Everlark Fic Exchange. PROMPTS

Springtime Edition 2020.

These are the prompts we’ve received so far.

Crossed out prompts have already been selected and are being turned into fics!

A huge ‘Thank you’ to everyone who’s taken the time to come up with an idea and send it our way. Your prompts are the heart of the Exchange. Without them, our authors wouldn’t get to write all those beautiful fics. So, please, keep them coming!

You haven’t sent anything yet? Don’t worry, there’s still time. We’ll be receiving prompts until March 8. Don’t be afraid to inspire us!

Prompt 1: Middle Mellark brother never wanted a baby bro. Spends half his life defending or admiring or manipulating Peeta, but the other half hating him for being so perfect (the favorite sweet talker and best baker wrestler). Whether to help or torment him, Rye asks reserved Katniss on a date to get a reaction. Maybe told as a wedding toast? [submitted by @567inpanem]

Prompt 2: Katniss is a high end house painter who works with expensive decorators, hired to paint an up and coming artists home. Turns out it’s Peeta, the boy her mother saved from an abusive home, who then disappeared. [submitted by @niceworksherlock]

Prompt 4: Gale attempts to shoot Peeta during a hijacking episode on the Star Squad. Leaving Peeta wounded but not fatally. Katniss thinks Gale killed him. [submitted by Anonymous]

Prompt 6: Medieval Au: Queen Katniss is in love. Too bad the person, Peeta is a renounced rebellion leader now turned into the personal sexslave of King Cato Snow, the son of Coriolanus Snow. With each passing day its becoming more and more dangerous for this star-crossed lovers to survive. Prompt 7: Katniss Everdeen the daughter of a billionaire tries to antagonise her father. So she decides to date poor, uneducated simple boy Peeta. Her whole family (even Prim) hates him. Too bad his father has already arranged her marriage with his business partner's son Gale, a smart, handsome and successful man. Will she really fall for Peeta or will she bow to her father's will? Prompt 20: Peeta is the CEO and katniss is his secretary. They have an affair and katniss gets pregnant but when she tells peeta he doesn't believe her and accuse her of trying to trap him. What will he do when he realize his mistake and how will he win katniss back. [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 22: Set in early 20th century. Katniss and Peeta are from two rival families who have been enemies since forever. They have a chance meeting which led to them falling in love. Prompt 23: Rumor: MrEverdeen crossed fence dividing Town and Seam, kidnapped Mrs Everdeen making her his commonlaw wife. Years later, Mellark sons plan to avenge their father by raiding Seam and kidnapping one of Everdeens daughters for one of them to take as a wife! Prompt 24: After Prim survives her first reaping, Katniss realizes she must have better plan for Prim’s future; fights to reclaim rights to the apothecary; wins it back after drawn out legal battle; installs her mom and Prim as owners. But Katniss not welcome in town for her Seam looks and distasteful takeover of a town business, and she’s not welcome in Seam as she refuses to marry Gale. So now 18 and past reaping, what will she do, where will she go, does anyone need her, can she let herself need anyone? [submitted by @567inpanem]

Prompt 25: Panem’s Mellark bakers are practically royalty, but with power comes responsibility. Peeta struck deal long ago to someday take reigns of Corp and settle down once dad retires if he can sow wild oats until then fucking everything that moves. Time’s up! Must propose! Publicity stunt for Mardi Gras - will bake engagement ring into cupcakes, makes sure his choice of wife will get that one, but mixup! Some girl in D12 gets it by mistake! Can’t admit his error! Prompt 26: the night before the Quarter Quell, in the sleepless dark, Katniss and Peeta allow themselves to indulge in the bittersweet dream of a future they’ll never have together (“if it wasn’t us, what would you do?” “I’d want to marry you” “tell me”) [submitted by @rosegardeninwinter]

Prompt 27: Pick a “what if” - what if Katniss was at Peeta’s bedside when he woke after losing his leg? - what if Katniss hadn’t been locked inside her room after wandering at night when she decides to seek out Peeta? - what if Haymitch hadn’t left the train when it stopped and upset Peeta with his comment? Prompt 28: The truth finally comes out years later: Lily broke off the engagement only after the baker had knocked up her best friend, and for the baby’s sake she had left to run a free clinic in the seam where she does find true love. Her family invites her back to the apothecary now that they know and they forgive her for marrying a mine worker now that he’s deceased anyway. How does young Katniss adjust to life in town; Peeta, Delly, Madge as neighbors; not needing to go over the fence but wanting to? [submitted by @567inpanem]

Prompt 29: Post-MJ, Growing Together. Peeta is finally showing his affection and love for Katniss as they heal and reconnect. Katniss, being Katniss, seems to act like she doesn't appreciate this, and is less than enthused. Peeta, taking this like an adult, stops showing her with the affection and tries to show her his love in other ways. Katniss, however, does not appreciate him stopping those things and set out to try and get him to continue it again because she misses it. [submitted by @albinokittens300]

Prompt 30: When Prim needs a bone marrow reconstitution that can only be accomplished via genetic matched umbilical stem cell transplantation, Mrs E confesses that the baker is Prim’s father. Prim’s best chance of survival depends on Katniss having a Mellark’s child for the donor cells. How does she get one of the Mellarks to agree? And what are negotiations like regarding conception and what to do with the baby once it’s born? What if it’s more than one baby because of the medication Katniss is given? Prompt 32: Pre-books fic about a young Peeta crushing on Katniss. His friends tease him about his crush constantly, and it irritates him because everyone seems to know except Katniss herself. But he just rolls his eyes good-naturedly whenever his friends say something about it. [submitted by @madetofly]

Prompt 33: Roommates+Friends-with-Benefits: It’s finally March and Katniss is hankering for a Shamrock Shake because “Damned it, Peeta! I can taste the mint!” So he drives her to every McDonald's in a 40 mile radius without luck. She cries, surprising both of them ‘cause she never cries… Peeta takes matters into his hands, buys ingredients for a homemade 🍀 shake plus a pregnancy test just in case. Prompt 34: Peeta Mellark is the owner of a popular bakery chain and has no time for romance. Katniss Everdeen is struggling, about to be evicted, in deep debt and desperate, she jokingly tells her friend Madge over a cheese bun, she needs a Sugar Daddy to put her trough college and Peeta happens to overhear it. She’s a regular at his main shop, and is cute if a few years his junior. He offers her a deal she can’t refuse. Age gap. Extra cookies for accidental toastbaby and falling in love. Prompt 35: No reaping AU. At 19, Katniss considers marrying Gale for practical reasons; the fact she just heard the baker’s son toasted and was assigned a house at the edge of town has nothing to do with it... maybe. What happens next? (was Peeta really married or was it his brother? Does she marry Gale? Does Everlark ever talk? Will Peeta cheat if he’s actually married? Prompt 36: Frustrated and stressed out Single dad!Peeta needs a fuck desperately. His best friend, Katniss, unwittingly offers to help him out. Things get murky with repressed feelings, but one thing’s certain, Peeta can’t keep his hands to himself anymore and Katniss is all too willing to oblige at the drop of a hat, regardless of place, time and her own emotions, as long as he keeps whispering all his sexy, filthy thoughts into her ear. Prompt 37: Not-Reaped, In-Panem AU where Peeta and Katniss have begun quietly seeing one another. It is very early on and they are really only just getting a bearing on how deep their feelings are when one day Katniss sees Peeta beat by his mother and no amount of will power will stop her from going and confronting the witch. Prompt 40: No choice - friends Katniss and Gale must wed to become legal guardians of siblings. Still not enough to avoid financial ruin. Convinced only way to get desperately needed fast cash is for Katniss to first offer virginity to highest bidder. But how to find him or her, how to negotiate terms, does she confide in anyone, how should she prepare, will it all be quick and forgotten as she hopes, what could go wrong, can she keep this secret, can she use a fake name, can she hire a service? Prompt 41: Inspired by the dancing kid meme. A video clip of either Katniss/Peeta as a child becomes a huge meme. How do they handle it? Maybe it gets them together? Maybe it’s creation tears them apart? [submitted by Buttercupbadass]

