#warp pipes

Been thinking about the warp zone area and thought of something interesting. It looks massive and by all accounts- pretty difficult to navigate. Yet one would assume the ability to fast travel to other kingdoms within minutes would out weigh the negatives of taking a wrong turn; just hop back in the way you came and try again. Except from what we see, apart from the bros falling in by accident, no other living soul is using the warp zone. It's been largely abandoned. The NY pipe is rusty and forgotten. Same goes for the one in the MK; all overgrown and dilapidated. I believe the implication is Bowser has purposefully made the warp zone too dangerous to use by making the likelihood of landing in the Darklands very high. Not only is his area dark and ominous when compared to the other normal green pipe exits we see, but it's also massive. Perhaps he has gotten some of the magikoopas to enchant the area to be that way.

Imagine the zone to be the equivalent of a big ol' subway. It may be large and confusing but it's ultimately a way to quickly get from one location to another. Except now someone has rigged the tracks to where if your train car gets too close to a specific location, your train gets diverted into the pits of hell. Yeah, I too wouldn't use that method of transport if I was aware there'd be a chance of that happening. Citizens have stopped using it because it's just not safe anymore.

It's why folks like Toad are so certain that if you go into the big scary pipe, you're never coming back. He knew EXACTLY what Mario was describing.

For Bowser, I think this accomplishes two things:

1. You've effectively cut off easy communication to other lands, making it much more difficult to coordinate a defense. It's probably why Peach, Mario, and Toad need to travel to the Kong's Kingdom mostly on foot.

2. If anyone is unlucky enough to fall into the big scary pipe, you can have minions waiting on the other side to capture and bring them in for interrogation on the goings-on in the other kingdoms.

I have been trying to figure out how the warp pipes in this movie verse work...

For starters, why IS there a warp pipe just sitting at the very depths of a city sewer system on Earth? And why have no other humans (aside from the Bros) fallen into it?

Well, Peach did mention that "there's a whole universe out there"; What if, long ago, that universe was all interconnected, and many worlds could visit each other whenever they pleased?

Or (and this is the theory I'm sticking to), what if the warp pipes are organic matter, like plants that sprout and grow out over time? Like the roots of trees! But (much like tree roots) some warp pipes can spread out too far, and accidentally connect to other worlds. I imagine there are experts or scholars in the Mushroom World who keep track of all the warp pipes and where they go; if they find one has gone too far, then they simply "block it off", preventing any from using it.

If you notice, the pipe Mario falls out of is on a wall, and (unless you do a well timed jump from one of the giant mushrooms) there's no way to get back in there again.

The warp pipes branching off too far can also be at risk of creating "crossroads" (like we see in the warp zone scene). This could also be why some pipes are blocked off.

Bowser blocking the one to his kingdom makes sense as well. He's not going to use it (too big. And he has a flying fortress!), and it stops any unwanted guests from stumbling in.

Pipe Lion

There is good news and bad news.

The good news is that I can fight Pipe Lion (the name of the Giant enemy) THAT FRICKIN ATE MY MOM AND MENTOR.

Sigh.

For some reason a lot of people from my adventure were here.

Captain scurvy was trying to make a profit on some of the stolen goods.

Daisy was there taking charge

The beanish family were championing me.

Alice was threatening to shoot Pipe Lion

Ricardo and Mario's family we're trying to keep calm.

Miyamoto had that weird screen thingy he uses trying to figure out what was going on.

Rosalina and Egadd were the most notable.

They had given me a new weapon.

The warp staff

It's some weapon that uses pure warp energy to create concentrated blasts.

The only other thing similar to this was made by a guy in the '70s after drinking a lava lamp. He was discovered on an entirely different Island from where he apparently was last seen with no clothes, a yogurt container, and something he called a "boom tube"

I knew what I had to do. Fight.

That thing is actually a lot more huge than it's presented here though.

It was a pretty standard fight.

I managed to defeat it after shooting large blast of energy that builds up while dodging it's attacks.

The weird thing is that my mom and Mario didn't leave its mouth.

