Whump Art 9
Whumpee is safe, but terrified of his rescuers, or maybe he's still with Whumper, who is trying to be a better person, but Whumpee can't forget all the things Whumper did to him so easily.

Obsessed with Caretaker & Whumper relationships as of late. Caretaker acting as Whumper's right hand, hanging off every word they say, engrossed in the ideology they spew out. Whumper is their idol, their mentor, the one person they trust more than anything. So when Whumper says that Whumpee is dangerous and not to be trusted, when Whumper says Whumpee deserves the abuse, the trauma, the wounds - Caretaker believes them... at first, anyway.
But how long can you go before you start to humanize the battered and bleeding body in front of you? When you start sneaking extra meals, cleaning wounds before they get infected, lingering for longer while having thought provoking conversations? When they stopped being a threat and started being someone they desired, so deeply, to protect?
Caretaker trusted Whumper, and maybe they still do. They just began to trust Whumpee more.

20. enemy-to-caretaker
"don't touch me!" whumpee screams as they scramble away from whumper. they dig their nails into the floor to relieve the tension. whumper is watching them with wide, terrified eyes, so uncharacteristic and strange that it just makes whumpee more fearful.
"whumpee, listen to me. listen to me! i'm not here to hurt you!" whumpee's breathes come out hot and hard. their head is screaming, danger, danger, danger, each step whumper takes closer to them making the panic alarms in their brain flare.
you hurt me! whumpee's brain screams. they sneer at whumper and whumper flinches back. danger, danger, danger! you hurt me! you monster! you hurt me!
"i'm sorry." whumper whispers, quiet and oh so broken, and whumpee can't help but laugh. what a joke.
"no you're not. you're just sorry that you got found out." whumper's eyes widen even further and they shake their head aggressively. the anger in whumpee dulls from the odd gesture of vulnerability. what the hell is going on here?
"no, you have to believe me. i... i didn't want to. i had to. they- it was my job, whumpee. and i thought i was doing the right thing. i thought it was for the greater good. but now i know-" whumper's voice chokes up. whumpee's eyes widen, heart pounding uncomfortable and confused at their ribcage. is whumper crying?
"now i know that it wasn't good. what i did- it wasn't good. i hurt people. god, i hurt you, whumpee, and i'm so sorry. i never wanted to hurt you. i should have known better. please, please forgive me." whumper falls to their knees. they sit there, crumpled up into a pile, silently sobbing into their hands.
a soft hand falls on their shoulder. they look up to whumpee's face, eyes wide with awe. their hand on whumper is shaking from fear. still, they don't draw back.
"i don't know if i can ever forgive you." whumpee confesses, and whumper could almost cry. it doesn't matter if they can't. it doesn't matter. they're trying to trust whumper, they're willing to give them a second chance, and that's all that matters.
"just let me help you." whumper takes whumpee's hands in their own. whumpee flinches back instinctually and a flood of self-hatred floods through whumper. god, how could they ever have hurt them so badly that the mere sight of their face makes them flinch?
"let me take care of you. i'm going to keep you safe. no more lies, no more pain, i want to earn your forgiveness." whumpee stares at whumper, incredulous. this is nothing like the whumper they knew. is this the true whumper, or just another attempt at manipulation?
whumper's thumb swipes away a tear from whumpee's cheek. their breath catches, but they don't pull away. the whumper they knew would never have done that. not even as a trick. this is someone new. this is someone that whumpee can learn to trust.
"it's okay if you never forgive me. just let me help you. let me undo what i did." whumper holds whumpee's hand against their chest. the frantic thump-thump-thump of their heart pounds against whumpee's hand. they look down at their hand, wide-eyed, then up at whumper's tear-slick face.
whumper opens their arm for a hug, and whumpee carefully accepts.

Day Six: Secrets Revealed
Caretaker works at a rehabilitation shelter. They never talk about their past but they understand the whumpees conditioning better than expected. Until one day a whumpee comes in and recognizes Caretaker, only to reveal that Caretaker used to work as a whumper at a facility. Thats when their secrets revealed, even if they regret it and tried to make amends.

Attention Whump Community!
Clogging disability tags is a massive problem that we need to address. Many tags, especially those surrounding permanent injuries, paralysis, vision loss and certain illnesses have become unusable due to being flooded with unrelated things. Yes, that includes your writing. Those tags are not for you. It's isolating, frustrating and depressing to try finding a community and other people who share your issues but all that comes up is whump, fandom shit, gifs, headcanons, etc.
I'm newly paralyzed. I have looked at many tags surrounding paralysis, trying to find support, a community, anything of people struggling with the same thing. Nothing. There's barely anything for us in the general disabilty tags. I am BEGGING you to understand and recognize how AWFUL it is.
So, I have a proposition. A tag you can and should use exclusively for disability content in whump writing. Not any other tag surrounding disability, lest you'll clog it up.
#disabled whumpee
It's tempting to use more specific tags, I get it. Due to being in the whump community myself I know #medical whump is already a tag. You have those tags. Use them. Don't use the disability tags. Don't clog up the few spaces us disabled people have.

There's two kinds of caretakers.
The one tending whumpees bedside as they're unconscious in the hospital.
The one hunting down the whumper that put them there.

