’s garage. that’s harsh.
final thoughts: i LIKED THIS. very much!!! i’m relieved about that, tbh, because at least i’m happy about the start of the season, which seems like a good sign, haha. i love quinn so far, there was REALLY GREAT mcdanno stuff in this, i love that steve is dating again, tani and junior seem to be dating, jerry is fairly healthy and happy - all around lots of good stuff.
i do kind of think that cliffhanger from last season got extremely little attention (we didn’t even see ezra hassan get arrested, and what happened to her kid? where was danny? idk it was weirdly short and quick), but it’s still possible they’re coming back to that in a later episode, idk.

Extra Luggage
Modern AU!Peggy/Steve/Bucky x Reader Assumed female reader Word Count: 1473 This took me a heckin year and a half to write but here we are. This was inspired by this gifset by  @beautifulwhensarcastic
"Steve, when you said a getaway weekend, I imagined something slightly different," Peggy said.
"Why?" Steve asked, totally oblivious. She squinted her eyes at him and he took his eyes off the road for a moment to look at her. "It's a really nice cottage, I swear!" he promised, but still missing the point. "Pepper helped me find it."
"Yes, well, there's still one detail," she hinted.
"Are we there yet?" Bucky piped up from the back seat.
"Does it look like we're there yet?" Peggy snapped.
"No, ma'am," he replied, snapping to attention at the tone of her voice. "Can I get an estimate of how much longer we'll be on the road?"
Steve glanced down at the car's GPS for an ETA. "We still have a couple more hours," he said. "Hang in there."
"How 'bout I just take a nap instead?" Bucky suggested. "You can pretend like I'm not even here."
Peggy mumbled something under her breath that only Steve caught. Judging from his slightly shocked reaction, Bucky guessed that he didn't want to know what she had said.
She stared determinedly out the window, watching the minimal scenery slowly creep up to the car, then pass it in a flash.
Gentle snoring came from the back seats in a matter of minutes, and Peggy finally felt free to speak her mind.
"This was supposed to be just us."
Steve sighed. "I know, and I'm sorry."
"You, know, I would have been okay with this if you had told me beforehand," she said, sounding slightly less angry as she looked out the window.
"I know that too."
"Then why wouldn't you tell me?"
"It was..." Steve ran a hand through his hair. "It was a last-minute decision."
"And you couldn't have run it by me?"
"Peggy, he found out where we were going an hour before we left and asked if he could tag along just for the drive," he explained quickly. "He won't be staying with us during the week."
"What interest does he have with a small town in Maine?" she asked. "And why would it have been so hard to tell me all of this beforehand instead of letting me be mad at him for no reason?"
"I don't know, Pegs. We're just a couple of stupid kids from Brooklyn."
"You can say that again," she snorted.
"We're just a couple of stupid kids from Brooklyn," he obliged, smirking.
"Steve," she laughed, thwapping his arm with the back of her hand.
"Ah, there she is," he said, smiling. "He found out that his sister lives in that small town. She reached out to him a little while ago, and he's been looking for an excuse to take a break and go see her."
Peggy sat still for a moment before speaking again. "Why do you always make things more complicated than they need to be? You could have told me, 'Hey, Peggy, Bucky's coming with us to see his sister,' and that would have been all that needed to be said."
"Peg--"
"But no! You had to tell me the moment that we left that Bucky was coming along for our trip to Maine with no more explanation."
"I'm sorry--"
"As you very well should be!"
--
Parked in front of Rebecca's house a few hours later, Steve and Peggy peered together at Bucky passed out on the back seat.
"I don't want to wake him up," Peggy whispered.
"Neither do I."
"We have to, though, don't we? We can't very well sit out here and wait."
"Yeah, Rebecca was expecting us a little earlier than we ended up getting here," he admitted. "I'm a little scared to wake him up, though. The last time I woke him up from a nap, I ended up with a black eye."
Peggy looked at him with raised eyebrows. "He punched you?"
Steve's cheeks turned pink. "Well, no..."
"How'd you end up with a black eye, then?" she asked, a smile growing on her face.
His blush deepened. "I--well, he--" He put his face in his hands. "Why did I bring this up?"
"I don't know, but you did. You have to tell me now." He began to protest, but she stopped him, saying, "You at least owe me this one story in apology for your lack of tact earlier today."
Steve peeked an eye up from behind his hands to look at Peggy and saw that she was absolutely serious. "He scared me and I punched myself," he mumbled.
