Would your closest ally be as dark as they were?
The alarm on your desk let you know you had 5 minutes to attend the meeting. You gathered up your items and headed out. Your hidden agenda would have to wait until after this stupid meeting was over.
Arriving at the meeting, you weren’t sure what to expect. Everything seemed to be running smoothly inside of the gang and there were no immediate threats that they should know of. Even if there was something going on, it was rare you were requested to attend these meetings, your expertise wasn’t really helpful until mission plans were already set.
When you started with the gang, Jackson assessed your skills and found you were scary deadly with a weapon and had extensive knowledge of poisons and drugs. Jackson immediately assigned you to join Bam Bam’s weapons team. A few months of grunt work and you stumbled upon a passed out Bam Bam on the floor of the poison lab. He was barely breathing and his pulse was so weak that you knew without an antidote immediately he wouldn’t even make it up to the medical wing for proper treatment. You assessed his symptoms and were able to find a couple antidotes that might work in his mess of a workspace and inject them before getting him up to the medical wing for proper treatment.
A week later you were in his office and he was drilling you with questions on how you knew what to use to save him. The poison was one he synthesized himself and getting the combination of antidotes correctly was a one in a million shot. You just got lucky that you could identify his symptoms and find something that would usually counteract them.
After what felt like hours of questions and a formal investigation against you led by Mark, who insisted you had to be spying on Bam Bam’s work to get that lucky, your name was cleared. After that, you were briefly transferred to Yugyeom’s division to work with him on mild poisons in the interrogation rooms. Once you finished that assignment, you were called in to JB’s office and promoted to be the advisor to the youngest two leaders. No one had risen as quickly as you had, and it was pure luck that you got on their radar so quickly.
Being the advisor to Bam Bam and Yugyeom wasn’t a challenging job. You actually enjoyed the talk of new weapons, poisons, and methods of interrogation. They also didn’t often need your direct advice, much of your advising was done over coffee and casual conversations, which is why this formal advisor meeting was so strange.
You sat down in your assigned chair between the two as the meeting began.
“We are all here to discuss a grave matter,” JB said as he stood before everyone in the room, “It has come to our attention that there is a spy among our ranks.”
You immediately froze in place. How did they find you? Was it the recent influx of letters from ‘mom’? You had been so careful.
“There has been talk of a raid from a government agency who seems to have just a bit too much inside information for it to be just their investigative skills.” JB took a deep breath as he started a slide show. Your handler was on the first slide. “This is the woman we believe is the mole’s handler.” He moved on to another slide, “it looks like she is using the mail to get her messages into the base. We don’t yet know if letters are being sent out or if there is another method of communication going out.”
“Do we have any clues as to who it is?” Yugyeom asked, clearly ready to interrogate anyone to death if need be to protect his gang.
“Not yet,” Mark spoke up, “I’m working to see if I can trace footage of her drop offs and calculate who received letters at the same time as the delivery schedules. It could take weeks to figure out though, we don’t know how many letters there are or if it is only one person.”
As far as you know, it was one person. No more letters should be coming in before the end of the week, so that can stall them, but won’t it also look suspicious that they have suddenly stopped? Maybe everything will end before they can connect the dots. Even more of a reason for you to figure out who to save quickly.
“When should we expect the raid?” You asked, hoping that their intel was off.
“We aren’t sure,” JB said, running his hand through his hair, “It doesn’t seem like they are doing any serious preparation yet, but whispers have been heard that it will be soon.”
You and Bam Bam were given the task of preparing weapons for the government raid and hiding any illegal poisons before they could be discovered. The last thing you needed was Bam Bam’s crazy poison concoctions being used by the government against you.
You were dismissed from the meeting and headed straight to your room. You needed to think fast and get through to the rest of the G7 leaders. You were sitting on your bed, head in your hands, thinking, when you heard a knock on the door.
“Come in,” You said, taking a deep breath, praying it wasn’t bad news.
“I brought you dinner,” Bam Bam said as he walked in with a tray of food, “Soup and bread with some ginger tea.” He smiled, “I hope that’s okay.”
“Something on your mind?” You asked him, rubbing your hand up and down his back. He shook his head as he nuzzled into you.
You nodded with a soft smile on your lips as he put the tray down on your desk and walked over to your bed. He sat down next to you and hugged your arm.
Skinship with Bam was normal, but this felt different to you, softer, deeper.
“Can we just cuddle for a while?” He innocently asked, looking up at you with pouty lips.
You giggled and nodded. This would not be the first time the two of you needed support from one another and cuddled. He was by far the most openly affectionate of the leaders.
After long moments of silence, Bam Bam finally broke the stillness.
“I’m scared, Mommy.”
Mommy? Did he just call you Mommy? You thought you heard him wrong.
“About the raid?” You asked, running your hands through his hair.
“Jaebeom has never been this concerned before,” He whispered close to your ear, “He knows more than he’s telling us.”
That sentence alone worried you. Did he actually know the truth, know you were the spy? If JB did, you were not long for this world.
“Will you distract me from everything, Mommy?” Bam asked you as he pulled himself closer to you, his half hard erection brushing against you.
“Do you really want me to Baby Boy?” you asked, knowing you definitely heard him say mommy this time.
“Please…” he breathlessly moaned into your ear as he gently grinded against you, seeking friction for his growing erection.
"Hands up baby,” You ordered, moving quickly to straddle his hips. He raised his arms, letting you pull his shirt over his head
“M-mommy” He whimpered, feeling your heat near his now fully erect cock. You realized that you loved hearing him call you that. “Please.” He whispered, pleading with you to do something. You bent down and kissed him, grinding down, feeling your dripping slick coat his cock. You kissed his cheeks and down his neck. He squirmed under your touch, needing all of your attention. You leaned back and looked down at his hard member, his tip had already turned bright red and there was a thick vein pulsing down the front. You smiled, knowing that just that little bit had done so much to him.
“Good boy.” You grind down on his hips as a little reward, forcing a shaky breath out of him. You brushed back his soft hair before kissing his plump lips.
You got off of him for a moment, only long enough for you to remove your dress and him to remove his shorts. Bam bucked his hips up as you returned to your spot in his lap.
“Do you need mommy to fuck you, baby boy?” You grinded down on his thigh, giving him a taste of what was to come.
“Yes, mommy! Please fuck me!” He whined out, his eyes already looking blissed out.
“How should mommy fuck you? Maybe I should sit on that flushed face of yours, let your beautiful lips do some work. Or... maybe I should just suck you off? Do you want that?“
"I want you to ride me, Mommy.” He said as he tried to move you forward off of his thigh and onto his lower abdomen. “I want to feel your wetness. That’s all I’ve wanted since I saw you this morning,” he confessed.
You couldn’t say no to the squirming man below you. You hovered over him, holding his cock in your hand, guiding it slowly deep inside of your heat.
“You’re so big, baby,” you said slowly moving up and down on him. “You fill me so well,” you moaned out, feeling the stretch that he gave you.
"It feels so good, Mommy,“ He moaned out as you kept slowly moving up and down, holding yourself up on his toned chest.
Bam called out to you, gripping you waist tightly, begging you to go faster. You began bouncing a bit faster on his dick, your boobs bouncing in rhythm. Bam Bam sat up, pulling your chest into his face, his lips sucking on your erect nipples, trying to entice out as many moans as he could get.
"S-so good, Mommy. Keep going please,” he begged, as you pulled his chin up and collided your lips with his, a hard grind down onto him causing a moan that allowed your tongue to slip past his lips.
“I’m so close,” Bam Bam gripped you tight, trying to hold in his orgasm as best as he could. You leaned back, bucking your hips against his, trying to milk him dry. He started screaming and moaning, his legs locked in place. You rode him through his climax, your heart pounding in your chest.
Bam Bam flipped positions and you were now beneath him.
“You didn’t cum, Mommy.” He pouted.
“It’s okay baby. Mommy wanted to make you feel good,” you brushed his hair out of his eyes and leaned up to place a chaste kiss to his lips.
“I need to make Mommy feel good too,” he pouted before spreading you legs wide and licking along your slit, enticing a moan from your lips. He pulled you forward, pushing your heat into his face.
“Oh fuck baby!” you moaned as he held your legs open wide for him. He glides his tongue against your dripping core.
“We taste so good mixed together.” He groans out as he moves his tongue around, making sure not to leave any spot untouched.
“Oh fuck baby boy, that’s so good…”  Your hands gripped his hair, pulling him closer, wanting more friction from him. Bam Bam circles his tongue on your clit as he nuzzles you with his nose. His plump lips suck on your clit and you begin to lose control.
“Do you like it, Mommy?” He grumbles into your pussy, the vibrations from his voice pulsing a wave of pleasure through you. He flat tongues your pussy as he grabs at your hips, enticing you to grind on him as he begins to tongue fuck you.
“Oh fuck baby, I love it, keep going, please,” You beg, whining endlessly as he uses his tongue to pleasure you in ways you didn’t know any man could. He pulls pack a moment for air and you can see your slick coating his mouth, you can’t help but pull him in for a heated kiss. You wanted to taste yourself on his lips.
Bam Bam pulls away and grins mischievously before diving back into your dripping core.
“Oh fuck!” you screamed as he grazed your clit with his teeth before going back to sucking on your sensitive nub.
“Fuck, baby boy,” you moan as he goes back to tongue fucking you, making sure that you still get enough friction on your clit to wind you up. Your hands grabbed Bam’s hair tightly as you pull him closer to you and rock your hips against his relentless tongue. He felt your legs start to twitch and fight him and he picked up the pace. You felt the familiar knot form in the pit of your stomach, growing with each movement of his tongue. Bam Bam began to hum deeply in his throat as he kept going, holding you still so he could give you your long-awaited release.
Your orgasm hit you hard. You were shaking and the strength Bam Bam’s arms were no match for the strength of your thighs. Your legs clamped in on either side of his head and you rode out your powerful orgasm, Bam Bam still using his tongue to make sure he could milk everything out of you.
When your legs relaxed, Bam Bam sat up and licked all of your juices off of his face. “Mommy tastes sooo good,” He said, satisfied with his work.
“Mommy is so proud of you, baby.” You say as you try to catch your breath. You look down and see that Bam Bam is hard again. “Does my baby need more of Mommy’s help?” Bam Bam blushes as he nods his head. “Get on your back sweetie,” you knew you were too sore to ride him again, but a blow job wasn’t out of the question. “Mommy wants to reward her baby boy.”
You lean down and take his length into your mouth, hollowing out your cheeks and bobbing your head up and down quickly, your hand finding his balls and massaging them at the same time.
“Mommy!” He screamed out, “Slow down please!” You could already feel him twitching, close to release. “Can you just use your hands?” he asked, breathless, clearly fighting his orgasm to prolong your heated session.
You pull off of him with a pop and adjust yourself so you can make out with him and rub him at the same time. You use your spit mixed with his pre cum as lube and grip his  cock firmly, stroking and twisting up and down slowly, trying to relax Bam. You take his bottom lip in between your teeth and gently pull, teasing him, pulling a breathy moan from deep in his chest.
“How’s that baby? Is this what you want Mommy to do?” you ask quietly against his lips. All he could do was nod, he was lost in pleasure. “tell Mommy when you want to cum.” You whispered as you roughly kissed him, using the last of your energy to please the man in front of you. After leaving a few love bites along his jawline, you could feel him starting to throb again under your touch.
“Mommy, please… I’ve been a good boy” He moans out as you begin to quicken your pace. He whines and pleads, and it only makes you want to please him more. “I’m getting close, Mommy,” he moaned out as you sucked another mark into his skin, “Please, don’t stop.” Bam Bam thrusted upwards in sync with your strokes. “It hurts, Mommy.” He was grimacing and you could tell he was ready to explode.
“I’ve got you baby boy,” you tightened your grip on his throbbing member and picked up the pace again. You kissed the tears streaming down his face away. You kiss him one more time before letting go of his cock and re-positioning yourself between his legs.
You made sure to give him the same treatment he gave you and you helped him ride out his orgasm. He was shaking with stimulation when you were done.
“I need to cum, please Mommy!” he begged, desperation burning in his eyes as you looked up at him.
“It’s Mommy’s turn to have a taste.” You said as you licked his slit. His eyes rolled back you could tell it wouldn’t take much to tip him over the edge. You positioned your hands on his thighs and swiftly took him into your mouth again and sucked hard. It only took a few bobs of your head to have him screaming out and releasing threads of his seed into your mouth.
You crawled back up the bed and took him into your arms.
“Mommy?” Bam Bam said softly as he nuzzled into your warmth.
“Yes, Baby?” You kissed the top of his head and looked down at the man who just bared his soul to you.
“Your soup and tea are probably cold.” He pouted and looked up at you.
“It’s okay, baby, it’s the thought that counts.”
“What time is it?” he asked sleepily as he yawned and tried everything to get even closer to you.
“Late,” you answered, not wanting to worry him with what time it was, “you can just sleep here tonight.” You ran your fingers up and down his arm.
“Okay,” you could feel him drifting off into dreamland. “Don’t forget that we have to meet with Yugyeom at 8am.”
Yet another meeting you forgot about. This whole week has you thrown off your normal game. You looked down at the boy sleeping in your arms and knew that he was the embodiment of pure light. You knew the next 3 days would be hard, but if it meant saving his life, it was all worth it.

You asked for it!!! Prompt number 5 and Tentoo/Rose 😂💖
Alright so this somehow got out of hand, just a little.
[Send me a prompt and a Doctor (9-11) x Rose pairing!]
Aerial View Necessary Rated: T Pairing: Tentoo x Rose Wordcount: 3,360
Read it on AO3
It had taken quite a few months for them to get here, months in which she thought she was going to go absolutely insane, but they finally did it. She and the Doctor had a house of their own. With doors, and carpets, and all of the other domestic things a house on Earth came with.
Oddly enough, it was the Doctor who had first suggested it.
They had only been staying at the mansion for five days - not even a full week. Just five days since saving the multiverse, since Bad Wolf Bay (again), since he had been essentially created. Things had been … awkward. After so long apart they had to get used to each other again, but that was compounded by all of the changes that came with his metacrisis - some of which delighted him, while others had him throwing fits.
So when he had stormed into her room on their fifth day together on parallel Earth, Rose had assumed that he was having another tantrum, like the one the evening before when he found out that he could no longer eat an entire tin of biscuits without getting a stomach ache (she had been equal parts annoyed with and sad for him). She was barely awake, had just managed to pull herself up onto her elbows when he collapsed on the bed next to her.
“Let’s get out of here. Our own place. What do you say?” He looked quite manic for 8 in the morning.
“What?” she had asked, still groggy but quickly waking. “Where’d this come from?”
“I, Rose Tyler, absolutely refuse to live with your mother.”
For all of the new little quirks and biological changes, he really wasn’t all that different. Once she’d gotten ready for the day, cuppa in hand, Rose had taken a seat at the kitchen island, laptop already out from the day before, and started looking up flats online. It wasn’t long before the Doctor was there, looking over her shoulder and somehow managing to get jam in her hair.
“No, no, no,” he started, “not a flat. Too small. Too many other humans right on top of us. Or below us. Or to the side. You know what, never mind, forget that bit. We need a house.”
“Really? You? A house?”
Years may have passed, but his horror at the prospect of a mortgage while orbiting a black hole wasn’t the kind of thing she was ever going to forget.
“Yup. Not like this one, but a good size. The TARDIS will need her own room. Oh! And I think I would fancy a garden. Not just a small one, but a proper yard. We could have a pool! Do those come with houses, or do you have to get them separately?” the Doctor babbled, leaning over her in order to begin making his own searches, fingers typing on the keyboard at a ridiculous speed that the machine was having difficulty keeping up with.
Then her mum came in.
“What are you two up to now?” she’d asked.
Before Rose could think of a way to ease her mother into this new development, the Doctor had taken the matter completely out of her hands.
“Getting a house. What do they mean ‘request a viewing’? Aren’t I viewing it now? They’ve got 23 pictures.”
It had all gone downhill from there. Her mum had had plenty of opinions, and went from enthusiastically trying to do the house hunting for them to harsh disapproval of the whole thing seemingly from moment to moment throughout the entire process. And the Doctor’s combination of unending enthusiasm and complete ignorance made it all … well, it was never boring, that’s for sure.
Also, he turned out to be very picky, which shouldn’t have surprised her.
Their realtor hated them.
But now it was over, and here they were in their own house. Their own home.
It was two stories, with four bedrooms (“One for us, one for the TARDIS, one to use for, you know … whatever. Office? Workshop? And then an extra, just in case, you know … because what if we need it?”) and three bathrooms. The sitting room was cozy, and the kitchen was spacious, and there wasn’t a separate dining area (“What do we need a dining room for? When have we ever had people over for dinner?”). They had a finished basement (which the Doctor had more ideas for than it had space, but Rose figured he would have to figure that out for himself) and an attached garage, as well as a shed out back (“It will be perfect, you know, for projects that are too big for the house … well, not too big, the shed is quite small, but you know, too, er, combustible.”). It also had a pool, but not a hot tub - she had had to convince him that they could easily buy one when he almost told the realtor no (again). And their garden was huge.
Rose didn’t know what to even do with it, she’d never had a garden before. Well, the last few years at the mansion she did technically have one - but that was different. It was her parents garden (well, grounds would be more accurate) and it was tended to by gardeners. In the excitement of moving in, she let the issue of lawncare slip her mind.
Neither her nor the Doctor had many things - despite years living in a parallel world, Rose had been so focused on her work with the Dimension Canon, and so sure she would be returning to her proper universe that she had never really put down roots. So they had to buy absolutely everything for the house, which was daunting. Thankfully one of the new quirks he had gotten from Donna was a love for shopping. Unfortunately, he did not get any common sense about what a house needed, and it became clear that this was an activity he was never allowed to do alone (in the end, Rose had had to send back 4 (out of 6) couches, 17 (out of 21) toasters, 3 (out of 5) mixers, various other kitchen gadgets (total number unknown, but now they at least had enough cupboard space for actual food), and a host of giant inflatable Christmas decorations that ‘had been on sale’).
It wasn’t until they had been at their new house for about two months that the issue of their garden came up again. And only because they had received a written warning in the post about their grass being too long.
“Who are they to decide? Isn’t it our garden?” the Doctor complained. “I like our grass! It’s very … grassy. And green! Well, mostly.”
They were standing outside on their front porch, looking at their grassy, mostly green grass. It was pretty tall. And starting to go to seed, reminding Rose of the wheat-like plants on Serin III - those were green, too. They had green bread.
“You’re gonna have to mow it,” she told him, patting his arm apologetically.
“Me? Why me?”
“Because you’re the one who wanted a big garden.”
“Maybe I also want a big fence. So that nosy city people who get paid to judge my grass can’t see it. That will show them. Or, or, we can get rid of all the grass! Put flowers and trees and things instead. Then see what these people have to say.”
“Or you could mow the grass,” Rose said, before giving him a kiss on the cheek and heading back inside. They had to be in at Torchwood soon and she still wasn’t done getting ready.
The rest of the week passed by in a blur of alien ‘incidents’, way too much paperwork, and the Doctor’s unending attempts to get out of either of them doing work the moment he got bored of it. Once the weekend arrived, she was exhausted and he was adorably and delightfully insistent on making her forget about any and all stress or responsibilities.
Monday morning saw another letter regarding their grass. This time with a deadline, and a fine promised if they didn’t have it taken care of by the end of the week.
“We don’t even have a mower!” the Doctor complained, crumpling up the piece of paper and throwing it across the sitting room.
“We’ll just have to get one. We can go after work. I’ll tell dad that we need to leave early.”
“Mmm I suppose, if it gets us out early,” he conceded, still pouting.
So they left work early and went to the hardware store, where the Doctor made no less than three scenes while complaining about the primitive technology, comparing gardening tools from different times and planets, and attempting to test drive a riding mower in the store (the lack of petrol in the floor model having easily been circumvented with a few applications of his sonic screwdriver). Obviously they ended up buying the one that he tampered with. And of course they were asked never to return.
“It said on the sign that you offer free delivery?” were the Doctor’s parting words before Rose dragged him away from the counter, telling the quietly furious manager that she would send someone to pick it up for them.
“Well that was rude of them,” he began as soon as they got into the car, “I was only trying to-”
“Nope. No. You should know better by now. We’ve been through this. Just … quiet,” Rose sighed. She wasn’t angry, but she didn’t know what exactly she was feeling - some mix of frustration, disappointment, and exhaustion. Despite the fact that he now only had one heart, she never forgot that he was an alien. Usually she loved all of his alien-ness.
Just not so much when it clashed with their attempt at living a very human life. But they wouldn’t be stuck planet-bound forever. In a few years their TARDIS would be ready for flight, and then they would once again have all of time and space at their disposal. A whole new universe to explore.
Rose just didn’t know how they were both going to manage to stay sane until they got that far.
