the amount of knowledge in guns you need to have to weave that into the story is fascinating to me. I don’t even know what racking a gun is (I do however know a whole bunch about obscure physics theorems) anyway I just think it’s neat how far we go into research to write things that make sense

i'm still not sure if i got everything correct, but no one has told me otherwise fjkjsd you've definitely heard the sound of a shotgun racking if you've watched any movie with guns in it, it's that "ch-chuck" kinda sound. what i didn't know is that there's apparently a huge debate in the home defense gun community over whether you should keep your gun loaded and racked or just loaded (don't bother mentioning safeties, they'll call you slurs...). the true benefit of not racking the gun would be if a little kid gets a hold of it, they're not going to know how to rack it therefore even if they pulled the trigger they hopefully wouldn't be able to shoot anything (in MY opinion this is idiotic; the chance that the gun would go off anyway is never zero, especially if they've ever seen their parents shooting and decide to copy their movements, as kids love to do). then some people think you should wait to rack it until you know there's an intruder in your house because the mere sound of it will make them go "oh shit" and just leave. people on the other side of the argument think this is pointless and only serves to reveal your position (but uhhh fyi, in some states you're supposed to give them a verbal warning and/or try to escape before using deadly force anyway). and they say you shouldn't be owning a gun if you're not prepared to use it as anything other than a sound effect. plus i saw some people say that you need that 1 extra round in the chamber or you might run out, which.... most pump shotguns hold 3 - 5 rounds so.. it just seems excessive to me, i can't imagine shooting up to 5 times and missing all of them?? in that case dude i think you're just fucked and 1 extra try is not going to help you lmao

the time factor is the most compelling argument to me, obviously if you're asleep and you hear someone break in and enter your bedroom, your gun is useless unless it's ready to shoot right this second. but the chances of this happening are just so slim and you know what would be even more effective?? a home alarm system so no one can possibly make it to your bedroom without you knowing about it. i saw a lot of people say they keep a loaded shotgun under their bed for this scenario. i'm a paranoid fuck and i've always lived in areas with high crime rates so i get it, but that's why i keep a maglite next to me while i sleep so in the incredibly unlikely event that someone breaks in without me hearing it, i can you know. whack them. do i ever think i'll need to do that? no but it makes me feel safer than having a loaded and chambered gun with no safety on lmao that would make me feel incredibly UNsafe... also i don't want to make this too dark but while i was in high school i knew FIVE kids who died because of their parents guns, one way or another. that is just unacceptable to me. we also had a gun go off at school and even though no one was hurt, that was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life because obviously in the moment we all heard a gunshot and thought it was an intentional school shooting. so anyway, me and guns do not get along but it's fascinating to research

Okay, I just read your twitter thread with blue about Tainted Mikleo and it broke my heart in all the right ways. It was amazing. Just to have him break like that. And even if Sorey saved him it would be so easy to fall again, the guilt of what he’s done just eating him from the inside. That no matter what Sorey says it can never take back what he’s done and it’s just. He’s cracked. It’d take a single blow to shatter him completely, and everyone knows that. And some people (Symmone) are counting on it.

And Sorey just wants to help so bad, but he doesn’t know what to do because technically this is his fault (if he hadn’t left Mikleo behind this never would have happened) and his own guilt just starts to eat him too. Imagine him watching Mikleo try and pretend that everything’s okay, even when it’s obvious that it’s not. All Sorey wants to do is pull Mikleo close and promise him that it will be okay, but he can’t even get close without Mikleo flinching away, and it just. It cracks him too, every flinch every apology every time he smiles (fake so very fake) pushes the pain in a little bit deeper.

They just want to be close.

(They’re so afraid the other doesn’t, though. And it eats them alive.)

This AU is just so delicious, okay, and as much as I love the fluff, the angst in this fandom doesn’t really deliver so when there’s a chance, man I’m gonna milk that headcanon as dry as I can.

I personally don’t think Mikleo would fall into the same hole twice, but I do like the idea of the malevolence starting to plant itself from there and how it brings the both of them down together in the end. The only thing I find kinda problematic in their relationship is how they don’t usually talk their problems out (re: the separation thing. I’m just hoping they do talk it out off screen) so I can see both of them not willing to talk about it and drifts even further. But then again Sorey is just so kind. And he just wants to do his best so I guess sooner or later he’d give up and just randomly hug Mikleo or something and they’d end up having the heart to heart talk (again)

hi brandi!! do you think you could do a brief explanantion of all the deaths jada has witnessed (or indirectly caused?), or just how she is related to the deaths in general. thank you!

of course!! you know i'm laughably bad at being brief jfksjds so here's what we know in chronological order:

while pregnant with asa, caroline had a paranormal experience where she saw a pale woman covered in blood saying "I don't feel good. Will you take me to the hospital?"

