Creature commandos AU: reincarnated lovers ala Dracula
also on ao3
https://archiveofourown.org/works/62724025
What if after the team settles into some sense of normality, with Bride as the leader, and back at ARGUS, someone unexpected comes into the Bride's radar. Basically I took the idea of Bram Stoker's Dracula with Oldman and thought, what if Victor or someone oddly similar, just gender flipped.
So this is the first AU I ever dreamed up for the fandom after seeing the second episode, The Tourmaline necklace, and it's the least developed as a result.
The idea struck me because Bride would likely fall for someone as similar to her old flame as possible, and what if a random scientist dude working for Argus just happens to be quite similar.
Mostly chronological, I don't have the energy to write a full actual fic for now, but the main ideas and head canons for it are here.
- One day sometime after Nina's death and Bride getting that new prison wing, Waller comes in about an opportunity for her. Says a particular scientist was curious about studying her and her status as kinda undead. Of course initially B is like, why would I do that.
- While I could just have Waller send the Bride in person directly, I could see Amanda getting an advantage by watching the Bride's reaction to showing her the dude's file, because lo and behold, he looks so much like Vic. Amanda wouldn't even say it outright, she'd just keep an eye on B to see how much that affects her.
- Turns out the dude is very similar to Victor, from the very pretty grey eyes to the always shaved face to the brown-red ish slightly foppish hair and lean tall build. In other words he's a twinky snack, but more to the point he may as well be a carbon copy in some ways, which gives the Bride some invariably mixed feelings.
- B doesn't show all of those emotions outright, makes some kinda semi sarcastic comment "may as well see what he wants", but it's clear she's at least somewhat intrigued.
- For convenience let's call him Edward. Ed is very interested in her for 2 reasons. He wants to figure out how reanimation works, and he is interested in researching the mental states of consciousness between life and death (wink wink), such as comas, reanimation, coming back from being clinically dead several minutes etc, and what that does to the brain.
- She goes to see him and when she enters he's not facing her, cue her entering with a semi sarcastic "let's get this over with" comment, and him turning around and being instantly struck by the sheer presence of muscle mommy Bride in full jaded asshole mode. He definitely approves of her tall strong intimidating person, but tries to play it cool and professional. None the less I'd imagine he has an initial "huh damn" moment of adjusting his glasses reaction.
- Turns out introducing them was a good idea, because he's as gentle as Victor ever was, as clear on always telling her what he's gonna do and giving her the space to say if anything bothers her. And he does research on her endurance, her brain functions, various other things of the sort, all the while marveling at how damn durable she is.
- For her part she finds him oddly comforting and might even end up talking to him outside of his little tests. I'd imagine initially he has to go through Waller to get her into his lab for every meeting, but then he starts being so pedantically techno-babble on why he's summoning her, that Waller's like "whatever fine go get her when you need her".
- Of course there is the elephant in the room, Bride falls for him hard, first physically and then emotionally, because he looks so much like her old lover, and he is not even aware at the time of this. And even once he does become involved with her, she never says it outright.
- In fact he might find out from checking her file and following the historical connections to the ol' Victor Frankenstein, where upon seeing a picture of the fella he's struck by the fact that they look so much alike. He puts 2 and 2 together eventually, that her initial crush is because he looks like Vic, but it never truly stops him from pursuing the relationship (hence my complicated relationships tag).
- There is of course a big physical attraction part of it at first, and it helps that he's not the usual typical cold blooded scientist in how he behaves and thinks, he's more of a renegade in some ways as she ruefully described Victor in the original show.
- Waller is of course aware at some point they were getting intimate, just as she was aware Flagg slept with the Princess, but just like in that situation she never actually says anything about it until it becomes either a problem or a weapon she can use.
- I would guess there might be some changes from how she was with Vic back in the 1800's, namely at the time he was the more experienced and more in charge, and now by contrast with Ed she is more in charge he's more the sub, if anything. He has no objections to that and if anything is quite fascinated by the tall muscle mommy that could crush him with a single hand. And she just finds that absolute blind trust fascinating.
- The rest probably notice she's a little less annoyed and angry at everything and Phosphorus might even be the one to needle her about it, "what's got you so satisfied all of a sudden", which she does not appreciate. Then again they are rather vitriolic best buds, so she'll probably give him some kinda asshole reply.
That's about as far as that AU went in my head, basically Bride finds herself for all intents and purposes another Victor, and how that would work out (probably poorly once Waller considers it a weapon).
Same as the other Bride/Vic ideas, don't hate and don't go all moralistic crusade on me, I've seen worse more weird power dynamics in tv shows/movies.
Feel free to use the idea if anyone likes it, just notify me.
This is only a small AU I thought of after I watched the series, I have some minor ideas for it but not nearly as developed as another couple bigger AU's that I'm cooking up. But I figure Bride deserves some love, and if it happens to be someone quite similar to her first, why not.

