ᯓ★ thinking about academic-rival!rin
Tumblr media
“you…you’re my rival!” an angry, red-faced itoshi rin had foolishly declared in second grade, after you’d scored a perfect 100 on the latest math test—he’d only received a 98.
rin hadn’t seriously meant it back then, but you took it very much personally. over the ten years which ensued, the two of you had developed an odd dynamic. it was intense, to say the least. you took the competition very seriously, taking every advanced course your school had to offer, and rin followed right alongside you. the obvious result was matching schedules; each year you’d chosen virtually identical classes. you’d decided to hate him, and your rivalry was no secret either, with your and rin’s name always occupying two of the top three spots in class rankings. despite that, he’d never done anything to suggest dislike for you. even the teachers had taken to teasing the two of you, they seemed to love pairing the two of you for group projects, watching you both struggle to outperform the other on presentation day.
“not again,” you groan as you realize that rin was your partner. rin mirrors your displeased expression from across the classroom. your english teacher smiles at you both, thoroughly entertained.
“you two will be assigned romeo and juliet,” she says, feigning indifference. you swear she’s trying not to laugh. the rest of your class inevitably snickers: of course the two who hate each other would have a blast presenting the iconic love story!
“no, no, no, no!” you find yourself telling rin as you pace around his room, pointing at his computer then back to him, anger evident in your tone. “juliet is not stupid, she’s only trying her best to save herself from never seeing romeo again, and inevitably divorcing paris,” you exhale. of course rin couldn’t be trusted with the character analysis of juliet—he was so cold that he probably couldn’t comprehend the idea of love. in your fit of annoyance, you’d walked closer to rin, fully invading his personal space. to be precise, your faces were barely inches away, but you only continue your rant. “you probably don’t even get what love is, just let me do the analysis!” you huff, arms crossing.
you’re met with his clear azure gaze, and, weirdly, he laughs, low and melodic.
“do you really think that?” rin asks, leaning in just a bit closer, breath tickling your nose. “that i’m not capable of love?”
“well-“ you falter, unsure of your answer. and why the hell was he so close to you? why did his cologne smell infuriatingly good, was it le labo santal 33?
“why do you act like you hate me?” he whispers. there’s no hint of mockery in his voice, it’s genuine.
“because i do?” your voice shakes. you’re not even confident of that—but wasn’t he supposed to be your rival?
“hmm, but i don’t think so,” he breathes. his fingers move to ghost up your face and cup your jawline. you’re hesitant to move away; honestly, you don’t want to move. the tension in the air is thick enough to slice and you can’t help but indulge in the enigma of itoshi rin—what would be his next move?
maybe it was all just a ploy to make sure you failed english?
“here, let’s pretend you’re juliet and i’m romeo,” he says suddenly, still hovering above your face. “since you think my analysis is so bad, maybe i’m a hands-on learner.” his hand trails down your waist as he speaks, his touch dizzying. you were probably malfunctioning, because you should have seen the red lights and sirens in your head. yet you’re frozen still, all you can do is stare back stupidly wide-eyed at him, letting him slot his lips against yours and you hate how perfect he feels, how he tastes faintly like the peppermint gum that you love.
it feels like sparks rushing through your veins, you feel high on something else entirely. you feel him smirking into the kiss, like he’d known all along that you would fold the second he tried something. because you had never truly hated him, not one bit.
you give into his touch, into the kiss, as rin pulls you closer, fingers skimming through your hair. rin was the smarter one, unfortunately. he’d known that your little rivalry was only a product of misplaced feelings, because how could the second grade him tell you that he liked you, admired that you were smart?
“you win, rin,” you admit once he lets go of you, gasping for air.
“…i thought so.” he replies. “is now a good time to mention that i might’ve bribed our english teacher for this project?”
“you what?”
