Spitfire: - I have five different designs for her i rotate through depending on how im feeling, so i went for the one that would best fit for this au - In canon shes one of the younger members of palinquin (in my hcs she is the youngest) and pretty timid, so plays more of a support role, in this shes a more a frontline fighter, so natrually, more scars - ^ and i like the idea of her getting burnt by her own powers (not canonly fireproof and all) - many thoughts about her you have no idea - having more of a spine is a good thing, but it is also causing her so much stress - went for a more assymetrical design partly for the lack of resources due to her not ending up taking any teams offer, parlty bc i thought it looked fuckin sick - very curious as to why she turned down faultline - was homeless (i belive this for a number of reasons), her and Apsis are crashing in some abandoned basement somewhere Morrigan: - I dont really have much to say, i am so hyped to watch her be rescued from her original narrative and i want to make art for it - n0brainjustvibes prowler!sophia design is so good it rewrote my brain entirely, shes ourple now - your (nonplatonicsubtexts) description for her costume was so vivid i just picked it up and threw it at the drawing software

Apsis: - Shes kinda just free real estate to do whatever with so this will be mostly hc's - Also havent given her a full costume design bc i am waiting for a more solid vibe if that makes sense - Mixed south asian/white (in the above art, at least) - May i suggest the name lila/leela - Whilst Emily and Sophia are roughly 15, shes more 18/19, and that age gap might contribute more to the gap she has with the other two - Fell out with the Merchants a while back due to petty drama and managed to avoid their aquisition into the Syndicate - Has a bit of a substance problem from that, but wont really recive any support due to the whole 'tramatised homeless young adult whos primary job is kicking the shit out of white nationalists' thing, so thems the breaks i guess - Shes just chillin

Check out this little dude. This is a whirligig beetle!

They get their name (i think) from the way they love to rapidly swim around in circles. They're a common sight on the shores of any freshwater pond or lake in the Summer.

Their sleek, streamlined design serves a similar purpose as in diving beetles - to make them hydrodynamic (faster in the water). And they are quite fast swimmers! You'd be hard pressed to catch one without a net.

Here's a couple of them swimming! Look at that stroke! Little Olympic contenders! They even have a little "paddle" on their rear that helps them push through the water!

Their speed is mostly for evading predators. Their food sources aren't very fast - consisting mostly of water mites, snails, and small insect larvae. These guys, like dragonfly nymphs, help cut down on mosquito larvae, making them very beneficial!

But above all, I think the coolest thing about whirligig beetles is this:

Look closely - these beetles have FOUR EYES. Now, having more than 2 eyes is actually pretty common in the insect world. Many have 3 or more eyes. However, these "extra" eyes are usually small ocelli, or "simple eyes" that can't do much besides sensing the relative light level throughout the day.

Whirligig beetles have 4, real-deal, massive compound eyes that give them excellent vision. But why 4? It has to do with the fact that whirligigs swim on the exact surface of the water! Two of their eyes look above for predators, while the two on the bottom search for prey (and for other predators)!

This amazing adaptation is similar to the four-eyed fish. It only has 2 eyes, but each one has two pupils, giving it the same ability as the whirligig beetle!

Next time you're near a freshwater shore, look for these cool little swimmers. The beetles themselves might be a little tough to spot, but the swirling of water and subsequent ripples they make will make it obvious when they're around.

Some facts about my other ttte OC Whirligig

-he’s a class A shay locomotive built from the Lima locomotive works in Ohio.

-Whirligig was bounced around a lot at first, first he worked at a mine in West Virginia, then he was sent to Maine for logging, then to Vermont for more logging work, then back to Ohio for more industrial work, then finally to Pennsylvania where he worked as a logging locomotive for a good solid seven years before being purchased by the West Mountain and Prairie Railroad to work on the Dead horse branchline.

-Whirligig is a “oh you chopped your hand off? Well just rub some dirt on it and walk it off” type character. He takes on whatever is thrown at him and sees hard tasks as a way to build character.

-Whirligig is also a spit fire at times, especially when his beliefs are challenged. he’s very old fashioned and set in his ways, in his mind, it’s always “that’s how we’ve done things here for years, and it will always be done that way.” He’s an old dog that you can’t teach new tricks.

-he’s surprisingly well versed in politics for an engine, probably because his engineer often reads the politic section of the paper to him. He disapproves every single thing any politician has done ever, (“really? That’s not how I would’ve done things!”)

-he is fluent in French Canadian due to his years working in logging camps.

-he thinks he is superior than the average express engine, he sees them as nothing but pampered spoiled things unwilling to “put in a side rod and do real hard work”. According to him, “pulling the express is not real work because all you do is look pretty and go fast.” To him, all express engines are the equivalent of a rich lady’s pampered poodle, while he’s a sled dog that’s actually willing to work. If he met Gordon, he would immediately put him on heavy industrial work and happily watch him struggle and complain while he sits back and laughs.
