Your Song
Written By: Elton John & Bernie Taupin
Artist: Elton John
Released: 1970
Cover included: Ewan McGregor for Moulin Rouge!, 2001
The song was composed and performed by Elton John but the lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. It originally appeared in his self titled and second album. Elton John hadn’t come out of the closet yet, but Bernie Taupin knew, which is part of the reason why the lyrics avoid using gendered pronouns. In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, Elton John said: “What can I say, it’s a perfect song. It gets better every time I sing it. I remember writing it at my parents' apartment in North London, and Bernie giving me the lyrics, sitting down at the piano and looking at it and going, ‘Oh, my God, this is such a great lyric, I can’t fuck this one up.’ It came out in about 20 minutes, and when I was done, I called him in and we both knew. I was 22, and he was 19, and it gave us so much confidence. ‘Empty Sky’ was lovely, but it was very naive. We went on to do more esoteric stuff like ‘Take Me to the Pilot,’ of course, but musically, this was a big step forward. And the older I get, the more I sing these lyrics, and the more they resonate with me.”
[Verse 1] It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside I'm not one of those who can easily hide I don't have much money, but boy if I did I'd buy a big house where we both could live [Verse 2] If I was a sculptor, heh, but then again, no Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show I know it's not much, but it's the best I can do My gift is my song and this one's for you [Chorus] And you can tell everybody this is your song It may be quite simple but now that it's done I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind That I put down in words How wonderful life is while you're in the world [Verse 3] I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss Well, a few of the verses, well, they've got me quite cross But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song It's for people like you that keep it turned on [Verse 4] So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do You see, I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen [Chorus] And you can tell everybody this is your song It may be quite simple but now that it's done I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind That I put down in words How wonderful life is while you're in the world [Outro] I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind That I put down in words How wonderful life is while you're in the world

Demolition Lovers
Written By: Matt Pelissier, Mikey Way, Ray Toro & Gerard Way
Artist: My Chemical Romance
Released: 2002
The Demolition Lovers are the couple seen on the cover for MCR’s next album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. This song, along with much of the album, is a prequel to the story of Three Cheers… in which a man makes a deal with the devil to get his dead lover back by killing 1,000 evil men and giving the devil their souls in exchange for her. This song is most likely where the lover dies. The two “Demolition Lovers” are featured on the cover of the album.
[Verse 1] Hand in mine, into your icy blues And then I'd say to you, "We could take to the highway With this trunk of ammunition, too" I'd end my days with you, in a hail of bullets [Chorus] I'm trying, I'm trying To let you know just how much you mean to me And after all the things We put each other through and [Verse 2] I would drive on to the end with you A liquor store or two keeps the gas tank full And I feel like there's nothing left to do But prove myself to you, and we'll keep it running [Chorus] But this time, I mean it I'll let you know just how much you mean to me As snow falls on desert sky Until the end of everything I'm trying, I'm trying To let you know how much you mean As days fade and nights grow And we grow cold [Post-Chorus] Until the end, until this pool of blood Until this, I mean this, I mean this, until the end of [Chorus] I'm trying, I'm trying To let you know how much you mean As days fade and nights grow And we grow cold But this time, we'll show them We'll show them all how much we mean As snow falls on desert sky Until the end of every… [Interlude] All we are, all we are is bullets, I mean this All we are, all we are is bullets, I mean this All we are, all we are is bullets, I mean this All we are, all we are is bullets, I mean this [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] As lead rains will pass on through Our phantoms forever, forever Like scarecrows that fuel this flame We're burning forever and ever Know how much I want to show you You're the only one Like a bed of roses There's a dozen reasons in this gun [Outro] And as we're falling down, and in this pool of blood And as we're touching hands, and as we're falling down And in this pool of blood, and as we're falling down I'll see your eyes, and in this pool of blood I'll meet your eyes, I mean this forever!

