1: where the fuck is he

The last thing Puck Summerdream remembered was moving out of the dorm with his friend-and-neighbor Juliette. He'd just finished his freshman year of college. but now he's on a boat. nothing looks right and something feels wrong. He wanders around. There's some food to pick through, but the only thing to drink is an entire bottle of cheap wine. That sounds like an awful idea but a guy has to keep hydrated.

There's a number of books, and they're all speaking absolute nonsense. He leafs through a few of them and gets the barest grasp of the situation. He knew there was a secret society on campus that allegedly kidnaps students once they are selected, but it mentioned nothing about a very detailed LARP situation. He settles on just riding out the rest of the journey. He is released and given a small supply of items that are apparently his to keep, including a whole sword. that feels very ominous.

He arrives at this filthy city with a strong suspicion this is definitely not a LARP. The locals have no clue what a Veronaville is. One of them does bring up a "strange door" that popped up nearby. Puck considers going inside the local city, but it's kinda sketchy. Nobody should go to Bravil, and a mystery portal sounds like the fastest way to either get home or go deeper into the mess.

and of course it's in the middle of a giant lake. it's already raining, he's already soaked, so he just hops in and gets swimming. It's a good thing he learned how to swim as a kid.

He reached the island sopping wet and miserable, and it sure does seem like a magic portal of sorts. Some guy jumps out of it and starts getting violent. Puck hides behind a rock with some kind of cat lady. His family situation introduced him to the idea of all sorts of paranormal magic nonsense, but even then it seems a bit too out-there. Whatever. He's a bit too shy to really ask what's going on, especially since that guard fellow seems especially ready to cut down people in his way.

this sounds like something tybalt would say, he figures, even if it's coming from some unknown source beyond the portal. it's worth a shot. He doesn't want to swim back to that city.

I finished Baldur's Gate 3 last night and wow. Really good game! It could get a little overwhelming with the sheer amount of content. I needed guides a lot more than I would have liked, but I loved the story. The entire cast of playable characters is great, but I do find the party size of 4 too restrictive. I just stuck to using the same party of my Paladin Tav, Gale, Shadowheart and Karlach(my wife). I would have appreciated some sort of sidekick system where inactive party members can provide some sort of passive buff to an assigned party member. This way even characters the player doesn't use can have out of combat conversations, which are fantastic, as well as being able to participate in story cutscenes. It would also be nice to swap my party around in a menu instead of talking to party members individually to change around the party.

On the subject of the party, here are some thoughts on the party members (Full game spoilers):

Gale is a fantastic little goober. The thing about him eating magic items in act 1 was hilarious. Tim Downie's performance was perfect for the character at every turn. Gale takes himself seriously to the point of both gripping drama and hilarious blunders. He was a mainstay of my party not just for having a good spell list, but he was a great guy. I love the arc I got for him, where he learns to accept that he doesn't have to keep ascending to greater heights, and becomes a teacher.

I thought when I met Shadowheart that I would hate her. I kept her around in the first few hours of act 1 because she was the first party member you got and also a cleric, which I knew would be useful for the entire game. I found her and Lae'zel bickering annoying at first, but it progressively got more and more entertaining. Then they actually tried to kill eachother, which gave great insight to both characters. Every bit of Shadowheart's quest made me love her more, from facing the gauntlet of Shar and rebelling against her to killing her captors and letting her parents go with their love in her heart. Also spirit guardian + boots of speed is goated holy shit

Karlach is amazing. She's goals and also my wife. From the moment I saw fanart of her, I knew she would be my favorite character. Her narrative of trying to escape from her past and it catching up with her struck a chord with me. Trying to fix her engine was a great conflict, and I love the ending where Karlach and my Tav Nadia go to Avernus to fix her engine once and for all. She's a ray of sunshine, and I love every second of joy in her eyes. I loved finding all the best equipment I could for her, with her getting the Balduran giantslayer for the final battle + amulet of health + being hasted. So much fun

Astarion is such a gremlin. I loved helping him kill his abuser and save all the other vampire spawn. I didn't use him very much, so he was kinda just comic relief to me, but he's still a great character even if you don't wind up going into his deepest depths.

Lae'zel was in a similar boat to Shadowheart, where I was put off by her in the beginning, but she won me over. I love a narrative where a character rejects a supposed truth they were brought up believing, and Lae'zel's crusade to kill Vlaakith was amazing. Gith lore was a corner of dnd lore I was more familiar with going in to the game from listening to Rolling With Difficulty, and that made Lae'zel's arc all the sweeter.