Prompt 42: Every time there’s a really bad storm, a bolt of lightning precedes Katniss getting transported to another life. She’s always Katniss with all her memories, but everything around her is different. Peeta is always there, she just needs to figure out if he’s friend, foe, stranger. And, damn it, the storms this spring with global warming sometimes has her in and out of situations before she can figure anything out. Gale complicate things further. Prompt 44: Believing that taking a new young bride every 5 years will keep him youthful, Snow arranges to marry wife #12 from D12. In the hours between the ceremony and the wedding night, he drops dead. 16-yr-old Katniss returns to 12 but now she’s “Widow Snow.” Can she ever be Katniss, district huntress again? Prompt 53: Katniss’s parents finally convinces her to attend the military ball because they are honoring her dad after some time of trying to distance herself from the military world. Prompt 55: The Prophecy states: “A powerful witch that’s born from the two worlds,will reunite them and will bring peace. “ Everyone thought that the prophecy was talking about her. Prompt 56: Who dun it? Shortly after Katniss goes to one of those paint and kiln your own porcelain places, (owner artist Peeta), people start disappearing. The only connection seems to be that they were people she bitched about while sipping too much wine and painting her piece. She becomes prime suspect. No bodies can be found, how are they vanishing? Prompt 57: In a place where the world prospers with a female dominated world, Coriolanus Snow successfully does a coup over the reigning Everdeen family with ruthless bunches of man to create a world where men dominate.But the people’s hope is in the form of a Katniss Everdeen and Snow did not know that she was right under his nose the whole time before it was too late. Prompt 59: Growing up Peeta started loving her. It was a gradual thing that happened throughout his childhood and into his teens. But something changes when he hits puberty. Her scent has heightened, he can spot her from miles away. He gets a bit possessive. But the biggest thing is when his body starts to heat up and even just the thought of you gets him hard for days. He finds out the family secret of his werewolf genes, something his parents thought passed him. Prompt 61: Peeta knew better, but he did stupid things when he got drunk. Now he’s caged at the animal shelter in his wolf form. And, omg, Katniss Everdeen let her little sister drag her in to see the dogs?! He knows he shouldn’t, but teen hormones. He just wants to lick her hand. Get a tummy rub. Hump her leg. Sleep on her bed. Omg, they take him home!!!! He needs to let his dad know where he is. Omg. Prompt 64: She’s a good girl, goes to confession weekly. He’s a bad boy, on the run, slips into the confessional booth just in time. Now he’s stuck hiding in here for a bit hearing the some dull some crazy confessions of the elderly - and of one young girl with the sexiest voice. Prompt 66: Everlark post apocalypse, katniss and peeta are neighbors and the only two that make it to katniss's father's bunker in time. Over the course of several years the two have grown quite close having no one else, but now provisions are running low. Prompt 68: Dark Coffee Shop AU - Capitol Peeta runs a Coffee/Pastry shop in the poshest part of the Capitol. Near by President Snow’s Mansion. Capitol!Katniss is a frequent customer. Things in the Capitol begin to deteriorate as the rebellion drags on. Are they sympathetic to the rebel cause? [submitted by @oakfarmer12]

Prompt 69: College boy Peeta helps incoming students move into the dorms. Katniss is his next assignment. Age Gap? Maybe Katniss is an older student going to college later? Grad student? Maybe Peeta is a senior, Katniss a Freshman? The possibilities are endless! [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 70: Peeta picks up a hitchhiker in the mountains one night, only to find it's his childhood best friend and now escaped convict Katniss Everdeen. Prompt 71: King Snow forces the daughter of dead rebel leader Katniss to marry is adpoted son Peeta M and kills her father. P coming to know the truth on their wedding night vows to avenge Mr E's death. K hates him and carries on her own rebellion supplying her next clan leader Gale information from the Castle. When Snow is killed and rebels overtake Capitol chaos ensures. Ally of rebel, a neighbouring kingdom's queen Coin tries to use the situation in her favour. Whose side will K take? Eventual Everlark. Prompt 82: Post MJ, when Peeta touches Katniss’ neck wrong, she has a flashback of him almost strangling her and has to be heavily consoled. This leads to a conversation about his attacking her when he came back from the capitol. [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 83: Katniss is whipped instead of Gale in Catching Fire, Peeta’s the one who’s there to take care of her after. [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 84: [Historical AU: 1930s Hollywood] Silver screen star Peeta Mellark has captured millions of hearts, and housekeeper Katniss isn't immune. She's stunned when Peeta comes to court her eccentric heiress employer, Madge. Katniss' shock only grows when Peeta offers to pay for her help in winning him Madge's hand in marriage - and access to her fortune, with which he intends to fund his directorial debut. Prompt 85: During an episode of Peetas, he locks Katniss outside in the snow for an entire night. Haymitch is passed out drunk and doesn’t let her in, she can’t find anywhere else to go all night so she ends up catching a really bad cold. When Peeta comes to his senses he feels horrible and nurses her back to health. [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 86: After MJ Peeta has a hijack relapse for a few minutes where he insults Katniss’ appearance and body (more extreme version of when he said she wasn’t very pretty in Mockingjay) which hits a nerve, especially since her body was damaged in the explosion that killed Prim. After he’s back to himself, he feels terrible, but Katniss brushes it off. It’s only when she refuses to have sex with him now that he realizes how insecure she might be. [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 87: On the train a few days before the Quarter Quell, in another effort to break her before the second games, Snow orders Katniss to have sex with someone in the capitol who paid for her company. When she tries to refuse, Snow threatens her family. She agrees but partway through panics and tries to stop it, only to have the buyer turn on her and get physically violent. She comes to Peeta afterwards and he comforts her, holds her, takes care of her and promises he’ll never let someone hurt her again. [submitted by anonymous]

Prompt 88: Not reaped. Peeta and Katniss fake date. [submitted by @anxiouslyintroverted]

Prompt 89: Amish!world. Katniss and Peeta are courting each other and are just waiting for Katniss to be of age to get married cause Peeta’s 2 years older. But things gets tough when a Snow comes to their county and spots Katniss. He ask her father if she can be his wife. [submitted by @animekpopxx]

B jumps from the couch, willing herself not to panic.

How long had they been asleep?

She reads Soobin’s messages and calls him up, walking into the bathroom and closing the door behind her so her sleeping best friend wouldn’t hear her. Soobin picks up on the first ring.

“B! I was getting worried, what’s going on there? Are you on the way?” Soobin says, his voice full of concern, though he had to speak louder to be heard above the noise of music blasting and people chatting in the background.

“Soobin, I’m so so sorry, we fell asleep and I just woke up. Kai’s still asleep, and wow sounds like the party’s in full swing already.” she says.

“Nah, it’s still pretty early, and a lot of people are still coming in. Get your asses here now!” he says, sounding excited.

“Alright alright, I’ll wake him up, get changed, and we’ll be on our way.” she says.

“Yay, you better hurry! See you soon, B.” Soobin says, and B hears people greeting Soobin with ‘Hey!’s in the background before hanging up the call.

B steps out of the bathroom and is surprised to see Kai awake and sitting up on the couch, arms stretched out. He stops mid-yawn when he sees her exiting the bathroom.

“Hey Baba, were you talking to someone just now? I woke up cause I heard voices and I got a bit freaked out.” Kai says, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

“Oh yeah, Soobin just called. He’s asking me if I can drop by his place to pick something up for our project.” she says casually. “Do you wanna come with me? I’m sure Soobin wouldn’t mind.”

Kai shrugs. “Sure, why not? I was gonna ask him and the boys if they wanted to have dinner together for my birthday anyway. What time is it?”

