I keep seeing commentary here and elsewhere from leftists, usually young leftists. They blame Biden for what Israel is doing to Gaza. They say they won't vote for Biden because he won't stop what Israel is doing to Gaza. They scream about how Biden is a fascist because he's willing to send money to Israel, while Israel is killing civilians in Gaza.

Let's get the obvious out of the way. What Israel is doing in Gaza is horrific, inhuman, and I have no doubt constitutes war crimes on a massive scale.

Now, go ahead, tell me. How is the U.S. supposed to get Israel to stop?

They're a sovereign country. Why the hell would they do what we tell them to?

They have a hard-right Prime Minister who needs to keep his job in order to avoid going to jail. He's basically their version of Trump. You think Trump would have listened to another country telling him not to do something?

Sure, we can cut off aid. Then what? Israel wants U.S. money, but it doesn't NEED it. It can survive without it, and it can survive without the U.S. as an ally - it's spent the last 80 years making sure of that. And if we stop selling them weapons, I can think of a couple countries willing to step up and sell them whatever they want. Biden has been putting conditions on proposed aid and U.S. arms sales to Israel for pretty much the first time in history. He's been putting the screws to Netenyahu's government in almost every diplomatic avenue possible. Also, that proposed aid package for Israel? A BIG reason that Israel money was even in there was to try and get Republicans on board with the *other*, larger parts of the aid package - like the aid to Ukraine and to Taiwan.

Now you may disagree with how he's doing this, or think Biden should just take the U.S. ball (aid) and go home. Then what? You think that actually solves anything? You think that helps the Palestinians in Gaza? You think Israel's actually going to stop? Or do you just want him to do it because it makes you feel better and then you can stop thinking about it? Serious question here. People want Biden to stop Israel. Tell me how. I'm watching EP 70 of VM rn and Taliesin above table but as Percy just said "this is why you people need me." In that smug dumbass way Percy has about the rest of the gang struggling to convince Kima to trust them about them not disclosing Raishan's identity to her and I had rolled my eyes about it but the more I think about it...

Yeah Percy is good at persuasive arguments, at convincing people and he does it so damn cleverly that I'm impressed to be honest, cuz even Scanlan isn't cutting the mustard right now with his oodles and oodles of charm, and Percy isn't overly known for his...likeability, as 2imposters once said, half of VM was crushing on him once and it absolutely wasn't because of his personality, like make him roll for it and it's up to the dice but Percy has a way of speaking that allows him to bypass dice entirely to get his point across and have it stick just as well, he's horribly eloquent and his arguments are usually Bad but worded so well you can't help but "....well, maybe he has a point-" and that shithead has GOT you

Like he is morally wrong so much of the time but goddamn he's so glib-tounged about it, Percy's fucking scary man. That posh and deeply misguided sense of his own maturity has given him FAR too much power

Hey. Even if you abstain from voting for president (even though the system is rigged as all hell and the alternative to Biden is Donald fucking Trump AGAIN).

Vote for your senators. Representatives. State and local politicians. Exercise your right.

Vote for candidates who will work towards the change you want at a smaller scale. Vote for candidates that will make laws that you want upheld.

Vote for candidates that will actually fucking allow a hearing with potential Supreme Court Judge appointments regardless of partisan politics.

If you feel you can't make a big difference, make a small one. The people trying to beat you down are counting on you feeling too powerless to even try.

Jester and Fjord both have little to no interest in or knowledge of politics or current events, I feel like they'd be better at general life advice and like, How To Stay Alive and How To Balance Adventuring With Family/Business/Other Goal advice

Caleb would give solid advice and probably has a lot of contacts to share because of his connections in the academy and cobalt soul, but I also feel like he'd either be very busy fighting corruption, doing research, and grading papers, or he'd be retired, in which case Let Him Rest

Caducues is so isolated from the general goings on of Exandria and generally doesn't know or doesn't care about all that, he would be so bad at this job. Would probably give pretty good spiritual advice and general life advice, though

Beau and Yasha strike me as having the same vibe of Allura and Kima in c2: Beau has so many connections (access to cobalt soul archives and teleportation circles!) and so much knowledge and general problem solving abilities to share, and meanwhile Yasha would be there like "I don’t know about all this but I could come with you and help fight your big bad or lend you this neat sword"

Essek would be a solid choice largely because he's already been an adventurer mentor of sorts to the nein, he knows the ropes and he has a lot of knowledge on both the political and the arcane to share, but he’s also a hunted man and would probably be hard to get ahold of and no longer have access to connections (other than the nein and the nein's future descendants) and resources to share

Veth, like Essek, is already a mentor of sorts! She runs a baby adventurer summer camp! She, like Fjord and Jester, has so much advice to give on how to balance family life with adventuring! She has a decent grasp of current events even if she doesn’t care all that much, and her closeness to Caleb probably gives her access to a lot of empire connections

Kingsley would be less of an Allura and more of a Gentleman, I suspect. He has Molly’s deep caring but Lucien's saviness and hunger for power. As the Plank King he would have access to information and items and connections gallore, and as someone who was himself brought into this world by adventurers he'd probably be happy to help future parties, even if he would be a dick about it. Also it would be very funny.
