Terror Camp is hiring!
We are looking to expand our volunteer staff for this year’s conference.
We have two job listings based on our current needs, but if we receive a lot of great applicants there is the possibility we’ll split up these responsibilities into 3 or even 4 separate positions.

We are looking for people who can devote up to a few hours a week, depending on the time of year. Commitment increases around the times of Submission Opening (June 1), Submission Closing/Acceptances (September 1-Oct 1) and the conference itself (early December).
Terror Camp looks great on your resume. You can say that you volunteer for a successful community-led online history & heritage conference with an audience in the thousands!
You don’t need to match the job descriptions perfectly in order to apply. If your experience doesn’t match up but you think you’d still be good at the job, please apply anyway!
Here are the positions we're looking to fill:

Assist our Webmaster in revising our website & email marketing templates to fully match new brand identity and meet best practices for UX
Potentially work on print layout for a Terror Camp book or zine (TBD)

Have experience working with both digital and print assets

"The most fashionable bathing station in all Europe". British industrialists and American mining investors plotting the colonization of the Congo, while mingling at Ostend's seaside vacation resorts. Extracting African life to build European railways, hotels, palaces, suburbs, and other modern(ist) infrastructure. "Towards infinity!"
---
In 1885, King Leopold II achieved an astonishing and improbable goal: he claimed a vast new realm of his own devising, a conjury on a map called [...] the Congo Free State. [...] [A] fictional state owned by the king, ruled by decree, and run from Brussels from 1885 to 1908. [...] This was [...] a private entrepreneurial venture [for the king]. The abundance of ivory, timber, and wild rubber found in this enormous territory brought sudden and spectacular profits to Belgium, the king, and a web of interlocking concession companies. The frenzy to amass these precious resources unleashed a regime of forced labor, violence [millions of deaths], and unchecked atrocities for Congolese people. These same two and a half decades of contact with the Congo Free State remade Belgium [...] into a global powerhouse, vitalized by an economic boom, architectural burst, and imperial surge.
Congo profits supplied King Leopold II with funds for a series of monumental building projects [...]. Indeed, Belgian Art Nouveau exploded after 1895, created from Congolese raw materials and inspired by Congolese motifs. Contemporaries called it “Style Congo,” [...]. The inventory of this royal architecture is astonishing [...]. [H]istorical research [...] recovers Leopold’s formative ideas of architecture as power, his unrelenting efforts to implement them [...]. King Leopold II harbored lifelong ambitions to “embellish” and beautify the nation [...]. [W]ith his personal treasury flush with Congo revenue, [...] Leopold - now the Roi Batisseur ("Builder King") he long aimed to be - planned renovations explicitly designed to outdo Louis XIV's Versailles. Enormous greenhouses contained flora from every corner of the globe, with a dedicated soaring structure completed specifically to house the oversize palms of the Congolese jungles. [...]
---
The Tervuren Congo palace [...]. Electric tramways were built and a wide swath of avenue emerged. [...] [In and around Brussels] real estate developers began to break up lots [...] for suburban mansions and gardens. Between 1902 and 1910, new neighborhoods with luxury homes appeared along the Avenue [...]. By 1892, Antwerp was not only the port of call for trade but also the headquarters of the most profitable of an interlinking set of banks and Congo investment companies [...]. As Antwerp in the 1890s became once again the “Queen of the Scheldt,” the city was also the home of what was referred to as the “Queen of Congo companies.” This was the ABIR, or Anglo-Belgian India Rubber Company, founded in 1892 with funds from British businessman “Colonel” John Thomas North [...].
Set on the seaside coast, Belgium’s Ostend was the third imperial cityscape to be remade by King Leopold [...] [in a] transformation [that] was concentrated between 1899 and 1905 [...]. Ostend encompassed a boomtown not of harbor and trade, like Antwerp, but of beachfront and leisure [...] [developed] as a "British-style" seaside resort. [...] Leopold [...] [w]as said to spend "as much time in Ostend as he did in Brussels," [...]. Ostend underwent a dramatic population expansion in a short period, tripling its inhabitants from 1870–1900. [...] Networks of steamers, trams, and railway lines coordinated to bring seasonal visitors in, and hotels and paved walkways were completed. [...] [A]nd Leopold’s favorite spot, the 1883 state-of-the-art racetracks, the Wellington Hippodrome. Referred to with an eye-wink as “the king incognito” (generating an entire genre of photography), visitors to the seaside could often see Leopold in his top hat and summer suit [...], riding his customized three-wheeled bicycle [...]. By 1900, Ostend’s expansion and enhancement made it known as “the Queen of the Belgian seaside resorts” and “the most fashionable bathing station in all Europe.” Opulence, convenience, and spectacle brought the Shah of Persia, American tycoons, European aristocrats, and Belgian elites, among others, to Ostend.
---
Leopold’s interventions and the Congo Free State personnel and proceeds played three pivotal and understudied roles in this transformation, all of which involved ABIR [British industrialists].
First, it was at Ostend that an early and decisive action was taken to structure the “red rubber” regime and set it in motion. In 1892, jurists such as [E.P.] had ruled, contravening [...] trade laws, that the king was entitled to claim the Congo as his domanial property [...]. Leopold [...] devised one part of that royal domain as a zone for private company concessions [...] to extract and export wild rubber.
Soon after, in 1892, King Leopold happened to meet the British “Colonel” John Thomas North at the Ostend Hippodrome. North, a Leeds-born mechanic [...] had made a fortune speculating on Chilean nitrates in the 1880s. He owned monopoly shares in nitrate mines and quickly expanded to acquire monopolies in Chilean freight railways, water supplies, and iron and coal mines. By 1890 North was a high-society socialite worth millions [...]. Leopold approached North at the Ostend racecourse to provide the initial investments to set up the Anglo-Belgian India Rubber Company (ABIR). [...]
---
One visible sign of Ostend’s little-known character as Congo boomtown was the Royal Palace Hotel, a lavish property next to the king’s Royal Domain, which opened in 1899. With hundreds of rooms and a broad sweep of acreage along the beachfront, the palace “occupied the largest space of any hotel in Europe.” [...]
King Leopold met American mining magnate Thomas Walsh there, and as with North, the meeting proved beneficial for his Congo enterprise: Leopold enlisted Walsh to provide assessments of some of his own Congo mining prospects. The hotel was part of [...] [a major European association of leisure profiteers] founded in 1894, that began to bundle luxury tourism and dedicated railway travel, and whose major investors were King Leopold, Colonel North [...].
At the height of Congo expansionism, fin-de-siècle Antwerp embodied an exhilarated launch point [...]. Explorers and expeditioners set sail for Matadi after 1887 with the rallying call “Vers l’infini!” (“towards infinity!”) [...].