Tumblr media
a/n: i never forgot when lya posted ab this omg. ooc rin probably but idc! ugh i’m sorry this isn’t the best

college! fratboy!luke situationship
mdni; this is for my fellow ksig!luke truther @starswillow
the idea of staying on campus for the summer almost made you want to reject the research position you were offered by one of the labs in your department, but the stipend, free housing and meals were too good to turn down. you didn’t necessarily want to go back to the middle of nowhere indiana to live with your parents for three months, which was the only other option you had, so you stayed while all your friends said their goodbyes and went off to start their summer travels or internships in big cities.
you had a plan– you were going to go to lab, go eat, and head straight home. you were going to use the summer to recharge from the stress of your first year in college. you didn’t plan to run into luke castellan, who was re-taking a class in the lab next to yours because he fucked up his final experiment so bad, even the professor couldn’t figure out what he managed to do. and you definitely didn’t plan to fall into a situationship with the newly pledged ksig brother, but here you were.
it started out innocently enough. his class ended the same time you took your lunch hour and he’d see you walking out with the rest of the future college drop-outs like him to the dining hall. luke had never seen you around before, after all the school was huge and it seemed like you’d be in classes that he was too dumb to even attempt. for fuck’s sake, he failed chem 101 and you were working in the lab of one of the most respected, tenured professors on campus. it wasn’t fully his fault, at least that’s what he told himself. he’d been sheltered away at a k-12 school in the middle of montauk for all his life and college was his first taste of independence. maybe he went a little overboard sometimes with a party every weekend, joining a fraternity, and serial dating so much that he virtually had no time to do his assignments.
around day four of running into you, luke decided to approach you. his opening line was a simple, hey, were you in my stats class last semester? again, he knew you weren’t in his class, but he needed an opening to talk to you. you turned around, blinking up at him in confusion because you didn’t take a single math class last year, and shook your head. he shrugged and introduced himself anyway.
it became a routine after that. if you got out on your lunch break before he did, you’d wait by the benches next to his lab. if he got dismissed from class before you, he would lean against the outside wall of your lab and play mindless games on his phone until you emerged. lunch hours turned into dinner requests to late-night study sessions when you found out he was struggling with chem. (his assumptions were right– you were too smart for him. you’d skipped the first two introductory chem classes because the placement test all freshmen took showed that you were way ahead of the curve.)
steadily, luke’s grades got better, mostly because of you, the two of you spent more time together than apart, and your original plan of using the summer recharging was turned on its head.
it began as the typical college fling. putting hundreds of hormonal teenagers in a confined space was a recipe for disaster. your summer consisted of fooling around with luke in the quiet of your dorm, the backseat of his car, and on occasion, the bathrooms in the chem building when one of you was feeling needy during the day. you’d heard your friends' stories of their hook-up culture experiences and you’d been sexiled by your roommate one too many times for your liking, but you never saw the appeal of it back then. but luke sauntered into your room for the first time when you invited him, with thoughts of things other than understanding covalent bonds in his mind.
you weren’t blind. you knew there were attractive people on your campus, but you’d never felt physically attracted to any of them, until luke castellan, backpack slung across one shoulder, with a backwards boston red sox cap on, gray sweatpants, and black compression shirt on. the silver chain he always wore around his neck wasn’t tucked under his shirt like usual and the diy beaded bracelet he had on his wrist was a perfect contrast to his tanned, veiny hands-- and you knew you were fucked.
luke fucked you on the uncomfortable university, twin-xl mattress, drinking in the pretty sounds you were making while his cock deliciously pistoned inside of you. all his notes and books were long forgotten on the floor of your dorm while his hips snapped against yours, teeth nipping at the skin of your collarbone while he groaned the filthiest things in your ear that had you blushing and tightening around his cock. my brilliant girl, but so dumb around my cock. you like that, baby? you take me so well, my best girl.
and all you could manage to do was babble out incoherent sentences that usually ended with you panting out his name, the only thing you’d remember through the fog in your mind. luke. luke. luke.
