Headcanon that TDBK MC can talk to cats.

That's not all, there's a ripple I swear-

(before I get too deep into this- besides it being a headcanon my reasons include: tutorial cat wondering how we understand it, the cats are probably an anomaly as with the campus, the ring can already do some crazy shit, EP 3 and 6 imply anomalies can be more than smart enough for communication)

So, we know from EP 3 at the latest that Darkwick knows pretty much anything that happens regarding Missions or the Ghouls. And what do we find in almost if not all backgrounds? A cat. They also deliver messages, and work, and whatever else. (i have a show going on in the background that I'm paying attention to and it makes it hard to think)

Point is, they probably know everything regarding everything. If MC could talk to the cats, it would make things so funny.

(Let's assume she only learns about this ability after the first 7 chapters, bc that's what I feel like writing. Also campus interactions happen after the first 7 chapters. Probably.)

Imagine MC is playing chess with Tohma (see: cheating at chess by making up rules and defending them with nonsense bc it's the only way she can win) and a cat meows from the other side of the room. A few minutes later Tohma says he's gonna check on Jin and MC says "don't. He's in a terrible mood." Tohma raises an eyebrow but checks on Jin anyway. MC was right. Jin's mood was actually worse than usual.

Leo tells her to hurry to Vagastrom again and, again, doesn't explain why. When she gets there, and Leo tells her to sit down, she huffs and says " I'll only help you spy on Alan and Tohma if you apologize for trying to make me seem useless on the Takeru mission." Sho can be heard choking from by the kitchen. She added those details on purpose. If there's anyone she wants to feel uncomfortable, unsafe, and disturbed, it's Leo. She feels like he deserves it.

Towa is hanging out out a tree, looking around Jabberwock from said tree. MC walks by, hears a meow from a few feet away as a cat walks past, and looks up to see Towa hanging out up there. "Hey there buddy. Whatcha up to?" She asks, and Towa hums, holding a hand flat above his eyes like a salute, and looking around with a squint. "Looking for Haru?" Towa nods. "He's breaking into Rens room right now. We'll probably hear Ren scream in the next few seconds." He does.

It takes make five minutes for MC to get to Sinostra after Romeo gets a hold on Kaito again. She barges into Taiga's room, grabs Ritsu by the wrist (who was lecturing Taiga again) and books it Romeos VIP room thing. When confronted with harassment laws or whatever, she reaches into his breast pocket and turns off his recorder before saying "help me with this as my business partner or I'll tell the authorities about you downing a martini in the Barong Mask mission. And or how Taiga ate it, and we didn't lose it. Or your harassing Jin." She said, before tossing the recorder back to Ritsu, flipping the lever (or however you turned that waterfall off) and tugging him into Romeo's basement.

Romeo gets defensive, Kaito is grateful, and, being Kaito, immediately looks directly past the red flags and starts crying tears of happiness at MC saving him.

There's a point where MC is in line for Sho's food truck, and she sees Subaru and Lyca in line, and moreover she feels a cat rubbing against her ankle, before it goes "mrowp" She knows what "mrowp" means. It's different than "Mrowp."

She pets it, takes out a boiled egg from a Tupperware box in her bag (this cats favorite) and hands it to the cat, who happily munches as MC walks over Subaru and Lyca. She makes a little small talk, and asks if they'd rather sit down at the benches and have her take their spot in line and get their food for them. When Subaru gets confused and insists that he's really fine, and she does not need to do that, she just puts on a strained smile and says "Leo is about to make his way to the food truck. I insist that you let me wait in the line while you hang out with the much more friendly Lyca instead of getting harassed by Leo."

Subaru has no clue how she knew Leo was coming, but she was right. Leo soon made his way over, talked to Sho for a good minute, and left. A minute later, MC was at the start of the line, placing the order. Soon, she was sitting at the table with Subaru and Lyca, when she got a text from Sho saying the food was ready, and she went over to get it. Subaru didn't notice until lunch was over that he never actually told her his order. Or Lycas. She had never even seen him and Leo interact at this point, how did she know Leo was going to harass him specifically?

