I know we're all for redheaded men (and maybe a little bit of mad scientists as well?) here so I thought you might enjoy a snippet from the Strong The Stray and a Punk.

“Human testing.” It was all Kaleb managed to say.

“Human testing?” Duncan repeated the words as a question before he let out a laugh. “I guess it’s not untrue.”

A feeling of disbelief and confusion washed over Kaleb. He’d expected these accusations to be false as well. Had his friend really experimented on people, without proper permission?

“So you really did it? Why?”

Duncan was quiet for a while. Leaving Kaleb to think up scenarios in his head about what had been done. And with no medical knowledge all he had to go on was stuff he’d seen in horror movies, which didn’t seem like something Duncan would ever do.

“You’re imagining things, aren’t you?” Duncan shook his head. “Yes. It’s not a lie that I did some experiments on a human, but I also don’t think what I did would warrant me a reason to get arrested.”

Kaleb stared at him in confusion. The regulations clearly stated that proper permission forms were to be signed by a government representative, the person performing the experiment, the person being experimented on and at least four other witnesses. Duncan should know that.

“What do you mean?”

Duncan sighed. “I mean that I didn’t realize that it would classify as human testing if I were to test it on myself.” He pulled up the sleeves of his shirt to show the multiple burns, scars and wounds he’d inflicted on himself. Some of them seeming to be years old.

Ohh this is an easy one for Kaleb (the Strong, the Stay & a Punk).

Beelz.

He just hates that everything is overgrown and that there's birds and flowers everywhere. 🤣 I guess it doesn't go with his vibe.

Other than that, he would like if the poorer places in the system would be a bit more taken care of.

OC Name Meaning Tag

I usually choose my name by having an idea of what kind of feeling I want from their manes and sometimes I use a random generator to get ideas, or baby name sites. Sometimes I just know the name before I know the character.

The Infernal Cave:

KEEP ME BREATHING:

Fubuki: A Japanese name meanind "Blizzard". I wanted the big 4 families to have a theme in their names and since Astaro is very much based on Japan, and their last names is connected to seasons Fubuki felt like the most fitting name for the daughter in the Snow Family.

Sakura: Like with the Snow family having snow related names, the Petal family have names based on flowers. And what better name for a princess-like character, than Sakura.

Gideon: Gideon was the first character to be named and I did so before deciding on the themes of the big families. Gideon was for the longest time the name I would name my son if I ever got one. (100% based on the fact that John Kramer's unnamed son in SAW was going to be given that name).

Alexandr: Like the Astaro families, I wanted Lucif's big family to have a theme as well, and since Lucif was loosely inspired by Germany, Edelstein was an easy choice. So he had to have a name related to gems.

Casey: Casey just sounded cool. And like a very "not my real name" name.

Gikel: Because of his double name situation I felt like Gikel, a name related to Jekyll, was a good fit.

THE STRONG, THE SRAY & A PUNK

Kaleb: I randomly generated this name because he was supposed to be a small side character in the first book...

Rio: My picture of Rio is basically a typical action videogame character and Walker feels like THE last name. And Rio just goes well with Walker.

Owen: I don't like the name Owen, for some reason it feels icky... And that's exactly what this character is.

Isaac: I wanted a name that could be modified to give him the label "Zack" but I didn't want Zack to be his real name.

Wrapped In Ocean:

Cordelia: This was the hardest to come up with for this story. She is basically Kraken so I wanted a name that both fit her kind and caring character, but also would be easily connected to Kraken.

Diana: Diana is based on Davy Jones so I needed a female name that would work with that.

Levi: I just wanted a name that I could mentally connect to Leviathan and that also could work for a caring uncle.

We're Doing the Strong, the Stray & a Punk this time. (Most of these words felt more fitting.) And boy was it a long time since I opened this document...

Dull

“Sit down!” The commander himself leaned against his desk while they sat down in the chairs. “I guess you want to know why I called you here.” He gestured to the screen at the wall and showed them a picture of a man in a lab coat. The man had a light pink-orange hair color and his hair was put up into a high bun. He wore glasses and a lab coat. One of his eyes looked almost mechanic, the other had a dull gray color.

