The Sociability of Moon Nakshatra Natives (Pt. 1)

The Moon is the Graha of social exchange and emotional absorption. It governs the instincts that draw a person into family, community, or even romance. In Jyotiṣa, it represents the emotional mind or manas, which seeks comfort, security, and resonance with its surroundings. The Moon does not process through logic but through response, forming itself around its environment like water into the shape of its container. It reflects how a person bonds with others, adapts to the emotional tone of a space, and maintains internal stability through external connection. Its expression appears less in spoken decisions and more so in intuitive adjustments. The Moon shows how a person regulates themselves through others, tapping in to how they feel their way through life going off of their subjective experiences.

Moon nakshatras approach community through the lens of emotional contrast. There is usually a sense of isolation, melancholy, or being an outcast/outsider. The feeling of not fitting in or being at odds with their emotional environment becomes the reason they seek refuge by connecting with others who carry a similar sense of being (very often Jupiter or Sun natives). These nakshatras form bonds between people who might not belong anywhere else, but who, together, create a space of shared understanding. It is a kind of loyalty formed by mutual recognition arising from emotional anomaly. They have not yet fulfilled a role as part of the group, yet they carry something special or “weird” that everyone around them can sense. They are usually desiring something that gives them new hope or zest for life, but they are not doing anything about it. This makes them seem passive or lost at first. It is almost like they are waiting for something or someone to come along and anchor them. The key here is that moon natives start out as being apart from others, but not yet against them. They are not antagonistic or antisocial as a default. They want to belong, even if they do not fully admit it. They yearn for a sense of home and emotional contentment, but it comes from a place of past insecurity, so they are initially resistant, owing to their fear of being hurt, hurting others, being judged, or being abandoned again. What makes this power compelling is its subtlety because it tries to stay hidden, emerging only under pressure or through a slow process of revelation. But once revealed, this capacity shifts the entire dynamic around them. Their presence in a group alters its dynamics. At first, they bring imbalance or confusion, but after a while when they start to open up again, their new group celebrates them. Moon natives are catalysts, individuals who compel others to adapt, expose hidden dynamics, or create a shift from the norm, challenging internal stability. They destabilize the group (or the person, if it is just one individual they are connecting with) simply by being part of it.

I came up with a way to differentiate the stage of evolution or emotional progression these natives go through, so here is a guide on what to look for and what these things are that I am noticing.

The first stage of psychological development can be called the stage of perceptual isolation. In this stage, a person feels different from others and misunderstood by those in their immediate circle. Moon natives are highly sensitive, emotionally open, and expressive from birth, but this sensitivity is rarely protected or encouraged. It’s actually very weird the way I see it manifesting. The world almost always punishes them for their strong emotionality or difference in perception. Often, it is dismissed, criticized, or targeted. When this happens through bullying, abuse, neglect, or repeated rejection, the person begins to shut down and close themselves off emotionally. To protect themselves, they detach from the world. Their new inner world feels safer and more manageable than the reality outside. It becomes a space where they can express feelings freely and imagine relationships that offer the understanding they lack in real life. Over time, this retreat increases their sense of isolation. They begin to feel fundamentally separate from others, as if no one truly sees them or understands them. This is also one reason as to why they love magic, fantasy, illusion, hobbies, etc.

The second stage of evolution is what I like to refer to as the initial baptism by brotherhood. This is the most volatile stage. Eventually there will be someone who breaks through their initial stupor of sorrow or solemnity, usually through intensive assertion or pursuit. At this point, the moon native discovers or realizes they are being absorbed into a new group, and this causes a reaction of confusion followed by intense euphoria from feeling accepted, which leads to an extremely strong bond being formed—brotherhood. Identity is shaped through shared emotional experiences, such as suffering, feeling at odds with others, obsession, play, love, war, or what have you. This phase is defined by emotional entanglement and the dormant potential for mutual recognition. It is the moment of impact, when someone enters a new world of physical closeness, emotional chaos, connection, purpose, mission, or shared goal/passion that binds them together. It is not something they sought out, but something that sort of just happened to them by trial or by fate.

