Hetalia Characters as Things my Family Members have said
The Netherlands: "Give me a sec, I gotta scrub the nicotine off the bathroom ceiling."
Germany: "Hey mom, can you please pick us up? Your son is serenading people against their will with his anti-Valentine's Day song at the nacho bar in the middle of church."
Romano: "Please bless that the potluck committee will be better prepared next time." (My brother said this while blessing the food at a church potluck, where the committee was, of course, in attendance).
America: "Get the fried chicken out of your underwear!!!!!"
Sealand: "Stop finding everything I sneak!"
Italy: "Hey everyone! They're giving out free lobster bibs in the men's room!"
Canada: "Sides?? SIDES?!? The tree is round, there are no sides!!!!!!!!"
Prussia: "Go make me a sandwich." (My brother said this to my sister and proceeded to have a laundry basket thrown at him).
Tag yourself. I'm The Netherlands, because that's something I literally found myself having to say today. (And was also the inspiration for making this post. Let me know if you wanna see more. I've got loads of stuff and my family is weird).

It’s hard for me to describe the feeling of reading the news today any way other than heartbreak. The news that the labour government has published guidance for GPs advising them to deny blood tests to transgender patients seeking help with private healthcare. A labour government, a government whose name itself is supposed to mean that they are for the people, the people who are ostracised by the conservative party, the people who are denied rights by the right, has published guidance which does nothing but ostracise a group of people who they are supposed to be protecting. I voted for the labour party in 2022. Despite all of their shortcomings, I genuinely hoped that Starmer’s government would stay true to the purpose of the labour party and protect the unprotected. I believed that they would at least leave us alone. I feel betrayed.
Transgender people in the UK have already endured so much. From rampant anti-trans media representation, to the failings of the NHS and the government, to the all-too-common violent crime committed against us with little to no consideration towards the nature of these hate crimes. Every day I wake up in a country that wants to remove me from its statistics, and turn me into another. One that they no longer have to bother caring about anymore.
I got home from work today and immediately began writing this. I needed to get my thoughts on this out, before I drowned in them. I am a person who this guidance directly impacts, as I am currently privileged enough to have ongoing private healthcare towards my medical transition. I have already been denied shared care with my current GP, and was considering my options of changing practices in order to be allowed a shared care agreement, but now that feels close to impossible. This is essential, life saving care to everyone who uses it, and I find it completely disgusting that the UK government feels as if it has the right to deny it to us. This is a complete and utter betrayal from the labour party to the LGBTQ+ community, and to every other marginalised community in the UK. I urge others who are not directly affected by this to speak out in support of the trans community. If they are able to come after us with no consequence, who will they target next?

how do you make a whole post about people suffering from the tariffs and the need for compassion and never once consider the canadians who will suffer from the us initiating a trade war
That post was intentionally, very specifically directed at leftist Americans in blue states who are making jokes about people in red states suffering, with a side of me complaining about a small part of the Canadian government's plan about how to address this extremely complicated situation that I, in the post, admit to not fully understanding. I will apologize for that at least, that wasn't really what I meant to be talking about but I kinda had to critique the targeting red states part to explain my point about how the GOP thinks and why OTHER AMERICANS SPECIFICALLY should reconsider the way they talk about this. I didn't mean to say Canada was wrong to act, I was trying to address how certain Americans are responding to those actions, and that kind requires talking about Canada.
(I will also admit that I am am slightly salty at every single other country at the moment given most of them, including, as far as my research could turn up, Canada, won't let disabled people immigrate there unless we can work which like. We can't. Or we have a spouse or family member who has a job that will cover all of our expenses which....yeah most of us don't have access to jobs like that. My fiancé can provide for myself and him atm but he loses his job if he leaves America. We're queer and disabled and stuck here because the majority of the world doesn't think disabled people are worth saving. So yeah, kinda feels a bit like being complete abandoned by everyone and it does color my perspective a bit even if I do happen to agree that Canada should protect it's people from the harm Trump's bullshit is about to rain down on them.)
But yeah, obviously the entire world is going to suffer because of the shit Trump is pulling and I'm pissed about that too. The Canadian and Mexican governments cannot just sit by and do nothing while their people suffer, and I don't fault them having to take drastic measures even if I do disagree with the way one government is going about it. At the end of the day all of this suffering is Trump and Musk's fault and they should be the ones shouldering the majority of the blame. But I'm also allowed to make posts about one thing that is specifically directed at a singular group of people, especially a group of people I'm part of. I'm allowed to critique my own political allies when they fuck up. And as far as I've seen most of us have been not only very sympathetic, but borderline too eager to shoulder the blame themselves for the rest of the world suffering. I haven't seen any leftist ignore that the people of Canada and Mexico are going to suffer due to the actions of our government. I've even seen some of them legit reaching suicidal levels of self-hatered, saying they don't want to suffer but it's what we all(Americans) deserve for letting this happen, as if it was the people's fault and not a small group of money and power-hungry bastards who don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. I did not detect a lack of sympathy for the populations of other countries amongst Americans discussing this topic so I did not think that needed to be addressed in my post critiquing said Americans for their lack of sympathy for their countrymen.
So yeah. I am sorry to the Canadians and Mexicans who are going to suffer. I'm really, really fucking sorry. This is embarrassing and scary and painful for all of us, I wish I could stop it. I'm one disabled person who is bedridden recovering from surgery cycling through the stages of grief so fast it's making me nauseous. Your government IS right to try to protect you, I would give anything for mine to do the same, not just for Americans but for everyone trapped on this earth with us.
But again, I am allowed to make posts that are about one thing or talking to one specific group of people. I wasn't trying to address the people in other countries at all, this was talking to American progressives and liberals and leftists, and very specifically ones living in blue states, addressing how they talk about other Americans and how poorly it reflects upon them.
I apologize for not being able to cover every single aspect of a massive, extremely complicated situation in my one post, and sorry for being so bitchy about the Canadian government, I didn't mean to imply that other people aren't gonna suffer too. I figured that went without saying since I've seen so many Americans talking about it already. We should do both. Sympathy for everyone who's going to suffer.
I'm going to go lay down and continue to worry about my American friends and Canadian friends, and everyone now. Bye.

