From Stardust - Prologue

Somewhere far away, a place you've never been, in a wonderful galaxy called Delta Peleus, are five planets, with three suns. The closest planet to the suns, is called Theenia. Theenia is the warmest planet. The people there are peaceful and loving, accepting of everything. They worship the suns, through atenism. The planet after that, Rooke, is a variant. The world is always changing, earthquakes ravage its surface, and it's a wonder the people live, let alone, survive there. Snowstorms always rage in the south, while the tropic north is sunshine and warmth. But it doesn't stop the weather from being extremely crazy. The third planet, Cleotania, is woodsy and dense. The cleanest people, the cleanest planet. The people live alongside the animals there. The fourth planet, Tarantauro, is for the iron and metal forges, those who are willing go by airship to work there. The planet is uninhabited by everyone but the forgers. And then there's Vroth. The coldest planet, with the coldest people. They live for the snow, the ice, climbing the tundras, everyone there is pale and there's almost always a child with frostbite from the cold.

In the beginning, Rooke was the ruling planet, having colonies in every other planet, essentially controlling everything that happened, through the main emperor: Coron. But Theenia started a war, surprisingly, and joined forces with the other three planets, Vroth, Tarantauro, and Cleotania, and thus created the Agreement of Ages. The worlds came together every year, on the first day of the new year. If things needed to be discussed, they would. Each world established a monarchy, and the rulers would meet more often if there was a crisis.

As of yet, 200 years after the Agreement of Ages, things have been relatively calm. Now, we zoom in on the world of Vroth, and even further onto the tundras of the main country, Erd. The biggest of the five countries, it's sheltered, with a large wall along the north, with frozen lands over the majority of the country, and the fertile lands along the coasts of it. Tall mountains capped with snow are in abundance, and rivers trickle through valleys between them. Hot springs are abundant in the country. The flag of the entire world, which is proudly displayed along it, is a frozen hand reaching out for the sun, with a sword grasped in its fist.

The royal family of Vroth are cold and cunning, and they've ruled since the Agreement was made, the Brevils. Conrad Brevil, the current leader, as of 250 PA (Post Agreement) had a lovely wife, who bore him four children. The eldest, a 19 year old boy, named Bryon, was set to be the next ruler after his father. His next child was Aenwyn(A-en-win), a 17 year old girl, headstrong and independent, always willing to fight for her way. His youngest two were twins 10 years old, a boy and a girl, named Conrad II and Elaina (e-lay-nuh). The royal family was happy as could be in their home, and they gave everything they could. The Brevils were a gracious family, and they were well-known for their love and generosity to the entire world.

Though the king had his rulers in all the countries that reported to him, he still often sent his children out, being a firm believer in having his children seeing the world.

And so that is what Aenwyn did.

hello! if you could change one thing in the series what would it be?

i’d give christina an independent character arc and character growth. I think that that could do a lot for the story if only because she absolutely deserves to be a secondary protagonist and shouldn’t be relegated to side character status. Also, she could be an exploration of the ‘normals’ in Chicago and that would be fascinating. Also also, i really just want her to confront tris about all of her shit because she’s practically a saint for just taking all of that in stride and being ride or die for her anyways

Star Trek Aliens Names Bank

Compiled for your convenience, a bank of canon names for the most common aliens of Star Trek.

These are compiled from Memory Alpha and Memory Beta. I tried to distinguish given and surnames as best I could, and generally did not include a name if it was too unclear. Same goes for names of individuals without a specified gender, since we don't know if or how names are gendered for these various cultures. This is also the reason why names are split by gender at all. Beta canon was occasionally used to distinguish given names v. surnames for Alpha canon names (such as Dukat being specified as a surname). For characters that were spies disguised as another species, if their alter ego had a distinct name, I gave each name to their respective species. If not (i.e. Seska), I did not include the name because its unclear to which culture the name derives from. There is a good amount of guesswork in here, and undoubtedly errors.

Species included are Andorians, Bajorans, Betazoids, Bolians, Caitians, Cardassians, Denobulans, Ferengi, Jem'Hadar, Klingons, Orions, Romulans, Tellarites, Trill, Vorta, and Vulcans.

This can be used for general reference at the sorts of names appropriate to each species, or for random generation based on phonemes, such as can be found in Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator, whose namesbase feature was the base concept used for this.

Several of these have very small sample sizes, and may produce janky results in phoneme generators. Male names are overrepresented for pretty much every species. Make of that what you will

Andorians in Alpha Canon are generally referred to by only one name, but in Beta Canon have an expanded naming system (only names aligning with this system are included), with a given name, a surname prefix (ch' for chan, sh' for shen, th' for thaan, and zh' for zhen), and a surname, generally taken from the zhavey (zhen parent). They also tend to have nicknames, which are included on a separate line. Chan and thaan are often considered to more or less correspond to masculinity, and when dealing with binary species, tend to use he/him pronouns, with shen and zhen being the same towards femininity and generally using she/her pronouns.