Wyll was the origin character that compelled me the least, but he was still cool. I don't have much to say about him.

Halsin and the quest to heal the shadowcurse are some all time favorite quests in this game. I love the ending he gets where he becomes the guardian of all the refugee children.

Jaehira was kinda just there. She was fun in the few interactions I had with her, but otherwise eh. I'm glad other people get more out of her than I do

The Emporer is a fascinating character. He is extremely set in his ways. He is unwilling to consider the idea that Orpheus won't try to kill the party because he thinks Orpheus would kill him for what he's done. This uncompromising nature is why he killed Ansur, and why he will betray you if you don't give him the netherstones and let him kill Orpheus.

Orpheus himself was a little underwhelming since he came in at the 11th hour, but I liked convincing him to live. I headcanon that if you convince him to live he meets Omeluum and those two learn from eachother.

Also the dead three's chosen were fun antagonists. I loved being jumpscared by JK Simmons when he showed up. I only kinda remembered that he would be in this game.

I love a ton of the changes and additions to the format of dnd 5e. The 1/short rest abilities make martials have a little more depth, which is a great boon. One minor thing I wish they got rid of from 5e is that you can't cast spells while raging. I would have loved to get more use out of Karlach's smites.

Instant short rests is something I love. It makes the game flow well and lets the characters that rely on short rests stay good. I'm honestly planning on adopting that in some form when I start dming.

One gripe I have is that the game pretends as if resurrection magic isn't a thing in the story. Each character starts the game with a couple scrolls of revivify, so I don't understand why you can't be resurrecting NPCs. That would save a lot of hassle.

All in all, I love Baldur's Gate 3. It's the perfect game for someone who loves RPGs and going for most of the sidequests. The story is engaging, and I don't have any gripes that ruin the game. It's mostly just things I would change to fit my own tastes more. 10/10

Scott is more of a drifter, he doesn't stay in one place long, and so doesn't get attached enough to anyone for them to become his claim

He does have a fondness of Sausage and Jimmy tho, (but has no interest in joining the emporers coven)

It is extremely dangerous for me to watch movies because I just think about incorporating my hyperfixations into them. And as of right now, my hyperfixation is Redactedverse.

I'm watching Mulan and all I wanna do is create an au with Freelancer, with Caelum taking Mushu's spot as their guardian.

There'd have to be differences of course and I'm trying to navigate the chaotic mess that is my mind.

My first thought was that William was the Emporer, his territory made up of all kinds of empowered and unempowered humans, though unempowered people hold a massive dislike toward the empowered people. Will tries to protect the humanborn empowered people by offering up a reward for each one found, where he can have them work for him and be trained on how to use their powers.

Freelancer and Lovely live in an unempowered village that is not accepting to those with powers. So Freelancer learned very young to suppress their powers. They wished to leave but couldn't find it in themself to leave their family with them being an only child.

Lovely didn't know they had powers until a rogue vampire came to the village and attacked them, making their latent electro powers emerge. Freelancer feels their new aura and arrives to help them, healing their injuries when other townspeople show up and the two empowered humanborns are restrained and abandoned by their families.

Meanwhile a new evil has arrived on the border. A strange man with an army of shades has come to invade William's land. So, William has to send his own army.

Caelum appears in front of Freelancer while they're in the cell, Lovely looking at them like they've lost it as they start talking to thin air. Caelum gets the magic muting restraints off and opens up the cell and the two escapes their village in the dead of night. Where Caelum guides them to the nearest empowered signatures, which so happens to be a training camp.

He was taken in by a thieves' guild (which I named the 'Silver Tongues') in Baldur's Gate when he was young after running away from home - who posed or were also bards as a cover-up

He is a raging kleptomaniac, and genuinely can't seem to help himself sometimes

In-game every single romanceable companion in the tadpole gang, tried to sleep with him: except for Karlach. Even the Emporer tried. He only slept with two of his party members, Gale (ofx) and Astarion in Act 2: twice.

His musical instrument of choice is the lute!

His choice of weapon is a longbow & longsword! He actually uses Phalar Aluve.

He and Astarion have a bit of a messy relationship. It's queer platonic, honestly at best. But also, they are kind of in love with each other. However, Soren chose Gale and also believed that the vampire needed a friend, more than a lover. As well as, as much as he adores Astarion - he respects Gale's desire to be monogamous.

