LEIGH WOOD: I’LL MEET HIM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING, I CAN’T SEE IT REACHING THE HALFWAY POINT

'Leigh-thal' defends WBA Featherweight crown against Lara this Saturday
Leigh Wood has promised to meet Mauricio Lara “in the middle of the ring” and has boldly predicted that their highly anticipated WBA Featherweight World Title clash at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham this Saturday, shown live worldwide on DAZN (excluding Australia and New Zealand), won’t reach the halfway point.   Nottingham’s ‘Leigh-thal’ (26-2, 16 KOs) returns to the scene of his stunning 12th round knockout win over Ireland’s Michael Conlan last March to put his WBA crown on the line for the second time against a man few have opted to face – Mexico City’s dangerous knockout artist Lara (25-2-1, 18 KOs).   ‘Bronco’ arrives on these shores for the third time with a fearsome reputation, having famously wiped-out former IBF Featherweight World Champion Josh Warrington in nine rounds in a sensational upset behind closed doors in February 2021, ending the Leeds fighter’s unbeaten record.   Wood, who picked up multiple Fight of the Year awards for his sensational scrap with Conlan, has accused Lara of making things personal between them following his injury jibes, and the 34-year-old believes he can expose his opponent's weaknesses on the biggest stage of all.    “From the outside looking in he looks very dangerous,” admitted Wood. “He got that devastating win over Josh Warrington. There’s a lot of things he does well and he is dangerous, but in the same hand there’s a lot of things that he does very poorly. You can’t get away with that at this level with the right fighter.   “He doesn’t have to come looking for me, I’m going to be right in front of him. I’ll meet him in the middle of the ring. When he walks into the ring he’s going to be met with a very hostile crowd. No one is going to walk into Nottingham and walk through me – it’s not going to happen. I can’t see it reaching the halfway point, and I will win by knockout.   “There was never going to be another fight. It was always going to be Mauricio Lara next. He’s said a few things which made it quite personal. He said that I faked my injury and he said that all the English are running away scared."   Victory on Saturday potentially sets up a dream World Title defence for Gedling’s Wood at the City Ground – home to his beloved Nottingham Forest Football Club. The chance to become the first ever fighter to headline at the famous old stadium gives Wood all of the extra motivation he needs.   “Over the years things change, you don’t always want what you wanted when you started. Some things do stay the same. It was winning the British Title, boxing for and hopefully winning a World Title and the third thing is to fight at the City Ground. Now I’ve just got one more thing to do – win this fight and I believe it’s done. “The people down at the ground have really got behind me my past few fights. It’s going to be a special atmosphere this fight. It’s going to be even better. Last time it was split with the Nottingham lot and the Irish – this time it’s predominantly going to be the Nottingham fans. They’ll be singing and making lots of noise – it’s going to be lifting.”

🇺🇸 The rhubarb season is in full swing right now, which means that there’s rhubarb everywhere you look. Not only on pies and in drinks but also with my beloved oatmeal. This time I cooked it in both water and almond milk. Plant-based milk makes it a lot creamier but I didn’t use it as much in the states because it was a kind of a luxury there. The same goes for chia seeds which make the oatmeal a bit crunchier. And then the rhubarbs, I prepared this compot, if I may call it that way, by boiling half a stalk in very little water and adding a tsp of syrup at the end until the pieces are soft. Then I put the rhubard on top of my oatmeal, sprinkled it with some cinnamon, and voilà, your summer breakfast is ready! . Augu valsts piens putru padara daudz krēmīgāku, taču, dzīvojot ASV no tā atteicos, jo tā jau biji sava veida luksus prece. To pašu var attiecināt uz čia sēklām, kuras šoreiz pievienoju un kuras putrai piedod kraukšķīgumu. Un tad nāk rabarberi. Tos pagatavoju, pusi kāta sagriežot sīkos gabaliņos un pavārot/ pasutinot nelielā daudzumā ūdens, beigās vēl pievienojot 1/2 tējk sīrupa, līdz gabaliņi palikuši mīksti. Liku rabarberus putrai pa virsu, uzbēru bišķiņu kanēļa, un vasaras brokastis bija gatavas! . . . #breakfastmakes #breakfast #vegan #veganfood #cleaneating #healthyfood #veganrecipes #homemade #vegansofinsta #healthyeats #fitinspiration #fitnessjourney #foodblogger #breakfastrecipe #veganbreakfast #healthtips #oatmeal #rhubarb #summerrecipe #auzupārslas #joputrasirjāēd #rabarbers #vegānisks #veganlatvia #brokastis #veselīgi https://www.instagram.com/p/ByhQzUsJSNk/?igshid=1a7skjyb1l2fo

Give Them Back
@deethelionprince asked: because you want angst-y things to write can you do a Daisy x reader with avenger!reader and daisy sees her on tv fighting a villain and go down and not get back up and all the angst and feelz
I have no impulse control, @lunalove25 is trying to help me on that.
I also changed it a bit....I’m sorry.
Anyway here’s some angst. AoS is my heroin and this shit show makes me mad but I can’t stop watching it hahaha....for daisy.
@binarydanvers, you angst slut. @mockiingbirds, @never-stopp-growing @whatwoulddaisyjohnsondo @little-magic-matt @marvel-wlw @wlw-headcanons
Why did the world have to take away everything she loved?
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
It wasn’t easy to see her partner leave in order to do their Avengering, they dealt with quite a lot of world threats; but she was brought along with the team, just in case.
Y/N had a habit of self-sacrificing themselves, as did Daisy. They were each other’s hero; they always had each other’s back. They would never let the other die without interfering.
And that’s why Daisy hated it.
Sounds of gunfire, the scent of sulfur and smoke, ears ringing after bombs blow; it looked like hell.
Out runs her beloved, into the fray as they dispatch every single person in their way; on a warpath they went, their powers decimating earth and rending flesh from bone. Poetic, gruesome, but it was what they were best at.
Until a gun shot rang out.
“Y/N?” Daisy calls out for them, the dust and smoke settling in, blocking her view. “Y/N!”
“Daisy?! What’s happening?!” Stark’s voice rang through the comms, “Is everything alright?!” “Y/N!” she screams yet again, until the dust settles. There she sees them, blood seeping out from their wound, some enemies slowly taking her beloved away. “LET THEM GO!” the earth begins to shake and shatter, vibrations tearing flesh and bone alike, “Give them back! Give them back you asshole!”
“Daisy! You’re heading into enemy territory! Come back!” it was the cap who spoke next, running towards her, trying to stop her.
“I’m not leaving with them!” trees uproot, the earth cracks and splinters.
A head of blonde stops her from moving, as the take her beloved away. Her light. Her life.
“Give them back!” tears stream down her eyes, trying to move away from the thunderer. “Give them back!”
“We have to go!”
“No!” she beats her fists against the thunder god’s chest. “I’m not leaving without them!”
“Daisy please!” “Give them back!” her hands hammer against his broad chest. “Give them back!” she could not longer see.
“GIVE THEM BACK!”
The earth crumbles.
“Give Y/N back! Please!”

