Disgrace Chapter 3 : Crosshair x F!OC

Summary:

After crash-landing on a desert world, the main objective is getting off of it again. A backwater pirate operation is nothing for the Elite Imperial Sniper, even alone... What's not accounted for is Tah'nyem's draw for bad luck and mischief. They'll have to try to navigate the hostile environment without getting too distracted.

Chapter 3

Not a Crime 

The surface we landed on was powdered with a fine, rust colored sand. Our pod had dug a wide gouge through a forested landscape of thick, tube-like trees that twisted and wove into each other like vines. 

“Careful now, don't touch the trunks.”

Crosshair steadied me by grabbing my arm, keeping me from falling into one of the odd plants. 

On closer inspection I could see that the vegetation was ridged. Sharp needles stood in clumps along the deep channels. 

Still in my thin sleep gown, I didn't fancy getting too close. The warm sand however was pleasant on my bare feet as I was half dragged through the dangerous, gigantic brambles. 

“I need to change,”

I complained again. I had managed to hold onto my pack during the evacuation but we hadn't stopped walking since leaving the escape pod. 

“You need to keep moving, That wasn't a subtle landing and we have no idea who might… investigate,”

I swear there's enough distance for me to put some Kriffing pants on…

But the clone was in full soldier mode and I had yet to really reach him under all that protocol.

Maybe he likes how thin the gown is…

I self consciously looked down at the light colored shift now stained with hazey, rusty streaks. It clung to my thighs and the soft peaks of my breasts, occasionally catching in the tuck point of my buttock. Not exactly covert travel garb. 

Thank Be’llahl it's warm…

“What exactly is the plan here,”

“Find a new ship, get you to a safehouse till we're summoned, keep you off the radar,”

“That's it? That's the whole plan b?”

He didn't answer. 

“What if this planet’s deserted?”

“It's not.”

He pointed ahead at the sky where pillars of smoke stood in sharp contrast against the bright, blue-green atmosphere. 

“Could be a natural phenomenon…”

I grumbled, but it was an impotent theory. Listening closely there was a thumping, mechanical clanking on the breeze. It was most likely some sort of refinery or mining plant… the galaxy was full of them. 

I had tried to check my datapad for any brochures to the place but it was apparently unlisted to the civilian holonet. 

“C’mon, princess. The faster we find a way off this planet the faster you can change.”

He started to pull me along quicker than before and I'm sure I caught a hint of amusement in his voice. At my expense no less… I glowered up at him but if he noticed he didn't react. 

The spiked tubes began thinning out signaling we were near the edge of the natural outcropping, which when reached, dropped off steeply to overlook a massive valley. 

I could barely make out the opposite cliff face, the depression in between vast and filled with a thicket of twisted metal, steam and smoke. 

“What do you think it is?”

“Doesn't matter.”

He swung the rifle from his shoulder and focused the scope to the ground outside the … factory? Scanning a little left, a little right and then out, over the expansive structure. He lowered the gun. 

“There’s ships, A lot of them, But they look rough, we'll have to find one that works and possibly fuel it up ourselves.”

“You think they'll give us one?” 

He paused, turning to me with what I could guess would be a look of controlled confusion… hard to tell through the helmet. 

“I wasn't really planning on asking…”

“Why can't we just buy a ride? I have plenty of cre-”

“Princess,”

Ah, the warning growl.

I shut up. 

“Someone blew up an entire military transport with the intention of you blowing up with it, We stay off record,”

“You don't know they were aiming for me,”

“Don't be dense,”

I was yanked forward again and sighed. 

“You know you should really save the rough stuff for later,”

I had decided to drop the kitschy act around him but damn it, he was pissing me off a little, being so right all the time.

He was skilled at ignoring me by now though and pressed on, checking his scopes from another angle. 

I was about to snag a pair of trousers from my pack but was pulled into motion again. 

“Found our ship, Stay close, Do everything I tell you exactly,”

My pulse quickened at that, though I wasn't sure if it was nerves for what was to come or the image the command conjured. 

Time and place. 

He positioned himself behind me, swinging his scope back up to be level with my eyes. 

“See it? Small, green stripes on the hull. Its engine is intact and the fuel lines aren't dripping,”

“How… how can you see all that?”

I squinted into the scope, the engine panel on the specified vehicle was open but I couldn't make anything out even with the magnification. 

Giving up I looked around the ship we planned on stealing. The alcove was bright with sunlight, causing me to squint as the occasional stray mirror from scattered speeder parts flashed it into the scope. It was far from unattended, the ground a buzz with droids and insectoids bustling to and fro, about eight maybe?

“Uh… how good a gunman are you? Exactly.”

I could feel his chest puff in pride against my back, his voice coming as almost a purr. 

“The best,”

Okay, tough guy. 

…

“Show me.”

The demand caught him off guard, skipping a beat in hesitation. 

He moved purposefully, repositioning his rifle to rest against the well worn plate on his chest and pulled me to him, tucking me under the steadied muzzle.  

It only took a second, but I knew when he found his mark; a wave of rigidity flooding over his muscles as if locking it into place before relaxing into a calm confidence. 

“Cover your ear,”

His voice was close, and if it weren't for the helmet his breath would've been dancing across the back of my neck. I obeyed, cupping my hand over my right ear. 

With a squeeze of the trigger a single blaster bolt shot forth and darted into the alcove the ship was parked in. 

It ricocheted, flashing a wild pattern as distant cries of alarm went up and just as quickly died. 

He gave me back the scope to check his work. 

The alcove was completely cleared. Everything taken down in a single shot. 

“Holy shyte!” 

“That was nothing,”

“No kidding,”

Pleased with himself, he slung the rifle back across his shoulders and pushed me forward again. 

More cries were heard on the breeze as an alarm was raised from the metallic jungle below us. 

“That wasn't really the best move was it?”

“No,”

It was so matter of fact I giggled a little. 

“How hard is this gonna be now?”

“Not any harder than before,”

“How hard were you before?”

He walked into that one. 

His armor jerked slightly, a sharp exhale through his speaker giving away a silent laugh as he helped me carefully pick our way down a steep incline and I relaxed a little. 

At least there's some kind of reaction, I must've caught him off guard again. 

The stoic business-like demeanor he'd been projecting since the pod had been vaguely off putting and I wasn't sure if it was the disruption to the dynamic that had been built till then or the fact that I just hurtled from the sky in a can that had me on edge.  

And it's hard to feel scared when we're charging forward giggling like idiots, right? 

“Don't you ever stop?”

Feigned annoyance. 

“Not when I'm nervous,”

The levity was short lived as we descended the cliff side. He finally reached even ground and turned to lift me at the hip, picking me up off the last ledge and setting me next to him.

“Don’t be nervous,”

Easy for you to say, tough guy.

Luckily, the denizens of the metal monster hadn't really guessed where the lone shot had come from and they appeared to be scrambling trying to figure out what was going on. 

“New plan,”

We skirted around and away from the commotion, making our way towards the further side of the factory. 

“There's another junk yard this way,”

The place seemed to be a processing plant for salvaging scrap from ships, the outer walls consisting of mismatched metal streaked in bloody rust and corrosion. A shrieking, thumping, ringing din rose from within. My hopes of us finding a nice, usable getaway craft were dwindling. 

We made our way around, stopping at a gap in the protective collage of scrap where the rust had completely eaten through and ducked inside. 

There were towering walls of partially crushed and destroyed ships stacked to form tight aisles in what had to be a labyrinth of twists and turns. It reached to either direction from where we came through and Crosshair motioned for me to be silent. 

I could tell he was listening and I focused as well. There were definitely people here, drifting about, none too many. From the snippets of common I could make out these stragglers didn't think there was much cause for the alarm. Good.

My arm was taken and I was pulled to the right and away from the congregation of gossiping workers. The path between the metal columns grew tighter, and I slowed, once again made aware of the delicate shift and bare feet I was dressed in. 

“Stop.” 

I whispered hurriedly and started to quietly reach into my bag. 

“No. Not now,”

“C’mon, just some slippers, It's a death trap in here!”

He was annoyed but his visor dipped to look down at my ankles and he acquiesced.

Did you seriously miss that I was barefoot? Tunnel vision I swear… 

Finally, I reached in and found the silk flats I was looking for, triumphantly slipping them on my feet. 

A gurgling whine went up behind us and we turned and looked up. 

A winged insectoid perched on top of the column screeching a warning to his crew. 

Ah varp.  

Without even an, “I told you so,” Crosshair swung me forward and out in front of him as he aimed a blaster back the way we came at the pursuers already pouring into the narrow corridor. 

“Run.”

I ran.

There was only one way to go and I bolted down the path as fast as I could, uttering a prayer to the void that we'd end up somewhere useful. I could hear an exchange of blaster bolts and was pushed up against the wall with an arm hastily thrown over me, the ground scorched where I had been. 