Surprisingly, he followed her instructions and the ride home passed in complete silence. It wasn’t until she pulled into the garage that he spoke, and even then it was a whisper.
“I’m sorry.”
She turned to him, frowning, worried that she was being too hard on him. It really hadn’t been very long since he’d been stranded here with her. No functioning TARDIS, stuck on the slow path in a universe he didn’t belong in and a body that felt foreign to him.
“It’s okay.”
“No, no, it’s not. You were right. I do know better. It’s just- I just- it’s all so linear, all the time! And so stationery! If I’d ridden a mower through a shop before, it wouldn’t have mattered. We’d have ran off, back to the TARDIS, onto the next adventure. But now there’s consequences, and licenses, and passports, and credit cards, and rude letters about our grass! And I did know better, but I did it anyway because, because- what if we get boring, Rose? What if we become the kind of people who just go to work, and watch telly, and eat beans on toast, and trim our grass and that’s all?” he asked, both hands now fisted in his very disheveled hair and a look of pure panic on his face.
“Listen,” Rose said, leaning over the center console to place both of her hands lightly against the side of his head, thumbs rubbing his temples in a way she knew soothed him. “We are never going to be boring, whether or not you vandalize shops. Our job is defending the Earth from alien threats … and sometimes the other way around. And I’m sorry we went to get a mower to begin with. I don’t care. If you want our grass to get as tall as it can, I don’t care. We can just pay the fine. Okay?”
The Doctor’s hands had moved from his hair into hers and then he snogged her to within an inch of her life, stopping only when he kneed the console and hit his head on the roof of the car when he tried to get closer. The windows had all fogged up.
They were awoken the next day with a call from her mum - they had made the tabloids, again. Contrite, the Doctor made her a lovely breakfast but she didn’t have time to eat it after having to spend nearly an hour on the phone with Jackie screeching in her ear.
When lunch came around, Rose felt tired and irritable and hungry but instead of going to the canteen she marched into Pete’s office.
“I need some time off,” she announced, cutting off whatever her dad had been about to say in greeting. “Me and the Doctor both. A vacation. Right away. I’ve got plenty saved up.”
“Does this have something to do with the ‘mower incident’?” he asked, raising both eyebrows and sitting back down behind his desk.
“No. Yes? I don’t know! We just- we need a break.”
Despite the spontaneity of it all, Pete had lunch brought up and they were able to schedule three weeks of vacation time, starting the next day. When Rose went up to the Doctor’s lab to tell him, he was nowhere to be found. The floor’s lab manager said that he had disappeared over an hour ago, no one knew where. This wasn’t exactly new behavior, so she shrugged it off and went to finish up her day of writing up reports. He was waiting for her in the carpark at the end of the day, as usual, a huge grin lighting up his face the moment he saw her.
“Did Pete tell you the news?” she asked, a little disappointed that she hadn’t gotten to be the one to tell him.
“News? What news?” he asked, genuinely confused.
“Oh. You seemed so happy, I figured he musta told you.”
“No. No one told me anything. I’m always happy to see you. But what is this news?” he asked, somehow managing to still be nearly bouncing even as they got into the car.
“We’re on vacation. Starting now.”
“What?! Really?! Where are we going? What would you like to do?”
“Hmm … well, we’ve got three weeks. We can go wherever we want. Could be outta the country in a couple hours,” she informed him with a tongue touched grin.
“Rose Tyler, have I told you how absolutely brilliant you are?”
“Hmmm … ‘m not sure,” she teased.
“You are. Absolutely, astonishingly, brilliant. Are we off to the Zeppelin right now?” he asked, looking out the window as if this wasn’t the same route they took every day.
“No, we have to go home first to pack.”
“Ah. Right, wizard! And we can figure out where to first! Europe? Asia? The Americas? Zeppelin travel is so slow, maybe explore parallel Europe this time?”
During the drive home, the Doctor barely stopped for breath. It was the most excited she had seen him since they’d gotten to this universe. He was so happy, it almost made her heart hurt.
When they pulled into the driveway she immediately noticed that the grass had been trimmed … well, part of it, at least. A small bit.
“When’d you do this?” Rose asked, not bothering to pull into the garage.
“Oh! I took a long lunch. What do you think?” he asked, bounding into the garden and only walking in the mowed bits.
“Well, I mean, you missed some,” she laughed.
“No, no, come here.”
He took her hand and led her on a winding and loopy path that went in an arch from one side of their front yard, to their backyard, and then to the other side of the front.
“Well it’s definitely not a maze … does it say something?” she asked once they were back in the driveway.
“You’re right, it does! 10 points to Gryffindor! Perhaps an aerial view is necessary.” Still holding her hand, the Doctor headed inside, no doubt with a plan to get onto the roof.
“Oh, that reminds me, Doctor … this universe does still have Harry Potter, but …” she hesitated as they reached the stairs.
“But what?” he asked, turning toward her with wide eyes.
“The names of the houses are different.”
“What?!” he screeched. “Months! We’ve been here months, and you don’t tell me this until now?! What are they?! No! Don’t tell me. No spoilers. Ohhh I’m going to have to reread everything, aren’t I? Every book. Who knows how many things are different?” The Doctor dropped her hand in order to ruffle his hair, as the other one was still holding onto the rail.
“Did you still want to go to the roof?” she asked, hesitating only a little. He tended to have a flair for the dramatic, but sometimes he was genuinely upset. It was just, occasionally, a little hard to tell which was which.
“Right, yes, roof. Roof, then packing, then books, then vacation,” he listed, taking her hand again and almost running up the stairs. “We can spend a day at the beach somewhere. You love beaches. You can go swimming, and I can start rereading. Or is it just reading?”
Soon enough they managed to get onto the roof from the balcony that came off their bedroom (one of the Doctor’s ‘must haves’ in a house). Looking down, spelled out in the garden in messy cursive was, ‘I love you Rose’.
“Oh,” she breathed, covering her mouth with her hand and fighting the tears that were suddenly gathering in her eyes.
“What do you think?” he asked, after they had both been silent for too long.
“It’s perfect,” she whispered, pulling him into a kiss. They wobbled unsteadily for a moment before the Doctor slowly guided them both downward until they were sitting, less in danger of falling.
“I love you, too,” Rose told him, when they finally paused to breathe.
His answering smile was so bright, it put the sun to shame.
They eventually got off of the roof, but it was hours before they left the house. Once they finally boarded a Zeppelin, the Doctor was disappointed to realize they had forgotten to pick up books. And three weeks later, when they got back from Europe, there was a pile of mail right inside their front door - much of which were fines and late fees regarding their grassy, now not-so-green grass.
Rose paid them.
The Doctor built a perception filter.
Letters stopped coming, and it worked so well that not even Jackie ever said a word about how untended it was. The whole thing slipped Rose’s mind in the months that followed, until one evening at sunset the Doctor took her up onto the roof again.
Colors streaked across the sky, and the first couple of stars were beginning to peak out as the sun disappeared under the horizon.
“Those are still there because of you,” he whispered in her ear, nuzzling into her neck before placing a kiss on her cheek.
“Mmm … I did have a little bit of help,” she said, brushing a hand into the hair at the nape of his neck, satisfied when the Doctor sighed against her.
“Just a little?”
“Yeah,” Rose giggled, “from Mickey. Remember him?”
At the Doctors indignant squawk, she fully burst out laughing.
“I had a lot of help from you,” she told him, no longer teasing.
“Thought so,” he muttered, mollified. They were quiet for a few moments before he said, “And now here we are.”
“Yeah.”
“Rose?” he asked, sitting up. Her neck and shoulder were suddenly chilled with the absence of his body heat. When she looked over at him, he seemed nervous.
“What is it?”
“I- well- uhm …” the Doctor floundered for a moment before saying, “What do you think of the garden?”
Incredibly confused, Rose Tyler looked down and was surprised to once again find words trimmed into the grass.
‘Marry me?’

Critical Bakes - Nott/Veth Week
Tumblr media
When @criticalbakes released this week’s prompt, I immediately reviewed what alcohol we had in the house (and what other supplies. quarantine is a bitch when no one has open delivery spots), and we came up with this spread: whiskey bacon hamburger (with homemade bread bun cause that’s what a tiny tavern would have. not because we have no hamburger buns in the house), bread pudding with a brandy sauce (and the leftover raspberry curd from last week), and a moonshine drink (because someone must be making their own alcohol in these tiny towns and nott would probably love it).
Tumblr media
Yeah we apparently had a decent amount of alcohol in the house….
(and that’s not including the wine. maybe we’ll revisit that when beau week comes around)
Recipes, such as they are, under the cut. I did my best to give actual measurements because I never measure anything when I cook. Baking, especially finicky macarons, is different which is why last week had actual weights.
Whiskey Bacon Hamburger
Tumblr media
1 lb of ground beef
 Salt
Pepper
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Paprika
Cheddar cheese
4 strips of bacon cut in half
½ cup whiskey
1/8 cup brown sugar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Buns
I know, I promise ingredient amounts and then I don’t give amounts for any of the burger spices. But I really have no idea.
Anyway, make your favorite hamburger recipe. I use ground beef and the spices listed above. Use your hands to mix the spices in making sure to now compress the ground beef too much. It can make the burgers tougher if you do. Form into patties. Since this was the only day we were eating this, I made ½ pound patties.
For the whiskey cause, cut the bacon in half and cook in a heavy skillet over medium high heat. Once bacon is done, remove from the pan and set aside on paper towel to drain.
Add brown sugar to the pan and cook for approximately 3 minutes. If you have onions at home (and like them), you can add onion before the brown sugar and cook those down before adding the brown sugar.
Add the whiskey, Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Cook down for another 2-3 minutes until it forms a thick sauce for your burgers.
Cook your hamburgers however you like to whatever doneness you like. Since it is actually snowing here again, I cook might in a skillet over medium high heat on the stovetop until they were medium-well. 150 degrees on the inside.
(if you cook meat and you don’t have an instant read thermometer, i suggest it. it’s an easy way to know for certain that whatever you’re cooking is done and done how you like. no worries about undercooked meat. no overcooking things because you’re afraid it isn’t done. no cutting into it and trying to see if it is done. and they’re pretty cheap)
Assemble your burger and eat. We’ve got bacon, whiskey sauce, and cheese on our rustic bread.
(if anyone is curious about the bread recipe, let me know. it’s a no knead baguette recipe that you make and toss in the fridge and then pull out and shape as needed. dough lasts about a week in the fridge)
Note: I made the sauce with way too much brown sugar. It was a new recipe and I didn’t trust my instincts. That’s why it looks funny in the picture. I changed the amount for this recipe.
Bread Pudding with a Brandy Sauce
Tumblr media
Loaf of challah or other soft bread, cut into 1 inch-ish cubes and left to dry over the course of a few hours or two days….
8 eggs
4 cups milk
½ cup butter
½ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp ground cloves
¼ tsp all spice
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup butter
2 tablespoons cream (or milk if you still have no cream)
¼ cup brandy (or more if you want more alcohol)
Heat the milk and ¼ cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat until the butter is melted.
In another bowl mix the eggs, ½ cup brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, vanilla, and cloves (and raspberry curd if you happen to have some) until well combined. Add the hot milk mixture slowly mixing the whole time in order to not cook the eggs.
In a casserole dish, dump in the bread and spread into an even layer. Pour the milk and egg mixture over it. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake at 375 for 45 minutes or until a knife stabbed into the dish comes away mostly clean.
Remove from oven and set aside.
In a heavy saucepan, heat the 1 cup brown sugar, ½ cup butter, cream, and brandy until everything is dissolved and combined evenly.
Pour over the warm bread pudding.
Eat! (clearly the most important step)
Moonshine Cocktail
Tumblr media
2 shots blackberry moonshine
1 ½ cups-ish chokecherrry tea (cold)
Pour together.
Mix.
Drink!
Tumblr media
btw this is chokecherry tea. its apparently a north dakota thing. i think. i don’t know. my friend there sends it to me.
feel free to message me if you have questions. although i am out of quarantine and back on the road in a few days, so it might take me a bit to respond.

Two years earlier
Belle took a deep breath as she left Gold’s house, turning her face up to feel the early morning warmth of the June sun and feeling blissfully happy.  He had offered to drive her into town, but the weather was so lovely she had insisted on walking.  Besides, sun-kissed mornings meant that people tended to be out and about, and she didn’t want to risk being seen in his car with her overnight bag and the sleepy expression of someone who had spent the night wrapped up in another’s arms.  However true it might have been.
Before she left they had made plans to spend another night at the cabin the following week, and Belle could feel a fluttering of excitement and desire in her belly at the thought of it.  Gold’s cabin was a peaceful little retreat, nestled in amongst thick stands of pine by a lake teeming with life, and their evenings there had been amongst the most enjoyable she had spent in his company.  They would drink wine and eat good crusty bread and strong cheese and delicate little chocolate confections from Storybrooke’s patisserie as they were curled on the rug.  They would discuss books and music and travel and politics, and afterwards he would peel off her clothes and spend time bringing her to orgasm over and over before finally taking her.
She had realised a few weeks earlier that she was hopelessly in love with him, but she hadn’t told him so.  For one, he was adept at deflecting the conversation when it turned to something too personal, and for another, they hadn’t discussed what form their relationship took.  He had not asked her for any sort of commitment, or even admitted that they were dating, and given that she had been keeping their relationship secret for reasons of her own, she could hardly object to that.
She tried not to think about what the future held; she had been steadily saving to return to college, and her plan had initially been to start her studies in September.  Recently, though, she had been toying with the idea of taking another year out.  If she was able to scrape by on what she had saved thus far, perhaps it would be better for her to take another year so that she could live relatively comfortably.  And if that meant another year of seeing Gold, another year in which she might have the time to get closer to him, to have him finally let her in… well, that would be a bonus.
She hadn’t mentioned any of this to her father, but she suspected he wouldn’t object to her staying.  For one, he liked having her around, even if the main reasons were to clean up after him and cook him a meal that didn’t come out of a can every night.  He liked having her work in the shop, too, because it meant that he could sleep late when he needed to, and she kept the books and ordered stock more efficiently than he did.  She couldn’t stay forever, of course; she wanted to pursue her dream of becoming a librarian, and there was no chance of that happening in Storybrooke.  However much she was tempted by the idea of spending more time with Gold.  She wondered if he would miss her, when she went.  If he would visit her in Boston.  If he would ask her to come back.  If he would ever tell her how he really felt.  The thought of never seeing him again was too painful to contemplate, so she shoved the thoughts aside whenever they tried to intrude on her current happiness.
She turned up the path of her father’s house, overnight bag swinging from her arm.  At seven-thirty it was unlikely that Moe would be awake, and she had time to take a shower and make breakfast before heading to the shop.  It was a surprise, therefore, when she entered the kitchen and found him already standing by the fridge with a mug of coffee in his hand.
“Hey,” she said brightly.  “You’re up early.”
He eyed her for a moment, then nodded.
“Yeah, didn’t sleep all that well,” he said.  “What about you?”
“Not bad,” she said, going to fill the kettle.  “You want me to open up this morning?  I’m gonna take a shower first, but I can head over after that.”
“If you like.”
There was silence for a moment, and she flicked on the kettle and put some bread in the toaster.  She could feel his eyes on her, and it was making her nervous.
“You have a good time last night?” he asked quietly, and her hands stilled on the counter.
“Yeah, it was fun,” she said casually.  “How was the game?”
“Not great,” he said.  “Where did you say you were, again?”
The first tingling of nerves made her heart thump, and she licked her lips, getting out a plate and knife and the peanut butter.
“Oh, Mary Margaret’s,” she said, pleased that her voice didn’t tremble.
“And what did you do?”
She shrugged.
“Just - hung out,” she said, not looking at him.
“Hung out,” he said evenly.  “At Mary Margaret’s place.”
She was silent, feeling the tension in the air around them, her heart sinking.
“So,” he said.  “Are you telling me you weren’t at the other end of town?  At Gold’s place, for example?”
Belle chewed her lip, shooting a glance at the toaster.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Just how stupid do you think I am?” he demanded.  “I’ve seen the way he looks at you.  Is that why you offered to take his bloody flower delivery over every Friday?  He order something extra?  Some personal service I didn’t realise we were offering?”
Belle turned on her toes, folding her arms and raising her chin.
“My private life is none of your business.”
“It is when you’re under my roof!” he snapped, shaking a finger at her.  “I first thought something might be up a few weeks ago.  All these sleepovers you suddenly started having with your friends every week!”
“I was having sleepovers!” she said defensively.  “Ask any of them!”
“So, if I ask that sweet little Mary Margaret what you two did last night, she’ll know what I’m talking about, will she?” he asked.  “I know for a fact she won’t, because I bloody well followed you!”
Belle’s eyes widened in outrage.
“You did what?”
“I followed you!” he repeated.  “I watched you leave, and I waited, and I followed you.  And I know exactly where it was you spent the night, my girl!”
Belle hesitated, licking her lips, her heart thumping.
“I - I don’t—”
“Don’t lie to me!” snapped Moe, his eyes flashing.  “You were with Gold!  Of all the men in this town, you chose to go to him?  What the hell is wrong with you?”
“We’re not talking about this,” she said curtly, and he nodded as though her words confirmed his fears.
“I thought as much,” he said disgustedly.  “Has that bastard been blackmailing you or something?  Holding the shop’s future over you to get what he wants?”
“It’s not like that!” she protested.  “We - we really like each other!”
“Bullshit!” he shouted.  “You think I don’t know how men like that work?  If you think he cares a single flying fuck for you, you’re a lot stupider than I thought!”
Belle bristled, fists clenching.
“You have no idea what he’s like!” she snapped.  “You’re just - just - blinded by your own hatred!”
Moe laughed nastily.
“Oh, if you think you know him, you’re in for a shock, let me tell you!” he sneered.  “He might be happy to string you along for now, but if you think there’s any future in it, you’re an idiot!  I fall behind on the rent, and he’ll evict the both of us faster than you can blink!”
“You don’t know him!” she snapped.  “And apparently you don’t know me!  And I don’t see that any of this is your business!”
She could smell the toast burning, and she turned to take it out, dropping it onto her plate and blowing on her fingertips.  Internally she was seething, but Moe was silent as she spread peanut butter on the toast.  She heard him sigh.
“Look, love, I just worry about you,” he said, more calmly.  “You deserve better than the likes of him.”
“Well, maybe I’m old enough to decide for myself who I date,” she said, her voice stiff.
“Is that what you’re doing?” he asked.  “Dating?  Because it seems to me you’ve been sneaking around.  Lying to me about where you’re going, about who you’re with.  Do your friends even know?”
Belle was silent, but she could feel satisfaction coming off him in waves.
“I thought not,” he said.  “You think about why that might be.”
He stomped off, and she licked a blob of peanut butter from her thumb, her appetite gone.
Belle was half-expecting her father to march over to Gold’s shop and yell at him, but she recalled that Moe, like everyone else in Storybrooke, was afraid of him.  Her next thought was that he would try to persuade her to break things off instead, so it was a surprise when he didn’t mention their relationship for a few days.  He curled his lip when she gave him Gold’s latest order for flowers, but said nothing, and she hoped that he had realised that she was an adult and could decide her own future.  Looking back, she supposed that she ought to have known this was wishful thinking.
It was late on Friday morning when he came into the shop, having left her to open up, and he looked oddly cheerful.
“You got a call at home,” he said.  “That boy you were seeing.  The entrepreneur’s son?”
“Gaston?” she said surprised, and Moe beamed.
“See, I told him you’d remember him,” he said jovially.  “I know we only met that one time, but he hadn’t forgotten that I run the flower shop.  Very polite he was, too.  Called me ‘sir’.”
Belle’s heart sank.
“How did he find me?” she asked.  “I changed my number since he left, and I never gave him the number for our house.”
“Yeah, he said you’d lost touch,” said Moe.  “I don’t know - maybe he got the number from your old roommate or something.  Must be keen, hmm?”
“I don’t know why,” she sighed.  “We only dated for a few months, and I wouldn’t say we were suited.  At all, actually.  He left college and started work, and I assumed that was it.”
“Yeah, he said he’d been working abroad,” said Moe.  “Building orphanages in Malawi or something.  Sounds like a fine, upstanding young man!”
“Really?” said Belle dryly.  “I thought he was going to work at one of his father’s firms in Dubai.  I can’t imagine him wanting to get his hands dirty, somehow.”
“So - he’s rich, then?”  Moe’s eyes brightened, and she wanted to sigh.  “I’d forgotten that.”
“Had you?” she said flatly, walking through to the back room.  Moe followed her, sneakers shuffling on the freshly-swept floor.
“Are you gonna call him back?”
“Why would I do that?” she asked irritably.  “We’re not together, we have nothing in common, and I have no interest in going out with him again.”
“I just thought maybe it would do you good!” he protested.  “Stuck in this town, you don’t get to see much.  Might be good to start thinking about getting back to Boston.  You know - getting out.  Meeting new people.”