Dolo Flicks: NOPE - Jordan Peele Brings His Vision of Spectacle And Grandeur With NOPE
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

"This Dream You're Chasing... It's One You Never Wake Up From."  -- Antlers Holst (Michael Wincott)
Jordan Peele, one of the film industry's prominent filmmakers, returns with the third film of his career, NOPE.
The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott, and Keith David.
Peele is one of the few directors working today that commands an audience whenever his name is associated with a project. In 2017, his debut film Get Out shocked moviegoers and critics by delivering one of the most exceptional horror movies of the decade. In a rare occurrence for a film in the horror genre, Get Out was nominated for three Academy awards. Peele would win for Best Original Screenplay.
Before the release of his horror classic, Peele was more known for his involvement in the world of comedy. He was a cast member of Mad TV for several years and hosted his own sketch comedy show, Key & Peele, with longtime friend Keegan-Michael Key.
The perception of Peele changed dramatically after Get Out. Many were surprised and not expecting such a high-quality movie from a first-time director with a background in comedy.
Two years later, Peele released his follow-up US  to wide critical acclaim. Although the film did just as well at the box office as Get Out, it wasn't as universally beloved by general audiences. While Get Out transcended into the mainstream firmly into 2010s pop culture, US missed the mark with its somewhat divisive storytelling and lack of cohesive writing.
While NOPE does stay within the horror genre as a UFO-Monster film, it is a slight departure from the body snatchers of Get Out and the slasher, US. NOPE is much grander in scale, but within that scope, it remains contained with a relatively small cast that focuses primarily on a brother and sister.
The film follows Otis "OJ" Haywood Jr. (Daniel Kaluuya) and his sister Emerald "Em" Haywood (Keke Palmer) after the strange death of their father Otis Haywood Sr. (Keith David). An unexplained phenomenon that turns out to be a UFO (unidentified flying object) or UAP (unidentified aerial phenomenon) begins to cause havoc on their horse ranch as they risk their lives to capture proof of its existence.
Whether horror fans want to admit it or not, the genre is a niche one, with a majority of the most prominent actors and directors avoiding it altogether. Rarely does a horror film come along that gains a broad audience that reaches beyond the world of terror. Peele has purposefully set out to make his movies more appealing for non-horror lovers bringing in elements that most relate to or enjoy.
"I always like to kind of get into the head of my audience," said Peele in a behind-the-scenes feature for NOPE. "And I feel like there's a lot of people that don't want to see a horror movie and don't want to see something that's dark or that's fucked up. Nope, to me is an invitation to them."
NOPE does fall into the sci-fi horror genre, but Peele's ability to blend in moments of drama and comedy keeps a level of fun to his films while still producing tense scenes with a sense of dread. The humor is well executed and well-placed without undercutting any dramatic moments.
Keke Palmer as Emerald Haywood brings an energy to her infectious character and juxtaposes Daniel Kaluuya's stoic and composed OJ Haywood. At times Palmer's character can feel overbearing, and some moviegoers may feel off-put by her. The character of Angel Torres (Brandon Perea) also brings some comedic moments to the film as the salesman at a local electronic store who helps set up the camera equipment around the ranch to help capture what the film calls "the impossible shot."
Out of Peele's three films, NOPE feels like his most ambitious. Not just in the story but behind the camera as well. The film was shot entirely with IMAX cameras giving the movie a range that allows Peele to use his skill to pay homage to some of his favorite filmmakers, such as Steven Spielberg.
"I mean Close Encounters of the Third Kind is the quintessential UFO film and Steven Spielberg knew that when he was making it," Peele stated in an interview with Comicbook.com. "I have so much admiration for how far he pushed and how far he pushes himself with how ambitious he is with the scope of his stories. I wanted to bite off something with that scope in that sub-genre that isn't ventured often enough in my mind."
The film was shot by Dutch cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, best known for his work with Christopher Nolan on movies like Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet. Undoubtedly, this is the best-looking film from Peele.
Also standing out and differentiating itself from his previous films, NOPE, utilizes more of a film score than popular songs of the time. With most of the film-taking place on a ranch set in Agua Dulce, California, the score delivered by Michael Abels gives the movie a western aesthetic and a grandiose sound, specifically in the final act.
The stories that Peele tells his audience all have some underlying message. Some are more deliberate than others. The character Ricky "Jupe" Park (Steven Yeun) is a former famous child actor who now owns a nearby ranch and theme park called "Jupiter's Claim," which brings about the film's exploration of a spectacle.
"The film is about spectacle and our addiction to spectacle," says Peele. "The fact that we are being drawn to it but its also about our inner need whether we have it or not to be a spectacle. To be seen. To be recognized for who we are and what we are."
One side story connected to the main plot is the inclusion of Jupe's appearance on a television show set in the 1990s called Gordy's Home. During a taping of an episode, a balloon pops that puts the chimpanzee playing Gordy in a bloody frenzy attacking the cast but leaving Jupe uninjured. The horses, along with Gordy, are used by Peele as part of the spectacle that human beings tend to exploit for entertainment and monetary purposes.
This idea of exploitation is shown throughout the film, with the main characters attempting to get footage of the UFO and Jupe trying to make a show of it as one of his park's attractions.
"Ian (Cooper, the film's producer) was the one who first gave me the book on Eadweard Muybridge, who is considered the godfather of the motion picture for some of the experimental photography that he took," said Peele in a behind the scenes interview. "That was really the end to kind of uncover some of the commentary, the exploration of this industry, the media of Hollywood, and the film industry itself. The exploitation that is kind of inherent in this industry and always has been.
"That became an underlying theme that is woven throughout the film. Without the film sort of hitting you on the head with some kind of quote-unquote message. I think the DNA of the movie has this big question about the addiction to spectacle, the human addiction to spectacle and what happens when money becomes involved in that."
The reveal of the UFO not being a flying saucer with otherworldly aliens aboard but, instead, its own creature will be divisive for some audiences. The design of the flying saucer resembles an eye, and in the film's conclusion, the flying alien creature's true form is shown closely resembling an angel of some kind.
"The central theme of horror, of the horror engine for me came with this idea of what if the truth is a lot simpler and darker than we even could ever imagine," said Peele.
The climax of the film may be when the movie hits its peak. The relationship between Emerald and OJ is the foundation of the movie, and the family dynamic between the two is what keeps you drawn into the story.
In what is possibly the best moment on film of 2022, an exchange of looks between OJ and Em before OJ distracts the UFO so Em can escape with Michael Abels' score playing induces goosebumps. It's at this scene that Peele triumphs in reaching his goal of creating his version of a Spielberg-Esque blockbuster.
In the final shot, after Emerald captures a photo of the UFO using the wishing well photo booth at Jupiter's Claim, she sees OJ on his horse Lucky under the sign "Out Yonder." Whether OJ survived is up for the audience to interpret.
With the release of NOPE, Peele has garnered comparisons to all-time great director John Carpenter. Peele shut down any notions of comparisons to Carpenter as he holds the director in high regard.
However, the former sketch comedy host-turned-director may fall victim to some of the same types of scrutiny the Halloween director experienced in his prime.
Peele's films are likely to be more accurately judged over the course of time. Carpenter's 1982 film The Thing was lambasted by critics of the time, and now, with its revolutionary practical special effects, it's considered one of the greatest horror films ever made.
A more apt comparison may be to M.Night Shyamalan, whose first three major studio films, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs, also gave him worldwide acclaim. Much like Get Out, the Sixth Sense also entered the pop culture zeitgeist of the time and received multiple Academy award nominations.
Much like Carpenter and Shyamalan, Peele is a storyteller that isn't afraid to be vulnerable to tell the stories he wants on the big screen. NOPE is another chapter in his story as a filmmaker. While it may not be perfect, it has enough memorable moments to be considered another strong addition to his catalog.