I darted on again, more determined to find a way out and trusting Crosshair to keep us safe from behind. He was tapping the walls periodically as we went, he had to be coming up with something. 

The straight path ended and split into three. There were already pursuants down the leftmost path, and little time to deliberate, so I pivoted us down the right towards sunlight. 

I scuffed the wall of hastily assembled debris, and almost fell as I took the turn wrong. I could feel fire alight on my side where abrasions no doubt were blooming from the ungraceful scrape. No time, I kept moving forward trying to fix my stumbling gate when suddenly the ground ended and I was sliding in sand between the stacked pillars. 

Crosshair fell against my back and wrapped an arm around me to steady us, turning behind us and squeezing off a final shot as we reached the end of the ramshackle shoot and rolled onto a belt. It darted, bouncing off of little mirrored pucks that now strategicly dotted the makeshift corridor in a dizzying light show. Our pursuers fell every few meters, the rest tripping over the fallen. 

The conveyor beneath us shuddered rhythmically, moving at a slow, ungainly pace, shaking the sand. Bits of jagged metal and plastics emerged from the sediment quickly falling away from our ankles. The line shifted under my feet carrying us upwards before evening out again, showing me what was shaking the belt. 

A giant column of metal was bearing down on the automated line. The pedal end, the size of a ship itself, swung and rolled across the conveyor, crushing the sifted debris flat before dumping them into a grinder with a sickening crash. 

Oh good. 

Crosshair quickly hoisted me up and over the side with him and we plunged down to the next layer of moving belts. He landed hard, losing some wind as he “caught” me with a thud.

Then we were up. He had taken my hand now, pulling me to stand, then running as best as we could. There was flattened scrap piled at our feet as we made our way down the narrow incline, slowing our progress with sliding unpredictability. The air was starting to grow hotter, and I could only assume the column ahead of us was some type of furnace. 

A buzzing clatter filled the air as Insectoids dropped onto the conveyor to either side of our position, training their weapons towards us. 

“What are karken Genoans doing out here…”

Is that what they're called?

I was dipped as Crosshair dropped to a knee, pulling me down for cover as he shot the two to the left. Next, I'm up and spun against his back. He opens on the ones to the rear. The group scatters as the middle man falls, his body slumping onto the belt, but not before he spit some kind of fluid at us, slapping across the snipper’s visor. The fallen bug-man disappeared as the channel ended, dropping him into the incinerator with a delayed flash of sparks. 

Up and over again, I was lifted as my guard calculated another jump over the edge. Atop a rusted casing for some whining machine, smoke, and then darkness as we dropped into a hollow shaft. For the moment we were safe. Sort of. Pistons periodically pressed into the space to either side of us, the loud mechanical groans as they shifted in quickly and then pushed back against a hydraulic regulator were raising the hairs on the back of my neck. 

Eerie and too, too close.

We stayed there, still and listening. There were a few low, buzzing voices talking under the belt we had jumped from. I could barely hear it over the thrusting piston, but it sounded like they might be giving up and scattering. 

Please believe we fell in… please just go away. 

Other thoughts were spinning through me in the sudden stillness. 

Why such a fuss for scrap?

Irritation flared up as it occurred to me how shady and complicated my life had suddenly become, the questions I suddenly had to account for… 

I was supposed to be shopping with Kahtzi on Coruscant right now. 

I looked up at the helmet above me. The front of it was covered in a thick sticky gunk. I was surprised he could still see through it at all.   There was no telling what he was thinking through that thing, but the tension in him seemed to signal that he was listening too, barely breathing. 

“What do you think they're really doing here?”

I whispered but a hand was clasped over my mouth anyways. 

We stayed silent and still, the voices drifted away and we waited another second, two? before squeezing out of the piston housing. 

Looking around the tight aisle between twisted pipes and gauges I spotted an armored door to the left of us and pointed it out. 

“Can we get in there?”

He turned to see what I was looking at and grabbed my hand again, ushering me inbetween the varied obstacles of metal and rust. 

Pull forward, spin to avoid a jet of steam, held to him as we step through a small gap, spun back out front. 

I giggled. 

“What's so funny?”

“Oh, nothing … was just thinking you dance better than some Dukes.”

The motions were so fluid, it was hard not to make the comparison. 

“We're not dancing.”

He pulled me to face him again as he moved me through the next gap, and dipped me under an obtrusive pipe.

“Says you, I’ll definitely need you to escort me to the gala after all this,”

I laughed lightly and we reached the door, it had a good old fashioned magnetic lock. 

Crosshair, ignoring me again, located the power supply line and severed it with a calculated blaster bolt, quickly pushing me back against the forest of metal limbs. 

The lock went dark, and we waited. It didn't seem like any additional alarms were sounded. 

Safe so far. 

To the door and inside, I closed it behind us. 

Quiet … so far. 

I turned to get my bearings, it seemed like we had found our way into a storage warehouse of sorts. Crates stacked high to the ceiling along every wall, and grouped onto the floor through the middle. I couldn't make out anything left or right, being too dark, but the roof was open here in the middle and it filled the room with warm light. 

The clone had removed the ruined helmet and began rubbing dirt into the goo, wiping it clean. Sensing I had a moment, I reached a hand in my bag again.

The cloak draped over me and I slipped my arms into the sleeves. The gray, floor length fabric was light weight but should help protect my skin.

I looked over at Crosshair, hoping to regroup now that we were in the belly of the beast and still no closer to finding a ship of our own. He was still preoccupied trying to get a clear line of sight through the eyepiece. 

Checking both ways down the stacks of crates… there didn't seem to be anyone in here. 

Strange…

I strode over to a grouping of containers near the middle of the room and pressed the mechanism to pop the lid. 

Oh?

I grinned, sifting my fingers through the powder within. I pinched some bringing it close and took a small whiff of the dust. 

After a moment, the sting of the scrapes I sustained in our spirited jaunt through the factory started to subside. Feel good even. 

Spice. Carsunum to be exact. 

I was familiar with the common varieties of Spice, was part of the job. Father made sure I had a decent tolerance at a young age. For protection, of course. Can't be overwhelmed by a small spike slipped by an unscrupulous client. 

Carsunum specifically was rather important to our business, being engineered for a reverse tolerance to battle the addictive nature of the drug. Better for the employees who needed to imbibe frequently with clients. The only reason I could feel it now was due to my familiarity, the feeling was unmistakable. 

I turned to Crosshair, checking the perimeter, and wondered if he ever really partied before. 

Can't be all work, no play, right? Guy’s so tense. 

He finished his sweep and finally turned back to me, standing over an open crate of contraband. 

“What the kriff are you doing?”

I close the lid with a snap. 

“Looking around.”

The tiny dose I inhaled wouldn't do much, but I wasn't feeling aches, pains or that healthy apprehension anymore. 

Ignoring my sudden lack of caution, I turned to investigate the crates shadowed by the overhang. They were behind fencing, with some additional locks.

What do we have here?

I skirted the laced wire, finding a gap that aligned with a lid. It was simple enough to just… reach in and press the latch, allowing the lid to pop open. 

My heart sank a little, as I observed the rows of palm sized, carefully packaged black bricks inside. A hundred? Two? A rough calculation in my head and I felt a little ill. 

I reached in, shimmying one out with my fingertips and carefully extracted it through the fence. 

Crosshair had been trailing me apprehensively, and I turned to show him the small brick. 

“We have to go. Now.”

I turned and eyed the warehouse.

There's got to be a loading dock. Close. 

“What's that?”

I held it up.

“This means that whoever owns this smuggling operation isn't someone to kark around with.”

“Then why did you take one?”

I smiled at that. I had only served this variant of spice to a guest once, it was the type of thing only royals can get their hands on. 

“Cause you keep calling me princess,”

It was mostly a museing, I wasn't really sure myself, but a shyte ton of rare drugs and I wasn't supposed to sneak one?

He stopped me, grabbing the hand with the package and holding it aloft. 

“Put. It. Back.”

I tried to free myself. 

“No, We're wasting time enough let's just go,”

The package in my hand burst in a cloud of sparkles and I was being dragged down and behind the stack of crates. 

I watched as the shining dust glimmered for a moment, and then fell into a dark black ash as the sunlight rendered it inert. 

Oh well. 

What was that she had…

I froze. 

We had dove away, the sunlight… I didn't think we had gotten any, but that was fast. 

I turned to Crosshair, who blinked a few times in a dazed kind of way before moving to slip his helmet back on.

Oh I am about to be sooo detrimental…

He was looking at me, stiffening when he realized I wasn't speaking aloud. 

There's wasn't much time to address this little predicament, as we both turned at the cluster of thoughts tingling to our left flank. 

We stood and lifted our gun, we saw… everything. There was a strong, leeward wind. 

There you are old friend. 

We pulled the trigger. We hit our mark. 

