Terracotta Turmoil
Tumblr media
Another muscle growth racial TF! I went with phonetic Chinese rather than using Chinese characters as it feels hotter to me to be able to read the phonetics! Hope y'all enjoy! -Occam
Tumblr media
Chase was beyond excited for the opportunity that his museum has recently secured. It didn’t seem possible, and perhaps the provenance isn’t exactly strictly clear or legal, but some donors have ensured that an exhibition is soon to begin. Before that though Chase simply had to sneak a look and wandered into the exhibit’s worksite to closely observe the artifact.
Upon seeing it Chase is less than impressed with the artistry and history of the object instead thinking of what a score they have wrung from whatever schmuck had it. Chase begins counting dollar signs in his head as he approaches the statue, getting close enough to touch it when he sees a flash in the statue’s lifeless eyes. Keeping his mind ever focused on financial gain his eyes race to meet those of the terracotta statue in front of him where he finds naught but the cold rage-filled gaze of a warrior.
Tumblr media
He rolls his eyes and begins to step away to plan the promotions for the exhibit when suddenly he hears a voice in his head, in a language he cannot understand, “Rúguǒ nǐ yào bǎ nǐ de yìzhì qiángjiā gěi wǒ. Ránhòu wǒ huì bǎ wǒ de qiángjiā gěi nǐ” (If you shall impose thine will upon me. Then I shall force mine upon you.)
Chase suddenly scans the room for whatever coworker must be pranking him, though he is sure that none of them know Chinese anywhere near the fluency of his voice. His eyes flicker to the door as it slowly creaks closed with a click, the lock turning by itself. Chase turns with a suspicious look to the statue. His concentration flickers as he once again sees a glint in the statue’s impenetrable eyes. Chase is not a superstitious type but something unnatural was occurring and he wasn’t to be caught on the back foot.
He is mousy and short but tries to stand tall and puff his chest up at the statue as he starts to engage, “Your, uh yìzhì?”(Will?) Wh-” Despite his meager attempt at bravado he immediately falls back in shock finding himself speaking in a tongue that he never even had a passing desire to know. He stumbles back away from the statue, still facing it. The lights dim in the room and the glitter of the statue’s eyes begin to glow outright, “Wǒ bù xǐhuān shǐyòng nǐ de shēntǐ, nǐ zhège chètóuchèwěi de shǎguā. Dàn nǐ jiāng chéngwéi wǒ líkāi zhèlǐ de ménpiào." (I take no delight in using your body, you utter fool. But you will be my ticket out of here.)
Chase is compelled to make eye-contact with the merciless eyes as they burn a hole into his mind. He is immediately beyond confused and dizzy, no longer sure of anything in the world besides the fact that his condition is only to rapidly deteriorate even further. He feels himself lose control of his mouth as drool begins to pool within it. Little loss though as he is rapidly losing the ability to form any thoughts in English anyway.
He falls to his hands and knees, mouth agape as he spits up onto the floor. The floor shines like a mirror reflecting the light above as a spotlight onto him and making evident the sinister shine of the statue’s eyes as they continue to burn. He stares at his hands clenched on the floor struggling to latch his mind on any thought that remains. As he struggles suddenly a thought appears through the fog as if it were the most evident thing in the world, Diāoxiàng bù shǔyú zhèlǐ (The statue doesn’t belong here.)
Chase isn’t even taken aback as his mind starts to return, now using a language he’s never learned. If his thoughts are all in Chinese there is no conceivable explanation beyond that it is the language that he was raised in, but he was gweilo(western) no? He brings his eyes to look at his reflection in the recently waxed floor to see something immediately jarring. His mouth is still ajar, still slightly leaking drool, but his reflection looking back at him has an unmistakable scowl and smirk.
He recoils, though staying on the ground, as he notices that his short messy hair is starting to grow and straighten. His sandy blonde locks swiftly begin to darken as they lengthen into something far more fashionable. He feels his face respond to the unconscious worry in his mind at seeing his appearance change. In response his reflection bares its teeth as the scowl becomes crueler, the eyes beginning to glow just as the statue’s did.
He forces his eyes shut to avoid them being penetrated by the burning gaze once more. He is no longer able to open them as he feels his eyelids throb and tighten. Chase grunts and clenches his teeth as pain surges through his face before he forces his eyes back open and is once more greeted with unfamiliarity in his reflection. Impossible to miss were the epicanthic folds that now hang over his blue eyes. He continues to stare at them, seeing his skin begin to pale and smooth as his hair turns black to the roots and his eyes begin to darken, slowly turning brown.
Tumblr media
Chase stares at his own irises as they almost move beyond brown to instead be as pitch black as his hair. At the same time a laugh that Chase still recognizes as his own rings through the exhibition hall, though each echo as it returns back to his ears is deeper than the one that came before. He clutches at his hóujié (adam’s apple) feeling it throb larger into his hand. He gasps sharply, feeling more air rush into his lungs as he takes a breath deeper and more labored than ever before.