He grew up never in one place, being dragged from one city or town to another by his ever-drinking & abusive mother. They were cast out of their eleven town because Soren, was the result of an affair: and with his father being a rich lord and his mother not his wife, well - they were tossed to the streets. He learned how to swindle and steal to survive.

Durge

At first, I named my Durge run well, "The Dark Urge" because I thought it would be funny. And I couldn't think of a fitting name but then it just stuck. Now, the lore reason, is that he really doesn't have a name. So - when meeting Lae'zel and realizing that calling himself the 'dark urge' might cause mistrust, or make him seem pretentious: he simply combined the two words. Durge.

He is a dual wielder! Currently using two shortswords (Knife of the Undermountian King & just a gith blade)

While I am doing a completely evil run with Durge - he is going to reject Bhaal. Because he wants to be free, and as an aasimar, all he has known is submission and orders. He isn't going to become a good person - no, he just wants freedom. To kill who he wants. When he wants, be in complete control of himself and his deeds. Kill in his name.

He had a one-night stand with Lae'zel unable to resist her demanding allure. He regretted it the day after, realizing that he should have thought about it more. But! It did help him discover that sex makes him feel the same way giving into his urges does. It's a stress relief! It also made him remember how many people he has slept with a lot. Almost as many as he has killed. Apparently - casual sex is a habit of his.

He is obsessive. About everyone who comes into his vicinity, and who allows themselves to be under his wings & gain his respect/trust. Whether they be a friend or lover. Durge holds the people he cares for too tight and leaves bruises upon their bodies because all he has known is darkness and blood. How does he deal with these other feelings? That he wasn't built for. So, instead of casting light like most aasimar - he drags people into his swirling shadows and bloodied wings. And he won't let them go. Not without a fight.

Ouroborus

Ouroboros was a part of the Blood War before escaping Avernus

Every time he uses divine magic, it essentially hurts him as well due to his fiendish blood (half-devil)

If it were mechanically available he would totally be an Oath of Redemption

While playing, I have him in his full cambion form, he hides his devil linage and presents himself as a teifling to the party until Act 2 ish (just take away the wings pft)

I plan for him not to use any of his illithid powers, or give into any of them! Something Durge & Soren both did.

He has the least developed personality & backstory of my three Tavs, obviously because I haven't played with him for long. I am very excited though.

Meet My OCs

Morrowind: Neioli Sadras, the Nerevarine. She was born to an assassin of the Morag Tong and a woman from a minor family in House Dres. Her mother, a woman named Lilinore Sadris, was a Paladin of Boethiah and taught her daughter the ways of battle and betrayal. When she was 18, her parents sent her to Cheydinhal where she'd meet her betrothed Farwil Indarys. She greatly resented this due to the man's childish and narcissistic nature, and so she spent most of her time behind the Chapel of Arkay, where she built a small shrine to Boethiah and Mephala. When she was 23, she was framed for murder committed behind the Chapel by a Dark Brotherhood assassin. She spent 2 years in the prison before the Emporer sent her back to Morrowind.

Oblivion:

Daedra of Kvatch: Remus Krately, the Mad-God. Born in Cheydinhal, inside the haunted Krately House, he was born with a close connection to Oblivion and the Afterlife. Due to this connection, he was born with a mane of pure white hair. He grew up in that house before he was 19 and he went to the Imperial City, where he was arrested becuase a guard believed him to be the Grey Fox.

Champion of Cyrodiil: Alidl Indarys, the Crusader. He was born to a priest of Akatosh and a Dunmer woman. When he was born, he was raisee in the Chapel to be a Knight of the Hour, a holy protector of the Chapel of Akatosh. While there, he made pillgramages to every shrine he could find, and made sure to honor the teachings of the divines. When he reached 20, he went on a pilgrimage to the Temple of Dibella, but was horrified to find a massacre.

Skyrim: Sotha Indarys, the Dovahkiin. He was the son of Alidil Indarys and Neioli Sadras. Neioli named him after her old friend, Sotha Sil. Due to his parents fame, they both agreed it would be safer to send him away, so they sent him to live with Neioli's cousin in the Summerset Isles. While he was there, he met an elf name Auryen. The two spent most of their time together, going to the College of History together. As time moved on, Sotha fell for him, but Auryen left the Isles to use his education in a more hands on way. When Sotha was in his mid-20s, he recieved a letter from Auryen asking him to join him in Solitude for a job offer at a Museum.

