#4 - Sandwing chapter

Astute viewers may be tempted to point out that this rendering of Qibli is wearing his earring in the wrong ear. This is an intentional nod to the graphic novel depiction, which does something interesting with that entire thing. He starts wearing the earring in his right ear, but then it gets torn out during the fight with Icicle. In the next issue, that ear is scarred and he starts wearing it in his left ear instead. It's possible this also happens in the books, it's admittedly been a while since I read them front-to-back, so my memory on that is fuzzy. But I always thought that was a cool detail. And since Icicle is still present here, these pictures must have been... uh... "taken" before she absconded. Hence the earring in the right ear.

Also, with 20 out of 36 students done, this now puts us across the halfway mark.

Ok officially finished the second arc of wof for the first time. Qibli’s pov was one of my favorites actually. I think my favorite running gags from that book were Qibli desperately trying to get everyone to wear his earrings and Kinkajou and Anemone’s ongoing beef. Can’t believe they turned Darkstalker into a toddler. That was not the ending I was expecting, I kind of thought the vision was of a reincarnation at first and they were going to convince him to kill himself, but yeah, that makes more sense.

I actually like Turtle and Kinkajou’s relationship way more than I thought I would.

And Damn Winter’s ending was kind of rough, but also probably the best he was ever going to get. As much of a Winter x Moon shipper I was as a kid, I’m glad they didn’t end up together. I have a feeling they would have ended up a lot like Arctic and Foeslayer, which is probably exactly why Moon didn’t pick him.

And also it is so funny that Thorn and Smolder and Onyx might actually have a happily ever after as a new family. Like Onyx tried to murder Thorn a few months ago and now that’s her stepmom. And Blaze is still there, which is also very funny to me. I wonder how Blaze and Smolder’s awkward reunions with both eachother and Six-claws went. I just know Six-Claws is not really happy about his boss’s taste in men.

probably an unpopular headcanon, but i don't think oynx would ever really warm up to smolder. it's not that she wants him dead, but between flirting with someone her age and (probably) dropping a rock on her foot, she just doesn't like him.

Oh yeah, it's also from a comet that comes around the planet every so often. Yeah, a bit of it broke off and fell to the earth, where in it hit a dragon right in the head and instantly killed them. Smolder broke Onyx's leg.

He broke his own daughter's goddamn leg while they were taking shelter from a sandstorm and it is never brought up again.

I mean, it was for an understandable reason, but still.

Decided to mix Children of the Den and Twisted Fates together.

Moon grows up in the Scorpion Den, and is between Qibli and Ostrich in age (their ages are different in TF). They grow up together, but Moon was always closer to Qibli. Qibli, Thorn, Six-Claws, Ostrich and Moon’s mother are the only ones who know about her powers before she goes to JMA and is forced to reveal them to the rest of her winglet.

Onyx is also much younger. Smolder and Palm were in a secret relationship while the war was still going, and Palm ran away from the Stronghold as soon as she realized she was pregnant. She raises Onyx alone until about a few days before the Brightest Night, when she’s hit by a piece of skyfire that broke off of the comet. Onyx then moves to the Scorpion Den, living as an orphan and making the skyfire into a crown and amulet. She also has pieces of onyx gems embedded into her scales.

All in all, even if Onyx wasn’t part of Qibli, Moon and Ostrich’s clique, they all still knew each other before they began attending Jade Mountain.