[Main story:] WAR RAGES ON IN WESTERN CELESTAN Military presence increase as rebels approach university city of Ghadon [Image: Troops ride in military transport vehicle, their backs to the camera. End ID.] Photo by Diego Gonzalez on Unsplash CELESTANI ARMED FORCES “MUST ACT NOW”, SAYS TOP OFFICIAL [Image: Small close-up photo of Carmine Zugiber, a white woman with red hair and a solemn expression. End ID] War Correspondent – Carmine Zugiber It is unusual for a war correspondent to receive a telephone call on the way to the airport. As a rule, departing journalists are not favoured with exclusive information – certainly not without having to work for it. It was with some surprise and trepidation, then, that I agreed to meet a mysterious contact in the departure lounge for a brief interview about Celestan's domestic situation. For those of you who are not familiar with the conflict currently raging within the borders of this once proud nation, allow me to give you an overview. Rebels in the west of the country – particularly the Ferran Hills and Celestan's third-largest city, Nori – became unhappy with the decisions made for the country by officials in the east. After months of largely peaceful protests which fell upon deaf ears, many in the western reaches of Celestan began to call for independence – an independent state of Fernor, which would encompass most of the western half of the current nation. Peaceful protests turned into skirmishes, skirmishes became all-out guerrilla war, and now the rebel armies are sweeping through the countryside at an astonishing pace. The official who contacted me on my final day in Celestan was Gabriel Herald, a high-ranking civil servant of the variety that does not state his job title upon introduction. “It's becoming increasingly clear that the situation in Celestan is becoming untenable,” he told me, adding that I ought not to publish this article until I was back in London for my own safety. “The rebels are destroying the very land they lay claim to, and nobody in Government has the appetite for a long, drawn-out war. If there is a way to stop the fighting, naturally, we intend to take it.” When pressed on what that might mean, he explained that various options were being considered. “Our priority at the present time is to protect the eastern half of the country, where the effects of the insurgency have not yet been felt. Residents of central Celestan can expect to see an increased military presence, but I want Celestani citizens to rest assured that the Government will not permit the entire country to be laid waste to, as the western reaches have been.” Was there any truth, I asked, to the rumours that the Celestani Government were considering acquiescing to the rebels' demands and establishing an independent state of Fernor? “I can't comment on that at this time,” Herald told me, “but should Operation Lestern become necessary, citizens should take comfort in the knowledge that we are prepared for all eventualities and will protect and will protect our people from any and all consequences it is within our power to control.” Since this interview took place three weeks ago, the situation in central Celestan has developed, and it was unclear whether releasing this article was in the best interests of the people. However, it is now crucial that all parties understand the situation, and as a result the decision was taken to print it in (Continued page 2.)
[Left-hand column:] Inside your paper today... MASKED SINGER BOOSTS VETERAN YOUTUBER'S HIT COUNT It's no secret that ITV's The Masked Singer is a sensational hit, but some competitors may not be entirely prepared for its success. Week One saw an unlikely star unmasked in the form of Sergeant Shadwell, the man behind the popular YouTube channel Wytchfynder. In videos uploaded to the channel twice a week, Shadwell embarks on daring urban explorations and paranormal investigations in order to debunk all manner of conspiracy theories, urban legends, and rumours. While some videos are more dynamic than others – one features Shadwell venturing into the crypt of an old church, while another consists entirely of him sitting in his armchair at home and running through the evidence for an [sic] against his next-door neighbour being a witch – Shadwell, who retired from the army twenty years ago, says hits on all his uploads have doubled since his unmasking. “I get a lot of comments now along the lines of 'this story rings a bell',” he admitted to our reporter. “It wound me up at first, but now I'm just enjoying the surge in interest. We must always be vigilant in our fight against charlatans and misinformation.” (Continued on page 13.)
MP RICHMOND BRANDED “BUS PASS BANDIT” Lawrence Richmond, MP for Toffley South, came under renewed fire for his proposal to scrap the Freedom Pass system that allows older people and children to travel by bus or train for no charge. “We have an enormous budget deficit that needs addressing,” Richmond told the House of Commons yesterday, “if people don't want to buy tickets, they can drive their own cars instead.” Richmond, who lives in an historic 12-bedroom manor house with his wife Victoria and son Horace, has encountered staunch opposition from his political opponents, but his own (continued on page 7.)

