He has to be doing something with his hands.#A decent amount of this scene is just Karen and Frank staring at each other and breathing.#And Matt's reaction to realising something is going on is VERY MATT.#I want (I need) Matt to question Frank on his *intentions* - so we get the parallel of that against his heartbeat conversation with Karen.#I think Matt could to get alot of stupid joy from having something to tease them both about.#I don't know how I expect him to actually feel about the possibility of whatever they have - but I think there are elements here that can b #fun and not serious and dark #I probably would have liked the flow of this season more if there had been framing around how Matt was working through his sh*t #Like each ep has a VO but it's just 20 secs of him talking to Karen's voicemail - keeping her updated. And she never responds but it's #just little thoughts he's had and things he'd say if she was actually there. And some of them are stupid or sarcastic but it's a ritual.#It's keeping him sane.#I read an article today about what they could do with these 3 in S2 and I don't know what to think. I want to have no expectations.#No expectations is safer. But I want more Kastle and as long as neither of them die I don't care how I get it.#(Just no more killing people I like. Writers you tried it. It wasn't great so don't do it again.)#Giffing in this lighting almost did my head in.

Another week, another WIP Wednesday! Still working on my de-aged Tim fic, but I also have a fic that i banged out over 3k in two days? So there's a snippet of that as well (that fic's premise is most of the family finding out for the first time that Tim is immunocompromised, currently titled Tim's Spleen)

De-aged Tim

That seemed to do the trick because Tim nodded, though his eyes went distant in thought. The kid probably had a thousand questions, and was trying to figure out what order to ask them in. "Did my parents die?" he finally asked, and Jason's jaw dropped a bit. He then explained his thinking, "I mean, earlier you seemed surprised by the fact my parents went on trips a lot and I don't think my parents would stop traveling unless they had to, so either the company went under or they died. And I'm staying here, and Dick said it was my room not a guest room or something, so I probably live here, or at least did for a bit. The room seemed a little too clean for me to have been living here, but I'm an adult now, right? So I probably moved out, but I definitely did live here based on the pictures and stuff in the room. My parents dying is the only way it makes sense to me." Jason's jaw was just about on the floor from the kid's deductive reasoning.

Tim's Spleen

Tim's grip on the handlebars tightened again. "I knew it was serious," he murmured. Losing an organ, especially one vital to the immune system, was a big deal for a vigilante. It was important that his doctors and team know. "I've spoken with Leslie and Alfred about it. I just assumed at least Bruce and Dick had read the report."

Barbara sighed, and Tim could just imagine her pushing her glasses up to rub her face. "Dick's always been awful about reading reports," she said after a moment. Neither of them said anything about Bruce. What was there to say? The man was usually diligent about reports, this was an anomaly.

this is the exact translation i read, commentary and all, last year, but full disclosure: i had to read the whole thing as a pdf file on my phone because it was next to impossible getting hold a physical copy in my country. it's taken me OVER A YEAR to get hold of this actual printed book

do you UNDERSTAND how good a book must be for me to tolerate reading it as a pdf file on my phone, aka the absolute worst format to read a book in?? yes the thebaid is THAT good (you should read the thebaid)

I’m not obsessed with it but it’s a cute and fun little YA duology with great characters #the plot is relatively straightforward; it’s a bit more focused on the character journeys and interactions #I appreciate that it didn’t try to do Too much with the plot #while still having some decent conversations about changing the system #I enjoyed having Xio’s pov. the little nerd.#I enjoyed the talking birds they kept coming across.#*to a group of people i hate and have trapped in prison* “actually im trying out they/them pronouns” 'oh sure. I still hate you'#Niya was very entertaining (if perhaps just repeating memes a lot)#also aurelio ending….

One of the interesting bits of trying to resume working on the game after so long is looking back at my ancient Draft Placeholder versions of an image from 4 yrs ago trying to remember what the hell I meant back then, to hopefully interpret it into some more final (ish..) form of the same thing .. making slow progress lol

