Taiju and Yuzuriha have loved each other for 3,705 years and Tajiu's desire to tell Yuzuriha kept him conscious for the entire time he was petrified
Senku trusted without a doubt that Taiju was still alive and that he would be conscious enough to break through the stone without Revival Fluid, with no evidence to back it up
Yuzuriha used to pay attention to all of Senku's science lectures and he turned the science flag she made him into the symbol for the Kingdom of Science
Chrome literally spent his entire life rediscovering science and beat the second strongest warrior in the village to try and heal Ruri
Even while leading opposite sides of a war and trying to kill each other, Tsukasa and Senku considered each other best friends and they know each other so well they can predict the other's behavior
Gen, even before he'd met or decided to side with him, had already grown an incredible fondness for Senku and went so far as to condemn his soul to hell (his own words) to further his goals
Kohaku had complete trust in Senku immediately, despite never having heard of half of the things he talked about past the negative association with sorcery and is one of the only people to notice how much he actually misses his dad

Martyn is definitely too proud to admit that he froze when he caught sight of fiery red hair.
Or when piercing green eyes looked right through him.
Or when he heard a sharp comment that wasn't even directed at him.
To his defense (of nothing, because he didn't freeze), he had never encountered Cleo in a world like this before. One that isn't life-or-deathgame related, that is to say.
When they walked into the tavern of the Faction Isles, he briefly thought she had figured out inter-world travel just to kill him. Which, sue him, is a very real threat actually.
Lucky for him, Cleo didn't seem to recognize him at all. In fact, from what he gathered, they had been at the Isles for years. So nothing the matter. It made sense that there were more Cleo's out there, of course. He has met plenty of his friends in different worlds. This is nothing out of the ordinary. Just a Cleo, not his vengeful soulmate, who doesn't recognize him. At all.
All is well, Martyn can put all his attention on his mission and not think about Cleo anymore.
-•-
Later, when Martyn's alone on his ship, laying on the deck and looking at the stars, he allows himself to think about it.
This Cleo doesn't know, doesn't remember their complicated history. When they look at him, they don't see their failed soulmate. She isn't worn down by memories, and he can pretend like he's just a normal prick. It's painfully easy to poke and jab at each other. To pretend they don't like each other but just as quickly turn it around on an unsuspecting third party, working together like they share a mind.
Maybe this is what it would have been like, if they had been proper soulmates. Or somewhat like it, at least. He still doesn't know what it's like to be on the receiving end of her undying loyalty.
This is probably as close as he'll ever get.
-•-
"You're a coward, Martyn."
Being magically frozen in place has nothing on the way Cleo's words hit him.
"You always have been a coward and you always will be a coward."
He thought he did everything right this time. Or, well, at least concerning her. And even if, it doesn't make sense. There's no history with this Cleo, there's no reason-- this isn't--
This can't be his Cleo.
They didn't recognize him. No snarky comments about abandonment. No jokes about his terrible math. Nothing to suggest any connection. She even complimented his looks.
It can't be.
And yet. Coward. She looks straight at him.
He swears he can feel a string tug at his heart.
But the world moves on. The pirates are shouting and moving and preparing for a fight and Martyn, Martyn has a mission to complete here. He has no time for thinking or for silly feelings. He needs to go. Right now.
So he reminds himself to breathe and takes off in the chaos of the battle that erupted while he pulled himself together.
-•-
Just before he steps through the portal, Martyn hesitates. If they are his Cleo...
Will they ever forgive him for leaving again?

been brainrotting over ranch duo (i think that’s their name???? right??) recently. so here. have some headcanons:
- jimmy takes care of the cows while tango takes care of the chickens. The calves love jimmy and often flock to him and often will just sit on him, trapping him in place until tango rescues him (because jimmy’s not going to shove them off)
- jimmy’s canary wings only come in after his first death (aka where he’s one of the first to die), and that’s gonna hurt, so not only do they both have to deal with the pain of the explosion, they have to deal with the pain of that a little bit later too
- none of their friends are actually sure whether they’re together-together or not, because they’re physically affectionate with each other and jimmy’s called tango his husband several times already?? but they also act confused when people ask if they’re dating
- they’re such a good duo because tango always asks for jimmy’s input on schemes etc. because he values his input and doesn’t just immediately brush him off and that’s all it took for jimmy
- they only have one bed in their base because they don’t have the resources for any more, which means they end up sharing. which works out really, because jimmy runs warm and tango can’t regulate his own body temperature (i hc him as some kind of netherborn, and to me it makes sense that they’d rely on the nether’s heat to keep them warm) and he’s always cold, even after jimmy got him a blanket

Do you ever think about how the Ra*bits juniors were only desperate enough to beg Nazuna to join because they absolutely REFUSED to join a pre-existing unit that wouldn't have all three of them?
Tomoya and Hajime had decided on becoming idols together in middle school and stubbornly stuck with it, but they had known Mitsuru for like a few weeks at most and were already so attached to him that the thought of joining a unit without him or each other was utterly inconceivable to them.
They all loved each other so much from the beginning, and among all the manipulation, reluctance, and fear permeating the other units of early ! era, they still had the courage to say "You take all of us, or none of us". And it paid off with a loving nii-chan who found his place, songs full of hope and smiles to heal the broken, and one of the most genuine, heartwarming relationships in all of enstars.
