Planetary Exploration Journal: Vesper

Name: Vesper (VEH-spur, with the emphasis on the first syllable "veh")

Description: Vesper is a planet located in the Arcturus System. The planet is a rocky, barren world with a harsh, unforgiving environment that makes it almost impossible for most forms of life to survive, but is relatively the same size as Earth.

Geography: Vesper's landscape is an extremely harsh one, with scorching hot days and freezing cold nights that can last for weeks at a time. This is due to its close proximity to its sun, which is much larger and hotter than the sun in our own solar system. It's terrain is mostly rocky, consisting of mostly jagged peaks or gravel deserts with most water found in underground caves.

Civilization: Despite its inhospitable conditions, Vesper does support a small amount of life, primarily in the form of hardy microorganisms that can survive in the planet's rocky soil and underground water sources. These microorganisms are believed to be the remnants of ancient life forms that once thrived on Vesper before it became a barren wasteland.

Unique Features: One of the most unique features of Vesper is its network of underground tunnels and caverns, which were created by volcanic activity and erosion over millions of years. These tunnels are vast and complex, and some have been known to stretch for hundreds of kilometers. Many of these tunnels are still unexplored, and some are believed to hold ancient artifacts and technology left behind by a long-dead civilization.

Challenges: Due to its remote location and harsh environment, Vesper has never been colonized or fully explored by any known space-faring civilization. However, there are rumors of a few brave explorers and treasure hunters who have attempted to brave the planet's dangers in search of its hidden secrets.

List of Currently Known Illnesses and Diseases;

Vesperian Fever (Vesperian febricosis, VF): This is a viral disease that is transmitted through exposure to the planet's unique soil and airborne particles. Symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, and respiratory distress.

Vesperian Malaria (Vesperian anophelesis, VA): This is a parasitic infection transmitted by the bite of Vesperian mosquitos. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, and muscle pain.

Vesperian Encephalitis (Vesperian arbovirus encephalitis, VAE): This is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of infected Vesperian insects. Symptoms include headache, fever, confusion, and in severe cases, coma and death.

Vesperian Poisoning (Vesperian phytotoxicosis, VP): This is caused by ingestion of toxic plants on Vesper, leading to a range of symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weakness.

Vesperian Radiation Sickness (Vesperian radiation toxicity, VRT): Due to the planet's harsh environment, prolonged exposure to Vesper's radiation can cause radiation sickness, with symptoms including fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and skin burns.

Overall Conclusion;

Vesper is a fascinating planet with unique geological features, however with its harsh environments and even harsher climate, the planet would be difficult near impossible to colonize or establish a permanent living presence.