The third stage is decision. This is where the bond solidifies but individual reservations start to surface. Roles within the group begin to take shape. Everyone gets summed up as being something to the group, such the protector, the wild card, the heart, the strategist, etc. Their identities are no longer just their own. The dynamic becomes ritualized and self-reinforcing. If a new member finds accepting and adapting to the new social hierarchy challenging, then they may start to question or undermine the group's authority and cohesion. In certain scenarios, these people are excommunicated from the group. In others, they are sort of put in their place and made to follow their assigned role. In most cases, however, they assimilate and start to instinctively open back up emotionally.

The third stage is immersion. This phase can last for a time and will sometime feel like a golden era. At this stage, they start to trust their group more than anyone else in the world and will do anything for them. They’ve gotten past their need to feel isolated, and the group becomes an emotional home, a moral compass, and sometimes the only reason for existing. There is little individuality here. Everything becomes relational, based on one’s loyalty, dedication, and love to the group. If everyone is fine with this, then it could in theory last forever, but that is not realistic. Even if no external force threatens to disrupt the group's harmony, moon men are changeable by nature and so will eventually invite their own issues sooner or later.

The third stage is ensuing fracture. Eventually, something breaks. A loss, a crisis, a fight, a betrayal, a natural drifting apart, or an external event that forces a separation will cause the group to lose its stability. This is a psychic rupture, not just a logistical one. It sets the point for the end of emotional fusion and the beginning of existential disorientation. The pain it brings is the disintegration of identity because their sense of self was strongly entangled with the group. It gives the moon native an intense feeling of abandonment. This phase can be explosive or eerily quiet. Sometimes a group member walks away. Sometimes the group dissolves. Sometimes they are torn apart by external violence even. But it always leaves the protagonist unmoored. In better circumstances, people grow apart with less violence or conflict, and there remains a lingering attachment that is not entirely erased, similar to how you might view a distant family member or an old friend you no longer keep in touch with. The more common function of this stage is usually trauma though. Something traumatic happens that burns bridges and creates a divide in the structuring of the group.

The fourth stage is isolation, haunted by the self. This is where we meet the classic lone wolf archetype. The feeling of otherness returns, and even if they are part of other groups going forward, they never quite “fit.” This is very common to sun men as well, but sun men just like to be alone because they feel they do not need attachments. For moon men, this lone wolf mentality is different. They need people and may even try to connect, but they are not able to in the same way others are. Their solitude is understood to be caused by the fracture with their older group or connection(s). They are not alone by choice, but it starts to become a coping mechanism that they push people away. The man walking alone through the desert, the one trying to find something lost to them, the one who avoids emotional attachment to what is new was once someone else. They were once part of a group or relationship bound to each other through intense love and brotherhood. This following phase of isolation is defined by control. Emotional restraint becomes their armor, but something remains beneath the surface. A flicker of memory. A quiet regret. An unconscious longing to feel again. A hope that they might return to what was lost and find out if the pieces can still be held together.

The fifth stage is reconnection or a new spark. The lone wolf devoid of connection encounters a meaningful bond once more. A new group, a protégé, a familial or romantic figure, or a familiar mission/goal/desire that demands trust binding people together despite initial resistance. They do not want to be part of a new group, and they are still trying to push people away, but it is like they are forced to anyway. There is growing tenderness in this renewed attempt as they learn to let go of their previous engagements from long ago to embrace new ones. It is like reincarnating into a new family. It is new vulnerability that has been earned. They still may resist at first, but something deeply human comes to the surface, flickering with new promise. This phase is not always redemptive. It can end in relapse, deeper isolation, or even death, but it reveals that even in their silence, they are still shaped by the memory of their past connections and future hopes. Beneath the frozen exterior, they are still just that same kid who wants to express themselves and please those they love.

