actually I also wanna talk about the part where Percy convinces Bob to kill Hyperion because even though Percy never says anything outright sinister, the way he handles the entire situation with such cool ease, playing on Bob’s emotions... its so insane???
Because Annabeth’s reaction to the three of them encountering Hyperion reforming is: “oh this is bad we need to get out of here” She knows if Bob remembers himself, that it's not going to play out well for Percy and her. She also thinks about how they're being pursued and don't have a lot of time. Her solution to the problem, seemingly, is to leave.
But Percy's solution is to work the situation to his advantage. He re-affirms Bob's loyalty to him:
Tumblr media
Percy then re-establishes Bob's moral code: "Some monsters are good. Some are bad. This Titan is bad. He tried to kill me and a lot of people. He's not good like you are."
And it ends with Percy leaving the choice of whatever to do with Hyperion to Bob but of course, is it really what Bob chose to do? Bob decides to kill Hyperion. It's not what he may have done, if Percy hadn't intervened. But it's exactly what Percy was oh-so-sweetly leading Bob to do.
And listen, I'm not claiming that it was exactly morally bankrupt of Percy to take advantage of a once-evil titan who could get him and his girlfriend through hell in one piece. Percy, Annabeth, they manipulate monsters and enemies all the time. Annabeth ended the previous book with manipulating Arachne into weaving her own web. So it's not exactly like she's against using manipulative tactics, in theory.
But Bob, at this point, is not just some monster. He is so painfully sincere in his belief in Percy and their friendship, so yes, it does feel a bit sinister whenever Percy uses Bob... and he really uses Bob.
And I think what makes the scene so unsettling, it isn't just that Percy manipulated Bob, its how well Percy manipulated him. He manipulates Bob so well that Percy doesn't even have to kill Hyperion... because Bob does it for him. He manipulates Bob so well, that Annabeth couldn't tell if Percy was purposefully trying to manipulate the situation. (Newsflash, he most definitely was). Like holy shit.

guy who so desperately tries to find god. who wants to have faith in a higher authority to guide him out of the hole he's in. from the weight of guilt from simply existing, as the person he is. but every time he thinks he's answered his higher calling it turns out he's made the Morally Incorrect choice and his path to goodness and holiness was the road to the devil all along

the batman's grave #1
[ID: Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth talking in a den. Alfred is sitting on the couch as Bruce is starting to enter a room from behind a bookcase. He announces, “I have to get to work. That unexplained death.” Alfred groans, “Here we go again. Can't you just get into the head of the killer, like those detectives on television? Seems much easier.” Bruce (dramatically) replies, “I can't think like a killer, Alfred. I can only think like a victim.” Alfred starts to pour himself another glass of whiskey as he stares at Bruce. He starkly tells him, “You immerse yourself in the dead, Master Bruce. And you come back each time a little less alive. The only thing your grave is missing is a date.” Bruce continues to walk away. END ID]

I think Shadow should try to destroy the world again. But this time not because he's been manipulated by his creator. For himself. It's self care.

G'raha looked so serious while he pleaded his case to venture into the World of Darkness with the Warrior of Light. The sudden conviction in his tone had Arsay at a loss for words. Still, she did not hesitate to meet his request with an accepting nod. He was an important friend and in the passing moons that they'd come to know each other, a strong fondness for him had taken hold of her. The prospect of helping G'raha find the truth behind his mysterious inheritance made Arsay's heart pound. It was the perfect venture for them to embark on. The first of many, she hoped. The two turned towards the impossibly tall spire that dared to pierce the heavens above. Arsay's resolve strengthened in its presence. When they next find themselves gazing at the tower -with their quest completed and the world no longer under threat of total destruction- she'll properly ask G'raha to be a companion in her travels. A grin crept its way onto her face as her gaze shifted to him. If Arsay could find it within herself to bare her heart to others so readily just as he does… perhaps their future adventures will find them together, hand in hand.