--
::: Los Angeles, October 14th, 2010 :::
Mikey ate his breakfast alone, sitting at the kitchen island. He was thinking about the daily schedule, the band's upcoming tour, and clearly, the severe problems in his marriage, the one subject he kept trying to avoid.
His wife was still asleep, and he didn't want to be around when she woke up. He knew it only meant another fight. Whenever they were in the same room, it always meant an argument, and Mikey was tired of it all.
It was clear they had to get a divorce, but neither of them had brought it up just yet.
He and Alicia had grown apart in the latest months. It was hard with him touring for so long and his wife staying home, persuading her own future in the music industry. And after so much time apart, they were both tired of trying. It just wasn't working anymore.
Frank and Ray were staying at the same hotel. They drove together to the practice studio, doing their best to agree on their ideas about Joey. But they weren't really on the same page at all.
- "Just don't be an ass, ok?"- Ray said when he parked outside the studio, and Frank immediately lit a cigarette.
- "Yeah, whatever,"- Toro got out of the car and closed the door, staring at his friend leaning against the wall to smoke alone- "I'll be right there."
Iero grabbed his phone and read the messages in a vague attempt to think of anything else. But that didn't help at all; Joey parked her car just before him that very second.
- "Shit!"- the two of them said at the same time. Frank put on his dark sunglasses, and Joey grabbed all her things from the passenger seat.
- "I can't catch a break!"- she argued as she opened the door and decided to get over the horribly awkward moment- Hey!- she smiled and waved as Frank nodded- "How are you?"
- "Good, you?"
- "Good..."- and it was still awkward- "So, thank you for inviting me again,"- and Frank nodded again, not saying a word- "I'll... head... inside then."
Joey tried to smile, but it was too uncomfortable to bear. So she ran away.
- "Did you catch the game last night?"- Mikey asked as he sipped his coffee, while Ray grabbed a guitar and started tuning it.
- "No, I played video games until late."
- "What are you playing?"
- "Red dead redemption"
- "Cool, and Christa?"
- "She's back home with her parents,"- Ray kept turning the guitar and never noticed Mikey's sad face- "And Alicia?"
- "She's home. She was sleeping when I left."
- "Is everything ok?"
- "Yeah"- and again, Ray was so concentrated on his guitar, he didn't catch a glimpse of Mikey's sad look.
- "Hello"- Joey walked in, and the two guys smiled- "Am I too early?"
- "No, you are just on time,"- Ray stood up and grabbed a cup of coffee- "I got you this."
- "Oh! thank you!"- Joey was surprised by the gesture- "You shouldn't have."
- "I owed you,"- Toro kind of blushed as Joey held the cup and took a sip.
- "Black, no sugar. How did you know?"
- "I didn't know if you liked cream, and I got a lot of sugar on a side"- Ray quickly answered and showed Joey a bunch of sugar bags on a tray.
- "You nailed it."
- "Hey"- Mikey kinda whispered in a low voice- "I'm sorry, I thought you were getting us coffee and stuff yesterday."
- "Dude, it's ok, don't worry,"- Joey smiled and kept drinking her coffee- "Now I know if I get the job, I can get you black coffee with almond milk to brighten your day"- and he chuckled.
- "And thank you for coming over again."
- "My pleasure,"- Joey answered and stayed quiet looking at the two guys- "So... I saw Frank outside."
- "Yeah, he was smoking, and Gerard should be right here by now,"- Mikey took a look at his wristwatch. It was almost noon, and he knew his brother was going to be late.
Gerard was driving and smoking, trying to devise anything to avoid going to the studio and doing another audition with that woman. He didn't want to. Why? Way really didn't know. It was something inside of him that made him feel like he should stay the fuck away from her 'cos something terrible might happen. And he didn't want to find out what it was.
- "Hey"- Frank waved at Gee when he walked out of his car- "You are late."
- "Yeah, I didn't want to come,"- and Iero chuckled- "What are you doing here?"
- "I didn't want to get in just yet."
- "Is she here already?"
- "Yeah... she got here all happy like fifteen minutes ago."
- "Fine... let's get this over with,"- Gerard walked in and did his best not to look annoyed, which was virtually impossible, 'cos he couldn't stop frowning.
As soon as they walked into the studio, the image was Joey, Ray, and Mikey laughing like they were already best friends. And that got Gerard even more upset, if possible, and because of no reason at all.
- "Hey!"- Mikey stood up and hugged his brother.
- "Hi, nice to see you again,"- Joey reached out for Gerard's hand and smiled to do the same with Frank.
- "Thank you for coming,"- he whispered and cleared his throat. The drummer looked around at the band and started the speech she had prepared in her mind the whole morning.
- "Guys, I just wanted to clear the air here. If you don't want me to do this and you just called 'cos Tucker asked you to, there's no need to go through all this shit. I can go home, no hard feelings or anything"- and the band stayed quiet. Ray looked at Frank and waited for his words.
- "Joey, we just... why did you call Tucker? that was so rude!"
- "First of all, I didn't call him, he called and annoyed me for ten minutes before I told him what happened. And second, you were rude, you barely looked at me, you didn't even pay attention to what I did, and you clearly made up an interview to ask me to leave."
Joey directed those words looking right into Gerard's eyes and just spit the words, knowing that wasn't really gonna help her get the job.
- "Tucker didn't really lie, guys,"- Mikey said and tried to ease the mood- "You were rude at her, and I'm sorry to tell you, she's the best we've had so far."
- "Do you honestly think we can work together after what happened with Tucker?"- Gerard asked her, and she shrugged.
- "If you deal with the fact you were rude to me, then yeah, I've got no problem with it,"- and Frank huffed at that answer.
- "You made us look bad in front of a friend."
- "No, you looked bad in front of me, and when Tucker asked how had it been, were you expecting me to lie and tell him it was awesome? come on!"- Joey frowned, knowing that ship had sailed already- "This shit is high school all over again!"
- "I feel the same!"- Ray said and stood up- "Ok, let's get this straight, you two were assholes! And that's the main problem here! if she did or did not call Tucker to tell him about it, that's not the point!"
- "But dude!"-Frank tied to argue, but Ray stopped him.
- "No! this is our job, and we have to be professional. So now you are gonna be a grown-up, and you are going to apologize for being an asshole with no reason to her, 'cos she just came to apply for a job, ok?"
Ray looked more like a dad than like a band colleague at that point.
- "Sorry, Joey"- Frank whispered and looked down at his shoes. Ray looked at Gerard and raised an eyebrow
- "I'm sorry I was a jerk"- he mumbled
- "And I'm sorry I told Tucker you were assholes. He was really excited about the audition, and he was just trying to help me out. It clearly didn't work out, but he meant good."
Joey tried to be as nice as possible, thinking shit had gotten way too bad to even think about playing with this band.
- "Ok, now I'm gonna go so you can continue your drummer hunt."
- "Wait!"- Mikey held her arm and cut her a smile- "You should jam with us for a while."
- "I don't think that's a good idea. This got too complicated. And whether I'm good or not, I don't want this to be awkward for you. You are looking for someone to work with, it's your band, and you should be comfortable with who you choose."- Joey smiled and grabbed her bag- "I just wanted to thank you for apologizing and for caring about what happened. I'm gonna tell Tucker you are all very nice."- she joked, and the band looked at each other.
- "No, really, stay. We didn't ask you to come because of Tucker. We did it because we really want to give your audition another go,"- Frank's word surprised Joey. She wasn't really able to say a word back; she just nodded and smiled.
- "Great!"- Mikey clapped once and grabbed a bunch of papers from his bag- "I printed you some of the sheets of our songs,"- Joey held them and read them
- "Cool"
- "So... wanna warm-up?"
- "I already played two hours before I left the house."- she whispered, embarrassed of her confession- "Sorry, I just have this weird routine. I work out, eat and play in the early morning, just to get me through the day not killing anyone."
And Mikey chuckled. Frank kinda bit his lips to don't smile. He found it funny.
- "Great, then let's set us up,"- Ray smiled and walked to grab his guitar- "We remembered you were left-handed, so Mikey and I rearranged the drum set for you,"- Gerard raised an eyebrow staring at the scene.
- "Why is Ray so nice with her? Is he crushed on that girl? no way! he is a married man! married guys don't have crushes! it is impossible".
Joey read the music sheets and nodded. She had studied most of the songs, and though she had never been a huge fan of the band, she liked it enough to easily follow the tempo of each tune.
Gerard looked at her playing and hated the fact Mikey was right. She kept following each change they were doing and even threw a few herself that worked perfectly. He hated it 'cos she made it fun, and he wanted to hate her. Very childish of him, but yet, that's how he could describe it.
Frank looked at Mikey and then at Ray as they all played "Thank you for the Venom" and knew in his guts this was it. Musically this is what they needed. And also knew it was a shitty situation 'cos he had already made an enormous fuss and didn't really know how to fix it.
- "Shit!"- Ray said as soon as the song ended.
- "Yeah, that was great."- Gerard said and smiled. He knew he couldn't get away with it. Shit worked. And it worked awesomely- "Can we do "Parade"?"
- "Sure, just let me read it first. That's a long one,"- Joey said and grabbed one of the sheets. Mikey walked to his brother and raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to admit it.
- "I hate you."- Gerard whispered.
- "I know, just say it"
- "No"
- "Say it"- Mikey raised an eyebrow and kinda chuckled.
- "You were right. She's good,"- Gerard whispered, and his brother nodded.
- "God damn, I'm right!"
- "Ok, let's do this before I totally forget it..."- Joey said and smiled- "And who's gonna play the G note?"- the whole band stared at her, and she shrugged- "G note, not G spot, don't get scared"- Gerard chuckled, and he hated himself for it- "Come on pervs, let's do this!"
Somehow, Joey felt a little more in place between the guys, probably 'cos being a drummer, she was pretty used to hang out with men, from her teachers to classmates. She used to have girl bands growing up, but she found it easier working with guys professionally.
- "So, lunch?"- Ray asked and left his guitar aside. They had been jamming for over two hours.
- "Nice, I'm starving,"- Mikey did the same and turned to Joey- "Wanna come?"- she froze and looked at the whole band from behind the drums- "We are gonna go grab something to eat."
- "Yeah, then we can continue the practice,"- Gerard added and walked to the door. Joey kept in silence and looked at Mikey, smiling sweetly.
- "Ok... sure."
- "Great!"- Ray smiled- "Come on, are you a fan of Indian food? There's a fantastic place a few blocks from here!"
Frank sighed and walked outside to light a cigarette. He was sure Ray had a thing for Joey, and that upset him, most of all 'cos, just as Gerard had thought, Ray was a married man, and a happily married man, he shouldn't care about Joey that much. He was way into making her feel good. And that made Frank uncomfortable. And most of all, like a jerk for being mean to her in the first place.
- "Hey"- Joey appeared by his side all of a sudden and scared the shit out of him- "Sorry!"
- "I didn't know you were coming behind me."
- "Everybody had to pee. Apparently, they all have a small bladder,"- Frank grinned, lit a cigarette, and offered Joey one- "Thanks, I quit a few years ago."
- "Really? why?"
- "'Cos I stopped breathing... and found out I was asthmatic, which made total sense when I gave it a thought"- Frank nodded.
- "I shouldn't smoke either. My lungs are shit; I'm a bronchitis magnet."
- "I feel you"- Joey opened her backpack and took out her coconut butter hand cream. Frank looked at her and sort of smiled.
- "Do you want some? it's gonna be good to keep those tattoos from washing away"- Frank left the cigarette on his lips and grabbed the cream.
- "You are not even in the band yet, and you are making me use hand cream."
- "Tell you, what if I get the job I'll make sure I'll keep you moisturize every day,"- the young woman winked at him and saw the rest of the band walking towards them. She didn't notice Frank's face, who had turned purple after those words.
Matthew took a look at his clock as he walked outside the set. Joey should be back home by then, so he dialed her number and waited.
- "Hey, Akumu!"- he heard Joey's cheerful voice at the other side of the line and smiled.
- "Hey, Yami! How was it? Did you get the job? were those guys nice to you? are you ok?"
- "You are not gonna believe this, but we talked about it, and I have the feeling things are pretty much clear between us."
- "That's great, dorky! What are you doing now? are you back home?"
- "No, we came to grab something to eat, and then we'll continue rehearsing."
- "So you are still with the band then?"- Gubler was surprised, but happy things were working.
- "Yeah, and how's the reading going?"
- "Good, we've been at it the whole morning, now I'm about to eat something, and then I'll keep reading my lines."
- "Looking like a maniac pointing a fake gun made with your fingers?"
- "Just like any other day"- Matthew made a pause as he kept walking in circles, thinking about his girlfriend hanging somewhere with that band- "Hey, are those guys being nice to you?"
Joey looked back at the table where the band was eating and nodded, knowing her boyfriend couldn't see her.
- "Surprisingly, yes. They are all being very friendly. They apologize for being assholes yesterday."
- "Wow, really?"
- "Yeah, we had a weird deep talk in the morning. I think shit is cool now."
- "I'm glad, Yami."
- "Yeah, I've got the feeling they might actually give me the job."
- "That would be awesome."
- "I know! Anyway, Akumu, I have to go. I gotta do my best to be nice with these guys."
- "Please, don't be too nice. They don't really deserve it,"- Matthew joked, and Joey chuckled.
- "You are right, but mama needs to work."
- "But daddy can take care of you,"- Joey chuckled, making her best to process that information.
- "I love you so much, Gubler, but I can deal with this on my own."
- "I know you can."
- "Thank you."
- "I just wanna help."
- "Your support and love are all the help I need to make it."
- "So, what are we gonna do?"- Mikey asked his brother, and Gerard cleared his throat, looking at Joey talking on the phone on the other side of the diner.
- "I know you want her to stay, guessing Ray is dying to work with her,"- Gerard raised an eyebrow at his friend, and Frank nodded.
- "Yeah, you are way into that chick."
- "No way! I'm just trying to be nice 'cos you've been jerks."
- "Oh, come on!! you've got jizz all over your underwear!"- Frank's comment made Mikey laugh and almost choke with his lunch.
- "Dude, you went too far!"- Ray argued, disgusted- "And no, I don't have a crush on her, I just feel bad you made her so uncomfortable, and I'm trying to make it up for her."
The band looked at him in silence as Mikey kept coughing.
- "Dude, are you ok?"- Joey asked as she sat back at the table- "Do you want some water?"- and she reached out her glass to him, who took it and drank most of it.
- "Thanks"
- "What happened?"- the young woman asked, and Mikey smiled, breathing a little better.
- "We were talking about jizz"- Gerard covered his face with both hands as he heard his brother talking, and Joey laughed, nodding.
- "I'm so happy I was far away from you,"- Joey said and closed her eyes, pretending to be disgusted- "Anyway, Matthew says hi,"- she smiled at the band and continued eating.
- "Is he on set?"- Frank asked, staring at his food.
- "Table reading, tomorrow they start rehearsal and all those things I don't really remember 'cos I love him, but sometimes I don't follow all the steps into the shooting process."
They all smiled and nodded in silence for a moment. Gerard looked at Frank and lift his brows. Iero sighed and nodded.
- "So... do you wanna play with us for the next couple of months?"- Gerard just put out the question and stared directly into Joey's eyes. She looked at him surprised and didn't know what to say- "We have a very long tour, so we have to compromise to make it work."
- "I thought you hated me."
- "I don't hate you, none of us hates you... we just started with the wrong foot, but I think we can make it work,"- Gerard finished his words, nearly whispering. Joey's heart was racing. She couldn't believe she got the job, this was by far the best job Jo had ever have, and she couldn't wait to tell her parents. They were gonna be so proud.
- "I would love to play with you guys, thank you for the offering,"- Joey answered and grinned- "And again, I'm sorry for Tucker and all that shit."
- "Nah, forget it"- Ray quickly replied- "We know you are right for the band right now."
- "But if you are gonna be with us, we have to talk about the legal agreements"- Mikey said- "I hate that part, but we have to talk with our lawyers, do the paperwork."
- "Sure, not a problem."
- "And we are gonna need a tutorial to learn how to fucking spell your last name,"- Frank added and make everybody laugh. He looked at Joey smiling, and it felt like those few seconds were in slow motion, without any reason. Iero knew he was going to remember that particular moment for the rest of his life. He just didn't know why yet.
- "Yeah, what's the problem with your last name? when I called you yesterday, I had to practice it for a half-hour."
- "And you misspelled every single fucking letter in it, sorry"- she said to Ray and took a sip of her coke before she answered- "It's from Iceland, dad's from there. And my mom is from Colombia, which explains Maria Josefina ... I know, weirdest mix ever."
- "Wow, and what the fuck the last name thing?"- Frank asked and finished his food
- "Well, there your last name is defined by your father's name, so my dad's name is Sveinbjörn Sigmundsson"- the whole band stared at her with a blank look on their faces.
- "Sorry, what?"- Frank asked again
- "Sveinbjörn, it's a very common name."
- "Sure! sure it is!"- Iero laughed, and so did Joey.
- "Anyway, over there, your surname is your father's name and, in my case, the noun daughter, in Iceland, dottir, so my last name is Sveinbjörn, my dad's name, plus dottir, get it? Sveinbjörndottir, 'cos I am Sveinbjörn's daughter"- Gerard nodded and asked
- "And if you were a boy?"
- "I would be Sveinbjörnson... what's your dad's name?"
- "Donald"
- "In Iceland, you would be Gerard Donaldson"
- "Shit! my name would suck in Iceland!"- Frank grabbed his head and scratched it- "I would be Frank Frankson!"- and he burst out laughing
- "Dude! you are so lucky you are from Jersey!"- Ray said and turned to Joey- "So Maria Josefina is your mom's heritage and Sveinbjörndottir your father's."
- "Exactly, and that's why Joey is the best way to avoid people getting mistaken with my name."
- "Seems legit"- Gerard said and looked at everybody smiling. He turned to Joey and tried to study her face for a moment. Sure, her skin was paperwhite, and her eyes were slightly green, but she didn't look like the classic island chick you might imagine. Maybe there was too much Colombia on her.
- "What is it?"- she asked him when she found him staring at him.
- "Nothing"- he blushed and finished his coke- "I was just... trying to find any Icelandic feature on you"- she frowned immediately and didn't answer a word, obviously upset- "Sorry..."
Gerard drove back with Mikey. He wanted to avoid Ray being too nice at Joey, 'cos it still bothered him. And Mikey needed to talk about anything random with his brother to keep his mind busy.
- "Hey, maybe we should do something tonight"- Mikey asked his older brother.
- "Like what?"
- "I don't know... wanna go out? Maybe see some bands? Peter told me there are a few cool shows around this week."
- "Yeah, sure, let me ask Lynz if she wants to join us? what about Alicia?"- Mikey looked over the window and cleared his throat.
- "No, she told me she was meeting some friends tonight."
- "Everything ok?"
- "Yeah, it's all ok"- Mikey wasn't even making an effort to sound ok, but Gerard didn't notice- "So, thanks for what you did."
- "What did I do?"
- "You took an executive decision for the band"
- "I hope Frank doesn't kill me"
- "He won't"
- "And I stand by the fact Ray has a crush on her"
- "I don't think so"- Mikey's phone hummed, and he lazily read the text, "I'll stay with my parents tonight." Just what he needed, a confirmation of his lie. His wife was going to be nowhere to be seen that evening.
- "Hey, Lynz asked me to get something for dinner. Wanna grab something with us, and then we can go out?"
- "Sure."
Frank wouldn't stop talking. At some point during lunch, he just stopped trying to hate Joey. He ended up making joke after joke from the minute they got into the rented car until they reached the studio. He was so nice even Ray got worried. But then he thought Frank was probably overcompensating that girl for being such an ass before.
- "Ok so, Tucker ran naked from the studio, got into the car, and drove to get a burger wearing nothing but a cap?"- Joey nearly peed laughing at Frank's story.
- "Yeah!"- he reassured, laughing too- "And the studio was in this basement, and the family of our friend lived upstairs and completely saw him running around mooning everyone"- the drummer couldn't stop laughing, picturing her friend running naked all over.
- "Shitface never told me that story!!"
- "Oh, it's a good one!!!"- Frank chuckled and turned to look at Joey in the backseat- "So why were you touring with him?"
- "'Cos I had an awesome band, and we opened for Thursday for a few dates. I was still in college back then, and Tucker was like my older brother. He taught me a lot and saved me when I was drunk a couple of times, primarily for getting into fights."
Frank smiled and kept looking at Joey for a few seconds, and she cut him a big grin.
- "How come you don't have a band right now?"- Ray asked her and forced Frank to turn around and look at the road.
- "How says I don't?"
- "Do you?"- Joey laughed for a second.
- "No. My last band broke a few months ago, and I've been working on a few projects, but I haven't found people cool enough to share it with,"- Ray and Frank nodded in silence as they parked outside the studio.
- "Ok, kids. Back to work"- Ray said and opened the door. Joey did the same and smiled at Frank when he let her pass before him. She was sure he was extra nice to make up for being such an asshole with her before. And Frank was sure he had to stop being so nice at her 'cos he felt he was about to overstep the line, but he couldn't stop. It was like he stopped hating her to fully endorse a friendship with the girl one minute to the other
- "Get your fucking shit together, Frank."
Around five-thirty, Joey got into her car and sighed. She was exhausted and yet so fucking excited she felt she could run back to her place yelling. She had to wait until she was somewhere safe though, the band could walk out of the studio any minute, and it would be too embarrassing. Embarrassed herself in front of the band's first day working with them was something she wanted to avoid. It was too soon to show her real colors. No need to let them know she was a dork just yet. They had a whole tour to find out.
As she drove back home, she thought of everything that had happened that year. It surely didn't have a great start. Moving to Los Angeles to try to give it a go in music had been hard, really hard. If it hadn't been for her parent's support, she wouldn't have survived. But then she met Matthew, and it felt he could make everything better like magic. On top of that, she now had a real job playing with a huge band. That was a huge reason to celebrate.
- "So, what do you guys think?"- Gerard looked at the band and raised both eyebrows- "Is this shit gonna work?"
- "I don't see why not"- Mikey simply answered and grabbed his phone. Zero news from his wife. Not surprised either- Rehearsal was pretty well
- "No, I mean touring with a girl."
- "Oh, knock it, I thought we had passed that stupid problem,"- the youngest Way looked at brother pretty pissed- "Just grow up!"
- "Aren't you a little too sensitive?"- Gerard frowned and sat back on the couch.
- "No, I'm just tired. I don't wanna hear any more shit about how weird it will be touring with a girl or if Ray has a crush on her."
- "He totally does"- Frank quickly said, chuckling, though he felt slightly out of place saying that considering now he was extra nice with her too, and he didn't have a crush on her.
- "Very mature,"- Ray didn't pay attention to those words and looked at the band- "What we should be doing is preparing the setlist for the tour."
- "Is Brian coming tomorrow?"- Iero asked, walking around looking kind of bored.
- "Yeah, he said so, at ten, I think, to see the venues, schedules, crew. The usual,"- Ray answered and kept typing on his computer- "So, setlist?"- Frank's phone rang, and he walked away immediately.
- "Does anyone remember the name of the movie we watched the other day at my house?"- Gerard asked, looking at the ceiling.
- "The setlist"- Ray repeated.
- "No, it was the Hayao Miyazaki about the little girl."
- "Spirited away"- Ray quickly answered- "Now please! the setlist"
- "Do you think she was tripping?"- Ray looked at Gerard, annoyed, and closed the laptop- "What?"
- "I'm trying to work here, and you are not even listening!"
- "No one is. Why are you blaming me?"
- "Because you are not helping!!"
- "Wanna do the setlist, let's do the fucking setlist"- Gerard grabbed a notebook and a pen and started writing down the name of the songs- "There! A fucking setlist!"
- "What the fuck is your problem?"
- "I have no problem!!"- Gerard kind of shouted.
- "Can you guys please stop yelling?"- Frank asked, annoyed as he turned around, covering the cellphone and giving his bandmate a severe look.
- "Sorry"- Gerard whispered and look down at the sheet of paper.
- "What is going on there?"- Jamia asked her husband.
- "Shit has been kind of tense these last couple of days."
- "Why? preparing the tour?"
- "Yeah"
- "Did you guys find a new drummer?"- Frank sighed and walked outside to smoke a cigarette.
- "Yeah, we signed one today"
- "Great! What's his name?"
- "Joey, with an unpronounceable last name,"- Iero closed his eyes and took a deep breath before he added- "And it's her name... we booked a girl for the tour"- Jamia stayed quiet, processing the information- "She is friends with Tucker, he recommended her, and she is the best drummer we had."
- "Is she nice?"
- "Yeah, and her boyfriend is very nice too,"- Frank knew he had to add the boyfriend factor into the conversation quickly- "She is dating the nerd guy from Criminal Minds."
- "Really? he is hot"
- "I guess... anyway, we've been dealing with the drummer issue most of today, so shit is kind of sensitive."
- "Why? Someone didn't want to work with her?"
- "Well... I didn't"- Frank murmured
- "Why not?"
- "'Cos... I don't know. We've never included a girl in this band."
- "Maybe it's an excellent chance to do something different."
- "Wait, you are not upset we are touring with a girl?"- Frank frowned, not getting his wife's attitude.
- "Why should I?"
- "I don't know? 'cos bitches be crazy?"
- "Franklin Anthony Iero! you take that back!"
- Why are you middle naming me for?"
- "That was sexist!"
- "Sorry, I just thought you were going to be against this whole idea"
- "I think it's cool"
- "Really?"- Frank was in shock- "You are not going to freak out?"
- "No, I'm not going to freak out."
- "Thank you"
- "Besides, she has a really hot boyfriend. Do you think she can introduce him?"
- "Jamia Iero!!"
- "What? It's not like I'm gonna cheat on you. I just wanna stare at him... I bet he is tall"
- "Ok... that's weird for someone who has been a little too sensitive over fans lately,"- Frank joked, but that might have been just a huge mistake.
- "What are you saying? That I'm a psycho about girls around you?"
- "No, no, no honey, it was just a joke"
- "An awful joke"
- "I'm sorry"- Frank took a long drag of his cigarette and sighed- "How are the babies?"
- "Sleeping... I was gonna eat dinner and go to bed too 'cos I'm too fucking tired."
- "You should. Is your mom staying at home with you tonight?"
- "No, Evan is here today. He did some grocery shopping and cooked dinner"
- "He is awesome"
- "Yeah, he is on diaper duty until one, so I better get some rest"
- "Go, honey, talk to you tomorrow, ok?"
- "What are you gonna do tonight?"
- "Drive back to the hotel and play videogames with Ray"
- "Exciting"- Frank chuckled at his wife's words and stubbed out his cigarette.
- "Love you, honey"
- "Love you too"
Jamia was full of it. She hated the idea of Frank touring with a girl, but she knew making a tantrum was worse. They had had too many arguments about female fans already. The last thing she needed was to start a new one. But how was she going to deal with this new drummer? She seemed to be a major threat.
Joey walked into her apartment and jumped around in hyperventilation. She had tried her best to control her emotions all the way back home, but after she closed the door behind her back, there was no way she could stop her excitement.
- "I can't fucking believe this!!"- she yelled and jumped around the place until she finally laid on her bed and hugged a pillow. For the first time in a long time, she didn't feel like a loser. And for the first time ever, she could call her dad and make him proud, giving him the news of her new job.