I adore your Broken Warp Pipe AU art and writing! How do you think the brothers being separated from each other for so long would affect their personalities? They spent their whole lives growing and changing together, I wonder how their personalities would diverge if forced apart

Unfortunately, they both deteriorate a little. Part of it is due to the circumstances surrounding their separation (such as Luigi’s failed fight with Bowser right after he and Mario got split up), part of it is because they're so unaccustomed to being without each other.

Luigi

Despite appearing more competent from the outside... gaining the ability to fight, mechanical prowess, and lightning powers... Luigi has wilted emotionally. While he used to not care what people thought of him, now he’s overeager to fit in, barely doing anything at all unless he's told to do it. He appears caught in an eternal fight to prove himself, always off on missions and journeys he has no desire to undergo, as though he thinks that if he follows his own impulses for one second he'll be abandoned. The only person he’s somewhat comfortable around is Princess Peach. Though he often tries to make himself "replacement Mario" for her she can see right through it, and tries to reach through his insecurity to help him relax.

Mario

While Mario has gotten better at stealth and puzzle solving in his journey to find a way back to The Mushroom Kingdom, he has lost much of his ability to regulate his emotions and impulses. He has just as much bullheaded determination to help people as he did before, but became less emotionally connected to those he helps amidst his pinpoint-focus on reuniting with Luigi. He throws punches and runs his mouth more often than he ought to, landing in him in a number of fights that he has only survived because he has also gotten good at running away. Getting into fights is only one of many of the bad habits that have formed during his adventures, as his anger at himself for losing his brother (again) and desperation to figure out how to get to The Mushroom Kingdom has eclipsed his every other self-preserving instinct.

There's a couple of things the sequel could do with Daisy to differentiate her from Peach aside from their personalities: 1) she came across Sarasaland as an adult, and 2) over half the time she has no idea how to rule a kingdom

While these ideas aren't bad, I really like the idea that King Totomesu just found baby Daisy randomly one day and immediately took her in as his own cub. And the other three rulers react like that one scene from Sunny in Philidelphia-

But after five minutes they all vow to protect the baby with their lives.

Bowser Junior

During an experiment that Iggy and Ludwig were performing in hopes of improving the travel speeds of their spaceships, an accident caused all eight members of the Royal Brood to be pulled into multiple wormholes and scattered across the cosmos. Junior ended up on a planet filled with Dino Piranhas, and struggled to survive until a trio of strange, squishy creatures found and seemingly adopted him.

While Junior tried keeping his distance out of fear that these squishy folk were actually kidnappers, it didn't take long for his curiosity and need for comfort to overpower any of his fears. He bonded fastest with the purple-maned one; often riding piggyback around the ship or curling up next to him and his fuzzy friend when it's time to sleep. He turns out to be a quick learner when it comes to their languages, easily figuring out short sentences in English and, by courtesy of the red-clad one, several curse words in Italian.

Dalex

A fifteen-year-old human who was snatched in the dead of night while taking his dog out for a late-night bathroom break. Despite his near-overwhelming fear, he teamed up with Mario and Luigi to hijack the ship the three of them were imprisoned on, successfully taking control of the newly-dubbed Starship Mario. It takes a while for Dal to actually warm up to the Bros., but regularly talking about their respective families helps him avoid cracking from under the stress and homesickness.

After rescuing Bowser Jr., Dal becomes the turtle kid's primary caretaker, along with some of the younger Koopalings once they too are found. Before meeting Iggy and subsequently getting a translator built, Dal taught Junior how to speak bits and pieces of English, and can understand his words better than Mario or Luigi. Think of it like "babysitter learning a kid's speech patterns while other people still hear gibberish."

Viridi

Dal's loyal companion and fuzzy baby child. He was abducted alongside his owner and stayed as close to Dal as possible during both their confinement and eventual starship takeover. 'Distraction' was the name of this dog's game, barking at their captors with varying degrees of success during the fight. Hard to tell if they'd never heard a dog bark before or they were actually scared by it, but they got an old-fashioned Mario Bros. Beatdown regardless.