Now with only one hand keeping him from falling to the ground Chase watches as the eyes of his reflection glow with a rage centuries old, challenging him to not fall on his face as he feels the force of gravity upon him ever-more difficult to ignore. Just before totally collapsing he wrenches his hand from his neck to catch his fall. Struggling against the weight of his body as it feels heavier by the moment, Chase feels his arms begin to strain the sleeves of his dress shirt. Sweat drips from his hair to stain his reflection as his biceps force themselves larger than his shirt could possibly hold.
Tumblr media
Drawing off all the remaining will, or yìzhì rather, he has to resist. He pushes himself higher from the ground rising further than his arms should be able to push him. His biceps burst with power as they grow to the size of a lesser man’s thighs. Sweat drips down his massive arms trailing from thin but present black hair now filling his pits. Chase looks towards his chest and no wonder his breaths were suddenly nigh-impossible, the buttons had already burst from his dress shirt as pecs had forced themselves from his chest and below them abs defined as those you see on only the most prodigious bodybuilders.
Chase smirks to himself seeing how he has grown. He knew he simply could not let himself fall, his people were zhànshì (warriors) after all. His proud smirk is now truly mirroring his smug reflection. Chase flexes every muscle he can in his more powerful body, feeling the strain of his strength as he tests the limit of each newly formed muscle group. His whole body convulses in pleasure as he becomes acquainted with the power now within him. He feels his hitherto ignored cock grow firm as he feels nothing but pride for his body and his homeland.
Tumblr media
He pushes himself fully off the ground to land on his ass as it too grows to break past the limit of his pants. No longer looking at his reflection Chase feels his thighs tear through his jeans and his feet grow large enough to make finding any replacement shoes impossible. His briefs struggle to hold his still growing erection as he continues to bask in his body and power as he finds himself once more sitting in front of the terracotta soldier.
Rather than seeing it as the financial boon that he intended to when he walked in. Chase now sees it as a testament to the artistry and history that his home country deserves. He feels a fire burn in his chest as rage begins to fill him at seeing such an extraordinary artifact of his culture being subjected to this tourist trap of a museum. His eyes twitch as the last attachments to his old life fade beyond even his subconscious as he remembers the life and history of his real identity.
Chen was not going to sit around and let this relic of Chinese opulence and power be disgraced by this sorry show. He looks down towards his reflection one last time and sees his face now perfectly mirrors the proud smirk that it has displayed since he first saw it. Chen laughs the same laugh he has always known, one deep and slow, as he stands to prepare his repatriation of this terracotta soldier. First things first though, he’ll need a few new friendly faces, a few new countrymen. He makes for the door whispering to himself as he feels his cock surge in his pants, “Dàodǐ shéi lái zǔzhǐ wǒ” (After all, who is going to stop me.)

INFODUMP ON OUR NEW WESTERN AU AHEAD!!!
Flora Galdur: A woman (35) who made herself a widow? Damn right! Mama-bear here killed her husband plenty of years ago, while their son was still just learning to remember things. Reason? She found out he was dealing with the ever so infamous Whitewing Gang. Not only did she become a target of the law, she became a target of the gang. Eventually, she came to help found the Morton Gang, a small group of people whose lives were screwed over by society. Today, she and her fellow gang members are on the hunt for the Whitewings.
Kenny Galdur: The young boy (10) dearly loved by his mother and aunties. He certainly isn't ready for the realities of this world, but he's getting ready. Mama-bear doesn't even know some of the things he's being taught by Iridiana Morton! While he may be a sweet sunshine child, he can be quick for a comeback— the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I suppose.
Malorie Rensong: The detective and informant (28) of the Morton gang. Malorie isn't known for her smart decisions, but she is known for her sharp hearing and- murder?! No, no, that can't be right! She was just at the wrong place at the wrong time! After a few months in prison for being falsely charged with murder, she met a strange fellow lurking near one of the prison worksites, who offered her freedom... For a hefty price.
Vespera Schaffer: Even if she is the youngest (16) member of the Whitewing gang, she isn't to be messed with. She's the last resort for a good reason, and that's because she'll unleash all Hell when she can! She's often scolded for snooping around, eavesdropping, and even directly stalking the others out of boredom and jealousy that they always get to go out on jobs.
Sullivan Schaffer: Vespera's older brother (39) who has the highest price on his head of all the gang, and the highest kill-count. He's the brute force, and a trickster. He fools people into untimely debts, and when they cross the line with him, they get the honor of meeting the end of his pistol. He finds some sort of twisted enjoyment in all of this, but when someone even lays a hair on his younger sister... OH BOY.
Kat's characters, and some of mine are still being written and conceptualized, but yeah
The Morton Gang is run by Iridiana Morton, Flora Galdur's best friend and secret new lover 👀, and is deadset on fulfilling unmet desires, vendettas, and vengeances. While they try to keep a low profile and not break too many rules, just so they have little hassle, there are still some exceptions.
The Whitewing Gang is run by Divian Whitewing, and was founded when the main three members (Divian, Sullivan, and Vespera) started running out of other options to survive. They came to love their new way of life, but the joys of being infamous and rule-breaking come at the cost of the richest man's mansion with how far they come to take their job. While the full-time members may be few, there are plenty of people indebted to the gang, people who want to be in on it for the money but not for the travelling, people who have nothing left to lose.