B checks her phone. “Oh wow, it’s already 7! Gotta hurry if we’re making dinner plans. I’ll call for a cab, get changed, and then we can go.”

“Alrighty, I’ll freshen up a bit too.” Kai says, standing up and walking to the bathroom. “Why do you need to get changed, though? You look fine.”

B definitely did not look fine. Not for a party, at least. For her first wash day at MOA, she opted to wear an oversized hoodie with leggings and sneakers.

“Nah, I’ve been wearing these clothes all day, I wanna wear something a bit nicer if we’re going out for your birthday dinner.” she says, mentally patting herself on the back for coming up with a good excuse.

“I’ve been wearing these clothes all day too, but fine. It’s not like we’re going anywhere fancy or anything.” he says, trying to straighten out his sweatshirt.

“You look good, though. I’m just gonna touch up my makeup and change my clothes. Be ready in a minute.” she says, before walking into her bedroom and closing the door behind her.

She quickly rushes to her dresser and brushes through her hair, which fortunately didn’t get too disheveled throughout the day. Then, she carefully yet hurriedly worked on her makeup, doing black winged eyeliner, red lips, peach blush and golden highlight knowing that it was foolproof for any occasion.

Next, she throws the doors of her wardrobe open, mentally going through the possible outfit combinations she could put together in her head. She pulls out a few tops and bottoms from the cabinet and lays them on her bed, trying to decide what to wear. She wanted to look appropriately dressed for a party without raising suspicion from her best friend.

She whips out her phone and sends out a quick message for help.

She follows the girls’ advice and puts on a skirt, deciding that it did look a lot more suitable for the occasion. She puts on a pair of black sneakers and grabs a small black sling bag before exiting her bedroom, only to be greeted by Kai leaning against the backrest of the couch.

“Baba, wow! You look great, wow, I’m actually surprised you didn’t take longer.” he says as he looks her up and down. “I feel way underdressed now. Whoa, you even did your makeup all nice too.” he says, raising a brow. “Perhaps a bit too nice?”

Well, damn she thinks to herself. “It’s not too nice, I just wanted to look good for my best friend’s birthday dinner, that’s all.” she says, waving him off.

“We’re just going to Soobin’s house though… is there something you’re not telling me?” he persists, resting a hand under his chin.

“Of course not! You’re being silly. Come on, we have to hurry, the cab’s a minute away.” she says, trying to stir away from the topic.

Kai grabs her arm as she tries to run for the door.

“Nuh-huh! Baba! I can’t believe you’re hiding something from me! Tell me, come on please?” Kai says, holding her in place and giving her puppy-dog eyes.

B sighs in defeat. “Alright, Ninging. What do you want me to say?” she says, desperate to get it over with so they wouldn’t be any later to the party than they already were.

“Just admit it!” he says, throwing his hands in the air. “It’s simple. Just say that you…”

“I…” she follows him.

“…have a crush…”

“…Have a crush…” she repeats.

“…on Soobin!” he finishes.

“…on Soobin…?” she repeats, letting the words sink in. “Wait, what?”

Hueningkai screeches as he laughs out loud, holding his stomach. “Ha! I knew it! No wonder you’re all dressed and made up! It’s cause we’re going to Soobin’s house and you like him.” he says teasingly.

B was about to deny it, but decided to just let it slide, knowing that her best friend wouldn’t let her leave without getting something out of her. “Whatever you say, now come on, let’s go.” she says, grabbing his arm and pulling him towards the front door of her apartment.

“I knew you like him, I can see the way you two look at each other.” Kai continues as B fumbles with her keys to lock the front door. “Look, you’re even blushing!”

“Oh, shut up, no I’m not. We gotta run, the cab driver’s waiting downstairs.” she says dismissively. And with that, the two of them make their way to Soobin’s house.

Ding dong.

“Soobin! It’s me Hyuka, and Baba’s here with me! Hello?” Kai says, pounding on the front doors after ringing the doorbell for the third time. B had never been to Soobin’s house before, but to say it was huge was an understatement. It was even bigger than B’s family home, the driveway leading up to the double front doors of the house itself was pretty breathtaking already.

“Baba, can you text Soobin to let him know we’re here? All the lights are off, so it doesn’t look like anyone’s home.” Kai says, looking up at the house. The driveway had lights along the path, but the house itself was pitch black. B had already sent Soobin 5 messages since they left her place, but since he hasn’t responded, she wasn’t sure what the next part of the plan was.

“I already texted him, Ningning. He hasn’t replied yet.” she says, biting her lip. What was she supposed to do now?

Right on cue, her phone starts to ring, making the two of them jump in surprise.

“Oh, it’s Soobin, finally.” B says, but before she could answer the call, Kai grabs her phone and answers it himself.

“Soobin, we’re here! Where are you?” he asks. B doesn’t hear the other boy’s reply, but Kai continues. “Ah I see I see, you want us to go in through the back? Like, where the pool is? Why, are you too lazy to walk all the way to the front door again?”

Kai starts to walk towards the side of the house, into the garden and motions B over to follow him. “You’re getting your foyer renovated? Alright, we’re in the garden now, just a few more steps and—”

Just then, the two of them are blinded and deafened by a sudden flashing of bright lights, the blaring of upbeat music, and the collective chorus of about 200 people shouting “Surprise!”

Kai nearly drops B’s phone as she grabs her by the shoulder and shields himself with her body, while B covers her eyes with her hands.

“Wha—” Kai begins, until he sees Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu and Taehyun standing a few steps away from where he and B were frozen. Behind them, a couple hundred people were standing around in anticipation, most of them holding balloons and glow sticks.

“Happy birthday, Hyuka!” the 4 boys in front of them cheer. Kai steps away from B sheepishly with a wide grin on his face. “Wow, you guys really planned all this for me?”

“And you really used me as a human shield?” B says teasingly, punching him on the arm.

“And yes, indeed, we did.” Taehyun says, holding his arms out for a hug. “Happy birthday, Hyuka!”Kai laughs gleefully as he runs into Taehyun’s arms, and soon all 4 boys envelope him in a hug as everyone around them starts to cheer.

“You know, this wouldn’t have been possible without your best friend.” Soobin says, taking a step back and holding out an arm towards her. “Come here, B!”

Kai gives his best friend a knowing smile, and she rolls her eyes at him before smiling warmly at Soobin and walking towards him. He wraps an arm around her and thanks her before proclaiming “Now, let’s party!” which is met with cheers from everyone.

Yeonjun nurses the red cup in his hand, swirling the yellowish liquid around as he sits on a cooler by the patio and looks on at everyone around him, the party going into full swing. He liked to play a little game with himself wherein he observed people in groups and tried to figure out who was drunker than who.

Soobin had his arm around Hyuka’s shoulders as the 2 boys walked around the crowded back yard, with the older boy forcing the birthday boy to take a sip out of his red cup every time he was greeted with a “Happy birthday” as they walked through the crowd. He noticed now that Hyuka was also wearing a plastic crown on his head and was starting to wobble as he walked, and Soobin had to pull him to his side before the birthday boy lost his footing and nearly fell into the pool. The younger boy was clearly much drunker than the older boy.

Beomgyu and Taehyun were seated together around the fire pit with a group of Sophomores and Juniors from MOA. They seemed to be bickering as Beomgyu was loudly telling an over-exaggerated story to the crowd, waving his arms in the air for added effect, while Taehyun would interject every other sentence, and the people around them laughed and stared at the 2 boys. The older boy was definitely drunker than the younger boy, that is if Taehyun had had anything to drink at all.

Yeonjun let his eyes scan through the crowd again until they landed on B.

On Baby, who was dancing her heart out with a red cup in her hand, swaying her body alongside 2 sophomore girls, one of which Yeonjun recognized as Beomgyu’s ex, Ryujin. He watched them dance for a bit, trying to decipher who was drunker than who, when suddenly the 3 girls scream and cheer as Fancy by Twice starts to blare through the speakers. The other girl, the one he didn’t recognize, tilts her head back as Ryujin grabs the girls by the waist and starts jumping to the beat. He was ready to bet that the third girl was the drunkest one among the 3, until he sees Baby start to jump to the beat as well, the liquid spilling from her red cup.