🩸 🎸 🧛🏿‍♂️
& 🔮 what are lyrics from anything mcr/mcr adjacent that you think genuinely helped you/saved you/just made you feel a little less alone in your struggles, if you have any
Thank you nathan <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
🩸: do you have a memory associated to the first time you listened to each of the mcr albums? Not really? usually whenever i listen to an album in full i just kinda sit down and do it. and its been so long since i heard any of their songs or albums for the first time that those memories are nothing but blurs. 🎸: what’s your favorite song by ray toro? Oooogghhh can i say the entire remember the laughter album? its literally such a masterpiece and the fact that ray produced the whole thing himself with almost no help just makes it that much better. ray toro is in fact a musical genius and his compositions make my fucking monkey brain go oohh aahhhh and i feel like he deserves way more recognition than he gets, 🧛🏿‍♂️ : what’s the most rewarding thing for you about being an mcr fan? (finding friends, experiencing shows, etc.) i’ve been into mcr since i was like 8 years old, and ever since then its always been about the community for me. i heard their songs when i was a young kid being bullied and harassed and found out that i wasnt alone through their music. like the messages they put out i intensely connected with. and i think that was their intention, to let people who were a little fucked up know that its Okay to be a little fucked up.
🔮 : question of the anons choosing im gonna stick to mcr lyrics that helped me and made me feel a lil less alone bc if i went into mcr adjacent things we would literally be here all day.
I went a lil crazy so my answer is under the read more <3

“She said, You ain’t no son of mine / For what you’ve done they’re gonna find / a place for you and just you mind your manners when you go / and when you go don’t return to me, my love.” ~ Mama
“Do or die you’ll never make me / Because the world will never take my heart / Go and try, you’ll never break me / We want it all, we wanna play this part / I won’t explain or say i’m sorry / i’m unashamed, i’m gonna show my scars / Give a cheer for all the broken / listen here, because it’s who we are / I’m just a man, i’m not a hero / just a boy, who had to sing this song / i’m just a man, i’m not a hero / I don’t care.” ~ WTBP

“And now, the red ones make me fly and the blue ones help me fall / And I think i’ll blow my brains against the ceiling. / And as the fragments of my skull begin to fall / fall on your tongue like pixie dust, just think happy thoughts.” ~ Headfirst
“And in this moment, we can’t close the lids on burning eyes / our memories blanket us, with friends w know, like fallout vapors / steel corpses stretched out towards an ending sun / Scorched in black, it reaches in and tears your flesh apart / as ice cold hands rip into your heart. / thats if you’ve still got one thats left / inside that cave you call a chest / And after seeing what we saw / can we still reclaim our innocence? / And if the world needs something better / lets give them one more reason now.” ~ Skylines
“Sometimes I think I’ll die alone, I’d think I’d love to die alone / Just take me down / Just take me down / I think I’d love to die alone.” ~ Cubicles
“As lead rains, will pass on through / Our phantoms forever / Like scarecrows that fuel this flame / We’re burning forever and ever / Know how much I want to show you / You’re the only one / Like a bed of roses / there’s a dozen reasons in this gun.” ~ Demo Lovers
“I’m sick, down from the bones to the other side / Red-mob we insects hide / King rat on the streets in another life / they laugh we don’t think it’s funny / If what you are / is just what you own / what have you become / when  they take from you almost everything?” ~ Destroya

do you have any longer frikey fics, preferably bottom frank if theres smut
I do have some longer Frank/Mikey stuff, but no guarantee on bottom Frank!
Longer Frank/Mikey
Emotional Brilliance by kopperblaze, 21k, Mature. Toro and Mikey are a good team, Mikey doesn’t get why Brian had to hire someone else. In particular he doesn’t get why Brian had to hire Frank, who knows nothing about Lush products and who's incapable of keeping his mouth shut. Lush!AU. The one where Ray is a skin care expert, Frank is obnoxious, Mikey is annoyed and Pete leaves glittery handprints all over everything.
Gross roomies by turps, 36k, Explicit. Frank loves living with Mikey. Sure, the apartment is a mess, the kitchen's a toxic wasteland, and there's something growing in the refrigerator that's just a day or two away from becoming sentient, but other than those minor inconveniences, it's all cool. Or it is until Mikey decides to embark on a journey of sexual discovery and adventure and Frank's left at home with nothing but the fridge monster for company. To make matters worse, Mikey insists on telling Frank everything he does with his new kinky friends, right down to the tiniest detail. And now suddenly Frank is best friends with his right hand and he can't stop thinking about Mikey in ways he never has before. The really big problem, other than suddenly being in lust with his best friend, is that Frank isn't sure why.
Won't Know 'til You Begin by knight_tracer, Sena, 24k, Explicit. In which Frank is an accidental pervert, Mikey sleeps with Fabio, Gerard is much too sincere when talking about pain sluts, Ray is terrible with women and great with guitars, and Otter's got really bad taste in music. Alternately, the one where Frank realizes he has a thing for Mikey, Mikey realizes he has a thing for guys, and they're both adorably stupid failboats.
On Air by ladyfoxxx, 15k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank's a radio DJ at an alternative station, spinning punk tracks and talking shit. When he gets handed the most popular show at the station to host, his first guests are independent horror filmmakers Gerard and Mikey Way.
Standing on a Planet that's Evolving and Revolving by Green, 13k, Explicit. The evolution of Frank Iero, age 15.
Buenas Noches From A Lonely Room by Femme (femmequixotic), 15k, Explicit. Frank wants to touch Mikey, to slide his fingers across the sharp angle of his cheek just below his glasses, to drag his thumb along the curve of his bottom lip, to smooth his palm down Mikey's long throat.
What Dreams May Come by sperrywink, 15k, Explicit. His career in music derailed, Frank never met the other guys in My Chemical Romance. A silly tale of teleportation.
a scent and a sound by mwestbelle, 15k, Explicit. In an urban fantasy world where werewolves can't hold a decent job and no roommate wants them, werewolf Frank is looking for an apartment. He finds one with Mikey Way.
Heart Wrapped in Clover by Sena, 19k, Explicit. Everbody's got their not-so-secret secrets on tour. When you live out of a van, you just can't help but notice things that you shouldn't talk about if you don't want to embarrass your friends or start a fight. Frank wishes sometimes they talked about things, though, because he's dying to ask if anybody else has noticed that sometimes, Mikey wears panties.
Tints Verse by turps, 65k, Mature. A MCR AU where Ray has his own gardening firm, and one day he does a job for the Ways.
We Used To Be Friends by ladyfoxxx, 50k, Explicit. "You and me, right Mikes?" "Yeah, fuck everybody else." Best friends since high school, if Frank could've chosen a brother, he'd pick Mikey. Then Mikey became a rock star and Frank... didn't. After years of radio silence, Mikey steps onto a stage in Jersey and back into Frank's life. (Or, the one where Frank is a school teacher and Mikey plays rhythm in The Used.)
And the Painted Ponies by turps, 35k, Mature. After years of struggling to be taken seriously as a bodyguard, Frank Iero is finally well established. He loves his boss, Ray, he loves his job, and he prides himself on his professionalism. But then he's assigned to be the personal bodyguard of Mikey Way. Mikey Way, aka Roboboy, is a successful high fashion model. Loved by designers and the public alike for his trademark lack of emotion, but mocked by the tabloid press for the exact same reason. Mikey is someone that Frank's sure he'll hate. Except it doesn't work out that way. In fact, it doesn't take long before Frank discovers he really likes Mikey. Maybe too much.
Better Than A Paid Life by gala_apples, 15k, Explicit. Gerard and Mikey Way are the Killjoys, a motorbaby duo. That is, until their car gets wrecked in a battle and the dashboard accessory of their new Trans Am is an ex-Companion with a mission.
Crash by Gorgeous Nerd (gorgeousnerd), 26k, Explicit. In a future version of Seattle, Frank Iero's a lot of things: bike messenger, cage fighter, sometimes thief, Ray Toro's roommate. Mikey Way's also a lot of things: record label owner, co-heir to his grandmother's fortune, younger brother. Neither are normal. But they don't know just how far each other's abnormalities go until Frank's past and a secret of Mikey's unexpectedly shove together. (Dark Angel AU.)
Sound Tracking by turps, 46k, Mature. The beat is muted, almost non-existent, and the loss hits Bob hard. He's used to living his life in a constant thrum of sound, sensing those around him, the rhythm of the universe a constant companion, but here there's almost nothing. He can feel the sound that's been pulling him for weeks now, but little else. This place is dead, almost silent, and Bob aches with the feeling of being cast into nothingness. A MCR - Bob and Gerard centric space AU where Gerard's band has been taken from him and Bob helps find them. Also features FOB, especially Pete.
Drink Cider From a Lemon by turps, 20k, General Audiences. A story about friendship, love and building your own kind of home.
Mikey Way and the Quest for the Stone by Roxy_palace, 29k, Explicit. “I’m in Colombia!” Mikey said, raising his voice over the crackle of a poor connection. “No. no, no, no, no,” James wailed. Mikey could really relate to his disbelief. He couldn't believe he was in mother fucking Colombia either.
Below the Trees, Which Are Below the Stars by alpheratz, 38k, Explicit. In the mid-1920s, Gerard and Mikey moved to France - Gerard to pursue art, Mikey because he couldn't stay behind. Now, it's 1930, and Mikey's become an airmail pilot, flying the mail route to Dakar with his navigator Frank. For a long time, the only rough thing about Mikey's life was the strain on his and Gerard's soulbond when Mikey was away, but his growing feelings for Frank and the arrival of Frank's old friend Ray could change everything.
Food of Love by Lucifuge5, 12k, Teen And Up Audiences. Ever since it re-opened, Frank's been "Sweet Nothings"'s number one customer. That he harbors a gigantic crush on one of the owners is something that he's kept to himself for the most part (Ray will never tell a soul.) It's not until he strikes a friendship with the older brother of the object of his affection that he 'fesses up. Moved by Frank's pining, Gerard promises to help Frank woo Mikey. Complications arise when Gerard's "helpful advice" is anything but. Will Frank be successful in his courtship or are his chances to win Mikey's heart as ruined as a burnt cupcake?
You Only Hear The Music (When Your Heart Begins To Break) by Acadjonne, 28k, Mature. Mikey and Frank have known each other for years. They're roommates, and best friends. They're also friends with benefits. The arrangement is casual, and it suits them both. Somewhere along the way, Mikey develops feelings for Frank, but he pushes them aside. They aren't important, he'll be fine. Or, Mikey is fine, until he somehow ends up pregnant a year into this thing with Frank, and all of a sudden, he's got more to deal with than just how long he'll be able to hide his feelings for Frank or how the hell he's supposed to afford his transition.
Give Me A Reason To Believe (Failboats In Love) by Acadjonne, 14k, Teen And Up Audiences. On the night of October 31st, Linda and Frank Iero welcome a baby boy into their family. He weighs six pounds, four ounces, and is nineteen inches long. They give him a family name, and he becomes the third Iero man to bear the name of Frank. A year later, on All Hallow's Eve, a sleeping baby is taken from his crib and replaced with a fake. The babe will later be taken from the hands of the goblin that stole him, and he will be raised by two rowan treefolk, a house brownie, and some pixies. ----- When Ray walks down the stairs to the Way family basement, the last thing Mikey expects to see is a scrappy and long-haired form following behind him. But as he later finds out, Frank is almost always unexpected in the best of ways, the rest of the world be damned.
Death's Muse by TheFratelliEffect, 53k [WIP], Mature. Lonely and depressed, Mikey Way is battling through the drab years that immediately follow college. Struggling to make a living as an artist, Mikey has became a battered down, quiet introvert whom wants nothing to do with the abusive romance he is unwillingly involved in. On a cold winter morning, the starving artist is confronted with the opportunity to paint Frank Iero, the Midnight Falls' elusive, young doctor, which he takes up immediately. Love and lust ensure as the story opens on the painter as he meets his muse.
Gallons Of The Stuff by MCRmyGeneral, 20k, Explicit. Frank has been amused by blood for as long as he can remember. When he was a child, it was a simple fascination; the way it felt on his hands, the way it looked dripping to the floor, the way it smelled. But as he grew older, that simple fascination morphed into a daring lust. Blood no longer amused him, now it turned him on. Frank has never intentionally hurt someone just to see their blood. He just takes what he can get whenever an accident happens. But when Mikey is hurt bad, Frank discovers how hard it is to keep his hands, and thoughts, to himself. He loves Mikey, he has for a long time. But now, he finds his silence so much harder to keep. He has two choices: either tell Mikey how he feels, about him and his blood, and risk scaring him away, or keep quiet, and never let the man know how much he means to him. Whatever he chooses, he knows that someone will get hurt.

Frank Iero: “Fuck Baseball! Let’s Start A Band!”
by Keith Valcourt Posted November 4th, 2019
My Chemical Romance guitarist breaks through on his third solo album Barriers in advance of the longest awaited reunion in EMO history.
If all Frank Iero had done in life was to be the guitarist in the multi-platinum selling My Chemical Romance, then his place in music history would be secured. But Iero is not one to sit back on his past accomplishments. The music that runs in this third generation player’s DNA keeps Iero restless to discover new musical paths. His latest album Barriers features him settling in nicely as the front man of a sonically superior band, The Future Violents.
A few weeks back, Frank and I discussed “disco fries,” evolving as an artist and why the best chance of a My Chemical Romance reunion will be at a BBQ. This was of course before MCR’s big Halloween announcement of a reunion show in L.A.
Q: What drew you to music?
A: My dad was a drummer. My grandfather was a drummer. And they wanted me to play drums. The first instrument I touched at three years old was the drums. It became apparent to me quickly that I was not good at drums, or at least not as good as them at drums. Plus, I really just wanted to write songs. I tried everything. I took piano lessons. I tried saxophone because it was shiny (laughs). Nothing really stuck until I got a guitar. It was like when Harry Potter got his wand. My hair blew back, and I thought, “Oh My God! This is it!” My first band I started at eleven. When I found somebody else that played something at little league practice, I said, “Fuck baseball, let’s start a band.”
Q: Do you remember your first show?
A: It was the junior ring dance. I was eleven and not old enough so I was allowed to play the show but had to leave immediately after. My mom picked me up. But that was it. I thought, “I’m a professional musician and I’m going to be doing this for the rest of my life.”
Q: Has there ever been a point in your life where you considered doing anything but music?
A: My dad and grandfather were musicians. My parents split up very early on, so I would go see my dad on the weekends. Go with him to his show with his blues band in a bar. Or I would go with my grandfather, who would play this old speakeasy. That was my secret world. During the week, I was a mild mannered student. On the weekends, I was a roadie.  And if I stayed up late enough, I would get to go to the diner with the band.
Q: Being from Jersey that meant “disco fries?”
A: Yeah! I thought, “Who gets eggs with fries and gravy? That’s crazy!” I wanted to be around that. I wanted to be in a band.
Q: When MCR ended, did you know you were going to go solo?
A: No, I didn’t, to be honest. Even when MCR was together, I was always doing side projects. I did a record with a couple friends under the moniker of Leathermouth. I also did a project called Death Spells. I just always wrote songs. My intention was to never do another band like My Chem again. I wanted to try something new. I had all these songs and started to write and record them, then I thought, “Alright, guess I am making a record.” At the time, I had a discussion with my wife and said, “I don’t know if I want to do this. Be the singer and front man of a band.” She said, “Alright then maybe don’t. But you are never going to know unless you try.” She encouraged me. Here we are three records in.
Q: How have you evolved?
A: I think I’ve gotten better. The first one (Stomachaches) was a very lonely process. Just me making sounds in my basement, making sounds into a computer. I don’t know if I could have continued making music if it were all done in that lonely setting, because I do like that relationship with other players. Bringing my brother-in-law Evan (Nestor) in was huge for me. Because now I feel like I have a partner in crime.
Q: Was the new album Barriers just you and Evan or a band project?
A:  This one felt the most like a band. When I put together the Future Violents, I ended up getting to make a record with Tucker Rule who played drums, who I’ve known since 2000. Matt Armstrong, who played in Murder By Death.  I met Tucker and Matt around the same time. I remember seeing both of their bands and thinking they were both unbelievable. I couldn’t even imagine being in a band that good. Now it happened.
Q:  Why is the album called Barriers?
Sometimes we set up walls around ourselves to protect ourselves from being hurt. Sometimes those things don’t just keep others out. The album is about the things we weren’t able to break through, or things we needed to break down in order to get by and actually live our lives.
Q: Will The New Violents continue as a band?
A: I have no idea. I used to think, “Every record. New band. New name. New people.” But there are no rules.
Q: Your old bandmates, Gerard (Way) and Ray (Toro), have collaborated on music for The Umbrella Academy.  Would you ever consider collaborating with any former MCR bandmates?
A: Again, there are no rules. The best thing about that band ending was that the friendships were able to continue and have now evolved into this weird family/dad thing. We get together once or twice a year and have barbeques. Our kids play together. That’s the best part.
Frank Iero & The Future Violents new CD, Barriers, is out now.