#At this point I've decided it's just a consistent design decision to have the sketchy slightly wonky sort of art ghbjj #I simply don't have the digital art skills/tools/patience (mostly that) to do 100% digital things and have a Clean Polished Professional #Neat Looking Perfect Crisp Lines sort of thing like one would see in most games. I'm drawing everything in pencil half decently (not strict #ly making sure every line is straight or that the perspective even makes sense) and then scanning it in and coloring it on the computer #and that's about it. In another world I could hire an artist or two to do professional backgrounds and charcter art or etc. - but as I am #a mere penniless peasant hermit with functioning issues who has to do every aspect of everything themselves - I'm just going to do #what is possible within the time frame/my ability/etc. and then just be like ''ah you see! actually this is intentional~ it has a homemade #crafty hand drawn sort of charm about it - yes? this was the direction all along!!'' LOL #Which for the record I'm not like complaining that it's necssarily Bad or anything - more just I suppose not the Professional Polished #style you Typically see in a lot of things - again the like - sketchy unclean lines of it all.#(like I think usually people use some sort of symmetry tool to make sure that all sides of a box are neat and clean and have that #Professional Game Art type of feel about them - rather than 'this is a scan of scraggily pencil lines in which I did not even bother to use #a ruler or try to get them all that even' lol). So it's not that it's BAD really.#just I think.. perhaps ''unconventional'' compared to the examples of other #games I've looked at. BUT. the point is to convey an idea. I think your art has failed if you do not convey a concept properly. But so #long as it meets your purposes and is not SOO cluttered/scribbly that nobody can even tell what's going on (unless that IS your intention)#then like.. I think it's fine. You can tell a house is a house even if it's not polished. No worries. (<convincing myself)#ANYWAY.. also 'Nanyevimi Market Quest' is still SUCH a placeholder name but I genuinely can never think of anything else so #I've just been going with it for now ToT... There's no distinct actual throughline story/plot so there's no 'theme' to base a title #around. Kind of like how 'The Sims' is just called the sims because naming it like 'Sims: Downfall Of Pleasantview' (one of the #towns in TS2 i think) would be a weird misname since what happens in the game totally depends on what you choose to do with it #So you can't really name it anything THAT specific (a player might not even choose to have a house in Pleasantview. what then? etc).#So it's just like..uh well...GENERALLY speaking.. everyone is uh.. on a personal quest..vaguely.. which takes place in a Market street full #of shops.. and you are mostly talking to shopkeepers... BUT it's not just a Market Quest since it's also in a fantasy world.. so we need to #give the fantasy world name.. and that's about it. I'm just at a loss for anything else. Maybe the like 2 and a half playtesters I #manage to scrounge up will have better ideas ghhh.. 'Nanyevimi Quest: Get To Know Some Shopkeepers' 'Find A Job In Fantasy World' you could #say 'Market Adventure' but some would argue just having a bunch of conversations and wandering around is not much of a real adventure.#don't want to set people up for thinking there's any drama or combat or anything. 'Do Menial Errands For Mentally Ill Elves Simulator' ghjg #(also sidenote: the '''chibi'' style versions of the characters on the menu screen....EVIL.. that style is SOOO hard for me to draw in for #some reason.. I just can't get the proportions right/have trouble fully ''simplifying'' the design.. took me HOURS lol... aUGHh)

#drkau #chatter #i debate over this point SO OFTEN LOL #they are BACKGROUND characters. like medium at best.#dess (or asriel or both you can argue any way) is the catalyst for everything but at the end of the day this is a kids story #and noelle IS still going to be the main character #but. man. does desschara work it out #their dynamic will be by far one of the hardest ones to write it think #it is very messy and very complicated and neither of them make great choices #and ive been writing a test piece of them for a WHILE #which. was good to get a decent nail of their characters as they stand in this au #but introduced SO MUCH MORE MESS. bc chara is aroace and 100% has some trauma and fucked-up feelings around sex #but xe DOES have sex with dess. and its like. does xe fully consent to it? yes!#does dess check in to be sure hey you're down bc she knows chara is ace while she isnt? also yes!!!#by the books they do everything right its just. chara is very very very good at rationalizing things.#and xe is. not actually as okay with this as xe is trying to be. and in fact this is very unhealthy for xir #(and then theres this whole OTHER layer of dark worlds and prophecies and everything that leads to frisk being born)#and its like. man. Ngl when I first got into bikes I was kinda sad that I went from a sport that I know sm people who r into it to a sport that I didn’t rlly know anyone who had the same passion for it (at least at this current moment) BUT to be honest sometimes now I appreciate it because it feels way more relaxed lmao like I kinda like that I can engage with it any way I like

#I mean like I said before ik some people that kinda like motogp or watched in the past #and actually a good friend of mine is rlly into seemingly all motorsports #<- he’s awesome bc I can text ‘omg superbike is insane’ or ‘omg [motogp thing]’ or ‘indycar omg!!!’ and all of those elicit a reaction and #a decent engagement of conversation in them #also ngl I do think my engagement with f1 is like. pretty intense #like doing quizzes of random years/races/people etc #and it’s quite competitive in my house bc we all like f1 #whereas with motogp/whatever it’s pretty much just like my own thing that I direct and no one else tells me what to do with it #also just had a vision of attempting to name every world champion and that sounds like a horrific undertaking #Altho ig at least it’s similar to 2000s+ f1 where a lot of the same names come up LMAO #to me motogp is very chill and fun #also ironically I do watch like. motogp free practice n don’t watch much except quali+ the races for f1 but #my understanding of cars is definitely still way better #idk it’s interesting to me

You can not convince me that Shinichi's eyesight is still 20/20 after all that strain (fireworks (where he was so up close I'm surprised he wasn't burnt), flash bombs, and straining to see in the dark then suddenly having huge headlights pointed at you. The explosions that happen in his vicinity –mind you, he's usually at the heart of them–almost daily must have had some sort of aftereffect on his eyes and ears, no matter how small.

i really have loved being in japan in general so far but most of my students are so fucking mean to me 😭😭 like they’re just so so sooo mean they parrot and mock me when i call someone’s name and laugh when i talk in general and it’s like how am i supposed to curry their favor or gain their respect when they are openly making fun of me from the second i walk into their classroom for the first time💀