he loved it. he loved hearing his name leave your lips, all raw and hoarse, like how he knew his back would look with all the scratches you clawed into his skin. he’d pull out, against his primal urge to plant his cum so deep inside you, and finish on your sternum. then, he’d take his two fingers, scoop up his cum, and watch your greedy tongue suck around his digits with your big, fucked-out, eyes staring at him as if you worshipped him. luke wasn’t selfish either, in fact he was giving, which came as a shock to you.
he’d spent hours lapping at your aching pussy, eating you out until you were pulling him off with a whine from multiple orgasms, or until his dick was standing at attention again because he couldn’t imagine a hotter thing to watch besides seeing your face contort in absolute pleasure because of him.
the pillow talk and after-care were amazing too. he wouldn’t leave immediately after your long nights together. sometimes, he’d stay in your dorm even when you left to go to the lab for the day. when you came back, your room was pristine. luke would make your bed and clean up the sticky residues from the night before, just to mess it up again a few hours later.
he never shared with you was that he was in a frat that was notorious for having situationships that never amounted to anything but that. so imagine your surprise when you decided to give into your friends’ insistence and attended the first party of the school year at the ksig house and found luke castellan at the dj booth with his ksig shirt on, surrounded by pretty girls with red cups in their hands. he had his arm thrown over the shoulder of another boy, chris rodriguez, as he screamed out the lyrics to love me by lil wayne.
when luke's eyes spotted yours in the crowd, his face broke out into a mischievous smile as he raced down the stage to grab your hand. he led you upstairs to his bedroom, deadbolting the door, and fucked you like it was summer again.
it wasn't bad for your first situationship.

Nublar Six's study habits
in honour of me hitting the halfway mark through my exams, here's how i think the nublar six would study and the grades they get!!
Darius:
extremely studious
studies in Kenji’s/Brand’s room. cannot focus without being in the proximity of another person
works almost to the point of burnout before Brand/his mother/one of the N6 drag him to a theme park or aquarium to unwind
tutors Kenji on science subjects despite being two grades younger than him (Darius is three grades ahead science wise)
hosts virtual study sessions with the others
makes very detailed flashcards (digitally because his handwriting is terrible)
gets mostly A–A* but probably a B or C student in sports
best subjects are the sciences, particularly biology, and maths. he is so good at stem subjects. nerd [affectionate]
Brooklynn:
never actually learned how to study in all her years of homeschool
studies at her kitchen table (her bedroom is her sleep space)
the others teach her how (except Kenji cos he has no clue how to study either)
learns extremely quickly and gets mostly As with a few Bs and A*s
one of those annoying people who are good at everything (Yaz hates it)
her best subjects are the humanities–type stuff (geography, history, religious studies, economics, life skills etc) and english
Yaz:
pretty studious; probably has the most consistent studying habits out of everyone
very used to studying in unusual places because of fitting studying in between all her track events (she’s studied in locker rooms more than libraries)
has weirdly small writing
usually studies by doing practise questions
has one (1) google drive folder where she keeps all her revision material
can Not be listening to music while she studies
mostly As, A* in sports (obvs), and a few Bs
overall good at everything except english. it’s her worst enemy. analysing literature texts makes her want to flip her desk.
Sammy:
decent at studying but only because she does everything she can to make it more fun
her notes are the prettiest notes you’ve ever seen
ratio of actual notes:random doodles about 50:50
writes in gel pen with big, loopy handwriting
highlighter all over her notes
listens to music or life beats while she studies
carries around every book under the sun, “just in case i need it!!” even if it makes her backpack weigh about 20 kilos (45 pounds)
usually gets Bs and a few As
best subjects are english (she helps tutor Yaz ofc) and other languages. she’s fluent in Spanish, she might as well take it for the easy A
Kenji:
hates studying. would honestly jump down the stairs to get out of an exam. has done so once or twice
also has to have someone else near him or he won’t focus
very reluctantly has to ask one of the Bowmans to sit with him while he studies (they are all more than happy to oblige)
usually studies in the kitchen while mama Bowman is making dinner or doing her own work or smth
mama Bowman was a pretty good student and i hc she has a healthcare job of some description so she could help Kenji with the sciences
used to be a C/D student but since living with the Bowmans he becomes a B/C student
Ben:
hates studying. hates school. writes detailed rants on why the school system is fundamentally broken instead of actually studying.