*SOULMATE AU* You’ll Find Them Soon. (G. Way x Reader)
SOULMATE AU.
"Why?"
You groaned in agony, staring at your reflection in the bathroom mirror after yet another failed hair dye attempt. The bottle of bleach on the countertop was the strongest one on the cosmetic market, and yet it still hadn't been able to iradicate the jet black colour of your hair.
Picking up the bottle of coloured dye, you turned to address your best friend, through the screen of your cellphone.
"That's the fifth time in two weeks," you informed, your shoulders slumping.
Knowing how badly you had wanted to change your hair colour (and that you had been trying for years to do it), (Y/B/F) repositioned herself so that her rainbow hair was out of frame.
"Sorry," she sympathised, pouting slightly, "but hey, it's not forever. Just until you meet your soulmate."
"Ha!" you laughed, "Because that's been going so well."
Shaking your head, you angrily tossed the useless hair products and empty boxes into the bin.
"Tell me about it," (Y/B/F) mumbled, looking down at the black spot on her knee.
"I refuse to accept the fact that out of every living thing in the entire universe I was the only one cursed with having their soulmate spot be their fucking hair," you grumbled hatefully, leaning in closer to the mirror as you combed your fingers through the strands framing your face, "It's an injustice."
An amused scoff. "How do you know you're the only one?"
You turned, giving her a bored look. "You ever heard of another abomination like this?" you questioned, flicking your hair around for emphasis.
"I heard that this one guy had his on his di-"
"Last I checked, that's still part of the body," you interrupted.
"Techincally, so is hair."
Rolling your eyes, you picked up your phone from the shelf next to the mirror, moving to flip the light switch. Pulling the door mostly closed, you headed towards your bed.
"So much for having dyed hair for the concert tomorrow," you said as you pulled back the covers and let your body drop down onto the mattress. You held your phone in the air as you continued speaking. "My emoness is on the decline."
"You're being slightly overdramatic."
"Maybe I should just shave my head. Get a wig."
(Y/B/F) raised her brows. "Then how will you know if you've met your soulmate?"
Blowing a raspberry, you burrowed further into the comfort of your blankets. "At this point, I'm pretty convinced I don't have one."
The next day. My Chemical Romance meet and greet.
"I can't believe this is happening. Can you believe this is happening? 'Cause I can't. I can't believe this is happening."
Slowly lifting your head from looking down at your phone screen, you furrowed your brows as you stared at your friend. Her eyes were so wide they looked as though they would pop out of their sockets at any moment.
Your gaze dropped down to her bouncing leg. "Are you high?"
"I don't know but those nice people over there – HI GUYS! – gave me a cupcake and it was bitchin'!"
"Wow," you laughed, placing an arm around her shoulders and guiding her forward. You did a quick head count of the people ahead of you. "We're almost at the front."
Gasping, (Y/B/F) began hitting the back of her hand against your shoulder excitedly. "We're meeting My Chemical fucking Romance," she whisper-shrieked, gripping your arm tightly.
Reality set in for you at that moment, and you gripped her hand over your arm. "I fucking know."
"Next!"
Everyone in line shuffled forward as the foremost group of people took their turn in approaching the rockstars. There was now only one person standing between you and the band members, and you chewed on the inside of your cheek in a mock attempt at supressing the bubbly feeling in your stomach.
The next couple of moments passed by in a blur and before you knew it, you were stepping up and coming face-to-face with Ray Toro, who greeted you with a warm smile.
"Hi, thanks for coming," he said politely, scribbling his signature on one of the pages of the CD booklet you had handed over.
"Thanks for existing."
His face lit up as he laughed. "Oh, well you, too!"
The two of you shared a smile before he slid the booklet over to Mikey, and you moved in front of the bassist, leaving (Y/B/F) to have her turn with Ray.
Being the introvert that he is, Mikey merely offered a soft hello as he signed the booklet, and the faintest of smiles as he looked up at you. As his hand moved across the page, your eyes landed upon the bright blue spot on the inside of his wrist and even though you didn't want to, you couldn't help but feel a tiny bit jealous.
As he passed the booklet on to Frank, Mikey noticed your gaze – so strong that it was practically boring a hole in his skin – and leaned in across the table.
"Hey," he whispered, capturing your attention, "you'll find them soon. I promise."
It become hard to swallow all of a sudden, and before the burning sensation in your eyes could manifest themselves into tears, you cleared your throat and nodded.
"Thank you."
The bassist reached out to give your hand a quick squeeze, then let you carry on down the line and toward Frank.
"Hey, how are ya?"
The lively voice of the youngest musician lifted your spirits in an instant; your instinctual reaction to his question was a beaming smile.
"I'm meeting my favorite band so... fantastic?" you chuckled, pushing your hair back, "How are you?"
"Oh, I'm awesome." He pointed his Sharpie at your shirt, then used it to sign the booklet. "Rad shirt, by the way."
You looked down at your Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt with a lopsided grin. "Yeah," you shrugged, "I would've worn my MCR one but I wanted it clean for the show tonight."
Frank delivered one of his signature smiles as he handed the CD booklet over to you. "Well, here's hoping you're close enough for us to see you in it."
"Oh," you scoffed, "I will be."
"Promise?"
The guitarist's subtle flirtations – albeit flattering – were not at all desired (or reciprocated) by yourself. There was only one band member that made your stomach do cartwheels and your heart go into cardiac arrest – and you were merely seconds away from officially meeting him.
You got light-headed at the thought.
Although Gerard wholly captivated you, the chances of anything more than a regular fan-artist interaction transpiring between you two were little to none; you knew this.
So, indulging in Frank's light-hearted flirting was harmless. Besides, it would be impolite not to reply, wouldn't it?
"I promise."
Clutching your booklet tightly, you drew in a deep breath as you stepped up to the last seat -at the table.
Gerard was truly beautiful, and nothing in the world could ever compare to just how strikingly attractive he was in person.
That being said, the second you laid eyes on him, you almost tripped over your own feet. But you were able to save yourself from that embarrassment, and managed to muster up enough confidence to look the singer in the eye.
"Hi," he greeted, his soft voice a direct contrast to his edgy outfit and overly bright hair.
"Hi."
A moment passed, in which neither of you said or did anything, but in which you tried to reprogram your head into thinking straight. The fact that you were meeting Gerard Way seemed too surreal for you to comprehend.
Eventually, Gerard initiated, nodding his head to the booklet in your hands. "Got something for me?"
Shaking off your petrified state, you quickly handed over the booklet. "Yes! Sorry," you shook your head and chuckled nervously, "I've just been waiting for this for a really long time and now that it's actually happening... well, let's just say I'm properly freaking out."
Gerard laughed softly, raising his brows. "If this is what you call 'freaking out', then I don't know..."
Biting your bottom lip, you fiddled with the strap of your bag as you thought about all the things you wanted to say to the man sitting in front of you. There were so many, too many, and you weren't sure whether or not to speak.
As you watched him sign over his picture in the book, it dawned on you that you might never have the oppurtunity to talk to him ever again and that if you didn't take your chance now, you'd regret it forever.
"Hey," you blurted, causing him to look up at you, "I know you probably hear this a lot but... I just want to say thank you. You've done so much... been such an inspiration – a hero – to so many people. You've saved so many lives and- and you're just so talented and fucking incredible. And there's so much more that I want to say to you but," you laughed awkwardly, "I, for the life of me, can't think of any of them right now and I'm pretty sure I've screwed this up already, so I'll just shut up now."
With the most sincere look in his eyes, Gerard stared at you, lightly shaking his head. "No. No screw-ups. Thank you. It really... it just... it's nice... to hear stuff like that." He let out a sudden laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. "God, that sounded really self-absorbed, didn't it?"
Shaking your head furiously, you refuted. "No," you frowned, "not at all."
He smiled at you.
Your knees nearly gave in.
You had no idea where the sudden surge of confidence came from, but you capitalised on it by asking him if you could hug him.
Gerard's face fell. "We're not allowed to hug anyone. Security is pretty pressed around here."
"Oh." Your shoulders dropped.
"Fucking stupid, if you ask me, but it's the rules. And they get really pissed off when we don't follow them. I'm sorry," he apologised, creasing his forehead and brow.
You waved it off. "No, no, it's alright. I understand. Safety first and all that."
"Yeah," he said softly, nodding; he seemed just as disappointed as you by the fact.
"I'll never forget this," you gave a small smile, "It was great meeting you, Gerard."
"You too..."
"(Y/N)."
He smiled, and held out your booklet for you to take. "(Y/N)."
Reaching out, you gently took it from him. As you did, your fingers brushed against his, and your entire body felt as if it were on fire. It was a feeling that could only be described as otherwordly.
Gerard felt it too, that much was clear in the way that his head jerked up to look at you. When he did, he squinted his eyes, noticing something just as otherwordly as the feeling you had both just experienced.
Opening his mouth, it was his intention to say something; exactly what, he didn't know, but something).
But as soon as you had taken your booklet from his hands, security had begun ushering you away, leaving him open-mouthed and wide-eyed as he watched you and your bright red hair head toward the exit.

Oh boy. Alright. Ok. Everybody sit down, we’re about to have a masterclass in everything MCR.
The thing about My Chemical Romance is they’re a concept album band, which means each of their albums tell a story as a whole. For that reason, I can’t just recommend my personal favourite songs because they’re all part of a big whole. I’ll do my best to break them down in order of personal preference.
TL;DNR: For those of you who don’t have all day to scroll through full album analyses:

*these last two are just Gerard Way covers, but considering they’re featuring Ray Toro, that’s half the band right there…
The Black Parade
Concept: A man known as The Patient dies and accounts his life and death, dealing with his struggles with war and disease, and his fears about where he’s going to go in the afterlife.
Track Listing:
The end.
Dead!
This is How I Disappear
Sharpest Lives
Welcome to the Black Parade
I Don’t Love You
House of Wolves
Cancer
Mama
Sleep
Teenagers
Disenchanted
Famous Last Words
Blood
The whole album is honestly so good. It’s worth a listen from start to finish at least once. I’ve got absolutely no bad things to say about the songs that aren’t my faves, as they’re equally as explosive as everything else. That said…
Personal Faves:
Mama
Teenagers
Cancer
Famous Last Words
Welcome to the Black Parade
Dead!
Disenchanted
If you want the stuff that’ll psych you up/empower you, go for Welcome to the Black Parade, Teenagers, Famous Last Words, Mama, and Dead. If you want some real sad shit, go for Cancer, Disenchanted, and I Don’t Love You. I have yet to find out how to not weep all the way through WttBP, Famous Last Words, or Cancer, so you have been warned.
Dip your Toe in the Water With…
Welcome to the Black Parade
Teenagers
Famous Last Words
Things to Keep in Mind
Mama’s got an extra special guest appearance by one Liza Minnelli, and oh man, is it absolutely worth checking out. Next to Welcome to the Black Parade, this one might just be the most theatrical song in the entire album??? Bold statement, but I like to call it the Bohemian Rhapsody of MCR. It’s SO. GOOD.
Blood is the hidden track at the end of the album. There’s about 2 minutes of silence in the original album before it starts. If you want the version without the false start, nab the version from The Black Parade is Dead live album.
If you’re madly in love with this album, you can find their Black Parade concert live in Mexico, The Black Parade is Dead for free on their youtube channel. Throw it up on your tv screen and it’s like you’re there in person.
B-Sides
Kill All Your Friends
Heaven Help Us
My Way Home is Through You
All the Black Parade B-sides are great, but Kill All Your Friends is the real standout (and has the biggest connection to Umbrella Academy, if that excites you reference-wise).
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
Concept: This is a bit of a split narrative, partially a loving tribute following Gerard and Mikey Way’s grandmother’s passing, and partially a revenge plot. The full plot Gee had in mind took a bit of a backseat after they shifted focus on the grief side of things, but the full original concept is worth the price of admission either way. The revenge plot follows a man who makes a deal with the devil to reunite with his lost lover, if he can collect 1,000 evil souls. He sets out on his murder quest and finally reunites with the woman he loves, only to find she never loved him. He vows to take her down with him, but discovers he’s the 1,000th soul.
Track Listing:
Helena
Give ‘Em Hell, Kid
To the End
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison
I’m Not Okay (I Promise)
The Ghost of You
The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You
Interlude
Thank You for the Venom
Hang 'Em High
It’s Not a Fashion Statement, It’s a Deathwish
Cemetery Drive
I Never Told You What I Do for a Living
This one is loud and dark, and fast as fuck. I use it almost exclusively as workout music because it will make you want to punch everything in the face. You wanna feel like you could take down all your enemies at once? Listen to this album. This one’s a lot easier to break down in terms of listening to songs here and there instead of all at once.
Personal Faves:
Cemetery Drive
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison
Thank You For the Venom
I’m Not Ok (I Promise)
Helena
Ghost of You
Some Underrated Gems:
The Jetset Life is Gonna Kill You
To the End
Hang Em High
I Never Told You What I Did for a Living
Dip Your Toe in the Water With…
Helena
I’m Not Ok (I Promise)
Ghost of You
Things to Keep in Mind
Helena is essentially what got the band off the ground. The music video is really something and really set the tone for what early 2000s emo culture would become. If I didn’t love The Black Parade as much as I did, I’d recommend starting with Helena above everything else.
The Ghost of You music video is also a masterpiece. Gerard went to his director and asked for Saving Private Ryan, and that’s what he got! This video also happened to come out around the same time Green Day’s Wake Me Up When September Ends video came out and Gee was worried the anti-war rethorics in both would be too similar, but Billie Joe Armstrong sat him down and gave him a pep talk about how even though their concepts are similar, they’re always going to be coming at it in different ways.
If you want to get a really solid insight into where the band came from, see the boys goofing off, and see how Gerard’s struggles with mental health and addiction drives so much of what he does, check out Life on the Murder Scene, also free on youtube. It also gives a brief sneaky peek about early days concepts for the Umbrella Academy comics!
Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
Concept: In a post-apocalyptic California in 2019(!!!), four rebels who call themselves the Killjoys (Party Poison, Fun Ghoul, Kobra Kid, and Jet-Star) set out to recover a young girl from the evil corporation, BL/ind. Their progress is narrated by Dr. Death Defy, a radio dj who maintains public morale in an otherwise gloomy new world where electricity is a rare commodity and people worship at the hands of Destroya, a giant dormant robot expected to deliver everyone from evil.
Track Listing:
Look Alive, Sunshine
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
Bulletproof Heart
SING
Planetary (GO!)
The Only Hope For Me Is You
Jet-Star And The Kobra Kid/Traffic Report
Party Poison
Save Yourself, I’ll Hold Them Back
S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W
Summertime
DESTROYA
The Kids From Yesterday
Goodnite, Dr. Death
Vampire Money
This album is radically different than the others in that it’s much mellower. The songs are interspersed with narrative interludes by Dr. Death Defy to better explain the storyline. Danger Days came after one scrapped compilation album (which I’ll get to soon enough…) At this point, Gee’s comic career had started to take off with Umbrella Academy, and things had started to naturally wind down with the band. Gee’s mindspace was clearly in comic-mode, and he upcycled a comic book idea he had kicking around with a comic writer friend of his, Shaun Simon for the new album. After the band’s breakup, Gerard took whatever concepts they couldn’t realize through the lyrics and music videos back to Shaun Simon to make a Killjoys comic. Much of the concept backstory explained above is pulled from this.
Personal Faves:
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
Bulletproof Heart
SING
Planetary [GO!]
The Only Hope For Me Is You
Party Poison
Vampire Money
This is the album where I tend to get bored halfway through and switch over to The Black Parade (whoops…) But it is 100% worth listening to it from start to finish, again, at least once, if anything, because Destroya and Vampire Money are something else… Bulletproof Heart, SING, and The Only Hope for Me Is You are, at least in my opinion, the standouts of the more mellow songs. S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W, Summertime, and The Kids From Yesterday are also super mellow if you’re into the vibe of the previous three and want more of that.
Planetary Go! is… possibly one of my favourite MCR songs of all time??? (Considering how much I love The Black Parade, that’s a pretty bold statement). It’s the only dance track they ever made, and is it ever a Bop. This is one of my go-to’s when I just need to take a break from whatever’s stressing me out and have a silly little dance party.
Dip Your Toe in the Water With:
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
SING
Planetary [Go!]
The Only Hope for me is You
Bulletproof Heart
Things to Keep In Mind:
Danger Days is an incredibly visual album! You really need the music videos to get the whole story. Na Na Na and SING tell the whole story pretty succinctly.
If you’re really feeling that cliffhanger from the end of the SING music video, check out the Killjoys comics. It’s a single volume under the same name as the album, following The Girl a few years after the music videos’ timeline.
S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W was inspired by Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds by the Beatles, which really speaks to the overall vibe of the song.
Something I literally just discovered now, looking up the album, there’s an EP of basically fight scene tracks off a special edition of Danger Days called The Mad Gear and Missile Kid. I’ve not listened to them yet, but from the looks of things, it’s got a pure punk rock vibe and they’re apparently what the band imagined the killjoys listened to on the road.
Fun trivia that I personally get a kick out of: Vampire Money was written out of spite after Gerard refused to contribute a song to the New Moon soundtrack for Twilight (Stephenie Meyer was a huge MCR fan and approached them numerous times to get involved in the films).
Conventional Weapons
Here it is! The scrapped compilation album! These songs were written pre-Danger Days and were presented at a concert in Japan, at which point, Gerard realized it wasn’t the sound they were after and it was promptly nixed. It’s a real shame, because there are some jams up in here, but at least they (or their record label, I can’t remember which at this point) eventually did decide to release the full “album” in 5 two-single EPs at a time.
Number One:
Boy Division
Tomorrow’s Money
Number Two:
AMBULANCE
Gun.
Number Three:
The World is Ugly
The Light Behind Your Eyes
Number Four:
Kiss the Ring
Make Room!!!
Number Five:
Surrender the Night
Burn Bright
Personal Faves:
Tomorrow’s Money
Boy Division
AMBULANCE
Kiss the Ring
Make Room!!!
Things to Keep in Mind:
I often like to give a shout out to AMBULANCE and Kiss the Ring for having opening chords that sound exactly like they’ve come straight off a Queen and Green Day album respectively.
See Tomorrow’s Money for the spectacular way they rhyme “vampire/empire/brush fire/tap wire” all in one verse.
See also Gun. for the far sillier way they rhyme “gun/sun/fun/run”.
You can tell with some of these songs that there was the stirrings of Danger Days in here. Make Room!!! is the most obvious, with the same mantra of “everybody wants to change the world” from Na Na Na making an appearance toward the end.
I think in some iteration between Conventional Weapons and Danger Days, there were some songs that did make it to the Danger Days album that were called something else. Party Poison, for example, had originally been Death Before Disco.
Covers
My Chemical Romance, in one form or another, have done some spectacular covers over the years. I’m including the Umbrella Academy covers Gerard did with Ray because that’s basically half the band right there.
Desolation Row (Watchmen soundtrack)
Hazy Shade of Winter (Umbrella Academy)
Happy Together (Umbrella Academy)
Common People (BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge)
Under Pressure (ft. The Used)
Those are the ones I’m aware of. If there are more good-quality covers I’m missing, please, send them my way– I would love that!
I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Ok, look, I’m gonna upset some people by having this on the bottom of my list. I’m sorry, I feel bad about it, but the fact of the matter is, I’m only now getting into their earliest stuff. Bullets is a bit of an acquired taste because it’s incredibly raw both sound-wise and in terms of content. They recorded it before they had the resources to really put out a crisp sounding album, and they were still learning about how to construct songs, but there’s still a lot of beauty in that that I know plenty people appreciate far more than I do. MCR wouldn’t have gained an underground following without this album, after all!
I have exactly zero stakes in this album, so I’m sure someone else out there has a better grasp of this one than I do.
Concept: I know very little about what’s going on in this album, aside from the fact that Gerard was driven to create the band after being in New York, watching the Twin Towers fall during 9/11. A bunch of his more end of the world storylines from many of his works (including Umbrella Academy) are inspired by 9/11. This is a prevalent thread throughout the album, though I’m not familiar with the how beyond Skylines and Turnstiles.
Track Listing:
Romance
Honey, This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough for the Two of Us
Vampires Will Never Hurt You
Drowning Lessons
Our Lady of Sorrows
Headfirst for Halos
Skylines and Turnstiles
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville
This Is the Best Day Ever
Cubicles
Demolition Lovers
Personal Faves:
Headfirst for Halos
Honey, This Mirror isn’t Big Enough for the Two of Us
Vampires Will Never Hurt You
Our Lady of Sorrows
I’m playing fast and loose with my faves here. I’ve only heard these songs a handful of times, but they’re the ones I’m inclined to at least listen to for the guitar work, which at times, is quite fantastic. I will say though, from what I’ve seen of the lyrics, there’s some stellar stuff in here I hope to properly get into some time soon.
All the guys are still plugging away and releasing music either in their own bands (most recently, Frank Iero andthe Patience and Mikey Way’s band, Electric Century) or solo (in the case of Gerard Way and Ray Toro). I wish I was more well-versed in their goings-ons, but I’ve not been following their musical careers beyond Gerard’s (come back and talk to me if you want to get into his Hesitant Alien solo album and his more recent releases).
And that is your crash course in all things MCR.