Compared to all the other "crewmembers," Viridi's the most calm, even excited about what awaits them on their new journey. He likes the odd scaly child; those claws give the greatest scritches he's ever gotten in his life (sorry Dally). Of course, being excited and curious isn't always a good thing, as Viridi's go-to method of following his nose can lead to trouble. Of all the times to lose the leash, it had to be during a space adventure... =_="

Also I don't think that we're going to cut off ties to Earth completely. It's just that we want to be more presentable and not in a panic when we reveal to Earth that the Mushroom Kingdom and panko exists.

Also mistreatment of shy guys?

I mean there are prejudiced jerks out there who obviously need to find something better to do and realize that they are wrong.

I mean Queen Okra (Princess Peach's Late mother) had a shy guy as the head of her royal guard. Joana the mighty. she was a powerhouse.

I used some of her training cassettes even.

Also, how many of you are there. is it just shy guys? Are there other species?

I know there are not just shy guys. Heath Baron is famously known for living on top of the Coconut mall since his first juice bar was located there. I got coffee from a Shy guy at the cashier at Burger Sync. And the Mayor of Castle Town is a shy guy.

The Sprixie Kingdom's Location

So many people believe the Sprixie Kingdom takes place in another dimension. They used the opening scene from Super Mario 3D World to prove this. I believe this is incorrect, in addition to I believe I may have figured out where the Sprixie Kingdom is.

So first off the opening, people believe this is Mario and friends traveling across dimensions. I don't think this is the case, I believe this is how all Warp Pipes look like when being warped. And that we haven't seen this before because these are Clear Pipes and it is giving us our first glimpse on how it looks.

So the second thing is the Sprixie Kingdom is littered with ? Mark Blocks and Green Pipes. Why is this notable??? Well..... Blocks are established to be constructed of various materials giving them distinct looks as I mentioned in a previous post. By extension blocks like the Prize Blocks are exclusive to the Mario World, and this would place the Sprixie Kingdom on the same planet. More evidence for this is the presence of Pipes like the Green Warp Pipes. These are unique to the Mario World and in Super Mario Odyssey it's established the Pipes are one of the main industries of the Mushroom Kingdom. So another detail placing the Sprixie Kingdom on the same planet.

Now when do research on this I noticed some details about the Sprixie Kingdom. Now correct me if I am wrong, but these specific Birds are primarily found in the Mushroom Kingdom or at least it an surrounding areas. If so then the presence of the Birds would imply the Sprixie Kingdom is not to far away. But the second one is there are some trees in the Sprixie Kingdom. But correct me if I am wrong but these specific trees have only ever been found in the Mushroom Kingdom and places on the Mushroom Continent. If so this would be further evidence that Sprixie Kingdom is somewhere nearby.

But the main detail I noticed was the presence of Toad Houses with Toads in them in the Sprixie Kingdom. Why is this here? This would imply the Sprixie Kingdom is under the rule of Princess Peach like the Kings of SMB3, or were once under the rule of the Mushroom Kingdom. Because why else would Toads be living here? We know Toads are almost exclusively been found in the Mushroom Kingdom and the Mushroom Continent as a whole. Particularly in places under the rule of the Mushroom Kingdom and with some posts in the Koopa Kingdom.

Now for the where. Where do I think the Sprixie Kingdom is? Well I think it's somewhere in the lake or inland sea to the South of the Grasslands. So first off all the details I pointed out would imply it's somewhere within the Mushroom Continent if not really close by. When looking at the map we see the Sprixie Kingdom is several Islands surrounded by a larger landmass. So I think it's somewhere in this body of water similar to how Lavalava Island is in these waters. By extension I think Lake Lapcat is somewhere nearby. So I noticed Lake Lapcat is surrounded by mountains which are similar to the ones seen behind the lake or inland sea to the South of the Grasslands. So I think Lake Lapcat is on the other side of some mountains near the Sprixie Kingdom. Similar to how the Great Lakes are relatively close together. Of course this is just my hypothesis on it's placement, so what do you think?

Broken Warp Pipe AU

Based off of a concept by @multicolour-ink and @wiz-witch​ where the warp pipe in Brooklyn breaks down, leaving Mario and Luigi stranded separate dimensions: X.

From there I just went off the rails.

