You too can turn your ordinary sauna into a smoke sauna by this simply trick: start the fire under the stove with no proper wind. Then kick your feet up and watch your sauna fill with smoke

Wild and revolutionary concept: maybe don't treat converts like trash just because they're converts? And also don't ask someone if they're a convert in a public setting?

ALOK with some profound words for you all in these trying times.
"The poetry and the beauty of a they/them pronoun is it says, 'I am both singular and plural at the same time.'"
Reminder that we are a social animal. We are here for each other and can never be truly alone.
And all of us? We contain 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘴.

I saw Alok talk with Stephen Colbert about this but it really resonated with me. They hate disabled and trans people because we are confident in our bodies and attentive to them. They hate us because we focus on our bodies.
Meanwhile, they hate their bodies. Bigots cannot face their own mortality. Becoming disabled or being Trans is not only something they are afraid of, they're afraid of facing that they will die someday. And in the meantime they've been taught to hate their body. To lose weight, to eat better, to exercise more.
They cannot relate to us because to relate would be to face your body. To face mortality. And they will not. But it's coming for them anyway.

Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok Vaid-Menon
Tumblr media
In Beyond the Gender Binary, poet, artist, and LGBTQIA+ rights advocate Alok Vaid-Menon deconstructs, demystifies, and reimagines the gender binary.
Pocket Change Collective is a series of small books with big ideas from today's leading activists and artists. In this installment, Beyond the Gender Binary, Alok Vaid-Menon challenges the world to see gender not in black and white, but in full color. Taking from their own experiences as a gender-nonconforming artist, they show us that gender is a malleable and creative form of expression. The only limit is your imagination.