legitimately insane how to some people, "we should wipe out this ethnic group that we've violently constrained to a ghetto because they're just genetically more violent and dangerous" is a reasonable and justifiable statement but it's Nazi Rhetoric to say something like, "it's bad that Israeli civilians are being killed but acknowledging that as tragic includes acknowledging that the almost daily state-sanctioned murder of civilians by the Israeli government is also tragic and unacceptable"
btw guys speaking of Nazi shit - can we check in, alongside what's been done to Palestinians in the last 75 years, what's the Israeli government's take on the Azerbaijani government's newest round of ethnic cleansing of Armenians? oh are the Israeli government's actions maybe not determined by Jewish identity, but by a commitment to colonial supremacy which puts them on the same page as other violently genocidal states like Azerbaijan, the US, and the UK? god can you Even Imagine?
(framing speaking against Israeli war crimes as inherently antisemitic requires understanding the Israeli state as representing all Jewish people, when it doesn't even represent all Israelis.
framing Israeli war crimes as synonymous with Jewish identity is pretty fucked up if we're being honest. I don't think that controlling water and power and movement for a captive population and shooting children dead for throwing stones is an inherent value of Judaism, any more than I think the torture carried out at Guantanamo Bay is an inherent value of Christianity - in both cases they're atrocities carried out by a far right genocidal government using religious identity as a shield.
Calling statements like "Israel is committing genocide against the people it's displaced" inherently antisemitic is doing more to further the idea that all Jewish people are associated with Israel than saying "the Israeli government is doing war crimes," which is a statement of fact about a country that exists and does war crimes. Is criticism of Israel as a nation often used as cover for antisemitism? Absolutely. Does that mean the Israeli government isn't doing literal war crimes repeatedly, on record, while talking publicly about scrubbing an ethnic group off the map? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well in the last 48 hours they've definitely cut off water and power to almost 600,000 civilians and allegedly used white phosphorus against civilians so in an extremely factual and unambiguous way yeah man those are Literal War Crimes whoever does them.)
#red said#sorry man saying 'it's bad to do genocide and war crimes' doesn't actually mean 'I'm happy when Jewish people die'#it means 'there is a context to Palestinian militants attacking Israelis which involves Palestinians being killed wounded or imprisoned#very nearly every day by the Israeli state and settlers. so no you can't treat a Palestinian attack on Israel as an unprecedented tragedy#without also recognising that Israeli forces have repeatedly visited attacks of similar magnitude on Palestine which is ALSO tragic#as well as the regular state-sanctioned murder of over 200 Palestinians in the 9 months BEFORE the Palestinian attack on Saturday#It means 'Palestinian lives don't matter less than Israeli lives' not 'Israeli lives don't matter'#this week is literally the FIRST TIME SINCE RECORDS BEGAN that more Israeli lives have been lost than Palestinian#bc for every year since 2000 orders of magnitude more palestinians than Israelis have been killed in this war#you don't get to say 'it's only bad when X ethnic group is killed it's GOOD to kill Y ethnic group' then accuse OTHERS of genocide apologis#it is legitimately a tragedy for Israeli civilians to be killed and wounded en masse. the people are not the nation.#but it's not less of a tragedy for Palestinians to have been killed and wounded en masse week after week for decades.#and when peaceful protest gets you shot and bombed and acting against the military gets you shot and bombed#and just existing doing nothing at all gets you shot and bombed. living near someone accused of terrorism. looking for your fucking cat.#when you're getting shot and bombed daily whatever you do. it's not surprising that sometimes people move to violence against civilians.#because as people from Gaza have said. better to die fighting for survival than die on your knees waiting.#which like. I'm not making a moral judgement one way or the other bc i am intrinsically disgusted by mass killing. as we all should be.#and this might be the movement which liberates Palestine and it might be the excuse which allows Israel to finish Palestine#and either way hundreds of people are dead on both sides and however you slice it that's a fucking tragedy#but we cannot. treat it as if Hamas' strike began the violence. and ignore the 200+ Palestinians killed by the IDF this year beforehand#Palestinian lives matter as much as Israeli lives. 700 Israeli citizens dead is a tragedy. 600 Palestinians dead is a tragedy.#and if you lay out the numbers from this weekend alone you can pretend that Israelis are getting decimated by Palestine.#but to do that you have to ignore the facts that for every 1 Israeli killed in the past decade 3 Palestinians die.#and that Israeli deaths happen in occasional outbursts of violence while Palestinian deaths happen every week#whether or not Hamas or any other Palestinian faction initiates violence

Seriously imagine the fact that Left 4 Dead will live on longer than Apex Legends or Overwatch.
Really let it sink in that I don't mean that in terms of community, but in terms of being able to play the game 10 years from now.

