Alhaitham & Kaveh drabble | light angst
It's a quiet Friday night. Kaveh is draped over the back of the sofa, transfixed on his sleeping roommate’s face.
The dim glow of the crystal lamp dusts a soft yellow glow across Haitham’s face. Even in his sleep, he is largely expressionless, save for the occasional movement under his eyelids and the briefest twitch of his brow. His book rests on his chest with his finger still between the pages of where he’d stopped before sleep stole him away.
Despite his alcohol-hazy and fatigue-fogged mind, Kaveh recognises the title as one of Haitham’s newest reads, picked up at the start of the week- amongst three other titles. Was he a speed-reader? How many words did he capture at a glance? Kaveh wonders, when Haitham reads, if pictures form in his mind, or are abstract ideas contained in the shape, weight, and sound of the words.
He touches his forehead with his fingertip, as though he can connect to his thoughts and reach somewhere beneath his stony facade. Alas, there is no way to read Haitham, no matter how hard he tries; He is a blueprint Kaveh may study ten thousand times, but never be able to figure it’s labyrinthine layers, always stuck at sharp angles and convoluted diagrams that lead to nowhere.
Kaveh’s eyes trace over Haitham’s lips, and his hand follows in its wake. His finger trails along his cupid’s bow, thumb sweeping over the swell of his bottom lip.
Kaveh bites down on his own lower lip, teeth worrying the already broken skin as an undeniable ache to press his own against Haitham’s blooms in his chest.
It’s a familiar feeling, one that has not surfaced for a long time- deadened by the belief that Haitham did not see him as anything more than a broken bird he saved out of pity; the snuffed out Light of Kshahrewar now crawling in soot and ashes.
Albeit this, the old flame flickers to life in his chest, weak but alight. And it is that which forces him over the edge of the sofa, leaning in as close as he dares to. A lock of hair comes loose from his ponytail and it gently sweeps across Haitham’s cheek. His trembling fingers are digging into the sofa seat and he struggles to balance on the balls of his feet.
Without warning, Haitham stretches, his eyes fluttering open in slow blinks. Kaveh falters and fails to recover in time, and he teeters over the sofa.
A series of grunts and curses and more groans follow as Haitham is pinned under him and tries to get Kaveh’s elbow off his chest.
“What the hell are you doing?” Haitham hisses, struggling to breathe with Kaveh’s knee still on his stomach.
“Shit, sorry,” Kaveh mumbles, scrambling to get off but his limbs have turned to jelly and he’s not doing much except fall over Haitham again.
“Stop moving,” Haitham tries to grab him by the elbows but Kaveh isn’t listening and accidentally knees Haitham in the groin. Haitham hisses with a low curse and tightens his grip on him. “Stop,” he growls, the flash of irritation in his tone reflecting in his eyes.
Kaveh’s tongue turns to stone and all he can manage is wordless gaping. He’s perched atop Haitham and straddling his lap, and Kaveh’s cheeks grow hot at the realisation, but he’s bound by that single word that forces him to remain obediently still. “Sorry,” is all he can manage.
Haitham breathes sharply, brows furrowed while he regains his composure. “If it’s that game where you try to walk the shortest possible distance from the door to your room, I swear-”
“Can I go now?” Kaveh asks, vaguely aware of how distant his voice sounds form his body- disembodied, he recalls the word to be- his mind is elsewhere too, trying to distract from how close they are. His heartbeat pounds in his ears and all he can feel is that warmth radiating from beneath him, separated only by a few layers of fabric.
Kaveh manages to stand, swaying unsteadily even with Haitham’s help, before he quickly shuffles away from him. He’s halfway to his room when he realises his hair tie has come loose, and he glances over his shoulder to the sofa for it, but his mind goes blank when their eyes meet.
Haitham drops the hair tie in his hands on his way to his own room, but not before shooting him an odd look. When Kaveh refuses to meet his gaze, however, he eventually bids him goodnight and disappears behind his door.
Kaveh grips the hair tie in a death grip, teeth worrying his lip as he wills himself not to cry. What had compelled him to attempt a kiss of all things, he could not fathom- least of all Haitham’s serious lack of reaction. Had he actually read him wrong this whole time, or was it just in his head?
His colleagues often touted liquid courage as a supposed help with matters such as these, but perhaps it was that Kaveh lacked any at all in the first place.

