First waterbug here that I’ve seen ever since I moved out here.  My roommate and I were trying to kill it, it was funny.  My son was waiting outside his door, anxiously waiting for the outcome of the “bug”.

I am still not sure how it got into the house or how it got on my son's wall, maybe it was in the boxes or gym equipment which I moved in from the balcony storage.  I thought I finally can live in peace in a place without seeing a darn roach, but I guess that’s not happening.

I still remember my son saying “Mommy, Mommy!” He seemed extremely anxious, but I was playing Rapster with my roommate and was almost finished with the song.  I kept quietly shushing my son until we were done.  Then when I finally asked him what happened, he said “Mommy there’s a bug in my room!”.  I hurried and there it was, the waterbug, walking on my son's wall art.  I screamed, yes, I screamed and called for my roommate.  I thought he was brave but he was truly creeped out as I was.

It is funny how the most tiniest things, such as bugs, tend to frighten such large creatures like us.  If only we knew that bugs run away because they are more frightened then we are.  You must already have guessed that we had quite the chase.

This bug’s story ended quite sadly, if I must say so myself.  His/her body pieces got vacuumed up after being stomped by a size 12 heavy-weight boot.  Then it’s body fluids got removed from the creamish-colored carpet using Oxy-Clean Spot cleaner, which I must say really works.

Well, this is the end of my story about the first encounter with a waterbug in my new state and hopefully the end of waterbugs period.

So I’ve been in the new house for 2 days total, and it’s...fine.  I knew that once the reality of this life change became unavoidable, my enthusiasm would dwindle.  I have tons of stuff to unpack (went from a full 3br/1ba house to renting two fairly small rooms and sharing a bathroom) and a lot of it is stuff that I never use but want to have for my eventual forever home.  So I just have to find a way to store all of this shit in a very small space.

A big problem tho: my roommate “gets cold” which means that they prefer the AC on 77.  I kept the AC in my house on 73, so yes I am fucking suffering.  I got her to agree to turn it down to 75 but that’s still too hot for me - I’m sweating inside my house, which is just unconscionable.  Two days of being stinky and itchy.  Also she is the type to drift in and out all day and regularly leave doors open, which introduces lots of pests.  I killed 3 giant roaches this morning alone, 2 in the kitchen and 1 in the fucking bathroom.  I started unpacking a box of cleaning products and there was a roach in there that definitely was not there when I packed it.  I hate cockroaches DEEPLY and this is genuinely concerning for me.  I don’t think I can spend two summers in this house if it’s gonna be a sweaty, roachy experience. 

I’ve been crying a fair bit.  I never wanted to lose my little duplex home and this move definitely didn’t happen on my terms.  I feel forced into this and that’s not helping me cope, not to mention the heat and pests.  I have to prioritize buying a house - it just has to happen, and very very soon. Next move needs to be into a house that I own, though I know I can’t pull that off in a year.  I don’t have that kind of capital to throw around.  But I’m sick of living on other people’s fucking terms and in other people’s fucking houses.  I want to spray pesticides all over that house, add weather stripping to the door jambs so all those fucking roaches won’t wander in, and turn down the goddamned air conditioner.  I’ve woken up at 4:30am the past two nights because I’m too hot to sleep.  This won’t last.

Our friends wayyyy back when had such high hopes for us. "In 2023 they will use whales as transportation!," and "sports underwater!" Cuz yesterday I caught myself saying to my mother "gotta love mouse season." Old people need to lower their expectations on us cuz we still can't even keep mice out of our houses.
