Bivalent COVID-19 vaccines for general population allowed
More patients around the country can avail of the bivalent vaccines for COVID-19 as a result of the Department of Health’s (DOH) revision of its guidelines, according to a Manila Times news report. This developed as less than 50% of the initial batch of bivalent vaccines have been used on patients limited to health care workers and senior citizens. To put things in perspective, posted below is…

Quarantine
Harry Hart x Reader Warnings: A little swear word. Word Count: 1,345 A/N: Surprise? I’m back again with another story! Started writing this about two weeks in after the world started to shut down. Maybe I should’ve put that as a trigger warning. To some, the lockdowns and the pandemic may be traumatic. Is it too soon to write about the pandemic? So, if you're following me on Twitter, you probably know that I've had covid once again. I tested positive on the antigen test after I experienced headaches and colds, and then I lost my sense of taste the day after. I think that pretty much confirms the accuracy of the test. My symptoms are mild and have improved since. I'm on my 5th day of isolation today. Thank you for the get well wishes! Much appreciated.
The title might sound boring, but I hope what I've written is not.
Tumblr media
"I'm going to have to require you two for quarantine. We have to make sure you weren't infected. As we speak, both of your places are being prepared. But, you two are going to have to pick who's flat you’re going to stay at for 21 days. I need you two to look after the other, and support each other while in isolation." Merlin said as if he was giving you two a mission brief through the screen.
Your mission overseas went well. However, with the rising number of cases of nCoV all over the world, Kingsman couldn’t risk an infection within the agency. Even if they’re stocked and well-equipped to handle a case or the quarantine of their agents, they deemed it would be better for your overall health to stay at your own home, or whichever would be decided.
You opened your mouth to try to say something but Harry beat you to it. "I think it would be best to stay at (Y/N)'s place." He suggested. "(Y/N), do you agree?" Merlin asked you. "Yeah, sure." You haven’t thoroughly thought about this, you just agreed because it seemed like the proper answer at the moment. "Very well then. I'll have your things prepared, Harry. Anything you might need out of the usual aside from your clothes, toiletries, electronics, books?" "Let me think about it. I'll put it on the list if any. Thank you, Merlin. I'll be in my room packing a few of my things." Harry said to you and to Merlin, then he left.
"Merlin, I think it'll be better to convert the room I use as my home office for Harry's room while he's there?" You asked although it was more of a suggestion. "I was meaning to ask you that. I'll finalize the furniture orders.” You could hear his keyboard clacking, “And done. How about you? Do you need anything?" "Uh, I lost my yoga mat. I think I'll need one." "Added to the list. Anything else?" "Let me think about it too. I'll ring you if I've come up with something. Thanks, Merlin, you're the best."
As you walked back to your room inside the Kingsman mansion, you realized you were not exactly fond of the idea of having to live with Harry for weeks. You’re not used to sharing your space with someone. Harry would essentially be moving in. He’s probably not a bad roommate though, you just know it’s going to be a huge adjustment, especially with the fact that both of you aren’t allowed to go outside for weeks.
It took the whole day, but considering the norm outside of Kingsman, the furniture and other essential deliveries were fast. Your flat was spick and span, and your home office, Harry’s room, for the time being, was set up as if he’d been living there for quite a while.
You unlocked the door and welcomed Harry to his new temporary home. You gave him a little tour of the place, though there isn’t much to see. The last stop of the tour is his room, and you left him to get settled. “Thank you, (Y/N).”
The next thing you did was take a shower to wash off the day. You were poked and prodded by the Kingsman staff in personal protective equipment while waiting to be sent home. Both of your and Harry’s lab results are normal, but it’s not enough assurance that none of you caught the virus.
Merlin sent you home with a feast of takeout food for you and Harry, knowing you’re both exhausted to cook on your first night in quarantine. It’s almost unbelievable he’s human with all that brainpower to think of everything and then execute those things.
After dressing in your pajamas, you went downstairs to reheat the food, but Harry had the same idea. He was already in the middle of setting the table. “Dinner would be ready in a few m–“ the ding of the oven interrupted him, “–oh, moments.”