Imagine My Chemical Romance fighting over you and trying to impress you (Alternate Endings)
Based on this prompt from Anonymous: Can you please do an imagine where all of MCR has a crush on the reader, and they like try to impress the reader/try to win the reader over? Maybe like an alternate  ending situation?
This was not what you had thought coming on tour would be like. You were here to have fun, to play some shows, to meet some fans - even though you weren’t nearly as popular as the other bands that were on this tour, you still had hope that you had some - and to learn more about the business from the more experienced musicians. Instead, you found yourself being the center of attention from each member of My Chemical Romance. It was any fans dream, obviously, but to you it was just annoying. There was only one of them that you had feelings towards and trying to let any of the others down always seemed to end up in drama. Even backstage right now, with an hour to go before the show, there  were arguments bringing the mood down about who would come on and play a special guest start in your set just to be close to you.
But thankfully, you caught eyes with the musician that you felt the closest to. He stopped the squabbling completely, though the others did not, and approached you. “Want to get out of here?” He asked. You accepted immediately, taking his hand, and allowed him to lead you outside for a little while.
Gerard Way
Tumblr media
It was hot outside, blazing in July but he took you out to a park that was near the venue and had a little lake which cooled the temperature down a bit. He wiped sweat off of his forehead and then got down on his knees in the grass. You joined him, laughing as he attempted to roll up the sleeves of the sweater that he was wearing but they kept falling back down.
“Allow me,” You helped, rolling them up and securing them by his elbows.
“I made you a little something - it’s back on the bus so I’ll have to give it to you after the show.” Gerard said, knuckles going through the green grass under him. He looked shy, it was sweet.
“Great, now you’re going to have me distracted the whole show. You gotta tell me what it is.” You pressed.
Gerard laughed, avoiding looking at you. “Alright, it’s a drawing of you dressed as Batman and I’m Wonder Woman.”
“Knee high boots and all?” You laughed, trying to hide it behind your fingers.
“Of course.” Gerard giggled.
“I’ll love it and keep it forever,” You promised, knowing that it would be damn good if it was drawn by Gerard. “You should get the real costume though, you’d look hot.”
Mikey Way
Tumblr media
“Come on,” Mikey said, holding a finger to his lips to urge you to be quiet. It would be much easier to get away if the others didn’t notice, and you two silently slinked your way out of the concert venue and out into the open air. It was the hour of twilight, the stars starting to show in the sky, a mist lightly rolling on the streets and only the sounds of excited, cued up fans interrupted the tranquility.
Now that you two were finally alone, Mikey reached up and cupped your jaw, thumb swiping across your cheek. He always thought you had the best skin, was always commented on it.
“I got you something, it’s back in the bus though so I’ll have to give it to you after the show.” He admitted.
“A present for me?” You asked, slightly surprised. “You know my birthday was a couple of months ago, right?”
“I know, but I saw it and I thought of you. Alright, I’ll ruin it for you. It’s the Blu-Ray video of the entire eclipse from this year. I know you were bummed we didn’t get to see it because we were overseas-”
“That’s so thoughtful.” You said, your jaw dropping. You had only mentioned it once before, that you were disappointed you weren’t able to see it and yet he had remembered. “You’re the best Mikey, thank you.” You leaned up to him and kissed his left temple, leaving his grinning.
Frank Iero
Tumblr media
Frank didn’t just take you to outside the venue, he covered himself with a hat and took you a restaurant that was nearby. You argued that the show was going to be starting soon and he told you flat out that there was plenty of time.
The restaurant had a back patio, to which the two of you went for a bit of privacy in case any of the fans were coming out to try and get something to eat. Frank even pulled out the chair for you, and you took a seat.
“Get anything you want,” Frank said, smiling. “It’s just a small price to pay for some alone time with you.”
“I’ll take you up on that,” You said, but you didn’t open the menu. You just looked over at Frank, staring into his hazel eyes as he did your own. You took a deep breath in and then let it out as you realized this really was the only alone time you two have had since you met.
“So remember how we stopped in New York a couple of weeks ago and Ray and I went out for a while?” Frank asked. You nodded, tilting your head in confusion. “I got something for you, sort of.”
“Like a present? Frank - there’s no need for that.”
“It’s not something I can physically give you. Just show you.” That made you even more confused, up until he stood up, awkwardly pulled up his shirt and showed you a fresh tattoo - still peeling a little bit but mostly healed - of your band logo. You opened your mouth in surprise.
“What - why?”
“Now you’re stuck being friends with me because I’ve got that.” Frank giggled. “And you’re honestly fucking amazing so it’s something I don’t mind having on me forever. Impressed by me yet?”
“You do amaze me, that’s for sure.” You said, still in disbelief.
Ray Toro
Tumblr media
Instead of standing outside of the venue like you thought you were going to do, Ray lead you towards a costume store. It seemed like one of the pop up ones that appeared whenever Halloween was close. You hadn’t even had the chance to think about a costume yet, all you knew was that you had a show that night and you wanted to dress up at least a little bit.
“Do you know what you want to dress up as?” Ray asked, browsing the store without leaving your side, leisurely taking a stroll through the aisles.
“I haven’t given it much thought,” You admitted, stopping to look at a vampire costume. “I can’t do anything too ... gothy or anything because Gerard might think I’m trying to be him.” Ray laughed at that and agreed.
“I can think up some really good ideas. I’ll tell them to you but ... there’s a twist.” Ray said, putting his hands behind his back and did his best to look innocent.
“What’s the twist?” You asked.
“They would be couples costumes and the other half of the couple would, hopefully, be me...” Ray trailed off.
“You’re really going to have to impress me with these ideas then.” You mused, smiling.
Thirty minutes later, you both exited the fitting rooms, wearing your couples costume. It wasn’t quite complete because the hair wasn’t right, nor the make up but the actual outfits. “I remember you saying that Wolverine had one of your favorite comic covers, I didn’t think you would try to emulate that.” You said, looking at his X-Men suit.
“You remembered?” Ray said, surprised since that interview had been years ago. “You made a really good X-Men as well.” You had dressed in your favorite costume. It didn’t exactly match but showed you were part of a team.
“I’ll just come out and say it, Ray. I’m impressed. This is going to be a great Halloween.”
Bonus Bob Bryar
Tumblr media
Bob kept holding your hand as you went out into the crisp, autumn hair. There was a street fair going on a block over and silently, you both agreed to go there.
“You’ve known the guys for a while, do you think they’ll ever stop fighting?” You asked, nervously. “If something happens to the band, I’ll never forgive myself.”
“It’ll stop once you make it stop.” Bob said, reaching into his pocket with his other hand to count out the change that he had in there. He seemed satisfied. “Once you either tell them which one of us you like or tell us that you don’t like any of us. They won’t press it.”
“You sure?” You asked.
“Positive. Come on, we have a little time, let’s have some fun.”
You didn’t let go of Bob’s hand and he didn’t let go of yours. He bought you two churros with your favorite topping and then stopped in front of a ‘pop the balloons’ game. He counted his change again and then grinned. “I’ll play.” He told the barker.
You always knew that these games were scams but you took a couple of steps back to avoid being in Bob’s way. Surprisingly, he was quite good at this game. He threw the darts and all four of them hit targets, and all four of the balloons had popped. Even the game manager seemed surprised.
“Four  balloons - that’s one of these prizes here,” He said, sweeping his hand over the medium sized plushies. “Or try your luck again and go for the large!”
“I want one of those.” Bob said, pointing at one of the smaller plushies that happened to be your favorite animal.
“Those are for two balloons, not -”
“So I’ll take two of them, then.” Bob shrugged. The game manager handed them over and Bob gave you one of the little stuffed animals. “We have matching ones now.”
“I’m very impressed.” You smiled, kissing him on the cheek.

Without You Is How I Disappear - Frerard
*New more ao3-like format Read it on ao3 By PagebyPaige
Summary: I read an amazing fic that I thought was a mcr reunion fic that ended up being heart-shattering angst. Long story short, I decided I would rewrite the fic myself and end it the way I wished it had ended.
Word Count: 1139 Chapters: 1/? Language: English
•Fandoms: My Chemical Romance •Rating: Teen and Up Audiences •Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply •Categories: M/M •Characters: Frank Iero, Gerard Way, Bandit Way, Ray Toro, Lindsey Way - mention, Mikey Way •Relationships: Frank Iero/Gerard Way, Frerard - relationship •Additional Tags: (Abbreviated version) Angst, Fluff, Angst with Fluff, mcr reunion, Resolved Angst, Attempted Suicide, tagging is hard
It was the worst thing that ever could've happened.
The only thing keeping Frank alive was gone, and now it was killing him. If things didn't get better today, Frank was going to die.
Every day for weeks, Frank kept the same mantra. If things didn't get better, he would die. So far, he was getting closer and closer.
He'd gotten so bad that he decided to fly out to California. If he didn't make things better, Frank would die.
Frank kicked at the dust beneath his feet where he stood at the front door of his best friend. Some best friend he was, someone who didn't even return Frank's calls anymore.
Finally, Frank knocked gently at the white-painted door. Who was he kidding? Gerard had a family, a daughter. He wouldn't want Frank back in his life. Of course, Frank had to be right.
"Oh, hi Frank." Gerard looked older now, his fiery "Danger Days hair" faded to a dark orange. His tone was clearly annoyed, exactly what Frank feared.
"S-sorry, am I interrupting?" Frank cursed himself for stuttering.
Gerard sighed. "It's fine, Frank. Just, what do you want?"
"I was just wondering if you, um, wanted to reconnect some time? I haven't seen you in a while..." Frank trailed off. It was a stupid idea, anyways. Gerard had a life, a solo career. He didn't need Frank.
"Sorry Frank. It's just that, well, I don't think that it's a good idea for us to be friends right now." Not even friends? Frank thought back to the fierce kisses, the screaming lyrics, him playing until his fingers bled. They were so close, and now they couldn't even be friends.
"Oh, okay. Well, um, bye then."
"Frank." Gerard stopped him. Frank let himself hope. "If you have some time, there's a nice little soda fountain type place, really cute and all, and you should probably hit it before you leave town."
"O-okay, I'll check it out."
"Bye Frank."
"Bye Gerard."
Frank left, feeling worse than when he got there. They one man who could fix him had somehow made him worse. If things didn't get better, Frank was going to kill himself.
Frank thought back to the past five, no, six years since he had lost the band. He had tried to make music on his own, but so far that was failing spectacularly. He couldn't play a guitar without thinking of Gerard's perfect voice singing the vocals it should've been matching.
The truth was, Frank was just as upset about the breakup as the fans, though they didn't know that, of course. He hated it. He hated everything. The band had been his everything: it was a distraction from all of his many flaws, his failures. Gerard had survived alcoholism, addiction, attempted suicide, everything because of the band, but suddenly now he couldn't stand to be around Frank anymore. Frank thought Gerard had needed the band as much as he did, but apparently not.
It was probably just another thing Frank had fucked up. Still himself, Frank did everything Gerard asked of him. That meant he did indeed visit the soda fountain, which was of course in a drugstore. Sitting on a stool on the far end of the counter, he was left alone. If today didn't get better, he would kill himself. He looked around at all the different pill bottles lined up neatly on shelves. Any variety of things in there could've been deadly. On a whim, Frank picked up his phone and scrolled through his contacts. Scrolling past all the familiar names, Frank reached one he hadn't looked at in a long while. If he was going to die, he might as well indulge himself. Frank hit call and raised his phone to his ear.
"Frank?"
"Hey Ray."
"Hi Frank. What can I do for you?"
"Are those cars in the background? Ray, if you're busy..."
"Well if it's urgent Frank..."
"No, no. It's not a problem. I'll call you back later?"
"Sure thing. Why don't you call Gerard? I'm sure he'd be able to help with whatever you need, unless it's guitar chords." They both laughed, but Frank wasn't sure if he was laughing at Ray's comment or the absurdity of his question.
"Sure, why not. Bye Ray."
"See ya, Frank."
Frank clicked his phone off and sat quietly, musing to himself. Maybe he would call Gerard. If today didn't get better, Frank would die.
The first time he tried, Gerard didn't even pick up. Feeling desperate, Frank tried again. And again. On probably the third or fourth time, Gerard finally answered.
"Frank, for God's sake. You need to stop calling me, I said we shouldn't talk right now!" Without a word, Frank hung up.
Frank knew he shouldn't have bothered Gerard. He was just generally a failure. He had stopped taking his meds because they weren't working. He stopped picking up his guitar because he no longer found joy in playing. He knew, secretly, the only thing that would fix him. He still loved Gerard, and the band. He needed both if he was ever going to be okay again. Just like so many of their fans, the band had saved his life. Just like every teenager ever had said, the band understood him.
Frank took out a pair of earbuds and scrolled through the music on his phone. Yes, he had My Chem in his music. How couldn't he? Playing it on stage or listening like a fan, Frank needed the music. This time, though, the music wasn't enough for him. He still felt the aching in his heart because they weren't going back in next week to record the new material, they weren't going back on tour in a few days. MCR was done, just like Gerard said.
Suddenly angry, Frank yanked the earbuds out of his ears. His throat was tight; he didn't trust himself to speak. Frank made the decision: today had gone to shit, and he was going to die. He walked out, almost in a daze, and got back in his car. He drove in vaguely the direction he came from, stopping only when he reached a bridge.
He got out and walked. There was no question to him that he deserved this. He only joined the band because he thought the lead singer was cute, after all. He was only in the band because they needed an "extra guy" to help out Ray. Frank wasn't necessary. He meant nothing to the guys, and they didn't need him. Gerard denied all rumors of them being together after it had ended, although Frank's feelings were still very clearly present.
Frank reached the side of the bridge, and climbed up the side railing. As he stood, teetering on top, he brought back his worst fear. Gerard never loved you.