Mario (Brooklyn Side)

Mario has not stopped working toward finding a way to The Mushroom Kingdom since he and Luigi were separated, and has run himself ragged in the process.

He started off trying to discover if there is a working warp pipe somewhere else in the world. After all, if there was one just under their noses in Brooklyn, surely there’s another somewhere! He just needs to search, and search hard.

He’s always on the move, working some side-gigs to stay afloat while spending every second of free time pursuing and studying warp pipes. He eats bad, sleeps bad, and even smokes sometimes when he’s sleep deprived and can’t focus (though he always feels guilty about it afterward. Luigi would NOT approve.)

Mario hates being alone, but spends most of his time alone, because he feels that’s what he deserves at this point. He’s reached so many dead ends he feels like he’s already failed his brother, but refuses to slow down all the same.

When he’s feeling particularly hopeless or lonely, sometimes he talks to nobody as though he’s talking to Luigi. This helps a little. 

He calls his family every couple of months to let them know he’s okay, and to see if there’s any sign that the Brooklyn warp pipe is working again. These phone calls are brief, and he never properly explains where he is or what he’s doing.

 Mario has stolen (and usually returned) many ancient artifacts and documents, and broken into many a location trying to uncover a warp pipe. He hasn’t hurt anyone, but his impatience and determination has earned him a bit of a criminal record in the human world. 

In his travels, Mario found one or two working warp pipes, but they led to weird alternative dimensions not even close to The Mushroom Kingdom. He has done some heroism in these places whenever the situation presents itself (he’s still a good guy), and has been rewarded with helpful information about warp pipes and how they work.

Through knowledge he gleaned from his travels, combined his own advanced skills with traditional plumbing, Mario eventually pieces together how to repair warp pipes, which he uses to fix his own pipe back in Brooklyn.

Luigi (Mushroom Kingdom Side)

When Mario first got trapped in Brooklyn, Luigi desperately tried to fill his brother’s shoes until he returned. When Bowser inevitably reattempted to destroy The Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi tried to channel his brother by taking the tyrant on alone. He was very nearly killed as a result. DK, Toad, and Peach successfully fended off Bowser in the end, but Luigi was left physically and emotionally scarred in a way he has not quite recovered from.

Luigi still does his best to be a hero despite everything, but is only barely functional unless he has someone backing him up. Princess Peach sticks close to him whenever possible, and Toad is ecstatic to have him as a friend and adventuring buddy.

 Luigi has an official place on the Toad Brigade, and is happiest when he’s doing missions with them.

He eventually develops into one of the most formidable heroes in the dimension, especially after he gains the powers of the thunder hand. He rarely gets recognition for this though, because he very much does not behave like the traditional hero, and far prefers the sidekick position. He wouldn’t have it any other way.  

Luigi does not spend a lot of time in his and Mario’s house, save to keep it clean and tidy. He has not moved any of his brothers things, except to keep them dusted. A part of him still holds out hope that he’ll be back one day.

Princess Peach hooked Luigi up with an apprenticeship with Professor E. Gadd during one of his slumps, and he spends most of his nights sleeping over at the lab. The professor is happy to have him around; Luigi keeps the place so neat and organized, and makes the best cup of coffee!

Though they have some wardrobe changes, both Mario and Luigi have their original hats, and are extremely protective of them.

My favorite hobby rn is combining Owl House scenes/plotlines with the Mario movie so allow me to put this one out there; 

Imagine after the battle in Brooklyn the gang discovers the warp pipe has broken completely and they can’t return to the Mushroom Kingdom, so Mario and Luigi have to let Peach, Toad, and DK stay with them for the time being. They spend several months searching for another pipe, with many bonding moments among the gang happening—including a budding romance between Mario and Peach—as their friends adjust to living in the human world. Mario and Luigi’s parents having to take care of these new people and learn more about their world, and eventually decide to help them find a way home too. Mario goes through a crisis where he’s overwhelmed by guilt, cuz maybe if it weren’t for him the pipe would still work and his friends wouldn’t be trapped in another world far away from their loved ones, and he quietly decides if they do find a way back he’s just going to stay in Brooklyn since he feels he’s caused everyone enough trouble, which becomes more difficult for him to do the more he bonds with them.
