Selling everything from Metro branded yoga pants, socks, backpacks, toys, mugs and other fashion accessories for riders. Hi y'all, happy Hump Day! I'm Amanda, originally from Birmingham, Alabama (War Eagle) and have lived in DC for about two and a half years. I'm a licensed social worker who works with homeless women and formerly homeless families. Lucky for you, I have home visits all over the District today! We start our grand tour with my neighborhood, Adams Morgan. I've lived in AdMo since moving to DC. I ride the bus to work (S/O to the @wmatadc 90 bus drivers for always noticing a new haircut or dress) and love that during the school year, I have the same Ethiopian couple taking their child to school and the same Bolivian woman telling me "Good Morning" or "Buenos Dias." I get to leave the Rehab Unit tomorrow, but it was only today and yesterday that people actually - and begrudgingly - discussed my prognosis or my partial paralysis. At 3:09 pm the T18 stop at Rhode Island metro station, the #7038 bus driver was arrogantly screaming at me and @apellerin when a rider using a wheelchair asked us to get on first. I gestured that I'm Deaf and @apellerin is DeafBlind. No avail, the bus driver continued to berate us for trying to get on the bus. A female rider who knows a little sign came to our defense and told the driver his yelling at us was useless because we're Deaf. Driver continued to yell and mouth off at us. We decided to not get on the bus because we felt unsafe riding with someone so abusive towards Deaf and Blind riders. WMATA needs to get their Metrobus employees in disability sensitivity training. That driver's behavior is UNACCEPTABLE. @wmata @wmatadc @MetroTransitPD (at Rhode Island Avenue–Brentwood station)
