I love the idea of polls for characters that wouldn’t win otherwise because they’re too obscure, so I want to know what character people have the most strong opinions about, specifically who can split a room between negative or positive opinions the best.

For example: i haven’t heavily interacted with fandom since steven universe days so I’ll use Rose Quartz as an example. People either think she’s a soft uwu mom victim of the diamonds or an evil irredeemable space despot. I have never met a steven universe fan with a neutral opinion about her.

So that’s how your blorbo can win this poll: by being divisive. They don’t have to be popular or from a popular media, they just need the people who know them to have a strong opinion about them. In this poll, the character with the MOST EVEN balance of votes wins. I’ll post an example poll to show what I mean, but basically you’re encouraged to submit a blorbo if you love them or hate them! Either one helps them in this poll!

Here is where you can find the list of all characters with 2 or more submissions who made it in! Those with one submission who made it in will be added to this list in phases so I can check them.

- fictional characters only, no real people or characters based on real people, such as a minecraft youtuber’s self-named oc, or fictionalized versions of historical figures (ie no hamilton characters, but clone high or fate is fine)

- as stated above, only submit each character once, although you can submit as many DIFFERENT characters as you want. Sending this post to friends who hate your fave or vice versa is also fair game, as long as they only submit their true opinions!

- Although to add to the hopeful anti-bullying safeguard, and to publicly answer a question I was asked privately, you can also submit characters who are ocs from smaller or fan works, but only if you get explicit permission from the creator. I don’t want to make any smaller creators feel uncomfortable about their character being widely hated even if they are also widely loved

- you can love or hate the character for any reason as long as you have strong feelings about them! They already feel entitled to our love. They demand it from us. By caving to that you gain nothing except male approval, you make no steps towards equality, you're just upholding the status quo.

The idea that love is the antidote to male violence is one of the oldest "it's actually your fault your husband is abusing you, and it's your duty to stay with him and sleep with him more" messages in existence. I'm sure that's not what you literally mean by it, but that is in the end what your strategy amounts to here.

Hey, all,

I have long been tempted to do a readthrough/commentary of the Hobbit/LOTR because other people did it* and I am nothing but imitative. As it happens I have had the immense good fortune to find a copy of The Hobbit for 50 cents at the thrift store** so I am tentatively planning a readthrough, which (if it comes to pass) will be over on my dreamwidth, and will start in January because I have so many other things going on in the Thanksgiving+Christmas season.

so why post about it now, well, for two reasons:

I would kind of like to talk about the different adaptations of The Hobbit in vidya games, comics and such, so if you know of an obscure one I would love to hear about it. I want to start collecting material and figuring out how to present it. (and if it goes well I might eventually do the same for lotr so go ahead and send lotr stuff too if you're willing)

and I have a related dilemma

I have not watched the peter jackson hobbit movies. And those suckers are long, all together, so if I decide to watch them, it might take me until january to get around to finishing all of it.

Now, usually, I am a very open minded and wonderful person (uwu) who doesn't decide how to feel about something before trying it. I stayed open-minded about the Ralph Bakshi movie! And I liked parts of it! However, I don't think I would enjoy jacksonhobbit. I have seen a lot of pieces of it floating around the Internet and it looks like everything I didn't like about the LOTR movies but without most of the things that made up for it. With that in mind, I at first wasn't planning to watch those movies before doing a commentary of the book, because it would take up quite a few hours of my life and my review would be mostly whining**. I don't think my perspective on those movies is oh so unique or insightful enough that a critique from me would elevate past whining and these movies are well known enough that anyone reading my posts probably has their own opinions already and I don't need to tell them what the pj hobbit movies are.

But on the other hand, without seeing those movies, my review would be somewhat incomplete. And maybe some people like whining. I don't know. Nostalgia Critic still gets a lot of views, guys.

TL;DR i thought I would subject the question to the gladiatorial arena of the tumblr poll. I might not do exactly what the poll says in the end but it gives me something to consider.

Scootaloo for Most Orangest

Hello, I am Roman Artificialkidspoll and today I'm going to tell YOU why you should be voting for Scootaloo for most orangest in the @orangecharactersmackdown.

First of all, look at her:

Look how orange she is! And it's such a nice shade of orange too! Like obviously you can't go wrong with any shade of orange but I'm very partial to that particular range of oranges, the ones that are REALLY orange, like this is a PURE shade of orange.

But on top of that, she also has purple mane and tail. Purple and orange go SO well together, like Loxley and Bagel. You can't miss!

Another reason you should vote for her is because she has a cool scooter that she uses to do sick tricks and stunts.