Excerpt from Establishing Council of the United Sovereignties of Auradon, General Meeting Minutes, Early Spring, year XXXX
Motion #22: Villainous Uprising:  King Adam of Rouen-Metz
King Adam presented to the council the current status of the villain uprising, which now controls the kingdom of Atlantica, the border with Waverly City to the east, and the border with Astoria to the west. The troops dispatched by the United Sovereignties upon our last meeting have been returned to their respective kingdoms in the form of a large quantity (roughly equivalent by weight to the bodies of the soldiers originally dispatched) of black sand.
In light of this development, King Adam proposes that the council dispatch the full military forces of Auroria and Charmingdale to disburse the villain uprising and recover control of Atlantica.
Princess Briar Rose of Auroria proposed a second division of troops, in order to lessen the burden on specific kingdoms within the United Sovereignties.
King Adam reminded Princess Briar that the current troops were returned in ashes, and suggested that perhaps this abject failure at quashing the villains was due to the scattered nature of the previous defense. Furthermore, he brought to the council the proposal of sending all of the troops from each of the united sovereignties in waves so that if the first were to fail once again at suppressing the forward motion of the villains, the second could have an encampment prepared a short distance away so as to avoid the constant moving a troops into position while the villains march forward.
The council approved the deployment of a united force from the kingdoms of Auroria, Charmingdale, and New London, to attack on the current front lines. An additional contingent will dispatched from each of the other kingdoms in the United Sovereignties who holds a standing military force, to establish a breakpoint in the kingdom of Westerly should the villains evade the front line deployment. Motion approved 16-2, 1 abstained.

Now that the WGA strike is being resolved (yay!), the studios need to hurry up and settle with the actors as well, because a) people deserve to be paid fairly and b) Michael Sheen needs to be unchained.
Can you imagine? That man kissed David Tennant and had to sit quietly about it for months! He's going to be completely unhinged when he's finally allowed to talk, and it has to happen asap!

Idea: how would each member of the IC of Anyone act if they happened to find themselves in the middle of the movie Purge?
I have never watched those movies but basically, any crime is legal for an entire night and if people come into your house to kill you, you're on your own.
I am going to assume this is the BNHA version of the movie purge, where people have quirks, and the Purge was made to remind people how good they had it now that there were quirk laws since the Dawn of Quirks. It also happens in the US.
Kurogiri
He finds himself a nice home in which to chill and does not move from there. He is not interested in fighting. He doesn't care about the general craziness. He might pick up a cat there. Anyone trying to break into this very nice home will be warped into another city but people are welcome if they want to also chill.
Nagisa
Nagisa would be absolutely terrified. She is a hacker. She isn't used to violence and right now, she is in a setting where people might want to gleefully murder her for unknown reasons. She is clinging to Kurogiri's arm the whole time. Before Kurogiri stops her, she keeps watching the horrible image of the CCTV.
Dabi
He would go out, robs a grocery store, and incinerates anything trying to implement the grocery curse. He finally arrives to wherever Kurogiri and Nagisa are, extremely smug.
He meant to leave again and to keep an eye on Shouto who is running around (of course he is) but, and he will deny it to his dying breath, he stays in the fancy house to reassure Nagisa. Between Kurogiri and him, more and more people flock to the house (who might be a villa now that I think about it) to seek sanctuary. They watch Disney movies the whole night.
Hawks and Shouto
They are out there, saving people. An entire night of running/flying around and preventing violent crimes. At dawn, they have to call Kurogiri to pick them up and get them to safety because they are too exhausted/in pain to go back. They are haunted by all the people they didn't manage to save.
All for One
Two things can happen:
1 - AFO doesn't change anything to his habit. This man goes to the restaurant, does some shopping, enjoy whatever is still open during the night without worrying one bit because if anyone attacks him, he can simply vaporize them.
He is untouchable.
2 - Or, to prove a point, AFO commits all the non violent crimes, proving by A + B that the Purge is a very stupid moves. He starts fires? Whoops, no fireman to take care of those. He commits some good old industrial spying and gives enterprises secrets? Well, have fun watching a behemoth of a company falling from one day to another and special, hand-picked companies being the ones with a monopoly on the market. He does all the white collar crimes, he makes people destitute and others richer than ever, he just brings chaos wherever he goes.
Izuku
Every people who had a hand in implementing the Purge and who is benefiting from it is killed. It starts with the President then it trickled down, like a curse.
Their bodyguard can't save them. Whoever is doing this is unstoppable. All those powerful people who thought they were untouchable are freaking out but whoever is killing them can't be killed, can't be bribed, and can't be reasoned.
Five minutes before the Purge ends, this grim figure wearing a hoodie warns them that the members of the government who implements such laws do not deserve to live and that on every Purge night, he will find them and force them to know what the victims of the Purge, those people who are too poor to flee the country or to hire people to protect them, have to go through.
That person disappears before the eyes of a dozen of people as soon as the Purge night is over.
By the time the next Purge arrives, laws are in place where it's now illegal to kill politicians/people who have large companies (money, read money).
It doesn't save them.
In the next week, the Purge is abolished.