Yeah you can tell my RDR2 hyperfixation went crazy with this new AU and influenced like- a LOT

Day 26-Overgrown:Promise
Day 26-Overgrown
Other Stories
Promise
August 1972
"Give me a spade and I'll give you a hole!"
"Way-oh on the railroad."
The sound of swinging hammers filled the valley.
"Dirt on my brow, but steel in my soul!"
"Way-oh on the railroad."
Samantha smiled. "At least he's enjoying himself," She said brightly. Nicole glared at her over her cup of coffee.
"Picking up coal and we're picking up speed.
Shovel as much as the engine needs.
Sweat and blood gonna earn my pay.
All the way to Brendam Bay."
"I wasn't told we were assigned to choir practice." She snarked. Samantha just laughed.
They had been assigned to the work crews relaying an abandoned branch of the Wellsworth and Suddery line. Rather than resigned as they had expected, Thomas had been delighted.
"Blowing through hills, tryna make up time."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
"Ain't nothing gonna stand in the way of our line."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
On the way to the worksite, Thomas had revealed that his first job on the North Western had been with the tracklaying crews. They had been the first to paint number one on his sides.
"Picking up coal and we're picking up speed.
Shovel as much as the engine needs.
Sweat and blood gonna earn my pay.
All the way to Brendam Bay."
They had arrived early in the morning, with the sun still below the horizon. Thomas had been in an unusually good mood for the early hour. Annie and Clarabel in tow as the workmen's coaches.
"Boss man says that a mile-a-day's the pace."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
"I'll make two for the look on his face."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
The trouble had started when Thomas had started singing. Now normally this wasn't a problem. It was common knowledge on the Ffarquhar that Thomas was a bit of a songbird. Normally if Thomas didn't spend part of the day singing with his coaches, something was very wrong. So Nicole was used to, secretly enjoyed even, their engine singing.
"Picking up coal and we're picking up speed.
Shovel as much as the engine needs.
Sweat and blood gonna earn my pay.
All the way to Brendam Bay."
The problem was that all the workers had joined in. The world's most famous tank engine was leading over 100 men and women in song.
"Surveyors tryna plan which route is best."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
"Just draw a straight line from east to west."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
The crews quickly fell in sync with the rhythm, and both rail and hammers fell in time with the music. Thomas had also somehow figured out how to puff in time while standing still, which Samantha knew better than to ask how.
"Picking up coal and we're picking up speed.
Shovel as much as the engine needs.
Sweat and blood gonna earn my pay.
All the way to Brendam Bay."
Nicole, who had been excited at the idea of some quiet work for a change, was distinctly unimpressed.
"Spare no quarter, and we'll spare no man."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
"Just pray we don't run into the Fat man."
"Way-oh on the railroad."
Nearly eight hours in, and her fireman was contemplating murder. Thomas had only stopped singing on the lunch break, somehow never singing the same song twice.
"Picking up coal and we're picking up speed.
Shovel as much as the engine needs.
Sweat and blood gonna earn my pay.
All the way to Brendam Bay."
As the song came to a close, Nicole's head fell in relief. "Oh thank the Lady."
Samantha chuckled, "Just a few more minutes, fireman, then we can go home."
She stood and began to walk towards where Thomas sat.
Nicole followed, muttering into her coffee about overgrown canaries.
Thomas spotted them with a smile, "Time to go, already?" He asked.
Samantha nodded, "Come on Blue-jay, we'll have more time for singing tomorrow."
Nicole gave them both a look that promised retribution.
"Can we do one more thing?" Thomas's innocent expression set Samantha's hackles up, and based on the way Nicole tensed, she felt the same. One didn't last long on the North Western without knowing their engine, and Thomas's was when he tried to act innocent.
"And what is that?" She asked slowly.
"Look around the next bend."
Samantha and Nicole glanced over. The worker crews had been replacing the track as they went, so the old tracks were still connected, and Thomas was light enough to run on the old track...
"What's around the corner." Nicole asked bluntly. "I don't know." Thomas said seriously, "This line was blocked off by a landslide several years before I arrived on the island."
Both driver and fireman paused at that, it wasn't often that Thomas didn't know a line, he'd helped build most of them.
Samantha thought for a moment then asked, "As far as you know, it is safe."
Thomas met her eyes and said," As far as I know the only danger would be the wildlife, and you'll be safe enough with me."
Samantha nodded, "alright, I'll get some of the workers to go with us. They could use the chance to scout ahead."
Soon Thomas rolled onto the old track, pushing a flatbed full of workers. They had to go slow over the old rails, but Thomas proved he was the right choice for the job as the old tracks failed to even creak with his passing.
They soon reached an old siding and Samantha stopped them there. The workers got out and began to explore. Samantha hopped down and walked to Thomas front, only to find her engine intently scanning the line before him.
"Thomas, what are you..."
"Look!" Thomas's excited whistle startled everyone in earshot.
Samantha whipped around, looking for what had exited the engine. It took her a long moment, because it was covered in vines, bushes, and the limbs of a neary tree. An old shed stood further up the line.
