Ramiel is the fifth angel that appears in neon genesis evangelion. it appears as a floating crystal octahedron capable of deploying a drill and firing a large destructive laser with perfect accuracy. it makes noises that sound like high pitched voices singing. it is the least organic and most mechanical of the angels, and is arguably not "alive". an internal scan shows that a massive nuclear reactor is contained within it's body. it uses it's drill to try and breach the geofront to reach Adam. realizing that an eva could not get close enough to attack Ramiel, Misato came up with the plan to channel all of Tokyo-3's energy into firing a massive experimental positron rifle fired by unit 01. Ramiel counterattack but it's beam was blocked by unit 00 and it's heat shield. Ramiel was defeated, but unit 00 was badly damaged and received repairs and a color change afterwards.

beast mode is a form activated by Mari Makinami Illustrious in Evangelion 2.0 where she enacts a sort of controlled berserk mode with heightened power. the restrictive pilons are removed, and the eva undergoes a transformation where it "abandons it's humanity". the proportions are far less human and it looks animalistic. Asuka enacts an ungraded beast mode in 3.0 where unit 02 becomes even more animalistic and seems to affect Asuka as well as she seems to have fangs and glowing eyes

02. strongest unit you had? hmm well i played azure moon on easy mode and bc i was a noob back then i didn't know how to optimize my units, and the other routes i played on hard afterwards. so like, while i now know dimitri has access to batallion vantage and wrath to become a complete monster, ive never actually used him with that combo. generally though, across the three other routes, felix has been my strongest unit. that's partly because he and sylvain get Extreme Favouritism from me so almost every stat booster i have goes to them, as do the best weapons, but felix with sword avo +20 (through having him compete in the white heron cup), his overall great strength growth and good spd growth and his access to vantage makes an absolute powerhouse. ive had so many maps where he decimates a demonic beast's or titan's last hp bar. plus his crest activates like, every turn you use him. i usually equip him with a rapier and the crit ring and leave the shield behind to boost avo, but the fact that he has access to the relic too is just the cherry on top tbh

17. character you relate to? it's a bit of a hard question bc pretty much everyone in this game has insane trauma and i don't really (lmao). for example, i relate to dimitri's strong sense of justice and duty and that's partly why i like him because we're very much alike in that sense, but there's plenty about him that resonates with me but that i don't necessarily relate to. i can also relate to annette's perfectionism and a work ethic that isn't very healthy because you feel a need to prove yourself over and over again, but im unfortunately also very good at slacking off when i shouldn't (bc of the perfectionism), which she isn't.

For my seventy-fifth Evangelion book review, here is Evangelion no Yuru~i Nakama Yurushito desu. (It’s Evangelion’s Soft Companion Yurushito.), published by Groundworks. This 96-page paperback is a new book that came out a few weeks ago! It commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Evangelion Store’s mascot and product line known as “Yurushito” (Soft Angel, or Weak Angel). The Yurushito product line features cutesy renditions of the Angels (especially Sachiel), and sometimes other Eva-related stuff as well, such as Evangelion Unit-02 in Beast Mode, the Mass Production Evangelions, Jet Alone, and some of the Seele monoliths. Oh, and in case you’re wondering if Kaworu is included since he’s an Angel, unfortunately there is no cutesy version of Kaworu in this book. I guess it’s because Kaworu is already cute and appears in so many other product lines.

This book is not available in English or French, but there are plenty of full color pictures... and they’re adorable! The dust jacket is also removable, and the alternate cover art hidden underneath is a charming pattern featuring the Yurushito characters, printed all in green (a full color version of the pattern can be found inside the book, near the end). The Evangelion Store also has a limited edition release of this book that includes an acrylic stand, however I didn’t get the limited edition because I don’t have enough room for collecting acrylic stands, heh. Anyway, would you like to see some of the cuteness that can be found in this book? Keep reading for the rest of the book review, plus a few more pictures!