He took a sip out of his own cup as he watched her, transfixed by her dancing. She wasn’t the best dancer by any means, heck she wasn’t a very good dancer at all, but he could tell she had rhythm since she was able to jump and spin and shake her hips right on beat every time, her short skirt dangerously swinging along as she did so.

Just then, the other girl whispers something into Baby’s ear, and her face lights up as she nods and her eyes scan the crowd. When she spots him, she screams out “Ningning!” so loud that almost everyone on the dance floor looks in her direction. She continues to scream his name, jumping up and down and waving her arms in the air, until Soobin sees her and starts guiding Hyuka towards her.

Yeonjun watches on as the 2 groups meet, and Hyuka throws himself from Soobin’s arms to Baby’s arms, who stumbles as she struggles to steady the drunk boy who was over a foot taller than her. Once she gets him to stand upright, she then introduces Hyuka to the third girl, who smiles brightly and giggles when Hyuka drunkenly says something to her as they start to talk. Ryujin briefly says hi to Soobin before turning to Baby as the two of them start to chat as well. The whole time, Yeonjun notices that Soobin had his eyes fixed on her. On the very same girl he had been watching for the past 10 minutes now.

Yeonjun couldn’t tell how drunk Soobin was, but the way he was staring at Baby made him wonder if it was because he was intoxicated or if it was something else. But how would he find out?

He sees Baby take her phone out and start taking selfies with the group. He sees her try to scream something into Soobin’s ear, then the two of them take selfies together, and he hears Hyuka’s dolphin-like squeals cheering them on as they do so.

Just then, Hyuka claps and starts to jump up and down with a mischievous grin on his face. From where he was standing, Yeonjun could hear Hyuka scream “Truth or Dare, now!” as he drags Baby and their group towards where Taehyun and Beomgyu were seated.

Beomgyu claps Hyuka on the back and urges him to take a seat, and they get the group to form a small circle for the game. As Taehyun procures an empty beer bottle and puts it in the middle, Soobin stops him from spinning it.

Yeonjun watches as Soobin’s eyes scan the crowd until they meet his. His face lights up as he shouts “Yeonjunie!” and motions for him to come over. Yeonjun can’t stop the smile from creeping up on his face as he nods, downs his cup and refills it before making his way through the crowd to join the circle.

“Hey, YJ!” Beomgyu cheers as Yeonjun approaches. He gives him a one-armed hug before offering him a seat, between Taehyun and Soobin, who puts an arm around his shoulders and rests his cheek on his shoulder.

Yeonjun laughs as Soobin rubs his cheek against Yeonjun’s shirt. “How drunk are you?” the blue-haired boy asks.

“Just the right amount.” Soobin responds vaguely.

Taehyun leans forward as he prepares to spin the bottle. “Alright, round 1, here we go.” he announces before letting it spin. It makes 3 spins around the circle before landing on Hyuka, who was seated between Baby and the other girl she was with.

Hyuka screams as the bottle stops, and everyone laughs at his reaction.

“Alright Hyuka, truth or dare?” Taehyun asks.

Before Hyuka could answer, Baby screams out “Dare!”

“Baba! You can’t—” Hyuka begins, but Baby just cuts him off.

“I dare you to… ask for a girl’s number! Any girl within the circle.” she says, smiling devilishly.

Hyuka lets out a huff and mutters “Fine!” before making a quick scan around the circle, then he turns away from Baby and comes face to face with the other girl.

“Oh, Yuna! Um, do you mind, if…?” Hyuka asks, fumbling to pull his phone out of the pocket of his jeans. The girl, Yuna, nods and blushes profusely as Hyuka hands her his phone and she puts in her number. As she hands the phone back to him, he says “Oh wait, we need to put in a contact picture. Quick, say kimchi!” as he leans in closer to her and they take a selfie together.

Yeonjun didn’t know if it was cause of the alcohol or not, but he could see that the girl, Yuna’s face was fully flushed now. As Hyuka finishes adding her number to his phone, Yeonjun sees Baby wink at Yuna and mouth the words “you’re welcome” at her. Now, Yeonjun was certain that Yuna’s red cheeks were definitely not just a drunk blush.

Taehyun once again spins the bottle as he proclaims “Round 2!” and everyone watches as the bottle stops and points to Ryujin.

“Ah… Ryujin. Truth or Dare?” Taehyun asks, his excitement visibly waning when their eyes meet. It was then when Yeonjun remembered that Taehyun had never really liked Ryujin, even back when she and Beomgyu were still dating, though he didn’t really know why. The 2 of them just naturally seemed to not like each other. There was just this unspoken agreement that while they both respected each other as individuals, it was clear that they weren’t friendly at all.

“Dare.” Ryujin says, as brave as ever.

“I dare you to kiss any guy in this circle.” Yuna suggests, which everyone nods in agreement to. All eyes go back and forth between Ryujin and Beomgyu then, everyone anticipating something between the friends-turned-exes-turned-friends. Even Yeonjun was watching the pair intently, waiting to see what Ryujin would do.

She stands up then, and walks over to where Beomgyu and Taehyun were sitting. Everyone starts howling and saying “Pucker up, Choi!” which Beomgyu just waves off. When she reaches the pair, she looks between the two of them, and smirks before she leans in between the two boys and whispers “You don’t mind, do you?” before planting a kiss on Taehyun’s cheek, leaving everyone shocked yet cheering in amusement.

Beomgyu bursts with laughter clapping his hands “Damn, Ryu! Nicely played!” he laughs as he gives Ryujin a salute before clapping Taehyun on the back and saying “I did not see that coming. How was it, Tyunie?”

“It wasn’t too bad, I guess? Not that I’d want a repeat.” Taehyun clarifies, which is met with giggles from the girls.

“Actually, if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t that your first kiss?” Beomgyu asks, mouth wide with shock.

“You’ll have to get the bottle to point to me if you really wanna know the answer to that.” Taehyun says suavely, grabbing the bottle and letting it spin once again. Luckily, it didn’t land on him and instead landed on the boy next to him.

“Gyu, truth or dare?” Taehyun asks smugly.

Beomgyu taps a finger on his chin as he decides “Truth?”

“Alright, is there anyone else in this circle who you’ve had feelings for?” Ryujin asks, which everyone reacts to with “Ooh”s and whispers.

“You, duh.” Beomgyu scoffs, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Ryujin smirks as she says “I said anyone else, other than myself.”

Everyone in the circle goes quiet for a moment, and once again Yeonjun finds himself staring back and forth between Beomgyu and Ryujin.

Finally, Beomgyu lets out a sigh as he says “Alright alright, yes, there is someone else in this very circle whom I have feelings for.”

“Have? As in present tense?” Ryujin asks innocently as everyone watches on.

“If you really wanna know, the bottle has to point to me before you get another truth out of me.” Beomgyu says slyly. Yeonjun was amused to see how friendly Beomgyu and Ryujin still were with each other.

The game got a little more heated as the night went on. Kisses were exchanged between some Sophomores and Seniors, drinks were downed, vomit was spewed out and confessions came to light. The bottle even landed on Yeonjun once, and since everyone knew he was the best dancer at MOA, he was dared to give a short lap dance to anyone in the circle, which he gamely gave to Soobin, who shyly covered his face with his hands the whole time.

Yeonjun watched in amusement most of the time, and it was all fun and games until the bottle finally landed on—

“B! Truth or dare?” Taehyun declares, and everyone lets out an “ooh” as she says “Dare.”