🇺🇸 Who doesn’t love to have breakfast in a few minutes or a pick-me-up afternoon snack right when it’s needed. In situations when I either don’t have time to cook or am too hungry to prepare something more elaborate, I go for simple but well tested things like nutritional energy bars. @clifbar is one of my favorites in this category as it combines two of my most beloved breakfast foods - oats and peanut butter. Besides, it definitely gives sustained energy and keeps me fueled for a long period of time because of its low GI. I can eat it just like that but since I’m a total fruit addict, I love to mix the bar into a simple banana smoothie or nicecream just to add that extra volume and vitamins to my meal. . . . . #breakfastmakes #breakfast #vegan #veganfood #cleaneating #healthyfood #veganrecipes #homemade #vegansofinsta #healthyeats #fitinspiration #fitnessjourney #foodblogger #breakfastrecipe #veganbreakfast #healthtips #springrecipe #energybar #fruit #vegānisks #veganlatvia #brokastis #batoniņš #augļi #veselīgi https://www.instagram.com/breakfastmakes/p/Bvbf49lhqye/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1b7oij6evhsxq

A Mutual Mourning (Collins x Reader)
Requested by @sweetsugarhoneyfics: Can I request something Ash? I got this idea from reading Complementary. Collins is dating a nurse, they regularly write each other. One day he's informed she died. He's so heartbroken that he keeps sending letters to her even knowing she isnt reading. Months later he gets a reply from a nurse who worked along his passed gf. She admits she has read his letters and knows how he feels cause she's lost her bf at war. So they start bonding over their losses, and eventually fall in love.
AN: Again not really great I’m so sorry. I’m crying/trying my best through these exams. Also I forgot to add the interactive bit for like an hour oops sorry again

Collins was not given leave during his mourning. If that were standard, no one would be there to fight the war. He was left helpless with the letter from her family saying that his girl was killed in an air raid, just one of the many casualties. He couldn’t imagine anything worse and he didn’t want to think of that either.
He distracted himself with writing his feelings on paper and stuffing them at the bottom of his suitcase. It worked for a while. But what soon got him was that his darkest emotions were underneath his bed, just sitting there.
An idea popped into his head. It was a waste of paper, ink and stamps. He posted letter after letter to a no longer existing person. But to Collins at least, it felt like he was close to her again. Sealing the envelope was like a stitch over the open wound
The time between letters sent grew and soon Jack was sending a letter once a month. Catharsis underway but he never forgot her and looked upon their time together with fondness instead of depression. That was until an unexpected letter arrived one day. It was in an unfamiliar hand. Curiosity led him to open it sooner rather than later and Collins took a seat on his bunk as he read the letter.
Collins,
I hope you forgive the invasion of privacy. I was merely collecting my friend’s belongings to send to her remaining family when I came across all these letters, dated after her death.
I’m sorry for reading your letters; they were incredibly intimate but I couldn’t leave them unread. You see, finding a person who knows exactly what you’re going through is rare. My friend rather kept to herself but she spoke about you often. Forgive me if I’m wrong but it feels like you might be the only one who can understand me. You see, I lost my partner too.
Again, what you wrote was beautiful. I’m sorry you lost her.
Y/N
What should’ve been reopening the wound and restarting the mourning process ended up soothing Collins. There was a swelling in his chest as he smiled at the paper. Someone was listening to him and understanding him.
He flipped the letter over to see that the return address neatly printed with an added PS from Y/N about how the inclusion of the address was pointless since she worked at the same place as the intended recipient of Collins’ letters and a request that he write back if he’s comfortable. Collins laughed shortly to himself. It was barely a huff but it came with the tiniest of smiles and that meant something. He just didn’t know what yet.
The train whistle shocked Collins out of his daydream to remind him that the next station was his. It was almost a sign that he should stop. He’d been thinking about Y/N, what she looked like, sounded like, felt like. Almost smacking himself for the last thought, Collins shuffled in his seat. There was a deep set guilt inside him that he was disregarding his previous love for her friend, or worse only feeling an attraction to Y/N as a rebound.
The countryside was a sufficient distraction for the short interlude between stations and soon enough Collins stepped off the train to begin the walk to his home. It was a forty five minutes trek but he’d just been sat for hours. The leg stretch was good for him. Plus he packed light.
He was welcomed home with open arms and plenty of tears. It was for five days but that was more than he’d had in months. He nearly cried in his mother’s arms and fully welcomed the force feeding he received from what must’ve been a week’s worth of rations.
A series of knocks spread through the house. Half expecting it to be his next door neighbour, Collins opened the door up. It was a stranger, a woman in a dark green dress and clutching her bag.
“Hello,” She said, slightly out of breath, “Sorry, does a pilot named Collins live here?”
Amused, Collins nodded, “Yes.”
A smile broke out on her face and she spoke, “I’m Y/N, I’ve been writing to him.”
She was nothing like he’d thought she would be but Collins was nevertheless blown over by her. Her face was somehow familiar and he suddenly had the recollection of seeing her face in the background of a photo sent by his beloved. She was more charming in real breathing colour than in blurry black and white.
“I found one of… my friend’s letters and this was the return address. I had time off so I thought maybe I could find him. Is he in and, if so, may I speak with him?”
“You’re speaking with him now,” Collins revealed with a less than lacklustre “ta-da” tone.
“Oh!” Y/N’s face broke out in a bright smile that made Collins weak at the knees, “Hello!”
“Hello,” He nodded, feeling a flush stretch up his neck.
“I should’ve recognised you, there was a picture she had of you by her bed…” Y/N drifted off, sensing that this was an uncomfortable topic for both of them, “I’m not sure what to say. I didn’t expect you’d actually be home.”
There was still an ache at the reminder of his deceased love but it was coupled with something else that Collins still couldn’t quite put his finger on. It felt nice though.
“I’m on leave,” He explained.
“Oh I should let you get back to it,” Y/N moved back from the doorstep but Collins quickly interjected.
“Would you like to come in?” He followed and pointed behind him inside the house.
“I wouldn’t want to impose,” She paused with her brows adorably furrowed, “Although, in saying that, I don’t think there was a nice outcome from arriving at your house that wouldn’t involve me coming inside.”
They both laugh awkwardly, hands fidgeting with other hands and scratching hairlines. Eager to spend more time committing her presence to memory, Collins stepped aside to let her in. He didn’t really think through what his mother was going to say, nor did he care.
Albeit initially uncomfortable, the conversation flowed between the two of them and without one mention of the person uniting them. She was still there, with them in spirit. However now there was something new and exciting for Collins and Y/N. The sadness ebbed into nostalgia just as the guilt faded away into remembrance and love.