I think the morality of Dr Frankenstein sleeping with The Bride doesn’t matter. The guy uses dead body parts to play God. He has always been immoral.
What matters is why Eric killed Victor. Eric didn’t kill Victor to save The Bride. He did it because he saw him as the obstacle to get what he thinks he deserves. It was a selfish act and The Bride has every right to hate him for it.
He never saw The Bride as a person, only an object he felt entitled to.

It hurts to see a less sympathetic version of the Frankenstein creature than usual (no means no, mate) but at the same time his childlike entitlement and thought processes seem like a logical follow on from the Karloff version of the monster and for some reason I just love him being called Eric. The Bride is wonderful and it's nice to know someone was listening all those times I said "Give her a gun!"

So I really love Frankenstein literations, especially ones where doctor Frankenstein actually cares for his monster.
My solution, make him a stressed man in his 30s-early 40s with two creations who are big musicians and their sons he had to sewn together to save their lives.
I did love designing them and portraying what Frank and Len looked like before they split.

Creature commandos head canons
also on ao3
https://archiveofourown.org/works/62684284
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I kinda like the chemistry between Victor and Bride and wanted to explore head canons of those two, mostly fluffy touchy feely SFW stuff (much as fucking Frankenstein can be sfw). And since apparently ain't no one touching this one with a 10 foot pole, I may as well be first. I'll also say, if it sounds defensive that's because I've seen entire reddit accounts get their karma nuked into the ocean for discussing Victor's motives, not even necessarily defending him. And if it sounds rushed that's because I wrote this at 2 am instead of sleeping in a creative delirium, lol.
Firstly, I'll also address certain aspects. It's not necrophilia because he wasn't into her because she's a dead girl, she happens to be a dead girl by circumstance.  It's not grooming if 1) he didn't even intend to catch feeling and 2) he waited several years potentially making her a teenager if you wanna count by reanimation time.  And considering Eric literally sees her as an object and doesn't understand NO, Victor is the milder of the two evils, regardless if he(Eric) is "mentally damaged" as Gunn pointed out. Hell Vic actually lets her develop her own person hood and ideas, arguably gives her more room to grow instead of projecting what he wants her to be(you want your bride to be able to speak don't you? Implied speak for her self).
With that out of the way, I have some ideas.
- when he's testing her to see what she's capable of, strength, endurance, physical evaluation and such, Vic might not be expecting her to be strong like Eric.  - maybe he discovers this when he has her try to lift something or other and she barely strains when a large human man would struggle with it.  - the good doc would probably be amazed and a little bit charmed, given how in canon that didn't stop him from getting intimate. - she gets quite protective of him just as he was of her(he defended her in the flashbacks explicitly risking his own neck for her, pun intended). - what if after said canon attempt to throttle him by Eric, once she came out of shock she picked him up bridal style and helped him to the bed after he got the air knocked out of him. - she happens to find him more than a little charming and he's shared some rather questionable opinions with her, for the time anyway, i.e. questioning God, choosing things outside the norm, etc.  - this is more of a implied background detail potentially but I'd guess he had to run to pokolistan to escape the various countries that wanted him dead for Eric in the first place, so he got asylum from the pokolistan royal family for a price. - part of that price was keeping his cadaver searching on the down low, another was entertaining the royal family occasionally, and the more unfortunate was the 3rd, taking a wife from the locals to keep good relations, albeit probably a slightly smarter more capable woman than the average house maid. - this could even tie into the joke bride makes about the royal bloodline, maybe Vic had made a similar joke to her almost 200 years ago while talking about the royals being inbred.  - my guess is he would've waited a period and maybe even tried to hold her at arm's length until finally he couldn't anymore, or another good explanation/theory I heard and kinda agree, he wanted to show her the better parts of being human. That includes relationships and sex, eventually, and I could see bride being the one to initiate.  - in that vein I could see her making the 1st move and him going all professor explaining the risks and possible outcomes before he agrees to anything. - similarly I have a thought that he may have used the "tell me what you want" method, ala "use your words", explicitly asking for what she wants, as some form of consent, in so much as can be given in that context. - another head canon I have about the unnamed wife is that there was no love lost there, she was an obligation, and that's also why he agrees to give her kids, 2 daughters seem to be implied. It was just the thing to do at the time after all.  - in that case the infidelity holds true only for the formal marriage not any feelings towards the wife, given he ended up sleeping with the bride.
- Lastly as someone has also said in a couple posts, Eric could've taken a page out of Victor's book and been gentle and patient etc, instead he went and killed Vic and made him a saint in her memory. And he is not teachable, all the while Victor had tried to teach him to be patient and give her time to fall for him.
That's the sfw and canon ish ones I can think of, but I have a whole ass two AU ideas with head canons I could explore if anyone is curious. Hint, one of them involves rocker bride playing guitar. And yes in both I'm still keeping the canon ship of Vic/Bride.
Any takers/curious folk who wanna discuss that kinda thing, I'm here.