I tried to hold onto myself, struggling to quiet my thoughts. It was kind of working, and I sunk into him, becoming small mentally, letting him work as I observed the mechanisms in this ultimate act of voyeurism. 

Another target, another mark made. The wind was our guide. Angles and beautiful shadows, a canvas trapping our enemies in focus.  

His calculations, my metaphors. 

New thoughts, congregating on our right flank. 

We draw our pistol and fire. We stare them down as they round a corner of crates. Squeeze the trigger, one, two, three down. 

I was staring down my arm and a small moment of shock rippled through us. 

I had drawn his side arm and he had used me, my line of sight, to fire behind us.

I let go again. Giving him control and feeling his consciousness burn my cortex as he slipped into my mind purposefully this time. I retreated to the quieter parts of him, nestling into his subconscious, feeling everything that was him around me. The feeling was… exquisite?

No, erotic…

The dark, shadowy silk of his inner workings wrapped in an ever moving spiral around the thought of what I was, holding it together, caressing against the raw concept of me.

It dawned on me why our client may have wanted this stuff and a tremble went through the man against my back as the thought raced from me to him, causing a shot to go wide. 

Later

I purred and sank back into the role of observer, I could feel new calculations forming as he took information from my eyes.

Point, shoot, point, shoot. 

He was hitting the mark but I could feel a mounting frustration at how much slower my body was, the difficulty of controlling two minds, and well, the overall psychedelic effect that was linking us wasn't easy to focus through. 

Despite all that, It didn't cost us much. A bit of effort and we managed to clear the wave of workers that had been closing in. Escape was still the main goal here, we just needed to make it. Perfection comes later. 

We looked around, the extended range of view making us slightly dizzy. There were distant footsteps that grew louder by the moment, signaling more security to fight through. Gotta move before then. 

We picked our way carefully to the far end of the warehouse sliding through another door into a dark, loud chamber. Chains swung threateningly from the ceiling and the floor hung high above a pit I couldn't see the bottom of. The air was hot, heavy with the smell of burning mineral. 

I glanced at my escort, walking in tandem stride. He was superimposed over the image of the walkway, I could see as he did, but the spectacle was the hallucinations. His inner world projecting around us, all storm and thunder and crashing waves. One moment the walkways, the next a tempest. I could almost see raindrops gathering on his armor.

The metal walkway tinked with the sound of non-existent rainfall as we made our way around the drop and through a new set of doors. 

A raucous noise met us as we passed into the next chamber, drowning out the disembodied thunder. Moving machinery again, hot steam, and a hazy dust making it hard to see. I put my hand on the armored back in front of me, trying to stay in step and not think too much. 

The path narrowed between spinning belts and pistons, but it looked like the room beyond opened up. I stuck close as we started the squeeze between the machines. 

We took it slow, shuffling along the tight channel with hot metal just inches to either side of us. 

Yank

I jolted backwards, a sudden force dragging me away. I tightened my hold on the plate I was touching, but the force was too fast and I barely gripped his side before being snapped too far to reach. 

The robe was tightening around my armpits, and I turned to see the hem sucked into one of the belted obstacles, it was disappearing quickly and I could feel Crosshair's mind fighting the panic that now poured from me, trying to find a course of action through the frenzy. 

A swift kick with his boot heel and the belt came loose, giving him time to pull me from the twisted fabric before it slowly wound itself into the gear with a loud whine. 

I was gasping against him, the skin around my shoulders an angry red where the tight fabric had cut into me. There was no doubt some friction burns but I was grateful I couldn't feel it for the moment. 

I get it, universe. No more putting clothes on. 

Regret seemed to shift between us as we emerged from the tiny passage into a wider area.

There

We had spotted the long, port doors that should lead to a dock. Taking steps in unison, we swept the area and made our way across.  

My mind was being flooded with mental schematics. Scenarios. My skills being assessed against them and then rejected. Frustration again. A wish that someone was here. Many someone's. Heartache…

He was drifting into thoughts I wasn't supposed to see. I tried to untangle myself from his synapsis, suddenly conscious of how naked we were to each other, but the glitterstim was still coursing through us. What was he seeing of me? 

I wasn't too sure if these were the normal effects, but I could easily chalk it up to a synchronized will to live and the dosage. I quit trying to close the connection for now, there wasn't any use. 

Stroking the shadows of his subconscious where I was still mostly tethered, I looked at my reflection in the pain that was sinking back into the stormclouds. Feeling the way our lungs and hearts had started to move in unison.

Just a will to not die at the hands and/or pincers of  insectoid drug runners, that's all this is about…

There was a disappointment to that conclusion that wasn't mine. Or was it? It was becoming hard to tell.

I opened the door, we slipped through and into the bright sunlight. It made it easier to parse out which thoughts were all me. We were alone still, a little time before we would be located. 

We had been right about the loading bay. A few commercial ships milled about, with more modest, personal craft lined up behind another fence. 

We clung to the wall, keeping an eye on the few silhouettes moving around the larger vehicles, and made our way to the smaller ships. 

Crosshair took a knee by the fence, and I stepped up, letting him take my foot and lift me over. 

I caught a glimmer of a thought about how small my slipper was, the shape of my legs then I was on the other side of the fence. 

In a moment he was with me, and we moved with purpose scoping out the surrounding cruisers. 

He selected a small craft in black, and tapped the keypad, making sure it was unlocked. 

Of course he goes for the black one.

I heard that. 

I poked him in the rib, and he chuckled, surprising me a little. 

Didn't think you were ticklish. 

I'm not. 

The feeling that talking like this was strange washed through us, and I tried to keep my head clear while we boarded the ship. 

He darted into the cockpit and started checking the fuel and core levels. Can't have another ship explode on us. 

Not great, we'd have to refuel to get to the coordinates. 

Should we pick another? 

He quickly walked out the port and ducked into the ship next to us. It didn’t take long until he was back again. 

They're all stored without fuel. Have to do it ourselves. 

I hopped out with him this time. And we looked back at the loading docks. The bright lights and line up of cargo vehicles made the fueling station obvious. The dock behind it should have separate pumps. 

How do you figure, princess?

I manage a business. One where retrieving shipments, this means hanging out on shipping docks, is one of the many facets of my work.  

I wasn’t able to completely hold back my annoyance, the “princess” thing  was actually rather patronizing. I tolerated it cause… well…

He had winced from the initial irritation rolling off me but settled into a somewhat swaggerish stride by the time my train of thought had petered out and I cursed him a little. Rolling my eyes.

Give a guy a meter.

I’ll- 

…

The thought was cut off abruptly, and I smirked at him, amused.

“You’ll”… What, tough guy?

We need to get to those pumps… and hope a usable ship is close by.

Fine, don't play.

We linked step to the side of the fence and kept low as we picked our way over to where the fueling station was glowing even in the bright sun.

Staying low now, we made our way through sharp piles of junk and trash, slowly approaching the chugging line of old, beat up, cargo barges. 

Once even with the nearest ship another calculation rippled over him and I was scooped up and held tight as we went up over the embankment and slid down the other side to the packed dirt that made the makeshift ship lane. 

He bolted between two barges as they shifted forward and dived, tucking my head as we rolled and were through, pressed against the opposite ditch of trash. 

I looked up from where I was still held to his shoulder, and scoped a path up and around to a dark hanger behind the main pump site. 

Three separate smaller pumps sat in the shadows, waiting. 

I tried sending him the visual as I saw it but it took a moment. The connection was starting to fade and it was hard to share more than a surface thought. It… ached a little. 

He seemed to get enough of the picture though, and made towards the path I had picked out, putting me down once we had reached decently even ground again. 

A few droids stumbled into our path and were dispatched, but otherwise no hiccups. 

I was starting to grow uneasy. It was taking them too long to find us actually, we shouldn't have had this much time. 

A glance at Crosshair's hurried movements as we entered the hangar was all I needed to confirm he was thinking something similar. We were getting very lucky. Luck doesn't usually last. 

The hangar was empty besides a scattered team of droids loitering around the pumps. Some rapid fire and they were down, and we paused, listening, waiting, finally moving again. Usual looking racks lined the walls holding various tools. Pallets hung from the ceiling stacked with canisters and dark husks of droids.

The pumps we were looking for were at the far back standing by a large, sliding door that had been stuck ajar.  I glanced through it, hoping luck would hold just a bit longer. 

The sun was held back by the long shadow of the roof, and in that shadow…

“Ha!”

I had to stifle the sudden mirth, but it was just so droll. 

Crosshair appeared at my shoulder and I could sense question on him but that was all. 

“Look,”

I whispered instead, pointing through the gap to the ship parked just outside, ready to be filled and launched. 

Small. Green stripes on the hull. 

“Kriff me,”

He chuckled too and leaned against the framed opening. 