doodles Bumpy in the middle of class in his notebook and thinks about running around the jungle
has to be forced into studying by the others. Darius has to bully him over video call
if he has to study it’s outside. being indoors suffocates him
gets As in biology, bare minimum grades needed to study paleontology and otherwise does Not Care
best subject is biology. everything else he hates with a passion.

Obviously a 10-hour indie game with a story to tell is not going to go too deep into linguistics (not that it needs to) but I very much appreciate how the way we learn different languages in Chants of Sennaar is connected to the culture of the people that speak that language.
Bards are very big about beauty, artistic expression and class oppression, so, of course, you're going to learn their language mostly through theater plays and people mocking you.
You don't really get to talk to Alchemists, but much like their whole thing is about sciences, you mostly learn their language by looking through maps and diagrams, solving math puzzles, and even being tricked into directing your attention to the clock (a game design trick that is so simple but effective it's actually hilarious). You can say that level is my favorite.
Warriors shout commands and Anchorites were isolated into the virtual world, so the process is automated through a series of word connecting puzzles.
Can't put my finger on Devotees. I would say primarily socialization, as the very first puzzle that lets you into the town is about lending a hand to another person (same with the mysterious kid helping you enter the Abbey).
I just love this game, okay?

Hi, I'm the asker with the SJ magazines. I do have those bonus pages! I uploaded them here (tinyurl/3w5ssa3b) & on imgur (/a/EUYFaMt). They're part of a bonus segment included in the volumes - I wrote about it on the wiki (/One_Piece_School#Bartolomeo's_New_Wo_Student_List), but it's pretty short since I can't read it. And no need to force yourself for other chapters! I'm happy for anything OP to be translated, no matter the amount. Similarly, would you want any future Law/School stuff?
😭😭😭😭 THANK YOU!!!!
woah these are some great details??
Longpost ahead, here's a summary of Bartolomeo's New World Middle investigation notes!
SH and friends' favorite school subjects

Coby: (Currently improving in) all subjects
(Buggy is mad about not being included ha)
Classroom Layout
Tumblr media
The four free seats are for students who randomly join from other grades and classes (ie. Hancock). Upper left features a special corner for Uta to join virtually. (She can also sit beside everyone randomly and make friends, as shown at the bottom)
Yamato is contemplating about where to seat after transferring to NW Middle, Luffy says "come join us ASAP and let's have fun at school!*
Luffy senpai's relationship chart
Tumblr media
Other than ones I've previously translated, here are the rest:
Barto -> Luffy: "LU-LU-LU-LU-LUFFY-LUFFYYY SENPAI!!"
Luffy -> Barto: "Do you know me?"
Croc -> Luffy: "I can take you on a great adventure. So come to my side."
Luffy -> Croc: "You come to MY class! (?)"
Kaido -> Luffy: "I'll push you down the pits of hell."
Luffy -> "Try me whenever you want!"
Kaido -> Yamato: "Become Oni Middle's representative!"

Aokiji -> Luffy: "Well.. try to get along with everyone, would you.."
Backpack Sneak peek
Doing the entire page for this one.
Tumblr media
Uniforms, emblems
Tumblr media
NWS has relaxed rulings on uniforms. Boys are allowed to wear whichever shirt they want under their gakuran, girls can choose the color of their scarves. Teachers have their uniform too but Aokiji (probably all teachers) don't really care.
The section below are rejected school emblems proposed by students. Aokiji was lazily okaying all of them but Smoker kept him in line lol
Luffy's Design
Luffy: The meat turned out lookin' really tasty, right?