Media Representation and (a rant on) Draconity
I think it's natural to want to find something within the media that represent and reflects yourself. As a dragon, the option might seem like quite a few within various sources of media, but the realities are that I and my various alterhuman identities are not the typical or commonly seen dragons.
As myself, I'm orange, furred, white feathered wings, yellow horns, and the vibrant red belly. Those are not things you find common in animals, even amongst birds, that's some colors that don't exactly flow together. People drawn inspiration from around their world to create, people are also creature of comfort and habit--with the idea of dragon being "fire breathing, bat winged, scaly lizard" or "scale with mane, elemental control and sometimes deity, serpentine wyrm", and then variations based off of that, perhaps scaled beast with feathery wings, or great furred wyrm with webbed wings and fire breathing. Seriously what is with the fire breathing? Have I mention that I'm a shapeshifting sort of dragon? While that is often tied to the eastern sort of draconic beings, my exact combination of dragons are far and few in between. Even the dutch angel dragon within the furry community has certain limitation and character traits that don't align with me. If I hadn't got turned off by the idea of looking anywhere or being misidentify as a horse, I might have find myself drawn to the dutch angel dragon as a sort of maybe paratype, or just friendly dragons that I share similar traits with. But alas.
Every single piece of media or fictional source that has a representation I can find brings me joy. Games centered on collecting dragons like Flight Rising or Dragon Cave does a great job of acknowledging that diversity. I get especially grumpy when dragon maker only has webbed wings and scaly body. At one point I really did not want to put the 3D dragon maker by Dragonita on my Alterhuman Shifts and Self Discovery Tools guide (ohh, guess I finally got a name). You can call me petty however you want, but I was not very happy of something that denies my existence. I'm a strong advocate for draconic diversity, because I am not alone in being "unusual" sort of dragons. Nobody should feel like this, unseen. Dealing with the constant "he or she" as someone nonbinary is more than enough, thank you very much. I feel like as alterhuman, hell, even just within the confine of draconic community or even smaller the dragonkind community, there should be a sort of basic understanding that "dragon" is a abstract term. Like "what is human", "what is dragon" should be a default and nobody gets to decide who is or isn't dragon. To touch back onto what I wrote on Day 1 of this challenge, alterhumanity is a experience, it is a feeling, it is vague and abstract, it is something you know within your essence, or one day you will awaken to it. A dragon is all of that. I did end up finally putting the 3d builder on my guide. I will still prefer Lukas Sotrmskull's Dragon builder though.
Before I let my thought get away from me, lets talk about my other alterhuman identities.
The other side of the spectrum, when you have a almost exact match in sources that are well known, you end up keep getting mistaken as it. My kardiatype looks very alike to Haku from Spirited Away. It gets frustrating when I bring up my kardiatype, and people immediately go "oh, Haku!" It's the same problem with people seeing my self protrait and call that a horse or a goat. Seriously, is like people don't recognize a basic dragon head shape if it isn't scaled and spiked. Horses are neat, goat is fine, and Haku is a very cool dragon. But my kardiatype was not Haku. I'd argue that he was just your generic Japanese storm dragon that may or may not be local deity. Wild thought huh. I like that I get to see glimpse of that dragon through Haku, but I would really rather not deal with yet another case of misidentification in the form of "close enough". My human english name got enough of that treatment.
Amongst my other draconic identities, I have a vague-flicker of Flammie from the mana series. The vaguetype feeling has components of paratype within, precisely due to myself being the sort of dragon I am. Belly plate aside, Flammie looks very close to me. And with my discovery of how suggestive my wing count may be (currently in shifts of at least 4), Flammie is definitely a big contender for media representation of myself.
When it comes to intensionally created identity, me and Akumu, my headmate/mirror self, collectively linked a vaguetype of Aurelion Sol. Now, Aurelion Sol has nothing alike to me, maybe the color is more align with Akumu's, but generally, the eastern noodle form is my least favorite to partake in. It feels like a responsibility, and things are just heavier in a way when I'm in that form. It doesn't have to make much sense. Perhaps I will delve into this one day. One can argue we formed the link due to our kardiatype. But really, it happened because that's the one dragon we were really drawn to (and attempted to main) while playing League, and well, there were two others who were shyvana and smolder respectively, and we wanted to complete the draconic of LoL set for shits and giggles. There not much need to find a representation, because we are the exact representation from the source. But wait, we identify with the concept stage where people dub "unbound form" of Sol. Whelp, guess we gotta look elsewhere again.
It feels like I'm trying to start a topic and well, rant on draconity got me all over the place.
Sometimes it really is a exercise in patience. The more unique you are, the harder it is to find representation. Wouldn't change myself for the world though, I love my uniqueness, and I appreciate how crazily varied dragons can be. Or any other sort of creatures or identities or experiences. Life is wonderful like that.