Hyuka laughs out loud, clapping his hands gleefully. “Finally! I’ve been waiting all night for this!” he says. With an evil glint in his eyes, he continues “Since you’re the new girl, and I’m the birthday boy, and you’re my best friend, this one has to be big, and you can’t say no. Anyone got any suggestions?” he says, standing up and waving his hands as he spins around in the middle of the circle. Yeonjun laughed a bit at how wasted Hyuka was, but he was also anticipating what wild dare they could possibly come up with.

“Ooh ooh, I’ve got one!” Yuna says, excitedly raising her hand in the air as if she were in class. Everyone expectedly looks at her then.

Hyuka motions her to stand up and she does so, as she faces Baby says “I dare you to spend 7 minutes in heaven with…” Yuna trails off, her eyes scanning through the circle. “With whoever the bottle lands on next!” she finishes, unable to decide on a specific person.

Everyone nods in agreement, and now all eyes shift to Taehyun as he holds up the empty beer bottle and dramatically says “Now, let us decide the fate of B’s 7 minutes in heaven! Who will the universe deem worthy?”

All eyes are focused on the bottle as it spins once, twice, and three times before finally stopping.

Yeonjun lets out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding as he feels all eyes on him. He hears Hyuka laughing manically like a dolphin as Taehyun says “Congrats, Yeonjunie! Looks like the universe chooses you.”

Yeonjun looks up then. First at Baby, who was still laughing along as people in the circle teasingly cheered on. Then at the boy on his right, Soobin, who was looking at him in a way he had never seen before. He was smiling lightly, yet it was like he was trying to communicate something to him without using any words. Yeonjun himself couldn’t explain what he was feeling at that very moment, as Baby holds her hand out to him and says “What do you say, Yeonjun? 7 minutes?”

Whoops and cheers are heard from all around the circle as Yeonjun carefully takes her hand and stands up as he says “Why the hell not?”

When B woke up on the day of Kai’s birthday, she never would have thought that she’d be sitting on the floor in the garden shed of Soobin’s house, surrounded by various rakes and lawnmowers and other gardening tools, squished next to Yeonjun.

Yet there they were, sitting on the floor side by side, phones confiscated by the birthday boy, the surprisingly thick walls of the shed muffling the sound of the party to a low murmur of background noise.

She didn’t know why, maybe it was cause she was a little bit drunk, but she didn’t know what to say or how to act now that she was alone with the blue-haired boy. She thought 7 minutes would fly by quickly just like the night so far, but she checks her watch, the tiny screen briefly lighting up the shed, and sees that only 2 minutes had passed since they were shoved into the dark shed.

She was sorting through her thoughts trying to think or something, anything to say, until Yeonjun broke the silence.

“It’s nice to get a moment of quiet, isn’t it?” he says, resting his palms on the floor as he attempts to get into a more comfortable position, nearly hitting her arm with his elbow as he does so. “Ah, sorry, that was close.” he says, mindful of keeping a small gap between them.

“Don’t worry, it’s fine. And yeah, a little quiet in the midst of a raging party is kind of nice.” she says, slowly starting to relax as well. She didn’t understand why she was so nervous, anyway. It was just Yeonjun.

“So, watcha wanna do for 7 minutes? Wanna play a game?” he asks at an attempt to ease out the awkward silence.

B nods, though she wasn’t sure if he could see it through the dark. “Alright, what game? Like 20 questions or something?”

“Yeah, alright, I’ll start.” he says, going quiet for a moment to think about a question before asking “How was your first week at MOA?”

That was an easy one. “It was really fun, the school’s great and the students are nice. Everyone seems to get along really well with each other. The only thing that I’ve struggled with so far is the adjusting to living alone, but that’s not a bad thing either.” she says.

“Oh, really? What are the struggles of living alone, then?” Yeonjun asks.

“I mean it’s not too bad. It’s just that, all my life, I’ve had—Hey, wait a minute, it’s my turn to ask a question!” she exclaims as she realizes that he asked 2 consecutive questions already.

“Alright, you got me. What’s your first question?” Yeonjun asks. “And no, this doesn’t count as another question.” he adds teasingly.

She laughs for a bit before responding, “Um, let’s see… if you were stuck on a deserted island and could only choose 1 person to have as company, who among your friends would you pick?”

Yeonjun laughs, taken back by the question. “Baby, what the heck? That’s your question? That’s so random!”

She smiles in the darkness upon hearing him laugh, feeling the warm buzz from the alcohol kicking in again. “It may be random, but it’s my question, and you have to answer it.” she huffs.

“That’s a such a safe question though. I thought you were the kind of person who’d dig deep to get answers, too.” Yeonjun says. “By the way, I’d probably pick Tyun cause he’s the smartest guy in the group and he’ll probably be able to keep me alive while being good company as well.”

“What do you mean by safe question?” she asks, before he interrupts.

“Nuh-uh, it’s my turn to ask. If I didn’t have to skip classes on the first day of school, would you have picked me as your partner for the creative writing project?” he asks suddenly.

“Hm, I’m not sure. If you were there and you had asked me, I would have said yes. Though honestly, you and Soobin probably would have ended up partnering up anyway.” she shrugs, though he probably couldn’t see it. “My turn. Why did you have to skip classes that day?”

He sighs before answering. “You see, my dad is a powerful businessman. All my life, I feel like I’ve been groomed and trained to one day take over the company, though the burden on my has gotten heavier ever since I turned 18. He takes me to observe important business meetings and drags me into company events so that I can familiarize myself with the family business and everyone involved in it. Last Monday, he pulled me out of class so I could be by his side at another boring board meeting. Nothing new, he usually gets me excused from classes anyway.”

“Oh wow, is that related to the reason why you had to repeat your senior year at MOA?” B asks suddenly, then she shuts her mouth once she realizes that she just said it out loud.“Tsk tsk tsk, it’s my turn to ask.” Yeonjun simply says, though B gets the feeling that from here on out, he would avoid that topic. “Have you ever had a boyfriend? Or a girlfriend? I mean, no judgement or anything, just didn’t want you to think that I’d assume all people are just straight.”

B laughs at his defensiveness. “That’s sweet and very openminded of you, but as far as I can tell, I’m straight. And yes, I’ve had 1 but that was a long time ago. What about you, have you ever had a girlfriend? Or a boyfriend? No judgement or anything.” she says, teasingly imitating him.

He laughs too. “Fair enough. Yeah, I’ve had a few girlfriends, but nothing serious or anything, more like flirting and casual dating. Not that I haven’t tried to be serious, I’d be open to getting serious with someone, I just haven’t dated anyone I wanted to get serious with…?”

“Wow, no need to be defensive. Again, no judgement or anything. This surprisingly soundproof shed is a safe space. Whatever happens in this shed stays in this shed.” she says reassuringly, trying to keep the mood light. “So what kind of person would you consider worth getting serious with?”

“I don’t really know. I wouldn’t say I have a type. It would be more like a feeling? All the girls I’ve dated so far have all felt the same, like there’s a blueprint for every date, a pattern for every conversation, it all just feels the same. I just haven’t met anyone who made me feel any different than all those other girls, though I mean no offense to any of those girls. They’re all great and everything, they’re just not for me.” Yeonjun says, speaking with ease.

“May I ask, just how many girls have you gone out with?” B wonders.

“No you may not, because I’ve just not realized that you just asked me 2 consecutive questions, so now you owe me 2 answers.” Yeonjun laughs at his sudden realization.

B laughs too. “Damn it, I thought you wouldn’t notice!”

Yeonjun gasps. “You did that on purpose?”

“That depends, is that one of your 2 questions?” B asks.

“Psh, no way. I won’t let these questions go to waste.”

“Alright then, go ahead. What do you want to know?” B says gamely.

“First, are you seeing anyone?”

B pauses, thinking the question over. “Seeing anyone? Like dating? Nah, I’ve been too preoccupied with transferring schools and moving into the apartment and the start of classes and stuff to even think about dating anyone.” she says matter-of-factly. “What’s your second question?”

