yeah that's why while i find the differenciation between weak and hard AI really cool, i don't think it really matters.

because how do you know which of them is which ? it can tell you that it's sentient, but is it ?

you think your friends think the way you do, but how can you be sure ?

and in the end, what is sentience ? are you sentient ? if yes, how do you know you're not the only one ?

and in the end, does it matter ? my answer to this is no.

and it's precisely because you can never know, for you still see people as people, right ? not because they are, but because you brain thinks they are. so in the end, what matters isn't any objective reality, but the subjective one you're living in right now.

for better or worse, people (artificial or not) matter as much as you let them. so why live all alone ?

anyways, you can also apply that logic on the concept of "real" life.