Disclaimers: Spelling mistakes, unhealthy Obsession, Yandere. Taehyung is going to get worse and worse as this goes.
Chapter Two: Encounter
Taehyung entered the mysterious girl's dimly lit space with an aura that felt both enchanting and unnerving. The flickering lights cast a shadow that distorted her figure, making her seem almost otherworldly-like a diamond trapped in a room full of dull stones.
As she laughed, he could feel the air thicken, as if very essence around them was taking on a life of its own. She smiled, but there was something addicting about that smile, a hidden depth that hinted at darker intentions. There was a haunting beauty in her presence, reminiscent of a siren luring sailors to their room, and he mesmerized and unaware, felt himself slipping deeper into her web without her doing anything.
But the more he admired her, the more he realized that this masterpiece held a charm. A chill crept his spine with each word she uttered—a foreboding whisper that warned him he shouldn't be drawn to her allure. There was a lightness in her eyes.
Soyeon looks over and sees Chun-Yung with cousin Seo-jun and a girl. When she looks at her son. She sees him staring at the girl with Chun-Yung. She then looks at her husband and sees the look he was given pleading for her to distract Taehyung.
Soyeon rolls her eyes "Son, ensure you handle the stocks for tomorrow and send the builders to complete the museum." Soyeon said in a stern voice making sure Taehyung heard her and understood. Taehyung turns to face his mother giving her an inserting nod Taehyung younger brother walks over to distract their father.
Taehyung and Soyeon stroll over to Chun-Yung and the mysterious girl. "Chun-Yung, so glad you made it! How's everything with the beauty makeup?" Soyeon beams at Chun-Yung, but her eyes dart back to the mysterious girl like a kid in a candy store.
"Auntie, it's going great! This is my best friend L/N Y/N, she's an amazing artist—she painted that masterpiece in my mom's foyer."
Chun-Yung flashes her best smile, trying to impress. But honestly Soyeon's not the easiest to deal with; she can be, well, a bitch. Everyone's a little scared of her (a lot) except her husband, Lee Bong-Tae—he's like her personal calmness coach!
Taehyung couldn't take his eyes off Y/N since his cousin Chun-Yung mentioned her name: L/N Y/N. It suddenly clicked for him—she was the artist who created that stunt painting in his aunt's foyer. Taehyung was captivated by her beauty that he couldn't form a word. He glanced down at her outfit: a silky, spaghetti strap dress that made her look like she stepped out of a dark romantic novel. She was truly a work of art herself. "Your art is amazing dear you have talent" Soyeon said trying to get Taehyung to talk.
"Nice to meet you I'm Kim Taehyung you are the most astonishing woman I have ever met Ms L/N." Taehyung said trying to flirt with y/n, y/n pulled her hand a little trying not to come off as rude "Thank you guys so muc, it's amazing to finally meet you guys" y/n gave the sweetest smile she could pull before she gave a the little bow and walking away linking arms with Chun-Yung. Taehyung stares at y/n figure walking away he is gonna follow her but his mother stops him "You still need to attend to your guests, so let's get moving!" Taehyung follows his mother's order but still glances at y/n every second he could without getting caught