Coby: Isn't it an assortment of Luffy san's treasures?
Usopp's Design (the Kanji says "New")
Usopp: Well, this is how it'll turn out if it's Me to decide.
Nami: Great drawing but too self-assertive!
Robin's Design (She wrote "New" and drew a world. Perfect)
Chopper: Scary! What's this? Why a face??
Robin: It's cuter like that.
Chatroom photos
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lowkey contemplating about lettering all of them but I think I've kept the ask hanging long enough 🙈 These are adorable!
Lack of source has always been frustrating, but I don't think Law has a lot of extra contents to miss out on 😩 If I find something I'd like to source-check, I'll make sure to knock you, so thanks again! ❤️❤️

Building my own school curriculum for AgeRe.
Special Notes: I'm in no community, and everything is 100% Safe for Work.
Personal Notes: Making my own "School" helps me overwrite my bad school memories from when I was a kid, and provides me with a necessary routine for my daily life. Without my routines, i have problems with my days blurring together and issues with taking care of myself.
Everything is under the cut!
Think about what you LIKED from school. As a kid, art class and library were my favorite moments from school-- so my "school" has a heavy lean towards Art and Reading. For this, I look up (simple) art prompts online and follow them, make my own art for fun, make my own "art projects" and more. For Library, I go to my local library AND I use the Libby app so I can read multiple books on-the-go! (The books I end up loving, I purchase an actual copy eventually!)
I loved Field Trips, too! For that, I write down a place I really want to visit-- and i visit it someday!
Also, I still do "Related Arts" classes.
Art: Make art with items I already have.
Music: Learn to read sheet music, and play an instrument I have. (You can play a virtual piano if you have a tablet, or practice drums on an upside-down bucket!)
Library: Read a book/Visit my library
Computer: Visit educational Websites
Physical Education: Learn exercises and play outside!
For Education, I use KhanAcademy and find worksheets to fill out online! I chose my grade level by going to the grade level I began struggling with (3rd grade was when I started doing badly in school, so I'm "redo-ing 3rd grade"! This helped my improve and gain confidence in my math skills as an adult!)
I'm autistic and have VERY INTENSE special Interests, so I made a class dedicated to learning more about my interests!
"Self Care Classes and their Rewards"
I made a punch card for my self care goals, And when the whole card is complete, I get myself a reward (or "save up" my points for a big prize! I'm saving for Noise Canceling Headphones!)
My goals are: Brush Teeth twice a day for _ days total, take a shower once daily for _ days total, do at least one chore for _ days total, drink at least _ bottles of water for _ days total, etc. I don't punish myself for forgetting things, that just means it'll take a little longer to reach my prize goals!
I have a separate punch card made for "days I went to work"!
When do you "go to school"?
I do this kind of schooling every day, usually when I'm bored and don't know what else to do-- or right before or right after work. There's no rules or attendance policy. Your New School experience should be tailored to your needs! At the end of the day, this is mostly just for fun!
For fun, try to make your "school mascot" your favorite animal! My school "mascot" is a Sun Bear!
I might add to this post later! Bye bye!

get to know your mutuals ★ tag game.
saw this doing rounds on my dash and i love yapping! ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧
what's the origin of your blog title? it's a reference to my favorite NIKI song, sugarplum elegy. ylang refers to a filipino flower— the ylang-ylang.
favorite fandoms: i'm not in fandom as much as i used to be, but every so often i do go back to broadway 'fandoms'. happy 10 years to hamilton. man.