The book starts with a charming intro that shows the Yurushito characters gathering for a group photo, and after that is the Table of Contents. Then the next section is “Yurushito no Nakamatachi” (Yurushito’s Circle of Friends), which has brief profiles for the characters. Here is one of the pages, which shows Zeruel, Sahaquiel, and two Angels from the Evangelion New Theatrical Edition (AKA “Rebuild”):

The Angels look so cute in that art style! By the way, as you might have noticed from the book’s cover and what I’ve talked about so far, this book uses a mixture of characters from the original Evangelion TV series and the New Theatrical Edition. This section of the book tends to use their New Theatrical Edition designations when applicable. For example, in the TV series Zeruel was the 14th Angel, but in the New Theatrical Edition they were the 10th Angel and their name wasn’t mentioned, so in the above image you can see that they’re called “10th” instead of “Zeruel”.

However, some of the Angels are given amusing nicknames instead of numbers. In the above image, the 3rd Angel (the skeletal one that can levitate) is called “Janpu mo dekiru yo”, which means “Can also jump”. As for the 7th Angel (the one that looks like a drinky bird), their nickname is “Igaito taoremasen”, which means “Surprisingly doesn’t fall over”!

Moving on, the next part of the book is devoted to 4-frame comics about the four seasons. For example, one of the winter comics is called “Guruguru” (Wrapping Around), and it shows the Yurushito characters sharing one very, VERY long scarf. I found these comic strips to be mostly cute rather than funny, but that’s not a bad thing. The comics are very soothing and wholesome!

After the comics, there is a memories album featuring photos of Sachiel... more specifically, they’re photos of someone in a Sachiel costume, or sometimes photos of a Sachiel plushie. These photos show Sachiel doing various activities such as attending Evangelion Store events, posing in front of landmarks, and frolicking in nature. Check out this photo of Sachiel posing with a huge Evangelion Unit-01 located in Kyoto:

The next section is about a trip through all 47 prefectures of Japan. It’s full of art depicting Yurushito characters enjoying something famous about each place they visit. For example, the illustration for Kyoto shows Sachiel dressed as a maiko (apprentice geisha), and the image for Chiba shows Sachiel as a peanut. Very cute!

After that is an artwork section full of delightful promotional art, including collaborations. Here’s a piece from one of the pages:

In the scan shown above, the picture at the top is for a Godzilla vs. Yurushito collaboration. It shows the Yurushito characters fighting Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah! As for the picture below that, it shows Rei Ayanami with a Yurushito Sachiel plushie. I love it!

The section after that is “Kyou no Yurushito” (Today’s Yurushito), and it collects some of the Yurushito posts that have been made on Twitter over the years. The pics in this section show the Yurushito characters having all kinds of fun such as eating noodles, and dressing up for Halloween. There’s even a picture of Ramiel, Shamshel, and Sachiel going to the movie theater to see Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time...

Next is a goods archive, which shows photos of various Yurushito merchandise. So many cute things! I wish I had enough room to collect all of them! So far the only Yurushito merchandise I have (besides this book, obviously) is a paperweight of Sachiel posing like Auguste Rodin’s sculpture Le Penseur (The Thinker). Here’s a piece from one of the pages, which includes a photo of the paperweight I’m talking about:

By the way, in the scan shown above, you can see a plushie that looks like a yellow fish, with Sachiel in the fish’s mouth. That fish is actually a shachihoko, a creature from Japanese folklore that is part tiger and part carp. Pretty cool, huh?

The book comes to an end with a cute epilogue called “Mata ne” (See you later), and a couple of appendix pages that you can use to make pochibukuro (a small, decorated envelope for giving New Year’s gifts).

Overall, Evangelion no Yuru~i Nakama Yurushito desu. is a delightful book, full of adorable illustrations. My only complaint is that a number of the pages had multiple pictures crammed together, so the pics had to be very small on those pages. But other than that, I really enjoyed it. If you’re an Evangelion fan who likes cute things, it’s worth checking out! Just keep in mind that the book is focused on the Angels (especially Sachiel), so if you’d rather get a book featuring the Lilin characters or the Evas, you might want to skip this book and go for something else.

I definitely do have criticisms of how Mari was handled in 3.0+1.0 but it's mostly just her character fell flat whenever she was centered around Shinji, but when she was focused on anyone else she was good. To be fair that's because the writers make everything about Shinji and will warp everything to fit what they need for Shinji to do. I am curious about your thoughts on that?