Truth Is Now Acceptable
Pairing: none
Genre: Fluff
Summary: Request fic for @bipolardonnie. “could i request a oneshot with an ftm reader who is drummer of mcr? where he comes out to the whole band and they all receive it well and cuddles ensue? xx”
“You cut your hair,” Ray noticed as he brushed past you on the tour bus, trying to reach the cabinet where the band kept their food,  so he could have breakfast before you arrived at the next venue.
“…..Yeah,” you shrugged vaguely.
“Well, I like it,” Ray smiled. “I think the pixie cut thing suits you a lot more than long hair, anyway.”
“Thanks,” you smiled back, unsure whether to say more. The haircut was the first step in the beginning of something you’d wanted, but been terrified, to do for a long time now. If your friend and bandmate was accepting of this first change, that was a good sign….right?
Better be brave, you decided, and move on to phase two.
“Is Frank awake yet?” you asked curiously.
“Yeah, I’m up,” Frank mumbled sleepily as he got out of his bunk. “Shit, where are we playing today?”
“Chicago, I think?” you shrugged. You’d had a lot more on your mind last night than the upcoming concert.
Maybe I should have rehearsed my drumming more, you thought with a hint of self-doubt. Is it selfish of me to do this now, when it could distract from my music career? If what I’m about to do causes drama within the band, how are we going to perform together?
“Anyway, Y/N, why were you looking for me?” Frank wondered.
“Oh…..um…..” Maybe I should just forget about it, you thought with a frown. You could wear the skirt that’s been your ‘uniform’ for this whole tour one more night. You were used to living a lie.
No, you thought. The dysphoria it gives me is too damn much. You told yourself, firmly, to man up.
“I was wondering if I could borrow one of your shirts,” you confessed, before you lost your nerve.
“Are all your shirts in the wash, or something?” Frank asked, raising a confused eyebrow.
“Well, you’re the smallest, so you’re about my size, and…..”
“You don’t have to borrow Frank’s stuff,” Mikey interrupted, setting down the bass he’d been tuning. “We can tell the driver to make a pit stop at a laundromat if you need to wash some clothes. Or even the mall, if you want some new dresses or something…..”
“I don’t want dresses!” you snapped. “You don’t get it!”
“What’s the matter, girl?” Gerard asked, looking up from the comic book he’d been reading in his bunk.
“Don’t call me ‘girl’,” you pleaded. Fuck, this was all going wrong.
“Why not?” Gerard asked, confused.
“Because…….” Your heart pounded like a kick drum in your chest. Did you dare say it? You’d wanted to tell them, for so long. They were your four closest friends. You guys had always shared everything with each other, especially in those early days, when the five of you were crammed into a tiny van, like sardines, unsure if you were ever really going to be able to leave Jersey, or go pro.
And now you were pros. You’d fought through so much as a band to get here, from haters who didn’t understand your music, to addiction and mental illness, to deaths (you still remembered Mikey crying on your shoulder at his grandma’s funeral), to being blamed for deaths (fuck the Daily Mail)…..
The five of you had stuck together through far bigger things than this, you realized. And you hated keeping such a big secret from them for so long. You had to believe that your friends would accept you. And so, taking a deep breath, you summoned your nerve.
“Because I’m not a girl,” you said quietly.
“You’re……not?” Ray blinked, simply confused at first.
“Does that mean…..you’re a boy?” Gerard realized.
“Yes,” you confessed, relieved to finally be able to say it, after all this time. “I’ve known for a long time. I just didn’t know how to tell you. I think I started to realize it around the time we started touring in support of Bullets, and…..”
“Why wouldn’t you just tell us, man?” Frank gasped, pulling you into a hug. “Did you think we wouldn’t want to be in this band with you anymore?”
“I….I didn’t know what to think,” you admitted. “But…..yeah, I’m a man on the inside. And….I want my outside to match my inside.”
“Well, don’t borrow Frank’s clothes,” Ray chuckled, putting another arm around you. “We can get you some masculine stuff to wear at the mall today, that doesn’t smell like unwashed guitarist butt.”
“You smell like unwashed guitarist butt, too, Toro!” Frank protested, and everyone laughed.
Your bandmates were taking this so…..easily. You almost couldn’t believe it.
“Are you sure me being a man doesn’t…..change the way you feel about me at all?” you asked uncertainly.
“Nah, it just means I get a new brother,” Mikey grinned, jumping onto the hug pile.
“And as the biggest brother,” Gerard smiled, wrapping arms around the lot of you, “It’s my job to punch out anybody who tries to mess with you.”
“If anyone on this tour gives you shit for being transgender, just tell me,” Frank agreed. “I’ll set ‘em straight.”
“You have all of our support,” Ray promised seriously.
“Thank you, you guys,” you said, nearly moved to tears.
“Hey, if you’re gonna be a man now, no crying,” Mikey teased, playfully punching you in the arm.
“I’m sorry,” you said, wiping your tears on the back of your hand. “I just love you guys a lot. It means so much to me that I can be out to you now, and you accept me.”
“Of course we accept you,” Frank assured you. “Whether you’re a boy, or a girl, or neither, you play drums like a beast, and that’s all that matters.”
“Besides, this band was always a little genderfucked, anyway,” Gerard chuckled. “I mean, I’m a man who wears makeup every night, for Pete’s sake.”
“And made out with a dude with a beard,” you reminded, sticking out your tongue.
“Well, if you’re well enough to tease Gerard, I guess you’re feeling better,” Ray said, looking satisfied.
“I am,” you nodded, so relieved to finally be able to be yourself.
“If you’re no longer identifying as female, then what name should we call you?” Mikey asked sensitively.
“I don’t know yet,” you admitted. “I’m still deciding.”
“Well, whatever you decide, just let us know,” Frank replied. “For now, we’ll just do our best to remember to call you ‘he’ or ‘him’ when we talk about you.”
“That would be great,” you nodded.
“Alright, then, boys,” Gerard grinned, “who’s ready to put on our first show as a five-man band?”

10 Albums That Made A Lasting Impression During Your Teenage Years
I lived my Teen years (13-19) right in the middle of the Aughts, 2002 through 2008. That was an interesting time for music. Emo revival was just starting and Hardcore bands of the 90′s were starting to figure out what came next for them. I’m sure pop music was doing interesting things, but I was adamantly opposed to pop music as teenage, so there won’t be much of that.
The only Rule™ for this list (because lists need rules), is to use only one Album per Artist/Band. I will also try to go chronologically, but if you’re playing along at home, you make your list however you want. The “Chronogality” (that’s a world, don’t look it up) might get a bit skewed because, as I previously mentioned, I tended to shy away from popular music, so some of the albums didn’t come out during this time frame, it’s just when I discovered them.
On with the list!
2002
Gorillaz - S/T (2001)
Tumblr media
Okay, so right out the gate I’m cheating. The brainchild of musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett came out just before I was a teen in 2001. But the virtual band consisting of 2-D, Murdoc, Russel, and Noodle illustrated by Hewlett was one of the first bands I discovered for myself. And I didn’t discover it until it had been out for a while.
Largely to do with their interactive flash animated website and bizarre music videos, their music and artistic style largely influenced my own art and led me to discover Tank Girl, Hewletts comic book series.
You might be thinking “Didn’t they say they didn’t listen to pop music? Their first pick is a pop group, what’s going on here?” To which I remind you I said there wouldn’t be much of that, not none at all. This was also “Phase 1″ of the Gorillaz master plan, entitled Celebrity Take Down, so that resonated with me. Also, the Gorillaz may enjoy some commercial success, but at this point they were still largely an indie group, collaborating with Hip Hop artists, producers, and indie rappers (Kid Koala, Dan the Automator, and Del the Funky Homosapien respectively). Also, revisiting this album later on led me to discover Del’s other project Deltron 3030.
2003
AFI - Sing the Sorrow (2003)
Tumblr media
2003 was the year I discovered the color black, and I’ve never worn another color since (exaggeration, but not by much). This is also when I started to struggle with depression and other feelings and the goth-punk songs written by singer Davey Havok, bassist Hunter Burgan, guitarist Jade Puget, and drummer Adam Carson spoke to my early teen angst.
My introduction to AFI came from seeing the video for Girls Not Grey on the music channel Fuse (formally Much Music). I then probably pirated the music, because it was the 00′s, but I did also eventually buy a copy of the Album. This was also the first commercially successful for harcore-group-turned-goth band AFireInside.
AFI was the group that bonded my first real best friend and I together. We were both obsessed with the album, and we were determined to start a band (which we did and it was terrible). Together we worked our way through their back catalog and eventually discovered punk and hardcore music.
Minor Threat - Out of Step (1983)
Tumblr media
After listening to Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes by AFI and learning of the existence of Hardcore music, it wasn’t long before I discovered the “Big Three” of 80′s hardcore punk music: Black Flag, Bad Brains, and Minor Threat.
The icon art of Raymond Pettibon for Black Flag is still something that influences my art and Bad Brains influences many of my favorite bands and I appreciate them much more today, but Minor Threat’s anger is something that really resonated with me at the time. They definitely shaped the sound of the next band I was in, which was only a little better of an attempt than my first band.
Strangely enough, the Straight Edge mentality that is extremely prevalent throughout Minor Threats music never really took hold on me, but their other messages were clear to me, we’re outsiders and we’re taking a stand for what we believe in.
2004
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004)
Tumblr media
After my band broke up, I got pretty sick of the monotony of 80’s hardcore music (get over it, it’s boring). I was still pretty goth, even if I was a hardcore kid, so the second album by MCR was the perfect pop-punk answer to my jaded hardcore sensibilities, with Gerard Way’s long black hair and makeup, guitarist Frank Iero & bassist Mikey Way’s emo-hair, and lead guitarist Ray Toro & drummer Matt Pelissier’s heavy riffs and fast tempo playing.
Three Cheers remains one of my favorite guilty pleasure albums. I got made fun of a lot by my hardcore friends and ex-bandmates for liking them, but my lifelong friend Nyk and I would drive around (with my newly acquired license) and sing along to “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” at the top of our lungs. Sorry about outing you, Nyk.
The Blood Brothers - Crimes (2004)
Tumblr media
After cleansing my hardcore pallet with emo music, I discovered The Blood Brothers seminal album Crimes. It was a perfect mix of the hardcore music I had started my teens with and the more theatrical emo music. Jordan Blilie’s soulful crooning and shrill scream and Johnny Whitney, whose voice has been described as “a child being tortured”, battle over lead vocal duties with Cody Votolato, Mark Gajadhar, and Morgan Henderson rounding out the instrumentalists (they all play multiple instruments), The Blood Brothers are a force to be reckoned with.
I didn’t know hardcore music could sound like this. I learned people called it “post-hardcore” usually lower case like that. The Blood Brothers and the label they were on, Three One G, led me to many other bands that I loved.
I’m pretty proud to say that between 2004 and 2007 when they broke up, I never missed a show when they came to town. Their live performances were extremely energetic. You could feel the electricity in the air.
2005
Modern Life Is War - My Love, My Way (2003)
Tumblr media
In 2005 MLIW released the album Witness, which is a fantastic album and I contemplated putting it on here instead, but in anticipation of the new album coming out I listened My Love fairly constantly. My hardcore friends were already fans of Modern Life, but it wasn’t until 2005 that I discovered them.
It’s hard to say how important My Love, My Way is to me without sounding cliche, but this album honestly saved my life. I had been struggling with my depression and Jeff Eaton told me it’s okay, I am too, but we’ll get through this. I’ll let the lyrics speak for themselves.
“We’ve been to the edge and we know what it’s like to want to die, and that’s something we won’t glorify. We’ll leave those miserable times behind. How far can I go? I’m rising from the depths of my own hell. I don’t need another tragic tale, I need the strength to walk the other way. I found conviction in my ever changing mind. I grew up tied down and bleeding on the inside, but I know I was a victim of my own device, and I want to live to see a brand new life.”
Modern Life Is War is another band that I went to every show I could. Even driving to Marshalltown, Iowa to see their Farewell Show. Their breakup didn’t last long as they got back together in 2013 to release another album and play more shows. They are still going strong now.
2006
Tegan and Sara - So Jealous (2006)
Tumblr media
Sisters Sara and Tegan Quinn playing heartfelt indie songs about break-ups is exactly what I needed in 2006 when my first serious partner dumped me. Even listening to it now as I write this, it’s bringing up memories of feeling heartbroken and that every song is specifically about you.
Where do you go with your broken heart in tow? How do you know when to let go? Where does the good go??
Everyone who has experienced love and a hard break-up should listen to this album. Do that and tell me it’s not perfect.
Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica (2000)
Tumblr media
2006-2007 was my senior year of high school, and I was lucky enough to have a pretty incredible art program at my school. I had teachers who were actually working artists and forced us as students to create better and better art. They treated us like artists and it was the first time I felt like an adult was giving me any respect.
My studio art teacher was a huge fan of Modest Mouse and would play their music during class. This was the golden age of the iPod, so I soon had Good News For People Who Love Bad News and The Moon & Antarctica and listened to it even while not in class. It was also one of the first Vinyl albums I ever bought.
Twangy guitars playing over Isaac Brock’s strange voice singing about the concept of being an asshole and that everyone has the capability of fucking you over. What’s not to love? And the deeply critical song “A Different City” about the escapism of moving away and the terrifying reality of failing. A great song to listen to when you’re making your plans to move out on your own for the first time.
2007
Against Me! - Searching For A Former Clarity (2005)
Tumblr media
After graduating high school with limited interest in attending college, my parents bought me a laptop as incentive to apply. I did and went for about one semester before dropping out, but now I had my own computer, so that was a pretty good trade off.
I ended up putting three AM! Albums and one Mischief Brew album on my computer and I listened to them constantly. I didn’t have internet access at my house during 2007 so that was the only music I had. Against Me! became my favorite band. Laura Jane Grace’s take on punk-rock and anarchy shaped my worldview.
I didn’t realize then why Laura’s music was so important to me beyond the anarchist politics until years later in 2012 when she came out as a transgender woman. In 2007 I was starting to understand where so much of my depression was coming from. So listening to Against Me! songs about dealing with the same issues and feeling was a great feeling of commiseration.
Looking back now, the songs only make more sense. Even if I didn’t know it at the time Against Me! was speaking to me about deeply personal issues, even if subconsciously.
2008
the Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride (2008)
Tumblr media
The album that introduced me to the Mountain Goats! I’m really not that cool, so I don’t really know about awesome people like John Darnielle and how he’s been writing music since I was 5. But I heared the song Heretic Pride on the indie radio station and instantly fell in love with them.
Heretic Pride is not my favorite Mountain Goats album (that would be Tallahassee) but it’s the first one I heard at 19 years old and their literary songs have made me strive to make my own writing better.
It’s also the album that I tried to show to my future partner (we started dating in 2009) to try and impress her. She, of course, was a fan already because she’s much cooler than I am. She then proceeded to show me the extensive discography of the Mountain Goats (15 albums) and the rest of the Modest Mouse catalog just for good measure.
Well, there’s my 10 Albums. There are a few more I would like to add if I could pick more than ten. Like Dumby by Portishead, De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta, and Pass The Flask by The Bled all squished in there somewhere. But I won’t cheat and have a list of 13 albums. That would be wrong...