“I can worry about that when I go back, can’t I?” she said dryly.  “Stop trying to organise my social calendar, we both know this isn’t about who’s in Boston.  It’s about who’s in Storybrooke.”
Moe grunted, but said nothing, and she looked over one of the orders, picking up the bucket of lilies to make a start on the arrangement.  Her father was watching her, shifting his feet, and she waited for him to say whatever was on his mind.
“It’s funny that Gaston called today,” he said eventually, “because I was thinking that we really ought to head to Boston to look for somewhere for you to stay.”
Belle hesitated
“I’ve - I’ve been thinking about that,” she said, a little awkwardly.  “I thought maybe I might go back next year, instead.”
“Next year?” said Moe, frowning.  “Since when?”
“Since I realised I’d only be able to survive on cereal and ramen based on what I have saved,” she said.  “Besides, it would be a help to you, wouldn’t it?”
“Is that the only reason?”
“It’s an excellent reason,” she said.  “Come on, you have to admit it makes sense.”
“Right,” he said sarcastically.  “And this has nothing to do with Gold, I suppose?”
“I’m just saying that I’m thinking about it!” she protested.  “I’m not saying that’s what I’ve decided to do!”
“Well, you can stop thinking about it right bloody now!” he barked.  “You’ll go back to college and you’ll bloody well call that boy of yours!”
“He’s not my boy!” she snapped, putting fists on hips.
“So you’re telling me that a polite, rich, good-looking boy your own age shows an interest, and you’d rather sneak around with a lame guy twice your age?”
“His age and wealth and - and his bloody looks have nothing to do with it!” she said, outraged.  “How can you be so - so clueless about the type of person that might actually make me happy?  Gaston is not that person!”
“He’d be a damn sight better for you than that scheming old bastard!” he snapped.
“Dad, no!” she said firmly.  “Who I date is none of your business!  I’m more than capable of making my own decisions.”
“Belle…”
“Just stop it!” she snapped.  “It’s my life!  When are you gonna get that through your head?”
The shop bell rang, and she stomped through before he could answer, irritation making her clench her fists.
Gold wondered what it was about the summer months that made his tenants less likely to pay their rent on time.  Whether they took more days off work to enjoy the sunshine, or they were under the mistaken impression that the good weather would put him in a better mood, he wasn’t sure.  They were right about the latter, to an extent; his leg was less painful when the weather was warm, but any relief he might have taken from that fact was counteracted by the wheedling tone that some of them chose to employ when seeking an extension.  He wasn’t completely heartless, despite rumours to the contrary; he had agreed to a two week extension for Mrs Lucas when she had fallen and injured herself and had to hire temporary staff to pick up the shifts she usually worked.  Most of the townsfolk who came to him, however, were met with stony looks and flat refusals.  It didn’t stop them trying their luck, of course.
He ran a finger down the column of figures in his rent ledger, double-checking the payments that had come in.  Moe French’s rent was due, and the man always left things to the last minute, but other than that he only had two other payments that had not yet been received.  He decided to wait to collect them; he wanted to get out to the cabin, clean the place up a little and restock the cupboards before he and Belle spent their next night there.
They had been seeing one another for around ten months, which was the longest he had tolerated the company of another in decades.  Belle was everything he was not: outgoing, sweet and affectionate, with a positive outlook on life that made him want to smile even while the pessimist in him dismissed it as unrealistic.  She was beautiful, highly intelligent, and a very pleasant person to be around, all of which had made him wary of getting too close to her.  Opening up wasn’t something he did, so he had been careful not to reveal too much about himself in the moments when they were intimate, when they were wrapped up together in bed and she wanted to talk.  To his surprise, he had found himself wanting to talk to her, to grow closer, to tell her something of himself.  It was an unfamiliar sensation, and a little uncomfortable, and so he sought to shut it down as soon as he recognised it. Gentle questions about his past had been brushed aside with quips or pure distractions, and after a while she had stopped asking.  It was probably better that way.  He suspected she would leave town in a month or so, leave and not return.  What was there to keep her in Storybrooke, after all?
The day was warm, sunshine streaming in through the window, dust motes dancing in the air like gold flecks, and he considered closing up early.  Perhaps he could sit on the back porch with a glass of cold white wine and breathe in the scents of summer from his garden.  Perhaps Belle would join him, curled by his side with her warmth seeping into him, her head on his shoulder and the scent of her perfume in his nose.  The sound of the bell above the shop door jerked him out of his brief daydream, and he leaned on the counter with a tiny smirk twisting his lips as Moe French blundered in and marched up to him.
“Mr French,” he said pleasantly.  “Delivering your rent payment before noon?  This has to be something of a record.”
“I’m not here about the bloody rent!” snapped Moe, and Gold raised an eyebrow.
“Really?” he said.  “Because I assure you that’s the only topic of conversation I’m interested in.  I suggest you rethink the reason for this little visit.”
He closed up the ledger and turned away, heading for one of the glass display counters and using two fingers to spin an ancient globe.  He could feel the fury coming off Moe in waves, and he thought that he could guess the most likely cause.  He hoped Belle was alright; judging by her father’s furious expression, there had been unpleasantness.
“I know what you’ve been doing,” blurted Moe, and Gold turned slowly on the balls of his feet.
“Excuse me?”
“I know what you’ve been doing,” repeated Moe, his face turning red.  “With my daughter.”
“Ah.”  Gold sent him a twisted little grin, hands curling around the handle of his cane.  “Are you here to demand satisfaction, perhaps?  Should I recruit a second?”
“She’s an adult,” said Moe stiffly.  “I got no right to tell her who she can sleep with.”
“That’s right, you don’t.”
“Which is why I’ve come to you,” he went on.  “Let her go.  Please, Gold.”
“Let her go?”  Gold broke into soft laughter.  “I’m not her keeper.  She’s free to do whatever she wants.”
“How can she know what she wants when you’re there to whisper in her ear like a bloody evil spirit?”
“Are you saying your daughter doesn’t know her own mind?” asked Gold.  “I assure you she does.  Perhaps if you talked to her once in a while you’d know that.  She’s not a child.”
“She’s twenty-two!” snapped Moe.  “She knows nothing of the world!”
“Oh, I wouldn’t say that,” said Gold lazily.  “I’m happy to say that I’ve taught her quite a lot in - certain areas.  Very quick study.  You should be proud.”
He showed his teeth in a grin, and Moe’s gaze darkened, his face reddening.  He stepped forwards, shoulders hunched and fists clenched, and Gold shook his head with a low, tutting sound.
“Be careful, Mr French,” he said.  “The sheriff won’t look kindly on you attempting to deal out judgement, and I’ll be forced to defend myself.  I’m sure Belle wouldn’t want to have to visit you in jail.  Or in hospital.”
“You stay away from her!”
“Or what?” said Gold mockingly.  “I hate to break it to you, but this is the twenty-first century.  She’s no more your property than she is mine.”
“You’re disgusting!” snapped Moe, and Gold shrugged.
“You opinion is neither required nor valued,” he said.  “Now, if all you have to throw at me are insults, I think we’re done here.”
Moe quivered with rage, his face turning purple, and Gold wondered idly if he’d have to call for an ambulance when the idiot burst something.
“Go home, Mr French,” he said, in a bored voice.  “Go home and start counting your money.  Rent is due, remember?  I think that would be a better use of your time than trying to interfere in my private business.”
“It’s my business too!” snapped Moe.  “She’s my daughter!”
“So?” said Gold, unimpressed.  “You don’t strike me as the kind to pay too much attention to what their child does.  You’ve had her doing most of the work at the shop while you sleep off those hangovers, after all.”
“I’m not exactly Father of the Year, I think that’s pretty fucking obvious,” said Moe gruffly.  “But believe it or not, I still want what’s best for her.”
“And I suppose you know what that is, hmm?”
“Yeah, I do!” snapped Moe.  “It’s to get away from here and make something of her life.  Study.  Travel.  Get a career that doesn’t involve working in a damn shop for minimum wage while her old man drinks the bloody profits!”
“Self-awareness from Moe French,” remarked Gold.  “Whoever would have thought it?”
“That’s fucking rich, coming from you.”
“Which means what, exactly?” said Gold, his tone mocking, and Moe squared his shoulders.
“It means that I don’t want her giving her bloody heart and soul to a man who has neither.”
Gold’s smile grew.
“Well, well,” he said quietly.  “That almost hurt my feelings.”
“Doubt you have any of those, either,” said Moe, and lifted a hand and let it slap against his thigh, looking frustrated.  “Look, Gold, I wouldn’t come over here and grovel at your feet if I wasn’t bloody desperate, okay?”
“Well, it’s not as though I haven’t seen this pathetic display from you before, I suppose,” said Gold, his voice cool.  “How successful were you in the past, do you recall?”
“Dammit, stop speaking to me as though we’re talking about my bloody rent arrears!” snapped Moe.  “This isn’t about you or me, it’s about Belle!”
Gold raised his eyes to the ceiling with a long-suffering sigh.
“Fine,” he said quietly.  “Say your piece.”
“She’s a good girl,” said Moe, his eyes pleading.  “Sweet, brave, kind.  She’s worth ten of me—”
“Well, that wouldn’t be difficult.”
“—and she’s worth twenty of you!” he went on sharply.  “She’s got her whole life ahead of her, and she shouldn’t be stuck in this dead-end town any longer than she has to be!  And now she’s saying that she’s gonna stay another year!”
The bundle of emotions that Gold kept locked up tight quivered with joy, and he smothered them, suffocated them, until they were still and silent.  Moe appeared to be watching for some sort of reaction from him, but he kept his expression neutral carefully neutral.
“Belle is an adult, and capable of making her own choices,” he said.  “I presume she has her reasons for staying.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean she should,” said Moe.  “You and I both know there’s nothing worth staying for, but for reasons I don’t bloody understand, she seems to love you.  Do you love her?”
Gold eyed him silently, hands tightening over the cane, and Moe nodded, curling his lip.
“As I thought,” he said disgustedly.  “Just let her go.  Please.”
“Like I said,” Gold repeated.  “She’s free to do whatever she wants.  If she chooses to come to me - well, I don’t see how that’s my fault.”
“She has a boyfriend.”
“Strange,” said Gold, feeling a sliver of ice slide down his back, and smiling coldly to cover it.  “She’s never mentioned him to me.  Nor have I ever seen her with anyone.  Clearly a deeply serious relationship.”
“And I suppose that’s what she has with you?” asked Moe bluntly.  “The pair of you have been sneaking around behind the backs of the entire town!  You do know she hasn’t told a single one of her friends about you, right?”
Gold tightened his jaw, the words needling him.
“No doubt she has her reasons.”
“Oh, she’s got her reasons alright,” said Moe, with a nasty laugh.  “I’m guessing that first on the list is shame!”
“Yes, you’ve made your utter disdain for me quite clear,” said Gold coolly.  “I don’t see there’s anything more to say.”
“I’m not finished!” snapped Moe.  “She seems to have been under the impression that she might have meant something to you, but we both know that’s bollocks.  Now she has the chance of starting again, with a good-looking guy her own age, a guy with money and a future, who loves her, who wants to make her happy.”
“I’m sorry that this no doubt admirable young provider of pointless conversation and mediocre sex wasn’t doing it for her,” said Gold.  “But I fail to see how this is my problem.”
“Because if you had the tiniest scrap of decency in you, you’d end it!” snapped Moe.  “If you cared about her - if you care about anyone but yourself, that is - you’d let her go!”
He cut off, breathing hard, his eyes almost popping with anger.  Gold was silent, hands gripping the cane handle so hard it hurt, that finger of ice down between his shoulder blades seeming to melt and spread, coating his body with coldness.
“Let’s say I agree with you,” he said eventually.  “What if I suggest that she and I end this little thing we have, and she doesn’t want to?  What then?”
Moe sent him a nasty smile.
“Well, you’re a resourceful man, Gold,” he said.  “I’m sure you’d think of something.”

Priciest Food Since 1970s Is a Big Challenge for Governments (Bloomberg) Whether for bread, rice or tortillas, governments across the world know that rising food costs can come with a political price. The dilemma is whether they can do enough to prevent having to pay it. Global food prices were up 33% in August from a year earlier with vegetable oil, grains and meat on the rise, data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization show. And it’s not likely to get better as extreme weather, soaring freight and fertilizer costs, shipping bottlenecks and labor shortages compound the problem. Dwindling foreign currency reserves are also hampering the ability of some nations to import food. From Europe to Turkey and India, politicians are now handing out more aid, ordering sellers to cut prices and tinkering with trade rules to mitigate the impact on consumers. The issue is more acute in emerging markets where the cost of food accounts for a greater chunk of household spending, and in crisis-hit nations.
Newsom Beat the Recall, Now Comes the Hard Part: Governing California (NYT) On Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom beat back an attempted recall—but still had multiple crises to confront. Ninety percent of the state was in extreme drought. The median home price had eclipsed $800,000. Some 100,000 people were sleeping outside or in their cars nightly. And more than 6 million public school children were struggling to make up the learning they had missed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Although Mr. Newsom has the advantage of a unified base, a Democratic supermajority in the Legislature and the state’s attention, he also has these long-term issues, and more.
The Greatest Killer in New Orleans Wasn’t the Hurricane. It Was the Heat. (NYT) In many ways, Iley Joseph’s one-bedroom apartment was an ideal place to ride out a hurricane. It was on the third floor—much too high to flood—of a building that was sturdy and new, part of a sleek, gated community for older residents like him. But in the days after Hurricane Ida, his home began to feel like a trap. The huge power failure that cut off electricity to New Orleans rendered Joseph’s air-conditioner useless and his refrigerator nothing more than a cupboard. Even worse, the outage froze the complex’s elevators in place, sealing him inside the building because his health problems prevented him from using the stairs. Joseph, 73, insisted in telephone conversations with his sons that he was doing just fine. But in his apartment, No. 312, it kept getting hotter. On Sept. 2, the fourth day after the storm hit—the hottest yet—a friend found him lying still on the side of his bed. Only in recent days, as the last lights flickered back on in New Orleans, have officials here discovered the true toll of Hurricane Ida. Of 14 deaths caused by the storm in the city, Joseph’s and nine others are believed to be tied to the heat.
Lumbering Nicholas (NYT) Since the storm named Nicholas made landfall in Texas on Tuesday, it hasn’t traveled very far. It first lingered over southeastern Texas, dumping rain along the coast and causing power outages in Houston. Since then, the storm has moved east over Louisiana, sometimes as slow as two miles an hour. Nicholas could cause flooding in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida today and tomorrow. This kind of storm—big and slow, bringing enormous amounts of rain—is an increasingly common part of life under climate change. Hot, dry places—like much of the American West—have become hotter and drier, while wet places—like the coast along the Gulf of Mexico—have become wetter.
SpaceX launches 4 amateurs on private Earth-circling trip (AP) SpaceX’s first private flight streaked into orbit Wednesday night with two contest winners, a health care worker and their rich sponsor, the most ambitious leap yet in space tourism. It was the first time a spacecraft circled Earth with an all-amateur crew and no professional astronauts. The Dragon capsule’s two men and two women are looking to spend three days going round and round the planet from an unusually high orbit—100 miles (160 kilometers) higher than the International Space Station—before splashing down off the Florida coast this weekend.
Mark Milley’s secret calls to China (Foreign Policy) Phone calls between U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and his Chinese counterpart, Li Zuocheng, from October 2020 through January have caused a political kerfuffle in Washington. According to Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s new book, Peril, Milley twice called Li to reassure him that the United States was stable and was not about to launch an attack on China, despite then-U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempts to cling to power. Numerous questions remain about how the calls took place and what exactly was said. Beyond Trump’s instability or Milley’s overreach, one leaps out: Why did Milley think the Chinese might overreact to the U.S. political drama so strongly, potentially even taking military action? U.S.-China relations are at a nadir, but the crisis doesn’t seem to have put fingers on buttons yet. If Milley thinks otherwise based on intelligence, that could be a worrying sign. It also could be the overreaction of one general. It’s even more unclear what Li or anyone else in Beijing has made of the whole affair. After all, if a Chinese general reached out to tell Washington everything was fine in Beijing and not to be concerned about coup rumors, U.S. intelligence would probably become concerned that a coup was happening.
Researcher acquitted after FBI case collapses (Foreign Policy) University of Tennessee professor Anming Hu has been acquitted of fraud charges after the FBI twice attempted to prosecute him, only to have its case dismantled by judges for flimsy evidence and false statements. The case against Hu should not have been brought even once; attempting it twice makes the Justice Department’s campaign against Chinese scientists accused of espionage appear vindictive and racist.
Biden’s travel ban on European visitors widens transatlantic rift (Washington Post) Last week, France became the latest European nation to issue travel restrictions on unvaccinated American visitors. The move prompted outraged responses from some, but many Europeans seemed to believe that the move was America’s just deserts. The issue for wary Europeans isn’t just the United States’ persistently high national coronavirus case numbers. It’s that most Europeans, vaccinated or not, have been banned from the United States since March 14, 2020: more than 550 days and counting. The U.S. ban—which affects most European visitors, but not American citizens, permanent residents and a limited number of visa holders flying from Europe—was imposed in the early days of the pandemic under President Donald Trump. Many Europeans believed President Biden would lift the ban soon after taking office. He didn’t. Later, some speculated he would do so after he visited Brussels or when he hosted German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington, around the time that Europe and Britain lifted most of their own blanket restrictions. Still, no policy change. Some Europeans see no hope on the horizon for a lifting of the ban. “At this point, it’s really just incomprehensible,” said Benjamin Haddad, director of the Europe Center at the Atlantic Council. With little sign of change, tensions are flaring.
Australia to get U.S. nuclear submarine technology as China looms large (Reuters) The United States, Britain and Australia said on Wednesday they would establish a security partnership for the Indo-Pacific that will involve helping Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines, as Chinese influence over the region grows. Under the partnership, announced by President Joe Biden, British Prime Minster Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the United States will provide Australia with the technology and capability to deploy nuclear-powered submarines, senior U.S. administration officials told reporters. Australia will not be fielding nuclear weapons, the prime minister said.
With foreign funds frozen, Afghan aid groups stuck in limbo (AP) A month after the fall of Kabul, the world is still wrestling with how to help Afghanistan’s impoverished people without propping up their Taliban leaders—a question that grows more urgent by the day. With the Afghan government severed from the international banking system, aid groups both inside Afghanistan and abroad say they are struggling to get emergency relief, basic services and funds to a population at risk of starvation, unemployment and the coronavirus after 20 years of war. Among the groups struggling to function is a public health nonprofit that paid salaries and purchased food and fuel for hospitals with contributions from the World Bank, the European Union and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The $600 million in funds, which were funneled through the Afghan Health Ministry, dried up overnight after the Taliban took over the capital. “All we do is wait and pray for cash to come,” one aid worker said. “We face disaster, if this continues.”
Hezbollah brings Iran fuel to Lebanon despite US sanctions (AP) Dozens of trucks carrying Iranian diesel arrived in Lebanon on Thursday, the first in a series of deliveries organized by the militant Hezbollah. The powerful group operates independently from Lebanese authorities, which are struggling to deal with a crippling energy crisis. The overland delivery through neighboring Syria violates U.S. sanctions imposed on Tehran after former President Donald Trump pulled America out of a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in 2018. The shipment is being portrayed as a victory by Hezbollah, which stepped in to supply the fuel from its patron, Iran, while the cash-strapped Lebanese government grapples with months-long fuel shortages that have paralyzed the country. There was no immediate comment from Lebanese or U.S. officials on the Iranian fuel delivery. Local commentators said Washington, worried about chaos in Lebanon amid raging, multiple crises, may have decided to look the other way.
One million Nigerian children to miss school due to mass kidnappings, UNICEF says (Reuters) At least one million Nigerian children could miss school this year as the new term begins amid a rise in mass school kidnappings and insecurity, the United Nations children’s agency UNICEF said on Wednesday. Schools have become targets for mass abductions for ransom in northern Nigeria by armed groups. Such kidnappings in Nigeria were first carried out by jihadist group Boko Haram then later its offshoot Islamic State West Africa Province, but the tactic has now been adopted by criminal gangs. So far, there has been 20 attacks on schools in Nigeria this year, with more than 1,400 children abducted and 16 dead, UNICEF said, adding that more than 200 children are still missing.
Instagram blues (WSJ) Around 22 million teens log on to Instagram in the United States each day. According to an internal study by Facebook of teens in the United States and United Kingdom, 40 percent of Instagram users reported that they felt unattractive, and the feeling began on the app. Roughly a quarter said they felt not good enough, and that the feeling first started on Instagram, and lots of teens also said that the app undermined their beliefs in their friendships.

Delivering to nurses/hospitals.