As I watched people online debate the models of anti-colonial struggle, raising comparisons to Algeria and North America and South Africa, I found myself returning to the foundational Jewish liberation myth: the Exodus. It was hard not to think about the moment in the Passover seder when we lessen the wine in our full cups with our pinkies as we recite the plagues. This ritual has materialized as an indispensable touchstone, insisting that to hold onto our humanity we must grieve all violence, even against the oppressor.

But I also thought of the plagues themselves, particularly the final one, the slaying of the first born—children, adults, the elderly. It seems that hiding in our liberation myth is a recognition that violence will visit the oppressor society indiscriminately. I know that I have many friends, and that Currents has many readers, who are asking themselves how they can be part of a left that seems to treat Israeli deaths as a necessary, if not desirable, part of Palestinian liberation. But what Exodus reminds us is that the dehumanization that is required to oppress and occupy another people always dehumanizes the oppressor in turn. For people who feel like their pain is being devalued, it’s because it is; and that devaluation is itself a hallmark of the cycle of the diminishing value of human life. As the abolitionist geographer Ruth Wilson Gilmore has said, “Where life is precious, life is precious.” We are seeing the ways that Jews as the agents of apartheid will not be spared—even those of us who have devoted our lives to the work of ending it. (I am thinking of Hayim Katsman, zichrono l’vracha, killed by Hamas, an activist against the expulsion of the West Bank community of Masafer Yatta, and Vivian Silver, a hostage in Gaza, who is known to many of its residents as the person they meet at the Erez Crossing who advocates for and facilitates their transfers to Israeli hospitals for treatment.)

That question of how we recuperate this humanity is ultimately an organizing question. People have repeated over and over again over the last few days that you “cannot tell Palestinians how to resist.” To me, it seems there is a very literal dimension to this axiom: They are not asking. Part of what has made the experience of this event feel so different from the status quo—and so different to Palestinians and Jews—comes from the fact that Palestinians were undeniably the actors, for once, not the acted upon. The protagonists of the story. I consider it an enormous failure of our movements that we have not been able to build a vehicle for that kind of reversal in any other way thus far. Our Jewish movements for Palestine were not powerful enough to stop other Jews from gunning down Palestinians in peaceful marches at the Gazan border fence, or to keep Palestinians from being fired, harassed, and sued for speaking the truth about their experience or—God forbid—advocating the nonviolent tactic of boycott. And now, we do not have a shared struggle able to credibly respond to these massacres of Israelis and Palestinians. With all of the work that many Jews and Palestinians have done to reach toward each other over the years, I believe at heart it is this failure that is now driving us apart. There is no formidable political formation that I know of that can hold the political subjectivity of both Jews and Palestinians in this moment without simply attempting to assimilate one into the other. No place where Jews and Palestinians who agree on the basics of Palestinian liberation—right of return, equality, and reparations—are poised to turn the synthesis of these two subjectivities into a coherent strategy.

One of the most terrible things about this event is the sense of its inevitability. The violence of apartheid and colonialism begets more violence. Many people have struggled with the straightjacket of this inevitability, straining to articulate that its recognition does not mean its embrace. I am reminding myself that it was from Palestinians, many of them writing and speaking in these pages, that I learned to think of Palestine as a site of possibility—a place where the very idea of the nation-state, which has so harmed both peoples, could be remade or destroyed entirely. And it was Palestinians who opened my thinking to multiple visions of sharing the land. On the left, I hope we do not mistake the inevitability of the violence for an inescapable limit on our work or the quality of our thought. Even if our dreams for better have failed, they must accompany us through this moment to the other side. We need to imagine a movement for liberation better even than the Exodus—an exodus where neither people has to leave. Where people stay to pick up the pieces, rearranging themselves not just as Jews or Palestinians but as antifascists and workers and artists. I want what Puerto Rican Jewish poet and activist Aurora Levins Morales describes in her poem “Red Sea”:

We cannot cross until we carry each other,

all of us refugees, all of us prophets.