Repair

Fun Fact: After the events of Keep Me Breathing, Kaleb and Rio shifted from four-wheelers to motorcycles and Fubuki took over maintenance on their gear. She is also the one who installed the dog(wolf) carrier on Kaleb's bike.

Yellow

He turned towards the girl. She was of normal height and dressed in black jeans, a band t-shirt and an open hoodie. Her hair was dyed in a light pink color and her hair was partly in what he could only guess was supposed to resemble cat ears. The glasses she wore made her yellow eyes look even bigger than they already were.

(Dep)Ending

The trip to Asmodeum would take at least four days. Maybe more, depending on how well the doctor could drive. Rio would’ve preferred to have him riding with Kaleb, but since he had the carrier for Sozz, that wasn’t an option. The other option would be having him ride with Rio, but the thought of having a criminal that close to him, on his back, was frightening. Also, Kaleb had used the excuse that Rio wasn’t a very good driver with a passenger, which wasn’t a lie. He really wasn’t.

Student

“The human testing law doesn’t have anything in it about the tester being the one being tested on. The body modification laws however have a small part dedicated to personal modifications done to oneself, which basically says that you don’t need permission to tattoo yourself, as long as you’re not doing it for monetary profit. Maybe some of the testing done can fall under body modification.” Kaleb looked at the girl in awe. For the first time in years, her voice didn’t cause him discomfort. That’s a high scoring law student.

Lump

The smile in her voice was tainted by her grief. Kaleb knew she would always have a lump forming in her heart when it came to her friend. He felt it himself whenever something reminded him of his mother.

Hospital

“This is Doctor Duncan Huckstep. One of our top researchers at Silver Oak Hospital Center. He’s currently in charge of the Weakness Parasite.”

A chill ran down Kaleb’s spine. The weakness parasite, also known as shadow death, had been spreading through the cave system with great speed. It made it’s victims weak to the point that their bodies wasn’t able to work properly. Killing them with fatigue.

Make

It also became obvious that he, in fact, had a soft spot for Sozz. More often than not, he bent down to pet the wolf and made sure that there was food and snacks for him. He also did his best to make a bed for him, out of blankets and pillows, on the floor, and insisting that he was allowed in every bed and couch in the house.

Econobox

Since this apparently is a sort of car (googled it) I’ll bring you a fact about vehicles. In the Infernal Cave, the vehicles are fueled by the mineral Sphalerite and it works with kind of like a small nuclear reaction with the different chemical elements separately.

And it’s 4622-4623 so they’ve found a way to utilize the waste as well. Not sure how yet, though.

Kaleb looked around. The lack of dust and dirt made it clear that the apartment belonged to the commander. The foyer was neatly organized, as was the kitchen that could be seen from it.

“You want us to stay at your place?” Kaleb found it hard to believe that Zack of all people, would take in two men and a wolf. Especially since one of them had a record of rule breaking and causing trouble. Didn’t he also have a kid? He thought that he’d heard that somewhere.

“You’re having trouble with that, Neelam?” The commander’s tone was slightly less formal now. Not much but a little. Being in his home must’ve made him relax a bit.

“My kid’s at his mother’s place this week so I have a spare room. And I don’t think they’d give you any peace over at the dorms.” He smiled. “I hear them talk, you know.”

@eccaiia I had intended for Rio and Kaleb to leave for their mission right away, but Commander Zack didn’t want that so we’re staying the night at his place for more Sozz spoils :D

Emily Walker

Emily is the younger sister of Rio She's 20 years old and lives at home while she's studying.(Maybe Law, I don't know yet)

She does not have naturally pink hair, it is dyed. She has a huge crush on Kaleb, but he doesn't show any sign of returning those feelings. She's sweet and bubbly. Quite the opposite of Kaleb.

She went to Satara with her friend to support her brother when Kaleb ran off.

Keep Me Breathing

1. Before I started this project, I’d been putting writing on the back burner for a few years. I tried to figure out what I wanted to do and thought that it was somewhere in music.