a/n: inspired by @danijaci's jealous jealous boy comic with alhaitham! hi dani if you're reading this pls don't perceive me... hides... but i hope you all like it :,)
Tumblr media
Alhaitham isn’t jealous.
The uncomfortable feeling obstructing itself in his throat is just because he’s beginning to develop a sore throat- that’s all. It is flu season after all, who knows what kind of bacteria are in the air? Ones capable of lathing an uncomfortable oil that burns inside his chest, the smog crowding its way into his heart, sickening him to his core as Alhaitham can’t help but eavesdrop on the conversation happening beside him.
“I’m free friday,” a voice besides you confirms.
“Okay!” you cheer, sounding a little too happy for Alhaitham’s liking. After all, it’s 9 am, who has this much energy in the morning? “lets do Friday then!”
“Sounds good, I’ll see you then. Bye Y/n.”
“Bye, see you!” Alhaitham watches from the corner of his eye as you wave to the random stranger you’ve decided to associate yourself with before finally taking the seat beside him with a sigh.
He doesn’t say anything to you, feeling your eyes glance at him expectantly as he stares stubbornly at the lecture board instead of acknowledging you or the jumble of feelings clogging up his diaphragm.
“Hello, you,” You lean over slightly, careful to not invade his personal space whilst waving at him, hoping to catch his attention. He glances at you, nodding in greeting before returning to his book, the pages and rows of words only fuelling his unease he suddenly felt. He doesn’t even know where he left off, the book’s events a blur in Alhaitham’s mind.
How bothersome. What’s happening to him?
“Talkative today, aren’t you?” Your tone is playful despite his cold attitude and Alhaitham sneaks another look in your direction, noting the way your lips curve upwards. “So, how are you?”
“I’m fine,” he murmurs, inserting a bookmark between the pages before slamming it shut, an indicator that you could keep conversing with him.
“Cool.” You tap your nails on the desks of the lecture hall. “Oh, I finished my essay the other day.”
“The one for your elective?”
You hum in agreement, “I hope I never get it back. Submitted it ten minutes before the due date.”
“You know you wouldn’t have been stressed over it if you just started it earlier-”
“I know, I know,” you huff, “spare your productivity lectures for another time, I’ll be needing them later in the semester.” The grey-haired shakes his head as you laugh, but his gaze returns to the front cover of his book as he solemnly thinks about the interaction you had with another man, right in front of him.
(What right did he have to see you smiling so earnestly like that?)
“Who was that?” Alhaitham coughs out, barely choking down his pride in time to make space for the question.
You murmur some guy’s name that he doesn’t bother to remember. “He’s a friend of mine in the same discussion group for this course and we decided to do the assignment together. He bumped into me on the way in so we were just planning when to meet to do the research.”
“Oh.” Your answer doesn’t calm the churning in Alhaitham’s gut. Not even one bit, in fact, it makes it worse.
But it’s not jealousy, Alhaitham doesn’t get jealous because he’s above petty feelings of inadequacy. He’s merely concerned for you, worried for your brainpower by the end of the project because your partner seems less-than-incompetent. If you’d picked someone like Alhaitham (or better yet, just picked Alhaitham), you would’ve aced the class without even blinking an eye.
(The two of you are friends, so why didn’t you pick him? It’s literally been proven that the two of you are compatible working together since you were both executives of Sumeru’s Cultural Society, and amidst all of the activities the club has run, you’ve collaborated many times to make each event run flawlessly. So why not him? Why would you pick another man over him?)
“You know you could have picked me, I wouldn’t mind working on the assignment with you,” he grumbles, words soft but very clear.
Alhaitham misses the way your eyes widen in shock as apologies scramble out of your mouth. “I’m sorry! I automatically assumed that you wanted to work on it by yourself. Next time I’ll ask you.”
The lecture begins before he could say anything in return and like a robot, he sets his thoughts aside and begins listening, notes document up and cursor blinking at the ready.
A mundane two hours pass by, one powerpoint slide after powerpoint slide before the lecture is finally over, much to your pleasure. Alhaitham notices the way you eagerly jump out of your seat to stretch, grabbing your bag. On the other hand, your grey-haired accomplice takes his time in packing up, forcing you to wait for him.
“Would you like to get some coffee before the meeting?” You ask.
“Sure, we can find a seat there and join it together,” he adds and you beam at him, expression bright and so enchanting that it makes him forget about all the perplexities he felt before the lecture.
The two of you make your way to one of the many campus cafés where you practically wrestled Alhaitham to stop him from paying for both your orders (losing in the end) before sitting at a booth, your laptop set up with a pair of Alhaitham’s earphones shared between you. The meeting begins to fill up with almost all committee members, even Kaveh, who resides in his room of his and Alhaitham’s shared flat. Upon noticing him, you go to text him, with the grey-haired peeking over your shoulder from time to time to see your conversation- not that he cares that much.
(Perhaps if Kaveh glanced up from his phone, then he’d see how close Alhaitham had gotten with you, breaching the distance that he prefers to keep around others. He’d also notice the headphone sharing despite how he generally tends to keep them out of anyone else’s hands.)
You’re tasked with the role of taking notes for the meeting since Alhaitham, in your opinion, is not at all a reliable scribe. His notes tend to just include vital information and never what everyone else needs to know, yet each time you scold him for it, his unbothered expression never falters, waving your complaints off with a shrug.
“Hey, Kaveh and I are going to go for lunch tomorrow after our classes. Care to join?” You ask, smiling at him hopefully as your messages with Kaveh sit open on your screen. Alhaitham doesn’t think twice before agreeing.
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
“It looks like it’s about to rain,” you murmur, pulling out a chair as Alhaitham and Kaveh take their seats opposite you.
“So it does,” Alhaitham notes, not caring to look too long out the window before returning his gaze to you. “You have an umbrella, right?”
“I, uh, didn’t think I needed one today.”
“Do you not check the weather before you leave?”
“Not everyone’s like you, Alhaitham.” Kaveh teases. “It’s no problem, Y/n, if it rains I can walk you back to your dorm.”
“Only if you are okay with it,” you insist, “I have no problem walking home in the rain. I love the rain.”
Alhaitham intervenes with a raise of his hand. “Nonsense, you’ll catch a cold. We’ll walk you home.”
A soft but genuine ‘thank you’ slips from your lips, neither of you wiser to the way Kaveh eyes his roommate suspiciously, not missing the use of ‘we’ in his sentence and the implications the collective pronoun has. For it meant that Alhaitham is willing to take precious time out of his day to perform an act for someone that he is not indebted to do. Not that Alhaitham is inherently selfish, per se, but he is a man of routine. He wakes up every morning and takes five minutes to scribble on his stupid whiteboard in the kitchen what he has to do for the day and strictly abides by it, not even straying two minutes off schedule.
Willingly volunteering his minutes? Kaveh finds that suspicious.
“So, how’s your architecture assignment, Kaveh?” You ask, breaking the blond from his daze whilst Alhaitham pours glasses of water for the table, starting with your cup.
“A nightmare,” he sighs, sinking into his chair. “I still have so much to do, you know my professor didn’t like my blueprint? How ridiculous! I hope that man steps in a puddle and wets his sock.”
The grey-haired pipes up with a remark. “I can’t wait for it to be done, our living room is a mess right now.”
“Hey, I am the one that cleans that living room, thank you very much. Your bookshelf is still a mess even though I’ve asked you to clean it five times.”
“If it bothers you so much then why don’t you do it yourself?”
“I’m the only one who-”
“-I’m going to go to the bathroom,” you murmur, cutting the conversation before shuffling out of your chair, seemingly eager to do so.
Kaveh turns to the grey-haired again, “and you just scared away Y/n.”
“Sorry no one wants to hear about your architecture project.”
“Y/n literally asked, asshole.”
A rebuttal sits on the tip of Alhaitham’s tongue- as it always does when it comes to bickering with his roommate, but it dies out when an intruder comes to the table. “Excuse me, I hate to interrupt,” he begins, “but the person who just got up, is that your friend?”
“Yeah, why do you ask?”
“Oh, I just wanted to drop this off, mind passing it over for me?” The piece of paper he was holding lands in Kaveh’s hand. “Thanks, bro.” Is all he says before strolling away, out of sight but definitely not out of mind.
The blond does not hesitate to open it up, chuckling in amusement when reading the content. “’Hey you’re cute, here’s my number’ it says. What a bitch! You didn’t like his vibes either, right, Alhaitham?”
“Hold on, what does the note say?”
Grabbing (snatching) it from Kaveh, the grey-haired has half a mind to rip the note apart, a certain sense of distaste washing over him that intensifies the long he stares at the guy’s handwriting. His eye is twitching. Why is his eye twitching?
“Hey!” He hears Kaveh call. “Don’t scrunch it, that’s Y/n’s-“
Alhaitham stuffs the ball of paper into his bag where he’ll recycle it later even though something irrational within him tells him to burn it. “Y/n won’t miss it. You said it yourself, he’s a bitch.”
“Sure, but why are you doing-“
“Hey!” You interrupt, sliding back into your chair with a grin on your face. “So, what did I miss?”
“Nothing,” the grey-haired murmurs, assuming his crossed-arm position. Kaveh side eyes his roommate before agreeing with a hum. “Let’s order something now. We want to beat the rain, right?”
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
This meeting for the Sumeru Society might have been one of the most important ones of the year thus far, with almost every committee member expected to attend. After all, the annual ball was a big event that always had the largest turnout, and the amount of planning that goes into it to ensure its success is almost triple that of its other events.
So why weren’t you here?
“Why did you leave the meeting early on Friday?” Alhaitham asks as soon as he sees you.
You pause briefly, eyes widening and eyebrows raising. It must have been the way that Alhaitham’s voice raised a pitch towards the end of the question, demonstrating a nervous break in character that was not at all typical. Cool and collected would be the defining words to describe Alhaitham, as well as someone who does not care for the menial activities of others, so what is he doing asking you? And why does he care so much?
“I, uh, had dinner with someone,” you confess, continuing to grab your books and laptop, missing the way his features contort into something un-cool, and very un-Alhaitham.
“Whom?”
You murmur the name of some other guy, who he vaguely recalls to be your project partner.
“What?” Alhaitham snaps.
“I didn’t think missing out on some of the meeting would be a big deal! I got another committee member to explain what I missed,” you justified. “Besides, there’s no big events going on right now, so I thought-”
“-That you could abandon your tasks and go have fun with someone else?”
Alhaitham’s not really sure why he said that. He’s not angry that you skipped a meeting; there are larger things in the world to worry about, he’s angry because you spent time with another guy that wasn’t him.Why not go to dinner with him instead? He spends it every night with Kaveh, and you are far more favourable than Kaveh.
“Is it really something to get mad over? I already told you, I got the meeting notes and everything-”
“-You’re an executive of the society, Y/n, more is expected from you.”
“Seriously?” you ask, “how come you didn’t bat an eye when the vice president wasn’t there the other day?”
“Because she was sick.”
“Okay, fine! what about the subcommittee? they’re not always there either!”
“They’re subcom. Whether they miss a meeting or not is not crucial.”
“So, it’s just my business that you care about?” You ask, eyebrows furrowed, disbelief clouding over your expression like a mask.
Again, Alhaitham doesn’t know where these punches are coming from and why he’s throwing them against you so viciously, but his heart is tightening defensively with a burning emotion that he’s been feeling more and more recently, and his first instinct is to lash out, to protect himself from it.
Perhaps it’s because foreign things that he can’t understand terrify him and you, all you ever do is make him feel things that he’s never felt before and he can’t understand why.
“You’re not that special.”
A flash of hurt gleams in your eyes and Alhaitham knows now that he’s royally fucked up. “You’re an ass,” you grumble, about to walk away when he intercepts.
“Listen to me!”
“Fuck off!”
“Y/n-”
You’re gone before he can get another word out, retreating figure stomping away whilst his chest weaves into knots; something that no amount of deep breathing can calm. It doesn’t help that the minute he returns home, Kaveh is onto him like some sort of parasite, curious over the tense air surrounding his normally-composed roommate.
“Hey, welcome home- whoa, what’s gotten into you?” The blond asks.
“None of your business,” Alhaitham grumbles through gritted teeth, taking his shoes off and throwing them aside haphazardly. Kaveh doesn’t miss the way Alhaitham’s jaw is clenched, or the strain in his hand when he brings up a hand to run through his hair, or the very subtle and minute twitch in his cheek.
The blond ignores all signs that he wants to be left alone, and instead, follows the grey-haired to his room after he swung the door open.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on, let’s talk about this-”
“Talk about what?” Alhaitham growls.
“Who pissed in your black coffee today?”
“No one. Now get lost.”
“Aw, come on, you know what they say. Getting things off your chest is always beneficial.”
“There’s nothing on my chest, go away.”
“You sure? no stress, no deadlines, no love interest making you tear your hair out-”
“-No, no, none of those!”
“Then what?”
Alhaitham steadies himself by resting his elbows on his thighs, hands clasped together as he exhales loudly. “I got pissed and took it out on Y/n, who’s mad at me now.”
“Huh? Why so annoyed?”
“Because Y/n went to dinner with another man.”
It’s silent for a while. The sassy quip that he expects from Kaveh does not happen. Instead, the blond merely smiles, a satisfied, knowing grin that slightly irks him. “You know, I’ve been waiting for the day you realise you have feelings for Y/n.”