Nicole leaned out the cab, rubbing the top of her head. “What's so special about an old shed?”
Thomas seemed to hesitate. Samantha stepped up and laid her hand on his running board. "Hey trust goes both ways. You can't ask us to trust you without trusting us a little in return."
Thomas sighed and nodded. "There might be an engine in there. I don't know for certain." He said quickly, cutting Samantha off. "It's possible she was scrapped early, or something could have happened to her in the years since...but last anyone knew she was in a shed on this line."
"Another Wellsworth and Suddery engine survived?" Samantha said incredulously. "Maybe." He sighed. " I only know this because the old engines told me what they knew. She used to run this branch a few years before I arrived. She broke down and they put her in her shed while waiting to be repaired. She needed special parts to be fixed, and they were taking a long time. Whispers started to circle saying she would be scrapped instead. The engines formed a plan to hide her away. Before they could, the storm hit. The cutting leading to the valley suffered a landslide, cutting off the branch line. Management decided to leave the line closed, rather than repair it."
He was quiet for a long moment, "No-one had seen the engine in several weeks. As far as the engines knew, she was left to rust in her shed. We all promised, those of us from before the NWR, that we would find her if we could."
"How likely is it that she's in there?"
Samantha asked.
Thomas looked down, "I have no idea. Even if she is still in her shed, I have no way of knowing if this is the right one.
They were all quiet for a long moment before Nicole sighed, "Alright let's do this. If we need to get an engine to the works I'd rather start sooner than later."
Samantha raised an eyebrow at her, Nicole sighed again, "We both know we won't be able to sleep knowing we might have left an engine behind. Even if she's not in there, Thomas deserves to know."
Samantha nodded and climbed back into the cab. The workers uncoupled Thomas and he rolled slowly down the line. It took several moments for the workers to leverage the rusted points over to the sheds, during which Thomas was almost shaking with anticipation. They rolled up to the shed, where the workers were inspecting the doors.
"It’s barred." The foreman said at last. "There's something in there. But it could be anything, and we don't have the tools to pry open the door, and it would be dark by the time we could get back with them. Even if we had them with us, there's a good chance we'd bring the shed down on us. I'm not sure we can risk it."
Thomas looked crushed.
"I have an idea." One of the workers called. Everyone turned to her. "The door frame is still fairly solid, but the door itself isn't, and I have enough room to wrap a chain around the bar."
The forman hesitated, "would we be strong enough to pull them down?"
"Thomas would be. '' Nicole spoke up. But he could be hit by the debris...or pull the shed down on himself. We wouldn't be able to get him out till morning."
"Thomas?" Samantha asked.
He thought for a second before responding with determination, "let's do it. She’s been waiting long enough. I'd rather risk one night than risk knowing I left her when I could have saved her."
The chain was quickly run and the workers moved clear. Thomas slowly backed up until the chain was taunt then pulled.
A loud splintering groan was heard then suddenly Thomas shot back as the doors gave way. Wood and metal splinters fly by the cab and Samantha heard several thumps as pieces hit Thomas. Dust rose from the doorway, obscuring the view. Samantha slowly rolled Thomas forward, hand on his reverser in case the shed began to collapse.
The dust slowly cleared, Samantha squinting, trying to see in the darkness of the shed. Thomas flicked on his lamp and his sudden whistle of joy made the workers jump.
An engine sat in the shed, blinking away the dust and sleep from her eyes, clearly having been just awakened by the chaos. Beneath the dust and grime, a purple so deep it was nearly red could be seen. Brass lining and fittings desperately needed a shining, but her class was unmistakable. An Adam's Radial sat before them.
Samantha and Nicole's jaws dropped, "Is that..."
"Lady of Sodor! You're okay!"
The engine before them chuckled kindly, "Indeed young Thomas, although I'm afraid we haven't actually been introduced." Her teasing voice was deep and velvety.
Thomas actually blushed, "You know of me my Lady?"
"Of course. My old driver would visit me from time to time, and tell me of young Caomhnóir."
Thomas was blushing deeply enough to put James's paint to shame.
Samantha looked over and saw Nicole absorbing every second with glee. Deciding to delay the inevitable teasing for the moment she spoke up, "Alright we need to work fast if we're to get her to the works before the morning." She hopped down and walked forward to couple the two together, keeping a careful eye on the roof above. "Do you need oil my Lady?"
"As long as we're not going too far, I should be fine. Burnett oiled me last month." Samantha finished coupling the two engines together.
"You get to explain why you didn't tell us why your missing engine was the Lady of Sodor."
"Of course driver." Thomas said innocently. Lady's bell-like laughter rang out as she was pulled from the shed.

How To Get A Builder Service Licence Australia
In Australia, a builder is responsible for the construction of buildings or other structures. They also ensure that the work meets local, state, and national standards and regulations. This includes ensuring that the building site is safe and compliant with workplace safety laws.
The first step in how to get a builder licence is to learn about the requirements for the particular territory you plan on working in. This is a crucial step that can save you from time and frustration in the long run.
There are various criteria you need to meet, including education, experience and financial resources. The process of obtaining a builder service license in Australia can vary from state to state, so it is important to understand the requirements of your chosen state or territory before you start the application process.