I have a vendetta against nurses. It's earned but I could be totally off the wall here. Simply put, when you work in delivery they are just among the worst. Two things can be true at the same time. Nurses are underpaid and underappreciated and have a really hard job. They are also some of the worst customers I deal with (I'm only talking about when I deliver to them at work.)
We get hospital orders a lot, they're both relatively close and we can get there in about 5 minutes or so. They are AWFUL tippers. I mean worse than freshman students living in the dorms. $35 order with 6 items? Here's a dollar. Thank me for my generosity. There's this one who literally snaps a dollar bill in front of my face and has the biggest shit eating grin on her face. Ordering for the whole neurology wing? You brought everything and even threw in a few extra sauces on a $200 order? We'll throw in $3.
They order a lot of food in one order and use 6-7 different credit cards which is a lot of paper and then EVERYONE has to pull out their purses when I read off the last 4 off the card, or it's a cash order and then throw a fit when the person who took their order didn't separate the orders (our system isn't capable of that) so it's my fault for not having the order totals with taxes and dividing the delivery charge 4 different ways in my head on the spot.
They don't tell us where to go. 3rd floor Team 2 tells me absolutely nothing. Unless there's a sign that says "Team 2 that way", don't complain when I have to call you. It doesn't matter how often we ask them to give their department so our new people can follow the signs, we still get "I order from here all the time, how do you not have the hospital teams memorized?" There are 8 floors and there can be 5 departments per floor, My brain is a hard drive and I'm out of space.
There's always SOMETHING wrong. "There's too much parmesan cheese on my bread order. I want another one and a full refund." The timed order was set for 6pm and we get there at 5:45. "I didn't want it at 5:45 I wanted it at 6! Can you all not tell time?" We always try to bring napkins with us. "Why aren't there plates? I shouldn't HAVE to ask for them! Can you not spare a few plates??" We try to be generous with the garlic on our bread. "OH MY GAWD I'M GOING TO REEK ALL DAY. DID YOU PUT ENOUGH GARLIC ON THESE?" One week later: "I PAID FOR GARLIC TWISTS, PUT SOME GARLIC ON THEM."
Yes, your job is hard and you're underpaid. I get it. You know who my best customers are? Military personnel, grad students, doctors, servers, people who do manual labor, call center workers, and general contractors. They do hard work and work long hours and we never have issues with them. They try to make it easier for us and in return we are in and out in less than a minute. Even when their tips aren't great they make it as easy on us as they can and that's enough. Plus the patients and their families are the nicest people you could possibly imagine and they are suffering to some degree and they make it as easy as they can.
Anyone else have issues delivering to nurses or am I totally lost here?

How I Spent My 27th Birthday In Quarantine
If you had told me that I’d spend my 27th birthday jobless, staying at my moms, with the entire world in a lock down, I’d think you were fucking nuts.
But I guess the reality is that the world truly is fucking nuts right now.
I don’t know why but my 27th birthday has always been one that I’ve never looked forward to. You’re officially in your late twenties, you either have your shit together or you don’t, and of course the ol’ 27 club. I wanted to make this birthday the BEST one ever. I had booked off two weeks of work, and was planning on seeing all my friends, and then taking myself of my absolute dream trip to Hollywood, California for a week. It was going to be perfect.
And then the world shut down.
So here I am, at my moms house, I haven’t seen anyone except my one friend Cole for two hours at a park, my trip to California is cancelled, but I’m going to try to still make this a good birthday. So, heres how I spent my birthday weekend in quarantine.
After waking up at 5:40am, 7am, and 8:15am I decided to finally admit defeat and stay awake. I already had a few messages to wake up to, so I started replying and feeling excited for the day. My mom came in a bit later to give me my gifts, which was this amazing candle holder and these cute reusable ice cubes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you tell I like flamingos? I started to get ready for the day and kept getting a bunch of messages from people, which made me feel super happy! I had a received a few cards from people, so once I was ready for the day I opened those next. My friend Amy sent me a lovely card, my friends Chris & Alissa gave me a singing pizza card with a pizza gift card inside, and my friend Megan sent me a package with some BEAUTIFUL jewelry inside!
Tumblr media
Thankfully I managed to get permission from my mom to go visit my friend Cole for the weekend (imagine having to ask permission to go to a friends house on your 27th birthday... Thanks, Covid-19!) so since I would be going out later, my mom and I got lunch together. We went to our favourite place in town, L.A. Franks, for some takeout.
Tumblr media
I thought these social distance signs were the cutest thing!
A few hours later I headed to my friend Cole's, and we had already agreed to get dinner from another one of my favourite spots in town, My Thai. We settled on a special priced pack they had that came with spring rolls, green curry, rice, and our favourite - vegan pad thai. We were so excited to order our food that we forgot to ask Cole's daughter what she wanted to eat - oops! After placing our order, we had to place a second one for her daughter.
We placed two Uber Eats orders in a row, and then I realized that I didn't have any mix for my vodka later that night. After looking at the options for a while, we placed another order from Tim Hortons because they were offering free delivery. You know where else had free delivery? Little Caesars. And you know what Little Caesars has? Crazy bread. Yup. 4 Uber Eats orders placed in about 10 minutes. It was my birthday. No shame.
Tumblr media
After dinner we were sad to see that the weather was starting to get a bit dark and gloomy. It ALWAYS seems to rain on my birthday, this is the third year in a row at least! I was determined to have a drink outside at the park though, and once the rain lightened up a bit, we made some to-go drinks and went to the park down the street.
Tumblr media
Okay, so maaaaybe it wasn't our best idea, and we got a bit wet and cold. But we made it outside for a drink and that's what matters! After a bit we decided to head back to Cole's, and we facetimed our friend Elyse for a bit. Once we finished up our facetime, it was time to drink, and we stayed up until 2am drinking, listening to music, and talking.
The next morning Cole made us a yummy breakfast and thankfully, it was beautiful and sunny outside, so we were able to have breakfast on the back patio!
Tumblr media
We didn't get up to too much this day, went for a short walk to the grocery store to get some beer for Cole, and just hung out in the backyard. Our friends Chris and Alissa, as well as their baby Finn came to visit (from a safe distance) and it was nice to just have a semi normal back yard hangout again! After they left Cole and I made a bunch of mozzarella sticks in her air fryer, and had a pretty low key rest of the night.
So was my birthday what I thought it was going to be? No, but was it still fun and did I get to see people I care about who helped make me feel special on this strange, quarantined birthday? Yes, and while it was definitely more low key and calm than my birthdays the past few years, it was definitely the 27th birthday I didn't know I needed.

20 Seconds of Bravery Ch 4
First
Previous
Next
The doctor was gone and I had just decided to order pizza for dinner. My brain was still trying to come to grasp with the fact that I had two, for lack of a better term, pizza virgins standing in front of me. I needed to know exactly how much of my theories were true. I was about to ask V but then Jumin cut in. "V have you ever had pizza before?" Jumin said pizza like it was a completely foreign word. I understood Jumin never having pizza. He was a big shot CEO who lived a very luxurious life.
"I can't say that I have actually. At least not the kind MC is talking about. All I've ever had is gourmet flat bread pizza." He said with his hand on his chin. I was amazed at these two. No wonder they were so mopey and stoic. They've never had pizza before.
"Oh my god. That explains so much. Pizza is like greasy cheesy heaven. You guys have no idea what your missing.
"I was never allowed to have such pizza because it was considered commoners food. This will be interesting." Jumin was highly amused as he continued to hold Yeti.
"Alright got Mr. CEO on board how about you V?" I don't think I had ever gotten so excited about ordering pizza. I could tell that V was amused.
"Of course I am MC. You haven't steered me wrong yet." I ran into my office and grabbed my cell phone. I noticed a lot of missed calls and texts but I ignored those and dialed the number for pizza hut.
"Any preferences on toppings?" They again looked like I was speaking a different language.
"What ever you think is good MC." I nodded and waited for someone to answer the phone.
"Hi this is for delivery. I need one large stuffed crust pizza with extra cheese, bacon, and chicken. Then I need a small pizza ran through the garden and the slaughter house. The address is 138 Sherman ave and I'll be paying with cash." I hung up the phone and walked back into the living room. "It will be here in about 30 minutes. Would you guys like anything to drink while we wait? I have soda, coffee, wine, tea,"
"Can you drink wine with pizza?" Jumin asked. He seemed to be consumed by curiosity. He wasn’t even paying anymore attention to Yeti.
"I mean you can drink what ever you want with pizza. Eating pizza is all about freedom so you can do what you'd like. I sometimes drink wine when I order pizza but it's just a what ever your in the mood for thing."
"I see. So you also drink wine." Jumin peered at me as if he was challenging me. I simply walked over to the cabinet in the living room and unlocked it.
"I do in fact," I pulled out a bottle of Merlot, "I was saving this for dinner this Saturday but if it's ok with V we can open it tonight. It taste good with just about anything." I passed the bottle to Jumin and he inspected it. "I also have whiskey, tequila, and a white wine if you'd rather have those. All my dramas are on hiatus so I haven't been buy wine a lot."
"I've never heard of this wine. I'd like to try it if V doesn't mind," He looked to V who nodded in approval. I was glad because I needed to unwind after the day. "Then it's settled. How long do you need to let it breathe for?" I got the corkscrew out of the cabinet and took the bottle from Jumin.
"Rule number one of cheap wine, it doesn't really need to breathe. Rule number two, drink slowly because it will hit you hard and fast." I popped off the cork and pored it into glasses. "We've still got about 15 minutes before the pizzas get here. So tell me Mr. Han,"
"Jumin is fine." I smiled and continued.
"So Jumin, what kind of things does V say about me?" V's face turned red and he chocked on his wine. He looked in between Jumin and I like he was dreaming. Jumin laughed and he seemed amused by his friend being flustered.
"It's nothing bad I assure you. He mostly just talks about how well you can cook, your cats, and how he worries about you. Oh he also talks about how cute you are and that you made your cats mini pancakes. I'm actually very interested in that last part. Elizabeth the 3rd won't eat my pancakes and I don't know why." Hearing that V talked about me made me feel very happy. It made my stomach do flips and my heart beat fast. "Honestly I haven't heard him talk about anyone like this since he met Rika." The name Rika struck a cord with me and I dropped my wine glass. I knew that name and I didn't want to remember it. The wine glass crashed onto the table and I could hear echos of V and Jumin's voices but all I could focus on her blonde hair and those green eyes. Something warm grabbed my hand and my body began to move. The more I moved the more I came back to reality. I was standing in my kitchen and V was very close to my face.
"MC. Please say something. What's wrong? Just breathe. I'm right here." I could hear the fear in his voice and then I realized what I had done.
"V." He breathed a sigh of relief and he pulled me into his arms.
"Oh thank God. Are you alright? I was worried. What happened?" I felt bad making V worry but I also didn't want to lie to him. If Jumin was talking about the same Rika that means V used to cherish her.
"I'll tell you later. I don't want to sir up memories while Jumin is here." He looked unhappy with my answer but before he could argue there was a knock at the door. "That's the pizza. I need to go pay for it. Can you go set this towel down where I spilled my wine?" He took the towel from me and kissed the top of my head.
"Ok. Just relax for now." I watched as V walked back to the living room. I walked to the door and opened it. I saw the familiar delivery guy Eric standing there with my pizzas.
"Hey Eric. How's it goin?" I asked while taking out my money.
"It's goin good. How've you been? I haven't seen you at the shop in a while." I handed him the money and he gave me the pizzas.
"I know. I've just been really busy and it's been cold. I'll come by when the weather gets warmer." I felt someone tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw Jumin. "Yes Jumin?"
"Do you need any help MC?" I was shocked at his gesture but I gladly let him help. "Thanks Jumin. You can just put these on the table. I'll be there in a seconds. V knows where the plates are." He looked from me to Eric.
"So this is a pizza delivery man. Interesting." I was going to introduce them but Jumin had already walked away.
"Was that Jumin freaking Han? Who the hell are you?" I rolled my eyes at him. "But no seriously why is he in your apartment and why is he eating pizza?"
"Well I'm kinda dating his best friend." Eric dropped his pizza bag and hugged me.
"Holy shit that's fantastic! Shelby is going to flip, but has Jake found out yet?" My face fell flat at his question.
"Yeah and he's not happy about it. But I'm done being afraid of him. I gotta go now. I'll stop by the shop and tell you guys everything later. Bye Eric." He waved as he headed back to his car and I closed the door. When I turned around V was standing behind me and I froze. "How much of that did you hear?" I asked trying not to panic.
"Enough to know that we're apparently dating and there's someone who isn't happy about it." I felt all the color drain from my face.
"I'm so sorry. It was just easier to say that than to tell the whole story. I didn't mean to assume anything." V walked over and grabbed my hand. He looked me in the eye, without breaking eye contact, and kissed my hand. There was no words but I somehow knew what he was saying. I had no idea what had come over me since I met V but I was the happiest I've ever been. My mom always said that 20 seconds of bravery was all it took to change your life and I was finally seeing what she meant. I embraced V and he wrapped his arms around me. "I promise to tell you everything after Jumin leaves."
"There's no rush MC. We'll talk later but right now Jumin is looking sliver wear for his pizza and won't listen to me." I rolled my eyes and laughed. I walked into the kitchen and Jumin was pouring another glass of wine.
"Ok Jumin. First of all how dare you try and eat pizza with silver wear. You use your hands, like this." I flipped open the lid and pulled a piece out and proceed to eat it. I put my piece on a plate and got a piece out for Jumin. "Think you can handle it Mr. Trust Fund?" I said giving him a look. He gave me a quizzical look.
"She sounds like Zen. Are you sure she hasn't met him yet?" Now V was laughing and I was just confused. V walked over and handed me a glass of wine, which I gladly took.
"I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence Jumin. Unless you know who Zen is MC." I was busy drinking wine so I just shook my head. "See. You worry for nothing." I had moved over to the table and just watched the two talk and eat their pizza. Jumin missed his mouth a few times but we let him think that we didn't see. Soon enough they joined me at the table and Jumin began to post in the RFA's chat room. "It appears that you keeping MC a secret has made Saeyoung angry at you." He reached for another piece of pizza and put it on his plate. "He said he keeps trying to call you but you won't answer." V just waved his hand in dismissal.
"Saeyoung can track my phone. He's just pouting because I won't let him do any digging on MC. It's not like when we met Jane and everything was suspicious. I understand that he worries but this is my personal life and he needs to accept that. Plus MC is honest with me and we've only know each other for about a week. I don't see a reason to rush anything."
"I see. Then you should at least tell him that. Can you really blame him for worrying though?" V seemed to look guilty and sad. By now I was on my third glass of wine and felt I should speak up.
"V if you want to tell everyone about me you can. I mean I've already met Jaehee and Jumin." I then turned to Jumin, "In fact Jumin is there anything that you want to know? Cause if there is now's the time to ask, I'm a lot more relaxed right now so I'll tell you anything. With in reason of course. That way V doesn't feel guilty and everyone can be satisfied until I meet them at the party." Both Jumin and V seemed shocked at my words.
"MC you don't have to do that. I don't want you do be uncomfortable and have another attack." I could tell he was worried and I was so touched by it.
"You are just too sweet but don't worry. Wine helps me relax so I won't have any more attacks to night. So Jumin ask away. Seriously anything you want to know." I took another bite of pizza and waited for him to ask.
"MC are you sure you're just not drunk?" V asked as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Trust me I'm not drunk. I just relax after a couple glasses of wine. My anxiety goes away and I'm able to be the person I truly wish to be. Someone who can make friends and go out on dates." I could tell I was getting sentimental so I changed the subject back. "So I say it again Jumin, ask me anything you want. I promise on my degree to answer anything to the best of my ability." He seemed more than amused by all of this.
"I'll raise you on your deal. Since I'm in the chat room already, I'll just ask everyone what they want to know and you can answer. I don't have any questions of my own so this will be more productive." I leaned back in my chair and took a sip of wine.
"Alright deal. So whose up first?" Jumin was still typing on his phone.
"My guess would be Yoosung. He's always very curious and suspicious of me." V was also now drinking his wine. I could tell he was nervous but I wasn't sure why. I wondered if he was worried about something I would find out.
"V relax. I'm gonna be fine. Watch this," I looked him in the eye, "my mother died when I was eleven. She was a doctor and I miss her every damn day." I waited and once he saw that I wasn't going to have an attack he relaxed. "See I've got this. So whose first Jumin?"
"Well both Yoosung and Zen wanted to know what you look like so I sent them a picture I took while you were talking to V. Now Luciel wants to know where your from."
"Easy. I was born and raised in this city. Next question."
"What do you do for a living? I can answer this one if you'd like." I nodded my head as he typed the answer. "Ok Saeran want's to know your favorite ice cream flavor."
"Mint chocolate chip in the summer and moose tracks in the winter." I looked at V, "Who is Saeran?"
"That's Saeyoung's twin brother. Zen is a musical actor, Yoosung is a student at Sky University, and Luciel owns a toy shop."
"Hey I went to Sky University! Jumin can you tell Yoosung that I said 'Go Rockets!' he'll know what it means."
"Alright. Zen also asked if you were single and I told him no."
"Wait what made you tell him no? I mean I'm glad you did but I'm just curious."
"V may think he's hiding it well but I'v known him for a long time and I can tell when he likes someone. That and he has his arm around you, so I assumed the interest was mutual." I hadn't even noticed V's arm around me. It just felt so natural. V had pulled his arm back and his face matched the wine he was drinking. I couldn't help but laugh.
"I mean I don't think your wrong. We haven't really talked about that, but if I may be bold, I like to think that there's hope." Now my cheeks were turning red. V got up and excused himself to the restroom. I felt like it was a little bit my fault. "I hope I didn't seem pushy. I do really like V but I'm grateful just to be friends. I don't know if he told you but I have really bad anxiety and it makes it hard for me to talk to people or even go out. But for some reason I feel safe with V. It's something I've never felt before so I'm still trying to figure it out." I realized that I was probably just boring Jumin with my feelings. He looked so deep in thought like he was trying to understand something.
"I see. I won't speak for V but I've only seen him with one other woman and he looks a lot happier with you. I can tell he cares a lot about you but I'm not sure what his intentions are. If he's scared then you'll have to be patient with him because he can be very stubborn." He took a sip of wine and leaned back.
"That I know. He chased me for three blocks just to apologize for taking my picture in the store and then insisted on walking me back. If that's not being stubborn then I don't know what is." We both laughed and then we heard a camera shutter. I looked over and saw that V had taken our picture.
"Well now that you've finally gotten your picture I should get going. Elizabeth is surely missing me. V would you like a ride back too?"
"No I'm going to stay with MC and help her clean up. I'll call a taxi later. Plus we need to talk about some stuff before I leave."
"Alright then I'll get out of your way. V don't forget that you need to set a date for the party too. We've started recommending guest  so Jane needs a date." Jumin headed towards the door and V followed him. I began to pick up the plates and put them in the sink along with the empty wine glasses. I finished my glass and put it next to the bottle. Seeing the bottle of wine reminded me that I spilled a glass in the living room earlier. I grabbed the stain remover and went to go put it on the spot. As I was talking care of that I heard the front door close and V walked into the living room.
"Would you like some help? That looks hard to do one handed." I had completely forgotten about my wrist until this point and I looked down at it. "What's wrong? Does it hurt?" I shook my head and smiled at him.
"No I was just having such a great time that I had forgotten about it. And as for the carpet just forget about it. If the stain is still there in the morning I'll just replace it." I stood there awkwardly because I knew that V had questions. This was the first time our silence had been awkward.
"So are you still relaxed enough to answer some of my questions, or should I save them for Saturday?" He had his hands in his pockets and was leaning against the wall. I hated that I was hiding so much from him. I wanted to take time and tell him everything slowly but I knew that the longer I kept talking to him the more aggressive Jake would become.
"V wine or no wine I'll tell you anything you want to know. But yeah right now is the best time so ask away." I laughed nervously as I went to the kitchen to wash my hands. I poured what was left of the wine into my glass and took a big drink.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to be uncomfortable anything. I'm willing to listen but if you're not ready to talk then I'll wait." His cheeks were tinted red and his face looked really melancholy. I couldn't keep him in the dark. If I wanted things to go any further with V I needed to be honest and take the risk. I was worried that he would bug out and leave but I was almost certain that wouldn't be the case.
"I want to tell you everything but I'm just nervous. I don't want to lose you like I've lost everyone else. I thought keeping you at an arms length would be best for both of us, but I don't think I can do that anymore. So I want to tell you everything and I'll just have to hope that you choose to stay." I watched as V crossed the room and hugged me.
"MC I promise you that I'm not going anywhere. I don't care about your secrets or anything. All I care about is being there for you. I want to help you face problems that you have. So please know that you can always rely on me."
"Thank you V. It really means a lot that you'd say that. Let's go sit down and I'll tell you what you want to know." I took his hand and we walked back to the living room. As soon as we sat down Yeti jumped in my lap and I began to pet him. "So where do you want to start?" He thought about it and seemed to make a decision.