Dungeon Meshi Adventurer's Bible Monsters Part 3
Insecta, Arthropoda, Crustacea, Slime, Cephalopoda, Shellfish, Serpentes, Spirit, and Undead
Treasure Insects
Treasure Insects are between .011 and .014 Laios's tall before mimicry.
The treasure insect's size is "before mimicry". That means they don't necessarily look like coins and jewels by default. The treasure insects Kabru's party found were mixed with actual coins and jewels. Maybe they naturally come in certain colors and sizes but can reshape themselves.
Maybe they're actually cave-dwelling insects and they disguise themselves as various minerals poking out of the cave walls. And their preferred prey is crustaceans or other creatures that like to hide among the rocks or use them as protection. Like, a small hermit crab hides under a rock that has a treasure insect in it, then the insect paralyzes it, and eats the crab.
Succubus
Succubi are between .38 and .43 Laios's tall before mimicry.
Succubi in their natural state are REALLY short. They're shorter than a half-foot. I know the true answer is "It's magic. Don't worry about it", but I'd like to know how they manage to transform into larger creatures. Do they inflate their body size or can they fuse together to perform mimicry? The Marcille succubus transformed in front of Laios to become GIGA HEPTA-HEAD MARCILLE so they can likely shift forms freely. Meanwhile, the knight succubus was on a horse and dismounted it later, meaning the horse was a separate entity.
I read a comment on a video about metamorphosis that rewrote how I think about the stages of an insect's life. The comment argued that the larval form is the true form for most insects because they spend most of their lives in that state. In most cases, insects become adults exclusively to mate and then die shortly after.
I feel like this is true of the succubi as well. The larvae are their true selves and the adults exist solely to care for them. The adults have no sense of self-preservation and were willing to jump off a cliff to save one of the larvae. Their body structure seems to also be 100% devoted to producing milk for the larvae to the point their bodies basically turn into milk bags after feeding.
I would guess their life cycle is mostly chilling in whatever water source they were born in while being protected and fed by the older succubi. Then closer to the end of their lives, they take on their adult forms, mate, and spend the rest of their lives obsessively protecting whatever pool their offspring are in.
Huge Spider
Huge Spiders are 1.35 Laios's tall.
This entry was added in the Complete Edition. I don't have a translation of the text.
This species is called an Ariadne and is distinguished by the maze-like pattern on its abdomen. Each ariadne has a different pattern. Ariadne was a character in Greek myth who was in charge of the labyrinth the minotaur was kept in.
The ariadne spiders lay out web traps and chase prey into them. They sort of act as the builders of a labyrinth and the monster in it. And their silk is strong enough that the Canaries use it as armor.
Mimic
Mimics are between .24 and .38 Laios's tall.
Mimics first appeared in the chapter 0 oneshot and they are an excellent demonstration of Kui's ability to reimagine traditional monsters. Instead of giving us something that somehow knows how to imitate a treasure chest, which also requires to contrivance of treasure chests just lying around a dungeon, it's a creature that likes to live in them and attacks anyone who tries to open it.
Mimics combine the shell-wearing behaviour of hermit crabs with the size of coconut crabs (which are a species of hermit crab that grows too big to wear shells). One cute behaviour hermit crabs engage in is they will line up with each other to exchange shells when they start growing too big. Mimics are strong enough to move in whatever container they have so who's to say they don't also do something like that?
Their natural environment might also be whatever a treasure insect's is since treasure insects hunt mimics. Maybe mimics can build shells out of rocks if they can't find something big enough for them?
Huge Scorpion
Huge scorpions are between .24 and .38 Laios's tall.
Not much to say about this one. It was the third monster ever shown in the story and there was no particular fanfare around it. It's a giant scorpion that acts like a normal scorpion but big. I wonder if they also glow in the dark when under UV light.
Green Slime
Their height varies by specimen. This one is roughly .27 Laios's tall.
Honestly, I expected them to be blue.
Their taxonomic class is "slime". I think they would be distantly related to slugs or clams. They're not amorphous goo. They're invertebrate with an entire organ system surrounded by a layer of digestive fluids.
The slimes we've seen are large enough to engulf a person's head and suffocate them. If they manage to kill someone, do they eat just whatever they were able to wrap themselves around, or do they try to eat the entire body over time?
And the bible says the slimes that live in other animals' digestive tracts are symbiotes. So they probably assist the animals with digestion in exchange for a small portion of the meal.
Giant Kraken
Giant Krakens are between 3.78 and 4.32 Laios's tall.
Laios said the giant kraken they fought was several times bigger than normal. I can't tell if the scale for this one is a normal giant kraken or the giant giant kraken they encountered.
During the kraken chapter, I was gushing about all the fine squid details about it. Giant krakens have serrated suction cups, they take the same form when using jet-propulsion, their chromatophores stop working when they die, and they use spermatophores for reproduction. Another thing I learned since that chapter is real-world giant squids have ammonium chloride in their flesh to keep them buoyant, and that would make giant squid flesh horribly bitter just like the kraken was.
The Adventurer's Bible doesn't comment on the parasite the party found in the kraken.
Doppelganger
Doppelgangers are 1.35 Laios's tall.
A new entry in the Complete Edition.
Nothing in the bible implies they can read minds so I'm going to assume the doppelgangers that transformed into Marcille's parents managed to do so with the lion's help.
Otherwise, they seem to use mimicry to sneak into groups and they kill the person they're mimicking to cover their tracks.
If seeing their reflection causes them to change back, then that probably means they have to keep a constant mental image of what they want to look like and seeing their reflection gets in the way. Their disguise can't be 100% perfect and if they see their reflection, any imperfections in their disguise overwrites the mental image they have. And this creates a feedback loop where their disguise doesn't match perfectly to their mental image and the reflection keeps overwriting their mental image until the disguise completely falls apart.
If two doppelgangers in disguise were to look at each other, would they recognize each other as doppelgangers or might they potentially react the same if they saw a reflection?
Living Armor
Living Armors are between .92 and 1.14 Laios's tall.
This was the first time in the main story Kui got to really show off her creative interpretation of monsters. They're a colony of shellfish working together to move a body around.
MMT1 and MMT14 collectively imply Living Armor can reproduce sexually and asexually. The full body is probably created through asexual reproduction, but new colonies are made through sexual reproduction. Kensuke was willing to abandon Laios to save itself and I assume colonies will willingly abandon parts of themselves if necessary and produce new members later. If each member of the colony is a clone of each other, there's less incentive for the individual to survive if it means saving the colony.
I still want to know if there is some chicken-and-egg scenario with Living Armors and man-made armors. Did Living Armors look human-shaped and humans were inspired by them or did humans make armor and Living Armors decided to start mimicking their designs?
Basilisk
Basilisks are between .54 and.65 Laios's tall.
As someone who has raised chickens, I am completely biased when I say this is the cutest monster in the story.
I think the whole "which one is the tail?" discussion comes from an incorrect train of thought. If severing the snake from the chicken causes both of them to die, then that means they both contain vital functions to the basilisk's survival. It's likely an incomplete diagram to begin, but the organ diagram in MMT1 points out the snake has a set of lungs and the chicken has the full digestive tract.
The two heads likely take turns controlling the body. If one had dominance, then it wouldn't be possible to freeze it by getting both heads to try attacking two different targets. The chicken half is in charge when the basilisk is aggressively attacking and pursuing a target, while the snake watches its back and checks for potential predators. The snake might be more nocturnal though and it controls the body while the chicken half is asleep.
Cockatrice
Cockatrices are between 2.7 and 3.24 Laios's tall.
The non-snake part looks more like a raptor to me and I'm going to call it that.
When the party fought the cockatrice, there was a brief moment that I think demonstrates what I was talking about with the heads taking turns to control the body. When it was chasing them, the raptor half was in charge of the body. But when the party locked themselves into a building, the snake half seemed to take over since it could detect where they were. While the snake investigated the door, the raptor head started a lookout.
And what is even the point of petrifying their opponent. Petrification doesn't activate immediately and it wears off, so there's no immediate use that regular toxic venom wouldn't be able to provide. Does the raptor like to destroy the statue and then eat the stone pieces for its gizzard? Actually, the party encountered a cockatrice in a cave in MMT14 so maybe it does like to eat rocks.
Undine
Undine size varies by specimen. The one in the image is roughly .54 Laios's tall.
An undine is a colony of water spirits. It attacks by shooting water jetstreams. The water used in the jetstream reformed into the undine and it even rebuilt itself after exploding. So the water spirits launch themselves to attack and you need to destroy all of them to fully kill the undine. However, the spirits aren't necessarily all in agreement. The undine's mood shifts with the collective mood of the spirits that make it up.
What if the entire lake were a giant undine and Marcille just angered a small subset that happened to get hit with boiling water? I'm admittedly coming up with a crazy hypothetical, but who's to say that the entire dungeon isn't just loaded with various elemental spirits and things like undines are just their way of sending a strongly-worded notice that they disapprove of an adventurer's behaviour?
There are also wind, earth, and fire spirits called sylph, gnome, and salamander respectively. Aside from Holm using a gnome spirit to protect him from Falin, we never saw them in action. Undines and gnomes are at least tangible, but I don't know how the party would go about fighting a sylph or a salamander. Senshi would probably turn them into a magic air fryer.
Ghost
Ghost size varies. The pictured ghosts were roughly .81 Laios's tall.
Aside from the chapter introducing them, we never see any of the effects of their possession in action. There's a flashback where Falin exorcises a ghoul but the party never encounters one. The zombie Kabru's party killed in chapter 10 was probably a ghoul though.
Over the course of the story, ghosts go from hostile entities, to benign, to helpful. Some ghosts even tried to help with Laios's coronation and attended the feast.
Using them to make sorbet is one of the most insane things that happened during the story and I'm so glad it got brought up so much.
Skeleton
Skeletons are between .54 and 1.03 Laios's tall.
Skeletons never appear in the story (unless we want to count Falin's skeleton, but that one wasn't possessed by a ghost). The only mention of them is one sentence in chapter 8 where Laios said he heard a skeleton walking around.
The bible explains that skeletons are ghouls whose flesh has rotted away. Eventually, even the bones will fall apart and the ghost possessing them will be forced out.
The minimum size of a skeleton is shorter than Chilchuck, so there are either half-foot skeletons or child skeletons roaming about.
The english translation has an error in it. Skeletons are named "ghost" in it.
Dullahan
Dullahans are between 1.08 and 1.19 Laios's tall.
Just like in the main story, there's nothing explaining what this guy is. Its description is mostly an adaptation of actual dullahan myths.
I feel like the dullahan might be something outside the normal understanding of the world. It's the only monster that's been able to approach and enter what should be a safe resting place. And it was the only thing not trying to escape when the dungeon started to collapse.
A lot of the stranger things about this world can be explained away as either magic or the actions of a demon. I kind of want there to be something that defies even those explanations.