No more taking turns on history’s wheel,

trying to collect old debts no-one can pay.

The sea will not open that way.

This time that country

is what we promise each other,

our rage pressed cheek to cheek

until tears flood the space between,

until there are no enemies left,

You remind him of a mouse. 

Always running away before he can fully register that you’re there. Always skirting around his field of vision in the halls as you walk past and purposely quiet your voice to not alert him. It frustrates him. Knowing that you’re there and not at the same time. It pains him because he knows you only do it when it’s him. He isn’t even around you constantly, but he knows there is a difference in the way you act around him. 

He knows you’re usually an energetic and bright person. If he were to pull random people in the hall aside and ask them about you, all their faces would light up in recognition of your name and they would go on and on about their love for you. They would recount all the times you’ve made them laugh and smile, how you’re the sunshine stuffed into a single person, how you can’t take three steps inside the school without someone calling out a greeting towards you. They all talk from experience. Experience Miguel doesn’t have.

He’s tried, he really has. He thought maybe he intimidated you with his height and the usually dark look on his face. So, he tried his best to be soft when you’re around, and tried to convey that he wasn’t a threat. But all of his attempts are in vain. You still stop talking when he comes up to your shared group of friends, always pick the furthest spot away from him, always keep your words and attention towards him to a minimum. He can recount the multiple occasions where one of your mutual friends walked with you down the hall and stopped to talk to Miguel. Each time, his gaze shifted towards you and watched the way you don’t even turn towards him, instead scrolling through your phone as you waited. 

It takes everything in him to not wave a huge sign in your face spelling out PAY ATTENTION TO ME! A large amount of his self control goes towards not pulling whoever you're walking with away from you so he can take their place, forcing you to give him the attention he’s so deprived of. Whenever he asks one of your friends about your behavior, they can only give him a sympathetic look and the shrug of their shoulders. So instead, Miguel steals his time with you through secret observations. His attention instantly snapping towards you when the group is hanging out, his eyes searching for your frame in the halls in between classes. 

He watches the way your eyes light up when you talk to someone, wild hand movements accompanying your stories. He watches the way you always adjust the strap of your book bag that you can never really fix. Loves the look of surprise on your face when someone you don’t know calls out your name and you laugh in confusion as you say hello back and turn to your friends in astonishment. Watches the way you randomly pull your phone out in the halls when you trail behind your group of friends, a small frown on your face as you turn your head and poke at the raised bumps on your skin. Each little sight feels like a breath of fresh air to Miguel, welcoming anything you unknowingly give him. 

It’s a god given gift the day he finds you sitting alone on the bleachers afterschool, none of the people you usually hide behind when you want to get away from him in sight. He keeps his movements slow and quiet to not alert your attention towards his approaching figure. When he sits besides you, you jump in surprise, a look of awe on your face at the sight of him that quickly morphs into the familiar shyness. He watches the way your hand tightens on your phone before you quietly speak up. “Hi, Miguel.”

The sound of your voice, directed entirely towards him makes his heart sing. He feels the unease wash from his shoulders, but he can see it transferring towards you. Even though it pains him to, he leaves a considerable amount of space between the two of you. A whole other person can fit in the empty space. Miguel clenches his fist as he eyes the space in envy, trying his best to ignore it for the sake of your comfort. 

He must be god’s favorite today because as you watch him, you let out a shy smile and whisper out: “You can sit closer, y’know?”

He doesn’t hesitate to fill the space, his knee bumping with yours in his eagerness to be closer. A small laugh leaves you and every rainy day for the next month is cleared away in your happiness. Miguel is utterly hypnotized by you, his eyes shamelessly staring at your face as he drinks in what he’s been missing out on. Is this what it's like? Is this what it's like to be in the presence of a star?

