a lot of stories will take a so-called "golden age" period and go "hey it wasn't actually that good, in fact it kind of sucked for basically everyone but a few guys who benefitted from exploiting the rest" and i can respect that because i love a good exposure of the bones the system is built on, but the thing is i also kind of want more stories where it really was that good and just as horrifying for it. empires bursting at the seams with opulence, where gold really does run as freely as blood in the gem-encrusted streets. warriors clad in shining armour, with weapons so bright and sharp they hurt to look at. every day is overflowing with possibility, every night a party where people gorge themselves sick on sheer excess and still return for more. even the poorest man in the region lives in comparative luxury to his poverty-stricken peers elsewhere. and none of it is sustainable. it's collapsing under its own weight and the rot eating at its heart, its bottomless hunger barely kept at bay. it's a society that isn't built to last or be outlived.

rewatching lotr, and rewatched the hobbit trilogy like 2 weeks ago, and i must say. i love this franchise for all its “i knew a guy who knew a guy” relations. like to give just one example, gimli presumes for a second, like the whole fellowship, that frodo got injured by the cave troll in moria. but he’s actually just fine! because frodo just happens to be gimli’s dad’s boss’s situationship’s nephew, and therefore has the mithril shirt that gimli’s dad’s boss gave to his situationship right before gimli’s dad’s boss led the company to battle against, among others, legolas’s dad. legolas’s old situationship from like last year (60 years ago) was also there and chose, get this, gimli’s dad’s boss’s nephew over him. i love yall

In relation to the fireworks wizard post and the Lord of the Rings part comp. The party composition for The Hobbit is just as crazy if not more.
It goes
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Dwarf fighter
Halfling rogue
And occasionally that same fucking aasimar wizard.

Thorin: OW!
Bilbo: What happened?
Thorin: Nothing, just nicked myself on the blade
Bilbo: Aw, here *kisses his finger*
Thorin: Why'd you do that?
Bilbo: It's a hobbit thing! Kissing booboos makes you feel better!
Thorin:
-Later-
Thorin: Dwalin I need you to punch me in the mouth

Thinking about Frodo and Thorin. It is nuts how two characters who have never interacted can be so father and son coded.

Our Chinese readers like this painting the most. There are many problems with it now, but I was very happy when I drew it. I think Bilbo looks the most serious one in the team.

Yesterday my mom bought a balalaika off of marketplace and I really wanted to draw it, and what better way to draw it if not with one of my favourite characters? My mom also suggested that i drew Arwen in an outfit inspired by Russian folklore. I kinda butched her face so she doesn't really look like Arwen but she did add a lot of colour to this spread. The words behind Bofur are the translation of the song he sang in Rivendell from the extended edition (please excuse my atrocious writing and the possible mistakes, i dont practice my native language as much as im supposed to 🥲)