I've been thinking about how to answer this one for a bit now, since usually me talking about Mari's character is something I try to put into a single tweet, while this time I got a lot more space. Ultimately my best try is to just go at it though and try to be as coherrent as possible haha

I dont even know where to start really... I suppose the best start is that Eva's characters change. Them and their relationships with eachother change due to the events they go through. In NGE good examples would be Asuka and Ritsuko given how "extreme" the change between the first time they show up compared to the later episodes is. While in the Rebuilds Shinji is a good example of how a character and their relationships change over the four movies. Ultimately all characters go through changes and developement at some point, in some form (especially in 3.0+1.0).

This is where Mari comes into place because she completely, and absolutely, does not bend to any of that, does not fit into what Eva previously was. She's new, she's so diffrent and she was (and I guess still is) basically a complete wildcard. We couldn't predict how she'll act because we had not a single thing to base her on, no previous appearance or roll in the anime, not even the non-canon things like Anima or the bonus manga chapter since they're extremely diffrent to what Rebuild Mari ultimately was.

Where I'm going with this? Well... I don't think she ever acted out of character, or at least I never felt like she did.

Mari is a walking ray of sunshine, to be fully honest. It's the simplest way to say it. An incredibly intelligent ray of sunshine, but still. Mari loves people, loves being with people, she loves living, she keeps pushing forward and decides to live even in the face of traumatic, apocalytic events (Second, Near Third, Third, Fourth, Additional Impacts) and loss of people close to her (Yui and Asuka; funnily enough the Yui thing is kind of... not a parallel but something else with Gendo, or maybe its a parallel lol) and she does make the most of everything even if it's dangerous (See: Beast mode Unit 02 against Zeruel/The Tenth Angel; or even attacking Unit 13).

Mari is... she's the only one who doesn't change in how she interacts with people; in fact she hasn't changed at all since she went to university and between that and 3.0+1.0 is about 30 years.

Still the same walking ray of sunshine as before.

I do understand why it may seem like Mari's character seems... flat or strange with Shinji. Honestly the first time I saw Thrice Upon a Time I was very confused why she was so buddy-buddy with him/cared about him suddenly. Then I thought about it though and it started making sense.

Mari is the type of person to care abt people she doesn't have any real personal/emotional connection with on the basic empathy/human decency level, she only really cares about people she has history with, Asuka is proof of that. With her its a relationship that formed over 14 years, and 3.0+1.0 made it VERY clear that Mari cares about Asuka A LOT, as she is always her main concern, so on. And so, the same goes for Shinji.

Mari used to be friends with his parents, hell she was the one who introduced Gendo and Yui with eachother, and was even there during Shinji's birth.

She's known the guy since he was a baby, and based on Fuyutsuki's photo it's easy to assume that Mari had quite a bit of contact with him up until Yui's death when Gendo sends him away. It's logical that at that point any contact to him she had broke off for years until she finally sees him again 10 years later in Tokyo-03.

BUT. He is also the son of her dead friend, and I think that there definitely and 100% is an emotional thing going on because of that. In fact, I like to imagen that Mari realized that a part of Yui would always exist in Shinji long, long, before Gendo does and it's why she ends up being able to so... freely, almost joking mention the Yui-Rei thing later on.

It would also explain why she ends up helping him in 2.0, why she is so determind to get him and why she's so positive, so nice to him. And I think, that maybe, just maybe, Asuka's words ("That child doesn't need a lover, he needs a mother.") may not just have been foreshadowing of sort to Misato, but also may had have something to do with her later on keeping it up and being more... idk fierce? Persisstend? Either of those in how determind she is in finding Shinji.

And most of all, I think there is also a diffrence in how she cares about Asuka and Shinji, the only one's she has an emotional connection to. She fiercly cares about both of them, but with Asuka it's... it feels more fleshed out compared to how she is with Shinji, which could be the writing, but I think it's not bad. It highlights the one-sided, and in brackets made bond she has with Shinji (until the end-end) vs. the deep, 14 year long bond she has with Asuka (Besides she never looked at Shinji the way she looked at Asuka LMAO gay ass /lh)

Most of the weirdness I got from Mari and Shinji's relationship mostly comes from the fact that Shinji, has no emotional connection to Mari, while Mari does have that. The ending skipped past any establishing of how they bonded as well, which leads to the strangeness and that it almost feels a bit... off. Or that people see it as a nonsense ship that was shoved in there at the last minute.