::: Los Angeles, October 13th, 2010 :::
There are many ways to be locked down: quarantine, jail, or long trips. But being locked down with pretty much strangers has to be the worst. Or weirdest. Or more exciting, depending on how you see it.
Frank Iero walked fast. He was late. In his defense, Iero was always late. He didn’t try to make it on time today because he didn’t want to tour. But they had to. He just wanted to stay fucking home for a while. That’s precisely what he had said to the band when they saw the schedule for the following months. He was tremendously worn out. But he had to. The thing that made it all worse for him was knowing they had to get a new drummer, ‘cos Bob was out of the picture, and they didn’t have a replacement yet. They had tried a few guys out there, but they didn’t seem to get it. It wasn’t just playing the songs. It meant being part of it. Whatever that means.
They only had one more option on their list, and they were all hoping it would work, ‘cos they didn’t really have a lot of time to find someone else.
Ray was sitting on the floor in the practice studio, playing with his guitar, all alone in the place. It was early, and he knew it. Well, he was on time, but he knew everybody was always late for rehearsal.
- “Hello?”- a brown-haired woman walked in with a tall, thin guy and smiled- “I’m Joey. I’m here for the drummer audition.”
It sounded more like a question than a statement. Ray stood up and shook her hand, smiling.
- “Ray Toro, nice to meet you.”- he looked at the guy and shook his hand
- "Matthew Gray Gubler, my pleasure."
- "I’m sorry the rest of the guys aren’t here yet,"- Ray apologized as Joey looked around and sighed. She hated it when people were late.
- "Maybe we can go get a coffee"- Matthew suggested, and the young woman nodded- "I saw a place just around the corner."
- "Do you want one?"- she asked Ray
- "Yeah, sure"- he said, confused by her unexpected gesture.
- "How do you drink it?"
- "Lots of cream, lots of sugar"- Joey smiled and nodded.
- "Ok, Mr. Wolf. We’ll be right back"- Ray chuckled when he noticed she had gotten the Tarantino joke and watched her and who seemed to be her boyfriend walking out the room.
- "Are you sure you wanna do this?"- Joey frowned and looked at Matthew after he just shot the question while they walked out of the coffee shop.
- "What?"
- "Don’t get me wrong, it’s just that you don’t know any of those guys"
- "Yeah, I know, but they are a professional and major band! This could be great for my career"- he nodded and stared at his girlfriend, cupping her face with a hand and looking right into her eyes.
- "I just don’t want you to feel discouraged if you don’t make it"- he whispered.
- "Why wouldn’t I make it? You said I’m an excellent drummer, I’ve worked with many great bands, I’m good at my job!"
- "I know you are the best drummer, Yami"- Matthew quickly answered, trying to rearrange his words- "I’m just trying to say do your best, I know you are gonna be great."
He held her hands as he stood in front of her and looked into her eyes sweetly.
- "I’m just scared those guys are gonna break your heart."
- "Come on! If they don’t like me, it’s their loss."
Joey would say those things, but she was a nervous wreck inside. She wanted the band to love her. She needed the job, her career as a drummer really needed a boost, and since her last band had broken up, she only got small recording sessions and a few backup gigs with some bands. But that was it. Working with My Chemical Romance was just what she needed.
- "So, where’s the drummer?"- Gerard asked and looked around- "I hate when people are late, it’s rude! It shows you don’t care."
- "You just got twenty minutes late"- Mikey quickly said and raised an eyebrow at his brother- "So shut up."
- "Wait, he has a point"- Frank added and looked at Gerard for a second, who was walking around the practice studio playing with his hair- "We can be late, we are the band, he can’t be late, he is auditioning."
Ray was about to correct his friend when Joey and Matthew walked into the room.
- "Hi!"- she said and smiled- "Here’s your coffee"- Joey walked to Ray, and he thanked her immediately.
- "How much is it?"
- "Dude, don’t worry, it’s just coffee,"- meanwhile, Gerard, Frank, and Mikey shook Gubler’s hand.
- "Nice to meet you, Joey"- Frank said and looked at the guy in front of him, thinking he seemed familiar- "Wait, did you play a gig with Mellon Collie last week?"- Matthew frowned and shook his head, while Mikey turned to Joey and asked.
- "Can you get me a coffee too? I take it black with almond milk."
- "Make that two!"- Gerard said, raising his hand, and Joey looked at Ray, not getting what was going on.
- "So, Joey, we checked at your resume, and to be honest, it’s pretty impressive,"- Frank said and grabbed the sheet of paper from upon an amplifier- "You’ve played with some great bands, like the Distillers."
- "Thanks"- Joey said and smiled, but Frank raised an eyebrow at her, not getting why she had answered.
- "She is Joey"- Ray explained- "He is Matthew, her boyfriend."
- "Hi"- Joey waved, and the whole band looked at her astonished- "Yeah, girl drummer, I know…"
- "I’m sorry, I just… Joey didn’t sound like a girly name"- Frank apologized and cut her a short smile.
- "Don’t worry, it is not the first it happens"
Joey lied. It was the first time it happened. It was uncomfortable ‘cos it made her feel the band wasn’t expecting to audition a woman for the position. Maybe they didn’t want her. She thought her resume implied she was a girl, but apparently, it didn’t.
- "So… well, you’ve worked with amazing bands"- Frank repeated- "Why do you wanna work with us?"
- "Well, I admire your work. I think touring with you represents a significant challenge in my career. And mostly because I don’t have a job, and I really need one right now."- the band looked at Joey in silence until Mikey chuckled. At least he got the joke.
- "Tell us more about you,"- Gerard asked as he lit a cigarette and kept walking around the practice studio- "You can sit down if you want."
Joey nodded but didn’t move, she wasn’t feeling comfortable in the room, and a part of her wanted to stay on her feet and close to the door, ready to run away.
- "I’m from Seattle, so grunge was my biggest influence growing up. Ever since I was six, I wanted to be Matt Cameron or Jimmy Chamberlin… or Kim Gordon"- the young woman made a pause and sighed. She wasn’t feeling the love.
- "I studied music at Berklee after my first band experience, mainly because my dad said if I wanted to be in music, I had to have proper education."
- "Tell us about the bands you’ve worked with"- Ray asked.
- "I’ve worked with Dashboard Confessional; we did a small tour last summer. On the road, I’ve been with Julieta Venegas, she is an amazing Mexican musician."
- "You toured with Vampire Weekend"- Matthew added and looked at his girlfriend.
- "Right! When their drummer broke his arm. That was a fun tour"- Joey added and smiled- "Well anyway, in the studio I’ve recorded with Fiona Apple, Brody Dalle, Amanda Palmer, some small jazz bands I met in college, Johnny Lang… I’ve tried to work as many different musical genres as possible."
The band nodded and stayed in silence. Neither of them knew what to say.
- "So… do you wanna hear me play?"
- "Yeah! Sure"- Ray smiled at her, and Joey walked to the other room, at the other side of the glass, and say behind the drum set.
- "What did you prepare?"- Ray asked as Joey put on the headphones and nodded.
- "I have three songs for you to pick: “It’s not a fashion statement,” “Famous last words,” and “House of wolves.”
She looked at the band talking to each other as Matthew stood on a side and smiled sweetly. She knew things weren’t peachy so far, but she tried her best to get the job. She really needed it 'cos she was running out of savings, and she had no other job prospect but a few commercial jingles.
- "Wolves"- Gerard answered, and Joey nodded. Joey took a look at the drum and sighed. She was left-handed, and the drum was someone right-handed. Jo didn’t want to make a fuzz and change it, 'cos she felt the band wasn’t already into her. But at the same time, she wanted to kick ass and show them how good she was.
- "Just give me a second."
Joey stood up and rearranged the drum. Gerard looked at Ray, annoyed but making his best not to show. Mikey was stuck at his phone, barely paying attention to anything around him, and Frank stared at Matthew, trying to remember where he had seen him before.
- "Ready?"- Ray asked as Joey sat down again and tried the drum.
- "Yeah, much better, sorry for wasting your time"- Gerard looked at her, feeling she knew he was annoyed, and tried to change his bitchy face. It was too late for that anyway.
Joey started playing and just focused on the music, making her best. She had rehearsed the songs for weeks and even added a solo. She heard all the live versions she could and was sure she was doing a good job.
- "I don’t know, guys"- Gerard texted the band so Matthew would hear them.
- "I like her"- Ray answered
- "That’s your cock talking"- Frank answered and chuckled- "She ain’t bad, but I don’t know if she works for the band."
- "She sounds cool"- Mikey said out loud- "Maybe we could jam a little with her."
Frank and Gerard turned to him with widened eyes, surprised and embarrassed he had answered his comments aloud, so Matthew could hear.
- "Yeah, I saw the text, but talking is faster"- Gerard had to turn around to hide his face, red of anger against his brother, and make his best not to look at Matthew, who nodded and got the hint.
- "I’ll wait outside."
Frank stared at Mikey, who stood up and looked at Joey playing eyes wide shut, making her best to give a good impression. At least it worked with Mikey and Ray.
- "Thanks for making us look like an asshole"- Frank argued and huffed- "What was wrong with answering the fucking text?"
- "Dude, grow up…"- that’s all Mikey answered and stayed in silence until Joey finished the song.
She raised her eyes from the drumset and stared at the band, pretty scared of their reaction. Mikey and Ray smiled at her, while Gerard and Frank were serious and totally… annoyed? Bored? she couldn’t really figure it out.
- "Do you want me to play anything else?"- the young woman asked, afraid she was gonna get a cold no as an answer. Gerard was about to do it until he saw his brother walking over and grab his bass.
- "Wanna jam a little?"- Joey quickly smiled at Mikey, thinking maybe he liked her job, which was always a nice feeling, especially when trying to get a job.
- "Yeah! Sure!"
They played Destroya and improvised for a while. Ray joined them, and the three of them actually had fun for a good twenty minutes jamming.
- "That was pretty good"- Gerard said as he walked over and put on his dark glasses- "Unfortunately, we have to go."
- "Where?"- Mikey asked, surprised- "We had a clear schedule today."
- "Yeah, well, we totally forgot about an interview, and we are running late, so…"- he made a pause and looked at Joey.
- "Sure, I have to get going too, I have to reach the studio in an hour so…"- she stood up and shook Mikey and Ray’s hand- "Thank you so much for your time, I had a lot of fun with you."
- "Thank you for coming!"- Ray quickly answered- "I’ll walk you to the door."
- "Don’t worry, it’s just there anyway"- Joey smiled and turned to the other two guys- "Sorry for taking so much of your time. I hope you have a good day"- she shook their hands too, and they nodded with a sympathetic smile.
- "You too"- Gerard whispered.
- "And the answer is Criminal Minds"- Joey said and smiled at Frank, who looked dumbstruck- "See ya!"
And the young woman walked out.
- "Fuck! that’s it!"- Frank grumbled, and no one got why- "That’s where I’ve seen that guy."
- "What?"- Gerard asked him
- "Her boyfriend is on that tv show"- but it seemed it didn’t matter to Gerard one tiny bit.
- "Oh… who cares anyway…"- Mikey turned to his brother and punched his arm.
- "Did you have to be so annoying?"
- "I wasn’t annoying!"- Gerard nearly yelled, feeling insulted.
- "Dude! you were rude at her! and she did nothing to you!"- his brother was about to his him a lecture, but it seemed it was going to be useless, Gerard wasn’t even listening.
- "Oh! Come on! I wasn’t!"
- "Yeah, you were,"- Ray added and teamed up with Mikey- "You were a bitch, and she noticed."
- "So what?"
- "What if she felt bad about it? or what if she is pissed with us?"
- "If she is pissed, she is pissed! do you care?"
- "Why are you so mean? she was great!"- Mikey was surprised by his brother's attitude.
- "Yeah, she was good, but are you actually considering having a female drummer?"- Ray and Mikey looked at him in shock.
- "What the fuck is your problem with her being a girl?"
- "I don’t have a problem if she is a girl, a boy, or a cat. I’m just saying she is not the right choice for this band."
Ray and Mikey kept looking at him, confused. He had never been such an ass before
- "Come on, Frank, back me up here!"
- "I agree"- Iero simply said- "She was a good drummer, but… what are we gonna do with a chick on tour?"- Ray couldn’t believe his own ears.
- "Seriously? she was awesome! Perfect timing, great improvisation, and she had the ear to follow every single fucking curveball we threw her."
Gerard knew Ray was right, he heard it too, but he just didn’t want to work with Joey. Why? he didn’t know. He just looked at her and thought she couldn’t be on a bus with them, or on stage with them, or anywhere with them. As simple as that.
- "My vote is no"- he sentenced.
- "She is the best we’ve had"- Mikey argued right away- "And I’m saying yes."
- "Nope, I’m with Gerard"- Frankie claimed- "I just don’t want her in the band."
- "You fucking assholes, I’m saying yes, and it’s a tie!"- Ray felt he was five years old, calling that conversation “a tie” and arguing under those stupid terms with his friends.
- "Great! so that means no!"- of course, Gerard’s childish answer made him feel a little better about himself.
- "Seriously? What the fuck is your problem with her?"
Mikey asked his brother and stood right in front of him, just to push him to answer with the truth.
- "You said you wanted to make a fantastic show. You said you wanted to do something no one could ever expect from us, so we made this album that we love after years in the studio. It’s completely different than anything we’ve made! Do you know what would also be something no one could ever expect? having this amazing female drummer!"
- "But why her?"
- "‘Cos she is the best we’ve seen!"- Ray stepped into the conversation, trying to make some sense from Gerard and Frank.
- "Dude… I don’t know"- Iero whispered- "She was good, but… wouldn’t it be weird to have a girl on the bus with us?"
- "That’s what keeps you from saying yes?!"- Ray was honestly shocked- "Because you won’t be able to fart and walk about in your underwear?"
- "I wasn’t planning to stop any of that…"
- "Then?"
- "I don’t wanna have problems with my wife!"- Frank finally assumed and sighed- "I’ve had enough of that shit already"- the band stared at him in silence. Mikey was the only one who spoke his mind.
- "Wuss."
Matthew walked in silence, holding Joey’s hand until they reached his car. She sighed and sat at the passenger seat, thinking she didn’t want to call her parents and ask for another loan. The last time she had sworn to herself, it was never gonna happen again.
- "If they don’t hire you, it’s their loss"- Gubler finally whispered and looked at his girlfriend with a sweet glance- "You are awesome, and everybody knows it"- Joey sighed and cut him a short smile.
- "Thanks, Akumu."
- "And besides, they were assholes."
- "I know!!"- Joey waved her arms, absolutely upset- "That’s so disappointing 'cos everybody said they were so nice!"
- "Are you gonna call Tucker?"
- "I don’t know"- the young woman whispered and sighed- "He was so excited, and I don’t wanna disappoint him"
- "You did your best, Yami… maybe they didn’t want to work with a female drummer"- Joey thought about it for a moment and nodded.
- "Could be. I did my best anyway. Maybe they were all having a crappy day. Anyway, can you drive me to the studio, please? pretty, pretty, please?"- Matthew laughed and stared at his girlfriend with a warm look in his eyes.
- "Only if you kiss me first"
- "That’s blackmailing"
- "Maybe, but I’m driving, I make the rules"
- "Damn… fine! but just ‘cos I’m late"
Joey giggled and leaned in to kiss Matthew, who caressed her cheek slowly.
- "It’s gonna be ok, I promise"- he whispered, trying to comfort his girlfriend, and she nodded. She knew he was nice to her, but she still felt her life was totally out of focus.
- "Hello?"- Joey picked up her phone as she walked out of the studio after recording for the day. She was working in a small studio recording jingles. It wasn’t much, but at least she wasn’t selling drugs to survive.
- "How was it?"
- "Tucker, hey…"
- "So? When do you start? did they love you? of course, they did!"
- "Yeah… well…"
Joey didn’t want to tell his friend and break his heart. Tucker was so excited Joey was auditioning for My Chem ‘cos he knew the band for years. And though he had offered Joey to introduce her first, she refused, decided to audition under her own terms. Which sucked.
- "What?"
- "I don’t think they liked me"
- "What are you talking about? you are fantastic!"
- "You know it, I know it, but I don’t think they got it…"
- "What did they say?"
- "Nothing really, just… ok, just don’t tell them I said this, ok?"
- "Cross my heart and all that shit, what happened?"- Joey rested her back against the wall and sighed.
- "Gerard had a bitch face the whole time like he hated the guts out of me, and I don’t know why! then Frank wouldn’t even look at me, nothing, he wasn’t there, so I’m guessing neither of them wanted a female drummer, 'cos they all thought I was a guy."
- "Why?"
- "Apparently, Joey is a guy’s name"
- "So you didn’t put your real name in the application? brilliant!"
- "What for? So they can’t spell it? Anyway, can you imagine Mikey thought I was an assistant or whatever and asked me to go get him a coffee when we got there? They thought Matthew was auditioning and ignored me the whole time!"
- "Shit can’t be right! they are not like that"
- "Well, in the end, Ray and Mikey were the nicest. We jammed and had fun for a while, playing a few of their songs. But neither Gerard nor Frank even looked at us. It felt they hated me."
- "Maybe they were having a bad day, but they are very nice people."
- "Maybe… anyway… thank you for your support."
- "What are best friends for?"
- "Getting beer?"
- "Right, when are we getting beer?"- Joey smiled and sighed.
- "Next time I’m in New York or when you come to this shitty city."
- "If you hate Los Angeles so much, why don’t you move?"
- "‘Cos I’ve got my life here, I guess."
- "You know it’s just ‘cos you are dating that nerd
- "I happen to love that nerd!"- Joey laughed and shook her head, thinking Tucker didn’t even know Gubler and he already knew he was a nerd- "Anyway, gotta go, I have a class in an hour."
- "Are you taking a class?"
- "No, dude, I’m teaching in a community center in Santa Monica."
- "Aren’t you lovely! I’m proud of you!"
- "Shut up!"
- "As long as you don’t teach them to drink as we did when we toured together."
- "Hey! I’m no longer 20!"- Joey argued, laughing- "I’m a role model for those kids now!"
- "Yeah, sure! Talk to you later!"
Tucker hung down the phone and walked around his house for a minute. He loved that kid. He met her when she was still in college and toured with Thursday for a few dates with her old band. She was like a little sister to him. And it hurt to think she was wasting her talent in shitty sessions with shitty bands when she could be doing something better with her skills. Something meaningful. And it honestly made him angry to think his friends had been mean to her.
- "Hey, dude!"- Gerard picked up the phone, excited to see Tucker’s name on the screen.
- "Hey! why were you an asshole today?"- Gerard frowned and took out his sunglasses. He was in his backyard smoking, and he was not getting what his friend was talking about
- "Sorry, what?"
- "You were an asshole today with my friend"
- "Dude, I’m gonna need more information"
- "I asked Joey to audition for your band because I thought you would value her talent, and you ignored her?"
- "I didn’t ignore her… wait!"- Gerard wasn’t getting what was going on- "You know her?"
- "Of course! for the last… shit, I don’t know, like five or six years, we toured together, I taught her a lot, she is like my little sister!"
- "Yeah, she is an excellent drummer, but… I don’t feel she is suitable for the band."
- "Why?"
- "‘Cos… she has tits"- Gerard whispered, and Tucker made one long eternal pause.
- "Wow… ok, I see why she said you were an asshole."
- "She did?!"- Gerard felt so insulted he clenched his fist.
- "And she wasn’t wrong. I’m so sorry I asked her to go to your audition. It was a waste of her time."
Tucker hung down the phone and dialed Frank. He knew he had been pretty hard on Gerard, so he made his way to stay calm and not yell, at least not right away.
- "Ho, man!"
- "Hey Frank, listen, my friend, Joey was today auditioning for your drummer position. How was that?"
- "Joey? The girl? Do you know her?"
- "Yeah, I set the audition for her, actually. She is one of my closest friends, so how was it?"
Frank looked around at Ray smoking next to him in a small bar, then took a sip of his beer and decided the best thing to do was clear: lying.
- "She was awesome. Too bad the position is already taken 'cos she was real good"
- "I see, and that’s why you acted like an asshole?"
- "I didn’t!"- Frank knew he was busted
- "Dude, she told me everything. You didn’t even look at her!"
Ray’s phone hummed, and he read the text Gerard had sent them: “The chick is friends with Tucker. She sold us.” Toro chuckled and looked at Frank red in anger, trying to explain to his friend why he had been mean.
- “Too little too late”- Ray typed and sent the text. Mikey read them and chuckled while he ate a bowl of cereal and milk back in his house.
- "They deserve it for being assholes"- he said out loud and sighed.
He looked around at his home and realized he was talking all alone. His wife wasn’t around. His wife was never around anymore. But that was something Mikey didn’t want to think about, not then, not never.
- "Can you believe that bitch?"- Frank turned to Ray as soon as he hung down with Tucker- "She called our friend to snitch on us."
- "Well, you kinda deserved it"- Ray simply answered and sipped his beer- "You and Gerard should apologize to her."
- "No way, can we just let it pass?"- Iero was honestly upset as he lit another cigarette and remained in silence for a moment- "She was excellent, I give you that, but I don’t fucking want a girl in the band right now"
- "To avoid arguing with Jamia?"
- "Yeah! Shit has been hard lately, and I don’t want her to be threatened by anyone anymore"- Ray looked at his friend, nodding.
- "We should all talk about this seriously, we only got a week before the first show, and we have to rehearsal with the new drummer."
- "I know"- their cell phone hummed again, and they all read the exact text.
- "Meeting in my house now"- Gerard sighed as soon as he read his brother’s text. He surely knew what it was all about, and he had no intention to continue that argument, though he had absolutely no choice.
- "I hope Mikey at least asks for pizza"- he stood up and walked inside the house- "Honey, I’m going to Mikey’s"- he announced as he walked into his wife art studio and found her working on a collage on her desk
- "Say hello to your brother from me, hey! can you pick something for dinner?"
- "Sure, I’ll see you later"- he kissed her lips and cut her a short smile
- "Wait, turn around"- she asked, and he slowly moved over- "What happened?"
- "Nothing"- Lynz raised an eyebrow and waited for the honest answer- "We just had a bad audition for a drummer this morning. It turns out she was friends with Tucker Rule, and he called me an asshole for being mean to her."
- "Were you mean to her?"- Gerard made a long pause and stared at his wife’s expression change- "Why did you do that?"
- "I don’t know! I just didn’t like her!"
- "Was she right?"
- "Yeah"
- "Was she nice?"
- "Yes"
- "Was she hot?"
- "No! definitely not!"
- "Then what was the problem?"
- "She is the best we’ve had so far, but I don’t wanna turn everything we’ve been working on into “they are working with a girl” and get the attention away from the music."- Lynz nodded as she listened to her husband’s words.
- "You are making it seem like no one had ever had a female drummer or musician on stage before."
- "No, it’s not that, it’s just that…"- Gerard thought his answer carefully- "We haven’t, and we are so deep into the spot I’m afraid it will impact our show the wrong way"- Lynz made a pause and stared at her husband’s face
- "What did the band say?"
- "Frank is with me, and Ray and Mikey disagree."
- "Why is Frank with you?"
- "‘Cos he thinks having a girl on the bus is weird."
- "I was the girl in a band, and it wasn’t weird at all!"
Gerard knew that would be the subject in the conversation eventually as soon as he started talking about this with his wife.
- "I think you are acting kinda selfish and a little sexist."
- "No, we are just trying to do what’s best for the band."
- "Do whatever you want. I’m just giving you my opinion."
Gee felt Lynz was judging him. And he knew he would never win that fight.
- "I’m gonna talk about it with the band"
- "Ok, see you for dinner"- Gerard kissed his wife again and walked away feeling like a douche.
Had he been an asshole with that girl?
And besides, Gerard had lied to his wife when she asked if the girl was hot, ‘cos he actually thought so. He would never admit it in front of her anyway. And neither in front of anyone else. Never.
Matthew waited for Joey outside the community center, where she taught drums for kids in need as a way to keep them from being in the street and teaching him a new skill. He thought that was amazing and felt pretty proud of his girlfriend for giving the community her time and knowledge. He waved at her as she walked outside and cut her a big smile.
- "Hey! I didn’t know you were picking me up today!"
- "I wanted to surprise you and cheer you up!"- Joey leaned over and kissed Matthew sweetly.
- "Thank you so, so much!"
- "I’m the best boyfriend. I know."
- "What’s the plan?"
- "Wanna ask for Chinese and watch a movie at my place?"- it was a bit disappointing plan ‘cos that was pretty much every day in their routine, but Joey smiled and nodded.
- "As long as I pick the horror movie tonight, sounds perfect."
After a few minutes of driving, Matthew turned to his girlfriend and whispered.
- "I forgot tomorrow we’ll have table reading. We are gonna start shooting this week. I’m sorry I won’t be able to hang out so often."
- "Don’t worry, you have to work, and I need to get a new extra job ‘cos it’s obvious and I didn’t get the MCR shit…"- her cell phone interrupted her as she spoke. An unlisted number was calling- "Hello?"
- "Joey… Svein… björn...dottir?"
- "Yes?"- her last name was mispronounced entirely, but she was pretty used to that.
- "Hi, I’m Ray Toro, from My Chemical Romance."
- "Hey, Ray! How are you?"- Gubler wide opened his eyes as he turned to his girl for a second. She was honestly surprised the band was calling her.
- "Good! listen… I hope I’m not interrupting."
- "Not, it’s cool"- Gerard turned around and walked the other way just ‘cos he didn’t want to see Ray do what he was about to do.
- "Great, the band and I were talking, and we want you to come to the studio tomorrow to do a second tryout… do they even call it “tryouts”? more like an audition, I think."- Ray started rambling as Joey wide opened her eyes in shock.
- "Sorry, what? do you want me there again?"
- "Yeah, so we can jam a little, try a few new things. We are having trouble deciding on one drummer, so we need a bit more info. Besides, we couldn’t finish today so… can you come tomorrow at ten?"
- "Noon"- Frank said, thinking he didn’t feel like waking up early to meet that chick.
- "Sorry, at noon"- Ray corrected, embarrassed.
- "Noon…"- Joey had absolutely nothing to do at noon, but she wanted to make believe she had a life- "I think I can move a few things… to meet you."
- "Awesome! See you tomorrow"- Joey turned to Matthew as soon as she hung down and nearly screamed.
- "They want to see me again!!! I can’t believe it"- the young woman jumped on the seat completely excited- "I thought they hated…"- but suddenly, it hit her.
- "Congrats, Yami!!"- Matthew yelled and grabbed her knee, which was all he could do, considering he was driving.
- "No, it wasn’t me. It was Tucker."
- "Did you call him?"
- "He called. I didn’t want to tell him about the shitshow I was through this morning"- Joey grabbed her phone again and looked for the last number that called.
- "What are you doing?"
- "I’m canceling. I’m not gonna go if they are only doing this ‘cos my friend forced them."
- "What?! no! just go and kick their asses!"- Matthew quickly grabbed the phone from Joey’s and hid it in his pocket, far from her reach- "You are going tomorrow, and you are proving them wrong."
- "I don’t want to! Akumu! Come on! it’s gonna be embarrassing and awkward to see them knowing Tucker called them to get me a second chance!"
- "No! It’s gonna be awesome ‘cos you are gonna kick ass!!"
Joey whined for another while, honestly trying to get out of that awkward situation. But by the time they reached Matthew’s, he had convinced her she had to do it.