Star Wars angst. @lunalove25 is one of the peeps who inspired this hehehehe
@binarydanvers @mockiingbirds
Also inspired by this comic. I just thought both Rey and Rose could use some more love! Especially Rose! My baby!!!
Featuring: Jedi!Finn and his boyfriend Poe, Polyamory with the Rey, Reader, and Rose, ANGST
Warning: Angst. Spoilers(ish???) for The Last Jedi.
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
The battering canon was in their sights, they had to destroy it.
For the Resistance, for the galaxy…for a possible normal life together.
They were brave, and they were never going to let that hope die; for they were that hope.
But to Rose and Rey, Y/N, was their hope.
Their simple smiles, their laughs, their touches, their words, and everything about them…it gave them hope for a brighter future; and if they could be together, that would mean everything to them.
That is why they fought.
Speeders sped against the salt laying upon the planet’s barren ground, flying in formation, just the three of them and their allies.
Above them flew Finn and Chewie, providing them as much support as they could.
“Don’t die on me, okay, Y/N?” demands Rey with a gentle smile. “If you do, I’ll never forgive you.”
“Didn’t we make plans to go somewhere for vacation when this is over?” laughs Rose, trying to keep their spirits up. “If any of you die, it’ll be lonely.” “I ask the same for the two of you.” Snickers Y/N. “I also promise dozens of hugs and cuddles-“ “And kisses.” Reminds Rose.
“Yes that, when we are done.” “Then let’s deal with them first!” Rey says with a smirk.
“Rey! Come back! Fall back!” screams Poe, “It’s too dangerous!”
“We just have one shot at the battering canon! We have to take it out!” For Rose, for Y/N, for everyone…if she died, so be it.
“Rey! Stop!” Rose screams, but chases after her. “Rey!”
Another speeder crashes into Rey’s, Rose brings hers to a crawling halt, running over to see the wreckage. “Rey?! Y/N?!” she doesn’t hesitate to flee her own ship, running over to them, “Rey!” she gently shakes the young woman awake. “Rey, wake up!”
With a gasp, she wakes, and the pair of fighters glance at one another.
Where was Y/N?”
“Y/N!” it was Rose who say them first, she gently helps her friend to her feet, running over to their love.
“Y/N!” Rey screams next, dropping to her knees beside them, hands upon their abdominal wound. “Why?!” she gasps. “Why did you do that?!”
Their hands find each of theirs, gently holding them, smiling. “I fight for love, and for hope…and if the resistance dies, you have to carry it.”
“We’re going to get help, come on,” Rose takes over the job of putting pressure on the wound, and with shaking and bloody hands, Rey searches for something to help carry their injured love back to the base. “Don’t you dare die on us, Y/N,” she speaks through tears. “Don’t you dare.”
“If you die, I’ll…I’ll…” Rey can’t speak, even as she pulls a piece of metal over, ready to haul their beloved back. She begins to tear at a part of her clothes, preparing a bandage. “Please,” her voice was hoarse, “Don’t die.”
Y/N only gives them a gentle smile, leaning up to press their lips to theirs. A kiss for Rose, and a kiss for Rey. “For you…and only for the two of you.”
As their vision fades, sobs and tears could be heard.