Great House Sadras has actually no lore, so I made it up. It makes no sense for a house that never existed to suddenly become one of the Great Houses, unless they were not only a part of an already existing House, but also the House of Morrowinds most famous hero.

Also, my Dragonborn is the son of the Nerevarine and the Champion of Cyrodiil. Ever since i started playing Oblivion, I always thought to myself, "wouldn't the best way for Akatosh/Martin to reward the Champion/Hero be to give a boon to their offspring?" Like, Akatosh took one Dragonborn from them, and then gave them another. Obviously if they were humans that wouldn't work unless the Champion is a vampire, which is why mine is an elf.

And yes, my Hero of Kvatch and Champion of Cyrodiil are two different people, that's cuz my Hero is Sheogorath and I don't believe that Sheogorath would be able to go into Paradise. I made a headcannon post about that a while ago.

Let's get the big one out of the way: Caius Saddleback, Dronia's recently killed fiance.

Ignoring that this is actually the Emporer who took Caius' form, Caius Saddleback was a tall, broad-shouldered sellsword with a big heart and a big sense of humor. It turned out, she had come to admire him too, the feelings turned romantic after growing close and eventually, they were sharing a tent by the job's end. He invited her to join their party permanently. She said yes. They shared adventures, he taught her swordplay, she taught him archery, they planned for what the future would be down the road. Two years later, he proposed. Neither of them had parents anymore, so arranging the marriage would be much easier. Well, it wasn't entirely true, his real father, Lord Darian Aquiaus of Baldur's Gate was his real father. Caius simply wanted nothing to do with the man that fucked him and his mother over. Caius took one more job before their wedding, the plan was for them both to retire from adventuring, Dro carrying on the spider-hunting family business and Caius taking up work in the small town and helping her with the hunts. Eventually, they planned to have children. The job he took with the rest of the crew (sans Jalen who recently became a father himself and sat this one out) saw them stealing a precious artifact from an unknown lord outside of Cormyr, upon returning it to the guy who set them up on the job, they each returned to their homes. One night, two weeks before their wedding, Caius and Dronia awoke to the sounds of screaming and the scent of smoke, firey orange light flickering in their window. They scrambled out of bed, grabbing only their weapons and stumbled out into the cold night in only their night clothes to find vampire spawn attacking their village. Caius fought valiantly, slaying several of the spawn with his sword before being ambushed by two of them and forced to his knees as the master vampire, Lord Demasc Volkar arrived, Dronia in his grasp. He explained this is all Caius' doing and it was nothing personal, but he just wanted his artifact back. But since Caius didn't know where the guy they stole it from was now or what he did with it, they were no longer of use to him. Volkar made Caius watch as he drained Dronia in front of him, the two lovers helplessly looking to one another and Demasc watching Caius' reaction the entire time he drained the woman. When he was satisfied she was drained, he waved his hand dismissively, and the spawns snapped Caius' neck, killing him instantly as he laid across from his bride-to-be. He was a good man, only ever wanted to do what was right, even this job he was told he was keeping a dangerous artifact from a bad man, and he was. And he died for it, the entire village did. And every village the other party members lived in. Dronia and Jalen were the only assumed survivors.

Well on the structure side, it's like keep politics out of medicine. Or architecture. Structure is antithetical and inconvenient to politics. So people will just turn a blind eye to the damage done. They won't own it, they won't let it in the conversation.

And, you do something like that and it'll kill you. And it's just a simple matter of learning to read. Getting the education. Learning the principles. Rather than making it about you and somehow you do it. And I think about being nurtured. You can't just take a course. You've got to be brought along by humans. That tradition is gone.

Psychosis too is a political term to cover the nakedness of thy emporer. What's a break from reality? Which reality? Well that's politics for you. It's a break from the reality of your predator. Whom you're gonna need to kill. So it's just an appropriate survival response, cortisol flooding dopamine etc. it's a great state of mind for fucking you up so bad you'll never try that again or ever.

And terms. You can't sacrifice your soul, happiness and future just for money for today. Because you've got to own it, try, succeed in spite of things. That too is political. Lae’zel is off working to defeat Vlaakith. Scratch is still the bestest boy. Volo is also here for some reason.