“What? Where did you get that conclusion from?” Alhaitham sits up straighter. There are a lot of things he knows, and he knows for sure that he does not like you in any way beyond platonic. He doesn’t have any time to spare for love. There are scholarships he still needs to apply for, internships to be interviewed for, research projects to submit- nowhere amongst the minute hand of the clock is there space for love.
“Oh come on,” Kaveh sits down on the bed beside his roommate, leaning back on his hands. “You’re not as smooth as you hope to be sometimes.”
“I’m serious, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Y’know the sooner you accept you have feelings for Y/n, the easier life will be.”
“Life is already easy and there is no sooner because I don’t like Y/n like that. Now get lost. I have stuff I need to finish.”
Kaveh shrugs, standing up with a soft ‘suit yourself’, taking seven steps before he’s out of the room. Alhaitham lets out a sigh that has lodged itself in his throat for too long, and the feeling of reprieve he gets is short-lived before he’s flooded with a certain tightness again. Maybe he did have a weight on his chest after all, not that he’d ever admit it to himself or Kaveh.
He gets up from his made bed with a grunt and decides to push aside all distractions. Time is unforgiving, and if doesn’t finish his assignment by this Friday then he’ll be a little less than pleased.
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Alhaitham feels like he can’t breathe.
You’re sitting alone at a library desk, all focused and concentrated on your laptop screen with your headphones on, blocking out any outside voice as you type away. He wonders if he should say hi, maybe try apologising for the way he acted last Monday- who is this guy that’s approaching you and why does he look so familiar?
And why are you smiling so happily?
You beckon to the seat beside you and the guy readily complies, taking the chair beside you like he belonged there, like there weren’t other candidates that should be there instead (he’s not talking about himself. definitely not).
He hands you one of two coffee cups he’s holding. What kind of right does this guy have to give you a coffee? Does he even know your order?
He feels like a bit of creep keenly watching you interact with someone else from a balcony of the library, but the book and laptop in front of him lies forgotten, and in a rare moment of weakness, Alhaitham can’t find it in himself to return to his tasks, pursuit of knowledge momentarily forgotten. He can’t push aside the bile that threatens to rise, he can’t loosen his grip on the couch’s armrest, and he can’t blink for a second in fear of losing you from his sight.
(You’re laughing. Why are you laughing? How can you look so pretty laughing and why doesn’t he ever get to make you laugh like this?)
Alhaitham is losing his damn mind. So much so that the first thing he does when he sees you again is corner you.
“You shouldn’t talk to that guy anymore.”
You’re backed against the brick walls of the time-worn building that your shared lecture always takes place in, and Alhaitham, spotting you like a hawk, put you in this precarious position as soon as the two hours were over.
He can’t breathe. It’s been almost three weeks since you last spoke to him and you’re staring up at him like you’ve done nothing wrong, blinking once and twice at his uncharacteristic display of subtle aggression.
“Who?” you mutter, shaking your head to try and grasp reality once again. you hug your laptop closer to your body. “What’s this about?”
“I said you shouldn’t talk to that guy anymore.”
“What guy?”
“Your project partner.”
“Really?” you mutter in disbelief.
He nods, teal eyes shining at you firmly. “Really. The project’s over, you don’t need to talk to him anymore.”
“I don’t recall ever giving you the right to dictate who gets to be in my life or not, just like how you can’t tell me what to do with my time.”
“I’m looking out for you, so stop trying to make me sound tyrannical.”
Your mouth hangs open as you furrow your eyebrows, growing more and more frustrated with each second. So much for thinking that he wanted to resolve the awkwardness between the two of you. “I’m not even going to argue with you,” you murmur a quick ‘jerk’ under your breath before brushing past him.
Alhaitham, however, is not willing to let you go as easily as you wish, quick to chase after you. Not that you go far anyways, turning around to face him again in the spaciousness of the vacant hallway. “Why do you care?” You ask, exasperated. “You’re Alhaitham, you don’t let trivial things like who I hangout with bother you, you’re cool and collected and rational, and I just don’t understand why you’re acting like this.”
He doesn’t understand either, not the erratic beating of his heart, the stubbornness of his mind, nor this undisputable urge to keep you all to himself. Is it normal to want to hide someone for selfish reasons?
Trailing off, Alhaitham is slightly humiliated that for the first time in his life, someone has witnessed him coming short of an answer. No logical conclusion, no explanation, not even a satisfying quip, just plain, suffocating silence.
“Right. When you do have an answer, let me know.” You walk away.
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Your last rebuttal still weighs heavily on Alhaitham’s mind, even two days later as he and Kaveh are seated for a lecture in a shared course. His thoughts are scrambled like never before, the messiness of it all making him feel uneasy because for once, he doesn’t have an appropriate answer to a question.
Why was he acting like a temperamental teenager? What you did with your life was up to you, and indeed he has no right trying to change that. More importantly, why was it so hard to apologise for the stuff he said-
“So, how’s everything between you and Y/n?”
Kaveh turns to him with widened eyes whilst Alhaitham’s poker face doesn’t move an inch, deceivingly apathetic.
“Good, we’ve been hanging out a lot more recently,” the other guy says, who Alhaitham quickly recognises to be your project partner and distaste rises in his stomach like bile.
“Aye, good for you, man! So when are you going to ask Y/n out?”
“No way, bro, not yet. I’m such a wimp, but I hope I grow the balls to ask soon because I really like-”
“-looks like you got some competition!” The blond nudges Alhaitham, and if it were anyone else, they would not have glanced twice at the grey-haired who seemed unmoving and uninterested. However, Kaveh is not anyone else because he noticed the darkened look in Alhaitham’s eyes instantly, anger seeping into his composed gaze as his nose scrunches in disgust.
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
“So, you and Alhaitham still aren’t talking?” Kaveh asks, leaning on the table of the restaurant with curious ears, hoping that he can grab some answers out of you as to why there was a stalemate between you and his roommate.
“Nope,” you sigh.
“Why not?”
“I’m just-” you pinch the bridge of your nose, “I’m just waiting on an apology from him.”
“An apology? Why? What did he say?”
“He didn’t tell you?”
“You know how he is. Always insufferably secretive, so no, I don’t know anything that happened.”
“Alhaitham just said some hurtful things to me, and he was being weird when I told him I was going to dinner with a friend of mine. Just kept being in my business.”
“Really?” The architecture student quirks a brow, confusion plastered on his face. “That’s not like Alhaitham at all.”
“I know, right? He kept trying to be like ‘don’t hang out with him’ and ridiculed me for not playing my part as an executive of the Sumeru society,” you complained, “like sorry I have other things I want to do.”
Kaveh nods in understanding as the conversation briefly stops when the waiter comes to drop off utensils at your table. As soon as they were gone, however, you begin again.
“And even though he was all up in my business, trying to tell me what not to do, he then said that I wasn’t special, which is so confusing because like-”
“-hold on. Alhaitham said that you weren’t special?” You nod at his parroted claim. “To him?”
“Yeah. Stung like shit when he said that, especially since I thought we were friends but guess not,” you murmur sadly, fiddling with the fork.
Later that night, almost immediately after meeting you over dinner, Kaveh barges into his roommate’s room, not even changing out of his outside clothes. The sudden intrusion shocks Alhaitham who was busy typing on a document, textbook splayed open beneath him but momentarily forgotten as the blond takes a seat on the bed.
“What the- not even a hello?” The grey-haired asks, confused by this uncharacteristic silence of Kaveh’s. It’s pretty normal for the blond to barge into his room without notice, but it was not normal for him to be so quiet, practically brooding on the mattress. “Whatever. Where have you been? Have you eaten yet, because I made-”
“When will you just confess to Y/n?”
The mention of your name causes a spike in Alhaitham’s heartbeat and he swivels around instantly, attention fully directed towards his roommate. “Where is this coming from?”
“Y/n told me everything that happened between you two by the way-”
“-what, when?”
“Tonight, we just met for dinner.”
“And you didn’t tell me?”
“What would you have done if you knew? Showed up and made things worse?” He doesn’t say anything in retaliation, merely shutting his mouth and furrowing his eyebrows. “Why did you say that Y/n wasn’t special to you?”
“I didn’t,” Alhaitham sighs, very loud and very perplexed. “I didn’t mean for it to come out the way it did.”
“Don’t you miss Y/n? You two used to hangout so often.”
“I do, of course I do!” He exclaims, burrowing his face in his hands.
“So why aren’t you apologising?”
“Because whenever I’m around Y/n, I’m not who I normally am,” he mutters, “especially everything whenever that project partner is around-”
“Jealous, much?”
“I’m not jealous.”
“Oh come on, you’re ridiculous. Stop pushing away your feelings and just be honest with yourself, Alhaitham! Y/n is not just a friend to you and you know it.”
“But, we are just friends-”
“So you mean to tell me that if I hung out with someone else- like if I hung out with Cyno, you would be pissed?”
“What? No, of course not.”
“Then why is it different with Y/n?” Once again, Alhaitham doesn’t have an answer to the question, sitting as still as a statue hunched over his desk. “Fine, I’ll spell it out to you. You like Y/n, more than just a friend!”
The silence leftover from Kaveh’s outburst is tense and full as the grey-haired lets the words sink in.
“I’ll let you think about it,” the blond murmurs, voice softening dramatically as he stalks out of the room. Before he closes the door, however, he leaves a few final words. “Just- be honest with yourself, Alhaitham, and I wouldn’t delay trying to talk to Y/n.”
A sharp click rings through the room.
Alhaitham is no stranger to being alone, for who needs the company of others when you are happiest by yourself? Yet, in the weeks that you have not been speaking to him, a cardinal urge as been growing each and each day, wanting him to do something so atypical of him: to reach out and make the first move. Every passing day doesn’t lessen the thoughts that plague his mind, rather, they make him more and more impatient, because what if you get swept away by your project partner?
(What if he’ll be too late? What if you won’t know of these powerful emotions that are steering through the storm in his heart? What if you won’t know just how badly he was been wanting you- wanting to see you, wanting to apologise, wanting to see you beam at him like you always would.
What if you won’t know that he adores you, especially now that he’s figured it out?).
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
A rain droplet falls and lands on your nose, another lands on your forehead, then another lands on your lip then more and more keep falling from the cloudy sky, falling through the leaves and landing on the bench you were currently sitting on. Goodness, you should have checked the weather before leaving your dorm. Why was it now out of all times that it had to rain, what would Alhaitham think after he finally decided to reach out to talk?
Taking your phone out to message the grey-haired about relocating, an umbrella is suddenly held over you, stopping the gentle drizzle from falling onto you. Looking up, you’re greeted by a familiar face that you have been missing too much recently.
“Hello, you,” you breathe, voice gentle and quiet and Alhaitham feels like he can finally breathe after so long, the scent of rain washing away all perplexion.
He nods at you in greeting before offering you the bouquet of flowers he was holding. A gorgeous arrangement of pink of white stare prettily at you and a man even more gorgeous expects you to accept it.
“For me?” You ask.
“For you.”
“Thank you, they’re so beautiful,” you take his gift with gentle hands, holding it close to your chest.
“I want to apologise,” he firmly states, getting straight to the point; very Alhaitham of him. “For treating you the way I have been recently.”
You beam at him, so bright and so gorgeous that it renders him speechless, a feat pretty difficult when it comes to someone like Alhaitham who has a whole dictionary of words, in multiple languages too. Somehow, they all flock out of his mind the second you smile at him.
“I accept your apology, thank you for reaching out, must have been hard for someone like you, huh?” You tease, standing up from the bench.
“Well, I had do for someone as special as you.” The grey-haired’s voice is deceivingly confident and assured, but you know better, especially when he looks away to hide his expression with his neatly styled bangs.
“No need for the flattery, you know, I’ve already forgiven you.” There’s a moment of silence that occupies the air, caused by Alhaitham’s hesitation as he fishes his brain for the courage to ask you out. You speak before he can get a word out, however. “I got asked out the other day.”
“By your groupmate?”
“He has a name, you know, but, yeah. I rejected him, though,” you laugh awkwardly, almost like you were trying to cope with it by playing it off. “Did you know that he would do that?”
“Yes. I did.”
“Is that why you were so adamant on me not hanging out with him?”
“I guess you could say that. We can talk more about it another time,” he tells you, voice gentle and caring to mask the subtle hit of jealousy he feels in his chest, scolding himself for letting someone else confess to you before him. However, it’s a minute sensation in comparison to the triumph Alhaitham feels knowing that you rejected the other party.
“We have a lot to talk about, don’t we?”
“We do, but I want to ask you something first.”
You nod, hugging the bouquet closer to your chest, anticipation heavy in the air as you spur him to continue.
“If I asked you out, would you reject me too?”
A mere second passes by where you don’t respond, yet the second stretches out to what feels like eternity as Alhaitham’s stomach churns. Patience is something he doesn’t lack, but how can he be patient when his heart wants you so bad?
Then, you take his hand, and the heavens sing at the feeling of your hand in his. “I wouldn’t, but are you asking me out?”
“Are you free right now?”
“I am. Why?”
“Let’s go out then. On a date.”
“I'd love to.” You rise up to place a lingering kiss on his cheek, one that has his heart racing with joy rather than frustration.
The smile you earn is gentle, shy, but says more than Alhaitham's words ever can.