Your smile turns awkward the more he stares at your face, mistaking it for him studying the patch of acne you’ve had difficulties getting rid off. You shift in discomfort, trying to subtly cover the area from view as you clear your throat. Miguel is awakened from his state of awe at the sight of your discomfort, the way you try to hide your imperfections clear as day to him from all the times he’s watched you do it around your friends. Miguel sits up straighter and turns his body to fully face you. He gently moves your hand away from your face, unobstructing his view of you. “You looked really pretty today. Liked the way you did your hair, it looks nice.”

Your eyes are wide as you look at Miguel, his words not fully being processed by your muddy mind. He’s so close and he’s touching you. You think maybe you’re having mirage from being out in the hot sun for too long. You hesitantly look behind you, thinking he’s talking to someone else. The action makes Miguel smile slightly, his thumb rubbing against the pulse point on your wrist to call your attention back towards him. You continue to blink up at him, a blush forming on your face as your point to yourself in clarification. 

Miguel’s smile widens as he tilts his head slightly, a strand of hair covering his eyes while his shoulder shake from silent chuckles. “Yes, you.”

Your smile grows wider in bashfulness, muttering a small thank you as your hand goes to your hair. In your nervousness, you start talking about your process in getting up this morning. Oversharing about how you had tried it out the night before only for it to give you difficulties this morning that made you frustrated and think you would be late to school. Miguel listens wholeheartedly, a small smile still on his face as he lets you say everything that comes to your mind. You end the rant with another thanks towards him for being the only one noticing your efforts with your appearance. 

He finds the appreciation unnecessary, but he’s proud to have gained it from you. He’s sure he looks like a proud puppy with a wagging tail at your praise and his ability to coax a conversation that lasts more than three words. He racks his brain for more things he could say, anything he can do to make you speak more and keep up this easy going air that's so rarely over the both of you. The tiniest bit of pride shines in his eyes whenever he’s successful. 

He lets you go on and on, dismissing your apologies whenever you feel like you’ve talked too much. He’s always been more of a listener than a talker anyways. Plus, he likes discovering the world you dive into when you get lost in your mind. He especially doesn’t mind it when that world subconsciously causes you to raise your hand and push away the strand of hair covering his forehead. His heart beats dangerously fast as he holds his breath, scared he’ll break whatever spell he’s in. It’s only after you start pulling your hand away that you freeze with the realization of what you did. 

A nervous look crosses your face as you start to apologize profusely, your hand still hovering over the side of his face. Miguel shakes his head with a happy smile, once again scolding you for your obsession with the word sorry. When you don’t stop your onslaught for forgiveness, he clasps your hand and presses a kiss to the heel of your palm, successfully shutting you up. You’re a stuttering mess, mouth opening and closing like a fish as you try to form words in your useless mind. Miguel chuckles against the warm skin of your palm and keeps it in his hold as he moves your joined hands to the warmed metal between the both of you. "Go on, princesa. What happened next?"

More shy than before, you continue on, both of your thumbs taking turns rubbing the back of each other's hand. During the never-ending conversation, the two of you get closer and closer. Your body now pressed into Miguel’s side as you laugh and smile at each other. Miguel adds little bits of speech into the conversation, commenting on things he hears or remembers happening or to agree with you on something. He's never seen you so open and carefree with him, and he selfishly wishes for more moments like this. 

Too soon, the moment is broken when your phone starts ringing. You answer, a sorry expression on your face before you turn slightly to answer, pulling your hand from Miguel’s. He clenched his empty palm as you talk, staring down at the lightness that it contains. When you hang up the phone and turn back towards him, the closed-off and reserved behavior returns. 

"I have to go now, but it was nice talking to you, Migs." You whisper as you begin to stand up and gather your things. The nickname you call him warms him through the cold reality of what the two of you will resort back to. 