You were sat across from each other at your 4-seater dining table. Although this was your flat, it felt foreign to be in it with Harry. You’re not exactly close to him and have never hung out with him outside of Kingsman, you get to train and sent on missions paired up together, but you haven’t really bonded with him on a personal level. Now suddenly, you’re living with him.
There was a little small talk, including agreeing on how good was the food, “I have to ask Merlin where he got this because this is good,” you said. “Just don’t tell him that it was good, otherwise he’d say that he’s the one who made it.” And you shared a laugh.
Harry would’ve also done the dishes had you not insisted it should be your turn. If you had to pry the plates off his hands, you would. Besides, there’s still plenty of time for him to do the dishes as he pleased. Thankfully, he let you do it without a fight.
The next morning, Harry was already up before you were. When you arrived downstairs, everything was already set on the table. He was probably reading the morning news on his iPad.
“Good morning. Time to eat.” “Sorry, have you been waiting long? You should’ve had breakfast ahead without me.” “Nonsense.” He then poured you a cup of tea and you smiled in return.
The rest of the breakfast went by uneventfully, by now Harry has caught on with the division of tasks, but it’ll be better to talk with him about this just to be clear. You both got separate instructions from Merlin and had to do a daily medical log while in quarantine. So the two of you disappeared into your rooms to do that and some other paperwork.
By lunch, you finally went over with Harry the division of tasks. It’s not like you were setting house rules, it’s just so that you both pull your weight around the house, and not feel like a burden to the other. He did have some questions, suggestions, and other things he would like to do while he’s at your place. You have a small lawn in your backyard, and he asked about your plans for the place. He suggested it could be improved with a few plants, aside from the faded lawn chairs and the wild grass that has survived on its own. You agreed to let him do whatever he thinks would be good. He gave up living in his own flat probably thinking of your own comfort, this is the least you could do for him.
And then the rest of the week was spent with the following routine, except on the weekend.
Morning workout
Taking turns cooking breakfast or doing the dishes
Taking a shower
1-2 hours of desk work
Lunch. Again, whoever’s in charge of the cooking and the cleaning up
A little tidying up of the house or your room
Few more paperwork
The rest of the day goes on without a specific task at hand. Sometimes you do a bit more workout. Sometimes you try to finish a few of the personal projects you’ve started a while ago. Sometimes, you do a bit more online shopping.
Dinner. Dinner arrangement. You know how it works.
But you often end the day with a bath and skincare or a self-care (Yes, you’re a bad-ass agent and you’re also a huge fan of self-care)
By Saturday, you went on with your usual weekend plan of not getting out of bed until your stomach complained that it was hungry. However, you suddenly jumped out of bed, ran to the bathroom, quickly brushed your teeth, and washed your face.
You were doing a half-run going downstairs and yelled an apology. “Fuck, I’m so sorry.” “I was beginning to think you died in your sleep,” Harry said, and you playfully pushed him on his shoulders.
It wasn't that late, just half-past nine, but Harry surely had been waiting for quite a while.
_____________________________________________________
Another A/N: Too light? Needs a bit more plot? Part 2? Yes. I’m just warming up. ;) Do you want this to be a series? You can suggest things. Let me know!

Public and Racket have just published a pair of stories about a scientific cover-up and the manufacture of a major media deception, respectively, in the Covid-19 crisis. Both stories rely upon newly released documents from the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, which is investigating communications between the authors of the influential Nature article from March, 2020, The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2, and health officials like Drs. Anthony Fauci, Francis Collins, and Jeremy Farrar.
You can read the backstory involving these documents in the two pieces linked above. The key characters are Proximal Origin co-authors Dr. Kristian Andersen, Dr. Robert Garry, Dr. Andrew Rambaut, Dr. Edward Holmes, and Dr. Ian Lipkin. Here, I thought Racket readers might benefit from a simple list of illustrations showing key exchanges. You can draw your own conclusions:
Jeremy Farrar, now of the WHO, not only edited the Nature draft, he made a key change to its most quoted line:
Tumblr media
Proximal Origin Co-Author Kristian Andersen makes reference to a draft being ready to “go up the chain”:
Tumblr media
Dr. Garry mentions that some may not like an early draft because it “allows… the nCoV may have arisen during cell culture passage in a lab (their labs).”