You may need to complete a safety induction course, which is the first step of the application process for most territories. This is a mandatory requirement that you must take before you can complete the rest of the application process.
Upon completion of the induction course, you will be provided with a general construction induction card (also known as a white card), which grants you access to construction sites. This is one of the least time-consuming steps of the licensing process, as it only takes about 1 day to complete.
Once you have all of the information and documentation required, you can submit your application to the Western Australia Building Commission. They will review your application and either approve it or request further information before issuing you a licence.
There are several classes of builders licenses, and each requires different qualifications. You should carefully research each class before applying for yours.
For example, if you are a Class C Builder, you need to have a Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) or a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building). You also must pass a written exam conducted by the Construction Occupations Registrar before your license is issued.
Another option is to apply for a Class D Builder, which does not require any formal qualifications. This license is a great way to get started in the industry if you are new to it, or if you have experience but not enough qualifications for the other classes.
How To Get a Builder Service Licence Australia
In Australia, there are many different types of builders and tradespeople. Some specialise in a certain area of building or construction, while others are responsible for completing all types of projects.
These professionals can work on a wide range of construction projects, from housing developments to eco-homes. They are typically responsible for ensuring the building meets local, state and national regulations, while maintaining a safe worksite.
There are many different options for training to become a builder, including short courses, nationally recognised training (NRT), and professional development workshops. NRT combines short training programs or full qualifications like a Certificate IV, while professional development workshops can help you keep up with the latest trends in the industry.

Take Your Efficiency To The Next Level with GPS Tracking
Mining and industrial work can be demanding and risky, which means security and safety are vital concerns in these industries. With such enormous worksites, things can easily go wrong if processes are unorganised or unmonitored, and therefore the level of efficiency has a direct impact on safety. So, if you’re an industrial company manager, you’ll probably jump at the chance to acquire equipment which makes employee and asset management smoother, and creates a more secure worksite. GPS tracking devices can have a variety of benefits for your mining or industrial workplace, as this technology improves efficiency, reduces the risks of the worksite, and makes the company more successful.
What Tracking Your Fleet Means
GPS vehicles tracking involves installing devices in all the vehicles in your fleet, so that you can track their movements and see their exact location at any time. With GPS tracking that uses both communication satellites and mobile phone networks, you’ll be able to locate your vehicles in even the most remote areas of Western Australia. This improves safety for your staff when they’re working in isolated mine sites, or travelling through remote regions, as you’ll still know where they are if anything happens. You can also monitor staff movements to ensure efficient work, and compliance with industry standards.
How Does GPS Technology Save You Money?
Less Expensive Maintenance
GPS tracking provides a range of reports which help you keep note of your vehicles’ maintenance requirements, so you can carry out preemptive maintenance before they require expensive emergency repairs. Vehicle misuse can also contribute to costly maintenance expenses, but with GPS tracking you’ll know how your vehicles are being handled and will be able to prevent this from happening.
Track Expenses
With GPS tracking you can easily do fleet management in Perth. If you’re unaware of how your employees are using your vehicles, then you won’t know when they’re causing unnecessary costs. GPS fleet tracking allows you to track expenses like business mileage, employee fuel use, and other tax liabilities. With this information, you can do cost saving things like determine quicker routes and highlight expensive driving activities, such as speeding or idling.
Data Is The Future Of Efficiency
The data provided by GPS tracking can be invaluable in an industry where efficiency is such an important concern. The device turns complex data into simple and meaningful data management reports which you can use to optimise time, energy efficiency, and resource management on your worksite. Employee management will become easier as well, because your employees will know they’re being monitored and therefore will work more efficiently.
GPS Tracking For Your Workplace
If you’re a mining or industrial company manager, and know you could benefit from improved efficiency in your workplace, then GPS tracking may be the answer. Here at WebTrack, we offer real-time updates on mining assets through our state-of-the-art vehicle monitoring system. We have almost 30 years of experience in the industry, and pride ourselves on our cost-effective yet high-quality systems. Contact our team today to learn more.

OREGON FRIENDS, PLEASE HELP SAVE NATIVE BIODIVERSITY! STOP THE BASALT QUARRY AT LIBERTY HILL!
There’s a really special place of great conservation importance located northwest of Portland, just north of the small town of St. Helens, and it’s gravely threatened by the expansion of a basalt quarry. Before I continue, I think I need to explain what makes this site special.
A lot of people living in western Oregon today are unaware of this, but the Willamette Valley was once dominated by oak savanna. The valley bottomlands were a complex mosaic of wetland types, including shrub swamps and sphagnum bogs, and any upland areas with well-drained soils were oak savanna; large expanses of prairie with scattered oaks. The moist, shady douglas-fir forests that Oregon is known for today were historically confined to the coast range and to the western slope of the cascade mountains. Furthermore, the oak savanna was maintained through a system of prescribed burning by the Kalapuya, the indigenous people who once called the Willamette Valley home. This system of prescribed burns prevented encroachment by douglas-fir; white “doug fir” trees lack fire resistance until are very old, the native oak species, Quercus garryana, is highly resistant to fire, even at a relatively young age. The herbaceous plants that require oak savanna also tend to be fire-resistant, and some of them could be considered pyrophytes; they require periodic fires in order to thrive. Several of them are also edible; the Kalapuya maintained the oak savannas primarily to harvest the edible bulbs of Camas species (Camassia quamash and Camassia leichtlinii), but also because they attracted deer and elk, which were important sources of protein.