months later, caroline goes to a mommy & me group and meets the very much alive and well aileen, who is pregnant with jada at the time. she immediately recognizes her from the strange vision, but aileen is unaware.

aileen and caroline become close friends throughout their pregnancies. asa and jada are even born within 24 hours of each other. as many happy years pass, caroline chalks up the vision to untreated anxiety and forgets all about it.

we don't know exactly how old jada was when she saw the first vision of her mom dying, but we do know that she prevented it somehow. by the time we see jada successfully saving her mom's life at the fair, she seems to already know the consequences of her actions. she knows that by saving her mom, she has caused the ride operator to die in her place. (we also find out that the man, who had been acting normally just minutes before, suddenly touched a live wire on purpose)

aileen mentions that jada has been having "nightmares", so we can assume that jada has told her mom about these visions in the past, but aileen thinks they're not real (or does she...?) we don't actually know what aileen was thinking. all we know is that aileen encourages her to stay quiet about them and especially not to tell her dad, because he would only worry. to this day, jada has never mentioned anything to her dad, and it weighs on her heavily.

again, we don't know how many times jada saves aileen's life between the fair and the car accident, but it's implied that it happens numerous times (many years later, alisa says, "I know you condemned an innocent man to die. I know it wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last. How many people, Jada? And how many more will follow?")

on the day aileen would die, she brings jada over to caroline's house. this is important: we don't see the vision jada had prior to this. all we can see is that she's extremely anxious and she tries to get her mom to stay home. she even resorts to saying the famous phrase, "I don't feel good. Will you take me to the hospital?" but aileen manages to talk her down.

it's unknown why jada accepted this compromise. since we don't know what her vision entailed (or if she even had a vision), we have no way of knowing what she thought was going to happen that day.

caroline recognizes the dress aileen is wearing and connects it back to her vision. she tries not to overreact because it's been ten years and caroline has already convinced herself that all the strange things she saw while she was pregnant were not real. she tells aileen to drive safely and gives her a big hug. jada and asa meet up with stevie and elaine.

we all know what happens next. the kids are playing around and running in the road. finn, who follows asa around everywhere, notices that aileen is fixing her makeup while driving and isn't paying attention to the road. being a ghost, he's powerless to get her attention. he uses all his energy in an attempt to stop her car, but because he feels so intensely scared for asa's life, he loses control and sends aileen's car flying through the sky, where it then crashes down, killing her on impact, right in front of the kids. jada can't do anything to save her.

in the aftermath of aileen's death, asa begins to see ghosts, including aileen (who is doomed to forever repeat, "I don't feel good. Will you take me to the hospital?"), and caroline feels extremely guilty about ignoring what she now believes was a warning from aileen all those years ago. we don't know exactly how many visions jada sees throughout the next few years, but she seems unsurprised when she sees chris porter (the headless man) die. she doesn't attempt to save him. we also get a glimpse into what her visions look like – a vague location, the cause of death, and the person who will die. this is the only information she gets ahead of time.

at the winter formal, she sees a vision of casper's friend sylvia dying by getting her heels caught in the stairs and cracking her head open on the tile. jada rescues her at the last second, surprising even herself, because she had already prepared herself to watch sylvia's fate.

when no one dies during the dance, jada starts to feel complacent, thinking she really saved someone this time. that's why it's so shocking when she, stevie, and elaine witness a stranger jumping off the bridge in a trance-like state that night. while she lay dying, the woman asks for "sylvia". this is when jada makes the connection between saving sylvia and killing this woman. she desperately tries to save her too, but just as it had been for her mom, it's too late. she bleeds out in jada's arms.

this affects jada deeply. she has nightmares (actual nightmares, not visions) representing her guilt over causing someone's death when she should have known better. she has made no attempt to save anyone since then. but she feels equally as guilty for her inaction. nothing she does feels right. and the only person she could talk about it with is her mom's grave.

jada sees a vision of a man dying in a barn fire, and she seems to disagree with what the news is saying about it, but she doesn't intervene and we don't get any further information about it (yet).

alisa enters the picture and stirs up even more guilty feelings in jada. when she touches jada, she can read her mind, including whatever visions she might be having at the moment. so when jada feels one coming on, she purposely grabs alisa's hand and forces her to watch it. she's expecting it to horrify alisa so she'll stop her psychological torment, but the vulnerability of that moment actually makes alisa feel... uh, well she wasn't horrified. lol. the closer they get, and the more intense the emotions they feel are, the more visions they share with each other. it all culminates in a vision of alisa dying – something jada has never seen before.

finally, when asa overdoses on pills so that he can grab aileen's hand and use her energy to time travel, jada sees this as a vision of some kind, though we don't know how much she saw or what she thinks of it yet.