「 "𝐡𝐞𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫!"」
— in which you give him chocolates before he attempts to give you his??
— fluff. highschool!au but built like a shoujo manga lmao ... happy valentine's day ~ ♡ another fic will be going out tomorrow :)

Calling yourself a "romantic" person would be quite a stretch.
Saying Valentine's was your favorite day of the year would be even worse.
Sure, sure, you'd heard plenty of things, from the nagging old man manning the grocery store, always red in the face from regular swigs of cheap liquor, or the seemingly never endless musings from your classmates, swooning and fainting every moment anyone, or more specifically, the leads starring in those dramas of theirs, did anything remotely affectionate.
Young, innocent love, while a splendid thing, for someone like you, your really only option was to endlessly pine after someone who would certainly not return your affections.
The recipient of such foolish affections? That much was obvious. What a rather hopeless person, you were.
At the very least, he seemed to enjoy your presence. A smile would adorn his lips, and he'd always meet your gaze with his familiar greeting of, "Good morning, did you sleep well?"
Fuck, you hated how such a simple line, questioning of your wellbeing, could tug at your heartstrings so effortlessly. The man was playing you like a fiddle, and a part of you didn't try to resist that.
So the moment February 14th rolled itself around, bearing promises of youthful laughter, baby cupids, hearts, and sweets, you tried not to pay heed to the extra weight of chocolates in your school bag.
Had you stayed up late making them just the right sweetness, making sure they were perfectly heart-shaped?
Yes. As stated previously, you were truly hopeless.
"Ah, good morning." Wow, look at you, taking the initiative to greet someone? Truly, a day of magic and wonder! You're almost jump scared at the sight of him in your classroom, just what the fuck was he doing here? He leaned against the doorway, looking terribly pretty in the morning lighting.
This was not doing wonders to your heart.
Upon seeing you, he straightened his posture, looking suspiciously sheepish with an extra non-characteristic, flusteredness on his features. "You're here early today."
"It's Valentine's." That's all you managed to sputter out with that tied tongue of yours.
"Yes, and?" He raised an eyebrow questioningly, not entirely convinced, and followed you to your seat like some sort of lost puppy.
Your brain raced to find a rationale he'd deem reasonable. "Uhm, ah... my friend... is planning to confess to a guy, so I had to come early and help her... set up the place she's planning to do so at?"
"I see... ah," His eyes lit up like he had thought of something. "Are you free after school? We should meet up afterward, so you can tell me how it went...?"
"Yes!" You responded a little too quickly, and cussing yourself out in you head, you corrected it. "Ahem- yes, I'd like that." The burning feeling that arose on your face was starting to become too prominent to ignore.
He didn't seem to pay it any mind, and instead beamed in a close-eyed smile. "Perfect. Then, I'll see you?" You were to bid him goodbye, but he ran off before you could even utter a sound, leaving you rather dumbfounded, blank-faced and still feeling the tingling warmth on your cheeks.
Holy shit, is this my chance?? You’d made chocolates on the eensiest, weensiest off chance that you might grow bold enough to hand it to him, even if under the pretense of “as friends”, but with the violent way your heart was pounding in your chest, you didn’t think avoidance would be an option.
Ahaha, you were making a mistake, weren’t you?
Only one way to find out.
The rest of the day went by as predicted. Fanatic screams and a wave of crazed people chasing after the more popular figures of the school, throwing boxes of chocolates and bouquets of roses... hey, wasn't this a safety hazard? There were other screams too - but not of excitement, but terror as a man was crushed and trampled under a wave of love-sick girls chasing after the popular boy in class 2-A.
You just hoped that he wouldn't sue the school. The place was already cutting enough corners when it came to the monstrosity of cafeteria food.
The bell rang, signaling your freedom, and you massaged your shoulders with a sigh. You'd survived, somehow. As you stepped out the door, a ding from your phone alerted you with a text, and as you lit up the screen, the corner of your lips unconsciously turned upwards into a soft smile.
hot guy <3 - don't forget.
hot guy <3 - ill be waiting for you
Stepping into his classroom, you scanned your surroundings for the familiar sight of the man. Low and behold, there he was, sat upon, presumably, his desk, and staring out the window like some main character. You walked over, trying your best to disregard the clamminess of your fingers - or more specifically, the hand that was holding your homemade chocolates hidden safely(?) away behind your back. His features brightened at the sight of you, and he swung his legs, ushering you over to share the view with him.
"Sorry, did you wait long?" You sheepishly grinned as he scooted to the side to give you space to sit down next to him. As you did so, you were made painfully aware of how his body was still pressed up against yours. “I almost got trampled on my way here, not a pretty sight.”
“...Pretty sight?” He echoed his words, tilting his head as he pondered, the slightest curve of a smile tugging at his lips. “You?”
“W-What? No, I-” You cleared your throat before he could say another word, trying to dispel the blush on your features. Naturally, you failed to do so. “What kind of things are you saying now? Just who’d you learn that from?”
“Haa? What do you mean, learned? I just said the truth, that’s all…”
God, he was so adorable. This man had definitely run off with your heart.
Now or never, you supposed. Standing upwards abruptly, you pulled out the heart-shaped box of chocolates you’d been hiding behind your back the entire time, visibly trembling as you held it outwards.
“Will you be my valentine?”
It took him the count of three to respond, his eyes round and doe-like. He blinked rapidly, and then his cheeks flushed - not with his usual cheeriness, but a red that definitely spoke of flusteredness. “H-Hey, that's no fair…”
“...What?” Damn, was this your rejection? You had expected as much, but-
“I was supposed to give you chocolates first, y’know…”
And just like that, the familiar boy before you reached beside him into the darkly lit space and pulled out his own box of chocolates, lightly colored and wrapped beautifully in shimmering golden ribbon. “It took me so long to do this, and yet…”
“Holyfuckingshitwhat.” The curses flew from your mouth, condensed into a single word. “W- H- Y-You… You got chocolates for me?”
Now this was a first. Seeing his cheeks and tips of his ears all rosy, and seeing him all kicked-puppy-like. He nodded slowly, “Mhm… But, this is good too!”
He likes me.
He likes me.
He likes me.
Hoooooly shit.
“Ah, oh no, I didn’t give you an answer, did I?” His usually soft eyes now filled with panic. “Don't tell me I'm too late, I’ll be your valentine!”
The chocolates, surely, would be sweet. But the sensation of your lips meeting his, the undeniable warmth he bestowed upon you — it was sweeter than anything. ♡