"Why did the name Rika freak you out so much earlier?"
"I had a feeling that would be your first question. When I was in foster care I lived with this other girl named Rika and she was just awful to me. She was very beautiful, with her blonde hair and green eyes. Everyone thought she was so nice and sweet but when it was just us she was completely vile. She would always hurt me and say that she was just trying to shape my darkness. At first I tried to tell our foster parents about it but they didn't believe me. they thought I was just looking for attention. I had to put up with her for two years until she was actually adopted. After that it was in my case file that I a liar so I just stayed in the system. No one wants a teenager with attitude issues." V grabbed my hand and he looked so sad.
"How did she hurt you?"
"Usually it was just mentally. We only fought once but I was stronger than her physically, so she never tried that again. She would tell me that I was always unloved and no one but my darkness would accept me. Or that my mom left me because she found my darkness ugly. There were many times when I almost believed her but then I would look at pictures of my mom. If I disagreed with her she would so things to make my life difficult like one time she burned my homework. Or there was one time she got me expelled for supposedly trying to sell her weed. Honestly if I wouldn't of had so many memories of my mom I probably would have given in to her. There's no telling what she would have done to me then." When I looked at V he seemed to look very sad. "I know it sounds bad but looking back I pity her. She never knew her parents so I can understand why she was so bitter. A lot of kids bullied me because I was different from them. My mom never abandoned me, she just died. I was loved and I knew what that was like, so that made me different." I stopped talking so that V could take it all in.
"What was Rika's last name?" I had to actually think about it because I hadn't thought of her in so long.
"I believe it was Yang. Why do you ask?" Could my Rika be the same one that Jumin mentioned earlier. I really hoped that wasn't the case.
"I thought maybe I knew her but I seem to be thinking of someone else." I knew he was hiding something by the way he avoided eye contact. It made me sad that he wasn't being honest with me but I knew he'd tell me in time. For now I would just have to trust him.
"I see. Well I'd tell you more about her but after she got adopted I never saw her again. A couple years back I did run into those foster parents and they told me she was engaged, but that's the last I heard of her." I was watching V closely to see if he would react to that.
"If she's really as bad as you say then I feel bad for the man she married." He laughed nervously and ran a hand through his hair. He noticed me staring at him and he relaxed. "I'm really sorry that happened to you MC. I wish I could have been there for you."
"It's ok. Dealing with Rika was the nothing compared to Jake. At least Rika is gone but Jake is still trying to control my life."
"That was my next question. Who is Jake and why are you so afraid of him?" I took a deep breathe and got up from the couch. I reached behind the TV and pulled out a small book. I sat back and opened the book to a photo of me and a blonde hair boy. He was a little plump with a cigarette in his mouth and, although the picture didn't show it, he had his hand on my ass.
"Jake was my first boyfriend. I met him my freshman year of college and he was great at first. Then I began to focus on school and he just wanted to party. It started out as just emotional abuse. He would tell me that my major was pointless or that I was useless. It wasn't until I tried to break up with him that he got physical. I tried to maintain control but I was alone and had no one to lean on so I lost it. I just became some toy to him. He told me where to go, what to wear, and what I was going to do." I took a deep breathe and looked at V. His face was very stoic but he nodded at me to continue. "I would always try to run away but he would always catch me and punish me for it. He took everything from me. I never felt safe and there were days where I honestly thought he was going to kill me." I stopped to catch my breathe.
"So how did you get away?"
"I mean I never really did. I met Eric a couple years ago and he knew right away what was going on. Him and his wife helped me build a case against Jake and he went to jail for a while. I also got a restraining order against him so he can't come with in 1,000 feet of me. But that doesn't stop him from harassing me."
"What do you mean?" I pulled out my phone and opened my texts messages. "He has friends who watch me and tell him what I'm up to. For the last year I haven't heard a peep but since our dinner last Saturday I've gotten all of these." I passed V the phone and he scrolled through the messages. His calm expression turned to anger the more he read them.
"MC I fully apologize for this. If I would have know that you were receiving such vulgar messages I would have asked Luciel for help. Why didn't you tell me about these?" I could tell he was struggling with controlling his anger.
"I didn't tell you at first because I thought I could keep you at arms length and he would leave you alone. He can't do anything to me without risking more jail time but there's nothing stopping him from coming after you. I didn't care if you left but I didn't want you to get hurt." I felt so ashamed and couldn't even look him in the eye. "I know know that it wasn't the right thing to do but I also barely knew you. I didn't even plan on telling you any of this yet. I wanted to wait until I knew weather you'd actually stay." I heard V let out a deep breathe and he grabbed my hand. "I'm sorry. I know this a lot to take in and I understand if your angry."
"I'm not angry at you. I'm angry at this Jake person and I'm angry at myself. I just want you to be happy but I'm only causing more problems for you."
"V none of this is your fault. I knew that I'd have to deal with Jake at some point. I just never thought I'd have courage until I met you. I want to be happy and have you in my life, weather it's as a friend or something more. I want to make more memories with you V." I could tell he was shocked by my deceleration and his cheeks had turned a little red. Then he smiled and squeezed my hand.
"I'd also like that very much MC. I'll do what ever I can for you because your precious to me. Please don't ever forget that." His words had me speechless and all I could do was nod. "I have more question for you if that's alright," I gave him a look and he smiled, "Will you go out on a date with me this Saturday?" My face turned red and I was baffled.
"W-w-hy are you asking me out so suddenly?" I blurted out. V just laughed and smiled.
"Because if we go out on a date I can start calling you my girlfriend." He said it so smoothly and I was both elated and shocked. In my mind I was jumping up and down with joy but I realized that no words were coming out of my mouth.
"Well I guess Zen's question did strike a cord with you." I laughed as he blushed. "Of course I'll go out with you. I just have two request," he raised his eyebrow at me, "no where too fancy and no where too crowded."
"I think I can work with those." He said laughing. Yeti then jumped off my lap and began to meow. I looked at the time and saw that it was almost eleven.
"Oh wow it's late. Are you still going to be able to get a cab?" Now that V knew about Jake I was more concerned about his safety.
"Probably not but I can always try calling Jumin or Luciel." He pulled out his phone, "Excuse me for a moment." I nodded as he pulled out his phone and dialed the numbers. I went into the kitchen and grabbed two bottles of water. When I went back V had just hung up the phone. "Neither one answered. I guess I'll just find a hotel." Suddenly and idea dawned on me.
"You could stay here. My office has a murphy bed in it and I hardly ever use it." V's face was red but he kept his composure.
"I couldn't do that MC. I wouldn't want you to be uncomfortable in your own home." I rolled my eyes at him.
"V I trust you and I don't think you'll ravage me in my sleep, not without my permission at least." I had not expected that last part to actually come out. Both of our cheeks were red so I quickly changed the subject. "I even some extra clothes that you can sleep in. Wait right here." I went into my room and came back with a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt. "I hope these fit. I've never worn the sweat pants because they're way to long and I have more than enough t-shirts. You can use the bathroom to change and stuff. I'll go get the extra bed ready." I went back to my room and grabbed some sheets. I set them on my bed and quickly changed into my own pajamas. I went to the room next door and pulled down the murphy bed. It had been a while since I actually used it but it still seemed in good shape. By the time I had the sheets on it V was done in the bathroom and standing in the door way. The shirt was a little small on him but he didn't seem to mind.
"I don't think I've ever worn clothes like this. They're so casual and comfy." I laughed at his amazement.
"Well you can keep them if you want. Like I said the sweat pants are too big and I don't wear the shirt often because it's too tight. There was a small silence and I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to say goodnight but I knew it was late and today had been a long day. "Well is there anything else that you need?"
"You've already done enough. Just make sure you get some sleep." He kissed my forehead gently and I smiled.
"I will but if you need anything I'm just on the other side of this wall, so don't feel bad about asking." He nodded and I left the room. As soon as I got into my room I collapsed on my bed. I was completely exhausted but I had never had such a fun day. For the first time in my life I didn't have any trouble sleeping.

“I should have known you had an ulterior motive for coming here.  This place was too far away from home to come for lunch.”  Tae eyed Jin from across the table.  Jin had stopped by his apartment earlier, asking Taehyung to go eat at a new restaurant across the street from the mall.  Tae had been reluctant to go, preferring to spend his day off from work at home playing video games and ordering delivery instead of venturing out into the rain to go across town to eat.  However, Jin was insistent, saying he had a coupon that expired today and offered to pay for everything.
Now that their meal was over, the truth was coming out.  Jin had just asked the waiter to bring another order of food, wrapped to go.  “There’s no ulterior motive.  I just thought that since we were eating so close to Youngsook’s store, I’d get her some food too.  It’s one of her favorite places to eat.”
“If you wanted to see your girlfriend, you didn’t need to bring me along.  Why didn’t you just bring her here on her lunch break?” Tae knew there had to be more to this story.
“Saturdays are their busiest day, so she never leaves to get a proper meal.  She usually just gets a coffee and some bread from the bakery next door.  I’ll look like hero coming in with an honest-to-god meal from her favorite restaurant.” Jin fidgeted in his seat while looking at Tae.  “Plus, I need you there with me when I deliver the meal. She won’t throw the food at my head or yell at me if you are there.”
Tae crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, raising his eyebrows in a silent question towards Jin.
“She might be a little mad at me,” Jin continued.  “She hasn’t returned my calls in two days and she might think that I was flirting with her sister.”
“Why would she think that, Jin?”
“Because… maybe… I might have been a little too nice and complimentary to her sister when I was over at her place the other day.  And… maybe… just a little bit… um… well, I might have spent a lot of time staring at her boobs.”
“Jesus, Jin! Really? You were gawking at her sister? No wonder she’s pissed.”
“It’s not my fault!” Jin protested.  “I hadn’t seen her sister in probably two months and then she shows up at Youngsook’s place while we’re hanging out and apparently, she got a boob job since the last time I saw her. Youngsook never said anything to me about it, so I was surprised when her sister suddenly appears and has these humongous tits.  I couldn’t help but to stare at them.  This is all Youngsook’s fault!  She should have warned me!  Anyway, she got all mad and called me a pervert and was convinced that I’m not happy with her body… it’s a mess.  I need to get back in her good graces.”
Taehyung sat back in his chair and rolled his eyes, “I can’t believe you need me to come with you as a body guard so your girlfriend doesn’t beat you up.” Silently, though, Tae was happy for the excuse to go to Youngsook’s store with Jin, as he hoped you would also be working today and he might have a chance to see you.  It had been another two weeks since the day he went to your apartment to help hang pictures.  Every day since then, Tae had thought of you and what you looked like, naked and spread out before him, and relived the sweet agony of not being able to touch you or even touch himself.
He wanted desperately to see you again, but he was afraid to call.  What would he say if he could find the courage to contact you?    You had made it clear that dating was not something you were interested in and there was no doubt in Tae’s mind that you were in charge of anything sexual that happened between the two of you.  Honestly, Tae would be happy to accept whatever time you were willing to give him, but he wished he could be sure that he would see you again.  An incidental meeting at your job might be exactly the opportunity he needed to garner an invitation to spend time with you.
Jin and Tae entered the shop with a steaming hot meal boxed up and ready to be eaten.  Youngsook was behind the counter ringing up some patrons while Miri was organizing racks of clothing near the entrance.  Miri saw the men first and walked over to greet them with a smile, “Hi!  What are you guys doing here?” She looked at the bag in Jin’s hand with the logo of the restaurant printed on it and nodded knowingly, “Have you come to make amends? I heard about the fight.”
“She told you about that?” Jin looked embarrassed.
“She’s been moping around the store for the past couple of days, acting all depressed.  I asked her what the problem was and she told me what happened.  For what it’s worth, I told her I thought she was over reacting.”  Miri looked over her shoulder at Youngsook, who only now looked up from the cash register and took notice of Jin. “I think it’s good that you are here.  I’m pretty sure she was hoping you would make the first move.  I think you guys will make up pretty easily.”
Jin looked over at Youngsook who started to smile at him before remembering that she was supposed to be mad and quickly hardened her facial expression into a scowl.  “I’m going to go talk to her.  Wish me luck.” He walked towards the back of the store where Youngsook stood, leaving Taehyung and Miri alone together.
“It’s good to see you again, Tae.  How have you been?” Miri fussed nervously with the hem of her blouse as she asked the question.
“Good.  Busy.  Work’s been crazy,” Tae answered the question vaguely, feeling awkward about making small talk with her.  “You look a little different.  Did you do something with your hair?”
Miri smiled shyly and tucked her hair behind her ears, “Yes, thank you for noticing.  I got it cut a little shorter and added some highlights. Do you like it?”
“Yeah.  It looks nice.  Although it looked nice the other way too.”  Miri’s eyes lit up at the compliment, but Tae barely noticed as he started looking around the shop, taking note of the several customers scattered throughout the room. “Are you and Youngsook working alone today?  It seems kinda busy in here for just the two of you.”
“There’s a new part timer working today too.  She’s unpacking the new stock in back room.  It’s her first day, so things have been a little rougher than usual, but it’s not too bad.  It’s actually pretty slow for a Saturday.”  Miri tried to catch Tae’s eye while she spoke, but he looked around distractedly.
“So, it’s just the three of you here?  No one else?” Tae inquired.
Miri sighed knowingly. “She’s not here right now, if that’s what you are asking.”
“Who’s not here?” Tae asked, trying to play off the question as if he wasn’t actually fishing for information about you.
“You know exactly who I’m talking about, Tae.  There are always guys in here asking for her.  I don’t get it.  I mean, she’s pretty and all that, but so are a lot of people.  I’ve never seen men falling all over themselves for other girls the way they do for her.  It feels like there is some man coming in to talk to her or to give her his phone number every other day.” The smile was gone from Miri’s face as she continued, “I don’t mean to put her down, because she really is very nice to me, but I don’t understand what’s so special about her that men who barely know her are willing to embarrass themselves for her all the time.  She never really gives them any attention.  Even those times Jimin came by the store, she totally blew him off.”
“Jimin came to the store looking for her?” Tae was surprised to hear about this for the first time from Miri, as Jimin had never mentioned it.
“Yeah.  A couple weeks ago, he came by twice.  The first time we were super busy, so she really couldn’t pay him much attention and I didn’t think anything of it.  But the second time there were no customers at all and she practically ignored him.  I know they hooked up that night at the bar, but I guess it didn’t go well because she showed no interest in him at all while he was here.”  Miri tried to sound pleasant but couldn’t mask her feelings of disappointment. “I guess guys just want what they can’t have.  It’s like that night we all met at the bar… she and Jimin were all over each other, but you couldn’t stop staring at her the whole night.”
Tae cringed a little thinking about how his behavior must have looked to Miri.   “I probably wasn’t the friendliest person that night.  I just had a lot of stuff on my mind.  I’m sorry if I gave you the cold shoulder, I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s okay,” Miri noted with a touch of resignation in her voice. “You can’t help who you are attracted to.  Like I said, she’s very popular.  She’s on a date with some new guy right now…”
“A date?” Tae tried to sound disinterested, but couldn’t hide his curiosity.  You had been so insistent that dating wasn’t something you did. You had rejected Tae’s invitation to go out without giving him a moment’s consideration and it sounded like you did the same to Jimin.  Which just made him wonder, what kind of guy did you actually go on dates with?
“Yeah, I think she said they were going to a museum or something.  I don’t know.  I have a hard enough time getting a guy to even look at me and she’s always going out on dates,” Miri pouted.
“I don’t believe for one second that you don’t have plenty of guys looking at you.  A cute girl like you must be very popular.”
Miri’s face softened at the compliment.  “Well, I’m doing something wrong, that’s for sure.  She’s practically going out with a new guy every week. I need her to tell me what her secret is.”
A new guy every week sounded about right; you had been pretty explicit about the fact that you preferred to keep a variety of lovers.  Tae was sure these dates were likely just preludes to sex.  He wasn’t bothered by the idea of you sleeping with all these different guys as much as he was frustrated that he didn’t know if he would ever have the opportunity to even see you again.  Tae knew he was probably wasting his time constantly fantasizing about you when you clearly had better things to do.
While he contemplated this, Miri excused herself to go attend to a customer.  Tae watched her walk towards the checkout counter and noted the sway of her hips, thinking that under any other circumstances he would have been all over a girl like her.  Miri was just as pretty as you, but different.  She was perky and friendly, and her attraction to Tae was written all over her face.  He thought about how you even encouraged him to ask Miri out, right before he watched you strip naked and finger yourself.  A slight grin spread across his lips as he remembered that day; you were overwhelmingly sexy and unpredictable… and maddening.  He shook the thought from his head and told himself that what he really needed was to get on with his life and start dating normal girls again.  Girls like Miri.
Tae looked around the shop for a few minutes, realizing that Jin and Youngsook were both missing.  As he considered whether he should continue waiting for Jin or just leave and grab a taxi home, he saw Jin step out from a door by the dressing rooms.  “Thanks for waiting for me.  Youngsook and I worked everything out, problem solved,” Jin said with a goofy grin plastered on his face.
“I guess so,” replied Tae, looking at his disheveled friend, who was tucking his shirt back into his pants and trying to smooth his hair. “You might want to wipe that smear of lipstick from your mouth before we head out.” As they walked towards the door, Tae waved good-bye to Miri who smiled and waved back.
“You know, Miri’s single,” Jin mentioned as the two men got into Jin’s car.  “I can get her number from Youngsook for you, if you want.  She told Youngsook that she thinks you are really good looking.”
“I don’t know.  There was this other girl I was interested in, but it’s not really going anywhere.  I should probably take you up on the offer, but I’m just not sure.” Tae shrugged his shoulders and he and Jin drove home in silence, both lost in their respective thoughts.
It was almost 11 o’clock at night when Tae’s phone rang.  He was slightly annoyed that someone would call that late and almost chose to ignore the phone, but when he glanced over and saw your name on the screen, he couldn’t answer fast enough.  “Hello? Hi. It’s been a while.  What’s up?” Tae tried his best to sound casual while his heart beat rapidly in his chest.
“Hi Tae.  I heard you stopped by the store this evening looking for me.”  Your voice sounded luxurious over the phone, smooth and confident.  “I thought I would call and see what it was you wanted to say to me.”
Tae stood up and paced the room while he talked.  “Oh, that. Jin and I were just having lunch in the area and stopped by the store so he could see Youngsook… but since I was there, I thought… you know… I thought I would check to see if you were there too.”
“And if I had been there, was there something you would have said to me?”
“I… don’t know.” Tae wondered what exactly he would have said had you been at the store, he hadn’t really prepared anything in advance.  “I wasn’t really going there specifically to see you.  I was just tagging along with Jin.  But I hadn’t seen or heard from you in a couple weeks and it might have been nice to say hello and see what you are up to these days.”
“Well, it would have been nice to say hello to you too.  It’s too bad I wasn’t there.” Tae smiled to himself, pleased to hear that you would have welcomed his visit. “What are you doing right now?” you asked him.
“Nothing, really. I was just watching tv.”
“Its Saturday night, shouldn’t you be out doing something fun?” you asked him.
“Normally, I would be. But I just felt like a quiet night in this weekend.” The truth was that Tae was bored, but his friends all had other plans, leaving him alone.  “What about you?”
“I was out earlier.  I should just go to bed but I’m wide awake right now.  I was thinking about having a glass of wine and watching a movie instead.  You’re welcome to join me if you are interested,” you offered.
Tae pumped his fist in excitement at getting an invitation to your home and then steadied himself before responding, “I’m very much interested. I’ll head straight over.” Immediately upon hanging up the phone, he rushed to make himself more presentable and get to you as quickly as possible.
When Tae arrived at your door, he was wearing a brand new shirt and a little too much cologne.  He carried an overpriced bottle of wine that he picked up on the way, one that the shop keeper said was well liked by women and sure to impress.  You, on the other hand, wore shorts with an oversized hoodie that obscured your figure, your hair pulled back, and no makeup.
Despite your dressed down state, Tae thought you looked beautiful, even innocent, until he saw that knowing smirk cross your lips. “You didn’t have to get all dressed up to just hang out with me,” you advised him.
“I didn’t.  I just grabbed something out of the closet so I could look half way decent.  I didn’t want to give the impression that I was a total slob.” He failed to tell you that his bed was covered with different shirts he put on and subsequently threw off for not making him look cool enough.
“Well, hopefully you aren’t insulted that I didn’t do the same for you.” You leaned in closer to Tae and inhaled deeply, causing his heart to start palpitating. “Nice cologne.”
“Th-thanks.” Tae thrust the bottle of wine he was carrying towards you. “Here, this is for you.”
“Thank you.  I’ll go pour a couple glasses for us.  You can go have a seat on the sofa and maybe check to see what movie you are interested in.”   You disappeared into the kitchen while Tae sat down, wiping his sweaty palms on the legs of his trousers.
