thoughts that are deep but probably wrong:
saul goodman isn’t okay with people dying, he’s resigned to the idea that according to the people he loves most, he hurts people
and staring into howard’s dead eyes, he has deeply internalized this so why not suggest that badger should die? why not suggest hank go on a trip to belize?
but then people are legitimately put in danger or killed, and his eyes go big. brock getting poisoned was horrifying. mike’s disappearance gave him pause. the mass murder in the prison, when they killed dan wachsberger, is “where he draws the line”
saul goodman isn’t okay with people dying, he just thinks it’s going to be his fault anyway. “Jimmy, this is what you do. You hurt people over and over again…”
let’s get it over with

Here’s what South Africans can expect the business travel industry to look like in 2023
South Africa eased its final lockdown restrictions earlier this year, allowing virtual meetings to take place in person and creating new opportunities for business travel to return to pre-pandemic levels. While this news is a source of relief for the travel industry, it could come at a cost for travellers. Source: Supplied | Marc Wachsberger: CEO of The Capital Hotels and Apartments Why…

STARCRASH (1978) – Episode 169 – Decades Of Horror 1970s
“You know, my son, I wouldn’t be Emperor of the Galaxy if I didn’t have some powers at my disposal. Imperial Battleship, halt the flow of time!” Yup. That could come in handy. Join your faithful Grue Crew – Doc Rotten, Chad Hunt, Bill Mulligan, and Jeff Mohr – as they check out Starcrash (1978), starring Caroline Munro, Christopher Plummer, Marjoe Gortner, David Hasselhoff, and Joe Spinell. What’s not to like?

An outlaw smuggler and her alien companion are recruited by the Emperor of the Galaxy to rescue his son and destroy a mysterious superweapon designed by the evil Count Zarth Arn
Director: Luigi Cozzi (credited in the US as Lewis Coates)
Writers. Luigi Cozzi & Nat Wachsberger (screenplay); R.A. Dillon (additional dialogue)
Music by: John Barry
Selected cast:
Caroline Munro as Stella Star
Candy Clark as Stella Star (voice) (uncredited)
Marjoe Gortner as Akton
Judd Hamilton as Elle
Hamilton Camp as Elle (voice)
David Hasselhoff as Prince Simon
Christopher Plummer as The Emperor
Joe Spinell as Count Zarth Arn
Robert Tessier as Thor
Nadia Cassini as Corelia
Salvatore Baccaro as Neanderthal Man (uncredited)
Omero Capanna as Spaceship Guard (uncredited)
Hélène Chauvin as Amazon (uncredited)
Bill picked this one and he remembers originally liking Starcrash a lot more than he does this time around. Caroline Munro is still fetching, even though Candy Clark dubs her, but every actor seems to be acting in a different movie. There is a colorful, comic-book style to this weird oddball movie, but as Bill points out, sometimes you can’t go back again.
Jeff has been wanting to see Starcrash since Decades of Horror 1980s covered Maniac, another film starring Caroline Munro and Joe Spinell. Jeff sees the obvious similarities to the recently released Star Wars (1977), but the bad dialogue and long, drawn-out fight scenes cause Starcrash to… crash. Doc remembers great-looking stills in magazines of the time, but their quality does not lead to a good film. The dubbing is laughably bad and the movie is just awful. Still, there is a sort of weird charm to it.
If you have a hankering for late-70s, cheesy, space opera, Starcrash is available to stream with ads from multiple services, and on physical media as a Shout Factory! Blu-ray.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode in their very flexible schedule, chosen by Chad, will be H. G. Wells’ Empire of the Ants (1977), starring Joan Collins and Robert Lansing.
We want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans: comment on the site or email the Decades of Horror 1970s podcast hosts at [email protected].