Just had a thought that I need to share!
So we all know that one of Victor Frankenstein’s fears was that his creations would reproduce which means he gave them working reproductive systems that have the ability to carry to term, yes okay we get that… but! Here’s where the thought occurs
When making a child the body uses not only parts of our DNA but also all the passed DNA’s that we have from our descendants; a real mixed bag situation… but both creatures are made from other people’s body parts…. Does that mean the children they create will look like who’s ever reproductive systems Victor stole? Or all come up looking like different people because they’ve got multiple people’s DNA swishing around?…
Maybe I’m over thinking it and have no understanding of how babies are made? But I just wanna know if anyone else might shed some light?

this isn't a criticism at all because they're all ultimately derived of the same source materials, this is something i want to say in the hopes i can nudge someone towards a special interest of mine that invaded my brain & will never leave.
if you liked nosferatu (2024) wow, do i have the show for you! with the same content warnings as you'd receive for nosferatu may i offer upon you all: penny dreadful (2014-2016)
filled with some of the best ever adaptations of the characters from dracula, frankenstein, jekyll & hyde, the wolf man & the picture of dorian grey is (in my personal opinion) the most phenomenal gothic series i have ever seen in all my years of being a gothic literature fan, i have a degree in literature, a segment of it being in gothic literature, i have read these stories over & over again, dracula is my second favourite novel of all time, frankenstein is also in my top teen novels of all time & i love jekyll & hyde & i don’t think i have ever seen a loosely based adaptation get these characters so well. do you vibe with nosferatu's ellen hutter? let me tell you about the beautiful, the love of my life, vanessa ives! played by the ethereal eva green! vanessa is tragic, beautiful & literally possessed by a demon. she is brave & brilliant, not to be a lesbian but oh my god, i rarely cry at pieces of media but i have shed so many tears over her & been in awe of her existence, she is derivative of both lucy westenra & mina harker, the calibre of acting from eva green is like nothing i have ever seen, her possession moments is just a masterclass in acting & the pain & desperation… oh vanessa will ruin your life. harry treadaway must have been touched by some acting deity & i cannot believe he isn't a massive name in television & film because he is the best version of victor frankenstein i have ever seen in any adaptation of frankenstein & this isn't even about just the frankenstein story. harrytreadaway!victor is an absolute cringefail pathetic wet cat of a man (affectionate) who sits there looking like he's on ten different substances whilst sometimes going off on side quests with his best friend vanessa & often judges the rest of the squad nobody is matching his freak. he is THE version of victor frankenstein of all time. if there is anything else that man has done that anyone recommends send it my way because that is an actor. rory kinnear gives the emotionl performance of a lifetime as frankenstein's creature & explores so many aspects of that character in ways i have never seen before in all my years of watching adaptations of frankenstein. josh hartnett as ethan chandler… that man's story is a RIDE, he is a disaster & a gentleman. he is also openly bisexual & for no reasons why & in no way beneficial to the plot, has sexual relations with dorian gray & speaking of dorian gray. i have never liked that book, that story has never been for me but that beautiful singer reeve carney made me see so many different aspects of a character i have never liked & is just brilliant because his character is just there to have sexual relations & not really benefit the overall plot that much at all. there are new iterations of mina murray, her father malcolm murray, a grumpy old man played the same bloke who portrayed niles caulder from doom patrol & basically plays the same character, van helsing, a charmingly sinister iteration of dracula & an otherworldly brilliantly acted version of dr. henry jekyll who seems like he had a situationship with frankenstein.