“Did you have something particular you wanted to watch?” Tae called out while flipping through the options.
“No horror.  I won’t be able to sleep because I’ll be all freaked out when I’m alone in bed later.”  Tae was well aware of the implication of your words, that he would not be spending the night in your bed with you. You came out of the kitchen with the open bottle and a pair of wine glasses, sitting next to Tae, you poured a glass for each of you.  “A comedy might be nice.  Today was a bit of a disappointment over all.”
“Your date didn’t go so well?” Tae asked you before taking a sip of the wine.
“Ah.  You heard about that?”
“Only that you were on a date with a new guy.  I was a little surprised.  I thought you said you weren’t the dating kind.”
“I’m not.  At least not in the traditional sense.  But it’s not like I don’t enjoy going out to eat or going to the theater or whatever, so I’m not completely opposed to letting a guy take me out before I fuck him later on.”
Tae choked a bit on his wine.  He wasn’t sure why he was always surprised to hear you speak so plainly and openly of your sexual activities, but it still caught him off guard. “Does that mean that you and the guy from earlier today… you guys… um…” Tae hoped you wouldn’t make him say it outright, but you just stared at him, waiting for him to finish his question. “Um… you know… did you have sex with him?”
“I did.  Does that bother you?”
“No, not really.” Tae answered honestly; you had been very clear about your intentions to sleep around with a variety of men, so he never even considered you to be someone he could have exclusively to himself.  But he did wish he better understood what exactly you wanted your relationship to be and if he was ever going to be one of those men who got to fuck you.  “I’m mostly just curious what makes you want to go out on a date and have sex with one man and but not with another.”
You looked at Tae while twirling a lock of hair in your fingers.  Your silent gaze made him nervous and he quickly finished off his glass of wine before pouring another one.  In what felt like hours but was probably less than a minute, you spoke, “Why don’t you ever just ask me the question you actually want an answer to, Tae?”
“What question is that?”
“Why haven’t you got to fuck me?  Isn’t that what you really want to know? Why is it that he got to stick his dick inside me and you haven’t?” You raised an eyebrow and waited for his response.
“That’s not the only thing I want to know,” Tae stared into his wine glass, unable to meet your eyes. “But the thought has crossed my mind.  Why those guys, but not me?”
“You need to not compare yourselves to those other men, Tae. They are all just there to satisfy a momentary urge on my part.  It’s like having an itch I can’t reach on my own – one that can only be reached by having a man’s dick shoved deep inside me.  The guy hardly matters, he’s just there to do a job for me and then when the job is done, we part ways and that’s it.  But I also have an interest in cultivating something of an on-going relationship with certain people who I can call on from time to time.  People who are willing and able to do more than guys like the one I fucked tonight are able to do.”
“So, does that mean that I’m one of those people you are cultivating?”
“That means that you are an old neighbor who I invited over to my home and whose company I have enjoyed so far and I hope to keep enjoying, but time will tell.  We’ll just have to see where this thing goes.  But if it makes it easier on you to have things spelled out, I will not be fucking you tonight and I expect you to keep your dick in your pants this evening.”
While he was disappointed that the opportunity to have sex with you tonight had been shut down so explicitly, it was a bit of a relief to know where he stood at least for now. Between the two glasses of wine and the realization that he would not be fucking you right away, Tae started to relax a bit around you.  “On another note, I’m glad you called me.  I was starting to worry that I’d never hear from you again.”
“Why didn’t you just call or text me yourself, Tae?  You have my number after the last time I contacted you.” You turned your body to face him, tucking your legs casually under you.
“I didn’t think I was allowed to.  I didn’t want to break any rules or do something that you didn’t want me to do.”
Your trademark smirk reappeared.  “Most guys act on impulse and do what they want in the moment.  But you’re special, Taehyung.  You always have been.  I have high hopes for a developing a friendship with you.”
A smile broke out across Tae’s face at the praise and he poured another glass of wine for the two of you.  “I guess I have some high hopes too.”  His eyes lingered on your lips as you drank; for a moment, he let himself imagine what it might be like to kiss you, wondering if it would be soft and gentle or deep and passionate.  He thought about how he would have already kissed you if you were any other girl, he was generally unafraid to make the first move, but with you, Tae waited for you to set the pace.  He wasn’t even sure if you kissed people.  Did you kiss the guy who you went out with today? Had you kissed Jimin?
The silence lasted a little too long and you asked him, “What are you thinking about?  You seem distracted.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. You said today was kind of a disappointing day… what happened?”
“The day started with an argument with my mother over the phone and then that date turned out to be less than satisfactory.”
“What did you and your mother argue over?” Tae inquired.
“Just family drama.” You quickly changed the subject back to your date.  “And that guy I went out with this afternoon, was a total dud.  He was fighting me for dominance the whole time and he was really sub-par as a fuck.  The only way he would have been worthwhile is if he was tied to the bed and gagged so I could get myself off using his pretty body and not have him mucking things up by actively participating. I’m usually a much better judge of character when I select someone.    This is the second guy I’ve let take me out that didn’t know how to submit properly. At least the first guy tried and I was still able to cum, but this guy today… totally useless. I feel like I’ve been off my game a little bit. Back in the States, I had established routines, relationships, networks of people I could call on.  Now that I’m in Korea, it’s like I’m trying to build my life back up from scratch and things are different here. I gotta admit, I miss the consistency of my old life back home.”
“What would you have done today if you were back in the US?” he asked.
“Well… today is Saturday, so I probably would have slept in until 10am because I would have been working at the strip club the night before.  I’d go to the gym for the 11am body sculpting class and then come home, shower, make myself something to eat, maybe read a little.  By 2pm I would be in my studio painting.  The late afternoon sunlight was really good back there. And then around 4 or 5pm, I’d eat a snack and start getting ready for work.  Saturdays was private show day.  Bachelor parties mostly, but sometimes other events, house parties, guy celebrating his divorce, a few times it was even at a celebrity’s house. That’s always interesting.
“Anyway,” you continued, “Mike, that’s our regular security guy, would pick me and Susanna up at our homes and drive us to the site.  And from there it would depend on what they paid for, but mostly it would be a couple hours, you start by working the room, some clothed lap dancing, grinding on them, then a slow striptease, then dancing with each other while in various states of undress, and then the grand finale where we would eat each other out while everyone in the room watched.  I think I liked Saturdays the best of all the days.  Susanna always made me cum, I never had to fake it for the sake of the show.
“After that, Susanna would usually offer guys blow jobs for a little extra cash, so she would set up shop in a bathroom or back bedroom or something.  She really wasn’t supposed to be doing that, but she’s married to this douchebag with a gambling problem, so she is always looking for ways to make more money to pay their bills.  It’s sad, really.”
Tae just looked at you, unblinking.  The idea of watching you having your pussy licked by someone was causing his dick to stir in his pants and he shifted in his seat to try to keep his burgeoning erection from being visible.  “So, you didn’t do that kind of thing?  I mean selling off blow jobs?”
“Absolutely not. Don’t get me wrong, I tried it a couple times when I first started out and I really needed money, but I hate the way it makes me feel to let other people use me like that.  I use others, they don’t use me.  That’s my rule.  I’ve got no qualms taking money for sex.  But I want to set the terms of what happens.  Every once in a while, I might see someone I have interest in and I would approach him for sex but I make him pay for the pleasure of my company. That’s how I met this guy David who was one of my regular friends.  He would pay me once a month to peg him in the ass.  I mean, I totally would have done that for free, but there is just something that makes it a bit more sordid to make him pay to have me defile him.  That just turns me on a little extra.”
Downing the last of the wine, Tae looked you in the eye and said, “I don’t think I could ever pay for sex. It just seems so wrong and unnecessary.”
“Are you sure about that? You might be surprised what you would be willing to do under the right circumstances.”  You let your eyes fall to Tae’s crotch, licking your lips, before returning to his face.
Tae felt the heat rising in his chest to have you look at him that way.  He knew you were just teasing him, since you already said that he had to keep his dick in his trousers tonight, and Tae was quite sure that you weren’t the kind of woman to change her mind easily.  He pulled a throw pillow onto his lap in the hope that if he covered himself, maybe he could forget the stiffness growing between his legs.
“You know, Tae, I’m remembering how disappointing that guy from earlier today was.  I really wanted to get off today, but his incompetence made that impossible.”  You leaned in a little closer to him as you spoke and he couldn’t help but stare at your lips, carefully watching how they moved as you formed every word.  “You wouldn’t leave a girl unsatisfied, would you?”
“No.  Of course, I wouldn’t.” Tae licked his lips, as he wondered what you might taste like.
“I know you wouldn’t. You are a gentleman, a good man.” You leaned over to set your glass of wine down on the side table.  “You want to kiss me, don’t you?”
Tae’s heartbeat started to drown out all his thoughts.  “Yes.” He began to lean in towards you, but you deliberately turned your head away from him, preventing him from getting closer.
“I don’t think we are in a kissing kind of relationship just yet. But I would be very happy to let you put your lips to work in a different way.” You turned back towards him and could see the look of confusion in his face. “I’d love to see that gorgeous face of yours buried between my legs, working hard to make me cum.  Is that something that you would be interested in?”
His pulse quickened and he could feel his cock jerk upwards at your request.  He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out.  Instead, he nodded his head vigorously to indicate his enthusiasm.  He couldn’t believe his amazing luck that he would finally be able to touch you.
You untucked your legs and positioned yourself comfortably on the sofa, facing forward with your thighs spread wide.  “If you want to do this, then come here and kneel between my legs.”
Tae scrambled off the sofa, pushing the coffee table out of the way, and lowered himself to his knees. Looking up at you from his position on the floor, he asked, “How do you want me to do this?”
Your smirk returned. “I want you to start gentle. Touching with the hands should be minimized, the focus is your mouth against my pussy and any additional touching should be avoided.  That includes touching yourself, by the way.”
Tae looked at your shorts and wondered if he was allowed to use his hands to remove them.  He wasn’t sure and was afraid to ask.  He moved his hands slowly towards your waistband, hovering over it, waiting to be reprimanded, but you simply raised your hips to make it easier for him to remove the clothing.  As he pulled them over your hips and down your legs, he was acutely aware of his fingers barely grazing your thighs, soft and smooth.  He folded your shorts neatly and set them on the sofa next to you, while you settled in comfortably, propping yourself against the cushions and spreading your legs wide.
Your pussy lips looked soft and inviting. Tae lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss at the top of your slit.  He thought about how this was his first kiss with you and it was not happening the way he thought it might.  But then again, nothing with you went the way Tae thought it would and he considered whether or not he should just give up having expectations altogether.
He inhaled deeply, trying to capture your scent.  Relishing the musky scent of your arousal before he dove in, letting his tongue slip through your folds and tasting the salty sweet center.  With a soft, flat tongue, he licked up the length, dragging it against your clit.  He could feel the small nub under his tongue and circled it slowly while gazing up at your face.
You threw your head back and closed your eyes.  “Keep going like that.  You’re doing a good job.”  Tae watched as you slid your hands under your shirt, grabbing at your own breasts, massaging them, possibly pulling at your nipples, and he wished you would let him do that too.  “Do you like being able to taste me?  Do you enjoy having your tongue deep in my cunt?”
Tae moaned in appreciation with his lips tight against your clit, hoping you could feel the vibrations. There had been at least a dozen or more women that Tae had eaten out in the past, but he only did it as foreplay, as a way to get a woman warmed up for his cock.  The objective was always to end up with his dick inside the girl. But with you, he knew fucking was not an option tonight, so, for the first time, he really focused on getting you off, enjoying the softness of your flesh, exploring the crevices and folds between your legs, enjoying the textures under his tongue.  Tae wrapped his lips tenderly against your clit, kissing it repeatedly before he started sucking at it.  He could feel the bud swell slightly under his ministrations.
“Shit!  That feels good!  I should have called you over here sooner to do this.”  You sat forward a little and spread your pussy lips apart to give Tae better access and allow yourself to see what he was doing.  “Your mouth looks so pretty against my pussy. I really wasn’t planning on any of this when I called you over here, but looking at those gorgeous lips of yours, I really couldn’t resist.”
Sliding his tongue into your hole, Tae attempted tongue fucking you for a few moments, then returned to your clit.  He listened carefully to the changes in your breathing and the way your body tensed or relaxed depending on what he was doing.  His dick was beginning to throb but he tried to distract himself by focusing more on you, planting his face fully against your pussy, his nose pressed against your clit, sucking your labia between his lips, stroking you with his tongue, your juices beginning to drip down his chin. In time, you began to rotate your hips, grinding into him.  Tae held tightly onto the sofa cushions to keep himself steady while you rode his face, sliding your pussy over him, his cheeks now glistening with remnants of your pleasure.
“Fuck! I’m close… but I need something more.”  You raised your leg and pressed your heel against Tae’s shoulder, pushing him away from you.  “Wait here,” you told him as you stood up from the sofa and walked back to your bedroom. Tae took your momentary absence to adjust himself, gripping his cock through his trousers, looking for a more comfortable position as he tried to ease the pressure of his erection. Seconds later you reentered the room and Tae quickly removed is hand from between his legs, hoping you hadn’t noticed what he was doing and feeling a little guilty for having defied your rule.
As you sat back down in front of Tae, he noticed you were carrying two items in your hands, a penis shaped dildo and a bottle of lube.  “As much as I love the feeling of you licking me, I feel a little empty.  I need to have something inside me and unfortunately, we’ve already agreed that it can’t be you.”  You handed the two items to Tae, “Lube that up for me, will you?”
Silently, he opened the bottle of lube and poured some over the tip of the silicone cock in his hand. “Is that enough?”
“You have to rub it in, Tae. Make sure it is completely coated. Do it like it was your own dick. Use the lube to stroke it.”  He did as he was told, imagining that it was his own cock in his hand, gripping it firmly and sliding his palm over the length, distributing the lube over the surface.  “Is that how you touch yourself when you think of me?  You do think of me, don’t you?”
“Yeah.  I do, I think of you a lot,” Tae confessed.  You were the center of all his fantasies lately. Not a day had gone by since seeing you again after all those years that Tae didn’t end his night rubbing himself to an orgasm, thinking about you.  He would remember the things he had seen and the stories he had heard.  He would think back to the nights of peeking through your bedroom window, remember seeing you having sex with other men, only now in his memory, you looked like the grown woman she were today and not the girl you were back then.
“That dildo is pretty much the same size and shape of the guy I went out with earlier today.  It’s even the same color.” Tae looked at it carefully, it was only slightly thicker than his own dick but quite a bit longer. “It’s almost like you are stroking his cock.  It’s like you are getting him hard for me.”
Tae let out an involuntary moan at your words.  It was so wrong… but he couldn’t help himself.
“Let’s see if you can do a better job fucking me with his cock than he did.”  You threw one leg over the arm of the sofa and propped the other against the seat cushion, leaving you spread wide.  You further opened yourself up, pulling your labia apart, so that everything was visible and available to Tae.
Lining the head of the dildo up with your entrance, Tae slowly pushed it into your vagina.  He watched the head disappear into your body, then the shaft, until it was stopped by the fake silicone balls pressed against your core, and then he slowly pulled it out again.  “Is this okay?” he asked.
“Is this how you would fuck me if I let you?”
It wasn’t.  If Tae had been allowed to fuck you he would have not been able to control himself so easily, he would have wanted to pound into to you as hard as he could.  He began to move quicker, sliding the dildo in and out more vigorously, listening to the slight squelching sound it made as your pussy sucked it in.  He tilted it upwards slightly, aiming for that spot just behind your clit.
“That’s better.”  You returned your hands under your shirt and half way closed your eyes.  “The only thing I need now is for you to go back to sucking on my clit while you keep fucking me like that.”
Tae fastened his lips to your clit, sucking at it, concentrating to keep time with the thrusting of the dildo.  It felt almost like a meditation to focus all his energy on pleasuring you, and he was rewarded with the sound of your breathing getting shallower as you got closer. In that moment, all Tae wanted was to make you cum, to prove to you that he was worthy of your attention, to ensure that you would allow him to opportunity to see you again.  He couldn’t see your face from his position, but he could see your belly from where your shirt had ridden up slightly, he heard a faint whimper escape your lips and then saw the muscles in your abdomen contract and your breathing temporarily stop.  It got harder to move the dildo in and out of you as your pussy spasmed and tightened around it.  It was through these signs that he knew he had made you cum.  Tae wished he could have truly made you fall apart into a writhing moaning mess, but he also doubted someone who insisted on so much control ever let a man see her in that state.  Still, he felt proud that he had caused you to orgasm.
You pushed Tae back with your heel again and took the now dripping wet dildo from his hand and ran your tongue up the length of it, licking your juices from it, while staring directly at Tae.  He groaned at the sight and shifted his weight on his knees, once again uncomfortably aware of the way his dick pulsed and ached, in desperate need of his own relief.
“You did a good job, Tae. Thank you.”  You grabbed your shorts off the sofa and slipped them back on.   “You can get up and sit next to me on the sofa if you like.”  Tae stood up slowly, stretching his sore legs from kneeling for so long.  Standing in front of you as you sat, your eyes were level with Tae’s crotch, you tutted when you saw him and pointed your finger directly at the bulge straining in his pants.  “That looks like it could be quite the distraction.  Will you be able to enjoy watching a movie with your dick that hard?”
Tae laughed slightly, having completely forgotten about the plan to watch a movie in the first place. “It will be very hard to concentrate on anything right now.  Are you offering to help bring me some relief?”
You sucked the air sharply through your teeth and responded, “I’m not sure, Tae.  I think relief is something that is your own responsibility. It’s too bad you aren’t allowed to take you dick out of your pants or touch yourself while you are in my home.”
“Are you telling me I should leave?”
“Of course not!  I invited you over here because I thought it would be nice to watch a movie with a friend.  I was just thinking I could open another bottle of wine and pop some corn while you pick the movie and get it started.  I will never make you stay, I will never make you do anything that you don’t want to do.  You know that, right?  You always have the right to say no and you always have the right to leave.  But I would like for you to stay.”
Tae nodded and followed you into the kitchen as you busied yourself making the popcorn.   Your juices had dried, but the scent of you clung to him as a constant reminder of what had just happened.  Tae licked his lips searching for a lingering taste while his eyes fell to your bare legs.  While he was eating your pussy, he at least had something to concentrate his overwhelming lust on, but now the only thing he could think about was his own dick, and how badly he needed to cum, how much he wanted you to touch him, how he would do anything to alleviate this pressure.
“Yoo-hoo! Tae!  You didn’t answer my question! Are you in there?”
Shaken from his thoughts, Tae raised his eyes from your legs to your face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you.”
“I asked if you would rather have beer than wine.  I’ve got soda too, if you don’t want alcohol.”
Tae watched your mouth move, but was unable to make sense of the words.  That was the mouth that sucked his friend’s dick.  Jimin had described it so vividly that the image was now burning in his brain. He pondered how it was possible that you would willingly go down on Jimin after only meeting him once and yet you preferred to see Tae suffer.  What would he have to do to someday feel your lips wrapped around his own cock.
You stepped closer to Tae, so you were mere inches from him.  “This isn’t going to work, is it?”
“What isn’t”
“You.  Your brain is addled with lust right now, isn’t it? You can’t quite handle the denial and it’s going to interfere with our evening.”
“I’m sorry.  I don’t know what to do.  I don’t know what you want me to do.” Tae sounded exasperated. “I’m trying really hard here, but I’m not used to this.  Whenever I’m with you I feel like I’m a fucking sixteen-year-old again and my body feels like it’s on fire!”
“Maybe I’m being unfair to you, Tae.  I mean, after all, you did just do something very nice for me.  I think I’ve got an idea of how you can take care of your little problem and still abide by the rules I’ve laid out for the night.”  Your eyes dropped to his crotch as you directly addressed the bulge in his trousers.  “Do you want that?”
“Yes, p-p-please,” Tae stuttered, nervous of what you might have in mind.
“You say you feel like a sixteen-year-old?  Do you really remember what it was like being a sixteen-year-old boy?  Constantly horny, ready to explode at the slightest touch? Uncontrollable erections? Grinding against anyone and anything who would let you? Dry humping because you couldn’t get a girl to go all the way with you?”
Tae remembered all too well. He spent most of his sixteenth year lusting after you.  Half the time with his hand thrust down his pants and the other half wishing he could stick his hands down his pants.  “What did you have in mind?”
“I would be willing to let you grind against something until you cum.  Maybe you could grind against the arm of that chair out there?  Or would you prefer a pillow? You can choose any object in the apartment.”
He wondered if you were mocking him.  The idea of having to hump a pillow to get off in front of you felt degrading.  He should have been turned off by just the suggestion, but here he was actually contemplating it.  “I don’t know if that would work.”  Tae remembered his teenage self, the year after you left Korea.  He had a girlfriend who let him grind against her while they kissed in the woods behind the school.  At the time, he thought that was the pinnacle of sexual gratification.  “Maybe it would work if I was grinding against a real person.”