my eyes keep going, why is that? woo
i can’t control it now, oh no
why is it only happening to me?
it’s getting complicated
then let me just make it simple
oh, you’re all I think about, yeah
── ➶-͙˚ ༘✶ ──
it's almost laughable how he can't take his eyes off of you, and it's like every part of him has hardwired itself to focus on you the moment you enter the room, so uncharacteristic of his usual self. how do you do it, having him wrapped around your finger? do you enjoy it? that you occupy his thoughts so much, that he wants so badly to envelop you in his warmth, to hold you in his arms and bask in your affection? that their dreams consist of you, you, you.
he thinks about you when he gets ready in the morning, wondering if you'd compliment the outfit he's wearing, which he definitely didn't spend time on choosing because he wanted to hear your praise, nope. totally. he thinks of you when he sees those damn plushies at some store you mentioned you like, when he catches a whiff of your perfume, immediately whipping his head to find you, only to wallow in his embarrassment when it was just someone else with your scent.
he thinks of you when you're brushing your fingertips against each other when reaching for a book in the library, when he's trying calm the lovesick look on his face when you speak to him about the most trivial things, the slight sheepish smile you give when you get a little too close to him when you meet near your university's local cafe — all while he can't stop looking at the way your lips curve and move to speak words of apology you want to say to him, then vehemently denying any accusations of the very obvious flush on his cheeks when pointed out, choosing to look away from you only to do the same thing just a moment after. you're truly all he's thinking about, hm?
maybe he'd tell you what he's longed to say for so long; for him to be the one who you can call yours, for him to love you right, love you till you're sick of it. and if he will, maybe then, he'd notice the way your cheeks heat up when you catch him staring, how your eyes light up just a little brighter when you're with him. maybe then, he'd notice the way you think about him all the time, too.

i love to get your attention, babe
yeah yeah, what I need is only you, baby
tell me you feel the same
don’t pretend to hide it
i love to feel the attraction, babe
yeah yeah, what I need is only you, baby
stop trying so hard to hide it
just say what’s right now
out and proud when showing his care for you, enjoying the way he can make you fluster and be at a loss for words — he enjoys being the sole captor of your attention, and it's only a matter of time before he seals the deal. you two might as well be dating anyway, and all your friends have already begun speculating when you two were really going to be official.
everyone knows you two are so horribly in love with each other that it's almost pitying seeing him starved for your affection. bouquets of flowers addressed to your name near your dorm, casually leaning his head on your shoulder when you two sit next to each other and leaving on that ambiguously self-assured and sincere smile of his that always makes your knees weak and a flaming blush make way towards your face.
loving him feels like a refreshing breeze of air, a sparky and warm feeling whenever he sneaks in just a bit closer to you when you're sitting next to each other in lectures; when he's so pliant for even a sliver of your time. he looks at you like you colored the skies and the world, and it's only a matter of time before your already thinly veiled facade of embarrassment wears away and he can finally call you his, and for you to call him yours, as well. and now, with your lips almost touching when you're lumped together in a crowded room, his normally affectionate self losing before the sight of your lips so close to his, before his mouth moves and he leans in….
— CHILDE, ayato, heizou, VENTI, kazuha, WRIOTHESLEY.
── ➶-͙˚ ༘✶ ──
i know you love me back even without saying it
oh, I know you love me back even without showing it
maybe you don’t love me back
this trembling feeling feels so high
just let me tell you
secure, calm, assured. that's everything to describe your relationship with him. it's as if the spot by your side has been specifically designated for him due to how easy it is to meld himself in the tapestry of your life. his love for you is steady and yet unrelenting; it bleeds into your everyday routine unassumingly that you don't even notice just how much they desire you — how his heart makes a steady thump against his ribcage whenever he tutors you while at the study hall, with how he treats you to meals at anywhere you want; how he would hang onto everyword with all the piety of a simple man who aches to be with you. with you scooting closer to him to listen, or when his friends and yours joke around saying that you two are married. there is no denial nor confirmation, for there was no need to establish something already so obvious, despite the lack of admittance.
it's the ultimate form of trust, the peak of affection to know that he has your heart, and that his own is safe with you. the confession is up and rearing, and you only need to ask the question of the nature of your bond, and he wouldn't hesitate, wouldn't even think twice of reminding you of the fact you've already known to be true many times now. the fact that he loves you, and that when you would say the words of confirmation that'll make heart soar — the 'i love you too' on your lips will be silenced by his own kiss, a silent exchange of adoration he imparts on you.

-> alhaitham having a crush on kaveh's s/o
alhaitham (pining) × reader × kaveh
angst! mainly from Alhaitham's pov, slightly suggestive at a certain part, not really proofread
Tumblr media
You often visited Alhaitham's home to see Kaveh. Most times, you'd arrive there earlier than your boyfriend, waiting for him to come. This would mean that you'd frequently end up being alone with Alhaitham.
If it was anyone else, Kaveh wouldn't like this at all. He wouldn't like you hanging around another man all by yourself, especially in said man's own home. (Not because he didn't trust you, but he wouldn't trust the other to keep his hands to himself)
But this was Alhaitham we were talking about. Kaveh didn't think he'd need to be worried as the Scribe was too busy and had more important matters to attend to than to be interested in such things as attraction.
That's what Alhaitham had thought too.
You initially weren't a bother. In fact, you were much more pleasant to be around in comparison to his roomate.
You were polite and would mind your manners inside Alhaitham's home. You never spoke incessantly, but when you did, it was about one of the books that had caught your eye on Alhaitham's shelf. That book was one of his favorites. So apparently, you had good taste as well.
Reading through more of his books as you waited, you would often initiate conversations with him about them, and surprisingly, he wouldn't mind at all. It was rare for Alhaitham to willingly participate in long conversations as it was rare to find people as like-minded as he was. Such as you. You understood him in a way many could not.
He was getting used to your presence. Heck, he desired your presence. And he yearned for it so much with each passing day that he would begin to lay out the books he wanted to recommend and wanted to discuss with you as well as prepare tea for your arrival.
He would wait with great anticipation, his eyes frequently darting from the clock to the front door. There was so much that he wanted to talk about with that beautiful mind of yours, knowing that the sound of your wonderful voice filling his home would make his day better.
Wasn't it funny? That he waited for you just as you would wait for your own lover? What was he doing, getting so excited over you? Wanting to know more of you? Especially when the latter part of the day would always end up pissing him off–
The part where Kaveh finally arrives.
It irritated him each time you would run into Kaveh’s arms once he was at the door, along with a quick peck on his lips.
It irritated him when all you could see was Kaveh, when all your attention was on him and Alhaitham was out of the picture.
It irritated him seeing you two go into the other room and hearing the faint conversations and laughter you'd share. And the worst part of it all: when he would hear your sweet giggles suddenly turn into silence and are soon replaced by soft sighs and breathless panting, trying to keep quiet as if Alhaitham couldn't hear such sounds already.
Again, he had to ask himself, why? Why did all of this boil his blood the way it did? Was it because he had always hated such awful displays of affection? Was it because it disturbed the peace in his household? or was it because…
…he was jealous of Kaveh?
No. Absolutely not, he'd attempt to convince himself.
How could Alhaitham be jealous when he was the one who had a home. He was the one who didn't have extreme debts to pay. He was the one who was wise beyond his years and who didn't get swept up by his emotions. He was even the one who was the Grand Acting Sage of the Akademiya for crying out loud.
But Kaveh was the one who had you.
He had your time, your dear affection, your tender touch, your charming mind, and most of all, he had your love.
Pfft.
Love.
The fact that Alhaitham was getting so worked up over something like that bewildered him.
It was so unlike him.
Alhaitham knew better. Just as he had known better than Kaveh in numerous situations.
In contrast to him, he wasn't one to follow his heart, but rather his mind, something which he deemed reliable, superior, and a lot less fickle than the heart. But you were making him falter. You were getting his heart to speak louder than his mind and it was driving him insane.
Enough of this foolishness.
At some point, Alhaitham considered avoiding you altogether, even when you were in his home. Become distant and cold, that would be the practical thing to do.
However, that would only prove that he did harbor these feelings for you, wouldn't it? That you afflicted him profoundly that he would have to do that.
His pride wouldn't allow it. He'd prove to himself that he had gotten rid of this infatuation. He would prove that he could spend the day speaking with you, taking in your words, your thoughts, your laugh, and your wits, all without his heart beating a little faster. He'd show beyond doubt that he was better than that.
After all, why sacrifice conversing with a great mind as yours over something as tedious as romantic love? It seemed like a terrible waste.
He was resolved to speak to you like a colleague. You would be nothing more.
You are nothing more.
And he was doing fine when simply looking at you. He acknowledged your lovely features, though it wasn't something he'd keel over for.
Yet again, the moment you began to speak, getting into the many possible theories you had and listening so intently, eyes full of genuity and wonder whenever he spoke, he found himself inching closer to you. The further he closed in on you, the further he was becoming intoxicated, drunk on your words, getting high on your scent, and feeling hotter whenever your hand slightly grazed his as you reached to turn the page of the book.
Alhaitham felt like you were ailing him as if you knew of his attempt to resist. As if you knew that deep down, he wanted you two to become something more.
He viewed himself pathetic for being so troubled by you.
It made him recall the first time he met you. You showed up at his door with Kaveh at your side.
"So you're the one Kaveh has been complaining to me about. It's nice to finally meet you, Alhaitham."
You had always joked on how Alhaitham caused Kaveh headache and suffering, but little did he know that you would become the source of his own.
Oh, the irony
Tumblr media
a/n: aaaaa idk about this one. alhaitham seems a bit ooc and I may have dragged this on longer than needed tbh. Maybe I just wanted to see him suffer more LOL.

