Cid has a battered old radio in his workshop. It catches a frequency that plays old songs, sometimes nostalgic for couples dancing to the rhythm of soft blues, other times all it plays is rock music and Cid hums the lyrics absentmindedly.

Sometimes Cid can hear soft humming coming from somewhere above him, as silent as the turning of pages. Vincent likes to read, perched most of the time on one of the crates or the wing of one of the planes. Sometimes a rafter, others a chair next to Cid’s as the engineer goes over blueprints and equations.

That day the radio station plays a soft but rhythmic melody that Cid will be the first to admit he doesn’t know how to dance to, but he doesn’t really care as he reaches out to Vincent with an extended hand in invitation. Vincent, who had been watching him swing around the workshop, a feeling of peace and happiness in that smile that carefully keeps the cigarette Cid is smoking in place, accepts Cid’s extended hand. Without warning he is lifted from the chair, twirled around and back in the blonde’s arms.

The song ends and is followed by a softer one that Vincent recognizes from back when he was still a Turk for ShinRa.

They sway together to the voice of the singer who reminds her love that she’s forever theirs.

Self Ship Valentines - Day 5

Prompt: “Favourite media”

Description: This one is not so much a writing piece as it is like, a handful of ideas! I feel like it’s a bit more explainable this way without me needing to pretend I can write music lyrics lmfao.

So!!! This one is a Dorothea/Bronwen post, since I feel like they fit pretty well here. So here goes;

-Dorothea, being an opera singer before Garreg Mach’s Officers Academy and beforethe war, obviously knows a lot about music and knows quite a few songs. Many of them are traditional operas right from Adrestia, but she’s open to hearing more songs.

-Lucky for her, Bronwen loves music! Bronwen doesn’t see herself as a good singer, but Dorothea loves her voice and says it’s beautiful.

-So, their favourite media to share is in music! Bronwen and Dorothea love sharing songs they know with one another, and contrasting them. Dorothea’s voice lends more to the opera, but Bronwen’s is more suited for the gentler songs that Serentir has to offer.

-When they get married, actually, Dorothea being a diva formerly kinda creates its own opera culture in Serentir as people want to know more about the queen consort. Bronwen’s happy to develop the arts sector in response!

-You can bet they fight over who does better. But Dorothea is fighting that Bronwen’s is the most beautiful, while Bronwen is fighting that Dorothy is. The cycle never ends. They fight and then smooch later. They are bi.

-Bronwen can’t write songs to save her damn life but Dorothea gives it a try. Bronwen is good, however, at thinking of melodies and tunes; just not lyrics. So Dorothea tends to hand Bronwen lyrics she’s written up before when inspiration strikes and Bronwen sings it in what tune comes to mind. It’s a lovely system of making their own things to enjoy together.