I ended up thinking of it as friends at the beginning, and later on the more I thought about it as a sort of.... older/younger sibling thing, or something similiar. Honestly found-family is probably the best way to say it lol (But I do get why ppl saw it as romantic, it's all up to interpretation me thinks🤷‍♂️) But now this kinda took a wrong turn bc rambling abt the ending is a diffrent topic lmao

In the end what I can say is: I think the Mari/Shinji thing feels off at first, but makes sense once you dig into things (and I did a lot of digging in regards to Mari lol)

Only thing I actually hated is the "Nice girl with big boobs" thing, but I simply tell myself thats there because Mari is trans and happy her transition is going well to soothe the severe headache that sentence gives me rip

Shinji, Asuka, and QRei wander until they are picked up by a truck, transporting them to a nearby Lilin settlement.

Toji is a village doctor and father of a young child named Tsubama (with Hikari, who is also alive).

Kensuke is also there. He’s an avid survivalist and works for a smaller sub-organization within WILLE called KREDIT, developing and refining the re-vitalization tech used for Angel Sealing Pillars.

Shinji stays with Kensuke and Asuka. Asuka wanders around naked and has a few suspiciously intimate moments with Kensuke, who she refers to as Ken-Ken.

Shinji is nearly catatonic. He refuses to eat or engage, still shaken by what happened with Kaworu. At one point, he gets a glimpse of Asuka’s DSS Choker and vomits, having been reminded of Kaworu’s head exploding. Kensuke cleans up the vomit.

Asuka marvels how he can manage to throw up without eating anything. Frustrated, Asuka and other villagers try to forcefeed him meals. Village elders scold Shinji for not trying hard enough. Hikari implores that the elders go easier on him.  

Meanwhile, Shinji is slowly recovering from his initial shock. Asuka is protecting the village perimeter.Kensuke teaches Shinji how to fish, elaborating more on the Angel Sealing Pillars. According to Kensuke, ASPs do not run indefinitely. Their failure will mean the end of the Lilin settlement and its inhabitants. Here, he introduces Shinji to “Ryoji Kaji” - Misato and Kaji’s 14 year old son, who works with Kensuke on KREDIT.Ryoji wears a light blue/white radiation suit. Here, it’s explained that Kaji died during 3rd Impact by closing the Door of Guf, while Misato was pregnant with Ryoji. Presumably, the Door of Guf can only be opened and closed with a Key of Nebuchandezzer, so Kaji could have procured two Keys from SEELE, one that he gave to Gendo, and one that he kept for himself.Ryoji has no clue who his parents are - allegedly thinks of himself as orphaned (parallels with Kaji’s own childhood post-Second Impact). Misato had abandoned him shortly after he was born. 

Turns out, Rei has an LCL deficiency in need of constant maintenance. Her body deteriorates the longer she remains outside her tank. With Tsubama near, Rei starts crying as the realization dawns on her. She has no idea how to process her death and doesn’t understand why it makes her so sad.Before she dies, Rei finds Shinji and gives him the SDAT. She thanks him. Her plugsuit changes color from black to white and she explodes in a pop of LCL.Shinji decides to return to WILLE and help Misato restore the world back to its pre-Impact state.WILLE does not react to Shinji well. They quarantine him again, though this time without a DSS Choker. Asuka and Mari visit him in his quarantine cell.Mari re-introduces herself to Shinji. Asuka admits to Shinji that she’d “liked him a long time ago” when she was still a child. Asuka is relieved to be long past those childish feelings, and happier still she had the opportunity to get them off her chest.Gendo starts to make use of Eva 13. The Wunder embarks to destroy him and 13. Here, a battle ignites between a skull-Eva army and Units 02 and 08, repaired with the spare parts WILLE salvaged from Paris in AVANT.Asuka attempts to destroy Unit 13′s core, first by removing her eyepatch to unleash an energy bolt from her Bardiel-corrupted eyesocket.When that doesn’t work, she goes beast mode, only for Unit 13 to destroy her after she injects Angel blood into 02 for an emergency upgrade. Asuka dies.  