Tumblr media
Farrar will “push Nature” to get the article out “ASAP”:
Tumblr media
Andersen gets rejection letter from Nature, with concern about “whether such a piece would feed or quash the conspiracy theories”:
Tumblr media
Andersen laments that a draft doesn’t “refute a lab origin” which “must be considered as a serious scientific theory” and “not dismissed out of hand as a conspiracy theory”:
Tumblr media
Co-author Ian Lipkin is not only “very worried about the furin cleavage site,” but “high ups are as well, inc. intel”:
Tumblr media
“Close enough?” Co-authors propose cartoon image of EcoHealth Alliance’s Peter Daszak:
Tumblr media
Dr. Holmes: “Good idea not to mention all the other anomalies as this will make us look like loons.”
Tumblr media
Garry roots for Trump to “say more dumb stuff about the origins of the China virus, possibly poisoning Sino-American relations for decades,” then asks, “Does this make me a bad person?”
Tumblr media
Holmes on news that Lipkin has contracted Covid-19: “Well, that’s made my day.”
Tumblr media
Andersen “still leaning towards” cell culture hypothesis:
Tumblr media
“The furin would be the first thing to add for sure.”
Tumblr media
“Whatever has happened here, the virus has become very quickly loaded for human transition.”
Tumblr media
Andersen: “The presence of furin moves me a posteriori slightly more towards accidental release..”

“I’m not disabled, but I feel like I can relate to your disability content because of my depression/anxiety/PTSD/etc” Oh friend, I have some news for you whenever you’re emotionally ready to hear it… Gentle reminder that a disability is defined as any medical condition that impacts your ability to function and/or interact with the world around you. The severity of anyone else’s disability is irrelevant. And disability doesn’t look any specific way. Please don’t deprive yourself of community (and accommodations!!) because you’re worried that you’re not “disabled enough” to take up space here. One more addition that I think is necessary based on multiple comments: The identity of Being Disabled =/= receiving or qualifying for government benefits. Please don’t confuse the two in this late-stage capitalist society the frequently promotes various degrees of eugenics✌🏻
By the way:
Late in 2021 and largely under the radar, a variety of mental health conditions were added to the CDC's list of preexisting conditions that are higher risk indicators for adverse effects of COVID & long COVID. More info:
https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/22783685/covid-19-depression-mental-health-risks-immunology
https://psychcentral.com/news/cdc-adds-mental-health-conditions-to-high-risk-covid-list#What-the-research-says
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html#MedicalConditionsAdults
Beyond the usual assumed reasons why, this one (via Vox above) is interesting:
But the scientific literature does find links between mental health and immune system health. The biggest one: Studies have reported that many people with depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia (as well as other mental health issues not highlighted as Covid-19 risk factors by the CDC) have higher levels of inflammation throughout the body. ... When inflammation is short-lived, it can help clear out an infection. When it is chronic, it can cause problems. It wears on the heart and can contribute to illnesses like diabetes. When it comes to Covid-19, scientists suspect that underlying inflammation — or underlying dysregulation of the immune system — is what causes some patients’ bodies to overreact to the virus, causing the worst symptoms that can land people in hospitals and lead to death.
Finally, this might help to know:
via Dr. Janina Scarlet
If you’re going through COVID and get hit with a sharp increase in depression, know that it’s temporary, know that it passes, and know that you’re not alone.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is the infectious disease known as coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The majority of virus-infected individuals will experience a mild to severe respiratory disease and will recover without the need for special care. However, some people will get serious illnesses and need to see a doctor. Serious sickness is more likely to strike older persons and those with underlying medical illnesses including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or chronic respiratory diseases. COVID-19 can cause anyone to become very ill or pass away at any age.