Then there was that time she had to deliver papers to Rui when he was manning the bar. Haru and Romeo were there, both giving her their greetings before she started chatting with Rui about the papers. There was a pause in her and Rui's small talk as he signed them, where she heard Haru and Romeo talking about something she still didn't understand, despite how much the cats had to say about it. It never clarified anything. "Elias'll have it handled." She whispered with furrowed brows in tandem with Haru, who spoke much louder in his drunken stare. Neither Haru nor Romeo heard her. Rui, however, was insanely taken aback by... Everything about what she just said. By then, however, he was done with his signature, so she just gingerly grabbed the papers from his hand, and ran off with them again.

Oh, and one time Jiro's stitches had torn on his stomach while he was only a few feet away from the lab. He, like everyone else in Darkwick, failed to notice the tail dip just out of sight behind the railing, or the paws going down with it.

Again, it took less than five minutes for MC to burst into the lab unannounced. At which point, Yuri was still downstairs performing an autopsy, and Jiro was sitting patiently on the hospital bed in the corner of the room. Like usual for her when it came to any injury on the ghouls, she was extremely distressed. Jiro had explained before that this happened often and it was not a big deal for him, but she just grabbed a first aid kit off the counter as a familiar cat, one that Jiro sometimes saw peeking in while Yuri did check-ups, autopsies, or surgeries, strutted in from the window.

With a cat laying around her shoulders, MC grabbed the first aid kit, some disinfectant and numbing agent from the cupboards, and suturing supplies. With the occasional meow, mrrp, mro, and other cat noises, MC was able to suture Jiro's wound shockingly well, especially with how she had literally never done so before. He had a suspicion for the reason, but when he asked if she could understand the car, she said no, and he figured whether it was a lie or not he didn't feel the need to pry.

It was when Yuri asked him why there was a neat little bow at the top of the suturing that he recalled the situation, and realized that MC had literally no other reason to be in the lab, evidenced by the fact that she left immediately after, and that it was actually insanely suspicious that she somehow knew within only a few minutes that his wound had reopened. Especially without him mentioning it to anyone.

Um. So this was a small idea, and somehow my brain escalated one paragraph for the Frostheim example to four for Mortkranken.

Anyway, this was my self-imposed writing quota for the day. I started it in Tumblr for some reason so I guess I'm posting this now. I like cats and the idea of MC knowing way more than she should for no discernable reason makes me happy. Like yeah, you go girl, make those guys with several advantages over you in a fight insanely uncomfortable! Give them a reason to fear you! Be omnipresent through way of cat spies! Incite anxiety and concern within your social circle even when ur not there! If you can't make sure ppl talk about you positively when ur not present, make sure they do so out of fear. >:3

Romi is the only child of Sabrina "Sabby" Reign, a woman who never quite left the afterparty. Sabby wasn’t famous, but she had stories—enough to fill a memoir no one would ever write. She was the kind of woman who knew which hotels had the best minibars and which rockstars liked their women reckless. Depending on the night (and the amount of whiskey in her bloodstream), Romi’s father could have been the lead singer of some cult-favorite ‘90s grunge band or the guitarist from a forgotten punk outfit that never made it past CBGB’s. Or maybe he was just some roadie with a knack for sweet talk. The story changed every time Romi asked, so eventually, she stopped asking.

Their life was a mixtape of cheap motels, smoky dive bars, and eviction notices. Sabby made ends meet through a patchwork of bartending gigs, cleaning jobs, and hustles too unsavory to name. She wasn’t cruel, just absent—there in body, but always chasing a dream that had long since rotted.

If Sabby had one redeeming trait, it was her record collection. She had good taste, even when she had bad judgment—Romi grew up on Patti Smith’s poetry, Kim Gordon’s detached cool, Suzi Quatro’s swagger, Tina Weymouth’s groove, and Courtney Love’s chaos. What mattered was that, for the first time, they weren’t just surviving—they were creating.

They write lyrics like they’re stitched together from diary pages and cigarette burns, play bass like it’s the only thing keeping them from burning out completely. They love the band. They love the music. They hate the idea that they should be media trained or sanitized for public consumption.

So I went to Miku Expo 2024 last night (the Vancouver show) and I wanted to talk about it while it's top of mind.

TL;DR I had a lot of fun, while there were some things I wish were different (mostly the screen), it wasn't a bad first Miku concert IMO (But I do wanna see more shows). More under the cut!

First of all, it was super cool to see all the different people there to see Miku and the other Vocaloids. Like, I've been to conventions before and it's always cool to see a horde of people dressed as various anime characters or animals, but to see everyone dressed specifically as Voicaloids and Project Sekai characters was new for me.