“Let's get the kark out of here, Start up one of those pumps, I'm going to clear any stragglers,”

I stopped, making sure no one was summoned by the clanging and lowered the coiled bundle, taking the pump end and dragging it instead. The soft zip of it uncoiling in the sand put me on edge, it was too soft to carry, but sounded loud to me and I was getting jumpy. 

I left the nozzle by the open door, not thinking it was wise to leave the relative safety of the hanger before Crosshair said it was clear. Instead I checked the status of the pump.

A door slammed open towards the middle of the hanger, spilling light suddenly into the shadowed building. I dropped behind the pump but there wasn't anything more solid to duck under. I tried not to breath.

“If I catch that little nerf who cost me a block, a whole Kriffing block, of glitterstim I'm gonna skin her alive. Right in front of that partner of hers. Where'd they go? Were we able to track them on the holocams?”

Shyte, shyte, shyte.

The steps grew closer, seeming to make straight for the gapped door.

The last I saw her I had just come of age and was sitting in with my fathers meetings for the first time. During his hostile takeover of Ah’Jso’s district on Coruscant.

“Girl, you owe me quite a lot of credits suddenly, You're a smart one, what do you think that brick cost?”

She tossed me at the droids that had accompanied her in and turned away, plotting to make a holocall. I glanced at a shadow that darted into the hanger and back out again, catching a glint off of Crosshair's visor as he found an angle on Ah’Jso.

I tried to catch his eye and shook my head subtly. 

Can't shoot her, Bad for business. I'm probably already causing a lot of disruption as is…

By the amount of spice in the warehouse, and it's proximity to Ga’haiian space, we probably got our spice from her too, and I had just racked up a debt. Not exorbitant, but better not insult her further.

Ah’Jso was giddy with preoccupation, wondering what to do with me to make the most impact on my father; it seemed she had forgotten I had backup for now. 

Crosshair's shoulders dropped in what was probably exasperation but he lifted his muzzle, looking for a different way to get me out. 

“Maybe,”

She turned back to me, grinning,

“Maybe I get my biggest, ugliest bugman in here and have him rip your arms out their sockets on call!”

A bolt briefly lit the hanger, and Ah’Jso glanced around in confusion.

Seconds later, a pallet of canisters fell from the ceiling, one or two igniting on impact with the sandy ground. 

The small explosion threw me and the security droids to the side in a cloud of dust. More blaster bolts and I was being grabbed and dragged, through and out. 

He had already plugged the fuel line into the shuttle ship and hit the button to release it as we passed, spilling fuel onto the ground. 

“And I couldn't shoot her because?”

“Business partner.”

I left it at that as we boarded and slammed the door shut. Lowering myself shakily into a seat in the cockpit I flicked a few prep switches as I went wanting to be moving quickly. 

Another loud boom rang out behind us, the fire had reached a fuel line and the door next to the ship bowed out at the new inferno inside. 

Cross slung into the seat next to me, strapped in and finished the launching procedures. We were moving, directly up in a stuttering motion as we fought a narrow launch path and another explosion threatening to throw the craft into one of the giant scrap piles. 

Just as we cleared the height of the factory walls the fire reached the tanks just below us and the resulting flash threw us the rest of the way clear. He punched the throttle, sending us bolting up through the atmosphere. 

I winced as I observed the fires blooming below us. 

“Shyte… I think she might be dead anyway.”

“They were pirates weren't they?”

“Yeah, guess that's what you'd call ‘em.”

“You can’t work if you’re sick,” She argued. 

“Honey, there’s no such thing as calling in sick on the road,” He sat up, chuckling at her concern, “I’ll live,”

“Well, you need to rest. I’m driving today.” She snatched the keys from the table before he could. 

“I don’t need no kid taking care of me,” He scoffed, but fell back to the bed as his head throbbed.

“I know, Jesus, you know what I meant,” He groaned as he sat back up. He dressed slowly as Brinkley loaded the car. She made him lay in the backseat as Scott walked up.

“Thanks,” She still couldn’t help but eat up his attention, “By the way, you’re at my mercy today,” she said jingling the keys, “Hennig is sick,”

“At your mercy, huh? I think I could handle that,” he looked her up and down again as he threw his bag in the trunk, “Sick? What the fuck happened to you, Curt?”

“No fucking idea,” He was irritated by their banter already. 

“He’s got a fever,” Brinkley said, looking back over the seat as she slid into the driver’s side, “But he still has to wrestle?” She did feel some real concern for him.

“Yeah, unless you are completely incapacitated, you better just suck it up,” Scott slid in as well, wishing that he’d driven instead;  he could think of things she could do to pass the time. 

“That's not fair,” Brinkley frowned,  but knew full well professional wrestling was about the most unfair industry that she knew. 

Curt stayed in the car while Scott and Brinkley went into the gym. She tried to keep things as normal as possible,  but everyone could see that they were definitely closer than before. The sideways glances, the knowing smirks, the murmured comments all made the rest whisper among themselves.

Brinkley waited in the car while the rest went to the tanning salon, bringing Curt water and checking on him. “You don't have to thank me, I'm always here for you as a friend at the very least. Maybe I could fight your match for you,” she teased. 

Curt smiled,  his eyes still closed, “You'd do that for me?” He imagined her against Kevin in the ring.  She'd be like a little chihuahua biting at a Rottweiler's ankles.

“Of course,  I owe everything to you,” she felt his forehead again,  it felt slightly cooler, but still feverish. 

“That's probably a dangerous thing to say to someone,” Curt looked up at her, “but you're not wrong,”

“I think that's the first time you've ever called her by her actual name,” Curt realized,  “Don't tell me you're going soft…”

Kevin scoffed, but laughed after.

“Shut up,  Hennig,” he said, unlacing his boots.

“He may not like you moving in on his territory,” 

“He doesn’t own her,” Scott snipped a little, “She can do what she wants,” He shrugged, but knew he’d rather have her exclusively. 

“Maybe I’ll take a run at it, I mean as long as she’s handing it out,” Kevin wanted to see what kind of reaction Scott would give him. He had a suspicion that Scott may have been a little smitten, when he should be in it only to get his rocks off. 

“Dude, back off. She’s not like the rest of those whores,” Scott vaguely referred to the female talent that was more interested in notching their belt than winning one in the ring. 

“You sure about that?” Kevin posed the question. He was only bringing it up to make sure Scott was thinking straight, but it was likely not going to work after a night at the bar. 

“Back off,” Scott warned him once more. Kevin just sighed and shook his head. 

Scott didn’t bother to see if Curt was still awake, carrying Brinkley into his and Kevin’s room and laying her in his bed. Kevin was not thrilled with the idea, but Scott wasn’t interested in his opinion on the matter.

“She’s sleeping, I’m exhausted. Just go to bed and forget about it,” Scott suggested, climbing into bed himself. He hoped he’d pass out soon to keep his hands from doing their own wandering.

Scott woke first, feeling a little lethargic, but not terrible. He heard Kevin’s occasional snore and felt Brinkley against his side. She must have nestled up to him in the night. Her bare thigh lay over his and her skirt had bunched around her waist in the night. He probably couldn’t get up to get a condom without waking Kevin up. He cursed at that fact. 

He wondered if he could wake her and sneak her to Curt’s room - he might have a better chance at letting her work out his morning wood. 

Several sharp raps at the door stirred everyone, Scott cursed again as he rose to answer it. 

Curt stood at the door, looking irritated as he immediately looked around Scott into the room, seeing a waking Brinkley. 

“Jesus, at least let me know what’s going on when you leave,” Curt was relieved, but still upset over waking up in his room alone, wondering if she was ok. 

“Sorry,” She mumbled, rubbing her eyes, “I think I passed out,”

“Well, it's not these guys' job to make sure you don’t fall down drunk, that’s my job. Let’s go,"he snapped. 

Brinkley slid out of bed, embarrassed by being chastised by Curt in front of Scott and Kevin. She couldn’t bring herself to snip back at him now, but she would when they were alone. He couldn’t treat her like a child just because he was pissed off at her. 

Scott didn’t like it either, Curt should know he wouldn’t let anything happen to her. But it didn’t seem like the time or the place to confront him about it. He would have his hands full of Kevin’s smug ‘I told you so’s’ this morning.

“You didn’t have to embarrass me like that,” She snidely remarked as Curt slammed the door behind him. 

“Oh, I didn’t?” He stood with his hands on his hips, “I was just supposed to assume you weren’t in a gutter somewhere??”

“Good god, you knew I was with them,” She rolled her eyes, taking a handful of tylenol, “I know how to take care of myself,”

“The hell you do,” He seethed, “If you knew how many of those guys backstage would fuck you and not care if you wanted it or not, you’d never leave my side,” 

“They do not,” She replied, but not sure if she believed herself. 

“I’m not saying you can’t trust anybody…but you have to be more careful than most. It's not fair, but that’s what it is,” He wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her. 

“But you knew I was with Scott,” She tried to reason.