Being knowledgeable about the illness and the virus's propagation is the best strategy to stop or slow down transmission. By keeping a distance of at least one meter between people, donning a mask that fits properly, and often washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub, you can prevent infection in both yourself and other people. When it's your turn, get your vaccination, and abide by any local advice.
Time flies, it seems like it all started yesterday. On January 30, the result of the initial NPS/OPS sent to VIDRL reported detection of 2019-nCoV (subsequently termed SARS-CoV-2) viral RNA by real-time PCR. The patient was thus identified by the Department of Health as the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the Philippines. It started with 3 days without school, it became 2 weeks until the lockdown. Many establishments were closed, many lost their jobs and changes were made.
If you simply cough, it's covid for her; if you simply have a headache, it's covid; if you simply get the flu, it's covid; if you simply lose your sense of taste, it's covid; and so on. One of the reasons the number of cases of covid-19 has increased in the nation is that people have become overly anxious out of fear of getting the illness covid-19.
Many have changed, many have suffered, many have been afraid and many have died when the disease Covid-19 spread. Right now there is still pain but not like before, there are some things that have changed but little by little we are returning to the way it was before and we are still continuing what life is used to even though the disease of Covid-19 is not over or has not completely disappeared.

COVID-19 naming
ADD ARTICLE DESCRIPTION
During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the disease and virus were sometimes called "coronavirus", "Wuhan coronavirus", or "Wuhan pneumonia".
In January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) tentatively named it "2019-nCoV", short for "2019 Novel Coronavirus", or "2019 Novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease". This naming was based on the organization's 2015 guidelines for naming novel viruses and diseases, avoiding the use of geographic locations (such as Wuhan), in part to prevent social stigma. A similar structure has also been used by the AP when referring to virus variants, for example, referring to it as the "Delta variant" rather than the "South African variant".
On 11 February 2020, the WHO named the disease COVID-19 (short for coronavirus disease 2019). That same day, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) formally announced it had named the causative virus as SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) based upon its genetic similarity to the 2003 SARS-CoV. The separation between the disease and the causative virus is based on the same nomenclature policies that separate AIDS and the virus which causes it, HIV.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus explained that CO stands for coronavirus, VI for virus, and D stands for disease, while 19 stands for the year, 2019, that the outbreak was first detected. As such, there has never been a "COVID-1" or any other "COVID-" series disease with a number below 19.
Chinese virus
From January to March 2020, US President Donald Trump repeatedly described the virus as the "Chinese virus". In March 2020, the president claimed to have abandoned the term, telling Fox News "we shouldn't make any more of a big deal out of it". On March 18 and 19, 2020, Trump twice defended using the term "Chinese virus" amid instances of bigotry against Asians in the United States. Trump referred to it as "the China Virus" at least as late as January 2021.
This description was also used by members of the Spanish far-right political party Vox, especially by its leader Santiago Abascal in March 2020.
CCP virus
The Epoch Times has reportedly funded right-wing groups promoting the use of the term "CCP virus" to lay blame on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for the pandemic. Chinese-born New Zealand sculptor Chen Weiming created a 20-foot statue in Liberty Sculpture Park in Yermo, California, depicting Chinese leader and CCP general secretary Xi Jinping with spike proteins as his hair, naming it "CCP virus".
Stylization
Stylization of the term has varied since the virus's and disease's discovery. The World Health Organization (WHO) stylizes the disease as COVID-19 with all letters capitalized and many other organizations have followed their lead. The AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style, and the Modern Language Association (MLA) have styled it similarly. Several observers have noted the importance of proper stylization, despite the seeming ridiculousness of worrying over such matters "at a time like this" (during the early days of the pandemic), recalling the confusion and prejudice which resulted from unclear or inconsistent naming as was the case with AIDS (which was called GRID/HTLV-III/LAV at various times) and non-A, non-B Hepatitis. They have also pointed out that future researchers will benefit from consistency when reviewing past data and research.