Huntsman spider inspired powers
- ꜰᴏʀ ꜱᴘɪᴅᴇʀ-ᴠᴇʀꜱᴇ ꜱʜɪꜰᴛᴇʀꜱ

Huntsman spiders are large, fast-moving spiders known for their speed and crab-like movement. Unlike web-builders, they hunt by stalking and ambushing prey, using their excellent vision and quick reflexes. They can climb walls, ceilings, and even glass with ease. Despite their intimidating size, they are harmless to humans and help control insect populations.

Venomous fangs - The user possesses teeth that are coated with or secrete natural venom, which can extend to the victim when said victim is bitten by the fangs - the poison immobilizes the victims
Adaptive development - The user possesses a rapid development rate, allowing them to permanently push back their limits within minutes when continuously reaching them
Camouflage - The user can visually blend into surroundings by blending in with the coloration and form of their background to avoid optical perception
Wallcrawling - The power to fasten onto and climb vertical and horizontal surfaces without falling.
Hunting mastery - The power to possess extraordinary mastery, talent and instinct in/for hunting all things.
Spider sense - The user can sense nearing danger, acute danger, potential immediate danger, or impending danger and sense unwanted or hectic threats to their well-being and the possibility to evade it.
Enchanted vision - Users have enhanced vision beyond that of the peak that can be achieved by their species, allowing them to see with amazing clarity/detail, distance, and color + 360° awareness
Enchanted reflexes - Users have unnaturally superior reaction speeds over other beings in their universe
Enchanted regeneration - The power to rapidly heal at a level beyond that of the peak members of one's species.
Enchanted speed - Users can move faster than the peak members of their species, making it very difficult for one to be able to react to them.

Traits inspired by the huntsman spider
Brown and gray for suit/hair/eyes
Tall height
Rarely working in groups
High tolerance for heat
Not liking rain
Would make a good parent
Moving quietly