After European settlers showed up in the early 1800s, the Kalapuya were decimated by disease. In the 1850s, the people who remained were forced into ceding their land to the United States and rounded up into reservations, where they were nearly lost to a well-coordinated attempt at ethnocide by the federal government.
At this point, their lands had been almost completely lost to white settlers, who began to suppress the prescribed fires long before the Kalapuya were marched away to reservations. Camas fields, which require wet soil in winter and spring (Camassia leichtlinii essentially requires seasonal wetland conditions), were ditched and drained, and the douglas-fir slowly but surely crept into the oaks. Later, once the value of douglas-fir as timber was fully realized, this trend was accelerated by deliberate planting of douglas-fir trees. Much later, in the 1900s, extensive urbanization began to eat away at what remained of native Oregon prairies and oak savanna.
Today, only about 5% of the original extent of oak savanna remains in Oregon. And most of that 5% is in need of restoration or has already lost the great majority of its native species. The very best remnant oak savanna I’ve personally seen still retained a number of plant species that I’d never seen before in person, but was suffering from invasive species brought in by a quarry that was started nearby. And that’s the unfortunate part; because some of the better remnant oak savanna occurs on basalt outcrops in the foothills of the coast range, it is also vulnerable to quarrying.
Which is where Liberty Hill comes in. Liberty Hill is a mosaic of camas meadows, oak woodland, and wetlands occurring on a large basalt outcrop overlooking the Columbia River. I have not visited Liberty Hill in person, but from the photos I have seen, it has somehow escaped the abuses of the last century and also retained its herbaceous plant species, including many species that have become extremely rare in the northern Willamette Valley. I have attached a link to the iNaturalist observations for vascular plants on Liberty Hill and the surrounding area so that other people can see what grows there.
Sadly, Liberty Hill is private land, owned by Weyerhauser. Weyerhauser has leased the land to Knife River, a building materials company that operates other basalt quarries in western Oregon. Predictably, Knife River has submitted a mining permit application to mine out a part of Liberty Hill. The details of how the quarry would affect Liberty Hill are available in the links below, but it would essentially be a lost cause if it were quarried. The hydrology would be changed drastically, causing wetlands to dry out sooner, and these types of operations typically result in the introduction of invasive species, clinging to heavy machinery as seeds hidden in dry mud carried between worksites.
The public comment period for the mining permit is ending TODAY, 3/3/21; if any of my followers on Tumblr could please consider sending an email comment, it would really help. If you have time, writing a unique comment is far more effective than copying the suggestions in the links below. If you don’t like the comment suggestions offered, here are some that I have thought of:
-  Seasonal wetlands are important amphibian habitat for red-legged frogs and western toads
-  Native pollinators require native plants; this is one of the last strongholds for some of these plants in northwestern Oregon
-  Liberty Hill is a time capsule of what western Oregon once was; it is an important reference for restoring similar sites
Finally, your email comments must include the REFERENCE NUMBER FOR THE PERMIT APPLICATION and the commenters REAL NAME and ADDRESS
To make it easier, I have copied the correct email address and project name/reference number below, as well as a simple heading for you to include in the body of the email comment:

I broke my heart this morning when I had a thought along the lines of "one of the greatest things about my partner is he lets me be free"
and like
he absolutely should
and he absolutely does
but it should not be "a great thing"
it should be the bare minimum requirement for every person in the world who ever gets into a relationship. and it is and has been, for me. and I'm very happy that I don't have to spend my life alone searching for a unicorn
but like
the thought shouldn't go "he lets me be free"
I am free
no man should have the power to give that to me
there should be no letting in that sentence
where tf did that thought come from? who or what put it in my head? why do I, a woman in my late twenties, think that my male parter is great for not restraining my freedom? why do I, a woman born and raised in a modern, western society, in one of the most equal countries on the planet, rejoice for having found a man who in my very own words lets me be what by default i already am? why do I, even potentionally, let there be such power in that position?
sadly, those questions are all rhetorical of course. to paraphrase a traditional Finnish proverb: dismantling the patriarchy is, Satan, a worksite

Prevention
Stalking is a crime in most Western jurisdictions, and all workplaces have an ethical and legal obligation to manage stalking behaviour and support those who are affected. Many victims state that they are reluctant to speak with managers and co-workers about being stalked out of embarrassment and/or fear. It is up to the employer to create an environment where victims feel safe to report this behaviour. Central to this is making it clear that stalking victims are not to blame for their predicament, even if the victim was previously in a relationship with the stalker. Employers should also ensure that other employees are made aware of stalking situations when they have a role in managing the risks. A very real danger for many stalking victims is that fellow employees are often unaware of the dangers of stalking, particularly receptionists and others responsible for entry into a business. The most effective way to reduce the impact of stalking is to determine how the victim and other employees can be supported.