they should let you choose whether or not you’re willing to pay for military spending with your taxes. how wide is the gulf between being drafted and having your money forcibly diverted to fund military operations. you should be able to be a conscientious objector to both. Vonnegut voice I have also told them not to work for companies which make massacre machinery and to express contempt for people who think we need machinery like that.

ok. deep breath, and a word before this game. first off, fair warning that i am rooting for both these teams tonight, however i'm leaning towards canada because of the players and the players alone, so keep that in mind. i'd like to focus on the usa though. i think a lot of hate at least on this site is coming to that team, and i understand it even if i'm not necessarily siding with it. i personally despise talking about politics - as someone who is very moderate and also christian (so i believe in being "in the world, not of it") - but i do know that in times like this they're bound to come up. that's fine. hold to what you want, conservative or liberal or anything; i just want to give some positive outlook because i know that i for one need it. no matter if the US team wins today and what that might mean for the country and no matter which side the players are on politically, this is still america and it's still a place that has as much potential to change for the better as it does for the worse. there have always been problems and struggles, but i like to think that sports have been something that help bring us together. you can root against this team if you'd like (be it because of the players or the things they might stand for) and that's okay too, i just want to say that i still have hope in it all. and i want to go out and enjoy this game shamelessly, without worrying about the social morals behind cheering for either side. also lastly, if usa wins i'm fully taking that as something they did for johnny and matthew. because that's honestly what matters most to me, not what politics just so happen to be like at the time of this game. let's go enjoy some hockey <3 [also please read tags lol]

I watched a TV show this weekend (Captivating the King) where a tree was planted to represent a guy by his brother. Then there is a lightening storm and the tree is the only thing hit and burns to the ground. Predictably, the guy is freaking out because God smitted (smote?) a representation of himself. So I think to myself, "Never plant a tree that represents someone."
BUT THEN, I'm re-reading A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott today where Rosamund (main character) watches a tree her dad planted at her birth get struck by lightening and if she had paid attention to the bad omen maybe she would have avoided some very bad stuff later (trying not to spoil). So then I think to myself, "No, no. Plant trees that represent people and pay attention to omens."
So now I'm torn. What do you think?

My fellow Canadians
The time is now to gently impress on your Conservative-leaning family members that we cannot vote for Pierre Poliviere right now
For sovereignty reasons
Because when Trump repeats a joke enough times he forgets he’s joking
And it’s funny as hell to watch all the republican senators scrambling after him saying “no no no we cannot make Canada a state please no they will elect democrats”
And Poliviere is right leaning enough that they might panic slightly less and think they’d have a chance
(He’s also a fucking idiot who thinks we’re too stupid to notice him cosying up to the Christian fundies and big pharma and denying climate change, but people who ignore that aren’t likely to be swayed by facts)

just thinking abt this again because I was learning to make mooncakes on rednote but I feel like there’s gotta be such a massive cognitive dissonance for someone to genuinely believe Americans are lazy and self centered and uncaring for not intimately understanding other cultures as so similar to their own while having clear and objective evidence that our entire system is desperately trying to convince us that both of these apps are security threats from a country that took all our jobs and is basically our biggest threat or whatever. like none of these are accurate but they’re literally enacting laws that only work because they’ve pushed for xenophobia so hard our entire lives.