“Yeah, but I don’t know if he really cares about you or if you are just an easy hole to fill,” He didn’t like the words as they left his mouth and he could see that they definitely struck her harshly. She looked away from him, crossing her arms across her chest protectively. 

The silence that stretched between them was thick and he regretted his tone more by the second. 

“I’m going to take a shower,” She replied, more meekly than she’d like, but her voice was shaky. 

Curt cursed silently to himself, running his hand through his hair. He knew part of him was upset that he woke up feeling completely better and wanted to see if she would still be receptive like she almost had been the night before. She deserved to know he cared about her. She didn’t deserve to be slut-shamed for doing something he was mostly responsible for anyway.

He sat on the bed, leaning forward on his knees as the shower stopped. She opened the door, looking out as if hoping he’d left. He felt guilt gnaw at him again. What a mentor he was. 

“Brinkley, can you come here for a minute,” He asked much more kindly than before. He could tell she was skeptical, but tightened the towel around her. He was relieved when she walked up to him, “I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have said that to you,” He reached out, taking her hand in both of his. He leaned his forehead against her knuckles, “I was worried, probably jealous, not thinking straight. That’s all on me, not you,” 

Brinkley felt relief spread over her with each word. She did not like feeling as if she’d disappointed him. She craved his approval so much that anything to the contrary felt awful. But she also realized she couldn’t let him know that he could manipulate her so easily. 

“Thank you,” She said, not pulling her hand away, “I know you care about me and I’m not saying you shouldn’t worry. But you can’t treat me like a china doll or some toddler. I might be young, but I’m an adult and if I make bad choices, I have to live with the consequences. I’ll never learn that if you keep trying to fix everything for me.”

Curt nodded, still looking at her hand. 

“And yeah, I don’t know Scott like you do, and I’m young and dumb still, but I don’t think he’s just using me.” She wanted to believe her words, just hoping they were true, “But…if he is, then I’m going to have to deal with that,” 

“I know. I know I have to back off, I just didn’t know it would be so hard,” He looked up at her, realizing that he’d been so cocky that he hadn’t reigned himself in like he should have, “I’m sorry,” he looked up at her with genuine sincerity. 

Brinkley resisted crawling into his lap to make him feel better. That was exactly what he was talking about. They had blurred too many boundaries and it wasn’t going to do either of them any favors to keep blurring them.

At the ring in Cedar Rapids, Curt sat down with Brinkley as they sketched out her new outfit. They were able to scan and upload the sketch and email it to his contact.  After a brief phone call, the details were solidified and Brinkley was extremely excited, only bummed that she'd have to wait at least another week and pick them up during the Florida leg of the tour. She was grateful Curt generously paid for it to be expedited.

She let Kevin’s remarks from the bar roll off her back as he and Scott worked with her in the ring. Curt remained a silent observer, though he had to bite his tongue multiple times.  But he was relieved when Brinkley would fall back on what she learned from him. 

“You're sandbagging him, girl,” Scott called out as she took repeated bumps from Kevin body slamming her. 

“I know,” she said, laying on the mat out of breath, “Sorry,  just tired,” she spun up though, ready to take another. She jumped better this time, making his lift effortless, but instead of slamming her down, he carried her across the ring. He handed her off to Scott, who laughed, flipping her so she was lounging in his arms instead, “Cute…” she narrowed her eyes at Kevin, “You really showed me,” she scoffed sarcastically.

Scott leaned into the side of her head, mumbling softly.

“Get ‘im, tiger,” he encouraged her smart mouth. He sat her on the top turnbuckle next,  turning his back to her and leaning into her.  She rested her arms on his shoulder.

“Gotta get through him if you wanna get to me,” she referred to Scott as her shield and he snarled In Kevin's direction.

“Jesus, get a room,”  he rolled his eyes stepping over the top rope, “ 15 minutes, then we're back at it,”

“I can make 15 minutes work,” Scott leaned between her legs more.

“I'd rather you have as much time as you want,” she whispered back.

Curt tried not to look on too much,  but to anyone it would be obvious that something was happening between Scott and Brinkley. He wished people backstage would let them be,  but that was unlikely.

He had to admit, Brinkley might have been on to something about Scott’s interest being genuine.

After the break, Kevin brought in a local female wrestler about Brinkley's size. It was an adjustment working with someone not hulkingly larger than her. It felt different,  it felt more real. The match was as basic as could be,  but all three men complimented her afterwards as she thanked the other woman for sparring.

She couldn't stop smiling in the back of the car on the way to the venue, thinking about how somehow she managed to find people that would help her, even if they weren't necessarily her biggest fan. 

Curt noticed her happiness in the rearview. He needed that to be his goal, he needed that reaction to make him feel like he'd done his job and it was working.

Tonight was another TV night and though she was nervous, Kevin still ribbed her about how long she wanted to make out that night. The more he did it,  the more she was irritated by the joke,  but the more she thought of a way to finally get him back. 

She dragged Scott to a quiet place the first chance she had.

“Finally,  I wanted to ask you a favor,” she whispered in the dark hallway, she looked around the corner to make sure they weren't followed.

“You read my mind,” Scott leaned down, holding her face as he kissed her with some urgency. She couldn't push him away, gasping with surprise, but letting her arms wrap around his neck. He was already dressed and partially oiled up. She oddly wondered how he’d taste if she blew him directly from a match,  still sweaty and spent. She tried to shake the torrid thought from her mind. 

“As much as I'd like to keep that going…I had another idea…if you think you're game,” she pulled away from him with regret.

“You look like you've got something pretty devious,” he noted the wicked gleam in her eyes, “What do you need?”

The crowd was definitely reacting differently to her and Curt, booing Kevin as he walked in after them, accompanying Scott.

Curt and Scott locked up and Brinkley knew to keep Kevin in her periphery at all times.  Even as she jumped up on the apron to distract the ref, she kept Kevin in sight. She interfered with Scott’s cover and he stomped Curt once more before stalking her. He grabbed her by the hair as she tried to free herself, wagging his finger at her. He encouraged Kevin to step up to the apron and dragged her over towards him. 

“No,  no,  no!” She tried to pull away from Scott as she neared Kevin. But just as Kevin closed his eyes and stuck his lips out for an animated kiss, Brinkley grabbed Scott’s waist instead, pushing him into Kevin's waiting kiss. The men's lips touched and both reacted animatedly disgusted. The venue filled with laughs and cheers, Curt rolled a distracted Scott up for a three count. 

He slid out,  celebrating with Brinkley on the side as Kevin and Scott acted furious. Brinkley pointed and laughed, waving her fingers at Kevin as they backed up the ramp.

“That was pretty damn good,” Curt said into her ear while the crowd still cheered, “You come up with that on your own?”

She bit her lip and nodded, still giggling. She beamed as she could see the pride in Curt's face, “I got him so good,” she stuck her tongue out at Kevin from afar. 

She owed Scott big for the assist. She couldn't say she hated the dark, angry look he was shooting back at her. 

She made sure that someone was between her and the doorway when Kevin and Scott returned to the locker room. Everyone was watching one of the two as Brinkley paced and kept herself somewhere with an escape plan.

“I didn't think you had that in you, Brink,” Kevin said.

“Maybe I have a flair for theatrics after all?” She tried to keep a straight face, but it was becoming increasingly difficult.

“You got me back, you embarrassed the opponent, you got a hell of a pop from the crowd…I'm pretty sure you just got yourself a spot in the next pay-per-view,” he counted off the points on his fingers, “and even better, you got Creative's attention. They are wanting to talk tonight,”

“This isn't one of those things where you try to get my guard down then jump me in the back is it?” She narrowed her eyes at him, but looked at Scott, too.

“I promise, this is on the level.  Get dressed and let's go,” Scott affirmed. She hoped she could trust him,  she was too excited not to.

And if you don’t stretch, the muscles can shorten and become tight, which can limit your range of motion and put you at risk for joint pain or a pulled muscle. But stretching is only beneficial if it’s done correctly. There are a few common stretching mistakes that can lead to the exact opposite of what you’re looking for, such as injury and inflexibility. Here are eight pitfalls to avoid so you can improve your flexibility and your workouts. 1. You’re Doing the Wrong Type of Stretching There are two main types of stretching: static and dynamic. Static stretching is what you probably remember from gym class: gradually stretching a muscle and holding a pose for about 30 seconds. Stiles’ reluctant groan fills your ears before you hear him give an exaggerated yawn and his arm lets go of you as he stretches out. Instantly, your body misses his touch but you push yourself off the bed and call the first shower.

The warm water of the shower was amazing on your body and you couldn’t believe just how relaxed you had found yourself this morning. Typically you had minor aches that the warm water would help with but this time there were no aches, nothing sore, no pains - just the comfort of a warm shower in the morning.

When you got out, you had thrown on a fluffy towel before you called out Stiles’ name, asking him what was on the agenda for today.