Preventative measures
The best way to reduce the possibility of harassment in the workplace is to ensure that all employees understand how to deal effectively with potential problems that may result in a stalking situation. Stalking situations are more effectively managed when employees are aware of exactly what they need to do under such circumstances and therefore feel better equipped to deal with the problem. The impact of conflict is reduced when organisations:
develop and enforce strong policies on what constitutes inappropriate contact and harassment at work, either by clients or co-workers.
develop policies that detail the process for dealing with aggressive or agitated individuals and for reporting complaints, suspicious behaviour and critical incidents.
review policies on a regular basis and ensure amendments are made following any critical incident.
educate management and employees about bullying and stalking behaviours and what they need to do if such a situation arises. It is crucial that employees do not feel that they will be judged as overreacting if they report something that they think might be trivial. It is better to praise the individual for being alert, rather than try to repair the damage that may arise if incidents are not reported.
have policies and procedures in place that provide for the support of victims and employees should an adverse event occur.
When stalking occurs:
Everyone who may have contact with the stalker should be informed about the situation and have a refresher on the policy and procedures for dealing with harassing behaviour. This should be tailored to the specific situation and victim/s. Staff can become frightened when such a situation is discussed, so the issue should be broached in a calm manner, emphasising that there are policies and procedures in place to deal with the situation. It is important to explain that remaining calm and following procedures is the best way to prevent the escalation of any adverse situations.
General Measures for Managing Stalking Situations
Ensure that the victim understands that they have your support and that they can talk about their concerns. This will place you in a better position to understand the issues involved and then plan the best approach to protect the victim and other employees. You need to know if a restraining order is in place, so encourage the victim to disclose the relevant information regarding the worksite.
Review the relevant security issues e.g. site access, car park lighting, bushes that provide hiding places
Try to provide a safe car-park for the victim. Have someone walk the victim to their car.
If possible, allow the victim to work flexible hours so that they can vary the time that they arrive and leave work.
Ensure that staff apply necessary precautions such as screening phone calls and people that come to the office.
If a co-worker receives a call from the stalker or has seen them around the workplace, ensure they know to report it immediately to management and document it.
If a restraining order prohibits the stalker from the workplace, call the police immediately and file a report, should he/she appear.
Ensure that no one gives out any information e.g. days or hours of work, phone numbers etc.
The better your company understands stalking, the better protection you and your fellow employees will have.
Managing Internal Stalkers (e.g. staff stalking other staff)
All situations of harassment in the workplace need to be addressed by management, not only in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but also to reduce the impact on all parties personally, professionally and from the organisation’s perspective. To do so it is important to adhere to the following:
Always maintain the dignity of both parties by listening to both sides and explaining why decisions are being made.
Do not rationalise or excuse stalking behaviour.
Reinforce policies that prohibit harassment, and emphasise the consequences of breaches.
Do not attempt mediation unless the victim is willing to do so. It is crucial that the victim does not feel pressured into a mediation process simply because the harassment has occurred in the workplace. Be sensitive to the victim’s feelings and avoid facilitating continued traumatisation of the victim.
If the stalker has a grievance, suggest appropriate means of addressing the problem (e.g., complaints procedures or mediation), but do not collude with the inappropriate behaviour or inadvertently provide alternative avenues of harassment.
Contact the police if necessary

Enhancing Worksite Efficiency and Comfort with Mining Site Accommodation in Perth
Introduction:
Mining operations require precision, dedication, and often long hours of work in remote locations. In such settings, providing suitable accommodation is crucial for the well-being and productivity of the workforce. Perth, known as a hub for mining activities in Western Australia, plays a pivotal role in facilitating these operations. This article explores the importance of mining site accommodation in Perth and how it contributes to enhancing efficiency and comfort for workers.
The Significance of Mining Site Accommodation in Perth:
Perth serves as a central point for various mining projects in Western Australia, attracting a diverse workforce from different parts of the country and beyond. The remote nature of many mining sites means that workers often need to stay on-site for extended periods. As a result, the quality of accommodation provided plays a significant role in ensuring the well-being and productivity of the workforce.
Mining site accommodation in Perth is designed to meet the unique needs of workers operating in remote areas. These accommodations offer a range of amenities aimed at providing comfort, convenience, and safety to employees. From comfortable living quarters to recreational facilities and dining options, well-designed accommodations contribute to a better overall work experience for mining personnel.
Enhancing Efficiency and Productivity:
Efficient mining site accommodation in Perth goes beyond providing basic living quarters. It is about creating an environment that supports the physical and mental well-being of workers, ultimately leading to increased productivity. Comfortable living spaces, adequate rest areas, and recreational facilities help workers recharge during their downtime, leading to higher levels of alertness and concentration when on duty.
Moreover, proximity to the worksite reduces commute times, allowing workers to spend more time on productive activities rather than traveling back and forth. This not only enhances efficiency but also minimizes fatigue and the risk of accidents associated with long commutes.