He hums sadly, the hand previously in his pocket taking your hand again. He debates giving it another kiss, but he decides against it. Instead he gives your hand a gentle squeeze and a small smile. Your cheeks flush again and you give him a fleeting smile in return before making your way down the bleachers. Once you make it down, he stands up and watches as you walk towards a newly pulled up car. You turn and give him a small wave, turning away too quickly to catch his small wave back. 

A heavy sigh leaves him as you drive off. A small weight stays on his chest and he curses slightly, hoping the two of you won't go back to square one. 

Meanwhile, you sit in the passenger seat of the car, a fond smile on your face as you trace the string of numbers scrawled out on the slip of paper he pressed into your hand.

Aromantic and Asexual Characters in Undertale AUs Rant

Aro/Ace rep in the Undertale Multiverse fandom is hardly respected and it's only as of today I am seeing people dissect this attitude, cause it really is a problem and it has bothered me for several years. Even if I wasn't aro/ace myself, it would still bother me to no end, and I keep hearing the same excuses for people sexualizing asexual characters and forcing aromantic characters into romantic relationships. Now here's the thing. I got no issue with other aro/aces in relationships, even romantic or sexual ones, because we all exist on a fucking spectrum of attraction and identity for goodness sake. There is bound to be a variation of representation considering all sexuality in the first place because there is no such thing as two of the same exact people down to the very last detail. That being said, no, there is no inherent issue with having ships involving aro/ace characters and your headcanons of these characters are valid. The problem here is putting EVERY aro/ace character into the same bin of "WELL,,, UHM,,,, ARO/ACES CAN STILL HAVE SEX/ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS SO LIKE, PISS OFF!!!!!" or "WELL QUEERPLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS EXIST, SUCK ON THAT!!!!!" While that may be true TO AN EXTENT, walk with me to this pier. These statements DO NOT apply to EVERY aro/ace person or character. It still pushes the idea that we all NEED to have romantic and/or sexual relationships (or a close adjacent) in order to have proper recognition and respect from our alloromantic/sexual peers, and that hurts like a BITCH to see.

It's just mean, simply put. Stop it. I see the same kind of shit with characters and people who aren't aro or ace but still have no interest in having relationships. They still get sexualized and brute-forced into relationships either by their own creators or fans (offline peers/family for real life people), and it pisses me off so fucking much. Let us exist and have respect without having to service your amatonormativity at our expense. I know this is ambitious, equating activities in fiction to activities that affect real people, but do you really see a difference between them both being invalidated in this specific context? Aro and ace characters and people still get their identities micromanaged and dismissed by their alloromantic/allosexual peers and it happens in ways that I just specified as well as ways that I have not. Intro to Tantric Shaivism: II - Kashmiri Shaivism

In my previous write-ups I explained what Tantra is and gave a brief introduction to Tantric Shaivism. In this write-up I’ll continue my exploration of Tantric Shaivism by introducing one of the most sophisticated traditions of Tantric Shaivism: Kashmiri Shaivism. I won’t talk about the sages who inspired these schools as I think that will make the essay way too long but instead focus on the main philosophy of each school within Kashmiri Shaivism. The three main active schools of thought within Tantric Shaivism today are Kashmiri Shaivism, Saiva siddhanta and Aghori. 

Kashmiri Shaivism is also known as the Trika system. It is a monistic tradition but cannot be defined as one school of thought but rather a collective of different schools that originated in Kashmir, namely: Pratyabhijna, Kula, Spanda, and Krama schools. 

It is known as the Trika system because they believe that the world contains three energies: 

Para (transcendental) - para 

Parapara (subtle) - sukshma 

Apara (gross) - sthula 

The right hand side of the names: sthula, sukshma and para are the names of these energies in the saiva siddhanta tradition. 