Kaveh and Alhaitham Relationship Headcanons~
Tw: none
Pre-relationship~
Alhaitham was the #1 Kavetham denier
Kaveh was aware of his feelings and just kinda moped about it
Poor man thought Alhaitham didn't like him back so he would just be all sad
Alhaitham was in denial
He didn't even realize that he had been crushing on Kaveh for the longest time
He just thought that he had grown attached
Kaveh brings Alhaitham food whenever he goes out (THIS AINT A HEADCANON THIS IS CANON AND WE ALL KNOW IT)
Alhaitham's face is on like every page of Kaveh’s sketchbook
They bicker a lot but the moment Alhaitham thinks he's genuinely hurting Kaveh he gets all apologetic and switches topics
Because Alhaitham doesn't talk to people a lot Kaveh didn't really get jealous when someone flirted with Alhaitham
BUT ALHAITHAM-
Naur this man was so down bad without even knowing it if someone got too “close” with Kaveh he would try to one-up whoever the offending person's intelligence
Everyone but Alhaitham can see how Kaveh is desperately pining after him
No one can see Alhaitham pining after Kaveh other than Nahida
They just think it is an L for Kaveh and many people tell him to move on
(Kaveh does not move on)
When Kaveh gets too drunk and starts getting sad Alhaitham will “rEluCtanTly” console him.
Cyno and Tighnari have a bet on who will confess first because Tighnari heard with his massive ears Alhaitham consoling Kaveh while he was blackout drunk
Eventually Nahida steps in, after watching Alhaitham read every book in the library to try and figure out what his feelings are
Alhaitham denies the claims, and Nahida just is like: You gay.
Kaveh confesses first and has this whole rant where he's like “I know you don't feel the same way and you can kick me out of your house.”
Alhiatham just went “I like you too.” he won at life and was having an internal party
Cue awkward staring
Alhaitham just kinda asked if Kaveh wanted to kiss and they did
Dendro gays are official :D
Relationship~
They have separate rooms but despite that, Kaveh likes sleeping in Alhaitham's room since he likes being close to him
Alhaitham likes having Kaveh’s presence nearby
Alhaitham actually struggles to sleep if he can't feel Kaveh’s presence nearby
When they get into an argument Alhaitham will steal Kaveh’s keys to force Kaveh to talk to him
Despite his appearance, Alhaitham requires at least one physical contact a day with Kaveh, aka buff abs man needs a kiss to function
Alhaitham does not want Kaveh to move out, one time Kaveh mentioned it, and Alhaitham just flat-out said you're not leaving.
Alhaitham doesn't do much physical contact but he just likes having Kaveh near him, like as long as Kaveh is within arms reach he is happy
They will have dates where Alhiatham reads and Kaveh draws him
Alhiatham fills Kaveh’s sketchbook more than ever
Alhaitham likes looking at the drawings Kaveh made
Kaveh constantly gets hit on by other men because of how feminine he looks and Alhaitham just kinda glares
He wont say anything to get people to back off, he’ll just glare or move closer to Kaveh
Alhaitham is so soft for Kaveh its like wild and at the same time hes the biggest jerk to Kaveh
One of their love language is bickering,
No you can't change my mind
They will nitpick each other's tastes but never go as far as to actually hurt each other's feelings
When Kaveh cries Alhaitham just throws all his brain cells out the window, now he is just fussing over Kaveh, holding him and whispering reassurances his brain turns to mush and the only thought is to make Kaveh feel better
If anyone other than Kaveh knew about this he would kill himself he never wants this to get out
Inktail’s Dendro bonus of a wedding plan~
They both get each other rings, well Kaveh makes his for Alhaitham, and Alhaitham just buys one.
Kaveh took on like a million commissions so he could get the materials for the ring
He has an entire sketchbook dedicated to ring designs
Alhaitham just gets a simple gold ring with their names engraved (it costs more mora than the rent)
Alhaitham proposes first and after calming down a Kaveh crying from joy Alhiatham receives his ring.
While it is somewhat bedazzled and has a pair of jewels Alhiatham still wears it since Kaveh gave it to him
Kaveh got a green jewel that matched Alhaitham’s boob gem
Kaveh cried at their wedding,

talking abt this makes me so emotional again bc i love love LOVE haitham pining and loving kaveh so so much and being fine with living with it as he has all those years, it rlly makes you realize kaveh is his entire world like
kaveh IS his first and was his only friend for a long time, he lit didnt have anyone during his childhood up to his adulthood as far as we know. kaveh shaped him sm and its like everything revolves around him for haitham. he talks to/abt others and brings up kaveh. hes out of his home the entire time kaveh is not home either
kaveh approached him first back in the house of daena and their friendship started; haitham approached him first in the tavern after their fallout and they reunited
kaveh is his own person (so is haitham) and does his things, haitham is a constant that grounds him and annoys him; to haitham tho hes lit his world. its nothign new but i still get emotional over this ughhhh haitham developing/having such big intense feelings for kaveh no language he speaks could put it in words

Curses [part I]
I have been so down bad for alhaitham like down bad enough that i can remember his voice and its so... but there aren't enough m!reader fics so here's some soup
You a student of the Akademia, and a good friend of Kaveh's. You go over to his house pretty often, but end up... intriguing Alhaitham.