ultimately vanessa, sembene, malcolm murray, ethan & frankenstein are forced found family, they are strays, they are disasters, they are frenemies, they're forced found family bound together, in the most dysfunctional manner, the only one with a braincell is sembene who's too good for their shit & of course my love, the brilliant & the gorgeous billie piper plays a phenomenal iteration of the bride of frankenstein in the most raw performance i have seen from her. i am absolutely in love with her, she is so beautiful & so talented & did something to my brain chemistry. there is heartbreak, humour, adventure, the gothic, the weird & the tragic. this series is something else & that's not even the half of it.
also broadway legend patti lupone plays a genderbent dr. seward from dracula & i want her to do unspeakable things to me.

How come when Victor realizes the bride he’s making will have her own conscience and might refuse to marry the monster, it’s “he’s sexist bc he doesn’t want an independent and defiant woman to exist and he only sees them as reproductive tools” but then a line later he also hates the idea of them reproducing and it turns into “Victor still hates women because he doesn’t want them to give birth”? Like I’m genuinely kinda confused how so many feminist readings of him destroying the bride say it’s a bad thing bc, honestly, isn’t he right not to make a female creation for the sole purpose of being a bride? Like is he not kind of rebelling against the traditional and misogynistic perception of women by recognizing her autonomy and finding the idea of her complying to the role of a bride/mother for a man reprehensible?
I always kinda saw it as him empathizing with his female creation and offering her a level of respect his mom refused him and Elizabeth, considering they’re all kinda in a similar boat when it comes to being forced into marriages they don’t want/didn’t consent to; especially since he would be doing the same thing as his mom if he did go through with his promise to make a bride out of his basically-daughter (?) for the sole purpose of gifting her to his son.
And please please PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD - I get that it’s a joke but at the same time - can we stop with the whole “why didn’t he just remove her reproductive organs?” comment bc not only does it fail to address the fact that there’s a chance the bride might not want to marry the monster but it ironically also augments the denial of her autonomy by saying “well the Monster needs a wife but Victor doesn’t want her to reproduce so let’s just omit certain parts of her body before passing her off so those two men can be happy regardless of what she wants”.
Sorry if this came off as kinda hostile and messy; I don’t wanna discredit anybody else’s interpretations. I just kinda get frustrated with how we repeat the same ideas over and over again and they more often than not just constantly view the situation from a perspective of demonizing Victor. But like idk I might be missing something; can someone please explain if I’m just being a bit stupid about this?

“Eric had no one to teach him”
Victor is literally trying to teach him how to be gentle to the Bride and explaining it to him a way that’s so easy to understand and it’s clear that he’s just not listening. He does not fucking care. He doesn’t want to learn. He just wants a possession.