#i think part of it is that 90% of the students are boys and they’re all super jocks so they don’t care abt english at all #also a lot of them are second semester seniors. and i was in their shoes not that long ago #which i understand. but like i wish they would at least be somewhat decent to me😭#like i wld fully be willing to say okay fuck the worksheet fuck the grammar let’s just shoot the shit. but none of them want to speak to me #also the ones who know i know japanese just speak japanese to me so i just stare at them blankly #at least in the us there were limits to the shit we cld say abt teachers in class because everyone was speaking english #to be fair i really struggle w conversational jpn & slang so most of the time i rlly don’t get the nuances #of what they’re saying to each other. and i can’t respond well at all. but i get the gist #its hard bc i’m new and also paired with new teachers for some classes so they don’t respect any ‘authority figure’ in the room #but like come on. don’t bully me.#i think part of the problem is there’s actually literally no consequences for anything. no detention or suspension or calls to parents #or getting benched for sports matches. which i think would actually get them to care #cuz there are things that technically i could try to do but there’s no way to actually enforce anything #idk. thinking out loud. the classes that have been decent & engaged have been super fun for me and energizing #but the others are rlly tough like so tough.#okay sorry i know no one cares

GOd okay I went to my neighbor’s housewarming, and don’t get me wrong, I love parties (if everybody doesn’t give me all of their attention all the time and tell me that i’m smart and funny and pretty I’ll DIE), but I forget how stressful it is to introduce yourself to new people when you work in a politically charged field. The whole evening was this:

Party Guest: So, have you lived in the area long?

[Okay, let’s think. White male, thirties, tall, muscle tee, sandals, wedding ring, but here without a partner. I just overheard him complaining about tariffs, so he’s either left-leaning or a disillusioned republican. Good sign, definitely not MAGA. Ah, that’s right, he brought his daughters – ages 5 and 7, well-behaved in a crowd – and they’re wearing princess dresses… doting father with an active role in raising his kids, lets them choose their own outfits… my gut is telling me heterosexual male feminist. That could be good or bad – statistically speaking, he believes in climate change… but that means 50/50 odds of anti-nuclear sentiment. I need more information, but I must answer carefully. We’re rapidly approaching the Question.]

Me: Not long! I just moved down from Boston a few months ago –

[Ball is in his court. Boston has been in the news lately for being an immigrant sanctuary city, but that’s mostly local news – I’ll get information based on body language. Oh, I may have made a tactical error. This is an opportunity for sports rivalry to come up, and I am ill-educated on the subject. Quick, I need a counter maneuver.]

Me: – but I actually grew up in the area.

[Good save, and a decent delaying action. If he takes the bait, I can redirect the conversation to local childhood reminiscence. He’s had two margaritas, and they’re starting to affect him – talking a bit too loud, and his expansive hand gestures bespeak more than typical New Jerseyan gregariousness. That could be to my advantage… unless it makes him too bold].

Party Guest: Coming back home for family, or is it a work thing?

[Shit, okay, he asked about work. This could be the endgame… but he’s foolishly thrown me a lifeline. I can’t lie, the hosts already know the real answer, but I can dissemble by playing to his fatherly conversational weak spots.]

Me: I moved for work, but my family does live nearby, so that’s a nice perk as well. I get to see my nephews a lot more often! The eldest just turned five.

[That should do it. My nephews are about the same age as his kids, which will build a rapport and redirect the conversation back to himself. It should be easy to get him talking about his daughters. Unless… oh no. He’s two drinks in on a Sunday night and working on a third in front of his children, while his wife stays home. She wakes up earlier than him, potentially much earlier. He’s been talking about the economy a lot. Damn, recently laid off? He’s going to focus on work.]

Party Guest: That’s awesome. What sort of job?

[The brilliant bastard. He’s good, he’s very good. Truly a worthy opponent. Pierced right through every single gambit and went straight to the Question. Have I met my match? Will I finally be humbled? It’s do or die.]

Me: I’m an engineer at an energy company.

[Alea iacta est.]

Party Guest: Energy?

[Last chance. He's intelligent and fiendishly clever, but hope against hope that he’s more well-read in Aristotle than Rutherford. This should dead-end him]

Me: Nuclear, kind of. Fusion, not fission.

Party Guest: Oh, that sounds cool.

Me: Mhm. So, how do you know Bill and Stephanie?

#I had a conversation with some colleagues about this #It was decent but my final point was that AI would just saturate everything we do #and render it pointless where no one would bother reading our work #since everyone uses it and everyone can use it #will that give anyone an advantage to succeed as is our intent?#nope #and the only thing that will have changed is how much more electricity we use #In this case #its water #and tbf the article says it depends on the weather #which will actually mean consumption will go up because hey #the overall climate is increasing in temperature which dictates how much water is needed to cool these things down!#GREAT #fuckin problems that don't need to exist that just worsen each other like a vicious cycle of people just refusing to not embrace every new #thing