"You what?" she laughed.
"When I woke him up, he made this horrible screeching sound, and it startled me. I punched myself on accident," he explained bashfully.
"Ah, the misadventures of tiny Steve," she sighed, laughing.
"It wasn't before the serum," he whispered, feeling morally obligated to correct her, but hoping she wouldn't hear. That idea failed.
"When was it, then?"
Just when Peggy thought he couldn't go redder, he somehow managed to. "Three weeks ago."
It was a wonder that Bucky hadn't woken up yet with the racket Peggy was making trying and failing not to laugh.
"You said that you had gotten hit sparring with someone," she said. "You were really that embarrassed?"
"I don't know, what does the color of my face tell you?"
"It tells me that my traumatized supersoldier won't be able to wake his best friend up for fear of hurting himself again."
"You're going to?"
"Watch and learn, Captain." She squared her shoulders and brought out a tone of voice that she only used when directing. "Sergeant Barnes, you're late," she scoffed simply.
Bucky sat up in an instant, suddenly wide awake with a look of wild panic in his eyes. "Yes, Agent Carter, ma'am, sorry, ma'am."
"That's quite alright, Sergeant," she forgave him, smirking. "At ease."
Bucky relaxed, staring groggily at his hands in his lap for a second. "Wait, what?" he mumbled. "Peggy, what the heck?"
"Couldn't resist," she answered, shrugging. "We're here."
"Yeah, yeah, but also why the heck?"
"Steve was scared to wake you up and I wasn't."
Bucky chuckled. "Didn't want to punch yourself again?"
Steve still hadn't recovered from his first round of blushing and was still a brilliant and surely before undiscovered shade of red. "We agreed not to talk about that," he said quietly.
"You asked me not to talk about that, and I just didn't have the opportunity until now," Bucky clarified.
"Let's just go inside," Steve resigned.
He popped the trunk so that Bucky could grab his suitcase, then stepped out of the car. As soon as everyone else was out and the doors were shut, he locked the car. Bucky closed the trunk and the three walked up Rebecca's driveway and up to her front door.
When Bucky hesitated to knock on the door, Peggy stepped up and knocked instead. "We can't have her waiting all day," she quipped.
A young woman answered the door and looked at Steve and Peggy with confusion, but that cleared once her eyes landed on Bucky. "Oh, you must be Rebecca's grandson," you said, offering him your hand to shake. "I'm (Y/N), her housemate of sorts."
"Ah, older brother actually," he corrected you, stepping forward to shake your hand with a newfound bit of pep in his step.
"Brother!" you exclaimed. "I guess that explains even better why you look so much like her. You kept your youth pretty well, didn't you?"
"You could certainly say that," he chuckled. "She, uh, didn't mention anything about a housemate."
You looked at him blankly for a moment. "Of course she didn't. That's just like her."
"Is her mind slipping?" Bucky asked.
"Oh, no, quite the opposite," you laughed. "She's still as sharp as a tack and getting sharper. She didn't mention to me that she was expecting guests."
It was Bucky's turn to look at you blankly as he began to realize Rebecca's intentions. "That is just like her, you're right. I can see she hasn't changed a bit since we were kids."
"Apparently not," you agreed. You then realized that you had been talking at the doorstep for too long. "Oh, you guys can come in. I'll go grab Rebecca." You opened the door wider and welcomed the three in. "Make yourselves at home," you invited.
While you left down the hall to look for Rebecca, she hobbled out of the kitchen on the opposite side of the entryway, looking a little sprightlier than the average near-one-hundred-year-old. "I see you met (Y/N)," she asked Bucky cheekily.
"Becca, I haven't seen you since the war, and the first thing you do is try to set me up?" Bucky asked.
"You're meant for each other," she responded, shrugging mischievously. "You'll see what I mean by the time this week is over."
"I see age hasn't changed you," he said, smiling.
"I would hope not," she replied, grinning.
The siblings embraced, and it really felt like nothing had changed between them.
--
After the week had passed, Steve and Peggy drove back to Rebecca's house to pick Bucky up. They stayed for about an hour, having lunch and chatting with you and Rebecca. Both Steve and Peggy caught onto something new in Bucky that hadn't been there before, something they recognized as what they had felt when they had started falling for each other all those years ago.
Once all the goodbyes were said and the three were all back in the car, Bucky's demeanor changed. "Becca was right," he said.
"About what?" Steve asked, exchanging an amused glance with Peggy.
"I think I'm in love."