i enjoy writing from the perspective of teens more now than i did when i was actually a teenager, because now i have the gift of hindsight, but i’m not so far removed that i’m out of touch. i still viscerally remember how it felt to be in my first relationship, to base my self worth on other people, to feel responsible for someone else’s actions even if it didn’t actually have anything to do with me, etc. it makes me so happy to know that you and other people can relate to elaine, although i’m sorry you had to go through that pain! when i originally thought up austin in my mind, i had nooo idea the can of worms i was opening lmao, i couldn’t have guessed how controversial he would be, but it’s been a really fun (albeit stressful for me) experience. as always i try to stay true to my vision no matter what anyone thinks, but it’s interesting to see how the way he’s perceived has changed over time. now I’M rambling jfksjds but thank you so much for this, i really can’t thank you enough for reading and connecting with my story 🥺💖💖

that last line omgggg that’s the truest way to describe them (and i feel the same about my career choices...). austin didn’t have a long standing crush on elaine for ages before asking her out; he just saw her in class one day and thought “i’m gonna ask her out” and then he did. and elaine said yes because why shouldn’t she? and they’ve just continued to progress their relationship without much thought. this doesn’t mean they don’t love each other, because they do, it’s just that their relationship was the path of least resistance. “lost” is a great word to describe them, austin especially :(

so let me just say that it’s been a while since i watched season 1 and i haven’t started season 2 yet, so some of this might not be accurate. but!! i had the same gripes when i watched it but i eventually changed my own mind. the shrooms scene is definitely not a realistic portrayal of what shrooms would make a normal person act like, but these aren’t normal people. they’re teenagers who have been removed from society, are starving, scared, beginning to think they’ll never go home again, combined with alcohol, and they don’t even know they’ve been drugged (that can make you feel real crazy REAL quick). the madness was already started to take hold in them while they were sober, the shrooms were just the gentlest little push they needed to give into it. personally i dislike how media treats shrooms in general (or like any hallucinogen) because it’s never realistic, but i don’t think yellowjackets was any more unrealistic than any other trip scene i’ve seen on tv. i agree that it was a cop-out and nothing more than a plot device which is pretty disappointing. i would’ve rather seen them descend into madness more gradually.

as for jackie’s death... if i remember correctly, all the girls had just fallen asleep outside the previous night and it was only a bit chilly, not dangerously cold. no one had reason to believe they were sending jackie to her death that night by making her sleep outside. and i live in an area where the weather fluctuates rapidly especially in the fall or spring, where one day i can be wearing a t-shirt outside but within a couple hours we’ll get 6 inches of snow. homeless people tragically die all the time in my city if they’re not able to take shelter when this kind of weather hits, because it happens so suddenly that you might not even wake up in time to realize that you’re freezing (or you’re half awake but your body is in shock and you become delirious). so i don’t find that part to be unrealistic at all. i can’t really remember where nat and travis were at the time so i can’t say why they would ignore jackie, but if it hadn’t started snowing yet, they probably just weren’t concerned. same with ben, he’s a voice of reason but he’s not really good at putting his foot down. taissa didn’t want to disagree with shauna and she didn’t think jackie would die, so she didn’t say anything. that’s all just my interpretation obviously but i’ve seen a lot of people call jackie’s death unrealistic and i just don’t agree

i believe they’re still these eyes but i’ve customized so much of my main sims cc that i can’t say it’ll look the same. i also edited their eyes in that post to make stevie look like she’d been crying and to make elaine’s eyes more dramatic!

are asa and casper any close to sadie, well as close as u can get with a toddler haha

yeahh, it’s kinda complicated... casper and sadie were really close while casper was still living at home. mikaela and danny never needed a babysitter, because casper was happy to watch her whenever he wasn’t in school. he did the same thing when asa was younger, which is why they have such a strong bond even though they weren’t living together most of the time. they’ll always have that relationship because it was built on a strong foundation. casper and sadie would have developed that same close bond over time, if casper hadn’t moved away. he misses her SO much (you can see that sadie is his lockscreen on his phone and he has pictures of her all over his dorm) but well... it’s hard to develop a bond with a toddler over the phone :(

as for asa, he’s only at the mayfield house on the weekends. he still goes over there even though danny and casper are gone, but it’s kinda awkward because mikaela has to work, so it’s just him and olivia, who he doesn’t know very well, and sadie. for as kind and caring asa is, he really isn’t that great with kids. he likes to sit in peaceful silence and just enjoy people’s company, which you really can’t do with a toddler jfksjds he kinda forgets that you have to talk to them if you want them to like you. so asa and sadie aren’t too close either, though he does love her and he tries his best.

this is another huge reason why mikaela wants to have another baby before sadie gets too old and the cycle would repeat