You laughed out loud at Tae’s suggestion and he blushed in embarrassment for bringing it up. “You’re obviously starting to feel more comfortable around me to ask for such a thing.  How about this?  You pay me 20,000 won and I allow you to hump my left leg from the knee down?”
“Pay you?” Tae recalled how earlier you had chided him for saying he would never pay for sex.
“Do you really think you can just ask for me to do something for you and not give anything in return?”
He wanted to say that this was wrong, and hypocritical; he had just performed oral sex on you, certain he would get nothing in return.  But instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, handing the money over to you.  This was not a relationship of equals and Tae knew it.  As humiliating as it was, he would take whatever you were willing to give him, at any price.
You crooked a finger, urging Tae to follow you back into the living room, where you sat in a chair, leaving your left leg outstretched.  “Take off your trousers, but leave your underwear on.  I don’t want to get scratched by your zipper.”
He let his pants drop the floor and knelt before you once more, straddling your leg.  With only his gray cotton undies covering his cock, Tae’s erection was even more pronounced, pushing the fabric forward to form a tent. He reached out to grab the back of your calf, but looked up at you first to make sure it was okay to touch you. You nodded your assent and for the first time ever, Tae placed his hands firmly on a part of your body, gripping the firm muscles of your calf, feeling the smooth warm skin under his fingers. Just the act of touching you caused his breath to hitch, but when he pressed his cloth covered dick against your shin, he moaned aloud.  The feeling of his sex bearing down against you felt electric; he felt enflamed, craving more contact.  Within seconds he was rubbing himself up and down your leg, humping you like a dog in heat. He felt like a dog, a mindless animal fixated on making himself cum.  The dry friction of his underwear and the boniness of your shin hurt slightly, and Tae was sure he would end up red and sore for days after this, but at this moment he didn’t care.  Nothing mattered more than what he was doing right this second.
“I guess you really were horny.  You poor thing.”  You looked down at Tae and for a fleeting moment he felt himself blush, embarrassed by how he was willing to debase himself in front of you.  “I can feel how hard your cock is right now.  This must hurt you.  But sometimes a little pain is the price we pay for pleasure.”
Tae looked down unable to meet your eyes for very long.  He thought about all the other men you had been with and wondered if you treated any of them the same way you treated him.  Despite his frustration, his libido raged and Tae would not have been able to stop himself if he tried.
As if you could read his mind, you responded to Tae’s thoughts. “You really are special, Taehyung. Most men fight too hard for control, they fight to make sure they get everything they want as quickly as possible… and they miss out on all the pleasure that is available to them by relinquishing control.  If you are patient, I think you’ll find that many rewards await you.”
Despite your words, Tae’s only thought was his immediate release.  He craved physical gratification, but satisfaction still felt out of reach.  “Please,” he begged you, “I don’t think I can do this.”
“Focus.  You’ll be fine.  Here,” you said pulling your leg away slightly and lifting your foot a few inches from the ground, “try this.”
Tae grabbed on to your foot, pulling it tightly against his distended cock and gyrated his hips, rubbing circles into the sole of your foot with his erection.  The sensation was different than pressing against your shin. It was softer, yet still firm, and the bones did not cut into him.  The friction was still intense and felt like a fire was burning between his legs, but the enjoyment was much greater.  He started to feel the orgasm he had been chasing finally get closer.
“Honestly, Tae, I think it’s so hot watching you do this.  I love seeing you desperate and needy.  Fucking that guy earlier today was nothing compared to watching the debauchery you are displaying for me here.  God, I can’t wait to see you cum in your pants like a fucking teenager.  I know there are so many women who would happily spread their legs and let you do whatever you wanted to them, but instead you are here humping my fucking foot like a degenerate.”
Degenerate. Pervert.  Weirdo.  That’s how Tae felt, but the shame seemed to only fuel his lust further.  The heat in his loins intensified and he could feel his balls start to lift, he could barely control his breathing, and then it happened… with a final grunt, his cock jerked violently and his seed spurted out and was absorbed by the fabric of his underwear.  Tae fell back on his haunches and his body shook slightly from expending so much energy while he came.
Looking down, he saw the wet spot growing on his underwear and he started to laugh.  “I don’t know how you do this to me.  I’m not like this with any other girl.”
“Maybe you’ve been spending your time with the wrong kind of woman.” You stood up from the chair and looked down at him.  “I’m finally going to go make that popcorn I promised while you go select the movie.” You changed the subject casually, as if everything that had taken place moments ago was completely normal and not worthy of further consideration.  “Since it’s so late, maybe an action film would be better.  That way I won’t fall asleep while watching.  Nothing too gory though, I don’t like a lot of blood.”
Tae watched you as you slipped back into the kitchen.  He thought, Maybe I have been spending my time with the wrong kind of women, but I still don’t know what kind of woman you really are.

The One Where Chloé Knows
Chloé finds out that Marinette is Ladybug, and ends up telling her more than she wanted to. Marinette offers a new idea: being nicer to people. ((One-sided Chlonette, eventual Chloix))
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, now on Ao3
The Dupain-Cheng bakery was warm, as always. It smelled wonderful as well. Cookies and breads and all sorts of things were baking in the oven. It was thankfully empty, probably because no one really wanted to risk being hit by an Akuma for cookies. Although, the treats here were very worth it.
Marinette’s mother had taken the opportunity to restock, walking back and forth between the kitchens and the front shelves, barely looking to the storefront. Still, she heard the bell chime and gave the usual greeting to whatever customers may come.
“It’s just me,” Marinette called back to her.
“Marinette?” her mother asked “I thought you were upstairs?”
“Uh, I was!” she answered quickly. “I was out on the roof, actually! There was an Akuma attack, and Ladybug came by to get me out of the way. But I did run into a friend on the way back, so we’re just going to go back up to my room!”
“Alright,” she said. “I’ll bring snacks up for you and Alya in a bit.”
               “It’s not Alya,” she said.
Her mother paused, looking over at the two girls. Chloé gave an awkward wave. Madame Cheng gave Marinette a look that said one word: ‘what?’.
“She’s trying to be a better person?” Marinette offered.
“And I’m doing such a wonderful job,” Chloé muttered to herself.
“It’s a work in progress,” she said.
“Alright,” Madame Cheng agreed, giving her another look. The message was clear. ‘I’ll trust you, but if this is a trick, you don’t want to know the consequences.’
“Er, before we go up,” Chloé began, swallowing the fear that look gave her. “I wanted to apologize. Because I know Marinette has probably complained about all the things I’ve done, and you’ve probably seen some of that too, like- Oh stars I just remembered the screaming match at Christmas. Again, sorry. Also, your pastries and stuff are really amazing. As in, even though I was fighting with Marinette I still made sure Dad and I ordered from here because it’s so good.
“So, again,” she repeated, “Sorry for everything. And thanks for still letting me buy stuff here even though I was personally horrible to your daughter.”
“Thank you, dear,” Madame Cheng said. “And I’ll still be bringing snacks up for you girls. Do you have a favorite?”
“Everything here’s amazing,” she said, “But you had raspberry macaroons last time. Are you still selling them?”
“Of course,” she said. “Once Tom’s back from his delivery, I’ll be right up with a couple!”
Chloé sighed seeing the change in Madame Cheng’s mannerisms. She felt most of the tension leave the room. Marinette led her toward the door that led to the back. They had started up the stairs into the main house before Madame Cheng stopped them.
“Chloé, are you alright?” she asked.
               “Yes?” Chloé answered.
“What happened to your arm?” she asked.
Chloé gave a confused look before jumping to shocked realization. She held out her arm, twisting it a bit too far in an attempt to look at the back of it. She could barely see the red still on her jacket.
“I fell right before the Akuma attack,” Chloé explained. “I thought Ladybug’s powers had fixed that.”
“It looks as if whatever cut had been there was healed,” Madame Cheng said. “But I don’t think Ladybug fixed the tear or the blood it left. I can see if I can get that cleaned before it stains.”
“It’s alright, you have a shop to look after,” she said.
               “That’s alright,” she said.
Chloé relented and shrugged out of the jacket. Handing it over, Madame Cheng took the chance to inspect it closer.
“I might be able to fix this,” she said. “And I’m sure Marinette can sew up this tear. Hopefully it’ll be as good as new!”
“You don’t have to,” Chloé said. “But thanks.”
Another bell came from the front, and Madame Cheng excused herself. Marinette took the chance to drag Chloé up the stairs and into the living area.
The first thing she noticed was the warmth. It wasn’t like the warmth of the bakery downstairs. It was more like the Christmas Party at Adrien’s. The warmth of people, even though she and Marinette were the only people in the house at the moment. That wasn’t a feeling she was used to in a house. It felt weird.
Adrien’s house was too big for the amount of people in it. Maybe if it had the amount of staff that the hotel had. But there had only ever Adrien, his parents, the bodyguard, the assistant, and a chef or two. A cleaning crew came through once a week, but they never stayed more than that. The house had been even lonelier after Adrien’s mother had died.
Sabrina’s house, while smaller, was just as empty. Her father working late most days, her mother in England. The warmest she had seen Sabrina’s house was when she had spent the night, and Sabrina introduced Chloé to her mom during a videocall.
Then there was her own home. Chloé’s room had some warmth to it. It was her stuff, each with its’ own memories. But as soon as she stepped out of her room, it was just a hotel. It was a business. And each room was as impersonal as the next.
Marinette’s home, however, was full of warmth. The kitchen had lunch dishes drying in a rack. The couch in the living room was well-used, with one or two mystery stains on the armrests. There were pictures. So many pictures. Some were from this year, but there were earlier ones, ones of Marinette as a young tween, or even as a little kid. They weren’t the professional ones either. They were posed, but taken by someone with a cheap camera, and they were allowed to look silly or give dorky smiles.
Marinette’s room itself was an explosion of pink. Several pinks covered the room. Chloé was sure that if she looked around, she could find something he color of Alix’s hair. She smiled, spotting a pillow that looked like a good match. Then something else aught her attention. Many somethings.
“Well, if I had any doubt about your crush on Adrien,” Chloé laughed.
“Oh stars,” Marinette groaned. “You probably think that’s creepy. I swear I’m not some weird fangirl.”
“You’re talking to the girl who has a custom cosplay of you,” she deadpanned. “One that I regularly wear while dragging friends and staff into a big roleplay group. I’m pretty sure that’s creepier than a bunch of pictures.”
“Okay, but Ladybug is a hero,” she said. “That’s different.”
“And Adrien is a literal model,” she replied. “Keeping pictures of your crush is pretty standard, but Adrien has so many pictures of him floating around. It would be creepy if you were using your Ladybug powers to hang outside his room and take your own pictures, but anything where he knows he’s being photographed is fair game.”
“I guess,” she said. “Although, now you have more superheroes to add to the costume collection.
“I also have more friends to put in costumes too,” she laughed. “Of course I’ll still have the Ladybug costume, but you could have first pick of the others. You would look great as Chat Noir. I bet Adrien would love that. Think he’d make a good Vixen?”
Before Marinette could give a response, her phone started ringing. Chloé could see Alya’s picture on her phone screen. As Marinette hit the answer button, it sounded like the phone exploded.
"Can you believe this?!” Alya shouted from the other end.
“Volume!” Marinette chastised, holding the phone away from her face. “What happened?”
“Nino!” she shouted. “I asked him to record for the Ladyblog and-“
“Why couldn’t you record?” she asked.
“Not important!” she said. “But I asked him to do it since I couldn’t, and he up and bails on me! Just hands it off, hands my phone too by the way, to Aurore!”
               “Aurore Beauréal?” she asked.
“Yeah!” she said. “I mean, she was good. Figures, since she was almost Weather Girl she has some experience with reporting. She got great footage of Ladybug and Chat, the Akuma, and most importantly the new heroes, Jade Turtle and Vixen! She even got an interview with Vixen!”
“I bet that was difficult,” Chloé chuckled.
There was a pause on the other end.
“Was that Chloé?” Alya asked, her volume finally down to acceptable levels.
               “Yes,” Chloé answered.
“Are you alright?” she asked. “I saw you during the attack and you looked pretty bad.”
“Ladybug fixed me all up,” she said. “But thanks. And if you get another interview with the new heroes, can you thank them for me. You could even do some revenge flirting while you’re at it.”
“Okay, I’m not mad enough at Nino for revenge flirting,” she laughed. “Maybe if he drops the ball on recording a second time. But we did agree that superheroes are on the ‘if you get a chance, go for it and I won’t be mad’ list. Jade did look pretty cute. And you’re probably bored of how much I’ve said about Ladybug.”
“No flirting with Vixen?” she teased. “You could use her name as a pick-up line!”
“Been reading Chat Noir’s playbook, have you?” she laughed.
“Am I missing something?” Marinette asked, looking between Chloé and the phone.
               "Nope!” both of them answered.
“Anyway, I have to go,” Alya said. “See you tomorrow.”
               “Bye!” Marinette said.
The phone clicked off. Neither of them really had any idea what to say. Eventually, someone had to speak.
“How’d things go with Sabrina?” Marinette asked.
“Not well,” Chloé looked away. “We ended up in a screaming match in the library.”
               “What happened?” she asked.
“I-I told her I’ve been terrible,” she said. “That I’ve been purposely pushing her away and not even telling her about anything that matters to me. That I kept myself so closed off that she doesn’t even know me. She didn’t take it well. We started screaming, and then I ran out. And fell down the stairs into statue girl, who turned into an Akuma because I couldn’t watch where I was going.”
“You can’t blame yourself for that,” she said.
“I know I shouldn’t,” she sighed. “I don’t want to talk about this.’
“You don’t have to right now,” she agreed. “But I am here if you need it.”
Chloé looked around, trying to find something else to talk about. She saw the pictures again, reminding her of what they were talking about.
“So your crush on Adrien,” Chloé said. “How does that mix with Chat Noir?”
“What do you mean?” she asked, as if the redness in her face wasn’t a sign she knew.
“It’s pretty easy to see that you do have some feelings for your hero partner,” she said. “It’s different than how you are with Adrien. I think it’s because whatever happened with you and Adrien was quick, like lightning. But most of Paris has watched you and Chat slowly come to trust one another.”
“If I did like him,” she said. “It’s kind of impossible to do anything about it. It’s not like ‘Ladybug’ and ‘Chat Noir’ could just go out on dates.”
“In that case, go for Adrien,” she suggested. “You don’t have to tell him you’re Ladybug unless you have to. Just don’t cheat on him with Chat. Or you could always go for Chat, and tell one another who you are.”
Chloé smiled to herself at that. As if she could manage to cheat on him with himself.
“Wait, you’re telling me to go for Adrien or Chat?” Marinette asked.
“I’m not going to be overprotective of Adrien,” Chloé said. “Well, I am. Because if you break his heart I’ll break your soul. But I’m not going to be so overprotective that I’d stop you. Especially because I know you well enough to know you’re sincere.”
“No, I meant, just last week you said you liked me,” she said. “I’d have thought you would be trying to keep me for yourself.”
“First off,” she began, “Despite what my acting with Adrien might say, I’m not that jealous. Secondly, I don’t have much of a chance with you. By the time we’ve made up enough that you’d even consider dating me, who knows what would happen. Besides, my feelings toward you are in some weird limbo state anyway.”
               “Weird limbo state?” she asked.
“How do I explain it?” she wondered. “I was in love with you, back when we first met. Over time it settled down to just generic thoughts instead of a full crush due to me convincing both of us that I don’t have a chance with you. Then Ladybug appeared, and I fell in love again. When I learned that you’re Ladybug, it balanced out. I like you more than I did, but not a full on crush. I don’t know where it’ll go from here, but I’m not going to pretend that you’re ‘mine’.”
“Thanks?” she said. “I don’t know if ‘thanks’ is the right thing to say here. And if you do find someone else you like, I’d love to help set you up with them.”
               “Thanks,” she said.
Two weeks ago, if someone had told either of them that they would one day be friends and actually get along, they probably would have just stared at them before busting out into laughter. Now, here they were talking, doing things together.
They tried playing video games. Chloé surprised Marinette by being relatively good at Ultimate Mecha Strike III. Sure she didn’t beat her, but she held her own fairly well.
“How do you think Adrien got good at this game?” Chloé teased when Marinette gave her a dumbfounded look. “I was the only person who could play with him.”
There was a knock on the door to the room. Turning, the girls saw Marinette’s father popping his head in.
“Sorry to interrupt,” he said. “We need Marinette for a few orders. It’s getting a little hectic down here.”
“I’ll be down in a minute,” Marinette agreed.
He nodded and headed back down. Marinette turned to Chloé.
“You could always come down too,” Marinette offered. “We could teach you a few recipes.”
“I’’ll take the cooking lesson when they’re not going to be sold,” Chloé said. “I’ll stay up here with Tikki.”
She watched Marinette go down before relaxing for a moment. Tikki floated out of wherever she had been hiding when Marinette’s father came in.
“Can I talk to you about something?” Chloé asked.
               “Sure,” Tikki agreed.
“Is Marinette in trouble because I found out about Ladybug?” she asked.
“No,” she answered. “Thank you for being concerned though.”
“So, no consequences whatsoever for telling someone?” she asked.
“It depends on who you tell,” she said.
Chloé tilted her head in confusion. She waited for her to continue.
“The Miraculous have power,” Tikki explained. “Some people would take advantage of that.”
“More than just ‘superhero perks’?” Chloé asked.
“Yes,” she nodded. “The Ladybug Miraculous creates things, the Black Cat destroys. And wielding both can do a lot of things, even bring back the dead.”
“Really?” she asked. “People have speculated that Ladybug’s ‘fix-everything’ power could do that.”
“Only if it’s caused by another Miraculous,” she answered. “No one Miraculous is more powerful than another, so if it’s caused by one, either directly or indirectly, she can fix it. But if someone died because of something unrelated, it wouldn’t do anything.”
“So it’s true,” she said. “People online have been speculating that Hawkmoth had a Miraculous himself.”
“Yes, the Butterfly,” she confirmed. “If used correctly, the Butterfly creates Champions, it gives power to normal people to be near-invincible warriors by tapping into emotions of love and wanting to protect.”
“But he’s making monsters from pissed off kids,” she huffed, leaning back in the chair.  “How does a guy like that even get a Miraculous?”
Tikki was suddenly quiet. She looked sad, and wouldn’t meet her eyes.
“Are you not allowed to tell me?” Chloé asked.
“I can,” Tikki said. “Kwami are fairly honest, so if you ask, we’ll usually answer. Usually. Plagg, the Black Cat, can deflect with sarcasm, and Trixx, the Fox, might not answer as a trick. But unless I think you’re better off knowing, I’ll answer.”
“So if Marinette asked who Chat Noir is, you’d tell her?” she wondered.
               “Yes,” she answered.
“So you know who he is,” she said.
“Kwami can sense one another if we’re close by,” she said. “And it seems you know as well.”
“Figured him out on day one,” she said. “After him and Marinette, figuring out Vixen and Jade were easy. The hard part will be getting them to stop fighting, because they’ll probably be upset that the other won’t tell them where they disappeared to. And stars forbid there’s another Akuma and neither of them can record for the blog again.”
“Wayzz and Trixx,” she said. “The Turtle and Fox Kwami can help, if you get them alone.
               “And the Butterfly?” she asked.
“Nooroo,” she said. “There are more Miraculous, but those are the only ones active at the moment.”
“So, how did Hawkmoth end up with a Miraculous?” she asked.
               Tikki went quiet again.
“Would it be better if I didn’t know?” Chloé asked.
“In some ways,” she said. “But I can tell what I can. Usually, the Miraculous are held by a Guardian. The Guardian themselves was once a Miraculous Wielder, and chooses people to Wield the others. Usually.”
“So something went wrong,” she guessed.
“A while back, there were two heroes,” she said. “They were a lot quieter than Ladybug and Chat, becoming barely urban legend while fighting evil. The Peacock, and the Butterfly. They fought evil and fell in love, deciding to have a family and as normal a life as possible.
“And then, the Butterfly died,” she continued. “Not by fighting evil, but normal, human, circumstances. A car accident. When the Guardian went to collect the Butterfly Miraculous, the Peacock told him that it was lost. That she had either hidden it somewhere, or it got lost in the crash and picked up by someone who had no idea of what it was.”
“Do-do you think the Peacock guy might’ve lied?” she asked. “That he’s Hawkmoth?”
“We’re nearly sure of it,” she said. “But there’s more to it than just telling Ladybug to waltz up to his house.”
“A family, you said.” She recalled. “There’s a kid. And you have to think of a way to solve this without the kid losing another parent.”
               Tikki only nodded.
“Do you think he’s doing this for his wife?” Chloé asked. “Hawkmoth never said he wanted world domination. Do you think he’s trying to bring her back?”