Romulans in Alpha canon seem to have a simple given name surname system, but are said to have three names: one for outsiders, one for family, and a true name. In Beta canon, Romulans have a given name, may or may not have an additional middle name, and have a surname. There are prefixes as well, with gendered prefixes (t' for female, tr' for male, and s' for groups (and presumably non-binary); omitted in familiar settings) for surnames and prefixes for middle names (i' when using the full name, ir' for formality lacking one or more names), as well as T' occasionally being added to any part of a female name.

In Alpha canon, we only have singular names for male Tellarites. Beta canon gives most Tellarites a given name and surname. There does appear to be some sort of naming system at place, with uncapitalized middle names, but I haven't read any books featuring Tellarites and don't know what it may be. Spriton Forest Broth

Adventurers, we have arrived at the Sami thicket, home of noble Spriton clan of Gelfling. The Spriton Clan are expert gardeners, known for mastery over the soil as potent as the Dousan clan’s mastery over spiritual matters. They are the clan from which everyone’s favorite soup-maker, Kylan, hails from.

Creating a dish to represent this clan was easy, as Kylan has provided us with an example of Spriton cuisine, his famous and meme-worthy green broth. I have decided to recreate that oft-quoted soup, going instead for something with a texture closer to a bisque (despite containing no shellfish). This bisque can be used as a side dish, or can be consumed as a meal given an extra can of chickpeas.

This recipe serves four Spriton soup-slingers. 

(for a vegetarian soup, substitute the chicken brother for vegetable vroth)

TOOLS: 

Blender

Ladel

INGREDIENTS:

1-2 15 oz cans of chickpeas

2  6oz bags of spinach

2.5 oz of goat cheese (1/2 a 5oz package)

1/2 a sweet onion

2 tbsp olive oil

3 cups low sodium chicken broth

1 cup dry white wine

4 cloves of garlic

1 tsp dried basil (or a tbsp fresh basil)

1/2  tsp rubbed sage

1/2 tsp dried parsley 

1 tsp balsamic vinegar

1 tsp kosher salt

1 tbsp plain greek yogurt

Pam/cooking spray

Balsamic glaze(optional)

Slice 1/2 of your sweet onion. Spray a pan with cooking spray and heat to medium heat. Add the onions and saute until browned.

 Add onions your blender. Rinse and drain the chickpeas and add to blender. 

Add the spinach ( a little at a time), the chicken broth, and a tbsp of olive oil. Blend until smooth. 

Add the wine, Greek yogurt, and goat cheese and blend until smooth.Add second tbsp of oil to soup pot, Add spinach mixture and heat over medium heat. 

Grate four cloves of garlic into the soup and stir until combined.

 Stir in kosher salt, basil, sage, parsley, and vinegar. Bring soup to a boil for two minutes. 

Reduce heat to low and cover. Allow the soup to simmer for 30 minutes. Serve with an optional squeeze of balsamic glaze.

so that ya post took me down a rabbit hole of why divergent sucks and i’m sad. 

like i’m not gonna sit here and defend the latter two books because yikes.png but i get the sense that people get as far as “tris is less interesting than katniss” and i just... what about... the realistic portrayal of an abused boy (nope, he’s just too aloof/too obviously the love interest, or... something, idefk)?

Or the worldbuilding around a society built on facing/overcoming fear, showing both the bravery and the cruelty of children taught in such an environment (no, dauntless was too obviously Cooler Than The Others(tm) rather than a point about people raised military/as soldiers/cops/etc and how easily that goes HORRIFYINGLY WRONG even when the people involved are mostly decent. acab what now)?

i get that a lot of people didn’t like it, but i reread it every couple of years and i always get a couple of chapters in and i’m just like... am i reading the same book as these other people? this is really good

Looking back on it, the Divergent trio was something else. I enjoyed Divergent, slogged through Insurgent (the 2nd book took me years to read), and I pretty much didn't read Allegiant since I got spoiled by the ending a long time ago and just gave up altogether. Despite Allegiant's ending and what happened to Triss was controversial, I got to give props to Roth for doing what she did, which is quite a rare thing in YA. I do think Divergent would've worked as a standalone novel than a trio.

I liked the first two books at the time they came out. They were really action-packed and I thought the conflict between the factions was super fun even though it was obviously THG/generic YA dystopian lite. At this point you all know me. I see a vaguely sci fi trope, I’m happy. I doubt I’d enjoy the books if I read them today, because even upon first read I struggled to take the worldbuilding seriously, but the series still makes me nostalgic.

Allegiant was a mess in several ways, but I do think you could see where VRoth was going with the character if you paid close attention to the previous books and her socials as the trilogy was being published. It was a bold, bold, bold move but it was executed very poorly soooo??? I also entirely blame the Divergent film series, especially Allegiant, for killing the dystopian trend and to a certain extent YA book-to-movie adaptations for a solid 3 or 4 years. It was one of those film adaptations that said “We’re gonna change the book content because it’s too weak sauce for a film” but somehow they made the story so so so so much worse? At least Divergent you can laugh at, but Insurgent and Allegiant as adaptations and films are full-body-cringe unwatchable.