2. The idea begun while I was watching an anime named “Sakugan” and everything kind of grew from that.

3. Casey was the first thing that came up. And he started out as a mix between Gagumber from Sakugan and  Oshino Meme from Bakemonogatari. 

the Strong, the Stray & a Punk

1. This WIP only came about because I had these three characters show up for a totally self indulgent scene in Keep Me Breathing, and I made the mistake of giving one of them a mohawk. (I have a weakness for men with mohawks) So I wanted to learn more about them.

2. The title for this came long before I figured out a plot. I hadn’t even figured out if there was supposed to be two or three main characters in it yet.

3. I watched Cyberpunk Edgerunners and realized that I need more crazy doctor types of characters in my life. So DocStep came to be, and he brought a plot with him. (thank goodness)

“He’s in Verrier.” Alexandr had put his phone away and come up to them. “Fuki performed a gear check and is staying the night in the house.”

Life Hazard didn’t seem phased by this. But the words he spoke had a tone of relief. “I assume he won’t stay long but it’s nice to hear that he’s okay. Did she say how the gear check went?”

“Besides some scratches on the bike and do- wolf carrier, it was all clear.” It had taken Rio until now to understand what they were talking about. Kaleb was with Fubuki? He was safe.

Days 11 & 12 of NaNo

Yesterday: Break Todays wordcount: 163 words...

So I’m entering a bad sleep deprived state... Yesterday was my las day at work and when I got home all I could think about was cats and how it would be if we had one(or 2). So I spent the rest of the day looking up how to know if you’re ready and name ideas... Instead of writing...   And this morning I was woken by my parents, who came to put up a heater. (We’re renting a small house from my mother.) I then had a two hour nap but haven’t recovered completely yet.

@eccaiia I’m defying the tracker now.

It doesn’t help that I’ve written myself into a mess and no longer know if my plot is what I thought it would be anymore...  It’s just getting more and more out of hand... I need to figure this shit out... :’D

But here’s a shorter snippet and let’s hope for a better tomorrow

Heads Up! Seven Up!

They were small wolfs, the size of a house cat. And their silken fur had a deep purple color, making them look much like the gems they were named after. A group of puppies had decided that his arm was a chewing tow.

Their teeth wasn’t very sharp, and their cheeks wasn’t strong at all, so it didn’t hurt. It did however wake him up.

He smiled at them and let them continue for a while. Just because he was awake didn’t mean he had to get up yet.

Stray

Fun Fact: The “Stray” in the title was unclear for a while. But when I finally figured out who it referred to I actually got a plot out of it.

Shatter

Fun Fact: Rio is a survivor of childhood illness and since Kaleb lost his grandmother in his early teens, he has a hard time letting Rio in, in fear that he would relapse and die on him.

Heart

“I've seen that look enough times to know that it's something.” She wasn't lying. Kaori Leaf had sported that distant emptiness since before she was born. Longing for someone that'll never stand before him again. His heart still not able to accept her death completely. “It doesn't matter if you tell me or not. Just know that I'm here if you need me.”

Drift

Would he be happy if Fuki found him? She'd always been a little worried that he preferred her friend over her. Would this be any different? Would he ask about her or would he simply forget about her?

Something gently stroke the top of her head. From her forehead to her hairline. A soft hand. It couldn't be Casey, since he was at the door and his hands were rough, it had to be Sandr's.

She already wasn't able to keep her eyes open and she soon drifted off to sleep, letting go of the grip she had on Sandr's other hand.

Ring

It was a wire chain, loops had probably been twisted to create a line with a ring at each end, and those loops were linked together to form a chain of maybe 40-50cm. From the middle of the chain hanged a small charm-like plate. It was shaped like a small circle, surrounded on one side of a bean shape and with uneven sticks poking out on the other side. An engraved zigzag pattern lined the inside of the bean shape and the number “5249” was stamped in the middle of the bean.

SKELETON Part:

Fail

She couldn't help but laugh. The smoke must be what made the comparison so fitting. Smoke. The memory of Casey in the forest came back. She probably should thank him for saving her.

Maybe he wasn't that bad after all.

She turned towards the shower, away from Sakura. She was afraid she'd see through her thoughts. “I know, I know!” Her voice didn't fail her. It didn't give her away. It sounded just like it always did. Good. “I'll get to it.”

Better

He turned to her when he heard the bathroom door open and the fear in his eyes took away all thoughts about her eyes. She shifted her gaze between her two friends for a while. What was going on? Hadn’t she seemed better just a few minutes ago?