“If it is him, probably,” Tikki confirmed.
“Would it-would it be bad for that to happen?” she asked. “Like, would she be a zombie or something?”
“Other than a magical burnout, both are physically fine,” she said. “But it’s not exactly the best thing.”
“Why not?” she demanded. “Wouldn’t it be great to be able to bring someone back?”
“Have you lost someone?” she asked. “Would you be able to bring yourself to do it?”
Chloé looked away, curling up into the chair. In theory, it sounded good. Bringing people back to life. People whose lives had been cut too short. And yet….
All she could think of was Felicia. Adrien’s mother. The woman who might as well be her mother as well, since her own had left years ago. It hadn’t yet been a full year since her death. All she could think of was how similar it was. A car crash. So random, and unpredictable, and there never really was any closure.
She could do it, if she wanted. She could grab Marinette’s earrings, and either steal Adrien’s ring or convince him of what she was doing. She could bring Felicia back. The possibility was so real, she could just do it. But now that the idea was real, she felt a pit in her stomach.
“No,” Chloé answered. “I don’t think I could.”
               “It’s okay,” Tikki said.
Tikki brought herself to the side of Chloé’s face. She could feel her radiating that same energy she had the other week, when she had begun to break down. It was calming, helped her breathe. Had she been crying? She wasn’t sure. Then again, she’d been crying a lot lately.
               “Thanks,” Chloé said.
“Look on the bright side,” Tikki said. “Now that I know you know about Chat Noir, we can bond by watching them be oblivious.”
“Oh my stars, that just hit me!” she laughed. “She likes him, but she also likes him? And he likes both of her! They’re their own love square! Oh my stars!
It took another twenty minutes before Marinette came back. Then another half hour for her mom to return Chloé’s jacket. Unfortunately, the stain hadn’t come out. Marinette offered to make her a new one, since it was Ladybug’s magic that failed to fix it. Chloé declined the offer, but appreciated the gesture. Though she had a sneaking suspicion that she’d make one anyway.
Marinette offered to let her stay over, even though they had school the next day. Chloé declined that too. As much as she wanted comfort, she usually liked being alone when upset. Or at least ‘able to leave’ when someone comforts her.
Eventually she called her father to be picked up. While he was confused at the fact that she was at the Dupain-Cheng bakery, he sounded happy that she was getting along with Marinette. He was also oddly forgiving about her broken phone.
Getting home, she felt exhausted. Still, she tried to stay up a little longer. She decided to pick out a new outfit for tomorrow, since she couldn’t wear her usual without the shoe or jacket. The outfit she chose still had the color scheme she liked. A black top with a white skirt and black shoes as well. The skirt had a little bee stitched into it, ‘flying’ around the hem.
Eventually, she couldn’t resist the Siren Song that was her bed. Grabbing her laptop, she pulled up her music. True to form, she pulled up Katie Hokulani’s ‘Light, Magic, and Love’. She tried singing along.
“It’s a long, long day, but you’ve got to find your way
And the world won’t let you fall
So take the Light, the Magic, and the Love
And keep on standing proud and tall”
She only got through two songs before she fell asleep. Thankfully, she didn’t have any dreams, and especially no nightmares about anything she feared would happen tomorrow.

Marinara on Maine (4 of ?) : Soggy Crust
A03 link
Saturday’s were surprisingly very slow for French Bread’s Pizza Parlor. The business usually got less than ten walk-ins and rarely any calls for delivery after 8:30.
It was because of this usual pace that Belle decided to leave early for a date with Mr. Gold. She had been using his car for deliveries for nearly two weeks, and subsequently unofficially dating him as well. Belle felt embarrassed to call their relationship that in such a way. Since he had lent her his car for the business, they had managed a few rendezvous but nothing longer than a twenty-minute lunch date in his shop.
Worse yet, their physical affection was starved. Other than the fiery kiss they shared on the night of the car explosion and a few quick pecks whist Belle was running off to deliver another order, they hadn’t kissed at all!
She was determined to change that. She was going to Gold’s shop at 7 and take them to a small casual Italian place just outside of Storybrooke. She would bury her phone if she had to so that they wouldn’t get interrupted.
She brought her change of clothes with her to the restaurant and Merlin had promised enthusiastically he’d close up shop.
“Red or blue scarf?” Belle inquired as she finished getting ready.
“Red.” Merlin suggested as he worked on inventory.
“No you will not!” Jefferson exclaimed as he jumped off the counter, snatching the offending cloth from Belle’s hands. “Blue’s the only color for you.” He shot back to Merlin. “Do you want them to break up!?”
Merlin rolled his eyes and closed the refrigerator.
Belle giggled and tied the scarf around her neck. With it she wore a sky-blue blouse with a brown skirt and burgundy tights. She rarely got to dress up and it was one of the few outfits she owned that didn’t have remnants of her work on it. She wanted to look good tonight, wanted to look like she belonged beside Mr. Gold rather than clashed against him. It always embarrassed her during the rare times they got to be in public together where she’d be in her work uniform and him in his well-tailored suit. He never said anything but Belle didn’t want to him to be mocked because his girlfriend had flour on her shirt.
“What time is it?” she asked for the tenth time that hour.
“Not 7 yet.” Merlin laughed. “We won’t let you be late.”
“I know I just…I really want things to go smooth tonight. We’ve been dating two weeks and we’ve hardly spent any time together.”
“You know, you can have more time off it you want.”
Belle sighed. “It’s my family’s business. I can’t leave it in your hands.”
“You work too much!” Jefferson called from the front of house. “I know it, your dad knows it, the whole town knows it!”
“I’m taking the night off, aren’t I?” she called back to him, leaning on one of the ovens to slip on her heels.
“You look great.” Merlin assured. “Why don’t you go ahead and head out? We have one more carryout and then we’re closing up shop for the night.”
“Take an umbrella.” Jefferson said as he finished sweeping the front. “Looks like a storm’s coming in.”
Belle felt worry twist in her gut. While she loved the rain, she hated thunder and lightning with a passion. She hoped it stayed calm until they at least got to the restaurant.
“Okay, see you guys Monday!” she yelled as she grabbed her purse and looked for the keys to Mr. Gold’s Cadillac. Just as she found them, a sleek black car pulled up and a familiar figure stepped from the passenger seat.
“Gold!” Belle cheered, balancing herself in her heels so that she could wrap her arms around his neck and kiss his cheek.
“Thought I’d meet you halfway.” He winked. “Second date and all.”
She laughed and pecked his lips. “Yes it is.”
“I’ll see you on Monday, Mr. Gold.” The towering driver of the car disclosed, nodding politely at Belle.
“Goodnight Dove.”
The couple watched the tall man duck carefully back into the car and drive off.
“Ready to go?” Mr. Gold inquired as soon as he was gone.
“Oh yeah! Do you want to drive or-”
“Belle!” Merlin called out the door. “Hold tight a second!”
Belle felt a brief wave of panic roll through her. Mr. French and Will were off today, were they okay? Before the thoughts could get more sinister, Jefferson came trotting out with a pizza box, turning sheepishly to Mr. Gold.
“Hey Mr. Gold!” he greeted with a nervous chuckle. “Sorry about the whole attempting to burn you in the car thing two weeks back.”
Mr. Gold smiled humorlessly at his apology. Belle had told him about how Will and Jefferson had been willing to set the former French Bread car alight after they jumped to the conclusion that Belle had killed him. Though he had found it a bit disturbing that the men who handled his food on many occasions were willing to commit cold-blooded murder, he was grateful Belle had such dedicated friends on her side.
“Jeff,” Belle cut back in. “why is there a pizza in your hands?”
Jefferson smiled sheepishly. “Our carryout changed it to a delivery at the last minute.”
“No!” Belle protested. “Not going to happen. I’ve been planning this all week and there is no way I’m wasting anymore time!”
“Belle, it’s okay.” Mr. Gold reassured gently.
“No it’s not!” Belle interjected. “I can’t keep doing this to you. I know you say you don’t mind but eventually you will and then we’re going to have a big mess on our hands!”
Gold clasped her dancing hands. “I made this deal with you Belle. Not just for your business, but so that I could see you every day, even if it’s just for a moment.”
“Yeah but…”
“And what was your affix to the deal? That I would ride along with you one in a while? Looks like today is that day.”
Belle scoffed and pressed a kiss to her lips. “How did I get so lucky?”
Mr. Gold pulled from her lips, dazed. “I’m the lucky one.”
“And I’m confused but oddly turned on.”
Belle and Gold turned back to the forgotten Jefferson.
“What’s the address?” Belle inquired as she took the pizza from him with a glower.
“It’s that guest mansion on Madison Lane, the one that writer from Boston is renting for the summer. I forget his name…”
“Isaac Heller?” Belle gasped.
“Heller.” Gold mused. “Why is that name so familiar?”
“He wrote that fantasy novel Heroes and Villains.” Belle explained as she put the pizza in the insulation bag and buckled it carefully into the back seat. Overhead, a mass of dark clouds were rolling in. Thunder barked distantly and Belle a chill go up her spine.
“Ah!” Mr. Gold nodded as he turned the car and windshield wipers on. “I think Bae read it when it made the Times list. Don’t remember him getting too excited about it however.”
Belle waved a smirking Jefferson off and climbed into the driver’s seat. “There wasn’t much of it to get excited about.” Belle sighed as she adjusted the heat.
Gold faked-scoffed and gave her an appalled glance. “Belle French bad-talking a book?” I never thought I’d see the day!”
Belle laughed and smacked his arm playfully. “It wasn’t necessarily a bad book. It’s just…what started out as a simple plot turned into a void of underdeveloped characters and plot holes that just went on forever.”
“Sounds like an overcomplicated mess.”
“Indeed.”
As soon as he finished his sentence, fat droplets of rain began to pound against the windshield and Belle slowed her driving.
“Don’t get nervous.” Gold warned as the rain increased.
“I’m not, just don’t distract me.” Belle mumbled as she tried to navigate through the sheet was water. She clenched harder on the steering wheel, trying to keep her nervous feet steady.
“Belle, just turn over.” Gold ordered after a moment. “I can’t even tell if we’re still in town.”
“I can see the road.” Belle protested, her heart beating just as loud as the rain. “We’ll be fine.”
“Belle please!” Gold pleaded.
Belle hesitated before easing on brakes and edging onto the side of the road. At least she thought it was the road. One second there was ground under the wheels and the next the Cadillac was flying off the side of the road.
Belle and Gold screamed as they flew down through the air, the only thing keeping them from flipping was the slick, muddy slope that they finally landed on, sliding through the trees until they finally crashed.
Belle?
Belle!
Belle didn’t want to listen to the voice. All she wanted to do was sleep.
Belle please wake up!
Wait, was that Gold? Why did he sound so scared?
She forced herself to come out of the foggy darkness. She felt pain and cold all around her, but finding Gold was more important.
Her vision began to clear and the look of pain and horror on Mr. Gold’s intensified.
“Oh Belle, thank God! Can you hear me sweetheart?”
She tried to nod her head or speak but she only had the strength to blink.
“Okay, don’t move Belle. Just stay still and try to stay awake, I’m going to try and call for help.”
She watched him struggle to get out of the car. The vehicle was nearly on its side and the door slammed in her face as he crawled out of the passenger seat.
Now in her silent aloneness, she could attempt to pull together where she was and what was happening. She was in the car—the car she crashed—and Mr. Gold was struggling to get help for that mistake. From what she could see through the rain-coated window, they were deep in the woods, far away from the town and help they needed.
She wanted to rise from her seat and help Mr. Gold, apologize for yet again inconveniencing him but she couldn’t move.
She literally could not move.
She could blink and even felt her eye twitch but she couldn’t lift her head from the steering wheel or move her arms or legs. She wasn’t in pain or even very uncomfortable. She was just numb.
She could hear Mr. Gold’s frantic voice just behind the car. He was okay and getting help. Knowing this kept her calm.
And helped her fall asleep when the painless cloud of exhaustion flooded her senses once more.

Day 32
Day 32 Sunday, January 15 My last day in India! I'm sitting here in the Baker Street bakery--you know, the one that seems so out of place. But, I think it's most appropriate. India is a country of contradictions . . . and this cafe is a prime example, as I mentioned earlier. It truly is a "fast-food" bakery/confectionery. The croissants are great though the coffee is mediocre. I'm not sure where the "baking" part of this place is. Every time I'm here, I see guys carrying in huge trays of food--it must be prepared elsewhere in some huge kitchen and transported here. Maybe it's in a basement nearby because I never see a delivery truck. The place really resembles a European/big city slick modern bakery--croissants, loaves of bread, varieties of sandwiches, mini-quiches, macaroons, chocolates, and gelato. But the kitchen in the back is really small--just for making coffee, juices, milkshakes, and heating up dishes. No baking going on back there. I think I got the next to the last croissant this morning--then again, it is 11:13 in the morning. It's still good, but I don't think it was made today. And, sure enough, just as I was about to leave, a young man delivered another tray of croissants. Maybe I should've waited another twenty minutes. Before the bakery, I spent the better part of the morning finishing the packing. No, there's not one spare inch anywhere in my baggage. Everything else purchased today must be consumed, injected or thrown away. (Besides, I have to keep some cash for the 4-hour taxi ride to the airport). It was an absolutely miserable night! Some dog in the neighborhood (sounding like it was right across the narrow one-lane street) barked the entire night--almost. And, since there's not just one dog in town, every other dog in a ten block radius had to respond. I tried earplugs--only muffled the barking. Then, somewhere around 4:00, the electricity went off--which, of course, stopped the ceiling fan. I haven't been using the A/C unit very much. It's not particularly effective and it does use up lots of power. And the fan is quite comfortable--while providing sort of "white noise" to drown out the other sounds of the night--though not powerful enough to drown out the canine chorus. But, with no fan, there was no white noise, no airflow, no comfort. Around that time, the dogs stopped barking, so I thought opening the window would be my best option--but, since there are no screens on the windows, I ran the risk of offering up my body willingly to all passing mosquitoes. But, it was stifling in the room and I opted to open the shutters. Big mistake! Dogs started barking again so I put the ear plugs back in. Then I started hearing the buzzing of the mosquitoes--through the ear plugs. Figured I could live easier with no air rather than swollen and itching appendages on two 10-hour flights. I closed the shutters and fought off the remaining bloodsuckers. The dogs continued their barking for at least another hour. Then, they stopped. Then, it started to rain (the very first rain since I've been in India). Then, the dogs started barking at the rain. Somewhere in all that . . . I fell asleep again . . . I think . . . Woke again around 7 to the barking and decided to stop fighting it and just start my day. The electricity did not return until close to 9. **************** Day 32.1 Ok, now I'm sitting in a rooftop cafe having a lemon soda. It's a branch of the Gelato Factory. And, it's right next to the Indianostrum Theatre where we worked through the "sequence" the other day. I had made my way from Baker Street down to the beach--by way of an art gallery (no, I didn't purchase anything, though tempted!)--and then went inland a couple of streets. The rain last night cleared some of the dust in the air, but it didn't necessarily cool anything off. In the direct sun, it's a little sweaty out there. In the shade, it's just perfect--hence, I stopped in, under the shade, to find the right breeze and a cool drink. I'm meeting Sara for lunch in the few minutes, so no sense in eating anything at the moment. Pondi is a very "French" destination in Southern India. Most of the foreigners I've run across are either Brits or French--specifically, French ex-pats. This city used to be a French post/port--so there is a small part of town called the French Quarter--or White Town. The other portion of the city is called Black Town. Certainly "colonialism" continues to thrive here. But, this is why the inner city has a very distinctive European feel. My housemates at the Blue Mangos are from France--they're spending a month and a half here to escape the cold French winter. So, Pondicherry, or Puducherry, is definitely a contradiction to other parts of India I've seen. Met Sara at 1:00 and we sauntered off for lunch. The first place we tried was a new one for us--Rendezvous. However, today has been declared "No Booze Sunday" here in Pondi, so no place was going to have an open bar. However, we had discovered one place (thanks to Rick) who served their beer in a "coffee mug"--with good Indian food--so we thought we'd try our chances. Success!!! And, I DID have Indian food--it was actually quite good, although Sara had to order extra chilies because our taste thermostats are obviously at polar opposites. Good food, good beer, good conversation, great friend! Following, we had to make a return trip to the Indian Coffee Co. for one last superb cup of coffee. And from there, we said our goodbyes--me for the States in a few hours and she to Mumbai in the morning. I still had a few hours before my driver collected me. Let's go to the craft fair. The craft fair was still going on across from the Gandhi statue on the beach, so, of course, I had to go take a peek. The organizers had created a maze in which you entered on one side of the temporary structure and emerged on the other side. Once you entered, you couldn't move backwards--the throngs were too massive. If you saw something you wanted, you had to continue going through the entire maze of shop stalls to get OUT and then go IN, again. Either that, or you hoped someone down the path had something better in their little shop than what you just passed up. If you paused too long, you could be dragged into a sales pitch. I actually paused, ever so slightly, and looked at a particular wall tapestry just a little too long when a salesman had their hand on my shoulder. And as I moved away along with the creeping trail of gawking humanity, his hand continued down my arm until we were actually holding hands. It could have been quite romantic, I suppose. But I wasn't there to BUY anything--or get involved! I had to say, "No!" AND, as I turned the corner, my eyes flashed! My pulse quickened and my breathing became irregular. Shadow puppets!!!! Ok, so I ended up buying something, after all--it lays totally flat in my backpack, so I get to keep it--three small shadow puppets, Krishna, Ganesh and Hanuman. Bit disappointed in the fair . . . there really weren't many crafty things . . . though the selection of stuff varied from lamp shades to toy xylophones. Nothing I couldn't live without . . . except the puppets, naturally. After barely a half hour of one-lane shopping, I dropped off my scooter. My scooter guy is really quite cool--he stopped his conversation with other potential customers to ask if there were any problems and was genuinely pleased when I reported no problems whatsoever and that I'd had a great time. If you're heading to Pondi and you want to rent a scooter for the day/week/month--I have his card. Walked back to my guest house to collect my luggage before my driver comes in about an hour. Will finish this for now and post--so everyone knows I'm on the move again.

Dear readers, If you would like to get access to a natural fat loss program that helps burn belly fat, tones down your hip, thigh, and reduces excess weight without going to the gym, diets, and without any side effects…
then this will be the most important message you will read this year.
First things first, let me introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Rita, 47 years old, currently living in Garki, Abuja.
Some months back, I used to be really overweight and went to gym twice a week, did keto diets and several diet plans you must have heard of.
I kept making my diet stricter and stricter, excluding meat, bread, fries, and sweets. I ended up eating fruits and vegetables and drinking nothing but water. I tried some terribly expensive weight loss teas and patches but nothing seemed to work for me. After a while, the lost weight would come back to my exhausted body.
Neither diets nor exercises help, they are just a rip-off!
Working out is too hard and takes too long to see any progress.
After trying different useless methods of losing weight, spending hours in the gym and thousands of money paid to the personal instructor I gave up completely.

Garki woman gives away easy way to Get Rid of unwanted fat, lose 17kg and burn off belly fat in few weeks without diet pills or exercise
One day I came in contact with a old time friend, now a health researcher that told me about the Fat Blaster Max Program. I decided to try it even though I was skeptical. But having tried everything and getting desperate I had no choice!
Besides, I checked the reviews and they were impressive indeed!
Thousands of women in Nigeria got rid of their extra pounds thanks to this product. According to the research, 96.7% lost 12-17 kg in 2 -3 weeks!
I started using the Fat Blaster Max package, I read the instructions and started taking 2 cups daily, before my breakfast and before light supper.
Results
After only 7 days, my results were stunning – I lost 4 kg! The puffiness was gone and my complexion got much better!
The hips and belly became notably smaller – and my mood became better! I started to believe I could become beautiful again without any dieting or exercising!
So, I continued eating everything I wanted! I was too sick and tired of starving and working out…
By the end of the third week, I lost another 12 kg! I became more fit and that inspired me to climb the stairs instead of using elevator every time. What seemed to be a tough workout became an easy pleasure for me!
I couldn’t believe it happened just because I was following those simple instructions on the Fat Blaster package!
The best part is that it requires:
No food restrictions – no stresses!
No strict diet – no breakdowns!
No Taking of Pills That dont even work
No Spending countless hours in the gym sweating out and getting no result!
The Fat Blaster Package will help you achieve Natural weight loss and the result remains with you forever!
Trust me its more than 3 months now I have lost over 37 kg of unwanted fat. Gotten back my beautiful shape with so much energy.
My friends and family were in shock and awe, so they bombarded me with all the questions as they were surprised about how I could lose so much fat within a short period of time. I honestly told everyone about what happened, and how I used the Fat Blaster package that worked tremendously for me.
So because I have used this and it has worked for me, I want to help other women like me get similar result. That’s why for the next few days only, I’m introducing…