About the merch on sale at the concert, I was surprised that they were doing most of it outside and that the inside merch stand had barely anything- at least when I got in. That could just be bad timing on my end. If you're reading this and you wanna buy merch at one of the upcoming shows (especially a glowstick), make sure to get there early. For Vancouver, they did send out an email the day before saying that they were selling merch outside starting at 2pm, but I wasn't able to get there before then.

I did get the VIP package merch but it's kinda.... well it's not bad or anything, and I'm glad to have it but some of it feels a little cheap. For example, the hand fan is cute but feels flimsy, and the tote bag has a really nice design but the heat pressing makes me not wanna use it because I'm worried about cracking the art. On the other hand, I really like the lanyard that came with the package; The art was done by Socky and I liked it so much that I bought the backpack that also has that art.

Onto the show. You may have already heard this but yes, It wasn't the usual hologram, where they have a sheet of glass with the visual projected onto it, it was just a normal screen where they played the visual. It did feel like I was watching one of those hologram-ready videos on my phone but on a giant TV, but it was still cool to see.

Here's also a side-by-side of how the hologram looks vs the display using on the rocks from Magical Mirai 2021 and last night's show. While it's not fair to use a pro-shot vs what looks like a musical theater bootleg sime tutorial to show this, I hope it gets the point across. I liked the setlist also, it can be found at this link here, but some standouts to me were, Miku by Anamanaguchi, The Vampire, Unknown Mother Goose, Childish War, On the Rocks, Sore ga Anata no Shiawase to Shite mo, Gimmie x Gimmie (Love this song so much), World is Mine (everyone screamed at the first "Sekai de" (including me)), the band introduction, Tell Your World (It's not my favorite or anything, but they shot out confetti at one point and that was cool.), and Intergalactic Bond.

I want to expand a bit on the band introduction and them as a whole, I loved that the band got attention and their names were shown. I watched some Magical Mirai videos and I see that this practice might be from that, so I'm glad that was carried over. They all were stellar and watching them was really exciting, the drummer- Dylan was always so cool to look at, Tobias the keyboardist was dancing near the beginning of Gimmie x Gimmie and that was a vibe, the bassist and guitarist- Leanne and Vixen's Diary respectively were fun to watch when they would get into the song and headbang and bounce around.

Lastly, I was surprised that Luka only got 2 songs (one of them was a duet with Miku). I (very sadly) expect MEIKO and KAITO to get shafted when it comes to songs, but not Luka!

Quick shout-outs to some specific concert goers; Shieonn, who made stickers and was handing them out before the show (Here's her Twitter!),

The person near me who shouted either "I LOVE YOU JERMA!" or "I LOVE YOU DRUMMER!" at the end of one of the songs (I think it was World is Mine), the girl near me who was trying to get pictures and video of the show using her 3DS, and this one person I saw outside the venue entrance as the show was letting out who was dressed up as Sonic Miku, I wanted to say that I loved the fit, but I didn't wanna just walk up to you randomly at almost 10PM and possibly freak you out.

Overall, I'd go again but please for the love of god, don't just have a screen for the Vocaloids!

these are my problems with color bass

1. there has been no central collective/label for a year now. Rushdown, the label created by Chime, was the source for a vast amount of inspiration as well as a way for legitimately innovative, interesting, or just plain good songs to get discovered with the Rushdown Presents volumes. Rushdown has been on hiatus for a year, and nothing has came to take its place - the bigger artists have mostly migrated to Monstercat Uncaged, though some have done songs with NCS and others. other kinds of bass music have swaths of labels actively supporting them, like OWSLA, Never Say Die, and Disciple for brostep.

2. it is a subgenre carried, creatively, by trends. the world learned of it from Virtual Riot, who then shared how the color bass doggo VIP of REDLINE was done - by moving every non-drum sound through instances of Zynaptic Pitchmap. this led to large amounts of people hopping in for "use plugin, make song good like vr!!" and the decimation of Pitchmap for like a year. now, recently, Xynth Audio's Chroma is the new hot plugin. another FFT pitching plugin, but with a cleaner algorithm and a vastly lighter load on CPU. it was pushed by the heavily-involved artist Nasko, followed by artists like Paper Skies and Chime praising it. a disgusting amount of amateur color bass is just [bass sounds then fed through 1 plugin to colorize] as well as every atmosphere, leading to an incredibly homogenous, uninteresting sound. that's just for the people who make their own sounds! on the other hand...

