For a lot of people of my parents’ generation, vegetarianism is still something uneasy to understand. For a generation who has experienced The Great Famine when meat was exchanged with ration stamps, purposefully avoid eating meat is simply incomprehensible. To them, the word “vegetarian” is often associated with Buddhism, and considered unhealthy. The concept of eating vegetables in order to protect the ecosystem is quite far from their reality. Nowadays, an increasing number of young people who live in big cities have adopted the idea of vegetarianism. There are also others, like my dad, is now eating very little meat because of stomach problems, although he used to love it. One of my fav vegetable soups to make is thid fresh but spicy vegan soup. All u need:

2 carrots

1 big onion

2-3 cloves of garlic

1 sweet potato

1 zucchini or in this one I used spaghetti squash

1 butternut squash

this is optional (1 fresh red chili)

Peel the vegetables and the onion then chop em to cubes. Boil em in the water until they are cooked. Squash/masticate the soup and then add ur fav plant milk. I used almond milk but oat and cocounut milk are very tasty as well. This is also optional. Then just add ur fav spices and top it with milkless cottage cheese. Enjoy!

As someone who’s been vegan for 6+ years I feel like it’s important for me to say this to other people who are vegan:

There are a lot of people in the world who cannot access a vegan diet for any multitude of reasons (from allergies, to disorders like celiacs, to budget) and it is not your place to judge them on that. Nobody likes the vegans who go around being snooty and mean. There is no call for it.

In my experience, the best thing you can do, if you REALLY want to try and convince others to give it a shot, is to just share your favorite dishes and recipes. I can’t believe how many friends, family members, and coworkers I’ve had over the years who have openly come to me with questions and for advice for starting out simply because I a) never tried to shame them for eating the way they’ve always known and b) openly shared my tasty ass food with them.

Basically, most of the people who are unwilling to try, aren’t necessarily that way out of spite. A lot of it is deeply connected to the food we grow up eating, and trying to force that change in people will never work. You can’t really blame someone for not wanting to go vegan when their only experiences with it are poor-quality vegefood and assholes shaming them for eating the things they know and like. So just... don’t be an asshole and your whole experience will be so much better

And for the people that are unable, BE SENSITIVE TO THAT! If someone is allergic to corn, wheat, and/or soy, that cancels out basically every meat alternative out there! And obviously there are countless other ways to eat vegan without relying on artificial meat products, but it’s important to keep that in mind! And for people who don’t feel they can afford to make a big change in their diet, BE SENSITIVE TO THAT! The best thing you can do if you’re vegan is to treat other people’s diets like you want them to treat yours. Be accommodating. I’ve found that it can be a really fun challenge to cook something that fits with everyone’s different needs but still tastes amazing!

Food is supposed to foster community and connection! It’s an expression of love! Don’t use it to try and make the people around you feel bad!