Blue

He walked past her into the kitchen and she was once again reminded of how tall he was. His eyes were a color between grey and blue, and looked like ice crystals, and she thought the silver chained epaulettes on his suit made him look like a prince. Even more so when he, like now, paired a silver headband with his usual high ponytail. This time however, something seemed off. She couldn't figure out what but it was like he was bothered by something, but at the same time very happy, as well as just his usual formal self.

Guess

“Well 10 or 25 doesn't matter. They'll still get angry if we're late for the lunch. Will they not?”

He quickly let go. “Right! Lunch.”

She handed him a handkerchief. “Well I wouldn't mind not going but I guess that's not an option.”

He dried his tears and was soon back to his usual collected self. “Nope. You're going. If not for mum's sake, do it for Gideon. Because I wouldn't want to be there when he realizes you're not showing.”

Surprise

She looked around before she sat down by a small table and ordered a coffee. She thought about the fraud. “C something was his name?” She thought. This was like that time when we waited for Sakura by the vehicles back at the inn, and she thought that somehow she wouldn't be surprised if him or someone like him would just sit down by her table and start talking to her.

Since it’s Preptober I took the chance to play around with the characters for my nanowrimo project c:

Kaleb: You read my diary? Rio: At first I did not know it was your diary. I thought it was a very sad handwritten book.

Rio: How are you today? Kaleb: Please don’t make me think about my life.

Kaleb: Make no mistake. Not only am I party rocking, but I am also in the house tonight. DockStep: But are you shuffling? Kaleb: Everyday. Rio: What language are you two speaking??

Rio: Five little monkeys jumping on the bed. One fell off and… DockStep: Was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Rio: Mamma called the doctor and the doctor said… Kaleb: You might be entitled to financial compensation if he or a loved one dies.

Kaleb: I'm not doing to well. Lilii: What's wrong? Kaleb: I have this headache that comes and goes. *Rio enters the room* Kaleb: There it is again.

Kaleb: So, are you two dating now? Rio & Lilii: Yes. Kaleb: Why? Rio: I happen to find Lilii very appealing. Kaleb: Yeah, I can understand that. I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with Lilii.

I know I'm a bit late with this but thank you so much for asking!❤️

Okay so the cities The Infernal Cave (where a few of my WIP's take place) are very different, depending on witch state they belong to.

In Astaro, the cities are fairly occupied in bigger cities, while smaller ones and suburbs have much man made nature. (They don't get enough light from the moonstones to have much living bushes so they've made their own with metal and gemstones). While they do have a clear day/night cycle, almost everything is open and active 24/7 and bigger cities have a lot of neon signs and big screens that light up the areas. (Think big cities in Japan)

Beelz on the other hand have so much moonstone light and wildlife that they've incorporated nature into their cities. It's more unusual to NOT have plants grow up the houses there, than to have their buildings overgrown with wildlife. Their houses are also very much big boxes and all cities seems to have been planed using a grid. So in contrast to the vines and plants, everything man made have straight lines and 90° corners. Also, apart from the hospitals and a few hotels, everything closes down when the moonstones shift from white to blue.

Lucif is probably the state with the least moonstone coverage. There, everything is made out of stone and metal. But they're also the ones with the most grand buildings. They have castles and sculptures and walls surrounding many bigger cities. If you looked at them from above, you would think that they just threw their houses on there and tried to make roads between them. In terms of day/night activity, they do keep a day based society but also have many things open during night time.

NaNo day 14

I’m finally starting to be able to reap the benefits of having a few weeks off. I’m also reaching a point where my story comes together again. I started to jump chapters and have skipped 2 already, because I still don’t know what Rio is doing. I’m getting ideas, but I’m not sure.

“She was pretty. Are you always that rude to girls?” Duncan said as soon as the girl was far enough behind them.

“Don’t you even think about it!” Kaleb knew how DocStep could be flirtatious enough to challenge Gikel.

“So you do like her?”

“No. I mean, ugh. She’s Rio’s little sister. She can do better.”

Duncan just answered with a stretched out “oh” and they continued on their walk through the castle in silence.