Safety and Security:
Safety is paramount in mining operations, and this extends to the accommodation provided for workers. Perth's mining site accommodations prioritize safety measures such as secure entry points, surveillance systems, and emergency response protocols. These measures help create a secure environment where workers feel safe both on and off the worksite.
Additionally, well-lit pathways, designated parking areas, and clear signage contribute to a safer living environment, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries. By prioritizing safety and security, mining site accommodations in Perth instill confidence in workers and contribute to a positive work culture.
Community and Social Interaction:
Mining site accommodations in Perth are not just places to sleep; they are vibrant communities where workers from diverse backgrounds come together. These accommodations often feature common areas where workers can socialize, relax, and engage in recreational activities. Such interactions foster a sense of camaraderie among workers, contributing to a positive work environment.
Furthermore, many mining site accommodations in Perth organize community events, workshops, and recreational activities to promote social interaction and employee well-being. These initiatives not only enhance the overall work experience but also contribute to employee retention and satisfaction.
Environmental Sustainability:
In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on environmental sustainability in the mining industry. Perth's mining site accommodations are no exception, with many adopting eco-friendly practices to minimize their environmental footprint. From energy-efficient lighting and water-saving fixtures to waste recycling programs, these accommodations are designed with sustainability in mind.
Moreover, some mining site accommodations in Perth are located in environmentally sensitive areas, necessitating careful planning and conservation efforts. By integrating sustainable practices into their operations, these accommodations demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship while ensuring a comfortable living environment for workers.
Conclusion:
Mining site accommodation in Perth plays a crucial role in supporting the efficiency, safety, and well-being of workers in the mining industry. By providing comfortable living spaces, prioritizing safety and security, fostering community and social interaction, and embracing environmental sustainability, these accommodations contribute to a positive work environment and ultimately enhance productivity. As Perth continues to be a hub for mining activities in Western Australia, investing in high-quality mining site accommodation remains essential for the success of mining operations and the well-being of the workforce.

Province reports five new cases of COVID-19 with three people in hospital
Newfoundland and Labrador has five new confirmed cases of COVID-19.
The first new confirmed case is a male in the Eastern Health region between 20-39 years of age. The case is related to international travel.
The second new confirmed case is a male in the Eastern Health region between 20-39 years of age. The case is related to travel within Canada.
The third new confirmed case is a male in the Eastern Health region between 20-39 years of age. The case is under investigation.
The fourth new confirmed case is a female in the Labrador-Grenfell Health region between 20-39 years of age. The case is related to travel within Canada.
The fifth new confirmed case is a female in the Labrador-Grenfell Health region between 60-69 years of age. The case is related to travel within Canada.
Contact tracing by Public Health officials is underway. Anyone considered a close contact has been advised to quarantine.
Because of today’s cases and out of an abundance of caution, Public Health is issuing a flight advisory. Passengers who travelled on Air Canada Flight 8016 that departed Montreal and arrived in St. John’s on Thursday, April 29, are asked to arrange COVID-19 testing. To arrange testing, passengers can complete the online self-assessment and referral tool available here or call 811.
There are five new recoveries, two in the Eastern Health region and three in the Western Health region and 1,038 people have recovered. There are three people in hospital due to COVID-19.
There are 33 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. The regional breakdown of the 33 active cases is as follows:
Eastern Health – 15
Central Health – 6
Labrador-Grenfell Health – 2
Western Health – 10
To date, 133,377 people have been tested. People can check their COVID-19 test results online here.
There are no new presumptive positive cases in the province. Presumptive positive cases are not included in the province’s total active case count or hospitalizations until they are confirmed positive by the laboratory. It may take several days for confirmatory testing to be completed.
Once presumptive positive cases are confirmed positive, they are reported in public updates as new confirmed cases. For example, the three presumptive positive cases reported yesterday have now been confirmed and are included in the province’s total active case count.
The province is working closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada and Eastern Health because of a ship anchored in Conception Bay. One crew member is confirmed COVID-19 positive at this time and testing of all crew has taken place aboard the ship. The ship and crew are following Public Health orders as directed by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The department is advising rotational workers about an identified COVID-19 outbreak at the Oilsands Industrial Lodge in Alberta. The department was notified about the outbreak by the Public Health Agency of Canada as individuals from this province work at the site. A list of worksites with declared outbreaks can be found online here.
Rotational workers with this project who have returned to Newfoundland and Labrador in the last 14 days must self-isolate and physically distance away from household members, and call 811 to arrange testing. These workers must now complete the full 14-day self-isolation period, regardless of test result.
The rules for rotational workers from Newfoundland and Labrador who work in Canada that went into effect Friday, March 12, do not apply to workers at worksites where there is an ongoing outbreak.
The case reported on Friday, April 23 in the Western Health region remains under investigation.
Public Health says while it understands the increase in cases is concerning, it is not unexpected given the epidemiology elsewhere in the country. There is increasing increased travel into the province recently. Public Health encourages those travelling to the province to make themselves aware of the Public Health guidelines and to follow the appropriate isolation protocols.
Public Health gives assurances that the recent cases are isolating and there is no concern of community spread at this time. It asks that everyone, including those travelling into the province, remain vigilant and continue following Public Health guidance.