It was a pretty standard day. You had just finished all of your classes with at the Akademia and were excited to get home when you felt your phone buzzing in your pocket. You reached in, grabbing it dejectedly until you saw who was calling you: Kaveh.
You pressed the little green button on the screen and held your phone up to your ear. You heard Kaveh's voice through the little device and smiled.
"Hey, do you wanna come over to my place to study for the test tomorrow?" He offered, shocking you. You had forgotten that you had a test tomorrow, and hadn't studied at all for it.
"Yeah... I actually forgot we had a test. Your 'genius' roommate might need to help me out..." you trailed off, rolling your eyes at the thought of Alhaitham. Admittedly, your opinion was probably pretty biased as Kaveh's friend, but the guy seemed like an asshole.
Kaveh sighed, and you could imagine him looking at you with that disappointed face of his. "Well, you should come over soon. I'll start making some snacks."
You nodded, before realizing he couldn't see that, voicing your agreement instead. His house was right on the way from the Akademia to your home, so you slowly made your way down the twisting stairs.
Finally, you reached the last platform and could see Kaveh's house. You smiled brightly, eager to get there. You walked the rest of the way and knocked on the door, grinning when Kaveh opened it.
"Kaveh! Thanks for inviting me, and for reminding me about the test. I would've been screwed." You joked as he welcomed you in. You walked to the living room before seeing Alhaitham and turning around. You really didn't want to deal with the Acting Grand Sage today. You didn't see it, but the man frowned slightly at your instant departure.
Instead, you made your way to Kaveh's room, dropping your heavy bag off before walking to the kitchen to help your friend out. You could see him pulling a tray of cookies out of the oven and felt your mouth watering.
"You spoil me." You tease, grabbing a cooling tray to put the cookies on. Kaveh grinned at you.
"Anything for you. We need to wait a bit to let these cool down, though." He said, joking right back at you. You nodded, grabbing a tool to move the cookies from the baking sheet to the cooling tray.
After a few minutes, everything was moved and you had poured yourself a glass of cold water. You and Kaveh nodded to each other, and started making your way to his room before you stopped.
"My room's not gonna be big enough for the two of us, it would be easier if we used the living room." The blonde said, frowning at the idea of Alhaitham being there.
"With your roommate?" You whispered back, trying to make sure the Acting Grand Sage didn't hear you. "You have to be the one to ask him to move, though."
Kaveh looked at you with betrayal, though the wrinkles at the sides of his eyes said otherwise. He sighed defeatedly, making his way to the living room with you in tow.
"Hey, Alhaitham. Me and (name) need to study here. Could you move somewhere else?" Kaveh asked, annoyance lacing through his voice. You expected his roommate to move with no issue but he decided to be even more of an asshole today.
"This is my house. Why don't you figure out somewhere else to study? Or at least put up with me in the living room." The man said, making you furrow your brows. You saw Kaveh grit his teeth in anger.
"We have a test tomorrow, is it so much to ask for some space?" He shouted, making you back away slightly.
"You're scaring your guest. Put up with me or go somewhere else." The Acting Grand Sage said coldly, making Kaveh look back at you with worry. You dismissed it, said it just surprised you. You didn't like it when people argued.
"What are you thinking?" Kaveh asked, looking between you and Alhaitham, who was still rudely staring at you two.
"I think we just bite the bullet and stay in the living room. I don't want him to feel like he's won." You whisper stubbornly, looking at Kaveh's roommate, and flinching as you see him looking right back.
He looked downright evil, and you wanted to wipe that smug look off his face.
Kaveh nodded, seeming to agree with you as you walked into the room and faked a dramatic sigh. Eventually, the Acting Grand Sage's gaze fell back to his book as he seemed to ignore your presence.
You and Kaveh made yourselves at home on the comfortable sofa's as you pulled your heavy books out of your bag. It wasn't long before you started studying, though Alhaitham didn't leave. For whatever reason, you didn't mind. It was surprisingly easy for him to study with him around.
You heaved out another sigh, it felt like that had been all you were doing so far. You were so screwed, there was no way you were gonna pass this test. Kaveh looked at you pitifully, sighing himself before pushing over his notebook and trying again to explain.
"God, I really should've studied." You whined, squinting you eyes shut and throwing your head back. From the corner of your eye, you saw Alhaitham looking at you amusedly and you glared at him. You saw him close his book and lean forward onto his elbows as he spoke.
"This is what you're getting wrong. You need to do this instead." He said in that deep voice of his. If he wasn't an asshole, you might even be into him.
"I don't need your help, Acting Grand Sage." You snarled coldly, glaring at the man. You could've sworn you saw a pang of hurt in his eyes, but that bastard didn't feel anything. You were probably just trying to empathize with him.
His lack of feeling was made obvious when he responded.
"Alright, then. Don't come crying when you fail the test." He spat back coldly. You furrowed your brows, confused why his words were so adversarial. Usually he spoke with an even, soulless tone, but he sounded angry, hurt. You shrugged it off. He was probably just trying to get into your head.
You sighed, dread swirling through your stomach. You weren't at all ready for this test. You fixed your eyes on your notes, pondering over what Alhaitham had pointed out earlier as the figurative lightbulb lit right above your head.
"Kaveh! I figured it out!" You yelled, smiling gleefully. You pumped your fists in the air as Kaveh looked at you happily, though he did look surprised.
"Have you finally got it?" He asked warily, though you could tell he was glad. You felt bad for making him basically tutor you. You would make something for him later to make up for it, you decided.
"Yeah. See, if you do this instead of that, then this happens and when that happens you can do this and then it's solved." You rambled on, explaining your reasoning. You felt eyes on the side of your head and looked at Alhaitham, but when you turned to him his eyes were still glued to his book. You decided to think nothing of it.
"Yeah, exactly." Kaveh said with relief, sighing as he leaned back on the sofa. "Oh, shit, we forgot about the cookies! They're definitely cool by now."
You eyes widened as you nodded frantically, getting up and speeding to the kitchen. As you rounded the corner, you almost slipped but Kaveh grabbed your waist, holding you to him to keep you upright. You felt heat spread across your face and hurried to get out of his grip. You had never been in such an intimate position with another boy, and you hadn't come out to Kaveh yet.
You turned back, trying to rid your face of the redness as you scratched the back of your neck. "Thanks for catching me, Kaveh." You said quietly, awkwardly before scampering off to the kitchen. You could hear him chuckle awkwardly before joining you in the kitchen.
You looked carefully at all the cookies in the tray, trying to find whichever was the biggest. You carefully plucked it from the middle of the tray and took a bite, eyes widening as the flavors swirled through your mouth.
You tried to speak with the food in your mouth, though it came out as more of a mumble. "'s really good, Kaveh!"
He smiled sweetly at you as you took another bite, taking a bite of his own cookie. As his lips wrapped around the cookie, crumbs fell to the floor and you laughed. Suddenly, you felt eyes bore into the back of your head and turned around, seeing Alhaitham staring at you. You had no idea what the guy was thinking.
"Kaveh," you muttered, noticeably quieter than before. "We should get back to studying."
Despite the surprised look on the other boy's face, he nodded, and stuffed the rest of the cookie into his mouth, making you laugh sweetly.
You soon made your way back to the living room, sitting down on the plush sofas as you grabbed your pencil. A sigh left your lips as you threw your head back. You were feeling a lot better about the test, but you still didn't like studying.
You heard a chuckle from your left before it came to an abrupt stop and you looked to Alhaitham with wide eyes. He laughed? You'd never heard him laugh, but it was a beautiful sound. You wished you could hear it again, but you realized that he was probably just mocking your incompetence. After your realization, you couldn't help but frown.
You shook your head, gritting your teeth and forcing your gaze back down to the heavy textbook sitting on the table. After a short time hyping yourself up, you started studying again.
You spent so much time studying that you didn't even realize dinner was approaching. You only noticed the time when Alhaitham stood up, looking down at Kaveh.
"I'm making dinner. You and your friend can clean up your own plates." He said coldly, making you scoff. It wasn't an unreasonable expectation, but he said it as if you wouldn't anyways. You watched his retreating form as he walked, seeing the muscles in his back ripple. You only just noticed that he wasn't wearing his cape.
Kaveh nodded, rolling his eyes before turning his attention back to your studying. Seeing your distraction, he placed his hand in front of your face and snapped his fingers, pulling your out of your admirations. You jolted, jumping slightly as you turned back to the blonde with a blush. You had just been caught ogling his roommate, after all.
He just smiled knowingly, chuckling slightly under his breath as both of your focus returned to the pages in front of you.
It wasn't long before you heard Alhaitham calling Kaveh's name, realizing soon that dinner was ready. You and Kaveh both made your way to the kitchen, grabbing the bowls Alhaitham had prepared for you. It looked mouthwateringly delicious, and it took a good amount of self control to wait until you were sitting down at the coffee table before eating.
He had made a sort of a pancake thing. You weren't entirely sure. 'Contemplation' was written on top of it, and you wondered if it was some wort of personal jab. You shook your head, sucking in a breath before breaking off a corner with your fork. When you put it in your mouth, the flavors swirled all around and you smiled.
It tasted like an altered version of Sabz meat stew, which wasn't usually your favorite, but with the way this dish was prepared, you were ready for it to become one of them.
It wasn't long before your plate was empty and you made your way back to the kitchen, grabbing the sponge next to the sink and scrubbing your plate clean. You propped it on the drying rack next to the sink and washed your hands for good measure before heading back, waiting for Kaveh to finish eating.
Kaveh seemed to be eating the slowest, because Alhaitham finished before him. He did the same as you did to your place before returning to the living room, but not sitting down. Instead, he addressed Kaveh.
"Kaveh, is it alright if I borrow your friend? Important Akademia matters." He asked matter-of-factly. Your eyes went wide, nervous that you had done something wrong, and you looked at Kaveh with anxiety as he finished chewing.
"Yeah, I'll finish soon. Take as much time as you need." He dismissed, winking at you teasingly as you face heated up with red. Son of a bitch. You sighed, standing up defeatedly as Alhaitham gestured you towards his room.
You furrowed your brows. You were going to his room, and not some sort of office? You didn't understand why, but there was very little that you understood of Alhaitham. The grey-haired man unlocked the door, opening it and welcoming you inside.
His room was... large. It was very big, and seemed like it had an ensuite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. In all honesty, it made you jealous. You stepped in the room, pulling the door shut behind you as Alhaitham stepped closer to you.
Pink dusted your cheeks as you could almost feel his breath on your face, his eyes staring earnestly into yours. This was a side of him that you hadn't seen before. It reminded you of the stories Kaveh told of Alhaitham being his cute junior.
You took a step back, feeling the wood of his door press against your back. You had just entered the room, and now you were basically pinned against a wall? How did that happen? Slowly, Alhaitham whispered something breathy.
"What have you done to me?" He asked suspiciously, a sharpness in his breathy voice. You furrowed his brows. You had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. You shook your head in turn.
"What are you talking about, Alhaitham? I've not done anything." You murmured, still looking the man honestly in the eyes.
Hearing your answer, he took a step back, carding a hand through his grey hair (looking at it now, it looked very soft). Huffing out a sigh with a furrow between his brows, he looked back at you with worry in his eyes.
"Then why do I care so much?"

Hope you guys enjoyed this!! At the end, I'm thinking Alhaitham might be a little OOC, but I still quite like how I wrote him.

Love the sethos voicelines because like Sumeru was already great for university AUs but now we have Cyno's weird adoptive brother (or really Cyno is the weird adoptive brother of the two) and Scara has a way to actually be involved as the campus cryptid and no one is making any arguments about Alhaitham and Kaveh obviously fucking to any outside perspective but everyone who knows them got too used to it to notice and now all we need is,, like,, Albedo to roll up as an exchange student and we've got the perfect terrarium to set up university AU multiple pairings mutual pining

my new favorite kavetham fic troupe is kaveh having a whole breakdown over realising he likes alhaitham and ranting about it to cynonari
the three of them go on little coffee dates and its mainly just tighnari trying to reason and "help" kaveh while cyno just kinda sits there like 🧍‍♂️
bonus points: if the fic has cynonari also pining after each other during all of that and kaveh's situation makes them just go "yeah no we are not living through that" and they just confess to each other
OR
cynonari is the fluffiest and most unproblematic established couple during kaveh's crisis and he has to suffer in the presence of a loving couple throughout all of that lmao