Also, she likes Rainbow Dash SO much, and Rainbow Dash likes her too! From her introduction onward she was always Rainbow Dash's biggest fan, but over the course of the series Rainbow Dash came to really like her SO much in return, even going so far as to become SCOOTALOO'S biggest fan (apart from me, of course). She even agreed to take Scoot under her wing and be her big sister figure, because she thinks Scootaloo is neat! (See below)

And she takes her role SERIOUSLY because she loves Scootaloo and wants her to be happy and awesome (you should want this too, and express it by voting for her)

Here are some other facts about Scootaloo:

She lives in Ponyville with her lesbian aunts because her parents are adventurers and always off on adventures. At one point she gets the chance to go back to living in Cloud City with them but decides to stay in Ponyville because that's where her loved ones all are!

She's disabled (see above video). This was actually pretty clear from early on but they actually CANONIZED it in a later season, at which point I promptly lost my mind because I didn't think they'd ever say it out loud. Her wings are too small to support her in flight, but she's able to adapt to it with the support of her friends and family, because she's AWESOME. See: sick tricks and stunts.

She and the other Cutie Mark Crusaders got their cutie marks in season five, and not only did their cutie marks mark out their special talents and purpose, they also marked them as BEST FRIENDS. Imagine best friending so hard that your MARK OF DESTINY decides that being best friends is your destiny.

She has her, Sweetie Belle's, and Apple Bloom's mane and tail colors as the stripes. You WISH you were as cool and bound with your friends as she is.

If you don't like MCU Spider-Man because he's too "uwu baby innocent" then... you're doing it wrong. Yeah, I admit fandom has babyized him, but one of the defining characteristics of Spider-Man, along with power and responsibility and all that is his *anger*. He's either constantly channeling it into something positive, suppressing it, or letting it get out in ways that inevitably destroy his life.

We don't see MCU Peter in that position for most of the movies, that's true- but if you view the trilogy as a long form origin story (as I think it's meant to be), then I think it's reasonable that he doesn't reach his breaking point until May dies in NWH. We see that he's not perfect, not wholly innocent, he's just never been tested in this way- and if he wasn't stopped by a version of himself who had made the mistake of letting his anger take over- he would have done exactly that.

No, MCU Peter didn't kill Norman Osborn. But he wanted to. He *tried* to. He was stopped from doing so, but he still has to live with the reality that it was something he absolutely would have done, and figure out how to make sure he doesn't ever sink to that level, especially when there's another way out.

I only knew because I saw some articles about the fiasco it was going to be because of their decision to let the genocidal state participate (after immediately removing Russia for committing similar war crimes one or two years before. Yeah, it's not political. /sarcasm/ They can keep trying to gaslight us thinking we're dumb, but this fucking contest came to be after WWII to promote peace among the countries lol so it's very literally inherently political). I had no idea when the semi-finals would be or when the final would be and mind that normally I skip the semi finals (I listen to the songs) and only watch the final. This year? I didn't even fucking listen to a single song. Because the very decision to participate was already saying that Palestinian lives don't matter so fuck them. I only knew because a friend of mine was watching it despite being against the genocidal state (and didn't vote thankfully) and told me that the audience wasn't happy and booed the ex-IDF, pinkwashed bitch who was there (just so you know, originally the song those fuckers were getting in with was called 'October Rain' but the EBU was all 'oh no please change it! It's too in your face that we're siding with you if we let you get in with that!'). There were some people clapping (and I hate people who are on the fence and are all 'ah separate the art from the artist uwu') but it was so obviously rigged and like even the audience voted for their mediocre song. They got top 5 which is just... disgusting. Not many words can describe it as well. The only thing good to come out of this is that more people (the general public) became aware of what's actually happening and realised they were falling prey to propaganda.

That being said, hell yes, true homie, we can truly be proud of this shitsite for once because all I saw were people calling to boycott this shitshow (Norway literally called it that lol savage neighbours. The contest was held in Sweden and last year it was so very obviously rigged that people were already mad and then this happened and made people who were informed go like 'Yeah fuck EBU and their rubbish, hypocritical stance that international contests can be apolitical after they got rid of Russia immediately'). I feel very strongly about this and needed to rant a little. I'm tired of zionists and Israel defenders who fall for propaganda and bullshit that has zero evidence of ever having happened (they started the attack in October) and don't know that these people have been being subjected to this since the 40s. Because the imperialistic Arabs around them wanted to colonise everything but Palestine received them with open arms. I may not talk much about this but I have read the History and the whistleblower books. It's absolutely appalling that an ethnic cleansing is happening, the oppressed became the oppressors (they even built a concentration camp to torture Palestinian civilians), over 12 thousand Palestinian children are dead, and people are still on the fence about the whole thing.

Nobody is antisemitic for condemning a genocide. It's not about their religion. Nobody who wasn't antisemitic will become antisemitic because of this. But this is very clearly a case of Islamophobia and I will die on this hill.