3a. the reliance on previously established artists' sounds to make their own music. so, SO many color bass tutorials from smaller creators are "take a handful of Sharks or Chime or Skybreak or KERO basses, arrange them, (optional) add phase dispersion, add OTT, cut out <100hz, add your own sub. then take a bunch of Sharks ear candy and pads, layer them under the basses. add drums" and that's fucking it. genuinely, 90% of all color bass tutorials are like that. and that's just tutorials, what people are teaching - imagine how many songs by these people or those they've taught have done the exact same thing. it's completely generic to the core, and has led to an intense stagnation.

3b. overwhelmingly, some of the only people teaching color bass sound design are the most popular artists and typically behind paywalls. Chime and Au5 are the biggest of this, w/ Chime's very densely-packed Patreon full of sample packs and tutorials and Au5 having a years-ongoing School of Bass masterclass as well as selling individual track breakdowns for songs like Cryptochrome. information exists for free, of course - Au5's "6 Ways to Color Bass" is very popular due to its breakdown between every type of method, but it lacks detail or application beyond "i have these basses made already and here's what they sound like with [x]". it also completely ignores the source basses, meaning half the battle is totally blind. Convexity and Chime especially have videos (Patreon-exclusive unless you just so happen to have links to the unlisted youtube videos :3c) with what arelikely the best at delving into the what and why, with Convexity's having a better focus on the underlying chords and composition. Skybreak has good Patreon videos too, going over specific sound design techniques like Harmor crystally basses and weird pitched glitches.

Astro Bot Review

Well PlayStation manage took that bold risk with Astro Bot.

My brother got a PS5 back in Summer this year and I decided to try it with his permit. I started with Astro's Playroom and it's a really good tutorial for the how the DualSense works. I managed to use my birthday Amazon gift card to get the physical copy of Astro Bot, and man, they really take that gameplay of Astro's Playroom and made it a full game.

The controls are so crisp, it makes perfect use of full DualSense features and that is something other first-party PS5 games has done, and running around in planets is such a thrill.

The gameplay is so fantastic, Astro Bot is such a fun (and adorable) character to play as, he has such amazing abilities and definitely feels like a classic Nintendo character, considering the developers Team Asobi are from Japan, and there's also additional abilities which are a blast to use, my personal favorite is Twin-Frog Gloves, reminds me of Arms (the Nintendo game).

The levels are also amazing. It features over 80 levels, being split across six galaxies and 50 planets to explore. The level designs and platforming is perfect for what Astro Bot as a playable character requires, and the variety of locations on the levels is astonishing, there's plenty to explore. There's the amount of twist and turns in the levels which are brilliant.

There's also a bunch of collectibles, with the bots to rescue, with also finding a total of over 150 PlayStation cameos known as VIP Bots (and more are said to be included alongside the free DLC levels). You can also collect puzzle pieces to unlock the Safari Room where you interact with animals and nature and also take pictures, the Changing Room to dress up with different costumes representing PlayStation characters, the Dual Speeder Garage to customize your DualSense ship color, and the Gatcha Lab to collect accessories to VIP bots, custom colors for the DualSense ship, and costumes. There's so many to collect it's insane.

The bosses are also a ton of fun, all of them are very unique and are pretty challenging, you need to use your additional abilities to defat them and they're designs are great, also Space Bully Nebulax is such a goofy villain but I love him.

I loved how interactive/interactable this game is with so much charm in it, you can interact with the rescued bots, many objects even minor ones, and also the repair system which is super fun to use to. And this game has as much charm as Kirby and this game also reminds of Kirby and the Forgotten Land in ways and I adored that game as well.

There's also free updates with the speedrun levels which are a blast to play and I can't wait for more in the future.

Overall, this is a perfect way to celebrate 30 years of PlayStation, it's love letter to the PlayStation brand and this tweet right here says it all:

I really hope that Sony (and Microsoft) would more games like Astro Bot in the future of PS5 (and Xbox Series X) since it's real solution to the current problem, that game feels like a Nintendo game, from the stylized art-style, unique gameplay, and any other things Nintendo has done, I think they are going to do it (Especially Xbox), not holding my breath tho, but come on, games with realistic graphics are enough, more Nintendo-type games please.