It goes without saying that making any movie is a pretty gargantuan endeavor. You have to put together a cast, a crew, a script, a director, and first of all you have to make sure that there is enough money to pull it off. Sometimes, even if all the different components manage to fit into place, something can go seriously wrong. The history books are full of projects that never made it to production. But what about those who came to film before being buried? This could be the result of a terrible accident, a financial problem, or a change in management at a studio. On August 2, 2022, it was revealed that the planned DC Comics adaptation, batgirlwould no longer be released, even though it had already been fully filmed. The blockbuster stars Leslie Grace, and would have featured the return of Michael Keaton in the role of Batman. Here are 11 movies they scrapped during or after production. batgirl Although it has already been completed and cost US$90 million, batgirl was shelved this year, just a few months before its scheduled release. The DC movie stars Leslie Grace in the title role of Barbara Gordon. "The decision not to release 'Batgirl' reflects the strategic shift in our leadership when it comes to the DC Universe and HBO Max," a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said. "Leslie Grace is quite a talented actress and this decision is not a reflection of her performance." The Batgirl has fallen victim to a changing regime at Warner Bros. It was originally made as an exclusive HBO Max release, but was reportedly going to be theatrically released. Leslie Grace in 'Batgirl' (Warner Bros Discovery) My Best Friend's Birthday In fact, Quentin Tarantino's first movie wasn't Reservoir Dogsotherwise My Best Friend's Birthdayan amateur black-and-white comedy starring Tarantino and his old video store partner, Craig Hamann. The film was completed in 1987, five years before Reservoir Dogs hit the screens. While it would not have been given a wide release anyway, the film was damaged in a development lab fire, destroying half of the footage. The full script for the film and a compilation made from the surviving footage are available online for Tarantino fans to explore. The Day the Clown Cried In Jerry Lewis's legendary lost film, the comedian plays a German circus clown who is arrested and sent to a concentration camp after ridiculing Hitler. The few people who saw early cuts of the film were damning in their reviews. the star of The SimpsonHarry Shearer wrote: "This film is so radically wrong, its pathos and comedy so out of place that you couldn't, in your fantasy of what it could be, improve on what it really is." Jerry Lewis (AP) Copyright disputes involving producer Nathan Wachsberger meant that the film never saw the light of day. Who Killed Bambi? Revered film critic Roger Ebert teamed up with Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren to pen this punk-rock twist on Hard Day's Night. Russ Meyer was in charge of directing, with the Sex Pistols themselves as protagonists. However, filming was abandoned just days into production. Those involved have cited several disputed reasons for the film's collapse: objections from Fox studios; a personal intervention from 20th Century Fox board member Grace Kelly and, perhaps more likely, financial struggles variously attributed to the film's abandonment. Number 13 Alfred Hitchcock's first film was Number 13 1922, a sociopolitical drama. Clare Greet and Ernest Thesiger teamed up to star as husband and wife. Alfred Hitchcock in 1926 (Getty Images) However, filming was abandoned midway through, after funding fell through. gore In 2017, Netflix canceled a biopic of the late writer Gore Vidal after its leading man, Kevin Spacey, was accused of sexual misconduct. The film was already in post-production. Michael Stuhlbarg, who co-starred as Vidal's longtime partner Howard Austen, later addressed leaving the film in an interview. “I understand what is happening,” he commented.
"To be honest, we all have some hope that maybe...eventually there will be an opportunity for people to see it in the light it's meant to be seen in." Bogart Slept Here Mike Nichols had been directing this 1975 film, based on a screenplay by Neil Simon, for two weeks when production was shut down for good. The reason was reportedly because of the film's star, Robert De Niro, whose method acting style failed to mesh with Simon's dialogue. Bogart Slept Here later reworked and filmed as The Goodbye Girl two years later. 10 Things I Hate About Life Few canceled films have been as controversial as 10 Things I Hate About Lifean unofficial sequel to Gil Junger's 1999 hit 10 Things I Hate About You. The film, which centers on two characters who meet while trying to take their own lives and fall in love, starred Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonell. Two months of filming took place in 2012, but had to be abandoned due to Wood's pregnancy and management changes at the film's production company. Although production was supposed to resume in 2013, it never did. The producers sued Wood for breach of contract, while Wood's attorney claimed that he was never properly paid for work done. Evan Rachel Wood was going to star in the discarded film (Getty Images) I, Claudius The Roman Epic of 1937 I, Claudius it remains one of the most infamous unfinished films to (almost) be made. Filming was canceled midway through after one of the stars, Merle Oberon, was injured in a car accident. Some historians and commentators have speculated that the injury was used as a pretext to excuse fierce creative divisions between producer Alexander Korda and the film's leading man, Charles Laughton. The film became the subject of the 1965 documentary The Epic That Never Was.

Starcrash (1979)
Tumblr media
You can’t make a movie like Starcrash by accident. It’s a loopy Star Wars knockoff; the kind of sci-fi madness that doesn’t make any sense and throws everything at the screen hoping to see what sticks. For bad movie lovers, it's a delight.
In a distant galaxy (but in the future instead of the past) outlaw smuggler Stella Star (Caroline Munro, in a variety of bikini-like attires) and her sidekick Akton (Marjoe Gortner) are given an ultimatum by the Emperor of the Universe (Christopher Plummer): return to prison or help save the galaxy from the clutches of the evil Count Zarth Arn (Joe Spinell). Joined by police android Elle (Judd Hamilton, donning a southern accent) and a cheap-looking alien named Thor (Robert Tessier) it’s up to them to save the entire galaxy!
If you need some Star Wars to hold you over while waiting for the new one to come out but even with the animated movies and the Ewok adventures you find yourself scrambling for material to pad out the long wait, pick up Starcrash. It’s a lot like Star Wars with a miscellany of other things thrown in. You like Princess Leia in her slave bikini outfit? How about a movie where the female protagonist spends her entire screen time in bikinis?! You like silly robots? Elle is twice as doofy as R2-D2 and C3-P0 put together. You like practical effects? This movies’ effects are so practical that you can clearly tell every space ship is a bunch of random tubes and model trees glued together in strange shapes. The Tuscan raiders have nothing on a planet of Amazons or the cave people armed with sticks and bones that our heroes face. This inept attempt to cash in on the Star Wars craze is one laugh after another.
In my book Starcrash has everything you want in a good bad movie. It’s got memorable scenes and characters. My favorite has to be Stella Star. She’s the awesome smuggler, the hero… but she’s also kind of completely useless. In her defense, so many other players pull out random superpowers out of nowhere her decent combat prowess and piloting skills seem like small potatoes compared to being able to come back from the dead or deflect laser beams with the palm of your hands. It’s a cheaply made film that tries really, REALLY hard, like a little engine that’s missing all but one wheel. It would be sad if it wasn’t so darn entertaining. Count Zarth Arn might as well be Ming the Merciless and we have several monsters with an uncanny resemblance to some of Ray Harryhausen’s most famous creations.
It's also got material that’s wholly it’s own. When I said earlier that our heroes have to save the galaxy from the clutches of the villain, I chose those words deliberately. He really does have fingers big enough to crush the universe. I’ll leave it to that. No element of this film is well done, not even the acting is good. And that means it’s pure gold throughout.
I love bad movies but finding those who hit the magic mark and earn themselves legendary status is rare. There are obvious titles like The Room or Troll 2. I’d even say Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky and Wickerman are must-sees in the category. Starcrash is right up there. Can you imagine if someone had never seen Star Wars and you tricked them into thinking this was the real deal? That would be cruel, but wow what a blast it would be to see your friends’ horrified face as they try and deduce why this trash is beloved by so many. Someone try this out, but please, show them the actual movie afterward. (On DVD, November 6, 2015)