need me someone to do a haikaveh animatic of them w/the song lemon boy. i swear it fits them so much… i have my own interpretation of it below the cut !! (it's a bit long but bear w me.. tldr if u dont wanna read it: i think lemon boy nicely fits hkvh's progression in their relationship from their academia days to current times + they kiss at the end as a treat)
verse 1: There once was a bittersweet man and they called him, "Lemon Boy" / He was growing in my garden and I pulled him out by his hair like a weed
alhaitham thru kaveh's eyes, hkvh meeting at the academia (alhaitham is lemon boy), start of arguments
And like weeds do he only came and grew back again / So, I figured this time I might as well let him be
recurrent arguments+debates, slowly become friends
chorus: Lemon Boy and me started to get along together / I helped him plant his seeds / And we'd mow the lawn in bad weather
start hanging out/studying tgt !!
It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him / So, I got myself a citrus friend
become real friends / lowkey crushing?
verse 2: But soon his bittersweet started to rub off on me / You'd think smelling like lemon zest would be pretty neat
some more scenes of younger hkvh hanging out tgt :3 imagine what u want
I found out that my friends are more of the savory type / And they weren't too keen on compromising with a nice lemon pie
kaveh talking to some ppl who don't like alhaitham, argues w them (in alhaitham's favour) n leaves (maybe w alhaitham eavesdropping? lol)
chorus: So Lemon Boy and me, we just gotta get along together / I helped him plant his seeds / And we'll mow the lawn in bad weather
hkvh CUTE/fluff scenes working on the infamous project tgt
It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him / So, I got myself a citrus friend
maybe some more obvious crushing here idk.. i just love to think of them pining but not saying anything in their academia days...
bridge: But what if I run out of fertilizer? / What if the clouds run out of rain? / What if Lemon Boy won't grow no longer? / What if beaches dry of sugar cane? / Oh well
/the/ fight. kaveh leaves. they grow apart, the years passing by. alhaitham finds kaveh drunk at the bar.
The whales start to beach themselves / Tortoise shells tear away from their spines / It happens all the time, it happens all the time
after listening to his ex-friend woes, alhaitham takes his jacket, puts it over kaveh's shoulder, and brings him back to his home, offering him a second key to the house in the morning
pre-chorus: Lemon Boy and I, we're gonna live forever / Like Snufkin and Little My, we'll get around wherever
kaveh slowly getting settled in his new home w/alhaitham <3
chorus: Lemon Boy and I, we're gonna live forever / Like Snufkin and Little My, we'll get around wherever / It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him
them slowing hanging out tgt again, bickering w each other, little fond alhaitham moment w a small smile when he looks at kaveh arguing w him
outro: 'Cause we're the bitterest boys in town / Yeah, we're the bitterest guys around / And I got myself a citrus friend
alhaitham slowly approaches kaveh while he's complaining and kisses him to shut him up (heheheh) on the last line and it ends w kaveh being flustered but bringing alhaitham in for another kiss
OKAY IM DONE... hope someone read until the end if u did ily

no, no, no, youre so right but i might be a little evil with him.
i want al haitham to deny all his pining with all of his might because it really doesnt make sense for him to like me when i go against everything he thought his type was.
hed act like he doesnt want to be in your space all of the time 24/7 but if that was true then why is he always around? doesnt he have better things to do? he doesnt seem to be focusing too hard on that book in his hand either hmm... its so obvious to everyone else but he'll keep on acting like he's not so blatantly into you. its almost cute and very fun to watch but you cant indulge him all the time! you have a meeting scheduled with a certain mr. ragnvindr so he'll just have to survive a little without you. surely he can manage not getting too horribly jealous
i dont even like him that much hes just so...so bullyable...
heh sorry if this skews from what you were thinking but the idea of bullying this man got to me feel free to ignore me
anon this is ABSOLUTELY what i’m talking about. i want to be a menace to him. i would be best friends with kaveh just so we could torment him.
so this got long, if you are okay with me dunking on al haitham, so much is under the cut
translators note: the original text looked something more like “BARKBARKBARK BARKBARK BARK GRRRRRRRRR BARKBARK”
i’m sure at some some point (probably after too many nights just pondering the thought of you) he finally settles on the fact that you simply interest him. or that your talents in your respective field are exceptional and something to admire.
and then the entitlement starts.
well, he’s is the grand scribe isn’t he? with his position, intellect, and good looks he could have his pick of the lot. and it just so happens he’s picked you.
he’ll watch you from day to day, still bugging you and trying not to let those playful, yet sharp words you throw right back at him irk him so much. he’s certain you’ll come around. you probably like him just as much.
yes… you’re probably just playing hard to get.
so that’s why it hits al haitham like a ton of bricks when you reject him.
it all culminates when he finally plucks up the courage to let you know that he, even with his discerning eye, has chosen you for the great privilege of being his lover.
and then you do the last thing he thinks you would.
you laugh.
it’s not mean one, per say. more a laugh of disbelief. disbelief that he thinks anything he’s done has merited your admiration.
and THEN he’s just so vehemently jealous. if not him, then who? piercing gazes at whoever you’ve chosen to wrap your arms around turn murderous in intent as you pretty hands tangle with theirs.
and not with his.
his pride has been wounded, but this archon-forsaken infatuation still remains. and he stays like that until he realizes this is not how love begins, it’s how desire festers.

Loves me, Loves me not
Word Count: 13.5k words
Relationship: Alhaitham/Kaveh
Tags: Top Al-Haitham/Bottom Kaveh, idiots in love, jealousy, critical thinking skills, fluff, mutual pining, Honestly it's just Al-Haitham pining for 13k words, one (1) drunk Al-Haitham scene
Summary:
And then, his Akasha terminal lights up with an incoming message. Al-Haitham huffs harshly through his nose and opens his eyes. Hand on the terminal, he powers it on and finds both his brows raising. It’s a message from Kaveh. [3:46 am] i think i love him (Al-Haitham runs a case study on Kaveh and his love life.)
Katraa and I did a story exchange where we worked with the same vague prompt! Please check out her version of our prompt as well!! It's a lovely story! 💜
Read it here!
Author’s Comments:
I'm gonna be honest, this was just an excuse to get Alhaitham to overanalyze Kaveh's love life trying to figure out this mysterious person. I had fun making him run studies on the topic. He even makes it to the right answer every time!!
Katraa wrote me something SFW as a generally NSFW writer. I wrote her something NSFW as a SFW writer. The irony killed me when I saw it 💜
As always, it's very self-indulgent. Jealousy and Drunk Alhaitham are guilty pleasures I don't indulge in often. But when I do, I am a very happy writer

(Wanderer) does not fall in love easily, I am sure we all agree on that matter. But when he does, it is a slow and gradual process.
Sure- he can come to terms about the fact that he has developed some sort of feeling for you however, it will take him time to completely trust you!
At the start of the relationship, he struggles to both give and receive affection of any kind. Physical? Holding hands is fine I guess... Vocal? He probably won't recite poems or sing songs for you (He isn't Kazuha, give him a break) but he'll sometimes sneak in an 'I love you' when you're asleep- it helps him stay calm, ya' know?
Speaking of affection- I can't see him being a fan of PDA regardless of how far you two are into the relationship, the most he'll do is link arms with you or he might steal a kiss or two when you both are at a far enough distance from prying eyes.
But I can see him being a-
"Hey! I want your attention and your skin on mine, but I have too much pride in me to outright ask you for that so instead, I am going to give you subtle but not so subtle signs about it till you get the hint!"
Kinda guy, he'll maybe try and hang around your general area a little bit just doing his own thing, if he's feeling just a tad bit more needy then he will probably sit a little closer to you on the couch.
You'll indulge him in your affection right?
Right...?
Any normal person would probably say yes, but if you want to see him be straightforward with his desires- then you'll probably feign stupidity in the face of his 'subtle signs'. Little shit
So... let's say you did that!

Much to no one's surprise really, (Wanderer) probably got misread a little and thought that you didn't want to hang out with him, he would probably feel a little sad but would disguise it with anger directed towards you.
Maybe not anger anger, he'd just be a petty and attention hungry man child and ignore you for the rest of the day. If you want him to forgive you then you would either have to;
Smother him in hugs and kisses
Probably beg him to accept you back
Depending on how long you teased him for, he will probably pretend to not forgive you for that amount of time. If you were going to bully him then he was going to bully you back!
(Wanderer) is a wee bit insecure about your relationship, he did not want to experience the same things that he had gone through before so I can see him being overprotective over you.
Not in a yandere way but rather in an 'I've been abandoned thrice, I pray that you won't be the fourth time' sort of way.
I'd also like to mention that I (personally) don't see (Wanderer) being the type of guy to confess first, regardless of how hard he fell for you, it's likely that he does not want to admit just how head over heels he is for you.
He would definitely wait for you to admit it first, he'd exercise more patience on you than he would've with any other person.
However, let's say that you took a little too long. The mutual pining had gone on for far too much and he would probably get a little tired of waiting for you (He is but a simple man after all).
So I can see him dragging you by the wrist to someplace that's private but semi-romantic and just straight up tell you that-
"Listen, I love like you and you like me, so please can you just be my significant other already?"
Well- maybe not that exact wording, but something along the lines of that.
Overall: You guys have a very sweet relationship! Though the build up is slow, the results are very well worth the effort. You two would likely spend a lot of time in the pining stage as (Wanderer) is unfamiliar with the concept of 'Romance' and 'Romantic Relationships'.
Because of that, he would prefer to wait out and see if you could be trusted enough, if you had to courage to spend so much effort on trying to fit yourself into the tight cracks of his heart.
But oh boy- once you do, he will trust you with everything (after a certain period of time in a relationship with you) about him. You wanted his heart? Well shit you got it! It and everything else that comes along with it.
He will trust you enough to share his pains with you, the memories that haunt his head and the fear that follows him every step of the way, the mask that he wears will slowly crack in your presence and little by little, he starts to unveil himself to you, his vulnerabilities, his flaws, his strengths- everything.
He can only hope and pray that you'll love him enough to handle his all.