OTP(s)/shipname: i was big on fremione (harry potter) and enjonine (les miserables). dark times.
favorite color: orange or brown! specifically in the shades of #f28500 and #5e2co4, lol. i love color palettes.
favorite game: walk with me now, but harvest moon: animal parade. absolutely guts me that it was for the wii and is now virtually unplayable elsewhere.
song stuck in your head: for quite some time now, it's been 711 by toneejay.
weirdest habit/trait? when bored on transport, i play word games with anything i see that has letters i.e. if i see a plate number that says 'PUV', i have to think of words that start with p, u, and v before moving on to the next. no repeats.
hobbies: junk journaling, hand-building with clay, and baking anything that involves puff pastries.
if you work, what's your profession? a news story editor for broadcast television. communications consultant for a foundation, too.
if you could have any job you wish, what would it be? proprietor of a flower shop that's also a bookstore/library. alternatively, i want to teach english literature to uni freshmen.
something you're good at: making lists. love lists. of all kinds. on all platforms. if it can be made into a list, i am doing it.
something you're bad at: anything that requires consistency/forming habits. i'm bad at keeping up with things because i'm bigger on random bursts of energy.
something you love: a good poem. recent good read would be laura fargas' if there is a.
something you could talk about for hours off the cuff: the harvest moon/story of seasons franchise. also, button poetry classics.
something you collect: coins/loose change from different countries. cameras, too, although that one is less of an intent to collect and more of a hobby over the years. recently secured a kodak ektar half-frame i've been eyeing for months!
something you forget: what my closest friends do for a living. i know it in the vaguest terms, but i could not tell you for the life of me what they do at work.
what's your love language? receiving/giving gifts.
favorite movie/show: my all-time favorite movie has indisputably been the truman show (1998) for quite some time, while my favorite filipino film is distance (2018). the good place is my favorite series; chidi anagonye, the love of my life.
favorite food: naan or cua pao with absolutely anything. chicken ala king is preferred.
favorite animal: elephants or quokkas.
are you musical? can't hold a note to save my life, can't play any instruments. but i love, love, love karaoke.
what were you like as a child? a lot as how i am right now, although probably a lot more attention-seeking and dramatic.
favorite subject at school? to absolutely no one's surprise, english. in uni, it was specifically english literature. although something that comes as a close second would be my philosophy and theology electives.
least favorite subject? to absolutely no one's surprise (2), math. in uni, i didn't do very well in my spanish foreign language class and i passed environmental science by the skin of my teeth.
what's your best character trait? i like to think that i have a healthy curiosity for most things.
what's your worst character trait? as of late, procrastination i.e. thinking i have more time to do something.
if you could change any detail of your day right now what would it be? i wish i had the energy to sort through my clothes closet.
if you could travel in time who would you like to meet? my maternal great grandmother. she sounds really badass (e.g. lived through the japanese occupation, raised 12 kids on her own, owned a coffee plantation).
recommend one of your favorite fanfics (spread the love): viv's (heartepub) something in the orange. i've already annotated it, but i stand by what i said back then— one of the best pieces of work you will find not only on svtblr, but on the whole damn internet.
🍊 if you want to do this yourself, just say i tagged you! <3

Heyyy again. Sorry if I bug you with questions, I just found your blog so helpful over the years. Is teaching really a bad career to go in these days? I’m looking into substituting to get a taste of what it’s like at a Christian school. But after seeing all the people coming out of the woodwork giving horror story after story, I’m starting to second guess…I know it’s bad but damn looking at some comments lately has me questioning my decision….
Hi!
For private school, it really depends on the school. If you’re thinking about teaching at a particular school, I definitely recommend subbing/volunteering to see if you like it. Unfortunately, many of them now are virtually indistinguishable from public schools besides having chapel time and Bible classes.
You also need to look at what the salaries are for those teachers and whether that is enough for you to make ends meet - it’s the reason I didn’t go private school when I became a teacher, even though I would have loved to.
For public school, I would absolutely say stay away.
I’m hoping to make a career change in the next year to get out of teaching, but if things go the way I hope I may have some extra time in my schedule, in which case I would consider teaching a class or two for a local private school that does a la carte classes for homeschool students (aka you can take just a math class or just a history class or just a theatre class)
I love the actual teaching part, but I feel less and less like I’m actually able to teach.