“Snorkeling and scuba lessons,” he reminded you as he passed you and you mentally rolled your eyes- Lydia had told you as much yesterday.

As you heard the water start up again, as Stiles jumped in the shower, you grabbed your duffel bag. Finding it empty you reminded yourself that you, Stiles and Lydia had unpacked all the clothing and you moved to the drawers. Quickly pulling out a couple of the swim suits, you decided to go with your most comfortable swim suit and after slipping into it you did your hair. You had enough time to grab Stiles a pair of his swim trunks before you heard him turning off thew water.

“Sti, I left you your swim trunks,” you called out as you slipped on some shoes and threw on a cover up, “I’m gonna get some breakfast with the pack.”

Making your way out to the kitchen, you most of the pack in the main part of the villa. Luke was making breakfast fo the group and Kira and Alex were helping him out.

“Anyone else notice that it’s the non-Alpha’s that are out here making breakfast?” Malia pointed out after a moment. You looked around and realized that she was right, it was you, Malia, Kira, Alex, Lydia and Luke.

“Mason’s not an Alpha,” Lydia pointed out and you heard Luke practically snort.

“It’s still us out here,” Malia scoffed and your small group had to laugh.

“Guarantee its only cause we were the ones to actually get up,” Kira points out, “Getting Scott out of bed this morning was a bear.”

“Jordan wasn’t much better,” Lydia confirmed with a shrug, “he seems to be exhausted.”

“Well we are on the other side of the world,” Malia said with a shrug before grabbing a water bottle.

“I pretty much told Stiles the same thing,” you said with a chuckle as you made your way over and grabbed the coffee pot and a cup and made yourself a cup.

Sitting at the breakfast table, sipping your morning coffee, you allowed yourself to just enjoy the time with your friends. It didn’t take long before the rest of the pack was up and about and after a decent breakfast, it was decided that it was time to make your way down to the docks to meet your boats.

You made your way back into the bedroom, thankful that Stiles had bought you a diving mask, snorkel  goggles, fins, and booties last year when the two  of you had decided to go to Cabo for the weekend and you were even more grateful that they still fit.

She and Jordan checked you in before you were split up into two groups of six. You and Stiles went with Theo, Malia, Lydia and Parrish.

Your instructor, Seru, took you on one of the smaller boats and out into the waters, to Beqa Island Lagoon and just far enough for you to enjoy what the waters of Fiji have to offer he says.

You were grateful that Lydia had booked this particular diving company. The group of you had been out snorkeling before but the way that this man explained things just made you feel more at ease.

It also helped that the company provided inflatable snorkeling vests because you hadn’t bought any while in Cabo and you’d forgotten to buy one before coming  and weren’t sure where to buy them on the island.

He checked with you, confirming that you knew what you were doing and you were aware of the basic safety procedures and risks involved with diving.

You were each paired off, coupled up of course, but everyone was planning on being the others snorkeling buddy. As a pack you took care of each other. It helped that Malia and Lydia were here with their mates which meant they were more attuned to each other.

It had been the reason that Scott and Kira had decided to go with Liam, Alex, Mason and Luke.  They were the youngest and newest couples. Ever since Liam had joined the pack, Scott had always treated him more like a little brother then just an Omega and once he and Kira had gotten back together - they treated the youngest members of the pack almost like their kids.

You were sure that you were going to meet up with them during your small expedition in the water and you and the rest of the pack would all end up looking after each other but your instructor was worried more about your small group and theirs would be worried about them.

After the safety protocols had been gone over and he had confirmed which of you were paired with who, the instructor had decided to go ahead and let you all get in the water.

Jumping in with Stiles and the others it took your body a moment to adjust to the waters but thankfully it wasn’t too bad, the warmth of the water was nice and after the water settled you could see the others in the water as well.

You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned around, Stiles offered you his hand and you placed your hand in his. The two of you started to explore and you find that the reef is absolutely beautiful. It’s full of the most beautiful coral formations you’ve ever seen. The colors are absolutely fantastic and with the sun reflecting around them you find yourself getting lost in them.

There’s fish that you’ve never seen and a part of you is tempted to reach out but you remember that the last time you’d been snorkeling Stiles had managed to get stung by a jellyfish.

So you kept your hands to yourself outside of just swimming.

Stiles tried to keep his eyes on the rest of the landscape he really did. He tried to pay attention to the fish they’d never seen. The coral formations, the sea anemones, even the turtles. However, his eyes kept getting dragged over to her.

Logically, he knew that the world around him was beautiful. He knew that they’d likely not get a chance to see the barrier reef again.. At least not this one… but he kept getting distracted by her.

He was unsurprised that he couldn’t keep his eyes off her. Long before he’d ever presented, he was drawn to her like she was the sun.

It had gotten worse after he’d presented and he’d had a hard time staying away from her. Something within him had always demanded that he claim her. He’d wanted to but when she hadn’t presented after a few years… He hadn’t cared. He still wanted to be with her but  then Chris had told them about how Alpha’s could only be with Omega’s… that only an Omega would be able to take his knot.

So he’d waited… he’d waited for her to present as an Omega because that was the only thing that had ever made sense. From everything Chris had told them… With how much he wanted her, she had to have been an Omega.

But she had never gone into a heat… she had never presented as an Omega and Chris had confirmed that it meant that she was a beta… like the majority of the world.

Then she had decided that they should stay friends only. She didn’t want to stop him from being able to take an Omega should he find one.

But she didn’t stop… she was the only thing that he wanted. Nothing else had mattered and he’d gone to talk to her about it but he’d read it on her face. She’d asked him to leave it alone and he knew that it broke her as much as it broke him.

So he’d agreed.

Breaking his heart in the process, he’d agreed.

It hadn’t stopped him from  wanting her… hadn’t stopped the Alpha in him from wanting to claim her.

She was the absolute light of his life.

But Stiles loved her… he respected her wishes and so he’s done everything he can the last couple of years to make sure that he respected her wishes. He had done everything he could to just stay her friend.

There’d been Omegas that had thrown themselves at him but they’d always disgusted him. They never smelled as divine as she did.

He’d avoided her during his ruts because he knew… he knew that if was around her when he was that out of his mind.. He’d want her and he knew that his need for her… whatever that primal voice he was able to ignore, would win out and he’d claim her. He’d hurt her and that was the last thing he’d ever want to do.

It had worked for the most part…

But the last couple of weeks since his last rut… it had been harder to not think of her that way, of what she would look like with his marking on her shoulder. What she would look like as she presented herself to him and what it would feel like as he sank into her and stretched her to him, how she’d clamp down around his knot… he did his best to shut it down when those thoughts appeared.

So yes, his gaze kept getting dragged over to her, no matter how hard he tried and his shorts felt uncomfortably tight even in the water but he did his best to focus on the  world around them.

It wasn’t working and Stiles felt like he needed a breath of air. Looking around, he caught sight of Theo who gave him a knowing look. Sending the were-coyote a desperate look,  Stiles waited until Theo simply nodded.

Quickly, Stiles made his way for the surface. No sooner than his head had broken through and he was gasping for air, taking large gulping breaths as he treaded above water.

The sound of their instructor calling his name caught his attention and Stiles had to turn to the man. Taking a moment to actually focus he realizes that the mans asking if he’s okay. The boat isn’t making its way over but he can see the life ring has been tossed out, floating just a little ways away.

The boat won’t come any closer in case there are others also on their way up.

“I’m fine!” he calls out to the man as he waves his hand in the air before giving the man the okay signal they’d been taught. ‘

Taking a few deep breaths, he allows his body to relax, forcing himself to get back under control before he dives under again and while it takes him a second to actually spot the others, he does so quickly and makes his way over to them.

It’s as he’s swimming over to them that he can see you making your way towards him, Theo and Malia just behind you. It isn’t until you’re close that he can see your face is twisted in worry and it throws him off balance for just a second when your body almost slams into his.

Your hands are instantly moving and it takes him a moment to realize that you’re actually signing to him.

Thinking back to the classes you’d gotten him to take, he  realizes that you’re pointing at him and then one hand is flat while the other is parallel moves against it in an almost fishlike move before you point at him again.

You do this movement a couple of times and Stiles eventually realizes that you’re asking him if he’s alright. He can’t remember how to sign that he’s fine but thankfully, he knows you paid attention to the instructor and he uses the same signal to tell you he’s fine…

It had been a small school of Masked Butterfly fish that had caught your attention and you’d turned around to get Stiles’ attention so he could see them too when you’d realized you couldn’t find him. You’d been looking around, moving enough to cause a ruckus and Theo had caught your attention. Pointing towards the surface and waving his arms.

Without a second thought, you’d propelled yourself upwards when you’d seen Stiles making his way back towards the reef. It had taken a bit of effort and you’d thanked swimming lessons when you managed to not slam into him.

A quick signed conversation later you realized he was fine. He’d probably just needed a little more air and didn’t wanna disturb you.