2 tablespoons butter

5 cloves of garlic, minced

2 cups of begetable vroth

1 cup soymilk

8-10 oz of spaghetti or other noodle

1 teaspoon rosemary

1 teaspoon oreganao

2 teaspoon basil

1/4 cup parmesan

Some peas

Instructions:

In a saucepan, melt butter and roast up that garlic just dont burn it like i did

add vegtable broth, milk and noodles. bring to a boil and turn heat super low to a simmer. stir ur noodles around a bit til theyre cozy in the water

add rosemary, oregano, and basil and stir

simmer for 18 to 20 minutes, stirring whenever u feel it

while its simmering make ur peas! its super easy just pick how much you want and boil it till its not cold

its beeen a while!!! test ur noodles. if theyre soft, add the cheese and peas and stir. if not wait till theyre soft then add the cheese and peas and stir.

hi! do you think caleb should've ''sacrificed'' himself instead of tris?

short answer: no

long answer: hell no

detailed answer: I’m not just saying this because I’m a fan of Caleb. From an in-book perspective it was practically guaranteed that Caleb wouldn’t go through with it. Even assuming that he didn’t think he had any kind of future ahead of him, Caleb’s been characterized as someone with an innate determination to live. It’s something that he and Tris actually have in common, their most basic instinct is to keep surviving no matter how much they may actually want to die. Beyond that, Tris would never have been able to just let him die. If she hadn’t been there, if she had gone into the city instead then she wouldn’t have been the one to die but it’s incredibly within the realm of possibility that given a little more time Caleb, Cara, and Matthew alone could have macgyver-ed a way out someone having to die.From a more meta perspective, if Caleb had died it would only have hammered in the trend in the story that everyone who tells Tris she’s wrong or dares to fight against her in any way either gets killed or gets hurt. It would have been infuriating if Caleb had died because that’s exactly what we were mean to expect to happen, he didn’t take Tris’ side ergo death was imminent.

1. How did you start writing and how?

As far as  can recall, I only seriously started trying to write stores after I’d read Lord of the Rings for the first time, so I blame Tolkien. I wrote several quickly-poured-out attempts on loose pages of lined paper, with a dozen or so ‘chapters’ each taking a line or two, before I began gathering and developing ideas for larger works, none of which I ever completed.

2. What is your favorite line from your own work?

Ohhhh I could not ever decide! But I did some perusing and picked one I liked from what I wrote in April on Red and Gray, and I’m not going to spend the time reading through everything I’ve written to see if there’s something I like better, so here it is:

He was a hunting bird, a falcon, and his fine plumage was a tool that carried him into the sky and down for the kill - less colorful than some birds, perhaps, but far more dangerous.

3. Who is your writing idol, and how have they influenced you?

I mean, my greatest inspiration is of course, as stated, Tolkien, but how much influence he has had on my style is... less. I cite Shannon Hale and Veronica Roth as influences a lot - VRoth I think really made me think about themes, what I wanted to say with my stories and characters, because that’s what stuck with me so much from her work. 

4. Which oc has the best family (found or otherwise)?

I’m gonna say Rinnyx. (The E-squad become a great found family, but I haven’t written them to it yet so it feels like cheating.) Rinnyx’s family has their problems, their disagreements, but at the end of the day they’re always going to be there for each other. (Except his dad, but he doesn’t count.)

5. Which oc has the most satisfying ending to their story?

I’ll let you know when I finish writing their stories. (Not that I don’t know where they’ll end up, but it’s the journey that makes it satisfying, you know? Also I’m still working really hard to end Rinnyx and Seyetto’s arcs in the most satisfying way)

6. If you’ve gotten feedback on your writing, who is your readers’ favourite character? If not who do you think readers will fall in love with?

This is what I lie awake at night wondering about. I’m always trying to think how a potential fandom would react to my children. If anyone has any input from seeing me babble about my OCs, please do let me know. 

There’s several that I think could have equally ardent supporters and detractors. But someone I think people will just like is Juq.

7. Which tropes (eg. Friends to lovers, fake death, white haired pretty boy) do you always find yourself wanting to write?

I always end up writing about strong sibling or platonic relationships. It just keeps happening and I’ve just accepted it. 

8. What goes through your head when writing a scene?

Different parts of the scene, or bits of dialog, or things I want to convey in it, all out of order, that I have to try to sort through and organize.

Except when I’m writing conversation between Rinnyx and Seyetto, that just flows, thanks you two

9. How specific is your idea of your characters’ appearance usually? Do you draw them? (If so can we see it?)

It varies. Some I have a very well defined mental picture, some I have a few basic traits. Some are growing and shifting.  Sadly I do not draw.

10. What are you proudest of as a writer?

Creating these characters out of the void and filling them with life. I just hope they can feel as alive to other people as they do to me.