I like whumpees that steal. Little scrawny street rat types.
Rogues are my favorite dnd class couldn't you tell.
But I like seeing whumpers having to check their pockets after visiting or being around whumpee. Whumper telling whumpee to drop whatever they took. Whumper jumping as they didn't quite hear whumpee enter the room (and then putting a bell on them or something). A whumpee who knows their way around a house at night, snooping around whumper's stuff, taking food when they hadn't had dinner as punishment.
Whumpers having to triple lock whumpee because how the FUCK do you keep getting out of these. Caretakers politely asking if they can have their things back, but also jumping when whumpee comes in the room. Whumpees noticing this and once they trust caretaker enough announcing their presence.
Just sneaky whumpees who have the street smarts. Whumpees that are nimble and fast but easy to over power. Whumpees who can hide things, and themselves.

ok so superhero whump scenario:
Villain is Hero's favourite 'bad guy' to fight. Villain never really hurts anyone with their actions, and anything they steal is usually anonymously returned within a few days. The worst crime they've really committed is property damage. Hero is convinced they're just doing it for fun, as evidenced by Villain's very melodramatic and performatively cheesy attitude during their confrontations
Eventually, Villain disappears. Hero assumes they just decided to put down their cape and mask, though is a little saddened that they now don't have any real 'comic relief' in their day-to-day villain fighting.
A few months later, Hero is in Superhero's HQ when they come across a locked door they hadn't noticed before. Overcome with curiosity, they figure out how to get it open and take a peek inside.
Even without their iconic costume or mask, Hero would recognise Villain anywhere. Villain looks awful. Emaciated, bruised, scarred, curled up in a shivering ball in the corner of what Hero now recognises as a cell. How long has Superhero kept them here? And why? Hero doesn't know, all they do know is that this is wrong, and that their old rival needs their help, Superhero be damned.

Prompt 48
Whumper is in the market for a new pet. There he tries to choose a sturdy one. Working for Whumper requires being able to withstand a lot of hard work, plus, Whumper plans to have fun training a challenging pet, it would be a pity if a bit of fun ended up killing it.
Among all the pets, a tall, strong one stands out immediately catching his eye. This pet, with its clenched jaw and furrowed brow, looks challenging enough to amuse him. So, with that in mind, Whumper approaches and yanks on its hair, expecting a reaction such as defiance, fury or even humiliation, but instead Whumpee leans against his hand, seeking his touch.
Paying closer attention Whumper notices the scars under Whumpee's clothes… it seems that his new pet has already had an owner.

Whumpee thinks Caretaker is their new master. Good trope, right? But check this out;
Caretaker doesn't notice.
Because the morning after the day they were rescued, all Whumpee did was get Caretaker a cup of coffee. It was only after then that Whumpee realized new master new rules, and Caretaker might not like coffee at all. So after an hour or so of a panic attack, Whumpee decides to stay put and not do anything.
But Caretaker didn't say anything about that coffee, so Whumpee should probably keep doing that?
And so, every morning, Caretaker gets a cup of coffee, says thank you, that's a nice gesture, and gets done with the day, while Whumpee tries to stay as quiet and unnoticed as possible. Not angering Caretaker is their top priority. Caretaker notices Whumpee is really, really quiet, but hey, they might just like it quiet. They do seem a little scared, but they've been putting off well, so Caretaker is positive that they'll get better with time.
Then Caretaker hears Whumper liked a cup of coffee every morning.
That's.. a strange coincidence.
I hope that's a coincidence.
And they finally try to talk to Whumpee about it, and Whumpee breaks into tears and Caretaker realizes what a mess this is,

Okay, hear me out....
A caretaker with an extremely conditioned whumpee.
Caretaker is forced to "speak their language" to get through to whumpee. Caretaker has to start acting like Whumper to slowly undo the conditioning.
They have to start harsh and strict to slowly teach Whumpee what freedom is, or reintroduce them into their own agency.
Maybe Whumpee was a slave or a pet, and all they know are orders and discipline and reward. Before Caretaker figures this out, Whumpee is listless or catatonic, or maybe self-destructive and reckless. Without order and routine, Whumpee has no idea how to function, their mind is sent into chaos.
Caretaker has no interest in being a master, but to get through the conditioning, to even get them medical help, they are forced to get their hands dirty.... Orders are just necessary- "you're going to the hospital, that's an order" or "I order you to decide on what you want for dinner."
Caretaker never wanted this power and responsibility over another person.
With power, there is also the risk of corruption.
Maybe Caretaker is terrified about walking the fine line between helping their severely damaged and twisted whumpee and becoming the new whumper.
Maybe they get it right, maybe they get it wrong, maybe it's something in between, there's so many directions this could go and all of the threads are so interesting.

You know what? I don't give enough credit to comforting actions paired with violent ones. I'm not talking about after either, I mean soft touches while hurting whumpee
A knife in one hand and the other stroking whumpee's back
tying whumpee in an uncomfortable position and petting their hair
injecting a sedative/poison and singing a lullaby
putting a blade through whumpee while hugging them <3
a hand on their cheek and the other around their throat