Gendo successfully merges with 13, ready to start the final Impact. Shinji demands that Misato let him pilot Unit-01.Misato agrees; the time has come for Shinji to face off against his father in Unit-01. However, Sakura and Midori are vehemently opposed to the idea.Sakura, terrified and panicked, tries to shoot Shinji. Misato intervenes and takes a bullet for him (just like in EOE).As Shinji rushes to Misato’s aid, they have a heart to heart. Shinji tells Misato he met her son, Ryoji, and liked him. Shinji hands Misato a photo of Shinji and Ryoji smiling together that Kensuke had taken moments before. Misato smiles, relieved.Mari retrieves Shinji and transports him to Unit 01. Inside 01, sits Rei II with long hair. Shinji goes berserk.Shinji and Gendo duke it out in Units 01 and 13. Shinji is positioned as someone capable of growth, someone who can move on from the past, versus Gendo, who is escapist, stagnant, trapped in old memories. Shinji resolves to create a new world without Evas. During their fight, Shinji and Gendo’s memories cycle through, pulling in random scenes from their pasts: Shinji’s middle school, Sachiel stage, inside Misato’s apartment, etc.WILLE is baffled how Shinji can pilot despite his synch ratio reading “zero” - until Maya and Ritsuko realize “zero” actually represents the number closest to zero; that is, infinity.At one point, Gendo and Shinji stop fighting and the setting transforms to reveal a train, where they both confront each other. Gendo’s backstory is explored: he was alone and didn’t care about people, until he met Yui, who made him feel for the first time. When she died, he decied he’d do anything to get her back again.  

Shinji gets right up in Gendo’s face and pops his AT Field. Gendo protests, incredulous and resisting. We see a flashback of Gendo sending Shinji away.Shinji gives Gendo the SDAT through the AT Field. Gendo, defeated, departs the train  

Shinji and Rei brainstorm how the new, Eva-less world will look like. Shinji says, in English, the new world will be a “Neon Genesis.”Rebuild is set up as a sequel/loop of the original TV series. Kaworu is the same character in every Evangelion story: when he dies in one universe he gets brought back in another.Shinji remembers the original anime inside Unit 01, which contains both the Lance of Longinus and Lance of Cassius (the lances of hope and despair, together).  

Shinji attempts to impale himself as we get flashbacks from End of Evangelion. Giant Rei returns in hyperrealistic/fantastical CGI.Misato sacrifies herself and the Wunder by colliding the ship into GNR’s giant head. Before she dies, she says “I’m sorry, Ryoji” - a parallel played straight with Gendo in EOE.Yui blocks Shinji before he can impale himself with the Spears. Two sets of arms wrap around 01, including Eva 13 (Gendo). Gendo and Yui reunite, smiling fondly at their son.Shinji gets transported into the sea of LCL from End of Evangelion. Asuka is there, her plugsuit in tatters. Shinji tells Asuka that he once liked her, but now she needs to take care of Kensuke.Asuka has an Instrumentality sequence where she confronts a giant, human-sized doll as a child. The doll removes its head to reveal Kensuke, who affirms her existence  

Final Impact commences. Shinji says “Goodbye, all of Evangelion.” Unlike EOE Impact where everyone explodes into puddles of LCL, everyone, already having exploded, regains their forms through self-discovery.Evangelions turn into humans. Humans become men, women, children, animals, and nature.Shinji is alone on a quiet, blue beach. Mari’s Evangelion appears and says, “Goodbye Evangelion 3.0+1.0.” We’re treated to another train station. Adult Shinji, wearing a business suit, waits on one side of the tracks. Adult Rei and Kaworu are on the other side.Adult Mari comes up from behind Shinji and goes “Guess who?”Shinji replies: “a woman with a big chest.” Mari asks him if he’s “ready to go” and Shinji responds with an affirmative. Then, the shot pulls back to reveal a shot of live action Ube, Japan - Hideaki Anno’s hometow 

There you have it. After all these years kensuke get to be whit the girl of his dreams. Kensuke is the man.   AsukaKkenken LIVES!!!! Good things comes to those who wait.