Into The Spider's Web Part 3;
“Tech support?” Syntax repeated.
“Yes. This particular client is well known for keeping their card close, and they aren’t very open to letting outsiders in.” Lin said as she sat across from him at the table of the apartment Lin shared with Yin and Jin.
They’d converted a large warehouse space into a two store home, their living space being on the upper floor where Lin’s home office, their bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and bathroom were, and the ground floor was where Yin and Jin set up their gaming room and a large storage space for many trinkets the boys had collected from past victories.
“What changed?” He asked.
“The fact that the technology they are using is advancing and the need for new and longer living machines is required.” Lin explained as she offered him the list of parts and equipment she had been asked to find. “They need someone who can be trusted to keep their mouths shut about them when the job’s done, and someone who is going to help keep their tech and systems from getting overrun and clogged with useless stuff.”
“And you want me to be the one to help with that?” Syntax asked.
“If you’d be willing.” Lin assured as she nodded, “I haven’t told them anything about you, only that I’d look into finding help for them. There are plenty of people I’d trust to help them and keep their mouths shut at the end of it, but I also know that none of them would do as good a job as you.”
“Flattery isn’t going to do you much good here Lin.” Syntax remained, “I’m trying not to flaunt the ability I have.”
Lin couldn’t blame him for that, Megapolis as a whole was run on the hard work and sweat of engineers, builders, and technicians who spent days, sometimes weeks, trying to resolve problems, fix or replace outdated stuff and generally maintain the city’s every need. It was a livelihood to them, one they’d earnt through years of hard labour and effort, something they were praised for and honoured for by people even to that very day.
If Syntax’s abilities came out, many if not all those jobs could be lost, as Syntax’s abilities would render the need for constant upkeep null and void. And that meant those who had spent years earning their income would be jobless, many of them were specialists in their field and that meant the only way they’d keep earning money would be if they moved to a new city. Syntax didn’t want to be the reason so many people uprooted their lives just for a chance to find a job somewhere else, and so, he’d never openly disclosed his abilities to anyone.
Lin and her brothers knew because they’d seen him using his abilities once and agreed to keep hush about it if Syntax would help Lin with regular system upgrades and virus software updates, fixing the twins broken phones and tablets was an added bonus since Lin used them as a means to keep the two rowdy boys in line when they got in to mischief. Mrs Fenshi knew because she had been there when Syntax was a child, visiting her cat cafe with his Nana, who shared a much lesser form of the magic that she’d used to fix the old cash register in the cafe before it was upgraded to include card readers.
“This client is not one to boast.” Lin assured, “in fact it would shock me if you knew of them.” when Syntax lifted a brow in question, she smiled. “What do you know of the Emerald Queen?”
Syntax blinked, mentally looking over his memories of Demon Clans and their leaders. He found a few Queens, but none that went by such a title.
“How about ‘The Serving Queen?’” Lin offered.
That name, he did know. “The Spider Clan?” He asked, shock evident in his voice. “That’s the client who needs help with tech support?” It was almost unheard of, as anyone who knew the Technological industry knew that the Spider Clan was one of the founding clans of the entire enterprise alongside the Northern branch of the Demon Bull Clan.
Lin nodded. “Now do you understand why I’m having this meeting in my home and not in my office space.”
Syntax nodded, still reeling from the realisation of what he’d been told. It was a little known fact that mortals had learnt some of their innovations from the Demon Clans, but the foundations of their abilities to build, create and operate heavy machinery had come from studying the first mechanical wonders made by the Spider Clan. to think that they would need help would be almost laughable if one ignored that the Spider Clan had taken a massive blow in the past when all but one of the ruling Queen’s had been killed in an attack of Silken Web Hollow. The Serving Queen was the only survivor, and while no one knew where she was or how many had survived with her, everyone knew that the Spider Clan was not one to be ignored.
“Hypothetically speaking,” He began to ask, knowing better than to just jump into any contract without knowing all the conditions, “What would this job include?”
“Hypothetically.” Lin smiled, and adjusted her glasses as she explained. “As with any job between humans and Demon, the finer details would be discussed between the actual client and you, if you were to accept the job, but the over all details are simply this; the helper would be given the task of installing and them maintaining the new equipment with weather a weekly, bi-weekly or even a monthly check up to make sure the systems and installations continue to work at optimal efficiency. The work would be paid for, as is the rule of all such deals, and all over, the helper would be considered a ‘friend’ of the client. This would mean that if there were someone, or something the helper needed assistance with in any way, the client could help them.”
“So it would be a favour for a favour type of agreement?” Syntax surmised. “An equal trade of skill and value between both parties.”
“On the surface, yes.” Lin nodded. “As I said, the finer details would be between the client and whomever agrees to be their helper. My job starts and ends finding that helper and being there to witness the first meeting and the final contract signing. Everything else would be strictly between client and helper.”
Understandable, given that Lin was such a trusted figure in Megapolis, she couldn’t be seen to be too deeply involved in anything beyond the skin deep meet and greets, and witnessing the signing of contracts and deals between human and demon parties about the city. A line that kept Lin from any harm and danger but also made sure everyone knew that if they dared to break the terms of the contract, they would be the ones to suffer not just as Lin’s hands, but the hands of Yin, Jin, and then the authorities, if they were lucky.
“You can take as long as you need to think about it. The parts they need won’t be here for a few days.” Lin assured him. It was a lot to think about after all, and it was never a wise idea to jump into a contract with Demons without properly thinking it through. “If you make up your mind before then, you know how to contact me, I’ll arrange a meeting between you and them.”
“Thank you, Lin.” He nodded.
One week and still no response.
It struck him as odd. The man was said to be very punctual and swift in his responses from what he’d gathered about him. So while the child was out making mischief of himself with the Key, he chose to walk the streets along the ways he knew the man usually walked when not in the Cat Cafe.
There was no sign of him at first, and any chance of finding him was lost when he heard the tell-tale sounds of conflict not far from him. His Lady would not be pleased to hear that he had failed to secure the Scientist yet. No matter, he could find him in the chaos of what was to come, as any smart person would go to the shelters or stay locked inside their homes if possible.
He could be patient and wait for the Scientist to come to him, afterall, it was assured that his Lady would achieve her Destiny, she needed only be released and thanks to the Monkey King’s Successor, that was mere hours away now.
Yes. Soon his Lady would be free and with her release from her prison and with her release, the world would soon fall into her hands and become a perfect unblemished world, free of the filth of imperfect and flawed remnants.
The Spider Queen didn’t know whether to curse the sudden uprising of the Demon Bull King and the Bull Clones or praise it.
Sure the timing of it was a little annoying, after Lin had gone to such trouble to set up a meeting between them only to have their talk interrupted by a very powerful explosion. The Spider Queen had insisted that both Syntax and Lin stay with her until it was safe again, and brought them both down into her Lair. It was deep below the danger, and while it wasn’t the ideal place to get a phone signal, The Queen was able to show them the surface using a hacked feed for some of the city cameras the Spider Clan had been using to keep an eye on the entrances to their Lair at the City’s level and allowed them to see what was happening.
Demon Bull King, apparently enraged by something, was on a rampage, a strange contraption on his back, clearly giving the Demon Bull an unnatural boost to his power as he laid siege to the city.
“Whatever’s gotten into him, it's not going to blow over anytime soon.” Syntax said after one wayward attack blew the camera feed and left them unable to watch any further. “I don’t think I’ve seen any demon that angry in the current century.”
Lin sighed heavily, rubbing her face with her hands. “This is gonna cause so much paperwork. What could have brought this on?” It made no sense, Princess Iron Fan knew the truce guidelines, surely she’d have told her husband them? And even if she hadn’t, the Demon Bull King shouldn’t have this much power after being sealed for so long…
“He doesn’t seem quite himself.” The Queen said as she looked at the images. “Even when angry, the Demon Bull King isn’t one to blindly rampage like this, something must have happened either to his wife or his son.”
Had someone made that lucky shot and hurt Red Son? Or worse, hurt both Red Son and Princess Iron Fan? That would be the only reason Demon Bull King would be so enraged.
“Could someone make that kind of a strike against the Demon Bull Family?” Syntax asked. “Both Red Son and Princess Iron Fan are technically Celestial beings, they can’t be harmed by Mortal weapons, and they’re both skilled enough to handle a fight.”
“They have many foes beyond the Heavens.” The Spider Queen remarked. “Even with Red Son running the majority of the Security industry, and Princess Iron Fan’s influences across the city, there are demons and some foolish mortals who’d risk everything to try and best them. And that’s before we consider that this might be the act of a lady trying to take out the wife and son so she can take their place at the Demon Bull King’s side.” She reminded, as it was common for some demons to target mates and children of powerful Demon Kings to try and make space for themselves though blood rite courtships, though it had become a very rare method of courtship in recent centuries.
“A blood rite courtship attempt? In this era?” Lin asked, shuddering. “I’d rather not know who would be trying that old song and dance.”
“I’ll save myself the mental imagery and not ask.” Syntax said.
“Wise idea.” The Queen said. “Now, since we’re likely to be down here for a while, perhaps we should turn our attention back to our conversation from before all this excitement?” She offered, and led Lin and Syntax to a place where they could sit and talk.