Tumblr media
Prologue
There were only three things in life that would make you ever go to a party this far into your glamorous life at college, the very first one being a five-star buffet available and the hottest celebrity attending, the second… well, maybe you wouldn’t categorize it as a party, but rather a large sleepover like those you would have on your birthday during your blossoming years in elementary school, and lastly a Russian red-head who had an iron will and was threatening to share your “ugly” pictures all over social media.
You had to keep a mental note on Russians being extremely influential people, regardless of how they do it, except Natasha was the only one you knew so your assumptions may be a tad biased. Although--
“I am so lame,” you groaned, dropping your head into your hands . “I’m sitting on a rooftop thinking about the damn Russians…”
“What did you say about the “damn Russians”?”
Your skin about jumped off your skeleton as your head whirled around to lay eyes on a young guy who was more than drool-worthy standing a few feet away, but his sharp jawline and tousled hair could not calm the racing of the heart in your chest. He’d scared the living daylights out of you and you wondered how you hadn’t heard the door open to announce his arrival, because it looked like he’d been over there for quite awhile.
“When did you get here?” you almost sounded like you were accusing him of scaring you.
He audibly scoffed and slightly shook his head, shoving his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket, before narrowing his shadowed eyes at you. “I don’t know about you, but I’ve kinda been here all night.”
You released a sigh and got up from where you were seated on a lawn chair, understanding he’d probably taken your question the wrong way. You apologized, “Look I--I didn’t mean to sound rude, I’m sorry if I did, it’s just… you kinda scared the shit out of me.” A sheepish expression spread on your face as you scratched behind your ear with a fingernail, very much intimidated by talking to such an attractive person.
He took a few moments that felt as if they lasted a lifetime to answer, and the tension in your shoulders ebbed at his words. “Don’t worry about it, I probably should’ve expected that anyway,” he laughed softly, an extremely charming smile gracing his lips, “and plus, I probably don’t want to know about those Russians.”
You ducked your head, not expecting him to be teasing you already, and the exchange between the two of you was graciously interrupted by the door opening to carry the blasting music and ruckus of the party happening below with the slender form of Natasha. Some part of you, deep down, was slightly disappointed at her arrival as she was gorgeous and could easily steal the attention of the hottie in front of you, but you shooed the feeling away and smiled at her warmly.
“There you are, Y/N,” Natasha crooned. She strode over and paused when her eyes rested on who was keeping you company, she glanced between the both of you and raised her manicured brows. “You guys have met?”
Bewilderment overcame you as you looked at Natasha and the nameless guy, who she apparently knew, and before you could say anything he was chuckling and already saying, “I’ve only known her for like thirty seconds, Natasha.”
“Ah,” she said, “well, Y/N, this is James Barnes. James, this is Y/N, my roommate.”
James stuck out his hand in the space before you and you clasped his warm fingers, exchanging a firm shake as you awkwardly greeted him properly. He caught Natasha’s gaze and stated, “I don’t know why you haven’t introduced us sooner, Nat. She’s the best thing I’ve laid eyes on all night.”
Your reaction was polar opposite of your roommate’s.
“And she’s the last thing you’ll be putting your grimy hands onto, Barnes,” she retorted before turning her head to you. “Y/N, don’t fall for his charm. He’s about fucked every girl on campus and is a big asshole who thinks he’s hot shit.”
You met James’s irritated gaze and he rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. From your brief exchange with the breathtaking college student, you would not have guessed he was an asshole by any means. His eyes, now that you could actually see them, were alight with a welcoming twinkle and his lips were curved to one side, drawing your gaze to wander over his chiseled jaw lined lightly with dark hairs. You could look at him all day if you had to and if you were an art major, you’d have notebooks dedicated to the impeccable young man.
Natasha snapped you out of your fawning and gripped your hand, her fingers cold and making you flinch. “Y/N, this is your first frat party I am forcing you to come with me and have a good time.”
She was already tugging you back towards the door that led back downstairs. “Wait, Nat,” you pleaded, “I left my drink over on the table. I’ll be right behind you, I promise.” She nodded and went ahead of you, her frame disappearing behind the door as you trudged over to the table you were brooding at to begin with.
“First frat party?” James echoed, his body tilted away from you when your eyes rest on him and he was sipping on a red solo cup that had been nestled in his left hand for quite some time. He must’ve felt you looking at him as his head swiveled, expectant of your answer.
“Uh… yeah,” you slowly replied. “I’m not much of a party person.”
“Couldn’t tell.” Bucky’s mischievous smile was hidden behind the rim of his drink.
Now you could understand what Natasha said about him being an asshole. You also knew she would probably stalk back up onto the rooftop and drag you to the party by your earlobe if you waited any longer, Natasha always got bold when she had some alcohol in her so you waved at James and took a drink of your watered down rum and coke, pulling a face as you crossed the concrete to grab the handle of the door.
“Hey, wait!” You paused and eyed your acquaintance from over your shoulder and he ducked his head, his tone genuine as he continued, “It was nice meeting you, Y/N.”
“We’ll probably run into each other again, James,” you shot back and let the door shut behind you, the party already enveloping your senses as you descended the staircase to go find your red-headed roommate.

7 Beauty Editors on the One Product They Routinely Buy
At a time when swiping countless beauty samples on the back of your hand in a packed Sephora is (probably) no longer part of your typical Saturday morning, personal beauty recommendations are especially helpful. With this in mind, we decided to republish this story from April 2019 in which seven beauty editors share the product they buy again and again.
One of the perks of working at a women’s media outlet is having access to a lot of beauty samples. Moisturizers, sunscreens, toners, cleansers, mascaras, lipsticks, blushes, bronzers — you name it, it’s probably made its way onto my desk at some point, and beauty isn’t even my main beat. A beauty editor could easily stop purchasing products altogether and simply coast on samples alone; and for the most part, I’m sure many of them do.
However, I know from my own experience and from talking to beauty editors in the industry that there are crucial exceptions to this modus operandi — products that are so beloved an editor will continue to purchase them, despite a closet full of free samples waiting in the wings. Products that have stood out amidst all the testing and experimenting as “Holy Grail” staples worthy of personal investment. These are the products I’m most interested in hearing about, because I know that if beauty editors are spending money on them, they’re truly the best of the best. Ergo, I asked seven beauty editors whose skin I admire on a very regular basis to tell me the one product they’re so obsessed with they consistently repurchase it. Scroll down to read what they said.