Yeonjun lets out a deep breath before asking “Baby, will you go out with me?”

There’s a moment of silence as B lets his question sink in. She could hear nothing but her heartbeat pounding through her ears and her breathing start to quicken.

“Yeonjun, I—” she begins.

Just then, the shed is suddenly flooded with light and the blaring sound of party music fills the shed as the doors are thrown open by Kai and Taehyun.

Taehyun holds up his phone, showing that the 7-minute timer he set had gone off. Kai cups his hands around his mouth as he yells:

“Time’s up!”

Kamen Rider W Episodes 01-18

I like my detectives how I like my eggs, hard-boiled.

(GOSH THAT WAS AN HORRIBLE PUN, I'M SORRY)

If you saw my Kamen Rider Zero-One post you may recall that I've mentioned I had intentions of watching he older seasons of Kamen Rider, and well it happened faster than I thought and here we are.

When I decided to begin by W all I had in mind was that I wanted to start from the earliest era since in my mind this would be the closest o Zero-One's style thus it would be easier for me, in many places I saw they listing the Heisei era seasons divided into two parts so to my logic this would be the season to start.

What I didn't expect was... THAT I'D CHOOSE THE SEASON THAT WAS PRACTICALLY MADE FOR ME. As you can already guess, I LOVED WATCHING THIS. At first, it was confusing as hell, then when I see there's this cool looking dude parking his cool ass bike wearing a cool ass hat, and then when I know this guy is a detective obsessed with detective fiction AND I WAS SOLD! And the more I watch the more I fell in love with it.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, allow me to recollect and give a general overview.

This show has a very simple plot but they shine in this simplicity. Because there weren't any huge ambitions so far it made me feel very close to this world, yes they have monsters who use USB devices on their bodies and there's a dude with google on his brain, but when you put this fantastic element aside they did a good job on making me feel like that city and its people are real. What I really like about this whole thing is the structure of the show where all stories are two-parters, I think it's a good way to fill 49 episodes while keeping a good pace without having to pad things with filler to fulfill a quota. I may have watched 18 episodes but to me it felt like I just watched 9 episodes of a 45 minutes show on Netflix and if I didn't have to write this post I'd definitely had continued watching until a passed out because I didn't feel time passing. Another thing this show has going for is the music, from the opening to insert songs passing through BGM there are a lot of nice tunes and straight out bops in there, I really need to check their soundtrack sometime.

The characters have been very hit or miss to me so far. I really really like Shotaro, to me he's the perfect main character for shows like this because he has all elements we expect from a Red Ranger/Pink Cure but he's not only that, we see his passion but we also see his worries, more often than not he comes as the voice of reason of certain situations, and it's not a thing that happens only in certain episodes to try to pull an emotional moment or to be used as a comic relief, this is present, on a form or another, in all episodes and love it. Phillip in the other hand I have a really hard time with him, his quirk of being SO OBSESSED with things can be seen as cute in some moments but absolutely despiteful in others. Akiko is another part of the cast I dislike, I don't know if she was written to be utterly annoying, or if it's the performance of the actress that is way too much, but I couldn't sympathize with her in any moment.

This show also has great side characters, I don't remember their names but I think I love all of them! The cop duo is great, the informant is hilarious, I don't get Santa's existence on this but he's lots of fun, the ramen dude is kinda charismatic, and they have WTomo as recurring characters which I completely forgot was a thing! The villains are also quite interesting, I don't really like most of the designs of their Dopant forms (Taboo is the only one I like), but to me they have a very interesting dynamic and while their goal so far doesn't seem like anything spectacular, I really enjoy when the show takes its time to give us many looks in this family and gives us the opportunity to see their machinations in detail.

Thinking about the rider, W has a very simple design but it's not a detriment it works very well both aesthetically and as a gimmick, that I really like btw even though I get very uncomfortable when they use finishers where they get split in two. I like even more that Phillip and Shotaro don't need to be at the same place to be able to transform (you should take notes precure). They also have some really nice gadgets, I love the camera bat and the motorcycle for example, and this mix and match of forms gives some very creative combinations and attacks. I still think the belt is a bit too much, but it doesn't bother me like how the Zero-One's does.

This post is already pretty long but I'm talking about 18 episodes, I feel like I need to go through some stories in more detail.

I really like the second story (Episodes 3 and 4), and a huge part of that was how interesting the powers of the Dopant were. At first, I thought we had way too many scenes of Saeko and Kirihiko's wedding but after watching more episodes and seeing how this relationship developed(?) I think we needed to have that.

The story of the girl who lost her father (5 & 6) was a very good surprise to me, the show was very chill so far and then they drop this emotional bomb and OOF. It was amazing, the whole setting was quite interesting, the little girl was very strong and I really felt for her, I hated her mom at sometimes but in others I could understand her, and Shotaro's intern turmoil if he should tell the girl the truth or not was also incredible. I'm still puzzled about how Phillip knew about their special greeting though.

Episodes 7 and 8 were without a doubt my least favorites and the only episodes I straight out hated. To start the "victim" of the week was just the worst dude ever who in the moment their friend decided to go try something else he felt like if it was okay to put her name in to be killed. In whatever way you put it, this isn't cool. and to make things worst THIS SHOW REDEEMS THIS DUDE LIKE IF WHAT HE DID WASN'T EXTREMELY ABUSIVE AND ABSOLUTELY WRONG. Another thing this episode did was make me hate Phillip who was so fucking obsessed with this stupid dance move and showed completely disregard to not only his mission but also the girl in this episode to the point where THEY LOST FOUR MEMORY DRIVERS TO THE VILLAIN BECAUSE HE JUST COULDN'T LET GO OF THIS THING THAT I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY HE WAS RESEARCHING IN THE FIRST PLACE. UGH I hate this story so much.

The story of Episodes 11 and 12 was pretty interesting as well, the way the Virus Dopant worked in here was very clever, and also the thing that started this whole mini-arc was a very interesting topic I wish they had dowelled more on traffic accidents and such instead of going "girl got me because she was being cheated" thing.

Wakana's arc from episodes 13 and 14 was amazing, probably my favorite episodes so far. I thought it was going to be something to comment on the obsessiveness of idol fans, and secretly I wish that was the case rather than a dumb rivalry between two women, but I can't deny that what we got was indeed pretty good. One thing I really enjoyed from this episode was seeing past "victims" return, it shows that this world is alive and that the past episodes weren't just isolated events. It was also very good to see the seed of Wakana's redemption being planted, and the revelation that Phillip is her brother came in a very good way too. Very well rounded episode.

Sadly this can't be said about the next two arcs, they had a major pacing problem for me. I think what both of these arcs needed was more of a connection between the two, especially for Kirihiko's defeat/redemption.

Episodes 15 and 16 are fine, it was the typical "villain takes on the hero's identity to crush their popularity" but that had elevated stakes, but I feel like Phillip and Fang needed to be worked more and maybe if they had left a few things out of both episodes they could've built more into this. And you can kinda say the same about 17 & 18, they tried to do so much in just these two episodes that the major event of one of the lieutenants being defeated felt very rushed. I think they could've left this plot of kids with Gaia Memories and a single Memory being used by multiple people be an arc solely for this problem so they could go really in dept with such an interesting conflict, and let this be a more proper send-off to one of the big bad guys.

Despite said problems, I still enjoyed the shit out of W and I'll definitely try to sneak in a couple of episodes more before going to bed today. This was my first time covering so many episodes at once and I hope it wasn't a dreadful experience to any of you who sit through almost 1700 words of me rambling trying to sound smart. XD You can expect my review of Zero-One's episode 10 either tomorrow or Tuesday and if nothing goes wrong I'll be back next Saturday with another 16 episodes of W to talk about. See ya folks~.

You would think it's Kaminari? But it's actually Sero. A good slap on the butt after a good training session amongst bro's that leaves Kaminari flustered and red faced mayhaps?