The group of you had been down for about seven minutes and you’d thought he would have still had air in the little pump thing they gave you guys, after all it was supposed to last ten minutes, but you shrugged it off.

Turning around, you realized that you could see the Butterfly fish not too far off and you still wanted to show Stiles so you pointed it out to him. But your lungs were starting to need more air so you motioned that you were heading back up for air real quick.

He nodded and followed along with you. When the two of you broke water, you gave him a skeptical look and all he did was smirk at you before pointing out, “Buddy system.”

“You left me alone!” you reminded him, playing at outrage.

“First off, I  did not, I told Theo to keep an eye on you,” he rebutted, “and besides, you didn’t even notice”

“For like a minute!”

“A minute I could have drowned in!” he dramatically grasped at his chest, making you laugh at his antics.

“Alright point taken,” you told him as you splashed some water at him,  before asking “but let’s go see the Masked Butterfly school then?”

“Which ones were those?”

“The yellow ones,” you remind him with a roll of your eyes.

You can hear Stiles laugh but shake your head before making your way back into the water. You meet up with Malia, Lydia, Jordan  and Theo.

Eventually, however, Scott, Kira and the others joined you and the pack simply enjoyed an early morning of snorkeling. You found that it was some of the most beautiful sights you’d ever seen. One of the things that you liked about traveling was the sights that you didn’t get in California.

Sure Big Bear was pretty, the beaches could be gorgeous and Yosemite was absolutely breathtaking but getting out of your little world.. Getting to travel and see the rest of the world. Well it always left you a bit breathless.

The Fijian reefs were so different from the ones you’d seen in Mexico. Perhaps it was just your memory but the colors were a thousand times brighter and you knew that there were animals you hadn’t seen in the waters in Mexico.

Kira and Alex seemed to be having a blast with it. Dragging each other towards different things.

You, Lydia, and Luke all got together and explored the area.

It wasn’t long before the morning got away from you and you each heard your respective instructors calling you back towards the boats.

Once you were on the boat, you slipped on the cover-up before you had Stiles tie the backing straps and you slipped on his shirt.

Thankfully, the company had decided that they would honor Lydia’s request and decided they would drop you off on the other side of the island. It would take about 30 minutes to get to the other side.

You curled up with the girls and the three of you chatted away happily. While you didn’t mean to, you found your gaze kept sliding over to Stiles.

Having kept his shirt you had noticed that there were drops of water shining off his skin.

You could feel your breath catch in your throat and you must have been staring because a moment later, you can feel Lydia nudging you and when you look over, Malia’s giving you a knowing look.

You can feel your skin heat in embarrassment.

“See something you like?” Lydia teases you.

“Of course she does,” Malia chuckles and waggles her eyebrows at you.

“Shut up,” you mutter to the two girls.

You can hear both Theo and Jordan holding back a chortle and out of the corner of your eye, you can see both of the male's shoulders shaking.

Turning slightly, Stiles catches your eye and gives you a questioning look. Shaking your head all you can do is laugh softly because of course, this is how things work out.

Stiles merely shrugs at you before turning back towards the guys and the three of them seem to continue whatever conversation they’d been on.

You could feel your heart practically pounding in your throat and the girls just gave you knowing looks

Rolling your eyes, you shook your head.  It’s not like you weren’t actually aware of Stiles. Quite the opposite in fact.

Thankfully, they didn’t press the issue further and the three of you fall into your own conversation until, thankfully, you make it to the island again.  Scott, Kira, and the others are just behind you.

“Alright, let’s do lunch!” Stiles points out with a clap of his hands as you all get off the boat and his arm finds itself over your shoulders and you smile softly as you scoff softly.

Thankfully everyone agrees and you decide to go ahead and do some sightseeing after the fact.  The group of you find a smaller restaurant and, unsurprisingly, are advised that due to the size of your group, you’re going to have to wait for a little bit.

You catch up with Scott and Kira who are telling you about how their guide had actually suggested a pretty delicious family-owned restaurant for you to have dinner at. Apparently, they had taken a lot of the classic Fijian dishes and added American twists to them. Something they had learned the Americans appreciated.

The dishes were actually smaller dishes and served like samplers. You got to choose which one you wanted most. It would be a set of three, the dish that was the fusion, the American dish that it was fused with, and the classic Fijian dish that was the other half of it.

The idea sounded intriguing enough that mostly everyone seemed to agree with it. Theo, Liam,  and Alex were a bit more hesitant but they had agreed to it either way.

As the pack sat down and enjoyed their dinner, you all decided that you wanted to get back out in the water. Lydia had already suggested scuba diving and, thankfully, there was an area further out that you could go scuba diving in.

After some back and forth, Scott, Liam, and Theo thinking it would be better to get out there today, and Lydia, you, and Kira arguing that it would be better to get out there later this week as you’d already spent the morning in the water. Eventually, everyone agrees to go ahead and make it a trip for later in the week.

After lunch, the pack had decided that it would be good to explore the island a bit. After which, you would meet up at the villa before making your way down to Ivi Restaurant in order to enjoy a good night of food and some good old pack bonding.

Unsurprisingly, everyone kind of paired off with their significant others. You and Stiles started going through the small island where you knew you were obvious tourists, sticking out like a sore thumb in the crowds but you enjoyed it anyway.

You explored the little shops and made sure that you bought something from the locals. Things that were locally made. You’d promised yourself when Scott had taken the pack on their first out-of-country trip and Stiles had done a bunch of research about how some of the areas had issues with their own cultures disappearing because of tourism.

While buying the work didn’t fix the issue, it did help the people that lived in the area and you figured that was the  best possible action you could take.

While you were going through the shops you actually ended up meeting up with Scott and Kira, who had been doing pretty much the same thing. The four of you hung out for a little bit and as you moved through the island, you found yourself catching up with both of them.

You hadn’t actually realized how long it had been since you’d talked to either of them. So, linking your arm with Kira, pulling her closer to you with Scott and Stiles on either side of the two of you.

The four of you explored a few more shops and before you knew it, it was late enough in the day that you made your way towards the villa.  On the way, however, Kira wanted to stop and grab some groceries for the pack.

Nothing big, mostly just making sure there were some snacks and fruits that the pack could snack on. It had been something that she’d actually wanted to do yesterday but with how tired everyone had been and how much sleep she needed, she’d decided to hold off.

You had made your way through the island and had found a local outdoor market. Thankfully, you were able to get some items pretty quickly. It was mostly a lot of nuts and fruits but seeing as how that was something the entire pack was going to enjoy.

You and Stiles checked out a few different stalls for yourselves, trying to find something that you might want just for you. Picking up some strawberries and some nuts you were walking by a stall when a woman called the both of you over.

She offered you both a drink that was in a coconut shell. The thing was that it didn’t smell all that great and looked like maybe it was supposed to be water but it wasn’t actually very clear.

Looking over to Stiles, you knew he could see the question on your face and thankfully, he stepped in, clearing his throat, “Ummm what is it?”

“Kava,” the woman tells him, “It’s for you and your wife. It’s to relax, to smile, and for better sex.”

You can feel your skin heating up and you kind of want the ground to open up and swallow you whole.

Stiles’ face flushes a pretty red and you know that he’s feeling the same way. It’s the same look he’d had last night with the masseurs. He looked panicked and this time, you figured you’d save him.

Clearing your throat, you stepped forward, somewhat between him and the woman and cleared your throat, “Thank you… umm.. It will be good for relaxation.”

She looks between the two of you almost questioningly but you simply take the drink from her and shrug your shoulders.

Thanking the woman, you offer Stiles a soft, slightly embarrassed smile before the two of you make your way back towards the villa with Scott and Kira not far behind you.

Once you make it to the Villa you find that the rest of the pack was already there. They had apparently decided to make the most of their varying time with some intentional couple time.

It took you all of half a second to realize what that meant for some of them and you didn’t bother to bite back your laugh. After all, it had to be uncomfortable for the were’s in the group to have to listen to or smell some of the others.

Malia had shoved you with her shoulder, as retaliation, as she walked by her. Making you laugh even harder.

“Don’t be a jerk,” she mutters to you, “Too many scents.”

“You could’ve left,”  you point out to her, sticking your tongue out.

She merely shrugged her shoulders and offered you a wink.

“Well as wonderful as this all is,” Lydia’s voice cuts in, “We have reservations. Go get ready, all of you.”

You can see Stiles out of the corner of your eye and you know he’s rolling his eyes before he gives Malia a mock salute with two fingers making you laugh,

The two of you make your way back towards the room you’re sharing and you know that the others are making their way towards their rooms as well.

Rummaging through your clothes you realize that the last resort you had stayed at had a dress code when you went to the restaurants and you had no idea what this one was.

“Hey Sti?” You ask as you turn around from the clothes on your side of the closet and towards the brunette who’s holding up a set of different shirts, a regular t-shirt, and a button-up.