What is the one beauty product you will always spend your own money on? I have sensitive, acne-prone skin, so my dermatologist has always stressed that I use noncomedogenic beauty products, which don’t clog the pores. When looking for one in the drugstore, I discovered La Roche Posay’s Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer with SPF. It seemed fancy enough where I felt like I was investing in my skincare but was still ideal for my budget. This shopping experience was years ago, and I haven’t been able to replace this moisturizer, even with all the new launches that come across my desk as a beauty writer.

How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? It lasts me about two to three months before I repurchase.
What makes it so obsession-worthy? While my co-workers complain about the dry office air often in the winter, I’ve never felt their woes (thankfully). This moisturizer quenches my skin and keeps it hydrated in all conditions, even the harshest weather, which is ideal in New York City. It also gives my sensitive skin a level of comfort every time I apply it, so I know that I’ll never forget to wear it every morning. And using the version with SPF gives me sun protection without having to apply an extra product.
How do you typically use it in your routine? It’s the last step in my daytime routine after cleanser, toner, and serum. I don’t apply it at night as that’s when I’m treating my skin concerns with acne treatments. If you have combination skin, be strategic with your moisturizer. Give extra attention to your drier areas (for me, that’s my cheeks) and lightly apply on your more oily spots.

What is the one beauty product you will always spend your own money on? It’s no secret [editors are sent] various skincare products as they launch from their respective brands. It’s a perk that’s yielded expensive taste, I’ll admit. But it’s also allowed me to find the few formulas I’d pay to replace, no questions asked. You know that specific type of panic—the kind that sets in when you realize you’re scraping the bottom of your favorite jar, bottle or tube when you need it most? For me, that happens when I’ve used the last of my beloved Renée Rouleau Triple Smoothing Berry Peel. If you’ve read my pieces before, this isn’t the first you’re hearing about this product. If you haven’t, welcome to church.
See All 1
How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? About three months.
What makes it so obsession-worthy? The peel is one of those magical products that works both instantly and over time. The formula looks and smells like jam, courtesy of all those antioxidant-rich berries with AHAs, BHAs and enzymes, and feels a bit spicy on your skin when you first apply it. But don’t fret. After 10 minutes and a quick rinse, you’ll notice a real, visible change (it brightens, evens, and retexturizes immediately, and, after a few uses, works to fade post-breakout marks, lift discoloration and smooth your skin’s overall surface texture).
How do you typically use it in your routine? I like to use it ahead of a big night out (after cleansing with Emma Hardie’s Moringa Cleansing Balm). It’s a real gem.

How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? I’ve found that a bottle lasts about a year.
What makes it so obsession-worthy? Years ago, before I was a beauty editor, I would faithfully plop down $60 for Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation. Now that I’m a beauty editor, I’ve tried zillions of foundations, but this remains my favorite (and it’s a favorite of celebrity makeup artists, too). It’s still the easiest to apply (you can even use your hands!) and you’ll get a beautiful, even, glowing seamless base that looks like real skin — or the dream, your skin when it’s on a hormonally balanced, celery juice and exercising five-times-a-week regimen. Armani may not have the 40 shades that Fenty does, but it recently expanded its range. The undertones are formulated just right so they won’t make you look grey or washed out.
How do you typically use it in your routine? I start by dabbing a few dots around my nose and blend out — this is where most people tend to have the most discoloration. I do a light layer first and add on more if need be; it won’t look cakey if I layer on coverage. It’s the foundation I recommend to everyone who wants to see what a fancy foundation can really do.

What is the one beauty product you will always spend your own money on? Stila Liquid Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow

How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? It definitely depends on how often I’m wearing glitter at a given time. I also have nearly every shade they offer in my repertoire, ha. But I’d say about six months for my best-loved shades.
What makes it so obsession-worthy? There’s this funny misconception about beauty editors that we’re automatically super skilled at doing our own makeup. I mean, I’m not terrible, but eyeshadow is still something that eludes me, especially when there’s shimmer involved. This liquid-gel glitter eyeshadow requires zero expertise for an iridescent disco eye in minutes. Seriously, it’s so easy it does the work for you and makes it look like you know what you’re doing. I’ve waxed on about it with many peers in the industry (I can always spot someone who’s wearing it!) and everyone agrees that it’s a true unicorn product.
How do you typically use it in your routine? I love wearing it when I go out at night, particularly in black-gold Molten Midnight or champagne-y Golden Goddess. It holds up impressively well for glitter, too. I apply it straight from the tube using the doe tip applicator and then quickly diffuse the edges with my ring finger. I tend to keep layering it on for maximum saturation. Also, I’ll sometimes start by smudging black eyeliner pencil on first if I want a smokier effect or a more graphic shape. One thing to note is that it dries really fast, so keep that in mind as you’re blending!

What is the one beauty product you will always spend your own money on? I’m sure that my friends, coworkers, #instafam, second cousins and the kind lady who bags my favorite beef patty at Golden Krust are all tired of me singing the praises of Glossier’s Boy Brow (in Black). But I can’t help it. For me, it truly is that desert island, can’t-live-without-it product that I absolutely need to have on my face before I leave the house. It comes second to SPF and moisturizer, and I keep at least two or three backups in my at-home beauty closet. It’s that serious.
!function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? My only qualm with Boy Brow is the fact that it’s so tiny. Since I use this every day (except for Sunday… only God can judge me, so I go to church without makeup on), I tend to run through one tube every month and a half.
What makes it so obsession-worthy? For some reason, it’s really tough to find black eyebrow products. And many of the ones that are available are way too dark. This gel is justtt right, and it enhances my arches without overpowering them. The mini brush is great for getting into those tiny gaps and curves. And the consistency is fantastic, too — perfectly waxy without being too sticky.
How do you typically use it in your routine? At first, I was a bit intimidated by the tiny brush applicator, but I’ve found that the key to applying Boy Brow like a pro is to hold it as you would with a pencil and create those same hair-like strokes using a light hand. I learned this the hard way, when my sister called me out on my “harsh” shape. The formula is very pigmented, so apply it lovingly. Sometimes, I’ll go in with a micro pencil to fill in any gaps, and I always blend the product in with a spoolie for a natural finish.