2. Who wants to be immortal and who wants to die before they’re old?

Kaminari is ready to go okay, but Sero is like “death? Nah.. not, yknow, feeling that..”

3. Who smokes and who pulls the cigarette from between their lips every time they try to light one?

Kaminari tried to smoke once in high school to look cool, and Sero would put up a big fuss, which Kaminari actually appreciated because it gave him a perfect excuse to stop and, thank god, he actually hates smoking.

4. Who always has cold hands and who is always warming them up for them?

They both do! But not just in lunches, also on laptop screens, on the bathroom mirror, on the microwave, etc. Being pro heroes mean it's hard to find time to see each other even when they live together, so little notes get left out to show they were still thinking of the other.

Ohhhh def Kami, cuz lets be real, its 100% his first kiss, and he's really scared of fucking it up.

Neither cuz thats a unhealthy habit yo, but have they taken blow's for each as pro heroes? Yes they have! Sero is probably more likely to take a hit, and shrug off any injury though.

Kaminari thought the sleek black would be cool and edgy, but hes also clumsy, and has almost dropped it a LOT. So Sero buys it for him and Kami uses it just to spite him.

Kaminari may be a fashionably challenged preteen but he glows up okay? So he has WAY to many shoes than he needs, and Sero does not care for it. Sero has like, 5 pairs of shoes tops, and ofc he doesn't wear shoes in the apartment because he's not an animal.

PERSONALITY:

I love people, I am known as the mom of my friend group. Since I am a little older than most of my friends, they tend to come to me for advise. I love music! I always strive to help others when an open opportunity arises. I am very emotional, so I tend to get hurt easily :/ I love pushing myself to the limits. I love hugs! I also give great hugs! I love animals, I am also obsessed with little mini things, because I myself am little.

~Honesty Hour~

I was asked by @lovelynhiddenkittens to do all 150 questions in the Honesty Hour tag! 😮 Thank you, lovely and curious stranger~! 😆 But since that’s a lot for one post, I’ll break it up into chunks of 50 questions so it’s easier for all my blogging buddies to digest. 😊 Starting... now! 😝

1. Who was the last person you held hands with? That would have to be Alex. He was warming my hand for me because it was ice cold. Though he doesn’t know that’s because I intentionally held my super cold drink for a really long time with that hand, then casually mentioned how cold my hand was so he’d try to warm it... >//> Introverts are sneaky flirts, what can I say? 😆😏

2. Are you outgoing or shy? Shy, definitely. Though there are alters in the system much more outgoing than me.

3. Who are you looking forward to seeing? Tyler! 😄 I’ve been staying over at her apartment every weekend this past summer, and always enjoy our movie and gaming marathons. 😝

4. Are you easy to get along with? I think so. I’m not very easily angered, a pacifist at heart, and a people-pleaser at my core. 😂 So it’s pretty hard not to get along with me.

Ehhh... Depends which alter you ask really. Me, personally? Not so much. My family has always told me our family line is cursed to have bad luck, so if I believed in such things, I guess I’m doomed. 😂

15. What good thing happened this summer?

I’ve started working on myself and my social life, strengthening friendships irl and online, or, at least attempting to. 😅 Sometimes I’m just bad at not isolating. But this past summer I’ve been spending basically every weekend at my friend Tyler’s apartment and hanging out with her core group of friends. It’s been a nice break from the chaos of the school semester. 😊

16. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?

Well, considering she’s on the other side of the country back in my home state, probably not. She was a lovely first kiss, but I’ll leave it at that. 🤭

17. Do you think there is life on other planets?

With how many planets there are in the galaxy; the universe? Not to mention how many planets within The Goldilocks Zone that share a similar atmosphere to earth within the observable universe alone... How could I not think other life exists? At the very least, in some kind of bacterial form, though, I dare to dream a little bigger. ✨

18. Do you still talk to your first crush?

Well, I’ve never really had a crush, per se, though plenty of squishes. :3 But my first squish did not turn out well, so, no. :c

Yes, especially if I go all out and light candles and play music on my phone. 🕯️🎶😌 However, I don’t do that very often. I take showers mostly.

20. Do you like your neighbors?

Yeah, they’re chill people. The neighbors with the overly-territorial pitbull that kept us prisoner in our car for hours and broke into our fenced-in backyard to take massive doggie dumps out of sheer hatred for us moved away because their dog kept terrorizing the neighbourhood and was going to get put down if it didn’t stop breaking out to chase children on trikes and joggers onto rooftops. So, the neighbors we have now are awesome! 😆

21. What are your bad habits?

Sometimes I’m too honest and don’t know when to stop talking, other times I’m so socially anxious I might as well be a feature of the wall at parties. 😂 I also have trichotillomania, a compulsive disorder related to OCD, in which I get really strong urges to pull out my hair sometimes, so definitely a bad habit... Just talking about it kinda... ehhhh... moving on. e~e

22. Where would you like to travel?

A lot of places. Though Scotland is at the top of my list. Scotland is a huge part of my family’s heritage, and some of my family still lives there. So I would love to visit and spend some time in nature there~ 💕

23. Do you have trust issues?

Yes.

24. Favorite part of your daily routine?

Well, anytime I get to de-stress is nice. I know wiping down my face with a face wipe always feels nice and refreshing after a day out running errands and attending classes. It’s the little things that are the most help~ 😊

All of it. If I could edit my body, that would be nice.

26. What do you do when you wake up?

Hit snooze on the alarm a couple times, get up, walk to the bathroom... you can imagine the rest.

Nope, I’m quite happy with my vampire pale skin, and even my dirty blonde, curly lion’s mane of hair, and my blue eyes ain’t so bad either. I’m not completely hideous, just 97% hideous. 👌😂

I either make a joke or just enjoy the silence. Depends what mood I’m in. Sometimes I’m more introverted and just want to sit in silence or listen to music instead of talk. Other times I just wanna connect with people and I tend to crack a lot of darker, self-deprecating jokes as a way to break the ice, or tension if I feel some.

38. Describe your dream girl/guy?

I want someone who is genuinely kind, patient, and funny. It also helps if they are neurodivergent like me, and have similar enough interests, sense of humor, etc. to my own. c: Overall, I just want to feel comfortable and safe with someone. 😊

40. What do you want to do after high school?

I’m already out of high school, bub. Now I’m in college, and I still have no idea. I have dream jobs, dream homes, dream lives. But none of them seem realistic.

Depends on the crime, really. If I hired someone to babysit my hypothetical children, and they forgot to tell the children to clean up their toys, I believe a second chance is in order. If they, however, ditched the job to mack on Paul Puffy Lips next door, leaving my children to starve, I don’t believe I’ll be giving them another call.

42. If you’re being extremely quiet what does it mean?

It means I’m probably really socially anxious at the moment and would prefer to not be made the center of attention. o~o’

43. Do you smile at strangers?

Yes, sometimes to spread cheer and joy, other times because I’m worried they’ll think I’m an up-to-no-good deviant or zombified by depression, which is how I feel at least 80% of the time, and worry everyone notices, even strangers, who probably would not assume such things, but that’s social anxiety for you. 😂

44. A trip to outer space or the bottom of the ocean?

Why not both? However, humans are so preoccupied with space that we’ve only explored 5% of our oceans. I don’t want the oceans to feel lonely, so I’ll visit them first. 💙

Sometimes the looming responsibilities in my life, other times I just don’t get out of bed.

46. What are you paranoid about?

A lot of things, but the most pressing concern of mine is that everyone will inevitably leave me because I’m a terrible, horrible human being who doesn’t deserve friendship. 😅

Taper Week 1 + Final Big Workout

I am in the home stretch, which is strange because I’m feeling very different from other marathon training cycles.

