sometimes i hate my line of work because i see people who have $800k boats and second homes worth millions and it just makes me bitter

it surprises me how far people will go to dig for an excuse for their wrongdoings. there’s an entire spectrum of “bad things” a person could possibly do and where the thing lands in that spectrum determines the course of action needed to redeem yourself. if it’s even possible. say the spectrum is from a white lie to murder—hypothetically of course— the latter would be quite an unforgivable action. but if it were just a white lie, there’s an easy way to make it better. yet there are some people who will simply give an excuse, or even dismiss it, instead of simply taking accountability.

i cannot understand how people who do wrong don’t want to fix themselves. it’s logically sound why they wouldn’t want to, but it is quite confusing. when i personally make a mistake my first thought is to fix it, and to move forward. how is that so foreign to people?