What is the one beauty product you will always spend your own money on? Glossier Boy Brow [Ed note: This repeat answer was a coincidence, but certainly makes for a compelling case!]

How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? Since I wear a full face of makeup almost every day, I go about a month and a half before having to replenish with a new tube.
What makes it so obsession-worthy? I think I have an obsession with this one product because even though I have days where I feel like I have no eyebrows, Boy Brow creates these natural, bushy brows with just a couple of swipes.
How do you typically use it in your routine? It’s the first thing I apply to my face after a deep cleanse and moisturizer. Then I put concealer under my arches with either a flat eyeliner brush or any brush with a thin edge to carve out and shape my brows — it makes them look even thicker.

What is the one beauty product you will always spend your own money on? Thrive Cosmetics Instant Brow Fix Semi-Permanent Eyebrow Gel
See All 1
How long does it typically last you before you have to repurchase? I go through one once every three months!
What makes it so obsession-worthy? For me it’s like a red lip — it instantly makes me look pulled together. It has the truest pigment payoff I’ve seen yet and has a cone-shaped mascara-like brush that coats every brow hair without leaving clumps behind. Basically, it leaves me with the bushiest-looking brows that are both thick and dark. Personally, I love a super strong brow because I like the way it pops against my platinum hair, but you can also apply it in a lighter manner if you just want to slightly amp up your arches.
How do you typically use it in your routine? Typically I start applying it at the beginning of my brow, and then brush it through toward the arch and tail end, filling in any sparse spots and creating the illusion of a thicker brow throughout.

Zara top (from last season, similar here and here) / Zara midi skirt (similar here) / Topmoda sandals / Gucci Soho bag / Michael Kors watch (similar here) / Mango earrings / Quay sunglasses
Happy Friday everyone! My favourite day of the week at last. It's been such a busy few weeks at work, so I'm always grateful for a few days to breathe. I'm actually back at my parent's place for the next few days, looking after our beloved (and very spoiled) dog while my mom is visiting family and friends in China. There's really not much to do in the suburbs, but at least I'll be able to get plenty of rest and hopefully work on some blog posts!
This look is from last weekend, when I went out to grab brunch with my brother who was visiting. Despite summer ending in a few days, it really hasn't felt like fall in the least bit here in Toronto. We've had consistent summer temps, and are expected to at least for the rest of the week. No complaints from me! It is a little chilly in the mornings though, so I opted for a midi skirt to keep my legs more covered. Also, I've been obsessing over the recent statement earring trend. The ones I'm wearing here are from Mango (and sold out unfortunately), and I can't wait to get a few more pairs to wear into the fall season.
Let me know if you guys have any fun plans for the weekend!

Researchers Found a Better Way To Calculate Your Dog's Age
The age-old wisdom holds that a dog ages seven years for every single human year. Well, it turns out the age-old wisdom has some catching up to do. That’s because scientists are now claiming that the way dogs actually age is more complex than we humans have previously thought.
Researchers at the University of California now claim that dogs rapidly age in their first two years of existence, quickly evolving from puppies to the equivalent of human middle age. They then experience a rapid slowing of the aging process in their DNA until much later in life.
It would be the equivalent of going from our mid-teens to age 40 almost overnight and then staying there for the next 35 or so years of our lives before our DNA began to rapidly deteriorate as our body prepared for death. From the Smithsonian:
“According to the formula, a 2-year-old dog is the equivalent of a 42-year-old human, but things slow down after that. A 5-year-old dog is the equivalent of a 56.75 year old human, and a 10-year-old dog is the equivalent of 67.8-year-old person.”
It turns out the old 7 dogs years to 1 human year calculation was debunked by scientists several years ago. In fact, no one really knows where it originates from. They just know there’s no real science behind it.
However, in some ways, the old seven-year-measurement isn’t that far off, according to the new research. That’s because of the DNA of the labradors in the study showed the equivalent of a 68-year-old’s DNA by the time they were 10. So, in some ways, the folksy wisdom that’s held true for ages is pretty much aligned with cutting edge research.
Tumblr media
From the Smithsonian: “[T]he comparison breaks down after early puppyhood. The dog clock ticks much faster with pups speeding through puberty and reaching sexual maturity within their first year. Then, the dog’s epigenetic clock slows down as the dog ages, and begins to match up with humans again in its later years. Overall, the average 12-year lifespan of a Labrador lined up with the average worldwide lifespan of humans, which is about 70 years.”
If you really want to figure out how old your beloved dog is, the Smithsonian has incorporated the University of California research into a calculator. Although veterinarians and other scientists point out that dog breeds, sizes and general health factors all have a significant impact on dog’s life span.
But there’s good news there, too. The University of California study is far from the only project looking into dog aging and health. A major project led by the University of Washington called the “Dog Aging Project” is looking not only into dog health issues but how to eventually increase a dog’s overall lifespan. Because most of us can agree that the only correct answer to the question “how long will my dog live?” is “Forever.”

And then Avraham buried his wife Sara in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre—now Hebron—in the land of Canaan. Nachmanides, a leading 12th century Jewish scholar, wrote that the Hebrew name for Hebron (חברון) is a contraction of the words chaver (חבר), ‘friend,’ and the word na–eh (נאה) ‘beloved.’ The very name of the holy city of Hebron alludes to its most famous resident Abraham who was the first beloved friend of Hashem as it says in Isaiah 41:8 "Seed of Abraham my friend."