It was, to be perfectly fair and honest, a very simple request. The Spider Clan’s systems and equipment were well past their time, but with Syntax’s help, the new equipment and installations would be the foundation of a plan the Queen was still debating on putting into motion or not, depending on a few finer details she still needed to check and study further. It would not be a difficult job. In fact, Syntax was sure he could get everything installed and working in just under nine hours, excluding the unboxing times.
They’d already agreed on a fair price, one that the Spider Queen considered rather cheap all things considered, but Syntax had insisted that she needn’t spend more than the agreed price for his work, since he was already financially stable in his own right and was in fact looking into starting up his own little tech and survive shop as his last long term employment had left him rather board.
“I believe we were discussing your lack of employment?” The Queen recalled as Lin and Syntax settled onto two of the plush chairs and she herself settled onto the webbing over a table where tea had been set up waiting for them. “Surely someone as intelligent as you would be highly sought after in this city.”
“I would be, if I advertise myself as others in my field do.” Syntax admitted as Lin poured tea for everyone. “But after my last job ended poorly, I chose to take a small break from employment under others and set about making my own projects and ideas for a few months.”
“Poorly?” The Queen asked.
“A false accusation. Someone didn’t like the idea that I was lower down the chain but doing far better than they were doing. They accused me of abusing substances, and when the investigation proved my innocence, I resigned and turned over all my evidence of them and other higher ups abusing substances in the labs to the CEO and Founder of the company. That whole company branch was shut down two weeks after I resigned.” Syntax admitted. “I believe it's on public record with names removed for privacy sake.”
The Spider Queen and Lin laughed at that.
“A Mortal after my own heart, I see. Good.” The Queen said, “But that does beg the question, what was it that sparked your drive in the field? You clearly have a passion for it to have stayed in the field for so long.”
Syntax shook his head, “Nothing special, my father was an advanced technical engineer, my mother was a computer specialist and technological researcher, so I grew up in a home where technological tickering was not only encouraged but pretty much the norm. I can make almost anything, but I prefer code writing and programming to the more advanced city wide system programming and technological hardware.” he admitted.
The Queen smiled, catching the way he’d worded his answer. She pressed just a little. “You say that like you could do either or.”
“I could, if given the time, but I’m not one to boast my own skills.” Syntax said. “People spend years of their lives learning, studying and practicing to get jobs like that because the money they earn can set their kids, grandkids and even great grand kids up for life. I have money from my parent’s smart investments and my own, so I feel it rather rude to just walts in and take over such a demanding job on a whim and doom someone’s family to poverty just because I can.”
“Such honesty is rare. And since you have been honest with me, allow me to be honest with you.” The Queen told him. “Tell me truthfully now, what would you do if someone wished to right a long unpunished wrong through a level of violence not too dissimilar to how dear old Bull Daddy upstairs is currently behaving?”
“It would depend on a few things.” Syntax admitted, “Who would likely be the ones hurt by these violent means?”
“If I can have it my way? No Humans will be hurt so much as they will be sore from a little old sting.” The Queen assured and lifted her hand, gently prying a small spider drone from the webbing above and setting it down on the table where it skittered around for a moment or two as she spoke. “These little critters of mine are a miniature version of a much larger variation once prominent in the Silken Web Hollow. A kind that could attach itself to a person’s back and control them through injecting a controlled dosage of my personal venom. Effectively anyone bitten would become something of a puppet to my will until the venom was removed. They’d have awareness of the drone, and that they were not able to move without my say so, but the whole process would be painless, save the tiny sting of the venom’s injection.”
“Any person?” Syntax repeated. “Human and Demon?”
“Human, Demon, and Celestial.” The Spider Queen nodded. “I created them in the early days to help secure my home from any threats, and while these smaller ones can’t match their bigger models, they do well enough to keep eyes and ears around the city should any threat come looking for a fight with me and mine. And sometimes, they see the most interesting magics about the city.” She explained and pretended not to notice the way Syntax stiffened. “Normally, I wouldn’t be so kind as to speak of this openly with Lin here, but I owe her a favour for finding me someone willing to help with my technological issues, so consider this my payment to that.” She said with a pointed look at Lin.
“Of course, your Highness.” Lin nodded. “So long as you remember that your contract with Syntax means you can’t tell others what you know of him.”
“I have no intentions of spreading any such gossip around anyone.” The Queen assured, “I merely wanted to let it be known that I am well aware of the unspoken abilities this young man has at his fingertips. And that I have done my research into him in the meantime.”
“And you aren’t going to try and keep him here?” Lin pressed, a sharpness to her voice Syntax knew meant she was ready to fight if things went badly.
“Not unless he gives me a reason to no longer trust him to keep his mouth shut about me and mine when his job installing my new equipment is done.” The Spider Queen offered a glance at Syntax.
His choice. He could say enough here and now, walk away from this conversation and she’d never bring it up again. Their deal would start and end with him installing the new tech she needed and then he’d be a few hundred yen richer and be on his way. But he was already, pardon the pun, stuck in the web, and he had nothing to lose in listening to the offer on hand.
“I rather like living, thank you very much.” Syntax admitted, “As far as I’m aware this is strictly a business meeting between two parties, nothing more nor less.”
In for a penny, in for a pound, as his family motto said.
“Good. Now then. As I said, Syntax, I want to correct a wrong that has gone unpunished for far too long, but to do that, I need to refine my bigger drones’ designs a little. I can design them to do their intended tasks, but I need to refine their target acquiring skills and their programming in regard to whom they inject and who they leave in a nice tight bundle of webbing.” The Queen explained.
“Targets such as children?” Syntax asked.
The Queen nodded. “We’re Demons, and yes, I have no love for humans in general. But I will not lower myself to the level of a monster. The fact of the matter is that human children and babies are innocent, and the drones can’t be programmed to turn them without putting their lives at risk, so instead, I wish to implement the new drones with a system that understands who is a child and who is an adult, and utilise the webs to bundle up the little ones so they will be safely out of harm's way while the adult are under my control. I’m told you are the best mind in the city when it comes to weaving magic and technology. Consider this a personal challenge from me to you; design these drones with a means to identify children and babies from adults so that the little ones are not hurt, and I will make sure your reward is greater than any riches or wealth within the Spider Clan.”
“Why?” Syntax asked. “What do you gain from this?”
“Because Heaven has allowed a wrong to go unpunished for far too long, and I am no longer in a mood to allow them to forget my people’s demand for justice.” The Spider Queen said, clenching her fists tightly. “I plan to take over all of Megapolis, using my drones to control the mortals and then either capture or bargain with the demon powers that surround Megapolis. With all their powers and mine together, we can force Heaven’s attention to focus upon us. Once that’s done, I intend to use Heaven’s precious Maidens as leverage until the truthful answers about what happened at Silken Web Hollow are found.”
That was her ultimate goal. The answers to all that had been done and then ignored. The reasons why so many had died and been forgotten. Until she had those answers, her Clan would never have true peace or closure for that awful day.
“And that is all that this violence would be used for?” Syntax asked. “No innocents would be intentionally harmed?”
“Upon my honour and title, not one innocent shall be harmed by my hand or the hands of mine own. All ill intent and harm will be in the wrongful ones when the answers I seek are given.” The Queen assured. “I may be a Demon Queen, but I am not without honour or morals. The only harm shall be upon those who deserve it for the crimes they have been allowed to escape from for so long. Once that is done, I shall release the humans from my control and leave the city to repair what minor damages may have happened in any scuffle that may have happened thereafter.”
Had this been the by gone days, she would not have cared for the human lives, but things had changed in the last century, a push against Heaven’s neglect of their own laws and rulings driven by a union of Mortal born gods and some of the more powerful Demon Clans, alongside a few lesser Heavenly Gods. They were pushing for equality, and whenever possible, they were demanding answers from Heaven about crimes that had been unjustly punished.
They’d had some successes, but they were small ones, and even with all their efforts, the changes they were trying for were slow to come, as Heaven was fighting every step of the way. The Spider Queen may not be affiliated with the union of forces, but she had no desire to anger them or make their task any harder than necessary.
“You’ve thought this through, thoroughly.” Lin said, sipping her tea.
“I am tired of Heaven’s continued ignorance of the plight of my Clan. It is past time they were reminded why I am not one to be ignored.” The Queen remarked.
“Before I agree to help, I have one condition.” Syntax said.
“And that is?” The Queen asked.
“The payment for my help.” Syntax said, “A portion of it is to be distributed to the City’s animal shelters rather than coming to me. I have enough money to live comfortably, I have no need for more.”
The Spider Queen smiled. “If that is what you wish, then I shall arrange it. So, Syntax, Do we have a deal?”
“We do, Your Highness.” Syntax nodded.
“Lin?” The Queen asked.
“I’ll have a paper contract ready for you both when the mess up top is over with.” Lin assured, “for now, since we don’t know how long it’s going to take, how about we make a start on the installation of the new tech?”
If nothing else, it would help pass the time.