He looks up, meeting your gaze and he’s thinking the same thing because he smirks and asks you, “Dress code right?”

You nod your head and he’s practically bounding out the door, likely in search of Lydia, and you chuckle as you pull out a couple different options. Thankfully, you had brought a pretty stable wardrobe for the week with a few statement pieces that could either make an outfit more casual or more dressed up.

Grabbing Stiles’ flannel that you’d slept in and a clean pair of underwear, you made your way towards the bathroom

While you were showering, Stiles’ voice echoed through the bathroom,  “Lydia said they told her smart casual. But make sure you wear pants cause they’re expecting cold weather.”

“Got it!” you called out from under the water.

Once you were out of the shower, you walked out to find Stiles had changed into a pair of dark blue jeans, a black shirt, and a black button-up that he had thrown on top of the shirt. The sleeves were rolled up and you were treated to the sight of his forearms, one of your personal favorite features of his.

You must have stared too long because you can feel his eyes on you and you glance up to meet his eyes. He’s giving you a knowing look and you can feel your skin heat up.

“Don’t look at me in that tone of voice,” you tell him.

“I didn’t say anything!” he defends himself, a laugh on his lips,   and you can’t help but snort.

“Your face did,’” you tell him as you cross over to the closet and grab a pair of dark blue wash jeans, a white cotton shirt that’s loose and flowy in the front, scooping down further in the front but it’s not so loose that you drown in it.  Going through your shoes, it takes you a second but you settle on a pair of black sandals you had brought specifically for the beach. Everything else seemed either too casual or too… much.

You stick your tongue out at him, playfully, before you start to make your way over towards the doors when Stiles calls your name. A glance back and he’s lifting his jacket, a reminder that you need your own.

“Right…”

You make your way back towards the closet and grab the caramel-colored pleather jacket that he’d gifted you last year for Christmas and you shrug it on, happy that it’s just enough to keep you warm and comfortable enough that you can move mostly freely in the material.

The two of you met with the rest of the pack a few minutes later when Lydia got a look at your shoes and practically screeched in outrage. All you could do was raise an eyebrow at her and share a confused look with Parrish who just signed as he shook his head affectionately while the redheaded banshee ran to their shared room. Before anyone could actually say anything, she was out of the room again. A pair of nude heels with a thin strap across the toes and around the ankle with a thick chunky heel for you to use.

“Use these,” she practically hissed at you as she shoved the heels into your arms. Trying not to chuckle, you nodded your head and did as you were told.

You’d learned long ago that when Lydia was on one of her fashion moments, it was best to just follow along and do as she asked.

Finally, finally, after what had felt like forever - the pack made its way towards the main part of the island. You had to take another boat to get to Ivi Restaurant.

Thankfully, someone, likely Lydia or Mason, had had the foresight to call ahead and when you got there, you were only waiting a few minutes before your large group was being seated.

The table had a beautiful view of the ocean and you quickly took a seat on the side of the table where you would be able to see it. Would be able to watch the sunset over the beautiful water as you and your friends enjoyed the night.

Everyone ordered something. Luke had even asked for a possible vegan option - something that had thrown the waiter off for a moment before she asked you all to give her a second.

She came back with the chef a few minutes later who, after talking to Luke and getting his preferences, asked if he would trust her to put something together.

Luke had wholeheartedly agree before the woman had nodded and made her way back towards the kitchens. You all sipped on your respective drinks and talked about what you had done during the day… meaning most of the conversation was about Kira, Scott, Stiles and you as the rest of the group had made the most of their time just being a couple while the four of you had managed to actually explore.

You felt your eyes widen as Kira shared about your trip to the market. Apparently, she had overheard the woman about you and Stiles when she sold you the Kava and you couldn’t help but drop your head into your hands as the rest of the pack just laughed at your poor misfortune.

Thankfully, before you could scold any of them, the food came out.

The chef had made Luke something that looked like a taco that must have been tofu-based, something that looked for all the world to be green curry, a salad that was filled with local fruits that had to be in season currently, including oranges, and a rice dish that smelled like heaven.

The pack just spent the night together, the  moment settling something in your soul as you got lost in this moment.

With these people that you called home.

Time had flown by and the next thing that you knew, you felt a hand on your thigh. Looking over, you saw Stiles motioning towards the water behind Luke.

Following his line of sight, you felt your breath get caught in your throat at the site in front of you. You had seen beautiful sunsets before but there was something about the way that the sunset over the beautiful crystalline water took your breath away.

Stiles had to remind himself to breathe.  One of his favorite things was to just watch you. It always soothed something in him, made him feel warm inside in a way he couldn’t really explain. Looking at you now, he felt his heart catch in his throat, the way that your face lit up at the  sight of the sun setting in front of you.

Stiles couldn’t properly describe it but if he did have to put words to it…. Well it was like watching an old man, blind from cataracts, being gifted with sight again and seeing the world with an appreciation that most people would never know to have… that most people would never know to even consider.

That was just Y/N’s way though. When the rest of the world was too busy to notice the beauty in front of them. Hell even when the pack was too busy to notice the beauty in front of them, she always noticed it. She always took the time to see beauty in the world around her and, in return, the world gifted her with the most beautiful sights to exist.

BLOG- WEEK 1

From theory into practice:

Your first week of fieldwork. How does treating make you feel?

Initially even before starting fieldwork, the transition from assessment to intervention seemed intimidating and which resulted in me being nervous on my first day. We arrived late on our first day due to transportation problems, when we got there, we all did not know where to go so we struggled with finding the place, but the securities helped. We were welcomed by our supervisor Helen and Zinhle, from there we had time to introduce ourselves and the supervisor. We were then orientated by the resident OT, Nadine who told us about the ins and out of the hospital, she informed us about the protocols, and what is expected from us as OT students, especially when handling the clients and about the no falls policy. We were also introduced to the other OT’s who welcomed us well. When we were left with our supervisor, her welcoming and calm nature helped calm us down as everyone was nervous of starting the block. We then had a tour around the hospital where we orientated to the different wards and the resources of the facility. After the orientation we were then given our client’s names which we will be working throughout our block. On the first day we were only able to introduce ourselves to the clients and do a mini interview as we did not have much time left. The second day was a bit better as we were then able to start with planning our intervention as we were able to do activities with the clients and some standardised assessments to assess residual function which will help when planning intervention.

During the second day we also had a donning and doffing tutorial where we were taught the correct ways of wearing PPE’s and what type of PPEs to wear when. This was very helpful as we are approaching the 3Rd wave of COVID 19.

The clients that I got were responsive during the interview and both were welcoming but the second client was holding back as it was as if he was not comfortable with sharing personal information and was very vague when talking to me. The first client Mr N who has left CVA, ‘Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is the medical term for a stroke. A stroke is when blood flow to a part of your brain is stopped either by a blockage or the rupture of a blood vessel. There are important signs of a stroke that you should be aware of and watch out for.’ Mary Ellen Ellis.2018. Some of the signs that Mr N presented were blurred vison, right side weakness and dizziness. The assessments that I managed to do with Mr N are Upper limb Muscle strength and Range of Motion and we played cards which the first part of it was a card memory game and then we played crazy 8 where I was able to observe bilateral hand function, motor planning, sequencing, and hand eye co-ordination. Feedback from my session was very helpful as some of the things I would not have thought about. The supervisor gave me structuring feedback that I had room to improve the client’s trunk control and dynamic sitting balance by allowing the client to sit unsupported even in a wheelchair by providing cushions and maybe removing armrests. The feedback will help me in the future when planning intervention and also look out for grading opportunities that will still benefit the client and further facilitate an improvement in function.

My second client, Mr M is paraplegic, T3/4 Spinal cord injury and utilises a harness for support. Initially I was frightened with handling the client as this is the first time encountering someone who is paraplegic and was afraid of doing physical activities with the client. My supervisor helped orientate me firstly towards the diagnosis and what factors I should look at when handling client e.g looking at residual function, working with that and improving it. I was not able to do any formal assessments with the client as he was always busy with either the physio or the OT, this helped me as I was able to observe during session and I was then able to see the client’s abilities and limitations, he has adequate static sitting balance which is supported by the harness. Observing the client during activities was of great help as I got a better understanding of the client. ‘Spinal cord injury is the Damage to any part of the spinal cord or nerves at the end of the spinal canal. A traumatic spinal cord injury may happen because of a sudden blow or cut to the spine. A spinal cord injury often causes permanent loss of strength, sensation, and function below the site of the injury.’ ‘Paraplegia. This paralysis affects all or part of the trunk, legs, and pelvic organs.’ Science Saturday: Mayo Clinic research is a step toward hope for spinal cord injuries.

One thing my supervisor said that was mind-blowing and which helped calm me down and refocus on what I came here to do rather than trying to perfect everything in my learning stage. She said, ‘More than anything we are here to learn.’