hey i don't know if there's many fics like this, but i'm an absolute sucker for that friends-to-lovers trope and i was wondering if you could suggest any. i remember especially liking one called "sweatshirt serenade" by nsfwfrerardx on ao3 (i think), and i'd like to know if there were more of that out there. don't really care about explicit or the length.
Hi Nonny!
There's tons of friends to lovers fic out there! A lot of the more canon compliant mcr fic probably has this trope, actually.I hope you find something you like on this list!
Friends to Lovers
Sweatshirt Serenade by nsfwfrerardx, Frank/Gerard, 15k, Explicit. Frank has a crush on his best friend's older brother. Said brother takes his virginity. Basically smut!
Release the Bats by Sena, Ray/Mikey, 10k, Mature. Sure, Mikey's a vampire, but Ray's okay with that. He's still Mikey, after all, still Ray's friend, still dorky and sweet and funny and amazing and, yeah. Maybe Ray likes him as more than just a friend.
Kiss it Better by Sena, Frank/Mikey, 8k, Explicit. Mikey's not a violent guy, but Frank makes him want to punch a fucking wall.
Heart Wrapped in Clover by Sena, Frank/Mikey, 19k, Explicit.
Won't Know 'til You Begin by knight_tracer, Sena, Frank/Mikey, 24k, Explicit.
All That Shit Seems To Disappear When I'm With You by gala_apples, Frank/Patrick/Mikey/Pete, 26k, Explicit. Frank’s been attracted to Mikey for awhile, a feeling that he’s kept carefully to himself. Other people don’t have the same compulsion for secrecy. On the first day of school there’s a short angry boy standing at Frank’s locker, condemning him for making Pete’s life hard. September quickly turns into a month of bad decision making as Frank, Pete, and Patrick deal with Mikey not feeling the same way they do. Except, that’s not true. After all, none of them have actually asked Mikey his side of things.
Sing the Revolution by turps, Frank/Gerard/Mikey, 19k, Mature. A high school AU about brothers, best friends, boyfriends, and a lot of cross-dressing.
You Only Hear the Music When Your Heart Begins to Break by Solarcat, Frank/Gerard, 14k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank has high school figured out. His mom has given up arguing about the amount of time he spends in Gerard's basement, and he doesn't actually care if people think it's weird that he and Gerard hold hands in the hallways and go to the bathroom together. The only thing Frank cares about is figuring out why Gerard's suddenly avoiding him -- because what's the point of losing your virginity on Prom Night if you can't tell your best friend about it in the morning?
With Words I Thought I'd Never Speak by brynnmck, Frank/Gerard, Lindsey/Gerard, 11k, Explicit. It's like being with Lindsey has switched on some sort of current inside him, and when he gets up onstage it comes crackling out, lighting him up, sparking off the sweaty upturned glowing faces of all the kids out in the audience, and he couldn't shut it off if he tried. And Frankie is, well, Frankie, only turned up to eleven, somehow, flailing all over the place like a downed power line, leaving a trail of blissed-out destruction in his wake. And his face in Gerard's crotch.
Black Market Blood by autoschediastic, Frank/Gerard, 17k, Explicit. Frank's so fucking freaky he's potentially wigging out a fucking vampire.
see your moves by morphosyntactic, Frank/Mikey, 1k, Explicit. The thing is, Frank has been waiting a long ass time to get in Mikey’s pants.
Buzzed by synonomy, Frank/Gerard, 6k, Mature. "You should," Frank gets out between snorts, "you should cut your hair." "What?" Gerard wheezes. "No, it's just - it's all stuck up." Frank shuffles forwards on his knees and then his hands are in Gerard's hair. Gerard's laughter dies down abruptly. Frank's fingers are surprisingly gentle on his scalp, ruffling it up, carding through it. "We'd probably have to wash it first, though," he says thoughtfully.

Between the Wish and the Thing by ciel_vert, fleurdeliser, Frank/Gerard, 24k, Explicit. Gerard has been in love with his best friend and bandmate for years. It sucks. Especially because he's convinced himself that Frank does not feel the same. But a series of events including a long overdue break from touring, gastroenterology specialists, a new puppy and a visit from a know-it-all brother and his smart-as-hell wife, make Gerard question his assumptions.

straight up by Trojie, Ray/Gerard, 26k, Explicit. Ray will one day blame years of the kind of friendship that involves one person opening the other person up to a host of new, exciting life experiences they wouldn't otherwise have got, and the second person in return spending a lot of time hovering in the ED trying to remember the street names of colourful pills, for what happens after he walks in on Gerard in their hotel room.
I'm Not Sleeping (Trust Me) by Dira Sudis (dsudis), Frank/Gerard, 12k, Explicit. They didn't get any sleep while they were making the "I'm Not Okay" video.