Pratyabhijna 

The word pratyabhijna means “to spontaneously once again recognize and realize your Self.” Here you have only to realize, you do not have to practice. There are no upayas (means) in the Pratyabhijna system. You must simply recognize who you are. This teaching, therefore, is situated chiefly in anupaya, which is that means where there are no means at all. It is the recognition that there was nothing to be done and nowhere to go. Here, there is no practice, no concentration and no meditation.

The purpose of Pratyabhijñā is the recognition of the Śiva nature of the world (and oneself). In order to achieve that, it is necessary to induce a modified state of consciousness through the use of Śakti. Śakti, loosely translated as energy, is the dynamic aspect of Śiva, the link between finite (the human subject) and infinite (Śiva). Thus comes about the fundamental principle: "Without the help of Śakti, pratyabhijñā is impossible”. 

2. Kula 

Abhinavagupta, one of the main Sages of this tradition, tells us that the term Kula is derivable from the root kul, which can mean a grouping together. From this meaning we can derive one of the meanings of Kula, a human grouping, namely a family, or more specifically a spiritual family that extends as far back as Siva himself. This lineage is unified by the sequential transmission of the achieved vision of the ultimate. 

The Kula system teaches you how you can live in caitanya  (universal Consciousness), the real nature of yourself, in the act of ascending and descending. While you rise from the lowest to the highest you realize your nature, and while you descend from the highest to the lowest you also realize your nature.

The difference between the Pratyabhijna system and the Kula system is, that the Pratyabhijna system teaches you how to realize your own nature in one place and exist there, reside there. While the Kula system teaches you how you can rise from the lowest degree to the highest degree, and all the while, experience the nature of your Self on the same level and state. Shiva, which is realized in prithvi tattva (earth element), is the same level, the same reality of Shiva which is realized in Shiva tattva. Here, there is complete realization in every act of the world.

3. Spanda 

The word spanda means “movement.” The Spanda school recognizes that nothing can exist without movement. Where there is movement there is life, and where there is no movement that is lifelessness. Spanda is the vibration or the pulse of consciousness. Every activity in the universe, as well as every perception, notion, sensation or emotion in the microcosm, ebbs and flows as part of the universal rhythm of the one reality, which is Siva ,the one God who is the pure conscious agent and perceiver. 

According to the Doctrine of Vibration, man can realise his true nature to be Siva by experiencing Spanda, the dynamic, recurrent and creative activity of the absolute. It is Spanda, the inscrutable pulse of consciousness, that moves and yet moves not, that changes and yet remains eternally itself, that ensures~that both manifestation and the absolute, its unmanifest source, form part of a single process which passes freely from one to the other in such a way that both poles are the same level and equally real.

The difference between the Pratyabhijna school and Spanda are that the spanda school emphasises on the recognition and experience of the vibration of consciousness while the former emphasises direct experience of Siva as oneself.

4. Krama

Krama system shows the development of Saktha tendencies in Saiva philosophy. Based on the Kālīkula (Kālī worship) branch of Tantric Śaivism, Krama means (‘sequence’) which internalized ritual worship of goddesses as the cyclical phases (krama) of one’s own awareness. The Krama system moves in space and time, but finally leads to Paramaśiva, who is beyond space and time. 

Ritual came to be understood as an inner process of realisation through which the initiate discovered his/her essential identity with Kali, who is the flow (krama) of the power of consciousness through the polarities of subject, object and means of knowledge in consonance with their arising and falling away in each act of perception.

The experience of this process coupled with the arousing of man's spiritual potential (kundalini) and the expansion of consciousness that brings it about is the most esoteric practice of the Krama system of Kashmiri Saivism. 

Kashmir Shaivism shares many parallel points of agreement with the lesser known monistic school of Shaiva Siddhanta as expressed in the Tirumantiram of Tirumular. This is a very brief introduction to the different schools of thought within Kashmiri Shaivism. It is important to recognise that these philosophies draw on each other as inspiration for their practices and contain less hard drawn lines. In the next piece I’ll talk about Saiva siddhanta.