However, stylization as "Covid-19" has become common as well. Numerous news sources including The New York Times, CNN, Politico, The Wall Street Journal, NBCNews have presented the term with a capital C but all other letters as lower case. As a result, use of "Covid-19" has become commonplace and even the accepted standard in some cases. Use of "Covid-19" in news sources from the United Kingdom like The Guardian has also been the norm since most British newspapers only capitalize an entire acronym if the acronym is typically spelled out like "B-B-C" or "N-H-S" while acronyms which are pronounced as words, like "Nasa" or "Unicef" have their first letter capitalized and all subsequent letters lowercase.
While COVID-19 refers to the disease and SARS-CoV-2 refers to the virus which causes it, referring to the "COVID-19 virus" has been accepted. Reference to SARS-CoV-2 as "the coronavirus" has become somewhat accepted despite such use implying that there is only one coronavirus species. Similarly, use of "COVID" for the disease (if the first rendered as COVID-19) has been tolerated. Use of "the Coronavirus" to refer to the COVID-19 pandemic which began in December 2019 has also been accepted. Although such use does not specify the year or which coronavirus-related disease is being referred to, given its all-encompassing impact at the time, such references have been deemed justifiable. Use of "the" when referring to the disease, virus, or 2019 pandemic has been quite varied with some requiring use of "the" while others have not. The Oxford English Dictionary noted that "the" is typically not used when referring to the disease, COVID-19, but is not uncommon when referring to the virus.
Reference to the virus and/or the disease as "corona", "the corona", and "the rona" has also arisen in various parts of the world.
Colloquial names
2022-09-13 phylogenetic tree of life of COVID-19 using the PANGO nomenclature; only a few of these variants have come to public notice
Numerous mutations and variants of SARS-CoV-2 have acquired colloquial vis-à-vis scientific labels for ease of pronunciation and usage, both in the lab and to some extent in mass media. The nomenclature draws from the corpus of mythology (both Greek and Scandinavian and astronomy.
Public messaging has been a concern given that these elements of popular reportage can be at variance with the Greek alphabet nomenclature established by the WHO; other schemes have been proposed.
Variants
Arcturus (XBB.1.16) was named on social media after the star; Kraken (XBB.1.5), Cerberus (BQ.1.1), Typhon (BQ.1), and Gryphon (XBB) were coined by evolutionary biologist T. Ryan Gregory (from his own personal nomenclature of mythical creatures); whereas Pelican, Quail, and Mockingbird (variants of 20I/501Y.V1), have not gained wider usage. The BA.2.86 variant was named 'pirola' (sic) by a group of scientists on social media in late 2023, and was brought to public attention by an August edition of the Wall Street Journal. (Inasmuch as the World Health Organization has suggested using astronomy for its plethora of names, the Twitter user @JPWeiland suggested the obscure Jovian asteroid 1082 Pirola "for its uniqueness" and the possibility of shifting the nomenclaure to Pi or Rho if needed.)
Mutations
Nicknames have also arisen for mutations such as Nelly (N501Y), Doug (and Douglas) (D614G), and even Eeek (E484K), initially meant as convenient labels in University of Bern lab discourse.

Los CDC ALIENTAN A LOS LABORATORIOS A CONSIDERAR LA ADOPCIÓN DE UN MÉTODO MULTIPLEXADO QUE PUEDA FACILITAR LA DETECCIÓN Y DIFERENCIACIÓN DE LOS VIRUS DEL SARS-COV-2 Y LA INFLUENZA.
Y no sólo marginalmente mejor.

COVID-19
Tumblr media
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is defined as illness caused by a novel coronavirus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; formerly called 2019-nCoV), which was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. [1] It was initially reported to the WHO on December 31, 2019. On January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency. [2, 3] On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, its first such designation since declaring H1N1 influenza a pandemic in 2009.
Illness caused by SARS-CoV-2 was termed COVID-19 by the WHO, the acronym derived from "coronavirus disease 2019." The name was chosen to avoid stigmatizing the virus's origins in terms of populations, geography, or animal associations. [5, 6] On February 11, 2020, the Coronavirus Study Group of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses issued a statement announcing an official designation for the novel virus: severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