What is a Website? A Complete Beginner’s Guide

In today’s digital age, having an online presence is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. Whether you're a business owner, content creator, or just someone curious about the web, understanding what a website is and how it functions is essential. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about websites, their components, types, benefits, and how to create one.
What is a Website?
A website is a collection of publicly accessible web pages that are linked together and share a single domain name. These pages are hosted on a web server and can include text, images, videos, forms, and other elements that users interact with online.
In simpler terms, a website is your virtual space on the internet — like your home or office in the digital world. It allows you to communicate, sell, educate, entertain, or showcase anything to a global audience.
Why is a Website Important Today?
In a world dominated by smartphones, search engines, and social media, a website acts as your central hub online. Here's why it’s important:
Visibility: A website helps you appear in search results when people look for your products, services, or information.
Credibility: A professional-looking site builds trust among your audience.
Accessibility: Your website is available 24/7, allowing customers to reach you anytime.
Marketing: It's the foundation for all your digital marketing efforts.
Sales: With e-commerce, your website can directly generate revenue.
Core Components of a Website
Every website has several key components that make it function properly:
1. Domain Name
This is your site’s address (e.g., www.digitalcreator.org.in). It’s what users type in their browser to visit your site.
2. Hosting Server
Web hosting stores your website’s data and serves it to users when requested.
3. Content Management System (CMS)
A CMS like WordPress, Joomla, or Shopify makes it easy to build and manage content on your website without coding.
4. Web Pages
These include the homepage, about us, contact, services, blog, etc., that make up your website.
5. Navigation
Menus and internal links guide visitors through your website.
Types of Websites
Different websites serve different purposes. Here are some common types:
1. Business Website
Used by companies to promote services, share information, and connect with clients.
2. E-commerce Website
Allows users to buy and sell products online. Examples include Amazon and Flipkart.
3. Portfolio Website
Ideal for creative professionals to showcase their work.
4. Blog or Personal Website
Used by individuals to share ideas, stories, or niche content regularly.
5. Educational Website
Used by schools, institutions, or educators to provide learning materials.
6. Non-profit or Government Website
Focused on delivering information and services to the public.
How to Create a Website (Step-by-Step)
Creating a website doesn’t require you to be a tech expert. Follow these steps:

Choose a reliable hosting provider like Bluehost, SiteGround, or Hostinger.
Step 3: Select a CMS or Website Builder
Use platforms like WordPress, Wix, or Shopify to start building your website.
Step 4: Design Your Website
Choose a theme or template. Customize colors, fonts, and layout to match your brand.
Step 5: Add Content
Create and publish pages like Home, About, Services, and Contact. Use quality visuals and optimized text.
Step 6: Optimize for SEO
Use keywords (like website) naturally, optimize images, and ensure fast load speed.
Step 7: Launch and Promote
Once satisfied, make your website live. Share it on social media and start your SEO or ad campaigns.
Best Practices for a Great Website

Fast Loading Speed: Use compressed images and optimized code.
