Here's what I'll say about Siuan for right now, since their are still a lot of unknowns floating in the air: I think her actions in this episode are largely in accord with her book characterization no matter which way the show breaks on certain details.

Siuan's central character flaw in the books, the thing that largely leads to her downfall, is her default response to most problems being to exert raw force and control. It was how she handled the Hall of the Tower which allowed opposition to coalesces around Eladia and Alviarain, it was how she handled Gawyn creating a resentment in him that would drive him to side against her during the coup, and how she forced Min to remain in the Tower against Min's wishes which was the catalyst for Eladia realizing she could strike against Siuan at all.

And it's what Siuan does in this episode when confronted with a problem she does not have another way to deal with. Moiraine is with holding information from her? Go to Cairhien herself and seize the tiller of events with her own hands. Rand is running wild, derelict in his duty? Take him captive and bring him to the Tower where at least he will be under her eye and safe from the Forsaken. Moiraine is attempting to abscond with him as a result? Cut off her avenue of escape by any means necessary, even if it means damaging her personal relationship with Moiraine, possibly forever.

And that's the other thing to keep in mind: Siuan, like Moiraine, fundamentally does not trust anyone except her partner in conspiracy. She can't. For twenty years she's been on a quest that will lead to her stilling and execution if it is ever discovered. She and Moiraine are each other's confidants and allies, their deepest and most important loves. But even in the books Moiraine is withholding information from Siuan out of a sense of greater good. The difference is that in the show Siuan becomes aware of it in the show and of course she begins to doubt and loose trust in Moiraine as a result.

In her mind she has gone almost at once from being a partner, one half of a team that trusted in and depended on each other, to being on her own against the storm. If Moiraine didn't tell her about being stilled, what else might she be holding back? And if she is stilled, then realistically, how much good can she do for their cause now? How can she keep Rand safe from himself and the Forsaken, prepare him for what's coming, when she might not live another year? And that agony- that pain that the person she trusts and loves most didn't just betray that trust but also might not be around long enough for Siuan to be mad even be mad at her- has to be put aside because the mission, the duty, is everything to Siuan, just like with Moiraine. The stakes are too high for anything else.

So she falls back on the safety net of the Tower's traditions and secret plans. Take Rand to the Tower, keep him safe, prepare him for what's coming and trust to the Light for the rest. Take away his agency for his own good and the good of the world (something it should be noted she's wistful for the ability to do in TSR when she wishes she could keep hiim from a learning a word of the Prophecies, which is the same scene where she outright admits to Min she intends to try and control him in), and bring him firmly under her thumb. And what does Moiraine do? Enlist the aid of one of the Forsaken to break Rand free and flee to Falme through a Waygate, which is at best an INSANELY risky and potentially very stupid play, and at worst tacit confirmation of her worst fear, that Moiraine has gone over to the Shadow, and everything is on the brink of being lost.

And where does that leave Siuan? Isolated and alone and with no other fallback by her same response: to keep exerting raw force, to pressing the spring down until it snaps.

My wheel (Blithe) is still in a state of disrepair and I can't find anyone near enough to drive him into a doctor :(

There are a couple maladies that I just need another person more knowledgeable than myself to diagnose and most likely in person so I'm Big Sad.

I'm currently now looking for a 'new' but in better condition spinning wheel for active use.

If anyone in Southern Ontario, Canada has a wheel for sale or the contact info for a good Wheel Doctor in the area then I would be eternally grateful.

If you don't have any info, just sharing this post around would be a huge boon

The guys who fixed Blithe with this prosthetic spoke didn't actually affix it properly and just kinda...wedged it in place without glue or a wooden nail and it shows now.

The spoke will slide out of place and the fill they did to the crack is itself cracking.

The wheel has a wobble to it 😭

Citroën Traction Avant Big 15 11CV, 1954. On display at Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill, New Zealand. Bill's son Harold was a Citroën enthusiast and was given this car, unrestored, for his 15th birthday (you can get a driver's license from age 15 in New Zealand). He restored the car himself and owned it until he was tragically killed in a car accident, aged 29, in 1995. The Traction Avant was the first car to combine unitary construction with front wheel drive when it was introduced in 1934. It was replaced by the DS in 1955.

The spinning wheel distribution system finally decided it was my turn! This beauty was left on the side of the road just a block away from my house and though she needs some loving to get back up and running she's in pretty good shape though I'll have a better idea of what I'm working with when I take her apart this weekend. From what I can see so far she needs to be taken apart and sanded down to remove the peeling and flaking laquer, her metal hardware needs the rust removed and she needs a new drive band, tension knob, bobbins and scotch tension. The treadle works and the drive wheel spins nice and quiet, there's no serious structural issues I can see, simply minor cosmetic damage that'll sand right out but again, I'll know more when I take her apart.

JDM J's Racing "Mugen" steering wheel emblem. Fit perfectly, looks great and -$20. Just need to leather wrap the wheel now and probably glue this emblem in place. Looking better every day! 🍻

Did some wheel maintenance today, remains to be seen if I'll get my daily TdF spin in.

This wheel has some quirks that while she can spin, it's kind of annoying. Main thing was the back leather bearing (what I'm holding in the picture). It was a replacement for the original I got with the wheel, but the leather's too flimsy, so I'm trying just a leather cord that's tied into place. Fingers crossed it'll make things smoother until I can get a new, stronger leather bearing made.

Also tried some Howard's Feed & Wax on the wooden tensioning screw & the base of the mother of all. The whole wheel's covered in a substance that the Howard's doesn't penetrate (considering if it'd be worth it to strip & refinish it) but the areas of exposed wood are VERY dry. Feeding it in those spots did wonders. The tension's always been sticky and creaky, but now it's smooth and totally silent. Awesome for now, but I've heard paraffin wax suggested for wood-on-wood parts of antique wheels and want to give that a shot for long term protection.

First Major Downpour of Monsoon Season

We recharged the medicine wheels and worked with the chembuster today to encourage the 20% chance of rain to become 100%. The sky started completely clear this morning, with no DOR pushback against the OR conditions and incoming storm. We only observed one very slow moving flight with no trail.

In the morning a few OR clouds began to develop, moving up from the south, an indication of tropical moisture and the monsoonal pattern. After working with the chembuster and recharging the quartz medicine wheels with water, we began to have some drops of rain in the afternoon. This was the OR splatter that precedes a storm. Thunder could be heard to the southeast.

At around 3:50 steady rain started, becoming very heavy. We had a strong rain for a half hour, which then tapered off. A flash flood advisory remains in effect for Kern County this evening. This storm was downplayed in the forecast, but came on much stronger than the models could predict, because geo-restoration has increased the strength and reach of the monsoon.

The forecast quickly changed when the rain became inevitable.

Sooner than later, I need to find a way of fixing this pre-existing split in Blithe's wheel

I figured he needs a wedge of wood in there and some filler of some sort and then a bit of sanding but I am not exactly sure how to go about this next stage.

Maybe a metal bandaid to secure the fix? I would prefer to keep him as natural as possible but if my boy needs bionics then we will do what we must 😤

Another day, another customer. Except the order's not pushed through online, but rather in person. Here, in the sweltering pit of his forage. Got a lot of guts to come here directly. The few employees that tolerate him are sure to be unshakably discreet — so what gives? Only means the location was given by someone within 0, or they picked up enough hints through criminally charged grapevines. Either way, he's hardly overjoyed about the drop in.

"You here to get shit fixed or made?" He's crass about it, leaves no room for idle chitchat — on his side.