Normally at this point, I am plotting out exactly what I am going to do as soon as I cross the finish line: drink a beer, eat a burger, and not engage in any physical activity for a glorious 14 days. Last year, the US half marathon championships couldn’t come soon enough. Even on the starting line, all I could think about was covering 13.1 miles as quickly as possible solely so that I could take a break. Definitely not the right mindset for running your best!

Traditionally, taper has been hard for me. Not from the standpoint of “taper crazies” - I’m not going to lie, when people complain about running less I just don’t get it. At the same time, my taper is relatively small. I ran 108 miles for my peak week, and last week I ran 92 (which includes one day off). When you track my 7 day stretch from Tuesday to Monday, I still covered 102 miles. This week will be lower, though, coming in at 76. It will be weird to only run once per day most of the week. Actually, today was my first single run in weeks and I felt like I had infinitely more time on my hands! Of course that means I was less productive, because the best way to get things done is to be really busy, amirite?

I’m starting to wonder if my early season setbacks will have actually served a greater purpose. I feel like the last few weeks have been a turning point in my fitness and that things are coming together. About 4 weeks ago I was running a warm up and I thought to myself you need to just be okay with the fact this might not be a PR training cycle. After I had that thought, I wound up running a better-than-expected workout and I feel like I’ve been on the up and up ever since. I’m not sure I have ever made it to this point in training feeling as though my legs are still fresh.

On Sunday I did what I love to do during taper: I pored over my running logs and looked at data. I love to look at my mileage totals. Here is my mileage during the same 92 day periods leading up to each race:

Twin Cities: 1,019 miles Olympic Trials: 1,163 miles Pittsburgh: 1,147 miles

At the end of the day, I will have only run 16 fewer miles than I did in the 3 months leading up to the Trials. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though. That training window includes a 3 week period where I was dealing with a hamstring issue. If we look at the final 6 weeks of training, the mileage totals are slightly different:

Twin Cities: 505 miles Olympic Trials: 554 miles Pittsburgh: 565 miles

I have definitely come on stronger the last few weeks whereas in past training, I have struggled during taper to have motivation to run. At the end of the day, training and racing only produces more data, so it will be interesting for me to see how the increased mileage plays a role in the outcome.

I’m in the process of reading Deena Kastor’s Let Your Mind Run. This book could not have come out at a better time for me. I like to read during taper. Before Twin Cities, I read Once a Runner. Before the Trials, I read Suzy Favor Hamilton’s Fast Girl.

Deena’s positivity has helped me look at the last few months and reframe them. At one point I truthfully wondered why I was bothering to run this marathon when it didn’t seem like I was going to be in my best shape. I will be the first to admit that I struggle at times with perfectionism when it comes to running (seriously nothing else though. sometimes I wonder how I graduated college). Something that tremendously helped was when my coach reminded me this race doesn’t have to be perfect - it just has to be good, I’m already a pretty damn good runner.

Deena’s book inspired me to reframe a lot of the negative thoughts that have been holding me back lately. For instance, I have used one word to describe this training cycle: setback. I’m pretty sure I have uttered that word more times in the last 4 months than I have in my entire life. Instead of thinking about the things that have hindered progress, why not think of them as things I have overcome? At the end of the day, I have run a shit ton of miles after dealing with:

-a calf injury -a plantar injury -a hamstring injury -a badly infected blister -a couple illnesses -a post-tib issue -the worst case of eczema I’ve experienced in my 20′s -unmet expectations at races -new food sensitivities that undoubtedly contributed to the previous 8 items on this list

I prevailed despite all of these things. What’s so hard about a marathon after your toe doubles in size because it is infected and is so painful you have to drive barefoot in the middle of winter because your shoe is applying too much painful pressure on your toe when you hit the gas pedal?

Deena’s book is also helping me see the other things I do - the things that are easy to forget - that make me a better athlete. Joe Vigil has a quote that there is no such thing as overtraining, just underresting. I love that. This training cycle I have made it a point to:

There is no guarantee that any of these things are going to make a better runner; but, there was something that Des Linden said leading up to Boston that spoke to me: I could live with myself if I didn’t win Boston. I decided I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t try. (referring to her training)

If I don’t reach my ultimate goal of breaking 2:30 in the marathon, I’ll live. But, as long as I am training I will have a hard time not doing everything in my power that I know will contribute to success. I often think of my mom telling me in high school (when I was half-assing my assignments) “if it’s a job worth doing, it’s a job worth doing well.”

The past week of workouts has been good. I’m not sure where the notion came from that taper weeks are easy. In reality, the lower mileage gives way to more intensity. Here’s what my week looked like:

M: off (first dasy off in 6 weeks!) T: AM: 4, PM: 12 mi total w/ 6 x mi @ marathon effort ending with a mile at half marathon effort W: AM: 10, PM: 6 Th: AM: 6 x 400 m @ mile race pace w/ full recovery, PM: 7 F: AM: 10, PM: 5 Sa: AM: 8, PM: 5 Su: AM: 16 mi cut down finishing in 5:44; PM: 4 mi shake out

Total for the week was 92, and I’m really happy with how my legs felt during that cut down. I remember that workout before Twin Cities and crawling through the shake out later in the day because my legs were trashed. The biggest difference I have noticed during the past 4 or 5 weeks is that my legs are recovering really well.

Today was my last big workout, and it was actually one I have never done before! The plan was 3 x 15:00 at threshold pace. While there is little fitness to be gained at this point, I’m so glad I did this workout because it was a huge mental win.

I went to the tow path for the workout, which is a crushed limestone path in Indy. I figured 15:00 should be roughly 2.5 miles. My plan was to do a 2.5 mi stretch, then a 2.5 mi loop through a neighborhood, then the 2.5 mi stretch back. I did not account for how much rain we have had lately, and the tow path was a muddy, sloppy, puddle-dotted mess. We also have had pretty cold weather, so today was quite the contrast with 60 degrees and 100% humidity / light rain. Fun fact: I have run in a sports bra and shorts once this year, and that was in February.

My superhero running strength is that I’m really good at not going out too fast, and at progressively picking up the pace in workouts as I go. Actually, when this doesn’t happen I generally know something might be wrong with me. Today was not that day.

My first mile of my first 15:00 was 5:49. This is not my threshold pace on a perfect weather day, and it’s definitely not my threshold pace on wet, muddy, soggy ground when I am slipping and sliding everywhere. My second mile was 5:46. I wound up covering 2.57 mi in 15:00 minutes.

My fatal flaw as a runner is that, when I see these splits, I feel as though I must continue getting faster. not the point of this workout. So, I convinced myself that I needed to slow down.

My first mile was 5:52 of the second 15:00 tempo. Honestly, my legs felt like garbage. I was running through a neighborhood on completely soaked streets trying to make turns and I ran way too hard in my previous effort. My quads felt like crap. My 2nd mile was 6:00. I panicked. Quads are heavy + slowing down. When was the last time I felt this way? Oh, right, when I was anemic in the fall. At 12:00 I just stopped running. I contemplated calling it a day and jogging back to my car. Actually, I convinced myself that was what I should do. If my quads are heavy, why add extra strain? Then I spiraled. What if I feel this way during the marathon and just walk off the course?

Finally I decided I was going to finish the workout no matter what, even if it meant running 6:30 pace. I took a couple minutes to regroup and decided the final tempo would be 18:00, to account for the 3 that I missed when I cut the second one short. I would start slow (closer to my actual threshold pace), and no matter what stick this one out. First mile: 6:07. Much better. Second mile: 6:02. 3rd mile: 5:55. So, I made a workout that wasn’t supposed to be hard much more difficult than it had to be.

But, I’m happy that it happened that way. It is very rare for me to have a bad day in practice. It’s even rarer for me to stop. I don’t get a lot of opportunities to practice bringing it back around and making the day successful. Having at least one experience like this going into the marathon is important, because if there is anything we’ve learned in the past 10 days, it’s that you can think you’re going to drop out of a race at half way, then find yourself becoming the first American in 33 years to win the Boston marathon.
